Milanriederite, a new vesuvianite-group mineral, was discovered in the Kombat deposit, Grootfontein district, Otjozondjupa region, Namibia, in association with baryte, calcite, jacobsite, hausmannite, glaucochroite and native copper. The new mineral forms dark brownish-red dipyramidal crystals up to 3 mm across. The major crystal form is {111} and the minor forms are {001}, {110}, and {100}. Milanriederite is brittle, has a Mohs’ hardness of six and an uneven fracture. Neither cleavage nor parting is observed. D meas = 3.53(2) g/cm3, D calc = 3.547 g/cm3. The new mineral is optically uniaxial (–), ? = 1.744(3), e = 1.737(3). The infrared (IR) spectrum of milanriederite significantly differs from IR spectra of other vesuvianite-group minerals. According to Mössbauer data, all iron in the mineral is trivalent. The chemical composition is (electron microprobe, H2O determined by gas chromatography of ignition products, wt%): Na2O 0.47, MgO 5.49, CaO 29.86, Mn2O3 1.40, Al2O3 9.75, Fe2O3 6.03, Y2O3 2.44, La2O3 4.43, Ce2O3 0.86, Pr2O3 0.32, Nd2O3 1.31, SiO2 34.84, H2O 2.9, total 100.10. The empirical formula based on 78 O atoms is [Ca16.48(La0.84Y0.67Ce0.16Nd0.24Pr0.06)Na0.47]S18.92(Al5.92Mg4.22 Fe 2.34 3 + Mn 0.55 3 + )S13.03Si17.95O68.04(OH)9.96. The simplified formula is (Ca,REE)19Fe3+Al4(Mg,Al,Fe3+)8Si18O68(OH,O)10. The crystal structure was refined to R = 0.027 for 1684 unique observed reflections with |F o| = 4sF. The mineral is tetragonal, P4/nnc, a = 15.6578(4), c = 11.8597(5) Å, V = 2907.6(2) Å3, Z = 2. Milanriederite is the analogue of vesuvianite with Mg predominant at the Y3 site. The strongest lines of the powder X-ray diffraction pattern are [d, Å (I, %) (hkl)]: 2.970 (50) (511, 004), 2.774 (100) (204, 432, 440), 2.617 (87) (423, 531, 224, 522), 2.481 (30) (620), 2.143 (19) (315, 641), 1.676 (17) (921, 842, 436), 1.638 (38) (931, 526, 804, 922). The mineral is named in honour of Czech mineralogist Professor Milan Rieder (b. 1940), in recognition to his contributions to mineralogy and his service to the international mineralogical community.

Kuliginite is a new iron-magnesium hydroxychloride mineral with the ideal formula Fe3Mg(OH)6Cl2from the Udachnaya East kimberlite, Yakutia, Russia. It occurs as green prismatic-bipyramidal crystals (0.2–0.5 mm) and fills cavities and veins in several units of kimberlites together with iowaite, gypsum, calcite, halite, barite, and celestine. It is trigonal, with R3̅ space group. Kuliginite has imperfect cleavage on {101̅1}. The spinel-like crystal structure of kuliginite is also typical for several copper minerals of the atacamite group with common formula Cu3M(OH)6Cl2; kuliginite can be regarded as a Fe2+analog of tondiite [Cu3Mg(OH)6Cl2.

