In the context of an ever growing interest upon environmental protection issue, the study comprises an analyze of the organization and the effectiveness of the public sanitation services both at a union and a national level, starting from the premises of the two dedicated principles: the priority of selective waste collection and the principle „Pay-as-you-throw“, a practical application of a more general „the polluter pays“ principle. Both of these are going to be analyzed from a double perspective: the EU Law (Directive 2008/98/EC) and EU recommendations, on one side, the national law (Law no. 51/2006 of community services of public utilities, GEO no. 92/2021 regarding the waste regime, Law no. 101/2006 of the public sanitation services, Framework Regulation of the public sanitation services etc.), on the other. As this study will show, EU and national law are abundant in regulations determining and detailing these two principles: thus, the theory seems to be clear. These principles are no longer that clear when it comes to their concrete application, due to the lack of detailed rules. The selective waste collection remains, in fact, a simple wish, mostly because the users of the public sanitation service have not received previous proper instruction in this regard, as there are no concrete rules related to how to classify a waste into one of the paper/plastic and metal/glass/biodegradable categories. But also „The polluter pays“ principle is rather an illusion than a reality; even though national laws force its implementation, there are plenty of hurdles in applying it: the inadequate use of the available instruments that determines the waste produced by each individual, or to the difficulties related to condominiums. The article focuses on the analysis of all of these acute issues, taking into account two factual examples -- waste management in the Metropolitan Area of Cluj and Bucharest, -- proposing solutions attempting to ease the implementation of these two key principles concerning public sanitation services. Honey peach (Prunus persica) is easy to rot after picking because of its special property, and the damage of traditional preservation method to the ecological environment is unacceptable. Therefore, chitosan as a kind of environmental protection material with excellent performance has attracted people's attention. Though chitosan has good practicability, its application in practical production is limited due to its poor water solubility. In this study, we prepared phenolic acid- g -chitosan using two synthesis methods of carbodiimide-mediated coupling reaction and free radical-mediated grafting procedure. After comparing the grafting rates of these conjugates, the results showed that using the synthetic method of carbodiimide-mediated coupling reaction through NHS and EDC as the coupling agent to graft phenolic acid onto chitosan had a good grafting ratio at a molar ratio of 1.5:1. Therefore, six phenolic acids were used for the first time to prepare conjugates through this method, and these conjugates were characterized by UV and NMR. It can significantly improve the water solubility and DPPH scavenging activity of chitosan, thus releasing its good properties and meeting the application of post-harvest preservation of honey peaches. The results indicate the antisepsis and fresh-keeping effects of six conjugates showed that preservative paper containing 2-Hydroxyphenylacetic acid- g -CS has the best effect of inhibited decay index and weight loss when peach fruits were stored at 20 ± 5 °C under 40%–60% humidity for 8 days. Thus, the water-soluble conjugate prepared by grafting phenolic acid onto chitosan can enhance the market application range of chitosan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Protected areas management is usually confronted with conflicting interests from various stakeholders and would, therefore, entail a search for a rational compromise. The Masungi Georeserve in Rizal Province, which is part of the 26,125.84 hectares that comprise the Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape (UMRBPL), captures the challenges inherent in environmental conflict resolution. This paper analyzes the situation in the Masungi Georeserve using a political ecological lens, particularly applying Michel Foucault’s theory of governmentality and James Scott’s theory of legibility. It is found that attempts of the State to enable governmentality and legibility have further contributed to the conflict. The main goal of the paper is to offer a framework for resolving the conflict that would serve the best interests of all stakeholders, even as it is also the best option for optimizing the ecological services provided by the Masungi Georeserve. The paper argues that the state’s legibility and governmentality projects have provided a less enabling landscape for environmental protection and offers Cullen’s theory of transitional governmentality as an alternative theoretical framework that could be used in imagining a solution. This paper explores the significance of ecosystem functions in maintaining the health and balance of ecological systems, particularly in the context of planning, managing, and maintaining trees in landscape settings. It emphasises the multifaceted relationship between humans and trees, encompassing cultural, ecological, economic, and emotional connections, and underscores the value of traditional ecological knowledge alongside empirical science. By combining these two ways of knowing, along with social science insights into human health and well-being, future landscapes can be crafted to be sustainable, diverse, and functional. As urbanisation continues to shape landscapes globally, urban planners face the challenge of managing rapidly changing environments. Urban forestry and arboriculture have emerged to address these challenges, aiming to enhance environmental quality and human well-being. The concept of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) has gained traction, recognising the importance of integrating natural systems into urban planning to address environmental challenges while preserving functional ecosystems. This paper advocates for an enhanced understanding of tree and human ecology to navigate the complex relations between trees, people, and their environments. It calls for interdisciplinary collaboration, research, and education to inform policy, assess environmental impacts, and widen approaches to ecosystem management. By monitoring ecosystem health and collaborating across disciplines, arboriculturists and urban foresters can shape resilient practices for tree conservation and sustainable urban development. In conclusion, integrating tree ecology into urban planning and management practices is essential for ensuring the health, resilience, and sustainability of tree populations and the ecosystems they inhabit. Global climate change due to increasing CO2 emissions threatens the development and survival of many