Subclinical hypothyroidism (SH) is defined by normal free triiodothyronine (fT3) and free thyroxine (fT4) levels, elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone levels, and the absence of overt clinical signs of hypothyroidism. The natural course of SH is influenced by the underlying etiology. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the etiologic causes of SH. A total of 135 patients aged 1–18 years, diagnosed with SH by at least two analytical measurements, were included in the study. The anthropometric measurements, demographic characteristics, and laboratory findings of the patients were determined. A comparison was conducted between patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis and patients with non-autoimmune etiology. The median age was 9.7 (6.5) years, and 82 of the 135 patients were female. The most prevalent etiology was idiopathic, affecting 39 (28.9 %) patients. This was followed by obesity, which was identified in 21 (15.6 %) patients. Hashimoto's thyroiditis was the third most common cause, accounting for 18 (13.3 %) patients. In patients with Hashimoto's disease, fT4 levels were significantly lower, and the rate of initiation of LT4 treatment was higher than in patients with other etiologies. A heterozygous variation in the TSH receptor (TSHR) gene was detected in six patients. In our study, idiopathic cases were the most frequently identified in the etiology of SH. It is important to determine whether there is autoimmune thyroiditis. In cases of idiopathic SH, it is recommended to perform TSHR gene analysis, particularly in the presence of positive family history and newborn screening results. Emergency department (ED) crowding poses a significant challenge in healthcare systems globally, leading to delays in patient care and threatening public health and staff well-being. Access block, characterized by delays in admitting patients awaiting hospitalization, is a primary contributor to ED overcrowding. To address this issue, the National Emergency Department Overcrowding Study (NEDOCS) score provides an objective framework for assessing ED crowding severity. This study aims to evaluate the impact of access block on ED crowding using the NEDOCS score and to explore strategies for mitigating overcrowding through scenarios over a 39-day period. A single-center, prospective, observational study was conducted in an urban tertiary care referral center. The NEDOCS score was collected six times daily, including variables like total ED patients, ventilated patients, boarding patients, the longest waiting times, and durations of boarding patients. NEDOCS scores were recorded, and calculations were performed to assess the potential impact of eliminating access block in scenarios. NEDOCS scores ranged from 62.4 to 315, with a mean of 146, indicating consistent overcrowding. Analysis categorized ED conditions into different levels, revealing that over 81.2% of the time, the ED was at least overcrowded. The longest boarding patient's waiting duration was identified as the primary contributor to NEDOCS (48.8%). Scenarios demonstrated a significant decrease in NEDOCS when access block was eliminated through timely admissions. Shorter boarding times during non-working hours suggest the potential mitigating effect of external factors on the access barrier. Additionally, daytime measurements were associated with lower patient admissions and shorter wait times for initial assessment. Although ED crowding is a multifactorial problem, our study has shown that access block contribute significantly to this problem. The study emphasizes that eliminating access block through timely admissions could substantially alleviate crowding, highlighting the importance of addressing this issue to enhance ED efficiency and overall healthcare delivery. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between nursing students' mental health literacy and resilience levels. This cross-sectional study included 676 nursing students who completed the Information Form, Mental Health Literacy Scale (MHLS), and Brief Resilience Scale (BRS). The total mean scores of the students' MHLS and BRS were 102.53 ± 11.49 and 18.19 ± 4.02 respectively. Correlation analysis revealed a very weak positive correlation between MHLS and BRS total scores. The nursing students' mental health literacy and resilience levels were moderate. Of them, those with high mental health literacy levels also had higher levels of resilience. This study may provide evidence that increasing societies' mental health literacy levels can also improve resilience levels. • Mental health literacy and resilience levels of nursing students were found to be moderate. • A very weak significant relationship was found between mental health literacy and resilience levels of nursing students. • This study suggests that increasing the mental health literacy level of society can strengthen mental health. Hospitalization is a serious experience affecting emotional, physical and developmental needs of the children. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between psychosocial symptoms and parenting styles in hospitalized children. The sample of this cross-sectional descriptive study consisted of parents of hospitalized children between the ages of 6–12 years. The data collection tools included 'Scale for Diagnosis of Psychosocial Symptom for Inpatient children (SDPSIC)' and 'Multidimensional Parenting Assessment Scale (MAPS)'. The highest scores for psychosocial symptoms belonged to anxiety (8.64 ± 2.03) and regressive behaviours (3.89 ± 1.59). The highest scores for parenting styles belonged to warmth (13.30 ± 1.98) and supportiveness (12.69 ± 2.33). Parenting styles were predictore of the hospitalized child's psychosocial symptoms and explained 23% of the variance in psychosocial symptoms. While a positive relation existed between lax control, hostility, physical control parenting styles and psychosocial symptoms like anxiety, regressive behaviours, communication difficulty; a negative relation occured between warmth, positive reinforcement styles and anger-aggression. Focusing to the processes associating parenting styles and parenting practices with child outcomes will make the understanding of psychosocial symptoms of the child in hospitalization process easier. The mitochondrial elongation factor Tu (EF-Tu), encoded by the TUFM gene, is a GTPase, which is part of the mitochondrial protein translation mechanism. If it is activated, it delivers the aminoacyl-tRNAs to the mitochondrial ribosome. Here, a patient was described with a homozygous missense variant in the TUFM [c.1016G>A (p.Arg339Gln)] gene. To date, only six patients have been reported with bi-allelic pathogenic variants in TUFM, leading to combined oxidative phosphorylation deficiency 4 (COXPD4) characterized by severe early-onset lactic acidosis, encephalopathy, and cardiomyopathy. The patient presented here had the phenotypic features of TUFM-related disease, lactic acidosis, hypotonia, liver dysfunction, optic atrophy, and mild encephalopathy We aimed to expand the clinical spectrum of pathogenic variants of TUFM. Regarding the dynamics of the contemporary world economy, success in a domestic economy cannot be achieved without effective integration policies for goods/services and capital flows. To evaluate this proposition, we utilize many openness measures for two periods, 1995-2009 and 2000-2014, for the Turkish sectors. The empirical findings suggest that domestic value added in export is a major driver of sectoral value added. While import and backward linkages appear to be stimulators for total factor productivity (TFP) in manufacturing industries, they have no significant impact on sectoral value added. Trade barriers in the form of tariff rates, which primarily stemmed from manufacturing industries, have a considerable detrimental impact on Turkish sectoral performance. Higher tariffs not only make it more difficult for Turkish businesses to enter overseas markets but also raise the costs for importers. The initial impact of this protection is inexorably exacerbated by global value chains (GVCs), with negative consequences felt in nearly every economy. Given the increased backward GVC involvement of some manufacturing industries, such as machinery and equipment, Turkish sectors should be prepared for external shocks by diversifying importer origins, stocking up, and boosting transparency in their operations. Interventional immuno-oncology is making strides in locoregional therapies to address complex tumor microenvironments. Long-standing interventional radiology cancer therapies, such as tumor ablation and embolization, are being recharacterized in the context of immunotherapy. Intratumoral injections, such as those of genetically engineered or unaltered viruses, and the delivery of immune cells, antibodies, proteins, or cytokines into targeted tumors, along with advancements in delivery techniques, have produced promising results in preliminary studies, indicating their antitumor effectiveness. Emerging strategies using DNA scaffolding, polysaccharides, glycan, chitosan, and natural products are also showing promise in targeted cancer therapy. The future of interventional immuno-oncology lies in personalized immunotherapies that capitalize on individual immune profiles and tumor characteristics, along with the exploration of combination therapies. This study will review various interventional immuno-oncology strategies and emerging technologies to enhance delivery of therapeutics and response to immunotherapy. This retrospective analysis of the feasibility and safety of percutaneous renal stone removal using single-use flexible ureteroscopes was conducted at 3 academic centers. Twelve patients (58% men) underwent 14 percutaneous renal stone removal procedures between December 2021 and March 2023. All patients experienced symptom improvement and resolution of obstruction after stone removal. The procedural success rate was 92%. Only 1 patient required an additional stone removal procedure. No major adverse events occurred during or after the procedures. The percutaneous nephrostomy removal rate