The article discusses the effect of pollution control on air quality during the 2008 Beijing Olympics in China. The event provides an opportunity for testing the clean-up controls on air quality in the country. It was found that atmospheric concentrations of several pollutants decrease during the game due to strict emission controls but a year after the Olympics, the mean concentrations of the pollutants increase again. It is considered that the results suggest the need of the country to implement long-lasting decreases in its air pollution.
