- Abstract
This article presents a listing, which is a sampling of the biographies available dealing with the lives of the presidents of the United States. Douglas Southall Freeman's "George Washington: A Biography," is thoroughly researched and well written. Page Smith's "John Adams," was the first major biography of Adams completed after the publication of the Adams Papers. Dumas Malone's "Jefferson and His Times," is one of the greatest contributions to American historical literature in the twentieth century. "James Madison: A Biography," by Robert Ketcham, is a well-written review of Madison's life. Oliver Chitwood's "John Tyler: Champion of the Old South," is a scholarly work on a complex personality, the first of the accidental presidents.