Magnesiovoltaite, a new voltaite-group mineral, was discovered in the Alcaparrosa mine, Cerro Alcaparrosa, El Loa province, Antofagasta region, Chile, in two associations, one of which includes coquimbite, tamarugite, alum-(Na), rhomboclase, yavapaiite, voltaite and opal, and the other one is botryogen, opal, tamarugite, alum-(K), pickeringite, magnesiocopiapite, and jarosite. Magnesiovoltaite forms yellow, brownish-yellow or pale yellowish-greenish isometric crystals up to 2 mm across. The main crystal forms are {111} and {100}; the subordinate forms are {110} and {211}. The new mineral is brittle, with subconchoidal fracture; cleavage is not observed. Mohs' hardness is 2½. D meas = 2.51(2) g/cm3, D calc = 2.506 g/cm3. Magnesiovoltaite is optically anomalously anisotropic, uniaxial with e = 1.584(2) and ? = 1.588(2), or biaxial (-) with a = 1.584(2), ß = 1.587(2), and ? = 1.588(2). Possible causes of the optical anomalies are discussed. The infrared spectrum is given. The chemical composition is (EDS-mode electron microprobe, all iron is considered as Fe3+ in accordance with Mössbauer data, H2O by gas chromatography of ignition products, wt.&percnt): Na2O 0.13, K2O 4.64, MgO 9.13, MnO 1.73, ZnO 0.84, Al2O3 2.47, Fe2O3 13.36, SO3 50.83, H2O 17.6, total 100.73. The empirical formula based on 66 O atoms per formula unit (apfu) is (K1.85Na0.08)(Mg4.25Mn0.46Zn0.14)Fe3+ 3.14Al0.91(SO4)11.91(H2O)18.325O0.035. The simplified formula is K2Mg5Fe3+ 3Al(SO4)12·18H2O. The crystal structure has been refined to R = 3.2% using 1147 unique reflections with I > 2s(I). Magnesiovoltaite is cubic, Fd–3c, a = 27.161(1) Å, V = 20038(2) Å3, and Z = 16. Magnesiovoltaite is isostructural with other cubic voltaite-group minerals. The strongest lines of the powder X-ray diffraction pattern [d, Å (I, %)(hkl)] are: 9.56(29)(022), 6.77(37)(004), 5.53(61)(224), 3.532(68)(137), 3.392(100)(008), 3.034(45)(048), 2.845(30)(139). The type material is deposited in the collections of the Fersman Mineralogical Museum of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia.

Ferro-pedrizite, a new amphibole-supergroup mineral was discovered in the Sutlug pegmatite occurrence situated in the Targi River Basin, Tyva Republic, Eastern Sibera, Russia. The associated minerals are quartz, albite, microcline, spodumene, cassiterite, beryl, columbite-(Mn), fergusonite-ß-(Y), fluorapatite, schorl, trilithionite and fluorite. Ferro-pedrizite forms dark grey-blue to violet-blue acicular and long prismatic crystals up to 2 × 5 × 50 mm and their aggregates. D meas = 3.16(1) g/cm3 (by hydrostatic weighing), 3.13(1) g/cm3 (by flotation in heavy liquids); D calc = 3.135 g/cm3. Ferro-pedrizite is optically biaxial (–), a = 1.614(3), ß = 1.638(3), ? = 1.653(3), 2V meas = 75(5)°, 2V calc = 76°. The infrared spectrum is given. The chemical composition is (EDS-mode electron microprobe, the ratio Fe2+ :Fe3+ by Mössbauer data, Li by ICP-MS, H2O by gas chromatography of ignition products, F by wet analysis, wt. %): Li2O 4.67, Na2O 2.54, K2O 0.13, MgO 4.48, CaO 0.29, MnO 0.59, FeO 9.06, Al2O313.13, Fe2O34.60, SiO257.59, F 1.15, H2O 1.50, -O = F –0.48, total 99.25. The empirical formula based on 24 anions is: (Na0.60K0.02)S0.62(Li1.89Na0.07Ca0.04)S2.00(Fe2+ 1.03Mg0.90Mn2+ 0.07Al1.88Fe3+ 0.47Li0.65)S 5.00[(Si7.79Al0.21)S8.00O22][(OH)1.36F0.49O0.15)]. The simplified formula is NaLi2(Fe2+ 2Al2Li)Si8O22(OH)2. Ferro-pedrizite is monoclinic, C2/m, a = 9.3716(4), b = 17.649(1), c = 5.2800(6) Å, ß = 102.22(1)°, V = 853.5(1) Å3, Z = 2. The structure has been refined to R obs = 3.9 % (4843 I < 2sI). A twinning model was introduced into the refinement through the matrix [–1 0 0/0–1 0/–0.7516 0 1] with the ratio of two twin components of 0.681(3)/0.319(3). The strongest lines of the powder X-ray diffraction pattern [d, Å (I, %) (hkl)] are: 8.147 (52) (110), 4.420 (22), (040), 3.009 (100) (310), 2.7102 (28) (330), 2.6865 (29) (151), 2.6236 (21) (461). Type material is deposited in the Mineralogical Museum of the Tomsk State University, Tomsk, Russia.

