The paper examined the challenges of maintenance of paper based archival information materials and strategies for enhancement in academic libraries in South East, Nigeria which doubled as the objectives of the study. Descriptive survey research method was used for the study. The population consisted of 277 library staff in academic libraries of government owned institutions. Questionnaire and structured interview guide was used to collect data which was analyzed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. Mean scores and standard deviation were used to analyze data generated for the two research questions while ttest was used for the hypothesis. Real limits of numbers were used to determine the bench mark. The major findings of the study showed the challenges involved in maintenance of archival materials to include inadequate funding and tropical climate that breeds insects. The strategies involved in archival maintenance practices include: recruiting adequate personnel in libraries, provision of maintenance policies, adequate funding of libraries for proper maintenance of archives, proper control of insect by the use of insecticides and adequate training of maintenance personnel. The hypothesis tested revealed that there is no significant difference in the mean ratings between the male and female library staff in respect to strategies for maintenance practices of paper based archival paper materials in the academic libraries. The paper recommended that the library administrators should engage qualified and competent staff on the field of Library and Information Science and ICT to ensure adequate maintenance of archival materials in academic libraries. To improve the quality of semester-long policy projects of upper-division political science students, a faculty member and research librarian collaborated to reframe the assignment in hopes of improving students' research skills and information literacy, revising the traditional one-way model of faculty sending students to the library to get information. The outcomes over the course of two semesters have been promising. Citations in two sets of student papers showed a remarkable increase in the number and quality of sources used. This suggests that when faculty work with librarians throughout the semester, such collaboration can improve students' information literacy and thus their coursework and overall learning. In recent years, libraries have turned to marketing and outreach to better educate library users about services and resources while gaining an understanding of their needs. Marketing and outreach are relatively new concepts in academic law librar-ies, and librarians tasked with these functions have found resources and examples of this type of work to be lacking. In this paper, first presented at the 2023 LACUNY Institute, the author discusses definitions of imposter syndrome and how imposter syndrome fits within the diversity model. The diversity model, as used in this paper, emerges from an oversimplified framing of racial inequity as a problem that is solved by simply hiring diverse bodies to appear inclusive. In conjunction with the proliferation of imposter syndrome in post-secondary institutions, the ongoing phenomenon of imposter syndrome among librarians and academics reveals an underlying systemic problem rather than individual shortcomings. Workplace discomfort in postsecondary institutions is too easily brushed off as imposter syndrome, without any critical self-reflection on the underlying causes that contribute to such high rates of individuals experiencing the syndrome. While the pathological "diagnosis" of imposter syndrome is unproductive in combating the underlying systemic problems that contribute to such experiences, there are two distinct uses of imposter syndrome in our lexicon: imposter-syndrome-as-pathology and the affective experience of imposter syndrome. In critiquing imposter-syndrome-as-pathology, this paper highlights how the diversity model pushes racialized information professionals to experience imposter syndrome. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper examines the challenges in implementing the Resource Description and Access in bibliographic records and library software. To meet this end, a survey approach was employed, and a questionnaire was used to collect the data. The statistical sample size was determined as 95 librarians from Tehran University, 48 librarians from Allameh Tabataba’i University, and 35 librarians from Tarbiat Modares University. According to the results, the respondents believe that the main problems for implementing RDA in academic libraries in Iran are, in turn: “problems in switching to new library software", "problems of not having enough information and knowledge to implement RDA", "problems in the internal communication of libraries", "data incompatibility", "lack of a trustee to apply the RDA rules", and "problem with library users". Therefore, using a correspondence table and designing a comprehensive manual in library software is needed to guide the librarians and catalogers in implementing RDA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents a series of questions that library catalogers should answer before analyzing the report "Redefining th Academic Library: Managing the Migration to Digital Information Services." The author notes that while the report discussed the problems relating to access to electronic books and embedding librarians in courses and departments, it failed to cover issues on library cataloging and metadata. He believes that the report should tackle advances in cataloging, the quality of cataloging and metadata and financial issues.

