The article discusses the finance of church libraries' conservation of pre-1850 books. Guidelines for the collection and preservation of old books are offered including recommendations for acid-free paper boxes, climate control, and the design of shelves for church archives of old books. This paper will examine the findings of a survey on the job roles and responsibilities of Education librarians (academic librarians with liaison responsibilities for the field of Education). Existing literature on Education librarianship has focused on particular facets of the job role, including the unique instructional needs of Education students and specific instruction and outreach initiatives. However, the literature lacks a comprehensive picture of the full spectrum of contemporary Education librarianship. This article provides a snapshot of the diverse educational backgrounds and varied responsibilities of Education librarians related to instruction and instructional design, reference, embedded librarianship, outreach, collaboration, and collection development. Collections care describes actions taken to prevent or limit the deterioration of moveable cultural heritage and ‘collections care documentation’ (CCD) refers to the recording and retention of information relating to those activities. This paper describes the findings of a survey and targeted interviews with staff from a number of U.K. museums, archives and libraries. The results suggest that, while there is much good practice, some organisations face difficulties instituting a framework for CCD which covers all their activities effectively. Large and small organisations have varying challenges to face; the former with specialist staff working in separate departments and the latter with staff who carry out activities relating to preventive conservation but who may not have specialist knowledge. An efficient documentation structure, which is resilient and relevant to the organisation, can support and improve communication as well as raise awareness of the reasons for and methods of preventive conservation. This paper looks at the reasons why even basic practices can sometimes be difficult to achieve and presents ideas for identifying and overcoming barriers. As preventive conservators argue that specified actions influence the long-term sustainability of collections the evidence that allows verification those claims needs to be retained. Over the last two decades, there has been a sea change in knowledge production and dissemination world over; thereby libraries are growing in a rapid changing environment. Numerous ongoing phenomena, such as - information as a commodity, growth in quantity, increased user demand, diminishing budget, raising cost of publications, complex technological requirements, and changing concept of ownership to access are the serious concern; which cannot be reversed. However, price escalations in journal subscription and confusing array of pricing models have prompted the significant growth in number of library-consortia. This paper discusses on consortium as an organization, and is one of the emerging toolkits for libraries to survive; demonstrates the characteristics of successful consortia; recognizes the constrains specific to northeast region; and suggests the formation of a consortium solely for the North Eastern Regional Libraries (NERL) in India. The study draws an attention to the environmental circumstances (viz. topographical, climatic, economic, political, cultural, etc.] that are unique to north-eastern part of India; which makes the NERL potentially different from the mainland, thus hampers the consistent growth of consortia in the region. The paper examines various supportive measures to initiate the Consortium, and uses a model approach to be known as PLACON (stands for PLANNER Consortia); expected to trigger the balanced development of the NERL, in order to take up the challenges of twenty-first century. It highlights basic principles, major projects, and model structure of the Consortium; which would be a centralized, efficient, highly cost-effective system and emphasizes the constant source of external funds that will provide further subsidies in acquisition of online resources. The proposal puts forth major recommendations where 'information infrastructure' is prerequisite to ensure a sustainable growth of the NERL is also discussed. It also presents the strategies for making decisions and proper executions as well as follow-up-actions to be required for implementation of the Consortium in order to achieve the resultant benefits in a real situation. This paper explores how independent institutions, such as archives and libraries, can cooperate on managing a shared bit repository with bit preservation in order to use their resources for preservation in a more cost-effective way. It uses the OAIS Reference Model to provide a framework for systematically analysing the technical and organizational requirements of institutions for a remote bit repository. Instead of viewing a bit repository simply as Archival Storage for the institutions' repositories, we argue for viewing it as consisting of a subset of functions from all entities defined by the OAIS Reference Model. The work is motivated by and used in a current Danish feasibility study for establishing a national bit repository. The study revealed that depending on their missions and the collections they hold, the institutions have varying requirements, such as for bit safety, accessibility, and confidentiality. This study further revealed that requirements for the level of bit safety must be supplemented by risk analysis, which needs to involve elements of the architecture; for example, the number of copies and how independence between the copies is ensured. The paper describes bit repository architecture and its strengths in being flexible in order to offer differentiated services with respect to, among other things, bit safety and cost. The purpose of this paper is to present the Danish inter-library lending (ILL) environment with the focus on its current status, the level of automation and future development. The paper describes Danish ILL cooperation, and finds that focusing on standards and automation delivers a better service. Danish ILL has a high level of automation. This paper presents a review of literature for the evaluation of use of electronic resources and services in Academic libraries. E-metrics and similar methods for evaluation are discussed in detail. The paper highlights how some libraries approached e-metrics to start useful evaluations and dealt with technicalities to achieve better decision making for e-collection, services and infrastructure for their library users. The evaluation of use of e-resources and services is discussed in five parts explaining application of e-metrics, different methods to capture usage data in different settings, types of data requirement by libraries, complexities and technicalities involved in measurement of usage statistics and why such evaluation is significant for libraries. The central library of National