countries, especially those on the coast. Intentional government spending by sectors can lower CO2 emissions to help these countries in sustainable development. Meanwhile, governance has some importance in enabling governments to achieve their economic development goals. Does governance affect the public spending - CO2 emissions nexus in developing economies? The paper seeks answers by employing the system GMM Arellano-Bond estimators to assess the impact of public spending, governance/institutional quality, and their interaction on CO2 emissions for a sample of 109 developing economies between 2002 and 2021. The results seem counter-intuitive that public spending reduces and governance increases CO2 emissions, while their interaction lowers them. Furthermore, private investment and economic growth promote CO2 emissions, while trade openness decreases them. The green place-based policy is crucial for balancing economic competitiveness and environmental protection. However, there is scarce literature examining its impact on environmental pollution and the underlying mechanisms at the micro level. This paper treats China's National Demonstration Eco-Industrial Parks (EIP) as a quasi-natural experiment and systematically evaluates its effect on pollution using a difference-in-differences (DID) approach. With data from Chinese industrial firms and counties, this research reveals that the EIP leads to a significant reduction of 54.36% in firms' sulfur dioxide (SO 2) emissions. Moreover, increasing R&D investment, reducing SO 2 emission intensity, implementing production process pollution control, and dynamic adjustments of firm entry and exit are significant influencing mechanisms. Heterogeneity tests indicate a stronger SO 2 reduction effect of the EIP program on firms in eastern regions, capital-intensive industries, and non-state-owned enterprises. This study suggests that the Chinese government should support the establishment of EIP, conduct a coordinate system, strategically plan the industrial chain, establish a pollution monitoring and early warning system, enhance information disclosure, and give greater emphasis to the construction of EIPs in central and western China. This research paper explores the potential of storytelling as a means to revive environmental literacy and empathy, particularly targeting children aged 4-12. The paper draws on ecocentric theories and existing research to argue that children's literature, with its simple language, subtle plots, and sentient settings, can serve as a powerful tool for developing environmental intimacy and subsequently literacy. The study emphasizes the need to create and nurture an instinctual kinship with nature in children, with the ultimate goal of fostering a sense of responsibility and citizenship for environmental protection. The pilot study, conducted in schools in Kerala with a student beneficiary count of 500, provides preliminary insights into the effectiveness of incorporating storytelling into environmental education. In the context of significant environmental changes, the urgency of adopting green innovation has become increasingly apparent as a central mechanism for adjusting industrial structures in China. This transition serves not only as a crucial way to address pressing environmental challenges, but also as a fundamental strategy to improve the ecological efficiency of urban areas. Existing research mainly keeps a close eye on the unidirectional relationship between variables such as technological innovation and environmental protection. There is less relevant literature that has researched the cointegration relationship among green innovation, industrial structure, and eco-efficiency of cities. The essential role of green innovation and industrial structure in reaching a higher eco-efficiency of city are discussed in this research and the relationship among these three variables are analyzed by the evidence from cities in China from 2011 to 2019. The fact that the variables are cointegrated in the long run is evidenced by the results for the full sample. The sub-sample results report that in the eastern region, green innovation, industrial structure upgrading, and industrial structure rationalization could improve urban eco-efficiency. However, in Midwest regions where economic development is relatively backward, green innovation's effect on urban eco-efficiency is not in a significant positive way. The results obtained in this paper have implications for different cities in China to formulate corresponding policies on green innovation, industrial structure, and urban eco-efficiency. Realizing environmental protection and employment stability when facing strict environmental regulations is an essential issue of concern for many developing countries, including China. Based on a dataset of Chinese listed companies and a dataset of Chinese individual labor-force surveys, this paper uses an estimation technique pairing propensity score matching with a difference-in-differences estimator to examine the impact of the new Environmental Protection Law (EPL) on the supply and demand of labor at the micro level and the reallocation effect of interindustry labor at the macro level. The results show that the new EPL generated employment losses at the micro level. The policy reduces firms' labor demand by lowering firms' output and total investment expenditures and, in the process, does not stimulate firms' innovative behavior. Moreover, implementing the new EPL reduces the wage income of workers, which in turn reduces the labor supply. Conversely, at the macro level, the new EPL promotes the transfer of labor from polluting to cleaner industries, realizes the reallocation of labor between industries, and thus promotes the transformation and upgrading of regional industrial structure. In today's world, as ecological challenges continue to rise, the importance of environmental monitoring and conservation cannot be overstated. These efforts play a vital role in countering the adverse impacts of human activities on our planet. The development of predictive models that can accurately predict the results of different conservation measures is essential for the success of these conservation efforts. This paper's objective is to create a Machine Learning (ML) model that predicts how environmental changes can unfold. This prediction helps in proactive monitoring and conservation planning, considering factors like deforestation, air pollution, sea level rise, temperature shifts, and forest preservation. The model relies on machine learning techniques, including AdaBoost, ETS, Prophet, SARIMA, LightGBM, and TL-BLSTM models, to analyze data, uncover trends, and inform decision-making. By offering a thorough assessment of the effects of conservation approaches, this model aids in shaping well-informed decisions regarding the distribution of resources. As a result, this process strengthens initiatives designed to protect biodiversity and the Earth's