This paper aims to understand the individual factors sustaining the migratory flow of Catholic priests to Italy. Priests' migration cannot be seen as the mere result of lack of vocations and shortage of priests in the host country since their agency, belief, aspirations, and motivations affect their religious identity and, consequently, their integration and participation in the host country. Drawing on qualitative research, this paper collects the voices and the narratives of selected international priests living in Italy. Priests' interviews led to broad-range questions about the nature of migration decisions and their integration into the host society and churches that originate from differences in religiosity, vocations, and missions. That resulted in a typology of 4 types of migrant priests: careerist priests, highly educated and integrated into the host country, driven by career and salary aspiration, and showing a highly politicized vision of religion; servant priests, with a strong missionary impulse to serve the Church as a universal institution transcending abstract and real boarders; evangelist priests who feel the moral obligation to evangelize secularized countries to bring them back to the origins of Catholicism; rebel priests who feel second-class priests, discriminated both within and outside the Church, in a country where they were forced to move, for this reason questioning their sense of clear vocational directions. This paper examines the role of non-profit organizations (NPOs) in supporting welfare benefit claims by Romanian immigrants in vulnerable situations in Berlin. The study utilizes in-depth qualitative interviews with social counsellors, language mediators, and project leads to explore the function of social counselling offices in assisting these individuals. Social counselling is analysed as both an institutionalized policy intervention and a communicative practice focused on problem-solving. The paper highlights the power asymmetry between counsellor and advice-seeker stemming from the counsellor’s superior knowledge of the welfare system, and German society. Social counselling acts as a means of support for individuals to navigate complex institutional arrangements and manage risks in modern society. However, the counsellor’s authoritative role in shaping communication constitutes another dimension of power asymmetry. Faced with challenges such as complex legal regulations and limited resources, social counsellors emphasize the need for advice-seekers to gradually take responsibility for their own lives and interact with welfare institutions. This encouragement of self-sufficiency (orig. Ger. Selbstständigkeit) aligns with the principles of German workfare policies. Non-cooperation from advice-seekers in the context of social counselling can be therefore seen as a form of resistance against disciplinary power within the welfare state. The term Sport has been profoundly entwined with its intrinsic facets: physical fitness, performance, and competence. It incorporates multiple components such as physical activity, exercise, gym workouts, rigorous training sessions, mental health, well-being, motivation, fun and enjoyment. Over the years, Sport has witnessed enormous growth in the field of study throughout the world since it is well-known for its diverse nature. Sport is one of the main fields of study in academics, which comprises many other sub disciplines such as sports science, sports medicine, sports management, sports psychology, sports nutrition, sports literature, and so on. Among the various subfields of study, the integration of sports literature and sports psychology has been taken together for this paper. This in-depth analysis serves as a tool to explore the commonalities and differences between these two study dimensions; as sports studies have evolved as one of the prominent areas of study in the current scenario, the combination of these two sub disciplines attempts to propose a new perspective which considers the main objective for the optimal performance of athletes. Furthermore, this paper also aims to scrutinize sports literature and psychology in detail and conclusively, how these two different sub disciplines serve together for a common purpose, which adds more value, interpretation and meaning to sports and for athletes. This paper proposed a quantization method based on the integration of progressive quantization and distillation learning, aiming to address the shortcomings of traditional quantization methods in maintaining model accuracy while reducing model size. This method converts the weight from floating point number to smaller integer number through progressive quantization, thus reducing the storage space required by the model. At the same time, distillation learning technology is used to integrate the gradually quantified model with the original floating-point model to improve the accuracy of the model. The experimental results show that the proposed method can maintain high accuracy of the model while reducing its size, and has better performance compared to traditional quantization methods. The paper presents a methodology for multi-track transmission processing of signals from mechanical-navigation sensors describing the state of the ship's motion vector by using a neural network computer system. The integration of mechanical systems with navigation systems on a sea vessel is aimed at creating a uniform decision-making module for the crew steering the ship and supervising propulsion systems in order to minimize the level of risk in controlling a sea vessel in hazardous situations. The concept of integrating radio devices with navigation and engineering systems will enable effective ship management based on sources coming from external and internal sensors of the ship. The processing of navigational and mechanical signals proposed in the article will allow to build an effective prediction of the developing situation in case of danger according to the proposed algorithm for the officer of the watch in charge of the ship. Foundation Years (FY) have proliferated within UK Higher