The student's academic success is considered as a measure of institution's performance and their departments, therefore also of the libraries. The purpose of this paper is to review the literature to determine the impact of university libraries on student's academic success. A four-step literature review methodology was performed. The search was made in Web of Science Core Collection and Google Academic databases. The most used elements to measure this success were: grade point average, semester grades and retention. The most used library services were: borrowing, information literacy, library visit, computer login and library website login. The literature analyzed in this research shows that university libraries have a clear positive impact on the student's academic success. Also, they have a role in maintaining academic integrity and promote nine Sustainable Development Goals. Libraries embrace all aspects of sustainability. However, the focus is on environmental aspects. The importance given to this subject increases starting from 2017. Objective – The purpose of this research project was to examine the state of library research guides supporting systematic reviews in the United States as well as services offered by the libraries of these academic institutions. This paper highlights the informational background, internal and external educational resources, informational and educational tools, and support services offered throughout the stages of a systematic review. Methods – The methodology centered on a content analysis review of systematic review library research guides currently available in 2023. An incognito search in Google as well as hand searching were used to identify the relevant research guides. Keywords searched included: academic library systematic review research guide. Results – The analysis of 87 systematic review library research guides published in the United States showed that they vary in terms of resources and tools shared, depth of each stage, and support services provided. Results showed higher levels of information and informational tools shared compared to internal and external education and educational tools. Findings included high coverage of the introductory, planning, guidelines and reporting standards, conducting searches, and reference management stages. Support services offered fell into three potential categories: consultation and training; acknowledgement; and collaboration and co-authorship. The most referenced systematic review software tools and resources varied from subscriptionbased tools (e.g., Covidence and DistillerSR) to open access tools (e.g., Rayyan and abstrackr). Conclusion – A systematic review library research guide is not the type of research guide that you can create and forget about. Librarians should consider the resources, whether educational or informational, and the depth of coverage when developing or updating systematic review research guides or support services. Maintaining a systematic review research guide and support service requires continual training and maintaining familiarity with all resources and tools linked in the research guide. Libraries have a significant impact in the attainment of the SDGs. They are considered worldwide as the most reliable information center that acquires processes, organizes stores, retrieves and disseminates information to users. In this context, the study investigates the role of academic libraries in realizing sustainable development goals, with a specific case study on the Mohamed Sekkat University Library and its contribution to the Global Goals for Sustainable Development by the United Nations (SDGs). This paper examines the factors accountable for users' tendency to use the free web resources for achieving their academic goals and also the reasons that prevented the users from using the credible sources of the library for their academic needs. Further, this study also attempted to ascertain whether user category has any influence on the factors which boost the use of web for academic purpose. A questionnaire- based survey was conducted for five universities of Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab including post graduate students, research scholars and faculty members. The findings showed that a majority of respondents from three categories chose the web because of the speedy retrieval of information, ease of access, no need for any advanced search skills to search on internet and further it saved their time when compared with the online e-resources subscribed by the library. Most of them found it difficult to physically visit the library. They were not familiar with which e-resources were available on subscribed databases or on the web. About half of users stated that no updation was made on the library website about newly subscribed e-resources. Discontinued e-resources were not removed from library website when users searched them for information and found nothing. The paper recommends that user education programmes should be conducted and the interface of the library should be made user friendly so as to encourage the users to use authentic information from the e-resources subscribed by the library for academic purpose. This study demonstrates that a library instruction observation instrument can effectively foster critical self-reflection among academic library faculty and staff on their teaching practices. The paper outlines the instrument's design, which gathers low inference observations on instructors' use of questioning as a pedagogical strategy based on recommendations from the LIS and education literature. To test and refine the instrument's design, the instructors' utilised the instrument to collect data from classes taught by five participating instructors, who, during postobservation interviews, engaged in thoughtful reflections on their class planning, student participation, and teaching philosophy. They also provided valuable critiques of the usefulness of the instrument. Through analysing the observee reflections and the data from the