natural resources. Predicting changes in environmental variables is the main goal of this research, which will improve effective environmental management. Latin America is highly vulnerable to climate change. From a justice-centred approach, its communities have been using human and constitutional rights as a strategy to combat environmental degradation and protect ecosystems in climate litigation. Thus, the paper analyses the ecological dimension of human rights arising from the Latin American climate litigation by selecting disputes that link human rights and the protection of a specific ecosystem, which enables catching both the right to a healthy environment and the rights of nature. As for the results, the national courts interpret human rights from the notion of a socio-ecological system, emphasising a rights-duties approach based on social justice. The territory becomes a non-static space, there is a long-term temporal scale of rights, and the lawsuits elaborate on the interests of future generations. The rights of nature acknowledge a more-than-human world and argue that nature's legal titularity complements human rights, and both agendas meet at the intersection with the safe climate system. Although climate change appears as a secondary concern, applicants use the climate crisis as a crosscutting element aimed at ecosystems' protection and its impact on human rights. In conclusion, these disputes are ecological legal experiences that extensively redefine human rights law from the meeting between the system of rights and the cultural context of groups historically excluded from the spaces of power. Human rights receive a new axiological content reoriented from the realities of peripheral territories and previously invisible ecological backgrounds through the dynamic interaction with plural subjects that become drivers of transformations. This paper examines four conceptions of 'ecocide' that relate to descriptions of environmental harm, criminalisation of these harms and inclusion of ecocentric considerations. It then positions advocacy pertaining to ecocide laws in the context of a political economy that both creates and fails to respond to the problems and consequences of ecocide. As part of this, the paper briefly reviews key challenges to the protection of the environment and human rights, as well as the importance of social transformation in furthering social and ecological justice. In today's era, science and technology have undergone tremendous development, and the research on big data technology has become more and more mature. Many areas of human life have begun to apply big data technology, and big data technology has indeed brought more convenience to human life. With innovation, human life has also become better because of the development of big data. With the increase of people's awareness of environmental protection and sustainable development, more and more scholars have begun to pay attention to the research of multi-channel closed-loop supply chain. The return products caused by reverse logistics greatly affect the supply chain inventory system and the butterfly effect of the supply chain. This paper uses the Agent technology in big data to construct a multi-channel closed-loop supply chain decision model, and applies the Agent technology to the research of multi-channel closed-loop supply chain inventory and butterfly effect. This paper analyzes the functional agents included in each structural agent in the closed-loop supply chain, designs the simulation process, and designs the final data collection and analysis. Through the analysis of the simulation results, find out the influence of the reverse logistics recycling and return links and the changes in inventory control parameters on the butterfly effect of the members of the closed-loop supply chain at all levels, and provide guidance for the members of the closed-loop supply chain to formulate reasonable and effective inventory control strategies Sexual opinions. This contextualised paper deals with environmental protection to enhance socio-economic development in SIDS with particular reference to the small Republic of Mauritius. With the relevant legal and regulatory framework it investigates environmental protection in SIDS with particular attention drawn to the small Republic of Mauritius and its huge Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Indian Ocean, and its blue economy would generate trillion of dollars provided the EEZ is not over-exploited otherwise mankind would pay it in a very costly way. The Republic of Mauritius is also a very interesting case study because the Mauritius and its legal system inherited both French Civil Law (1715-1810) and English Common Law (1810-1968) during its two successive colonisation with a written Constitution 1968 which has no provision on the right to protection of the environment and the Mauritian legislator has neither reacted promptly to implement same in the Constitution 1968 compared to other Small Island Developing States (Maldives, Seychelles) albeit there is a plethora of legislations and regulations to protect the environment in a country where there is room for improvement in various key sectors for its socio-economic development and to protect the island against nature's wrath, droughts, food and water insecurity. However, with the exploitation of petrol and oil for exploitation, activists and human rights fighters found that there might be an impact both in its green and blue economy provoking nature's wrath with tsun amis, volcanoes or cyclones which are becoming more frequent in the Indian Ocean. Climate change and the resulting extreme weather events bring significant economic losses and many unstable factors. It is an important means to actively seek environmental protection and climate governance countermeasures to meet severe challenges. As an environmental protection tool widely used by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), environmental taxes are expected to play an important role in combating climate change and reducing extreme weather events. Based on public goods theory, collective cooperation theory, externality theory and double dividend theory of environmental taxes, this paper takes 36 OECD countries as research samples and empirically tests the role of environmental taxes in mitigating climate change process and reducing extreme weather events through the establishment of panel Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model. The empirical results show that the environmental taxes on the whole is conducive to reducing the frequency of abnormal temperature weather and plays a positive role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions in OECD countries. Further research shows that environmental budget and environmental technologies play a positive role in the process of environmental taxes to delay climate change and reduce extreme weather events. In other words, we should attach importance