Abstract Short answer tests (SAT) are an assessment that examines nursing students' knowledge and can be used to evaluate expectations for student educational success. The purpose of this literature review is to combine the best available evidence as to whether short answer test papers meet nursing facility curricula learning outcomes. A literature review was performed consisting of data bases which included; ERIC, SCOPUS, CINAHL MEDLINE, COCHRANE LIBRARY and JOHANNA BIGGS INSTITUTE (JBI). The following keywords were used: Short answer test, written assessment, quiz, organisations, university, higher degree education, tertiary education, nursing, perceptions, attitude, opinions, thoughts, feeling and belief. The majority of studies demonstrated that short answer tests equip nursing students with the knowledge and critical thinking skills for the clinical setting. Three major themes were identified: the effects of increasing class sizes; authenticity and the validity of short answer tests. Short answer tests are commonly used in undergraduate nursing programs to evaluate students' level of knowledge which consists of their ability to critically analyse and problem solve. To maintain authenticity and validity of an assessment, there is a need for an evidence-based approach to their design to meet the core learning objectives within the curriculum. Pennsylvania Shoulder Score (PSS) is a patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) that is gaining use when examining shoulder-specific outcomes. To date, a systematic review of the PSS measurement properties has not been published. To systematically locate, appraise, and synthesize the evidence concerning the measurement properties of the PSS. Systematic literature review. A pair of raters conducted a literature search using pre-defined keywords from 5 databases (PubMed, CINAHL, SPORTdiscus, PsychINFO, Scopus) during the week of October 23, 2022. Critical appraisal of study design for psychometric articles was used to assess methodological quality and risk of bias. Measurement property data were synthesized with pooled estimates for the indices of test-retest reliability (ICC), standard error of measurement (SEM), minimal detectable change (MDC), Cronbach α (CA), effect size (ES), and standardized response means (SRM) calculated from applicable studies. A total of 13 articles met the inclusion criteria for this review. Methodological quality was agreed upon between the 2 raters with a weighted kappa of 0.77, and 9/13 of the articles were rated above 70%. Test-retest reliability of the PSS total score ranged between 0.90 and 0.94, and construct validity was high when compared to other shoulder-specific PROMs (0.75 < r > 0.96). Responsiveness of the PSS was large across all studies with few PSS subscales dropping to moderate. Pooled MDC90 of the total PSS was 12.13 points, and the pooled ES of the total PSS was 0.85. The scope of this review demonstrates positive measurement properties of the PSS as a reliable, valid, and responsive measurement of shoulder-specific PROM. However, there are few studies examining the measurement properties of the PSS and more research is needed to assess cross-cultural appropriateness and factor analysis of the questions contained in the PSS. • Shoulder-specific functional, pain, and satisfaction questions are part of the PSS. • This paper finds the PSS to be a reliable, valid, and responsive outcome measure. • This paper provides pooled outcomes across studies of the PSS. • The PSS lacks factor-analysis and has limited evidence on measurement properties. With the global population ageing, concerns about the incidence, prevalence and prevention of elder abuse have become increasingly pertinent. This study presents a narrative review of empirical research, investigating the elder abuse prevention implemented in public health policies in three selected countries. The narrative review aims to enrich academic critical discussion about the theme and provide insights for policymakers and professional practitioners working towards elder abuse prevention across different regions. Searches in the electronic database CINAHL, Medline, PsycINFO and Web of Science databases were performed to identify and synthesise studies reporting on research aimed at investigating elder abuse prevention. The studies that handle on all prevention levels, had to be published in a peer-reviewed journal, report on empirical research, and are available in full text in Portuguese, Slovak, English or Norwegian and published within a ten-year period (2012 to 2022) were included. A total of 981 studies were retrieved, of which 13 papers met the inclusion criteria for this narrative review. The evidence indicated that proactive approach within primordial and primary prevention, interdisciplinary cooperation within primary and secondary prevention, and education for healthcare professionals within all forms of prevention were implemented to various extent as elder abuse prevention in Brazil, Norway and Slovakia. There is a need to further enhance public awareness of elder abuse through campaigns and advocacy programs; additionally, the routine screening and assessments by healthcare providers for early detection and intervention in suspected abuse cases require improvement; and also, legal and health policy measures must be updated regularly. Background Soccer is unique among sports because it is the only sport that involves purposeful use of the head to control, pass, or shoot the ball. Over the previous five years, a relationship between lower extremity (LE) injury and sports related concussion (SRC) has been established in various sporting populations. Athletes at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels have demonstrated a greater risk for sustaining a LE injury post SRC. The purpose of this systematic review was to examine the relationship of the SRC with the incidence of LE injuries. Methods Ten databases were searched with the following keywords: Lower limb, ball heading, neuromuscular control, concussion, MEDLINE, Ovid MEDLINE(R) Daily, and Ovid MEDLINE(R), EMBASE, and Scopus. The search was limited to English-language and peer-reviewed publications, until 15/12/2022. The PEDro scale was used for the assessment of the risk of bias among the included studies. All included papers were qualitatively analyzed. Results A total of 834 studies were identified and 10 articles (four concussion-MSK biomechanics, six concussion-MSK injury) were included in the qualitative analyses. Included papers ranged from low to high quality. Due to the heterogeneous nature of the included study designs, quantitative meta-analysis was unable to be performed. All four of the included concussion-MSK biomechanics studies demonstrated, to some degree, that worse cognitive performance was associated with lower extremity MSK biomechanical patterns suggestive of greater risk for MSK injury. Among the six injury related studies, two investigations failed to determine group differences in cognitive performance between subsequently injured and non-injured athletes. Conclusion More research is needed to better understand the relationship of SRC and lower extremity injuries and the extent to which they are related to concussions and/or repetitive neurotrauma after ball heading sustained in soccer. Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) options are often utilised by people with communication disability (PWCD). A limited range of bilingual AAC systems are currently available, and uptake of these options is impacted by misconceptions among speech-language pathologists and PWCD, and clinician knowledge and skill gaps. To explore literature on AAC use in more than one language for bilingual PWCD. A systematic search of six databases and grey literature was conducted to identify research evidence on bilingualism, AAC, and PWCD. A descriptive synthesis was generated from charted data. A total of 16 articles met the eligibility criteria. This included four qualitative research studies, one participatory action research study, one quasi-experimental study, one case study, one case series, and eight expert opinion papers, primarily focused on the paediatric population and high-technology AAC. Linguistic, social, and ethical bases were identified for the development and use of bilingual AAC systems. Studies found bilingual AAC use was not detrimental to language development, promoted self-identity among users, and increased caregiver involvement in supporting AAC use. However, small sample sizes limit the generalisability of these findings, and considerable barriers exist to developing and implementing bilingual AAC. This review highlights the need for developing AAC that is accessible to PWCD in each of their languages. Further research is needed to co-produce efficient and culturally responsive bilingual AAC systems with PWCD and/or their caregivers and identify effective strategies for supporting implementation. Background: Given the potential for social media to spread health misinformation, it is important to understand how trusts impact adolescents' engagement with health content on social media. Objective: To explore the concept of trust when adolescents (13-18 years) engage with health information on social media. Five relevant databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, ERIC, and CINAHL) were systematically searched alongside Google Scholar and reference lists of included papers. Studies were included if they examined adolescents' trust when engaging with health information on social media. Study Appraisal and Synthesis Methods: Thematic analysis was used to synthesize the findings from this review. Results: Thirty-four papers were included. Three key domains were explored: trust in the social media platform/ service (general distrust of social media for health information; safety and privacy); trust in other users (mistrust of unknown users; fear of bullying or judgment; trust in friends or peers; celebrities and popularity; trust in others' experience and the importance of social support); trust in content (tone and appearance of health information; expertise and verification; advertising, pushed, and suggested content). Limitations: Narrow geographic representation of papers and limited quantitative studies. Conclusions and Implications of Key Findings: Adolescents' trust in health information on social media involves a complex interplay between trust in: social media platforms, other users, and health content. BACKGROUND: Reach Out and Read (ROR) is an evidence-based literacy promotion intervention that leverages the near-universal access to children of primary care practices to promote optimal child development. While several studies document ROR's effectiveness, its implementation remains understudied. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review examines the existing literature to better understand ROR implementation. DATA SOURCES: PubMed, ERIC, Web of Science, Academic Search Premier, ProQuest Education Database, and CINAHL. STUDY SELECTION: We included peer-reviewed English-language papers focusing on ROR in an ambulatory setting in North America. DATA EXTRACTION: Extracted variables were informed by the Template for Intervention Description and Replication checklist and included publication year, title, author(s), clinic location, study design, study aim, ROR implementation, modifications, implementation assessment, barriers, facilitators, and outcomes. RESULTS: Seventy-one papers were included, of which 43 were research articles. We identified substantial variation in ROR implementation including differences in components delivered. A considerable number of research articles did not assess ROR implementation. The most common barriers to ROR implementation were at the system level (ie, financing and inadequate time). Modifications and enhancements to ROR are emerging; most address barriers at the clinician and family level. LIMITATIONS: This review was limited to published English language papers focusing on ROR. CONCLUSIONS: ROR implementation varies across studies, and many did not assess implementation. Consistent reporting and assessment of ROR implementation could create opportunities to better understand the mechanisms underlying ROR's effects and inform other early childhood interventions that seek to promote optimal development at the population level. Introduction: Informal carers provide vital support for patients, reducing strain on health and social care services. However, caring can detrimentally affect carers' health and wellbeing, thus policy advocates for improved carer support. Objective: to establish the published international evidence base regarding interventions for carers delivered by occupational therapists. Method: English language studies published January 2010–January 2021 were identified against predetermined inclusion/exclusion criteria via searches of MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsychINFO, OTSeeker, Scopus, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library. Supplemental strategies: database alerts, hand-searching, searching of included papers' reference lists and citations, and contacting key authors. Two reviewers completed critical appraisal and produced a textual narrative synthesis of data using a convergent integrated method. Results: 38 papers were included, reporting 21 interventions. Most were dyadic, home-based interventions for carers of people living with dementia. Common intervention components included: assessment and goal-setting, skill training, education, coping strategies, equipment provision, environmental adaptation and signposting. Interventions improved outcomes for carers, however, intervention design and evaluation require careful consideration to maximise carer benefits and capture intervention effects. Conclusion: Occupational therapist delivered carer interventions enhance support and improve carer outcomes. Intervention and evaluation designs should include careful selection of outcome measures, avoidance of increased carer burden in dyadic interventions and acknowledgement of known barriers and facilitators to both carer and therapist intervention engagement. Purpose: In this paper we analyzed the complex issue of mental illness in older persons living in rural areas using the Strength and Vulnerability Integration (SAVI) model as a conceptual framework to bring balance to negative accounts of older persons' emotional experiences. Method: A narrative review was conducted to examine the mental health issues of older persons living in rural areas. Three databases were searched for data pertaining to rural mental health and the SAVI model. Theoretical and empirical articles that analyzed the strengths and vulnerabilities in relation to mental illness in older persons living in rural areas were included and analyzed. Additionally, policy and position papers were used to interrogate this issue. Findings: Analysis revealed three themes: individual vulnerabilities, system vulnerabilities and strengths. Rural individuals' struggles with chronic stress, a loss of social belonging, and neurological dysregulation across their lifespans were discussed in how they developed strengths in ageing and overcame vulnerabilities. Barriers to accessing mental health services, caregiving respite care, and health promotional services in rural areas included system vulnerabilities that exacerbated the rates of mental illness and poor health outcomes in older persons. Strengths included the rural social connection and community engagement that fostered a sense of community. Conclusions: Research and practice recommendations situated within the SAVI model include the importance of acknowledging individual differences viewing the strengths of ageing, cultural perceptions of time and leveraging community-based strengths to overcome vulnerabilities of ageing in rural areas. These changes will facilitate nurses and other health care providers assess, respond to, and prevent mental illness and poor health outcomes in the diverse ageing population living in rural areas. It is an updated systematic review with meta-analysis that compared supervised exercise therapy (SET) vs non-supervised exercise therapy (NSET) programs for patients with distal radius fracture. The purpose of this systematic review is to appraise the current literature to determine if SET program is more effective than a NSET program for pain relief, improvement of range of movement, function and grip strength, both in the short or medium term for patients following distal radius fractures. Systematic review. The following electronic databases were searched: Medline/Pubmed, PEDro, Cinahl, Embase, CENTRAL, and Lilacs. PICOT strategy was used for trial selection. The searches were conducted on August 22, 2021, and May 26, 2022. Two researchers performed an independent search for papers from the references of the chosen trials. Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) was used for assessing the quality of evidence. The search strategy identified 2786 potentially eligible studies and 15 studies met our inclusion criteria. The results did not show that the SET program was more effective than the NSET program for all outcomes, in both terms for patients after distal radius fractures. GRADE showed that all analyses presented very low-quality evidence. Even the results showing there was no difference between the two programs analyzed, the available evidence for randomized controlled trials was insufficient to support these results. • The trials selected have very low methodological quality. • It was not possible to conclude that there is no difference between the programs. • Future clinical trials are needed to conclude the effectiveness of the programs. • The non-supervised programs used very different methods. • Instructions, videos, booklets and advice were used as methods. Introduction: High-quality randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of interventions are essential for determining whether an intervention is effective. However, many RCTs that examine the effectiveness of occupational therapy interventions for adults with mental health conditions or dementia have methodological limitations that reduce confidence in their results. We aimed to systematically review the quality of methods and outcome measures used in RCTs of occupational therapy interventions for adults with a mental health condition or dementia. This will inform future research in this area and enable practitioners to appraise the evidence when selecting interventions. Method: We searched peer-reviewed English language publications from 2000 to 2021 in MEDLINE, PsycINFO, ASSIA, CINAHL and e-thos, and hand-searched 12 journals. We included papers that met pre-specified inclusion criteria, appraised quality using a validated tool and extracted data. We conducted a narrative synthesis. Results: Of thirty-three included papers, 26 reported full or pilot RCTs, two reported secondary analysis or secondary outcomes of included RCTs, three reported process evaluations and two reported economic evaluations. Methodological limitations were found in many studies and outcome measures varied in their psychometric quality. Conclusion: High-quality RCTs of occupational therapy interventions are needed for adults with mental health conditions and dementia. Researchers should follow international guidelines for rigorously developing and evaluating interventions and reporting studies. Purpose To provide an overview of trauma-informed care, including the neurobiology of trauma, interventions to reduce retraumatizing patients who have experienced trauma, and implications of trauma-informed care in medical imaging and radiation therapy. Methods A comprehensive search of electronic databases related to the purpose of this project resulted in the collection of 12 peer-reviewed journal articles. Two conference papers, 1 behavioral science textbook, 1 trauma neurobiology textbook, 1 professional conference presentation, and 1 governmental report also were reviewed to complement the journal articles. A thematic analysis was performed to identify commonalities among the selected sources. Results Four themes identified in the literature included definitions of trauma-informed care, neurobiology of trauma, pillars of trauma-informed care for intervention, and implications in medical imaging and radiation therapy. Discussion A trauma-informed health care professional realizes the prevalence of trauma, recognizes the signs and symptoms of trauma, responds by integrating knowledge about trauma into practice, and actively resists retraumatizing the patient (ie, avoids creating an environment that inadvertently reminds patients of their traumatic experiences and causes them to experience emotional and biological stress). The pillars of trauma-informed care include safety, trustworthiness or transparency, peer support, collaboration, empowerment, and responsiveness or cultural considerations. Delivery of health care often involves assessment and interventions in locations on the patient's body where trauma has previously occurred, increasing the probability of retraumatization and manifestation of signs and symptoms of trauma. Radiologic technologists and radiation therapists should be trauma-informed when they are interacting with and caring for patients to reduce retraumatization. A hypothetical case study also is presented to show how radiologic technologists can use the pillars of trauma-informed care in the clinic. Conclusion Because many aspects of care, including routine care in medical imaging and radiation therapy, can be an unintentional reminder of a traumatic experience, health care professionals should be trauma-informed when they are interacting with and caring for patients. Purpose: Since technology-based interventions can facilitate convenient access to healthcare for women with breast cancer, it is crucial to understand innovative approaches to maintaining the effectiveness of these interventions. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review of technology-based self-management interventions for women with breast cancer in six countries. We analyzed the characteristics of these interventions and examined their diverse health outcomes. Methods: Six databases were systematically searched to extract research articles using the keywords "breast cancer," "technology," and "self-management." The search was carried out up until June 12, 2023. From the 1,288 studies retrieved from the database search, 10 eligible papers were identified based on inclusion/exclusion criteria. Two authors independently extracted and compared the data from these articles, resolving any discrepancies through discussion. Results Most of the 10 studies utilized web- or mobile-based technology, and one used artificial intelligence-based technology. Among the 12 health-related outcome variables, quality of life and symptom distress were the most frequently mentioned, appearing in six articles. Furthermore, an analysis of the intervention programs revealed a variety of common constructs and the involvement of managers in the self-management intervention. Conclusion: Incorporating key components such as self-management planning, diary keeping, and communication support in technology-based interventions could significantly improve the self-management process for breast cancer survivors. The practical application of technology has the potential to empower women diagnosed with breast cancer and improve their overall quality of life, by providing timely and sustainable interventions, and by leveraging available resources and tools. Background: Positron emission tomography (PET) scan is a valuable imaging modality widely used in the management of cancers. Its usage is well defined for most head and neck malignancies. However, there is a lack of consensus regarding the utility of PET scan for sinonasal malignancies. This is highlighted by the latest international consensus statement on endoscopic skull base surgery. Objective: This systematic review aims to clarify the role of PET scan in the management of sinonasal malignancies. Methods: We conducted a comprehensive literature search using PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Cochrane databases for research studies of interest. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) updated statement was used to guide the review. Results: In total, 1807 articles were assessed for eligibility. Thirty-nine original papers, published between 2004 and 2021, met inclusion criteria. Seven articles focused on the role of PET scan for inverted papilloma, 23 for sinonasal carcinoma, 4 for melanoma, and 3 for lymphoma, and finally, 3 articles focused on the use of specific PET scan tracers for sinonasal malignancies. Qualitative summaries for each potential role of PET scans were provided. In general, included studies were retrospective in nature with low level of evidence. Conclusions: In general, and across all types of sinonasal malignancies, PET scan yielded positive results regarding detection and initial staging. It was also considered as the modality of choice for detection of distant metastases, except in the case of sinonasal lymphoma. PET scan's main limit resides in its inability to detect lesions in or close to the metabolic activity of the brain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Dementia is a progressive syndrome that interferes with the individual's ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL). Cognitive stimulation (CS) is a non-pharmacological approach aimed to mitigate the impact of dementia symptoms. While CS has been shown to provide benefits for cognition and quality of life, the evidence supporting its use in improving ADL outcomes is reduced. The aim of this review was to chart what is known from the literature about the use of CS in improving ADL outcomes. Method: A scoping review of the use of CS in improving ADL outcomes for individuals with mild-to-moderate dementia was conducted, following a scoping review methodological framework. Eight databases were searched, including all articles published up until June 2022. Findings: A three-step search strategy yielded 788 results. Following screening and review, 36 papers met the inclusion criteria for this review. Studies were charted and discussed in the areas of (1) cognitive stimulation therapy; (2) group CS programmes; (3) multi-component CS interventions; (4) individual CS programmes and (5) other types of CS. Conclusion: The review identified a range of CS programmes from across 13 countries worldwide. Multi-component CS interventions involving ADL-focused activities reported the most benefits for ADL outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Substance use is common in patients with cancer. Caring for patients with co-occurring cancer and substance use disorder (SUD) is complex. The detrimental effects of stigma on people with SUD are far-reaching; impacting on the quality of care and inter-personal relationships, reducing quality of life. Despite this, most healthcare professionals (HCP) know little about how to avoid stigmatizing interactions with patients. The purpose of this integrative literature review was to summarize what is known about substance use by patients with cancer and present the consequences of SUD stigma for oncology patients. In addition, to highlight approaches to reduce HCP stigma. This literature review was designed using the PRISMA guidelines for integrative reviews. Google Scholar, PubMed and CINAHL Ultimate were used to search for related key terms. Inclusion criteria were; published after 2013, written in English, full text available. The initial search was augmented by crosschecking the references section of relevant articles. Eligible papers were then subjected to the Cochrane risk-of-bias assessment. Ninety unique papers were read in full and summarized into the research themes. Prevalence estimates of substance use in patients with cancer range from 2% to 35%, varying by cancer site, type of substance, patient demographics and metrics of substance use. Patients with co-occurring cancer and SUDs have multiple clinical factors that can complicate clinical care including 'chemical coping', delayed diagnosis, compromised treatment adherence, decreased immune function and interaction between illicit substances and cancer drugs. Stigma related to SUD can result in exclusion and marginalization of these individuals. It can lead to social isolation, inequitable access to healthcare and sub-optimal treatment, resulting in poor health outcomes and reduced quality of life. Various educational approaches are recommended to reduce SUD stigma in HCP, but changing HCP language would seem the simplest and most impactful. Perhaps the most powerful tool Radiation Therapists can use to reduce SUD stigma is the choice of language when communicating with patients and other HCPs. Learning from our professional experiences when talking with patients about sexual health, or sexual and gender diversity, the first step to a meaningful conversation is ensuring the patient feels comfortable disclosing their lived experiences and need for support. If we fail to eliminate SUD stigma in our own clinical interactions, then we will be unable to improve wellness in this vulnerable population and promote healthy behaviours in the patients we care for. Scoping Review Question: How do adults experience hospital to home transitions in rural settings? Background: Adequate preparation for transition from hospital to home can ensure continuity of patient care and is important in rural communities, which lack equitable access to healthcare services and professionals. After hospital discharge, rural patients feel unprepared, and have more emergency visits and hospital readmissions than urban patients. Methods: The scoping framework designed by Arksey & O'Malley (2005) guides the methods. Eligible papers were published peer-reviewed reports in English of data collected in a rural setting that examined experiences of adults during transition from hospital to home. The search included MeSH and keywords and was adapted to fit different databases. Screening of titles and abstracts was followed by full text screening and data extraction. Results: A total of 1448 papers were accessed, 701 titles and abstracts screened, 68 screened at full text, with 28 meeting inclusion criteria. The two main reasons for exclusion were that the topic was not transition from hospital to home, and the setting was unidentified or not rural. Findings: There was a broad range of geographic distribution, care settings, recipient groups, research designs, and transition experiences. Four main factors influenced transitions: communication; continuity of care; variations in patients, healthcare professionals, and/or services; and attention to the rural context. Some individuals with hemiplegia show a postural disorder called pusher behavior. Various underlying theoretical mechanisms have been proposed, thus leading to various treatment approaches. The aim of this scoping review is to identify and analyze the available evidence on the treatment approaches for pusher behavior. Two independent reviewers conducted a literature search for original studies reporting on treatments for pusher behavior. Studies were searched in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL and PEDro from their inception to December 2020. Treatment approaches were grouped in homogeneous areas based on the supposed underlying mechanism. To assess the reporting of the interventions, the Template for Intervention Description and Replication (TIDieR) was used. Thirty-one papers describing 45 interventions were included in the review. Most of the studies were case reports (i.e. including 1 person) (n = 16), followed by randomized controlled trials (n = 5), single subject design trials (n = 5), non-randomized controlled trials (n = 3), and case series (i.e. including more than 1 person) (n = 2). Treatment approaches were grouped into five categories: visual feedback, somatosensory cues, visual-somatosensory integration, brain stimulation, and other nonspecific treatments. The median number of TIDIeR items reported was 7 (range 4 to 10). Pusher behavior is still little-known. Five main categories of treatment approaches based on the alleged etiological underlying mechanisms have been identified. Introduction: People with complex physical disabilities unable to change their position independently are at risk of developing postural deformities and secondary complications. 