observation instrument, this study aims to provide academic libraries with a method to incorporate an observation instrument in a peer observation program. This paper explores the characteristics of open leadership to support academic library leaders in promoting open science. It also aims to identify the existing leadership practices related to the implementation of open science from the viewpoint of Malaysian academic library leaders. The research employs a quantitative approach, utilizing online surveys distributed among 50 leaders from Malaysian public and private academic libraries. The study is anchored in the Open Leadership Framework, encompassing three key practices: design (contextualization), build (structure and system creation), and empower (personal leadership skills). Open leadership, viewed as a response to technological advancements and the use of multimedia communication tools, is framed within the principles, practices, and skills that communities can leverage to achieve shared goals. The findings from the design principle indicate unanimous agreement among respondents on the importance of collaboration, both internally and externally, for the success of the open science agenda, aligning with the principles of community interactions. In the build principle, all respondents share the belief that libraries should implement training and competence development programs, aligning with mentoring principles. This adherence corresponds to the principles of commons-based production, emphasizing the encouragement of publication in open-access journals, and project management, highlighting the pivotal role of libraries in determining the university's open data repository. In the empowerment principle, a total response of 61.5 percent under the "makes connection" principle, emphasizes the need for collaboration between the library, the university's Information Technology Center, and the Research Management Center to provide researcher profiles. This study not only provides insights into the current landscape of open leadership practices among Malaysian academic library leaders but also offers valuable implications for fostering collaboration, training initiatives, and empowerment strategies in the realm of open science. By understanding and embracing these principles, academic institutions and libraries can navigate the evolving scholarly environment, effectively contributing to the advancement of open science practices. This paper sought to enumerate theses produced by postgraduate researchers of Malaysian universities that focus on international students enrolled in Malaysian tertiary institutions. Using the Malaysian Theses Online (MyTO) and the university libraries' Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) databases to gather the initial data, this paper went on to present metadata about the researchers as well as the participants of these postgraduate studies. It concluded that though there has been quantitative progress since the first thesis on international students was produced in 1999, there is a need to address the unevenness of focus that was leaning more towards the experiences of postgraduate students in public institutions of higher learning and less on those enrolled in undergraduate programs, especially at private institutions of higher learning in Malaysia. Due to the increasing presence of artificial intelligence (AI) in developed countries, this paper examines the adoption of AI for effective library services in academic libraries in Nigeria. The paper defines artificial intelligence while chronicling its history. He also identified the advantages of adopting artificial intelligence in academic libraries, which include ease of use, endless functionality, and the ability to perform complex work, among others, and the challenges faced by library management towards adopting artificial intelligence, which include financial uncertainty, job loss, and technological defects, among others. The paper concluded that adoption of AI in academic libraries sets a new level of efficient and effective library service delivery, but adoption in developing countries such as Nigeria is low due to some identified challenges. The paper recommended that government and library management should come together to suggest the way forward for academic libraries in terms of meeting the latest standard for the use of AI in libraries; library staff must undergo training and retraining in the use of artificial intelligence in providing library services, among other things. The quality of teaching and learning is the key to sustainable development. This has inspired innumerable educational stakeholders to search for means of restoring quality teaching and learning in Nigeria's education system. To accomplish this, significant epistemological efforts have been made over the years on teaching methods/models, student learning styles, and curriculum content reforms. However, the role of academic libraries has not been given any significant consideration. It is, therefore, the conviction of this paper that sustainable development depends profoundly on the availability of information provided and accessed through a well-managed library for effective teaching, learning, and research. So, using desktop literature review and the author's experience, this paper examines the roles of academic libraries in restoring quality teaching and learning for sustainable development in Nigerian institutions of higher learning. The study recommends and concludes that there may be scope for the augmentation of social media and ICT information literacy in academic library service delivery, which may address a plethora of challenges faced by the government in restoring quality teaching and learning for sustainable development. This paper expounds the application and perceived impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic libraries in Nigeria. Libraries especially in developing countries may become moribund in the 21 century unless they begin to harness new, smart and intelligent technologies for improved operations and service delivery. This research adopted a literature-based approach to x-ray the applications and perceived impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic libraries in Nigeria. Through a systematic analysis and review of literature, the study brought to limelight the current state of AI integration in academic libraries in Nigeria and its possible impact on library services, collections, users, professionals and general library operations and services. The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic libraries has the potential to revolutionize library operations and services. Some of the identifies AI tools include: Natural Language Recognition, Robotics, Big Data, Data Mining, Chatbot, Machine Learning, Pattern Recognition and Expert system. Findings from the study revealed that the application of AI in academic libraries have the potentials to increases productivity, improved customer satisfaction through personalization, easy availability and accessibility of information, easy collaboration and knowledge sharing, virtual assistance and chatbots, and ultimately increase overall operational effectiveness. This paper also explored some of the challenges associated with the application of AI technologies in academic libraries in Nigeria such as poor ICT skills and technical expertise, high initial costs of implementation, phobia for job displacement, epileptic power supply, poor maintenance culture, resistance to change, poor network connectivity, privacy and ethical implications, etc. To maximize the potential benefits of AI applications in academic libraries in Nigeria, it is crucial for these libraries to implement appropriate planning, guidelines and regulations on AI use as well as training and retraining of academic librarians to acquire the required ICT skills, knowledge and competence in order to adapt in the present digital and changing library environment. This paper sought to obtain a deeper understanding of the conversion strategies adopted by the selected South African university libraries and the subsequent challenges experienced thereof. This paper presents a case study for which data were collected through a qualitative-quantitative approach from the three public university libraries in the Gauteng province of South Africa, which had converted their spaces into the research commons (RC). The study sample consisted of the RC manager/librarian from each of the three libraries. The qualitative part of the study employed face-to-face interviews, non-participatory observation and information from websites. The quantitative approach used a structured questionnaire. Data were analysed using an inductive approach. Current library literature on RC does not encompass a holistic approach regarding how the conversion was planned and the challenges thereof. The study findings and recommendations include the formation of a research library consortium (RLC), ongoing user and space assessment to adjust services and resources to suit changing technologies, postgraduate needs and learning styles. Challenges included model misconception by librarians; planning and change management deficiencies; homogeneous staffing models; and budgetary constraints. The study recommends that essential conditions of the cultural commons (CC) be incorporated as the foundational RC conversion process to create a pool of collaboratively endorsed resources to enhance the mission of their parent institutions. The study also recommends that conversion should occur within a planned and collaborative framework to avoid the “tragedy of the commons” implementation and to preserve benefits derived for future sustainability. Academic library services have undergone significant change since the development of ICT. Thus, managing academic library service in the digital age requires a strategic approach that incorporates technology, user engagement, and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of students, faculty, and researchers. This study therefore, explores the role of ICT in the modern management of academic library services. This study specifically centers on identifying the challenges of managing academic libraries in digital environment and suggests strategies for effective management of academic libraries in digital era. The desk research approach and brainstorming with professional colleagues were combined to elicit the facts for the study and adopted content analysis of various literatures relating to the subject was used to draw inferences. The empathy of the paper is on how academic libraries can leverage ICT to enhance various services, including lending, circulation, and cataloguing. Additionally, the study highlights the potential of social media platforms to address the technological needs of library users. Various aspects of library services, such as Library Management, e-Libraries, online cataloguing, and social media services, digitization, Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) were examined in terms of how ICT has impacted them. Furthermore, the paper discusses the challenges associated with managing library services in the 21st century. To address these challenges, the study suggests incorporating ICT skills into library curricula and increasing funding for ICT infrastructure. In a faculty-focused, or “teach the teachers” (TTT) model of information literacy (IL), librarians would spend a significant portion of their time on faculty development. To support the adoption of this approach, there needs to be evidence that librarians can act effectively as faculty developers and that faculty development (also referred to as academic or