Law University Delhi has rich collection of law e-books from various publishers. These e-books were available to the faculty and students through different publisher platforms and it was difficult to find them subject-wise. Library is currently using LIBSYS-7 automation software. The paper depicts detailed experiment carried out to weave these e-books into library catalogue through LIBSYS-7. The whole technical process is described step by step and searching e-books through OPAC. The e-books can be searched subject-wise along-with print books and their full text can be downloaded through OPAC. This experiment establishes library catalogue as core source of information of all library resources. Users get benefitted to a great extent in finding their desired e-book through library catalogue. The paper highlights the importance of collection development in a University Library. The study is based on the acquisition data of Karnataka University Library from 2005-2009. An attempt has been made to know the budget allocation to various subjects and the average price of a book in different disciplines. Collection development in academic libraries has many challenges and one of them concerns determining the number of copies of some books that are required in multiple copies in the library. In the present study, five major academic libraries in New Delhi were surveyed to understand the prevalent policies and practices on determining the number of copies of books that are required in multiple copies. It was found that there was no consistency in the approach to deciding the number of copies in the libraries studied. Further it was noted that all the libraries arbitrarily decided on the number of copies to be purchased. The paper discusses a method that has been evolved to determine the number of copies. The method has been applied in one of the academic libraries under study which when combined with other measures have been found to be more effective in determining the number of copies required. Citation analysis and ranking of journals are key aspects of knowledge management and collection development in academic and research libraries. This paper aims to assist the library collection development in order to fulfill the needs of scientists and research scholars. The study covered the period 1998-2010 and used the reference lists of dissertations submitted by the doctoral students of the molecular biology and biotechnology sciences at the G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, India. The findings of the study showed that citation analysis is a valid, reliable and practical method to provide reasonably accurate information on the use of molecular biology and biotechnology literature by doctoral students. Publishing research in high-quality journals is an integral part of academic life. This paper provides a brief overview of the collection of Delhi Public Library. System (DPLS). The focus was to find out the strengths and weaknesses of the book collection in relation to the population of Delhi, the capital city, India. Questionnaire and interview methods were used to collect data about the collection, and collection development process. Additionally, annual reports and other documents were used for the purpose. The major findings of the study highlights that the DPLS has very low membership with respect to the total population of Delhi, DPLS has only 64883 registered members compared to the 16.75 million population of state, Rate of growth of the collection is also low. Present study reports empirical findings on the user adequacy and services of library collections `among research scholars of university of Mysore. A total of 68 research scholars pursuing their Ph.D degree in various social and biological sciences were randomly selected of which 57 were male research scholars and 11 were female research scholars. A pre determined structured questionnaire on user adequacy and services of library collection was administered to the selected respondents. The data analysis was done using chisquare. Results revealed that in the case of library collections majority opined that only news papers and magazines are adequate. Reference books, text books, journals, thesis and dissertations were found to be moderately adequate as perceived by research scholars. Maps, atlases and charts, and electronic resources were found to be inadequate by the research scholars. In the case of library services, reference services, referral services, newspaper clippings, `reprographic services and internet services were found to be good. During the age of Pan-Americanism (1890-1940), US universities built impressive collections of books, periodicals, government papers, and manuscripts relating to Latin America. Collectors showed great interest in documents and books of the early Spanish colonial period, and they also gathered materials that could help account for the contemporary progress of Latin American societies. Implicit in these early library collections was the assumption that, in order to facilitate commerce and investment in the region, a prior understanding of Latin American culture, society and politics was needed. Hence, humanist and material interests converged in the building of comprehensive collections of 'Latin Americana', well before the formation of Latin American studies. The collective enterprise of building Latin American collections is placed in relation to the parallel and interwoven processes of development of mass-consumer capitalism and the emergence of research universities. Placing the origins of a regional knowledge within the context of capital accumulation and the materiality of 'book accumulation' contributes towards a better understanding of US-Latin American relations and, indirectly, towards a re-thinking of the true origins of multi-disciplinarity and area studies. Much before the Cold War, book-collectors, librarians and bibliographers had contributed to frame the foundations (the questions, interests and arguments) of what would become later the field called 'Latin American studies'. The article reports on acceptance of papers and important documents by the West Coast Regional Center of the Archives of American Art in the United States. These include papers of Elmer Bischoff, Nathan Oliveira, Glenn Wessels, Col. C.E.S. Wood, Albert Elsen, Irma Engel Grabhorn, and records of The Sketch Club and Quay Gallery. It also reports on the conclusion in June of Northwest Asian American Art Project and the direction of its second phase towards acquiring papers and conducting taped interviews.

The article focuses on the needs of the Bureau of Education for the completion of the library collection of the bureau in the U.S. The bureau wants to secure all current educational material from educational associations, boards and societies of state, county and city departments of education. It also calls for all types of textbooks to be sent to the library in order to fill out the history of American education. The bureau also informs the potential of developing a national method of loaning art material.