to the investment of environmental protection funds and the research and development of environmental protection technology while carrying out environmental taxes. The robustness test shows that the main regression results of this paper have strong robustness. The research in this paper enriches theories and existing literature related to environmental taxes and climate change, and provides new research ideas and policy guidance for delaying the process of climate change and responding to extreme weather events. Purpose: This study explores the feasibility and implications of a degrowth strategy for Pakistan's socio-economic and environmental dynamics. In today's era, where human well-being and environmental conservation are paramount, Pakistan's susceptibility to environmental and social perils necessitates a radical shift in strategy. This paper highlights the role of a degrowth framework as a persistent, systemic, long-term expansion driver; and aimed to assess the impact of degrowth on social, environmental, and economic indicators in the context of Pakistan. Design/Methodology/Approach: To discern the implications of degrowth for Pakistan, this study incorporates variables spanning social, economic, ecological, and environmental dimensions, underpinning the hypothesis of a degrowth scenario. The primary data sources for these variables include the World Bank database (2022) and the International Energy Agency (IEA, 2022). Specific data on marine acidification was sourced from the Ocean Health Index (2022), while data on deforestation and ecological footprints were gathered from Global Forest Watch (2022) and the Global Footprints Network (2022), respectively. This investigation focuses on data spanning from the year 2000 to 2022. The Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model was used to estimate the outcomes for all three scenarios. Findings: the study considered three distinct categories: the Business As Usual (BAU) scenario, Decent Work and Economic Growth (aligned with SDG 8), and Degrowth. The results revealed a significant positive impact of degrowth on Pakistan's social, environmental, and overall well-being. While the degrowth strategy indicates a gradual yet positive economic trajectory in the long term, the other two frameworks might boost growth rates but adversely affect social, ecological, and individual well-being. Given its potential benefits, the degrowth plan emerges as a reliable approach for Pakistan. Implications/Originality/Value: From a policy perspective, The government could integrate emerging degrowth policies into current frameworks, which would not only target achieving degrowth but also help mitigate environmental degradation while maintaining socio-economic stability. A comprehensive approach to sustainable economic development involves implementing differentiated taxation strategies that prioritize labor-intensive, low-energy services, simultaneously ensuring effective taxation for companies at the point of sale. Additionally, embedding environmental standards within international trade agreements is essential to mitigate environmental degradation globally. Carbon dioxide (CO 2) emissions and climate change risk have become constraints on global economic sustainable development. Environmental regulation (ER) is a key method for achieving synergy in CO 2 and pollution reduction in China. This paper is the first study to explore the effects of ER on CO 2 emissions by exploiting the National Environmental Protection 11th Five-Year Plan (NEP11-FYP). The implementation of the NEP11-FYP significantly decreases CO 2 emissions by 19.73% in key environmental cities relative to other cities. Heterogeneity analyses suggest that this negative impact is larger in western cities and cities with more pressure to reduce CO 2 emissions. Scale effects, structural effects, and technical effects might be three potential influencing channels through which ER contributes to the CO 2 reduction effect. In addition, the results of the spatial externality of the NEP11-FYP demonstrate a positive spillover effect in neighboring cities within a distance of 300 km and a negative spillover effect in cities more than 500 km away. This paper analyses the interrelation between technological innovation (TI) and air quality (AQ) using the bootstrap rolling-window subsample Granger test for China. We find that TI has a twofold impact on AQ. On the one hand, TI brings better AQ. This result proves the technique effect, indicating that TI can improve AQ by directly reducing air pollutants emissions and facilitating clean energy use. On the other hand, TI can make AQ worse when TI mainly focuses on utilising fossil fuels to expand production, which proves the scale effect. In turn, AQ can also influence TI ; the direction of the influence is dependent on the severity of air pollution and the government's response. One of the challenges in the transition to a low-carbon economy is how to improve the energy and environmental performance of migrants. China has experienced rapid urbanization and a surge in domestic migration in recent years. People migrate within China are an indispensable integral part of sustainable development. Do migrants engage in environmental affairs to the same extent as the locals? Extant literatures have paid insufficient attention to this topic. This paper contributes to the understanding of differences in environmental participation among urban residents who hold varying types of household registration (namely, hukou) identity. Drawing on large-scale survey datasets and the technique of matching, the study finds that: (1) the environmental engagement of migrants is less active than those owning hukou , (2) migrants' duration of residence, household income, and the level of barriers to obtaining local hukou moderate the above relationship, and (3) the lack of social trust and sense of belonging that comes with the absence of hukou identity are channels constraining migrants' environmental involvement. This article contends that further reform of the hukou system might be necessary to incentivize migrants to take a more proactive role in environmental matters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Market segmentation led by "beggar-thy-neighbor" and "local protectionism" among local governments is the deep institutional reason of environmental pollution. Therefore, eliminating market barriers and accelerating regional market integration are important way to achieve green development. This paper develops a theoretical model for analyzing the relationship between market integration and air quality by introducing inter-regional trade cost and game behavior. Based on the panel data of 101 prefecture-level and above cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt of China, we verify the effect and its mechanism of market integration on air quality. The results show that regional market integration is conducive to improving urban air quality, which