educational development) can produce positive changes in teaching practices and student learning. This paper explores the faculty development literature in order to better understand the potential of the faculty-focused model of IL. Two research questions guided the review. What can the literature on the effectiveness of faculty development tell us about the potential of the faculty development approach to IL? Additionally, what insight can the literature on the background, experiences, and identity of faculty developers provide to our understanding of librarians acting as faculty developers? The analysis provides indications that a model of IL instruction focused on faculty could support increased integration of IL into the curriculum, as well as additional evidence that faculty development should be considered a viable role for librarians. However, the review also surfaced concerns about the identity and status of developers and the challenges of assessing faculty development that are relevant to librarians’ adoption of the faculty-focused model of IL. By exploring the faculty development literature as part of a consideration of the TTT approach to IL, this paper provides a valuable perspective to the ongoing debates about the future of IL. The author, who worked at the Library of the Hungarian Parliament for 42 years and was head of the access services department for 25 years, has previously written about the activities of the institution’s directors in library journals and in a monograph as well. In this paper, he outlines the career of the deputy directors by examining two significant periods in the history of the library, which is still in operation today. The first period lasted until 1950, when the Library Committee, a permanent unit of the House of Representatives, which had played a key role in the oversight and management of the library for eight decades, was abolished. In the second era, formally from 1952 to 1991, the library remained in the building of the Parliament, but was removed from the parliamentary organisational framework and placed under the control of the Ministry of Culture, and we can follow the life of the library through the personalities of the deputy directors. (In the short transitional period from 1950 to 1952, when the oneparty dictatorship was already well established and the Presidential Council took over the majority of the powers of the Parliament as a new body, the preparation for the second era was actually taking place.) In the 110 years examined by the paper, the second men of the Library’s leadership have often played a very important role, first of all in the development of a cultural institution that provided information to the deputies and then to the public at large. Many of them also made their way to the managerial position. The negative role played by deputy directors, who had a detrimental influence on the life of the prestigious library, is also discussed. The author, who worked at the Library of the Hungarian Parliament for 42 years and was head of the access services department for 25 years, has previously written about the activities of the institution’s directors in library journals and in a monograph as well. In this paper, he outlines the career of the deputy directors by examining two significant periods in the history of the library, which is still in operation today. The first period lasted until 1950, when the Library Committee, a permanent unit of the House of Representatives, which had played a key role in the oversight and management of the library for eight decades, was abolished. In the second era, formally from 1952 to 1991, the library remained in the building of the Parliament, but was removed from the parliamentary organisational framework and placed under the control of the Ministry of Culture, and we can follow the life of the library through the personalities of the deputy directors. (In the short transitional period from 1950 to 1952, when the oneparty dictatorship was already well established and the Presidential Council took over the majority of the powers of the Parliament as a new body, the preparation for the second era was actually taking place.) In the 110 years examined by the paper, the second men of the Library’s leadership have often played a very important role, first of all in the development of a cultural institution that provided information to the deputies and then to the public at large. Many of them also made their way to the managerial position. The negative role played by deputy directors, who had a detrimental influence on the life of the prestigious library, is also discussed. This paper is an exploratory investigation about the contribution of libraries in achieving the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The study focusses on how libraries could formulate plans to integrate the SDGs into all its programmes and projects. The study identifies nine SDGs that require the direct involvement of libraries as well as some successful activities carried out by certain libraries for this purpose. The paper, after exploring the situation of academic libraries in Sri Lanka, found that eight universities in Sri Lanka have included 'sustainable development' in their strategic plans and academic libraries integrate them in library resources, services and programmes. However, these libraries are lacking in mapping of their activities with SDGs. The study recommends that academic libraries should map SDGs to the libraries' programmes, services, and resources. his paper proposes teaching strategies and techniques for library instruction in academic libraries to achieve the intended goals. The recommendations are based on insights from previous research IN library instruction with the intention to identify possible strategies and techniques for different user groups. This study applied a systematic