Abstract

ABSTRACTObjectiveThis study aimed to gain an in depth understanding of factors influencing mental health referrals for adults with hearing loss in the audiology setting.MethodA semi-structured focus group with hearing care practitioners (HCPs) and reception staff (N = 12, Mage = 45± 12 years, 10 female) from a large hearing services provider in Western Australia in 2020.ResultsThree themes were identified: (1) beliefs about and the recognition of the need for referral, (2) knowledge, skills, and training for mental health referral, and (3) outcomes and consequences of referring clients for mental health support.DiscussionThis study identified a wide range of factors influencing referral of adults with hearing loss for mental health support. The findings of this research may be used to inform intervention development targeting mental health referral behaviours within the audiology setting.

Abstract

This manuscript examines the unintended consequences that organizational computer monitoring can foster within the firm. We apply justice and reactance theories to explain why monitoring can actually increase the occurrence of detrimental organizational behaviors. Our model suggests monitoring activities that invade employees' privacy lead to perceived injustices, which provoke destructive behavior by employees. Empirical results obtained from 439 survey respondents employed in the banking, finance, and insurance industries provide support for most of our hypotheses. Computer monitoring was found to increase internal computer abuse but not antisocial behaviors. Privacy invasions resulting from the monitoring activities were related to perceptions of procedural injustice, which in turn influenced distributive injustice perceptions. Both injustices acted as direct precursors to internal computer abuse, but only distributive injustice was a significant antecedent to antisocial behavior. We discuss these findings and their limitations in the context of modern organizations that are inundated with information-security responsibilities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