24-hour posture management is needed to protect body structure. With inconsistencies in current service provision, this research aimed to scope the evidence for a 24-hour posture management approach. Method: A scoping review was conducted using four health and social science databases. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied; further papers were included through citation chaining. Results: The evidence for 24-hour posture management was often low quality due to the complications of completing robust research studies in this complex specialty. However, many professionals in the field agree that a 24-hour approach to postural care is essential. Conclusion: There is a need for clear national policy and guidance relating to postural care and scope for development of dedicated posture management services. Current NHS service provision is variable and inconsistent. Lack of postural care is a safeguarding and human rights issue. Specialist training and research in postural care within the Occupational Therapy profession is required to raise awareness of the role Occupational Therapists can play in preventing postural deformities and other secondary complications through providing good postural care. BACKGROUND: The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) promotes and supports breastfeeding for low-income women and children. A prior review reported negative associations of WIC with breastfeeding outcomes. WIC food package changes in 2009 increased breastfeeding support. OBJECTIVE: The objectives of this systematic review were to 1) evaluate evidence on WIC participation and breastfeeding outcomes and 2) evaluate breastfeeding outcomes of WIC participants before versus after the 2009 food package. DATA SOURCES: PubMed, Embase®, CINAHL, ERIC, SCOPUS, PsycINFO, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials for papers published January 2009 to April 2022. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Included studies compared breastfeeding outcomes (initiation, duration, exclusivity, early introduction of solid foods) of WIC participants with WIC-eligible nonparticipants, or among WIC participants before versus after the 2009 package change. STUDY APPRAISAL METHODS: Two independent reviewers evaluated each study and assessed risk of bias using EHPHP assessment. RESULTS: From 13 observational studies we found: 1) moderate strength of evidence (SOE) of no difference in initiation associated with WIC participation; 2) insufficient evidence regarding WIC participation and breastfeeding duration or exclusivity; 3) low SOE that the 2009 food package change is associated with greater breastfeeding exclusivity; 4) low SOE that WIC breastfeeding support services are positively associated with initiation and duration. LIMITATIONS: Only observational studies, with substantial risk of bias and heterogeneity in outcomes and exposures. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS OF KEY FINDINGS: WIC participation is not associated with a difference in breastfeeding initiation compared to WIC-eligible nonparticipants, but the 2009 food package change may have improved breastfeeding exclusivity among WIC participants and receipt of breastfeeding support services may have improved breastfeeding initiation and duration. Background: General practitioners (GPs) have a key role in palliative care provision for patients with advanced cancer. Continuity is valued by patients with such needs but is limited within current primary care systems. Exploration of the facilitators of and barriers to continuity in this complex context is required. Aim: To identify facilitators of and barriers to continuity with GPs in primary palliative care among people with advanced cancer and/or their close persons. Design: Mixed-methods systematic review with content and thematic analyses. Data sources: Keyword searches were carried out in five databases (Ovid MEDLINE(R), Ovid EMBASE(R), CINAHL, Web of Science, and Cochrane), policy documents and grey literature search engines in December 2020. Evidence was reviewed using relevant quality appraisal tools; data were extracted and tabulated. Findings were reported in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement, and the review was prospectively registered on PROSPERO. Results: Seventeen studies were included. Six studies originated from the UK; six from Europe; three from Canada; and two from Australia. Two studies were mixed-methods, four presented quantitative data, and 11 papers reported on qualitative studies. Four themes were developed: (1) the role of GPs in facilitating continuity; (2) the role of patients and/or close persons in facilitating continuity; (3) changing needs throughout the disease trajectory; and (4) the organisational context in primary care. Conclusions: Facilitators of and barriers to continuity in primary palliative care are outlined. Further research is required to explore how patients and/or their close persons experience continuity in primary palliative care. Purpose: To fully conceptualize familiarity, delineating it from other rural concepts and understanding its role in rural life. Background: Rural nurse researchers identify familiarity as a concept found in rural life. Familiarity is a term used in rural literature, nursing research, and theory but lacks comprehensive conceptual understanding. To advance rural nursing science, concepts need updating to support rural research and advance theory development. Method: A scoping review of the literature was completed using the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and supported by the seminal work of Arksey and O'Malley (2005). Using Walker and Avant's (2019) eight-step method, the scoping review findings informed this familiarity concept analysis. Findings: The familiarity analysis revealed three defining attributes, 'repeated exposure', 'knowledge', and 'deep understanding'. Antecedents which proceed familiarity include: (i) varied contexts; (ii) lack of anonymity; (iii) novelty. Consequences which result from familiarity are: (i) trust; (ii) vulnerability; (iii) over-familiarity; and (iv) physiologic reactions. Model and alternate cases developed are presented along with identified empirical referents. Conclusion: This paper presents findings supporting familiarity as a concept in rural life and form a conceptual foundation for future research and further exploration. The findings also provide the components needed when defining familiarity in rural research. Introduction: The term 'occupational profile' is widely used within the occupational therapy profession; however, its use and application appear inconsistent in the literature. Understanding how occupational profile is described in existing literature can reduce ambiguity and strengthen consistent use of