The new mineral okruschite (IMA No. 2013–097), the arsenate analogue of roscherite, was discovered in a hydrothermal vein cross-cutting rhyolite exposed in the Fuchs quarry, near Sailauf, Spessart Mountains, Bavaria, Germany. Associated minerals are braunite, Mn-bearing calcite and arseniosiderite. Okruschite forms tabular aggregates up to 0.15 × 0.3 × 0.3 mm in size of curved and somewhat misaligned laths. It is white, semitransparent; lustre is vitreous. Dmeas = 3.33(2), Dcalc = 3.340 g/cm3. Okruschite is optically biaxial (–), a = 1.671(3), ß = 1.682(2), ? = 1.687(3), 2V meas = 65(5)°. The infrared spectrum is given. The chemical composition is (electron microprobe, B and Li by ICP MS, H2O by gas chromatography of ignition products, wt. %): Li2O 0.04, BeO 7.70, MgO 1.68, CaO 8.28, MnO 16.27, FeO 4.89, Al2O3 0.22, As2O5 51.11, H2O 11.0, total 101.19. The empirical formula based on 34 O atoms is: Ca1.99(Mn3.09Fe0.92Mg0.56Al0.06Li0.04)S4.67Be4.15(AsO4)5.99(OH)3.64 · 6.40H2O. The simplified formula is Ca2Mn2+ 5Be4(AsO4)6(OH)4 · 6H2O. Okruschite is monoclinic, C2/c, a = 16.33(4), b = 12.03(3), c = 6.93(1) Å, ß = 94.84(5)°, V = 1357(4) Å3, Z = 2. The strongest lines of the powder X-ray diffraction pattern [d, Å (I, %) (hkl)] are: 9.68 (39) (110), 4.95 (34) (310), 4.17 (34) (–311), 3.25 (100) (–202, 330), 3.11 (32) (–421), 2.841 (27) (240), 2.711 (26) (600), 1.726 (26) (461, –552, 004). Okruschite is named after Professor Martin Okrusch, from Germany. Type material is deposited in the collections of the Fersman Mineralogical Museum of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow.

A new mineral beshtauite, (NH4)2(UO2)(SO4)2·2H2O, was found in the oxidation zone of the Beshtau uranium deposit, Mount Beshtau, Stavropol region, Northern Caucasus, Russia, and named after the locality. It is associated with rozenite, gypsum, lermontovite, and older marcasite, pyrite, halloysite, and opal. Beshtauite occurs as well-shaped short-prismatic crystals up to 0.1 × 0.15 × 0.2 mm, their clusters and crusts up to 0.5 mm across growing on marcasite. Beshtauite is transparent, light green. The luster is vitreous. The mineral fluoresces strongly yellow-green under both short- and long-wave UV irradiation. It is brittle. The Mohs hardness is ca. 2. Cleavage was not observed. Dcalcis 3.046 g/cm3. Beshtauite is optically biaxial (+), α = 1.566(3), β = 1.566(3), γ = 1.592(3), 2Vmeas< 10°. The chemical composition (wt%, electron microprobe data, H2O by difference) is: (NH4)2O 10.33, UO353.21, SO329.40, H2Ocalc7.06, total 100.00. Content of (NH4)2O was calculated from measured nitrogen content: 5.56 wt% N. The empirical formula, calculated on the basis of 12 O apfu, is (NH4)2.12U0.99S1.96O9.91(H2O)2.09. Beshtauite is monoclinic, P21/c, a = 7.7360(8), b = 7.3712(5), c = 20.856(2) Å, β = 102.123(8)°, V = 1162.76(19) Å3, Z = 4 (from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data). The strongest reflections of the X-ray powder pattern [d (Å), I(hkl)] are: 6.86, 100(011, 102̅); 5.997, 19(012); 5.558, 15(102); 5.307, 36(111̅,110); 5.005, 35(013,112̅); 3.410, 38(114,204̅,106̅); 3.081, 24(016); 2.881, 20(106,123). The crystal structure was solved by direct methods and refined on the basis of 2677 independent reflections with I > 4σ(I) to R1= 0.093. The structure is based upon [UO2(SO4)2(H2O)]2-layers consisting of corner-sharing UO6(H2O) pentagonal bipyramids and SO4tetrahedra. The layers are coplanar to (1̅02) and are linked via hydrogen bonding that involve interlayer NH4+ions and H2O molecules. Beshtauite is important indicator mineral: its presence can be considered as an evidence of transportation of U6+in nature in forms of mobile complexes of uranyl cation with ammonia or polyamines.