is still supported by the robustness test. In terms of regional differences, market integration has a greater effect on air quality in the downstream than in the upstream and midstream. Market integration improves air quality by strengthening scale effect, accelerating industrial structure upgrading and promoting technological progress. Moreover, Environmental regulation and environmental performance assessment facilitates strengthening the air quality improvement effect of market integration. We suggest that China should continually promote market integration in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, strengthen environmental regulation, and establish a reasonable performance evaluation system, so as to build a green development linkage mechanism between environmental protection and economic growth. In the context of China's carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals (the "dual carbon" goals), balancing economic development, environmental protection, and low carbon is a high priority. Therefore, exploring the impact of digital finance on carbon dioxide (CO 2) emissions is crucial. In this paper, we select the panel data of 241 cities in China from 2011 to 2020 and use the double logarithm model after verifying model forms to explore the impact of digital finance on urban CO 2 emissions. The results show a significant negative correlation between the level of digital finance and the intensity of CO 2 emissions. Heterogeneity analysis results show that the eastern region exhibits the greatest inhibitory effect, while the western region exhibits the lowest. The three sub-dimensions of digital finance can all reduce carbon emissions, but the usage depth dimension has the greatest reduction effect, while the coverage breadth dimension is slightly lower. Through mediating effect tests from two dimensions, we find that digital finance can achieve CO 2 emission reduction by promoting scientific and technological innovation. Environmental information disclosure (EID) is a critical element of corporate disclosure that can demonstrate companies' dedication to environmental protection to stakeholders who are concerned about the environment. Using green patent data of Chinese listed companies, this paper tests the influence of EID on green innovation (GI) and the regulating role of digital transformation. Results show that EID has a positive impact on GI and that the relationship is significantly influenced by corporate digital transformation. Additionally, the moderating effect of digital transformation is more significant with high information opacity, financing dependence, and social attention. This study contributes to the literature on the perspective of firm-level voluntary information disclosure and proposes a more comprehensive logical analysis framework for the effect of EID on GI. Moreover, digital transformation can assist companies in identifying and disclosing environmental information more accurately, which increases the effectiveness of EID. The aim of this paper is to show the concise chemico-physical adsorbent performance of water purification systems utilizing geo- (e.g., allophane, clinoptilolite, and smectite) and bio-polymer materials (e.g., chitosan or cellulose nanocomposite materials) and to propose an optimal ground-water remediation technique. The performance of geo-materials is evaluated based on the individual sorption and immobilization capacities for various priority substances and pollutants (e.g., lead, zinc, cadmium, copper, arsenic, and others), their availability, and cost-efficient use. A systematic assessment of the sorption potential of geo-materials in comparison to other available sorbents used for the removal of harmful aqueous metal ions is made through a literature review. This paper introduces novel sustainable technologies based on natural and tailored silicate-polymerized substances (geo-materials and geopolymers), and highlights their applicability in the treatment of water and solid matter contaminated by heavy metal ions. The advantages of geo-materials and geopolymers over other commercially available sorbents used for heavy metal ion removal from solution are presented through a literature review. Benefits and current challenges of geo-materials and geopolymers applications in water processing technologies and in environmental remediation are discussed, with recognition of their performance, individual sorption and immobilization capacities, availability, and cost-efficient use. The applications described here comprise: (i) the removal of heavy metal ions from contaminated water using in-situ remediation strategies; (ii) heavy metal ion immobilization through co-precipitation with silicate binders in underground stabilization and waste solidification scenarios; and (iii) a proposal for a new geo-material/geopolymer-based solidification and stabilization technology for efficient, sustainable, and simultaneous treatment of soil/sediment and groundwater at environmental hotspots. Clay-substituted geopolymers, smectite, and zeolites are distinguished by their superb sorption and immobilization capacities for heavy metal ions, while biosorbents can play an important role in the removal of metals, metalloids (e.g., arsenic), and other contaminants. More research on individual removal mechanisms of heavy metals will provide new clues on the development of remediation strategies in advanced scientific and field applications, and on atomic-to-micron scale processes occurring at the solid–liquid interface. Marine debris substantially threatens the world's marine ecosystems, national economies, and human well-being, particularly those living in the coastal areas. Among the types of marine debris, abandoned, lost, and discarded fishing gears (ALDFGs) are the most challenging, contributing substantially to marine pollution. The Sulu-Sulawesi Seas, a region rich in biodiversity but heavily impacted by fishing activities and ALDFGs, is the focus of this study. In proposing trilateral cooperation between the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia, this paper suggests an eco-regional approach to mitigate its effects. An eco-regional approach looks to balancing ecology and societal needs, integrating environmental conservation and biodiversity with human requirements. Measuring the level of green development is far from being a well-assessed problem, due to both the broad meaning of green development and the presence of randomness in environmental changes. In this paper, we develop the sustainable development evaluation index system from different perspectives, including resource utilization, green development management, green development quality, environmental protection, growth quality and green lifestyle. This evaluation index system is further viewed as a cybernetic system. Following a rough set approach, we properly address the issue of uncertainty and develop a robust estimation methodology. Neighborhood rough