was 92%, with a median tube removal time of 5 weeks. The median procedural and pulsed fluoroscopy times were 106.5 and 16.3 minutes, respectively. In this study, we purpose to ensure optical soliton solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation having parabolic and anti-cubic (AC) laws with a weakly non-local nonlinearity by using the new Kudryashov method. As far as we know this model has not been presented and studied before. Furthermore, what differs this study from other studies is, not only obtains a variety of analytical solutions of the examined model but also substantiates the effects of the parabolic and anti-cubic laws with a weakly non-local nonlinearity on soliton behaviour, by choosing the particular soliton forms, which are dark, bright and W-like. Eventually, we depict some of the derived solutions in contour, 2D and 3D diagrams selecting the appropriate values of parameters by means of Matlab to demonstrate the importance of the given model. It is indicated that parabolic and AC parameters taking into consideration the weak non-local contribution have a very remarkable impact on the soliton structure, and the impact alters connected with the parameters and the soliton form. Besides, enabling and retaining the critical balance between the parameters and the soliton form and the interactive relation of the parameters with each other comprises major challenges. Reproducibility of artificial intelligence (AI) research has become a growing concern. One of the fundamental reasons is the lack of transparency in data, code, and model. In this work, we aimed to systematically review the radiology and nuclear medicine papers on AI in terms of transparency and open science. A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed to identify original research studies on AI. The search was restricted to studies published in Q1 and Q2 journals that are also indexed on the Web of Science. A random sampling of the literature was performed. Besides six baseline study characteristics, a total of five availability items were evaluated. Two groups of independent readers including eight readers participated in the study. Inter-rater agreement was analyzed. Disagreements were resolved with consensus. Following eligibility criteria, we included a final set of 194 papers. The raw data was available in about one-fifth of the papers (34/194; 18%). However, the authors made their private data available only in one paper (1/161; 1%). About one-tenth of the papers made their pre-modeling (25/194; 13%), modeling (28/194; 14%), or post-modeling files (15/194; 8%) available. Most of the papers (189/194; 97%) did not attempt to create a ready-to-use system for real-world usage. Data origin, use of deep learning, and external validation had statistically significantly different distributions. The use of private data alone was negatively associated with the availability of at least one item (p <0.001). The aim of this study was to examine the childhood-age foreign body aspiration (FBA) retrospectively by focusing on symptoms, types, home interventions, hospitalization and complications. All patients between 0–18 years admitted to pediatric surgical clinic and diagnosed with FBA were examined retrospectively from January 2021 to January 2022. The study group consisted of 163 patients and their mean age was 17.8±12.7 months (1 months to 6 years). FBA events included aspiration of food (78%), coins (10%), batteries (3.7%), parts of toys (4%), buttons (2.4%) and other (2%). First aid treatment to children was performed at home by mothers (61%). Types of first aid treatment performed by mothers included tapping the back (31%); cleaning inside the mouth (24%); trying to remove the foreign body with fingers (12%), pushing the foreign body forward (5.9%) and forcing the child to vomit (9.5%) respectively. FBA is a potential life-threatening health problem during childhood. When the age of majority of patients being under one year old and prevalence of food in FBA types are taken into consideration, safe-feeding practices of mothers, feeding position and training about the safe-environment are the basic steps of prevention strategies. One of the most useful ways of preventing FBA cases is to provide planned and continuing education to parents, care givers and all the individuals responsible for the care of the child in order to increase their knowledge and practice levels. • According to the results of the study, majority of FBA cases were younger than one year of age. • The most aspirated FBA types was food. • Pediatric nurses should include age-appropriate foods, safe eating habits, safe environment, routine child care education for parents, and provide parents with first aid skills. University students in Turkey are required to complete a one-year English preparatory education before starting their education at their faculties. For some time, it has been clear that students have difficulties in learning English in these preparatory programs. The reasons behind this have always been a hot topic in research areas. To have a deeper