Correianevesite, ideally Fe2+Mn22+(PO4)2·3H2O, is a new reddingite-group mineral approved by the CNMNC (IMA 2013-007). It occurs in a phosphate-rich granite pegmatite that outcrops near the Cigana mine, Conselheiro Pena, Rio Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Associated minerals are: triphylite, lithiophilite, frondelite, rockbridgeite, eosphorite, vivianite, fairfieldite, leucophosphite, cyrilovite, phosphosiderite, etc. Correianevesite occurs as grayish-brown to reddish-brown transparent bipyramidal crystals up to 4 mm in size. The streak is white, and the luster is vitreous. Mohs hardness is 3½. Cleavage is poor on (010). Fracture is laminated, uneven across cleavage. The measured density is 3.25(2) g/cm3; the calculated density is 3.275 g/cm3. The mineral is biaxial (+), α = 1.661(5), β = 1.673(5), γ = 1.703(5), 2Vmeas= 70(10)°, 2Vcalc= 65.6°. The IR spectrum confirms the presence of H2O. The Mössbauer spectrum shows the presence of two sites for Fe2+and one site for Fe3+occupied in the ratio Fe12+:Fe22+:Fe3+= 39:55:6. The chemical composition is as follows (electron microprobe, H2O determined by gas chromatography of ignition products, Fe apportioned between FeO and Fe2O3based on Mössbauer data, wt%): MnO 29.21, FeO 21.74, Fe2O31.54, P2O534.59, H2O 12.6, total 99.68. The empirical formula, based on 11 O apfu, is H5.78Mn1.70Fe2+1.25Fe3+0.08P2.015O11. The strongest lines of the powder X-ray diffraction pattern [d, Å (I, %) (hkl)] are: 5.08 (43) (020), 4.314 (28) (002, 210), 3.220 (100) (221, 202), 3.125 (25) (122), 2.756 (35) (103, 230), 2.686 (25) (222, 113), 2.436 (22) (123), and 2.233 (23) (411, 331). The crystal structure is solved (R1= 0.0176). Correianevesite is orthorhombic, space group Pbna, a = 9.4887(2), b = 10.1149(2), c = 8.7062(2) Å, V = 835.60(3) Å3, Z = 4. The refined crystal-chemical formula is: (Fe2+0.72Mn2+0.20Fe3+0.08)(Mn1.48Fe2+0.52)(PO4)2(H2O,OH)3.

Césarferreiraite, Fe2+Fe23+(AsO4)2(OH)2·8H2O, is a new laueite-group mineral (IMA 2012-099) of triclinic symmetry, from Eduardo pegmatite mine, Conselheiro Pena municipality, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Intimately associated minerals are pharmacosiderite, scorodite, and earlier arsenopyrite, and probably césarferreiraite replaces the latter. It occurs as fibrous-to-tabular aggregates up to 2 mm. Single crystals, up to 10 μm long with a thickness of about 1-2 μm, are elongated along [001] and flattened on (100). The fibers have almost rectangular cross-section apparently bound by the {100} and {010} pinacoid forms. Color and streak are pale to greenish yellow. Luster is vitreous; individual crystals are transparent and masses are translucent. Cleavage is distinct, presumably on {010} and {100}. Calculated density is 2.934 g/cm3. The mineral is biaxial (+), n (min) = 1.747(3), n (max) = 1.754(3) (589 nm). IR spectrum of césarferreiraite is unique and can be used for the identification of the mineral. Chemical composition (n = 4, WDS, calculated for the condition Fe2+:Fe3+= 1:2, H2O for the ideal structural formula, wt%) is: FeO 11.50, Fe2O325.56, CaO 15.41, As2O533.51, H2O 26.01, total 100.12. The empirical formula (based on 18 O apfu) is Fe2+0.98Fe3+1.96[(AsO4)1.79(PO4)0.31](OH)1.52·8.08H2O. The strongest eight X-ray powder-diffraction lines [d in Å(I)(hkl)] are: 9.85(95)(010), 6.35(100)(001), 3.671(29)(1̅21), 3.158(32)(13̅0), 2.960(39)(022̅), 2.884(35)(1̅31), 2.680(29)(2̅11), and 2.540(23)(2̅10). Unit-cell parameters refined from powder data indexed by analogy with related laueite-group minerals (space group: P1̅) are: a = 5.383(2), b = 10.363(3), c = 6.878(2) Å, α = 96.42(4), β = 109.19(3), γ = 102.30(2)°, V = 347.1(2) Å3, and Z = 1. Gladstone-Dale compatibility is -0.020 (excellent). Césarferreiraite is the arsenate analog of ferrolaueite.
