Abstract
The article discusses the need for high quality alternative teacher certification programs in the U.S. The policy paper "Effective Teachers, High Achievers: Investing in a Teaching Profession," by The Forum for Education and Democracy which is led by Stanford University education professor Linda Darling-Hammond, seeks government investment of billions of dollars annually for teacher quality improvements. Other suggestions in the paper such as extended student teaching are discussed.