set and rough set methods based on genetic algorithms (GAs) have been used to identify the key indicators within the system. First, the results illustrate how a cybernetic approach deals with green policy and economic growth. Second, such a cybernetic approach provides new insights into identifying the main attributes for a sustainable development. Nowadays, internet public participation has become a powerful tool to supervise the pollution activities of the enterprises. However, fewer studies have focused on the effect of internet public participation on environmental protection. Thus, this paper use network platform data (Sina Weibo and Baidu) from 2013 to 2018 to test whether internet public participation can help control environmental pollution emissions. Firstly, this paper selects the number of micro-blogs with the Chinese keywords "environmental protection", "haze", "water pollution", "air pollution" and their Baidu index to describe the level of internet public participation. Secondly, the effect of the internet public participation on four environmental pollutants including industrial sulfur dioxide, industrial soot, industrial wastewater and industrial solid waste are explored using the mediating effect model. In addition, we have examined the government's intermediary effect on environmental pollutants emission. The study found that the internet public participation can significantly (p ≤ 0.05) reduce the discharge of the industrial waste water. In addition, the mediating effect of government is significant (p ≤ 0.05) on pollutant emissions. Urban environmental risk assessment is an inevitable requirement for sustainable urban development. Scholars from all over the world have conducted a lot of exploration on urban environmental risk assessment, but at present, there are few studies on the quantitative assessment of urban environmental risk at the level of economic belts using artificial intelligence technology. In this paper, numerical analysis and programming methods are used to carry out a quantitative assessment of urban environmental risks in the A economic zone of central China, and an urban environmental assessment method based on a comprehensive environmental risk index is proposed. The research results show that the entropy method can be used to reveal the spatial pattern of urban environmental risks, and it is used to construct the urban environmental risk assessment index system of the A economic zone. Artificial intelligence computing technology is used to construct a comprehensive index distribution of environmental risks in the A economic zone. The environmental risks present a spatial pattern of contiguous distribution, and there is a certain spatial autocorrelation. There is a positive spatial autocorrelation between risk source hazard and receptor sensitivity in a economic zone. That is to say, there are high-value or low-value agglomeration of risk sources and receptor sensitivity in this area, rather than a divergent distribution pattern. The vegetation coverage rate is consistent with the economic development level of the three regions, that is, the higher the economic development level, the vegetation coverage rate is relatively low. In addition, the comprehensive index of urban environmental risk in economic zone A has a certain relationship with the distribution of risk hot spots. The western region is a high-risk agglomeration area, and the environmental risks in the region are relatively high. This urban agglomeration is also the region with the highest economic level in the study area. The west is a low-risk agglomeration area, the level of environmental risk in the region is low, and the economic level of this region is relatively low. On the whole, there is a strong correlation between environmental risks and the level of economic development. Previous research has paid little attention to the multiple meanings of the concept of forest restoration. To gain a more comprehensive view of forest restoration, this paper compares the US forest restoration debate of the 1940s and 1990s, in the disciplines of ecology and forestry. The paper focuses on historical approaches to pasts and futures, and on "sociotechnical imaginaries" providing societal legitimacy to restoration ventures. Historical scientific papers constitute the paper's empirical sources. The analysis shows that, among ecologists and foresters, forest restoration of the 1940s was oriented towards efficiency and challenges such as wood demands during World War II, whereas restoration of the 1990s was oriented towards conservation and environmental challenges. The approaches of the 1940s′ ecologists and foresters seem motivated by a sociotechnical imaginary connecting forest restoration to societal progress , whereas the approaches of their 1990s′ counterparts seem motivated by a sociotechnical imaginary connecting forest restoration to the task of mitigating society's impacts. Drawing from Peck and Tickell's (2002) theory of roll-back and roll-out neoliberalism and Brenner et al.'s (2010) theory of variegated neoliberalism, this paper uses comparative historical analysis to understand how the state of Wisconsin suppressed its legacy of progressive environmentalism and embraced neoliberal policy over time. Specifically, this paper examines the rapid expansion of concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) in Wisconsin's dairy industry since 1995. As these large CAFOs have grown in size, so have the social and environmental problems related to their use, including pollution of drinking water sources for rural communities. Based on analysis of newspaper articles between 1965-2010, I observed that that a turning point towards neoliberalism occurred with the demise of the Office of the Public Intervenor (OPI), a legally designated adversarial force unique to the state that was created in 1967 after a powerful coalition of environmental social movements defeated an attempt to merge the offices of development and environmental protection. Despite the continuous efforts of industry, the effort to weaken environmental regulations and institutions in Wisconsin failed not only in 1967, but in 1984 as well. However, by 1995, immediately after the passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement, the state switched their support from populist environmental social movements to industry. Through deregulation, elimination of the OPI, and the gradual dissolution of environmental social movements, the state of Wisconsin created the conditions that enabled CAFOs to expand without the "burden" of environmental regulation. Subsequently, through re-regulation, Wisconsinites lost access to legal remedies that could curb polluting practices of large CAFOs. In today's world of environmental protection, there is a growing concern for environmental protection, and artists are no exception. Painting artists have discovered a variety of natural materials in different forms to be used in the