Education in recent years, and their benefits and successes have been well documented (e.g. the enhancement of opportunities for underrepresented students, second-chance education, skills and confidence enhancement, and a pipeline into STEM. However, when managed centrally, their implementation can be a contentious site of interdisciplinary unease and ‘mutual suspicion’ and as much as a fruitful avenue for innovative collaboration. One of the key issues is the question of how to embed academic skills / literacies development within a meaningful, ‘integrated’, interdisciplinary context effectively whilst utilising expertise from both academic departments and learning development / skills teams, and thus navigating disparate disciplinary agendas, communities of practice and strategic priorities. This paper reports on how this complex terrain was navigated at Royal Holloway, University of London, to successfully embed academic skills (using Universal Design for Learning pedagogy) into an academically authentic, inclusive, interdisciplinary ‘Global Perspectives and Academic Practice’ unit that facilitated student integration into academic departments. Whilst we report on how the programme led to higher than sector average attainment, retention and progression (the EE described it as a ‘TEF Gold offering’), we critically analyse the challenges of embedding and aligning such provision within the communities of practice of a researchintensive institution. Throughout, we suggest ways forward at both practical and strategic levels to ensure the immense potential of integrated academic literacies development within FYs can be realised. The disease control program is critical to the agenda of social justice. A generalist approach to the disease control program involves understanding its complexity and prevention from various perspectives, including ecological theory. The integration of the disease control program into the existing healthcare delivery system has been advocated over many decades, with an emphasis on the medical model of disease control. Integration has been widely considered as a means to achieve an effective and efficient health system. This approach has been widely adopted in low-middle-income countries to integrate vertical programs such as leprosy, malaria, HIV/AIDs, and others. However, studies suggest that there is a lack of evidence about the effectiveness of health system integration. The available evidence shows that integration of the health system can have a mixed, negative, or no impact on the health system. This growing enthusiasm toward health system integration is primarily based on the perceived benefits of an integrated approach. This discussion paper draws on the experience of the integration of the National Leprosy Elimination Program in India. It highlights the factors that affected the integration of leprosy programs in Bihar and also affected the pursuit of social justice for people who have been marginalized in our modern world. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) are two of the essential tools to design and develop new products. CAD systems help to design a new product efficiently, whereas CAE systems are used to predict and assess the future functionalities (durability, structural strength, etc.) of a product. Usually, these two systems work independently; however, their mutual dependency is a topic of interest for the researchers. This paper discusses the contemporary research efforts in the domain of CAD to CAE integration and later find the research gap. Based on the research gap this paper develop a methodology to integrate a CAD to CAE systems where scientific data format HDF (Hierarchical Data Format) acts as a bridge to link the gap between a CAD and CAE system. The virtual prototype of a product is getting accurate with the advancement of CAD systems; hence, the transferability of those models to a CAE system has become more sophisticated using traditional (e.g.,.step,.iges files) methodologies. Since HDF is often used to handle massive and complex datasets for various research domains; hence, in this research effort HDF acts as a data repository neutral system to interact with the CAD and CAE systems. Based on the comprehensive literature review, this research effort aims to develop an uninterrupted integrated platform to handle complex design and analysis models using a big open-source data handling platform HDF (Hierarchical Data Format). MATLAB is used to bridge from the CAD system to HDF primarily and later from the HDF to CAE. With the progress of new technologies of information and communication, more andmore producers of data exist. On the other hand, the web forms a huge support of all these kinds of data. Unfortunately, existing data is not proper due to the existence of the same information in different sources, aswell as erroneous and incomplete data. The aim of data integration systems is to offer to a user a unique interface to query a number of sources. A key challenge of suchsystems is todealwith conflicting information fromthe samesource or fromdifferent sources. We present, in this paper, the resolution of conflict at the instance level into two stages: references reconciliation and data fusion. The reference reconciliationmethods seek to decide if two data descriptions are references to the same entity in reality. We define the principles of reconciliation method then we distinguish the methods of reference reconciliation, first on howto use the descriptions of references, then theway to acquire knowledge. We finish this sectionby discussing some current data reconciliation issues that are the subject of current research. Data fusion in turn, has the objective to merge duplicates into a single representation while resolving conflicts between the data. We define first the conflicts classification, the strategies for dealing with conflicts and the implementing conflict management strategies. The present paper develops an integrated approach for joint optimization of preventive maintenance (PM) planning and quality control policy in a single machine manufacturing system. Considering