Many applications in information systems require a search for solution where there is no well-defined algorithm to find the solution. Genetic algorithms (GA) are a class of robust and efficient search methods based on the concept of evolution in natural organisms. They have been successfully applied to complex problems in diverse fields, including optimization (e.g., traveling salesperson problem), machine learning (e.g., rule induction), and studying evolution (e.g., simulation of biological adaptation).