terminology across practice and research. Methods: A scoping review was conducted to examine how occupational profile has been described in occupational therapy and occupational science literature. Results: Seventy-six journal papers were included. A lack of consistent definitions, conceptualisation and measurements was identified. Key concepts relating to the conceptualisation of occupational profile included occupational history, motivation and performance. Only one measurement was used consistently with paediatric clients to identify individuals' occupational profiles. Occupational profiles of populations and communities were not identified. Conclusion: The lack of consistency in definitions, conceptualisation and measurement of the term 'occupational profile' presents significant issues for occupational therapy practice, including an inability to compare populations. Researchers should articulate their conceptualisation of occupational profile in the absence of a universally agreed-upon definition. More comprehensive measures seeking to explore the occupational profile of a variety of clients need to be developed. To understand the effectiveness of interventions to increase retention of early career nurses, implemented during the pre-registration programme. Retention of nurses is an issue of global concern. The transition period spanning the final year of pre-registration nurse education programmes and the first year of qualified practice is a point of high risk for attrition from the profession. A systematic review without meta-analysis and a thematic synthesis of wider literature, reported using SWiM and ENTREQ guidelines. A convergent segregated approach was used to capture qualitative and quantitative study designs. A systematic review of quantitative papers reporting intervention and retention data and scoping review of a wider body of literature related to interventions supporting transition to qualified practice were conducted. Searches used Medline and CINAHL databases in October 2021. Data extracted from wider literature were inductively collated into themes relating to the intervention type and synthesised. Six papers were included in the systematic review and 27 papers were included in the scoping review. Interventions included internships, externships, clinical immersion programmes, capstone projects, preceptorships and psychological wellbeing programmes. There was a lack of consensus about the benefits of implementing interventions during the final year of pre-registration programmes, but some evidence that interventions incorporating preceptors, expose students to the clinical environment and involve academic/clinical collaboration, report positive outcomes related to transition to qualified practice, which potentially has an impact on motivation to stay in the profession. Greater understanding of interventions supporting student nurses to reduce likelihood of leaving once qualified has been achieved. There is some evidence these interventions lead to increases in retention, but this is limited by the quality of the reporting and the scarcity of data. Consideration should be given to maximizing students' exposure to clinical practice and the benefits that interventions with alternative approaches such as psychological wellbeing programmes may bring. Background Meniscal pathologies are common knee injuries and arthroscopic surgery is the current accepted gold standard for treatment. However, there is evidence to support the use of the Mulligan Concept (MC) Mobilization with Movement (MWM) for meniscal pathologies including the 'Squeeze' technique, tibial internal rotation (IR), and tibial external rotation (ER). Hypothesis/Purpose The purpose of this systematic review was to critically appraise the literature to investigate the effectiveness of MC MWMs for meniscal lesions on patient reported pain, function, and multi-dimensional health status in patients with clinically diagnosed meniscal pathologies. Study Design Systematic Review Methods A literature search was completed across multiple databases using combinations of the words "knee, function, mobilization with movement, MWM, mulligan concept, MC, meniscal pathology, meniscal derangement, and meniscal tear." Studies written within the prior 10 years that examined MC MWM techniques to treat knee meniscal injury were included. Articles that met the inclusion criteria (used MC MWM 'Squeeze' technique, tibial IR, or tibial ER for treatment of clinically diagnosed meniscal pathologies; Patient reported outcome [PRO] measures had to be used in the assessment of knee pain or function) were analyzed for quality. Randomized control trials were analyzed using the PEDro scale and the Downs & Black (D&B) checklist, case series were analyzed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) checklist, and case reports were analyzed using the CARES checklist. Results Six articles met the inclusion criteria and were included in this review, two randomized controlled studies, two case series, and two case reports consisting of 72 subjects. All six papers included reports of improvements in pain and function that were either statistically significant or met the minimal clinically important difference (MCID). Five studies reported the Disablement in the Physically Active (DPA) scale that also demonstrated statistically significant differences or met the MCID. The MC MWM 'Squeeze' technique, tibial IR, or tibial ER demonstrated the ability to reduce pain, improve function, and improve patient perceived disability following treatment of a clinically diagnosed meniscal pathology. These studies demonstrated short term results lasting from one week to 21 weeks. Conclusion Treatment interventions incorporating MC MWM techniques demonstrated reduction of pain and improvement in function in the short term in patients with clinically diagnosed meniscal pathologies. Delphi survey techniques are a common consensus method used to collect feedback from an expert panel to inform practices, establish guidelines, and identify research priorities. Collecting respiratory therapists' (RT) expertise and experiences as part of consensus-building methodologies is one way to ensure that they align with RT practices and to better influence respiratory care practice. This narrative review aimed to report the RT representation in expert panels of Delphi studies focused on respiratory therapy practices and research priorities. The research question that guided this review is: to what extent are RTs included as expert participants among published Delphi studies relate to respiratory therapy and research topics? We conducted a structured search of the literature and identified 23 papers that reported Delphi studies related to respiratory care practices and 15 that reported on respiratory-related research priorities. Delphi studies that focused on reporting consensus on respiratory care practices included the following: (1) mechanical ventilation, (2) high-flow nasal cannula therapy, (3) COVID-19 respiratory management, (4) home oxygen therapy, (5) cardiopulmonary monitoring, and (6) disease-specific guidelines. Delphi studies that focused on establishing respiratory research priorities included the following: (1) theory and practice-orientated knowledge gaps, and (2) priority research topics for empirical investigation. The results of this review suggest that RTs were rarely included as expert participants and, when involved, were minimally represented (5% to 33%). Given RTs' diverse and relevant experience in respiratory care, incorporating their perspectives to inform future education, respiratory care practices, and research priorities would allow evidence to better align with knowledge gaps deemed important for the respiratory therapy profession. Training and development programs are increasingly delivered online with numerous studies reporting no differences in