Cluster Grignard reagents C 6 H 5 Mg 4 F have been obtained by direct magnesium cluster insertion into C-F bond in fluorobenzene with magnesium vapors co-condensates at low temperature. The appearance of metal cluster in organomagnesium molecule leads to unusual non-transition metal cluster compounds catalytic properties studied on halogen exchange reaction RF + R ′ Cl → RCl + R ′ F as example. Cluster Grignard reagents catalyze the fluorobenzene reaction with alkyl chlorides due to reversible magnesium cluster insertion into C-F and C-Cl bonds.

Analysis of J(199HgCH3) spin coupling constants in PMR spectra of CH3HgX (where X is a carbanion) shows that the affinity of various X groups for the methylmercury cation is linearly dependent on the acidity of the respective CH-acids XH.

The first asymmetric hydrogenation of vinylphosphonic acids and esters to the corresponding arylethylphosphonic acids and esters using chiral Ru(II) catalysts is reported with enantiomeric excesses up to 86%.

Kinetic study of the interaction of di-p-anisylthallium chloride with mercury metal, in pyridine, ethylenediamine, or dimethyl sulfoxide solutions, show that in the former two solvents with the following experimental conditions: solution volume 10 ml, mercury surface area 10 cm2, 60°C, and without stirring of mercury, the Hg/Tl exchange occurs via the homogeneous reaction (80–90 percent) with dissolved mercury. In DMSO, under the same experimental conditions, the contribution of the homogeneous reaction is nearly the same as that of the heterogeneous one. This was determined by the study of the experimental exchange rate dependence on organic phase volume, and mercury or di-p-anisylthallium chloride solubilities in the solvents, as well as from analysis of kinetic curves for the exchange in saturated and unsaturated solutions of mercury metal in the solvents studied.

The palladium-catalysed coupling reactions of aryl halides with acrylic acid and acrylonitrile in the presence of a base (NaHCO3or K2CO3) in water provide a novel and efficient and very small method for the synthesis of substituted cinnamic acids and cinnamonitriles in high yields. NaHCO3or K2CO3effectively acts as a base in the reaction at elevated temperature 80–100°C). The reaction can be carried out with higher velocity and at low temperature (50–60°C), using CH3COOK as a base.