look and offer solutions, it is necessary to understand how these students and their instructors perceive language learning first. Their perceptions reveal the learning theories that they have adopted, and these learning theories shape the way teachers teach and the students learn that language. In this framework, this study aims to reveal the underlying learning theories behind students' and instructors' perceptions of learning English in English preparatory programs. The phenomenology method was used in this study among the qualitative research methods. Ten students and ten instructors were interviewed during the study. Themes and codes were created with the content analysis of the data. It was seen that there is not a single learning theory dominating students' and instructors' perceptions of learning English. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between values and psychological resilience in individuals with substance use disorder. This descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 70 individuals diagnosed with substance use disorder who had applied to the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment and Research Center between February and April 2022 and volunteered to participate in the study. The data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Values Scale, and Brief Resilience Scale (BRS). All participants were male, the average age of substance use onset was 17.67 ± 5.95 years, and they had been receiving addiction treatment for 1.97 ± 2.30 years on average. The average total score of the individuals on the BRS scale was 17.18 ± 1.45. A significant positive correlation was found between the social values, intellectual values, spiritual values, materialistic values, human dignity, and freedom sub-dimensions of the Values Scale and psychological resilience (p <.001). Additionally, spiritual values were found to have the highest positive effect on the psychological resilience levels of individuals (B = 0.185; p <.05). Individuals with higher levels of social values, intellectual values, spiritual values, materialistic values, human dignity, and freedom were found to have higher psychological resilience. Nursing care provided by taking into account the values of the individual and strengthening their values may contribute to the psychological resilience of the patient. • A significant positive correlation was found between values and psychological resilience of individuals diagnosed with substance use disorder. • Spiritual values were found to have the highest and positive effect on the psychological resilience levels of individuals. The purpose of the study is to investigate how the error based activities improve the mathematization competency of preservice mathematics teachers. The study was designed as a case study which is one of the qualitative study design. The sample consists of 38 third grade elementary mathematics teacher candidates studying in a university in Turkey. The study group consisted of 20 pre-service teachers; the comparison group consisted of 18 pre-service teachers. Data were collected through PISA questions consisting of 11 questions total. Data were analysed through descriptive analysis. The findings of the study indicates that the study group performed better than the comparison group on getting the full score for most of the questions. Both of the groups performed mostly on getting full and zero scores and rarely getting partial scores. Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is a common complication after surgery and can lead to additional complications and delayed discharge. This descriptive, cross-sectional study assessed the prevalence of PONV and its associated factors in patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery. The study was conducted between November 2020 and July 2021 with 149 patients in a public hospital in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey. In the first 48 hours after surgery, 40.9% of the patients had nausea and 17.4% had vomiting. Gender, age, medical diagnosis, surgical procedure, operative time, postoperative opioid use, and anxiety were identified as significant risk factors for PONV after orthopaedic surgery (p <.05). These factors should be considered during postoperative follow-up, and patients who are older, female, and have prolonged operative time or anxiety should be monitored more closely for PONV. This study analyzes the impacts of tariffs on global value chain participation by employing value-added trade statistics and the idea of cumulative tariff rates for 12 sectors from 168 countries over the years 1990 to 2015. The main finding is that both market access and input tariff rates have significant negative impacts on sectoral global value chain participation. The effect is persistent in the analysis we employ cumulative tariff rates. Apart from these policy determinants, sector and country-level endowments such as higher relative length, capital intensity, FDI stock, and education level appear as major drivers for higher total, forward, and backward GVC participation.