learning outcomes between online and traditional learning. However, there are no established standardized methods to evaluate the effectiveness of online learning. This review aims to map the state of research around health-related education to determine what elearning evaluation methods are being used, the strengths or deficiencies of these methods, and which are appropriate for measuring the effectiveness of online education. Databases searched were PubMed, ProQuest, Education Resources Information Centre, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Scopus, PsychInfo, and Medline. Studies were included if they were published between 2011 and 2021, reported health-related online education and included an evaluation component. Thirty studies were obtained from numerous countries with varied methodologies and designs. Participants ranged from undergraduate students to medical professionals. Evaluation methods included student participation, students' reaction to the training program, self-efficacy, knowledge assessment, long-term performance, and the Kirkpatrick Evaluation Framework. The review identified that course evaluations, such as measuring student satisfaction scores alone, are insufficient when used to quantify learning effectiveness for online education. This was particularly important as studies are reporting these single metrics as positive effects of training interventions without justification. Introduction: Self-management post-stroke is essential where healthcare systems are stretched and stroke prevalence remains high. Self-management is recommended in stroke guidelines however, the quality of guidelines can vary and the evidence underpinning recommendations is unclear. The objectives of this paper are to identify and appraise current stroke guidelines, synthesise self-management recommendations and assess the evidentiary basis of these recommendations. Method: Stroke guidelines were retrieved from a search of four databases and stroke association websites in July 2021. Four independent reviewers assessed their quality using the Appraisal of Guidelines Research and Evaluation 2nd Edition instrument. Self-management recommendations were extracted by hand, evaluated, synthesised and the evidence underpinning them appraised using the Canadian Stroke Best Practice Recommendations framework. Results: Eleven guidelines were included in this systematic review, all of excellent methodological quality overall. One hundred and sixty-one recommendations were extracted from these guidelines and grouped into ten principles of self-management. A quarter of the recommendations were underpinned by level A evidence, 32% level B and 43% level C. Conclusion: Although current stroke guidelines are of high methodological quality, there are considerable inconsistencies in self-management recommendations within and between these guidelines, with varying strengths of underpinning evidence. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the UK press featured headlines that heightened concerns around Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (DNACPR) orders, particularly the use of 'blanket' DNACPR orders applied to older people in care settings. The portrayal of DNACPR may impact professional and public understandings with implications for end-of-life care. To explore the portrayal of DNACPR orders in the general and academic press and consider implications for public and professional understandings and practice. Academic papers and articles published in the general press during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK were retrieved. Those pertaining to the use of DNACPR orders were analysed thematically. Analysis of 179 media articles and 11 professional commentaries identified mixed understandings of DNACPR as indicated within three themes: rationing of acute services, championing autonomy in DNACPR decisions, and communication and trust. The call to 'protect the NHS' marginalised palliative and social care services with DNACPR constructed as a rationing tool. This led to ethical challenges around autonomy, DNACPR decisions, communication and trust. Media coverage of DNACPR orders was contentious and raised questions around the value of life and quality of dying, particularly for vulnerable individuals. DNACPR orders were conflated with frailty, futility and rationing of acute services and the marginalisation of palliative care. Nevertheless, media outputs stimulated advocacy and support for human rights and autonomy. This scoping review aimed to explore the interprofessional curriculum content and teaching approaches specific to wound care education in baccalaureate health courses internationally. Interprofessional education is defined as occurring when future health practitioners learn with, from and about each other with the goal of improving health outcomes. The management of wounds is a global public health issue with the World Health Organization recognising wound care is best managed by an interprofessional team. The preparedness of health professional graduates to engage in interprofessional education is essential to design and deliver coordinated health services that are person-centred and improve health outcomes. There is a lack of evidence however about how to prepare baccalaureate students in an interprofessional context, specifically in wound care. A scoping review was conducted using the framework of Arksey and O'Malley and reported using the PRISMA checklist for scoping reviews. A comprehensive search of the literature was conducted in MEDLINE (via EBSCOhost), CINAHL PLUS (via EBSCOhost), Pubmed and Embase databases published between 2012 and October 2023. Reference lists of included studies were also searched. Studies which were peer reviewed, written in English with a focus on interprofessional education in wound care were included in the review. The process of reviewing titles and abstracts was conducted by two independent reviewers. Data were extracted, key characteristics mapped and a narrative analysis of findings was reported. Three studies were included in this review. All the reviewed papers reported collaborative learning activities between different health professional groups relating to wound care, although there was no consistent approach to what wound care content was delivered or how it was delivered. Only one study reported that the delivery of content was completed by staff from multiple professional groups. Evaluation of the included studies related to either the effectiveness of the interprofessional education or wound care rather than both concepts. Due to the limited number of studies included in this review, it was difficult to draw conclusions about the effectiveness of interprofessional approaches to wound care. It may be possible that interprofessional wound care is currently being undertaken but not formally evaluated. This itself is problematic. It is imperative to equip healthcare students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe, effective interprofessional care. Emergency departments (EDs) are often first to feel the intra-hospital effects of disasters. Compromised care standards during disasters eventuate from increased demands on health resources; the facilities, supplies, equipment and manpower imperative for a functioning healthcare facility. Emergency departments must understand the effect of disasters on their health resources. This paper examines the impact on resources within the ED as a result of a disaster and provides a review against the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction's Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 priorities. An integrative literature review design was utilised. Articles were extracted from databases and search engines. The Preferred Reporting Items of Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis Guidelines for systematic literature reviews