the economic dependency between quality and maintenance parameters, the proposed model aims to optimize the four decision variables, viz. PM interval, sample size, sample frequency and control limit coefficient to minimize the expected total integrated cost per unit time. The imperfect age-based PM model is applied which addresses the most practical issue that a unit may not always be maintained to an as-good-as-new state. Analysing the problem to be NP-hard in nature, a recently developed meta-heuristic named Jaya algorithm is applied to retrieve the near-optimum solutions. The peculiarity of Jaya as compared to conventional heuristics is that it is a parameter-less algorithm thus does not require tuning to algorithm-specific parameters thereby minimizing computational complexity to a great extent. A numerical example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the integrated economic design of PM and process quality control parameters. The paper evaluates the Croatia's seven-year membership in the European Union based on selected macroeconomic indicators by using a methodological approach, counterfactual analysis, and a synthetic control method. The results showed that the effect of the accession stimulated the economic growth and components of aggregate demand, income, savings and sectoral productivity. Also, strong disturbances with the onset of the crisis in 2009 were detected, the effects of which ultimately had a negative consequence in terms of more successful economic integration. Accession to the EU halted the decline in macroeconomic indicators and began a mild, but still insufficient recovery. The research confirms a strong trend of export development after 2013, a strong turn and increase in savings, a strong and significant decline in the value added of the agriculture sector as well as not recovered consumption. COVID-19 has exposed and exacerbated the health inequalities across and between European Union member states. It has also raised the profile of EU health policy and the highlighted the value of European cooperation in health. Early failures to respond adequately, coupled with this increased salience, have given rise to a series of initiatives designed to strengthen and expand the EU's role in health. This presents an opportunity to address the imbalances in the EU's institutional and legal structure which prevent it from addressing health inequalities more effectively. Drawing on changes underway in the public health, internal market and fiscal governance elements of EU health policy, this paper explores the potential for the post-pandemic EU health policy framework to better support the reduction of health inequalities. The Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry has not adopted digital transformation enthusiastically like other industries, for instance, manufacturing, aerospace or finance. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an innovative technology that is considered as an opportunity for the AEC industry to move to the digital era and improve the collaboration among stakeholders by applying Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). BIM provides all required tools and automations to achieve end-to-end communication, data exchange and information sharing among collaborators. Accordingly, virtual 3D models, created by the BIM process, delivered as physical assets, monitored in real-time and managed using Building Management Systems (BMS), can adopt the Internet of Things (IoT) designs and services. However, the implementation of IoT in a highly modular environment with various moving parts and inter-dependencies between stakeholders leads to security concerns. Therefore, this paper proposes system design that employs the blockchain technology as a measure to secure and control the framework that involves integrated IoT and BIM technologies. Although this paper considers system design applied in a smart museum, the authors assume that design is generic and applicable in other building categories. In practice, it is often necessary to design an array that will yield desired radiation pattern. For this purpose, several time-consuming algorithms are introduced in the literature. In this paper, an analytical method is presented to synthesize the radiation pattern of planar and ring arrays. In this method, two new parameters are defined to reconstruct the array factor and simplify the calculation complexity. To accomplish this, we use the double integral to generate two distinct Sinc functions from a bivariate function utilizing the sampling theory notion. This stage generates a set of linear equations that, when solved, yields the complex excitation coefficients. The proposed method is verified by presenting several practical examples. Also, the performance of the method is compared with that of other approaches. The results show that the proposed method is a good candidate for synthesizing a prescribed pattern of planar arrays. • We reviewed 209 climate change integration articles published between 2010–2020. • A sub-sample of 39 articles focusing on food systems was identified and analysed. • 40 % of case studies analysed document explicit evidence for lack of integration. • There is a lack of consistency in how climate policy integration is characterized. • None of the articles focused on integration of climate, food systems and health. The compounding effects of climate change on food systems have led researchers into developing approaches aimed at understanding the multiple trade-offs and synergies associated to dealing with climate change. As countries continue to develop climate policies, in particular adaptation strategies, it is evident that these need to be articulated more effectively across multiple policy domains and jurisdictions. Climate policy integration is often sought to improve policy coherence and climate governance at different scales. The aim of this paper is to better understand to what degree climate policy integration is being achieved and what are the common barriers and enablers. Additional emphasis is placed on identifying challenges and