literature review method, using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) protocol to examine the use of teaching strategies and techniques in library instruction programs. The Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases were searched for relevant literature using specific keywords. Applying the inclusion criteria, a total of 27 articles out of the 1380 documents extracted, were deemed relevant to the study. The results show that library instruction is usually conducted in the form of individual sessions. Teaching strategies used by librarians include flipped classroom, faux flip, class room teaching, research clinic, consultation, asynchronous learning, and online synchronous learning, among others. These teaching strategies improved engagement and relationships between students and librarians, while impacting critical thinking, confidence and self-directed learning. It is concluded that librarians should consider adopting and combining teaching strategies based on individual needs and use technology to improve teaching effectiveness and increase student learning. This study shows that most studies on library instruction have only partially addressed instructional strategies. A critical review of the literature revealed that a strategic shift in the management of library instruction is necessary to achieve the intended outcomes. Der Beitrag diskutiert die beiden Verbundkataloge Argentiniens, UNIRED 30A und den Konkurrenzkatalog SIUBDU. Der UNIRED 30A integriert die Bibliotheksbestände von 109 Institutionen, darunter den wichtigsten Regierungsinstitutionen, Ministerialbibliotheken, Think-Tanks, Universitäten des Landes, Banken, Institutionen der lateinamerikanischen Wissenschaftsintegration wie FLACSO, CLACSO, INTAL und die Fundación Bariloche. Der SIUBDU integriert die Bestände von 56 Institutionen, darunter CLACSO und FLACSO und führende Universitäten des Landes aus allen Regionen. Um die Katalogentwicklung der in den beiden Bibliotheksverbunden integrierten wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken zu testen, analysierte der Autor die Präsenz der Gewinner*innen des Skytte-Preises der internationalen Politikwissenschaft für die Jahre 2021, 2022 und 2023 in diesen Verbundkatalogen. The paper introduces Argentina's union catalogues, UNIRED 30A and the rival catalogue SIUBDU. UNIRED 30A integrates the library collections of 109 institutions, including major government institutions, ministerial libraries, thinktanks, national universities, banks, Latin American science integration institutions such as FLACSO, CLACSO, INTAL and the Fundación Bariloche. The SIUBDU integrates the collections of 56 institutions, including CLACSO and FLACSO as well as leading universities in the country. To test the catalogue development of the academic libraries integrated in the two library networks, the author analysed the presence of the Skytte Prize laureates in political science in the years 2021, 2022 and 2023 in these union catalogues. Findings show that even for prestigious international political scientists, library presence in Latin America is extremely poor and refers chiefly to work written by them in Spanish or works translated into Spanish. Most libraries don't buy books based on a set of rules that reflect the research done at their affiliated institutions. A structured method for evaluating evolving research areas is a must have process in libraries, especially academic libraries. So, in this study, with the help of the digital humanities tool, the authors developed a book purchasing algorithm for an academic library that functions in accordance with the core research subjects and evolving research areas of that institution. To conduct this study, the researchers searched the SCOPUS database for articles published by the "University of Calicut" as of February 13, 2023, yielding 3305 publications. Voyant tools have been used to analyse the collected data. Significant changes in the area of research at the University of Calicut are observed from its beginning to its recent history (1967-2023). The analysis revealed a discrepancy between the primary subject areas of research and the book collection at the Calicut University library. The findings of this paper will aid librarians in their acquisition processes, and the institution will be able to support the research community. The introduction of assistive resources within academic libraries in the 20th century positively affected library users (patrons) since they eased information access challenges for patrons living with impairments. However, most academic libraries in developing countries are still grappling with challenges relating to ensuring adequate services to patrons with visual impairment. Given this problem, this paper seeks to provide a better overview and understanding of what provisioning of assistive resources entails. Such an understanding would aid decision-making in academic libraries on the specific resources that should be acquired for patrons with visual impairment. In addition, this paper also went on to conceptualise the term patrons with visual impairment, this is because there has been confusion within most academic libraries on the specific individuals that fall within this category. Due to the growing presence of artificial intelligence (AI) in developed countries, this paper looks at the adoption of artificial intelligence for effective library services in academic libraries in Nigeria. The paper describes the concept of artificial intelligence while tracing its origin. It further established the advantage of adopting artificial intelligence in academic libraries which include user-friendly, infinite functions, ability to take complex work among others; and the challenges faced by library management towards the adoption of artificial intelligence which include financial uncertainty, job