creation of paintings, which can not only effectively reduce the pollution of the environment from the creation of art activities, but also use the characteristics of environmentally friendly materials to produce more excellent works of art. This paper introduces the environmental protection in painting. This paper introduces the environmental protection materials in painting art and the definition and selection of environmental protection materials. The linguistic characteristics of natural eco-friendly painting materials are studied, including the use of cotton, hemp, paper, silk, and wool painting materials and the styles expressed in the artworks are analyzed and explored. Through the utilization and artistic re-creation of environmental protection painting materials such as waste environmental protection painting materials and readymade materials, the research is summarized and combined with the interpretation of the application of environmental protection materials in the artist's works to explore the process of using environmental protection painting materials in the creation of painting art, the method of use and the display effect. This paper demonstrates the feasibility of the application of environmentally friendly materials in painting art based on the effects of the materials and texture of painting art. According to the analysis of environmental protection painting materials in art creation, it is concluded that painting art works will definitely appear in the public's view in a more environmental protection form, and more artists will use environmental protection materials for painting art creation in the future. Solid waste has caused several health and environmental issues in most regions of the world, including Nigeria. The objective of this study is to assess the status of solid waste management practices in Sapele, Delta State, Nigeria using standard methods after administering 300 questionnaires through personal contact with heads of household. According to the findings, 93.3% of respondents are economically active between the ages of 31 and 60, meaning they have the purchasing power to consume and so generate garbage. Organic waste/food waste had the highest percentage of 96.7% followed by plastic (90%), paper waste (80%), textile and glass waste (76.7%), and metal waste (50%) and other waste (16.7%). The use of waste baskets (56.7%) appears to be the principal means through which respondents collects their household waste followed by plastic bags (53.3%), drums (36.7%) while (6.7%) use cartons in Okpe Road. 40% of respondents dispose wastes in open dump, 26.7% use Delta State Environmental Protection Agency (DSEPA), 20% use open burning/incineration, 13.3% indicated the absence of waste management agency in the study area. About 43.3% of respondents said the condition of the environment in Sapele has been a little better in the last five years, 13.3% said it has gotten much better, 23.3% said it has stayed the same, and 10% said waste disposal is a little worse and much worse. Sapele people require health education, a consistent supply of garbage collection facilities, and authorized final disposal locations. Energy microfinance is a promising asset for ensuring access to finance and electricity for the poor and women living in rural areas. Targeting vulnerable categories, renewable energy microfinance tools aim to promote sustainability and resilience policies to foster sustainable energy and ecological transitions. This research note explores the role of energy microfinance policies in facilitating virtuous loops for empowering the vulnerable, enhancing entrepreneurship, fighting poverty, and promoting social inclusion and environmental protection - as prescribed by the sustainable development mandate. Examining the microfinance-renewable energy-vulnerable nexus, the paper proposes a conceptual contribution and fungible development policy recommendations, sketching the main drivers of this linkage. To this end, a critical review of existing publications and successful world experiences is proposed. The analysis finds out a relevant potential for energy microfinance, whereby renewable energy expansion can be a strong player in shaping fresh microfinance strategies and prospects, providing ecological, social, economic and governance benefits and new research, policy, and practical agenda. Pollution and globalization are current challenges for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), especially in the context of negative effects of globalization on environment. The aim of this paper is to assess the impact of globalization index on CO2 emissions in the CEE countries that joined the EU in the period 2005-2021. The results based on a panel data approach with DOLS/FMOLS estimators confirm the hypothesis that globalization enhances pollution in this region, but a non-linear relationship was validated between CO2 emissions and globalization index. After reaching a maximum level, the CO2 emissions begin to decrease, while globalization enhances. On the other hand, economic freedom and electricity prices in household consumers had a positive impact on pollution. Renewable energy consumption has the capacity to reduce pollution, while higher electricity prices for non-household users discourage economic activities, which contribute to environmental protection. The circular economy is transformative, systemic and functional. Projections show that shifting from a linear approach of "take, make and dispose" to a circular system is estimated to have USD 4.5 trillion potential for economic growth by 2030. Major drivers for transitioning to a circular economy are environmental (climate change, 73%), institutional (global agendas, 52%) and socio-economic (changing economic conditions, 51%). Additionally, the circular transition is driven by job creation (47%), private sector initiatives (46%), new business models (43%), technical developments (43%) and research and development (R&D) (41%) (OECDE Survey, 2022). Mining is one of the technology processes which significantly affect the environment. Contemporary science is often focused on renewable resources, but non renewable resources and their mining are also present and deserve more intense research, due to its complex role in the economy. On the other point of view, non renewable resources as mining products are necessary to maintain and improve the life quality level. This conflict is not sustainable in long term perspective. From the aspect of sustainable development the primary task is to ensure the development right for future generations. It means that intensive level of interdisciplinary research is necessary to provide initial conditions (available reserve of ore) and utilization dynamic of mineral resources. This paper analyzes some aspects of correlation between sustainable development and mining. Education is considered to be one of the key tools for addressing sustainable environmental conservation while balancing