opportunities specifically relevant to food systems and the attainment of food security goals. The study was conducted using the PRISMA Statement and four-phase diagram for reporting results of systematic reviews. The dataset analysed included 209 peer-review articles published in the period 2010−2020. The review shows that although climate policy integration is increasingly discussed as a preferred strategy to deal more effectively with complex and multiple policy domains, existing institutional and governance structures pose barriers to the effective integration of climate goals across sectors, approaches and jurisdictions. There are specific opportunities and challenges for food systems and food security. Among these opportunities are the conceptual compatibility which can be derived from land-use strategies that generate synergies between adaptation, mitigation and sustainable development goals. In addition, the agricultural sector has often developed vertical structures for the delivery of support services which can be utilized to facilitate vertical integration and implementation of strategies. This paper describes theoretical reliability analysis of a system containing n optical ports in which each optical port contains m redundant vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers. We study the wearout failure statistics, modelled with lognormal distribution, for three different chip-level integration approaches: (A) each laser on its own chip, resulting in m·n chips, (B) m redundant lasers associated with one channel are on a single chip, resulting in n chips, and (C) all m·n lasers integrated on a single chip. We present a model that includes the run-to-run reliability parameter fluctuation and find that the three integration schemes consistently exhibit MTTF(C) ≥ MTTF(A) ≥ MTTF(B) for lognormal distribution shape parameters observed in commercial vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers. We also provide analytic approximations for the failure statistics for all three integration approaches enabling straightforward calculation of the failure statistics for any redundancy and channel number. The paper looks at the concept of a New Integrated Maritime Data Communication System based on the synthesis of multisensory mechanical-navigation signals and information. Problems with processing of safety, quickly and correctly manoeuvring decisions by ship Deck Officers associated with continuous receipt of too much information provided to the ship navigation bridge are analysed. It pointed to the need to take into account in the decision-making process the management of the vessel, not only data of a navigational nature but also data of a mechanical nature. An analysis of today's integrated navigation bridge systems on ships was carried out, indicating the weaknesses of the existing solutions. There are systems already integrating signals from multisensor sources. However, they are based on the use of navigation signals only. Based on the analysis, it was concluded that existing systems could lead to the generation of erroneous and incomplete navigational decisions resulting in maritime accidents. An algorithm of The Fusion Data Processing System with Integrated Multisensory Module was proposed to take into account in the decision-making process the missing signals generated from marine mechanical devices having a direct impact on the ship's movement track. It is new to propose the use of ANN methods to develop rapid decisions. An example of algorithm with the results of numerical studies of signal fusion from various sensors generating input information to the vessel positioning navigation system is presented. Challenges exist across the three dimensions of construction sustainability (economic; social and environmental) due to low productivity, waste, safety, and environmental hazards attributed to existing construction management practices. Lean construction (LC) has been widely accepted as a robust philosophy to enable sustainable construction (SC) practices. However, the existing literature is more inclined toward defining the integration between LC and sustainability through LC practices and techniques. Little research tackles the challenges of achieving sustainable goals within the current practices. Therefore, this paper aims to present a strategy that can help the construction industry overcome the challenges of SC in the traditional construction management practice by using LC. The challenges of SC are identified through a systematic literature review approach with metadata analysis. Compared with LC principles, tools and techniques, the strategy focused on identifying (1) the power and potential of LC principles and (2) the best LC practices/techniques that help in overcoming these SC challenges. The study results showed 20 out of 32 challenges identified can be overcome by using LC integrated with SC. Finally, a Lean Approaching Sustainability Tools (LAST) matrix is developed to provide guidelines to the construction stakeholders for the selection of LC practices/tools/techniques in overcoming the top 15 most important challenges. Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) is an emerging concept based on industrial data management. The implementation of PHM in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is currently limited due to data accessibility difficulties. In order to overcome this pitfall, one could formalize the operators' knowledge and integrate it in the SME's information system. Thus, the implementation of the PHM will be based on this information system associating data with knowledge. To this end, we propose a collaborative PHM approach (X-PHM) to ensure the extraction of operators' knowledge and its integration into the PHM process. The decision resulting from this approach is restituted with a concern of explainability. This paper details the proposed approach while focusing on the data management process and its integration in explainable decisions. This article is an attempt to contribute to the discourse regarding the Europeanisation process from an alternative perspective: