Abstract

A biography of Timothy Dexter, a wealthy resident of Newburyport, Massachusetts given the mock title of Lord, is presented. It examines sources of his wealth, including his work in leather dressing, his speculation in Continental currency, or paper money issued by the U.S. Continental Congress, and his marriage to Elizabeth Lord, a wealthy widow. The author notes Dexter's ownership of land in Chester, New Hampshire and comments on what he calls Dexter's vanity, superstition, and ostentation.

Abstract

The article features Charles Yocom and Raymond Dasmann, authors of the book Pacific Coastal Wildlife Region. Yocom is a professor of Wildlife Management at Humboldt State University at Arcata, California. He has authored or co-authored books on wildlife, ecology and botany aside from writing scientific papers published in scientific journals. Dasmann, on the other hand, is a specialist in ecology and big game management. He also taught Wildlife Management at Humboldt State University. He also authored books on natural history.