sustainable socio-economic development to achieve Gross National Happiness in Bhutan. The Environmental Science subject was introduced to prepare students with knowledge, values, and skills to address sustainability. This study aimed to investigate the alignment of Environmental Science textbooks, examinations, and the Environmental Science Curriculum Framework with each other and with Education for Sustainable Development. Four environmental textbooks, five examination sample papers, and the curriculum framework were used for the document analysis. The method involved the analysis of selected chapters from the four textbooks for classes IX to XII, followed by an analysis of the examination sample papers and finally skimming the content in all four textbooks. The textbooks and examinations were well aligned in knowledge focus, and the values related to utilization were more evident than the values on conservation. The textbooks were also well aligned with the principles and strands of the curriculum framework. However, the textbooks and assessments lacked information on students’ community participation and the action-oriented content required to develop students’ action competence in solving environmental problems, which is the tenet of Education for Sustainable Development. Sustainability challenges persist in the central Indian Himalayas (CIH) despite an array of solutions proffered by external experts. This paper interrogates the 'sustainability gaze' of external experts – which reflects attempts to reconcile neoliberal economic growth with environmental conservation within the logics of technical and biophysical rationalities - by exploring local experiences of rapid and uncertain social and environmental change. Three strands of policy and practice shape the gaze: (i) natural hazard mitigation for climate change adaptation; (ii) reducing social vulnerability through pro-poor development; and (iii) increasing resilience through environmental management and conservation. Results challenge narratives that overpopulation causes environmental degradation and changing patterns of migration are a natural process of modernisation in the CIH. Alternative local narratives highlight haphazard and inequitable economic growth, lack of mountain planning and disaster management, inadequate social welfare programmes, and monkey relocation policies as the major sustainability challenges. The paper discusses how the gaze produces 'sustainable developmentality' - a depoliticising process that cultivates multiple and conflicting mountain subjectivities, namely: (i) active community members responsible for mitigating natural hazards, (ii) productive farmers and flexible waged labourers, and (iii) custodians of the environment. This creates a triple-bind for smallholders which has forced huge numbers to migrate from their mountain dwellings with unsustainable outcomes. Exploring local perspectives re-politicises the debate, exposing the contradictions and tensions of the gaze and the broader systemic issues of power and inequity the gaze overlooks. The manuscript presents the management of waste from marine vessels and cargo handling companies in a selected European Union port. The main objective of the paper is to analyse and evaluate the existing waste management model in the port of Szczecin in the context of circular economy. The expert research carried out is aimed, inter alia , at identifying which of the solutions currently in use need to be improved from an environmental perspective. These measures could serve as a basis for the development of green logistics chains for waste generated in connection with the organisation of shipping. What is of particular importance in this regard is the information flow, which preferably should be an integral part of an international IT system enabling tracking of waste streams from their place origin to final disposal. In light of the above, it is particularly important to look for solutions which will support the creation and adoption of models providing sufficient control over the entirety of green waste management activities, in line with the circular economy concept. For more than a century, wildlife conservation in the United States has been built on the notion that nonhuman animal populations are resources to be regulated by law and managed efficiently, according to the best available science and in the public trust. This approach, known as the North American Model of Wildlife Management, has come under increasing criticism for excluding diverse viewpoints that have the potential to advance both conservation and environmental justice goals. How might the greater inclusion of Indigenous worldviews and Indigenous Studies concepts, such as radical relationality and kincentricity , improve western wildlife management? In this paper, we review three case studies of tribal wildlife stewardship programs in the land currently known as California—the Maidu Summit Consortium's beaver restoration project, the Karuk Tribe's elk management program, and the Yurok Tribe's condor recovery effort—that illuminate generative connections among ecological restoration, Indigenous cultural practices, community wellbeing, and environmental justice. Wet areas have a large distribution area and their ecological levels vary greatly, so remote sensing can be effectively used to observe the ecological environment and evolution rules of wetlands. In this paper, taking R wetland in western China as an example, remote sensing technology was used to study the ecological status and evolution of the wet area, and ecological environment protection measures. The results showed that ecologically fragile wetland belts were developed in the study area, and the extent of wetlands showed punctate and banded distribution. The distribution of wetlands was uniform and the connectivity was good. The fractal dimension of area perimeter of other types of wetland patches was the largest, which was 1.71; followed by rivers (1.51) and lakes (1.48). The regions with good ecological environment conditions were scattered in the study area without obvious aggregation, and the north was slightly better than the south. Human activities are less in the western region, and the area of ecological environment improvement is obviously greater than the area of deterioration. The long-term human settlement activity in the northeast region may be an important reason for the area of ecological environment deterioration greater than the area of improvement. To protect the ecological function of water conservation in the study area, the spatial difference of wetland should be overcome. Specific protection measures should be adopted for different regional wetland layouts. The protection of ecological environment is a long-term process. Multi-source data should be used to monitor the changes of ecological environment in working areas in real time and gradually improve the quality of ecological environment in wetland areas.