that of religiocultural aesthetics. Namely, stemming from the H2020 research project titled 'Go Religioscapes' and the empirical qualitative research thereof, the main lines of reasoning as well as the main argument of this paper is that a hybrid, collective European identity is possible and that this hybridity can be cultivated within the context of intra-European migrant religioscapes. With Christianity being a historically and culturally consolidated common denominator among European peoples, religiocultural adherence, in a broader context, can be utilised as a unifying factor in a post-secular sense. The osmosis of heterodox religious aesthetics is indicative of a harmonious symbiosis between denominations and further of the emergence of a new aesthetic - and symbolic constellations thereof, which in turn function as memorialisation of a hybrid identity narrative. Given that Christianity transcends nationality, it can function as an organic cultural bond between European peoples, as attested by the emergent thematic patterns that are identifiable in the Greek Orthodox migrant religioscapes of Great Britain and Germany. Fast tool servo (FTS) machining is a highly efficient approach to generate optical freeform surfaces and microstructures, where submicrometric form accuracy and nanometric surface finish are often required. The on-machine surface measurement (OMSM) is an enabling technology to improve the metrology efficiency and machining accuracy of FTS. However, the integration of the OMSM with FTS on an ultra-precision machine is a huge challenge due to the complexity of data processing and synchronization. In this paper, a dedicated controller is in-house developed with data processing algorithms for the integration. Digital Innovation (DI), Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-physical Systems (CPS) offer new opportunities for enterprises but also cause new challenges for Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM). Based on an industrial case from power garden products illustrating potentials and challenges of DI and IoT, this paper investigates the integration of product-IT into enterprise architecture (EA). Product-IT includes the embedded IT-systems in physical products and services / components for operations, maintenance or evaluation purposes. The paper investigates problems in product-IT and enterprise-IT integration and challenges for the field of EAM. The case study shows that industry implemented pragmatic solutions for dealing with P-IT integration into EA, but there is a clearly expressed demand for improvements and a need for refined EAM standards in this context. Over the last decades, one of the steadiest challenges for manufacturing companies is the need for reduction of time-to-market and for enhancement of the efficiency of their product engineering process (PEP). Triggering factors are changing customer demands, shorter technology cycles that enforce product changes and a noticeable market saturation. Hence, companies need to increase the efficiency of the PEP despite considerable improvements in this field such as concepts of simultaneous engineering and digital factory. Today, the three main phases of the PEP (product development (PD), manufacturing system planning (MSP) and manufacturing) are still performed sequentially. Due to already existing improvements in parallelizing steps of the PEP, efforts for further improvements should concentrate on the interface between MSP and PD. Traditionally, MSP starts after PD is completed. Thus, on one side, information regarding the product's manufacturing is withheld from product developers. As a result, decision making assistance for selection between design alternatives is not available. On the other side, MSP is not able to influence the product design. This leads to more expensive or not manufacturable products. This paper presents an innovative approach for an integrated MSP based on fuzzy information from early phases of PD. It solely uses information from specification phase and conceptual design phase of PD within the first steps of MSP. The approach aims at noticeable improvements e. g. more frequent feedback loops, reduction of expensive correction loops after product development, and a smooth manufacturing ramp-up. The paper summarizes the theoretical foundations for PD and MSP, highlights the need for research, and outlines further steps for the concept development. Additionally, early phases of PD and MSP are described and investigated in more detail with regard to links between the two domains. In factory design projects, several disciplines such as manufacturing system planning must exchange design information on an ongoing basis. Due to the high dependencies among the disciplines, this information must be carefully checked. While semi-automatic methods for checking geometric information exist, the validation of semantic information is often done manually and document-based causing errors and an inefficient, laborious collaboration process. In order to create an expert system for BIM-based factory design through automatic checking of semantic information, this paper lays the corresponding foundation regarding (i) domain-specific validation rules and (ii) software implementation possibilities by using a two-round Delphi study. The manufacturing industries in a number of high-labour-cost economies are undergoing a shift towards increased automation and intelligence typified by the 'Industry 4.0' paradigm. Advances from computer science research including digital informatics enables the addition of intelligence and autonomy to the flexible and reconfigurable manufacturing systems developed by manufacturing systems research. One such advance is the development of Data Distribution Services (DDSs) that enable the robust and timely distribution of high-quality data in a scalable manner. This paper describes how a DDS can be used to integrate systems across a production enterprise, including directly on a shop floor rather than using additional specialised shop floor integration components often required by other communications protocols.