loss, technological disadvantages among others. The paper concluded that the adoption of AI in academic libraries is setting a new level of efficient and effective library service delivery but the adoption in developing countries such as Nigeria is low due to some of the identified challenges. The paper recommended that government and library management must come together to proffer the way forward for academic libraries in terms of meeting up with the latest standard of the use of AI in libraries; Library staff should be exposed to training and retraining in the use of artificial intelligence in delivering of libraries' services; among others. ICT has greatly changed how research, teaching and learning is done. In the past, these activities were aided mainly by manual databases consisting of paper or print material records. However, over the period of time this has dramatically changed to digital electronic formats such as portable document format (PDF). The goal of this paper was to examine the use of online databases by Nuclear Scientists of Ghana Atomic Energy Commission and review the literature available. A systematic review of 20 articles from 1970 to 2021 was conducted. The review covered studies on both quantitative and qualitative research approaches both locally and abroad. The findings revealed that from the older literature, awareness of the existence of online databases by patrons in their institutions was low. However from the current literature the trend has changed with patrons now been much aware of these online databases. Some problems identified as hindering the access to online databases included low bandwidth speed, and cost of infrastructure which are stumbling blocks especially in developing countries of which Ghana is a part. Recommendations included the provision and expansion of infrastructure, training programmes, information literacy, subscription to current and relevant online databases, conducting regular surveys and funding and financing of electronic resources. It is essential libraries are supported to improve access and usage whiles creating awareness of the numerous benefits that can be gained by research and academic institutions in channelling their energies into having current, available electronic resources for their patrons for teaching, learning and research.. The paper discussed the employment of competitive intelligence for improving patronage of the 21st century academic libraries. It explored literature on; the concept of competitive intelligence, characteristics of the twenty first century academic library, attributes of competitive advantage in academic libraries and competitive intelligence activities in Nigerian academic libraries. It was discovered that funds and the necessary skill-sets were required for an academic library to develop to the point of having a competitive edge over other libraries. Also literature revealed that only few libraries especially private university libraries were already treading the path of gaining the competitive advantage for attracting increased patronage. The paper concluded that having competitive advantage is a function of better application of knowledge gained through competitive intelligence as a major factor for staying relevant and be able to attract the 21st century academic sophisticated library clientele. Also adequate provision of funds for innovation and upscale facilities and services is key to attracting patrons. Therefore, it was recommended that library and information science professionals should seek ways of generating funds apart from library subventions and be knowledgeable about their users, they should be sensitive to their environment as well as brace up to the changes taking place in their internal and external environments by acquiring relevant skill-sets and deploy both traditional, non-traditional (ICT) and creative/innovative methods to meet the highly specialized information needs of users thereby attracting more patrons while they strive to acquire some facilities that beautify and make the environment inviting and conducive. The paper is about Application of Technology Resources to Library Information Processing in Academic Libraries in Nigeria. The electronic age has made users search beyond print media while looking for information resources. Latest research work are sent across the world through electronic means and no serious researcher of this age ever depends solely on print media rather the use of internet, websites, e-mail etc are the language of the day. Functionally, university libraries of the current dispensation provide access to both print and electronic resources to serve users and to increase the visibility of their institutions, and as a measure of prestige. In other words, they must go beyond the border of print collection in information delivery. It must extend to computer resources and other non-print format. The paper concluded that technology resources is indispensable in the 21st century for global access to information materials. The paper is focused on the revolutionary changes in librarianship and the need for strategic planning for sustainable transformation of academic libraries. The narrative content analysis was adopted with extensive literature review. Explanations on basic concepts relating to the subject matter such as change, types of changes, strategic planning, and purpose of strategic planning, strategic planning process, and strategic management process were articulated. The paper further explores strategic planning in the context of librarianship; the rationalization for strategic planning in academic libraries; justification for effective adaptation to changes in academic libraries as well as identification of specific dimension of revolutionary changes in academic libraries; the key points for sustainable strategic planning were outlined.
