At present, electrospinning technology is a versatile and simple method for generating nano-scale membranes, and it provides attractive solutions in solving environmental problems and many energy problems. However, such films generally have low mechanical properties which limit their use in industry. Nanocellulose with excellent mechanical properties, high specific surface area, and renewable nature is an ideal green reinforcing material. In this paper, the cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) coatings on electrospun polyamide 6 (PA6) were prepared via coating method and explored as potential high-performance reinforced materials. The extraction of CNC and the performance of the composite membranes were studied by calculating the yield, scanning electron microscopy, 3D imaging, mechanical testing, and thermogravimetric analysis. Results show that the yield of CNC is impacted by various factors among which acid concentration is the most important. The CNC/PA6 composite film shows lower porosity and higher surface roughness than the pure PA6 membrane. With the increase of CNC concentration, lower porosity and higher surface roughness are obtained. With CNC coatings, tensile strength and Young s modulus of PA6 increase dramatically, while the tensile strain decreases obviously. The Young s modulus of the composite film has been increased by 250%. The composite membranes reveal high mechanical strength and low porosity, which can be applied infiltration and packaging. Purpose - This work aims to increase the dyeability of nylon 6 with basic dyeing through the treatment of the fibre with available and cheap nanomaterials, namely; nano bentonite using an economic and simple method. Design/methodology/approach - Different amounts of nano clay, namely, nano bentonite were dispersed in distilled water using an ultrasonic homogenizer for 1 h. Nylon fabrics were treated with different concentrations of dispersed nano bentonite (1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%wt/v). After half an hour, the samples were padded using SVETEMA laboratory padding system. The padding pressure was adjusted at 3 bar to allow a pickup of 100%. The padded samples were dried at 80°C for 5 min and cured at 160°C for 3 min using ROACHES laboratory thermos-fixation. The cured samples were then washed with running water and left to dry at room temperature. Findings - The obtained results indicated that the modification of polyamide 6 fibres with nano bentonite had a great impact on their dyeing properties. The obtained shades, absorption behaviour and fastness properties were significantly enhanced. Based on these results, it was concluded that polyamide fabrics could be successfully dyed with basic dyes using economical dyeing conditions. Originality/value - This paper introduces a new method the loaded the nano-clay on the synthetic fibres, which are nylon 6 to enhance the dyeability with cationic dyes using the physical method without changing the structure of the fibres. The creep test illustrates the tendency of materials to deform under constant loading; however, this test requires a very long testing time. The use of the time-stress superposition principle (TSSP) allows the prediction of the material performance very beyond the testing time by the construction of the creep master curve. Recently, a new accelerated creep testing method, called the stepped isostress method (SSM) was proposed. This technique requires specific handling of the test data in the construction of the master curve. Initially the method was used on technical yarns. This paper focuses on the effectiveness of this method for specimens having a large thickness. The considered material is a polyamide 6. A smooth creep master curve has been obtained. The obtained master curves by the SSM technique and the classical TSSP method are consistent. This result proofs the robustness of the SSM technique in the construction of the master curve. The majority of research on polymer/layered silicate nanocomposite (PLSN) has focused on molded bulk materials with very few recent studies reporting on the formation of PLSN fibres. Hence, more research needs to be conducted in this area in order to better understand the formation and properties of PLSN nanofibres. In this paper composite fibres of PA6, and organically modified montmorillonite (MMT) of the type Cloisite 15A , were formed from the melt by means of a laboratory spinning machine. Fibres were extruded from the melt at a temperature of 240 °C and spun at take up velocities of 1200, 860, 460 m/min and extrusion velocity of 26 m/min. For the investigations we selected four kinds of manufactured undrawn filaments with the following compositions (by weight): 100/0, 99/1, 98/2 and 95/5 PA6/MMT. The effect of the MMT filler on PA6 crystalline morphology was examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), IR microspectrocopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Because all the types of the fibres studied displayed both α and γ crystals, FTIR spectra were performed in wavenumber regions consisting of characteristic bands of these two polymorphs as well as the Si-O stretching wavenumber region. Analysis of FTIR spectra was performed by means of two-dimensional (2D) correlation spectroscopy. This technique revealed the composition-induced structural changes in the PA6/MMT composite fibres in detail. It was found that the content of montmorillonite in the core is higher than in the skin of the fibre, suggesting that during the formation process of the PA6/MMT composite fibres, montmorillonite was pushed into the fibre core.