were used. Seven papers met inclusion criteria. Disaster consumable stocking was used to mitigate disaster risk and improve resilience. Logistical challenges were exacerbated by poor building design. Ineffective human resource management, communications failure, insufficient ED space, diminished equipment and supplies and unreliable emergency power sources were described. Disaster planning and preparedness strategies can address health resource deficits, increasing ED resilience. The classic model of non-contact ACL injury includes environmental, anatomical, hormonal and biomechanical risk factors which directly impact either the amount of stress placed on the ligament or the relative capacity of ligament to withstand the forces placed on it. However, cognition also clearly plays a role in successful athletic performance, yet diminished cognitive function is rarely considered a risk factor for injury. Objective To examine the existing literature to determine the extent to which cognitive function (both cognitive ability and task cognitive load) influences non-contact lower extremity injury risk in male and female athletes with a broad variety of athletic expertise. Study Design Scoping Review Methods An electronic search was conducted of CINAHL, SPORTDiscus, Google Scholar, and MEDLINE using the PRISMA method. Search terms included Boolean combinations of "cognition", "concussion", "ImPACT", "cognitive deficit", "mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI)", and "neuropsychological function" as cognitive descriptors and the terms "injury risk" and "lower extremity injury" as injury descriptors. Inclusion criteria included papers written in English published between 2000-2021. Exclusion criteria included neurological and cognitively atypical populations, except for concussion (included). Included articles were appraised using the Quality Assessment Tool for Observational Cohort and Cross-Sectional Studies. Results Fifty-six studies utilizing across the spectrum of levels of evidence met inclusion criteria. Forty-one articles had good, fourteen had fair, and one had poor methodological quality. Studies examined baseline cognitive function in healthy athletes (n=7); performance during dual-task paradigms (n=13); and the impact of concussion on dual-task performance (n=4), LE injury risk (n=22), or post-concussion testing (n=10). Six articles examining cognitive function and all dual-task studies (including concussion studies) found altered biomechanics associated with injury or increased processing demands. Studies related to concussion and injury incidence consistently found an increased risk of LE injury following concussion. Half of the studies that examined concussion and post-concussion cognitive testing demonstrated significant effects. Discussion Consistent across participant demographics, tasks, and dependent measures, fifty-one of fifty-six assessed articles concluded that decreased cognitive ability or increased cognitive load led to risky LE mechanics or a direct increase in non-contact LE injury risk. Conclusion The robustness of results across gender, performance level, sport, cognitive ability, task cognitive load suggest that the inclusion of cognitive training in the design of optimal LE injury prevention programs warrants further study. Clinicians responding to disasters are at risk of experiencing psychosocial problems that can negatively impact them during, upon their return and years after the deployment. Clinicians often respond to disasters as members of organised Disaster Medical Assistance Teams (DMATs). The aim of this paper was to review and synthesise the literature regarding psychosocial problems and support provided to medical personnel in the preparedness, response, and recovery phases of a disaster. A comprehensive search for literature was conducted using four databases: EMBASE; CINAHL; MEDLINE; and PsychInfo. Medical Subject Heading and key terms used in the search included: Disasters; First Responder; Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT); Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Psychosocial problems were identified amongst DMAT members in all phases (preparedness, response and recovery) of disaster assistance. These ranged from pre-existing stress and anxiety to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Psychosocial support was mostly reported in the recovery phase of the disaster deployment. A range of strategies exist to support psychosocial problems DMAT members experience, however, these tend to focus on the recovery phase of deployment with limited focus on preparedness and response phases. Further research is required to identify, implement, and evaluate short and long term psychosocial support needs and strategies for DMAT members in all phases of a disaster deployment. To understand the current practices in stroke evaluation, the main clinical decision support system and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies need to be understood to assist the therapist in obtaining better insights about impairments and level of activity and participation in persons with stroke during rehabilitation. This scoping review maps the use of AI for the functional evaluation of persons with stroke; the context involves any setting of rehabilitation. Data were extracted from CENTRAL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, LILACS, CINAHL, PEDRO Web of Science, IEEE Xplore, AAAI Publications, ACM Digital Library, MathSciNet, and arXiv up to January 2021. The data obtained from the literature review were summarized in a single dataset in which each reference paper was considered as an instance, and the study characteristics were considered as attributes. The attributes used for the multiple correspondence analysis were publication year, study type, sample size, age, stroke phase, stroke type, functional status, AI type, and AI function. Forty-four studies were included. The analysis showed that spasticity analysis based on ML techniques was used for the cases of stroke with moderate functional status. The techniques of deep learning and pressure sensors were used for gait analysis. Machine learning techniques and algorithms were used for upper limb and reaching analyses. The inertial measurement unit technique was applied in studies where the functional status was between mild and severe. The fuzzy logic technique was used for activity classifiers. Background: Data from sex offender treatment programmes (SOTP) on the re-offending of convicted sex offenders from the prison service in England and Wales was recently reviewed and found to be associated with no change in sexual reoffending. While this result is at variance with a number of other reviews it does give rise to concern as most programmes for individuals with intellectual disabilities adopt similar treatment methods. It is therefore important to consider the treatment outcomes for this client group by conducting a meta-analysis to examine treatment effects. Method: A systematic search of PsychINFO, EMBASE, MEDLINE and CINAHL was conducted in February 2019 using specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. Eighteen papers were identified, and their quality was assessed using a risk of bias framework. Scores on cognitive distortions, sexual knowledge and victim empathy measures as well as reports of further sexually abusive behaviour were pooled together to run a meta-analysis which yielded effect sizes for each outcome. Results: A large treatment effect was found for reducing cognitive distortions and increasing victim empathy, with a moderate effect found for improvements in sexual knowledge. This meta-analysis also found that 11.5% of individuals with intellectual disabilities who have completed these programmes will go on to display further sexually abusive behaviours. Conclusions: The findings suggest that cognitive distortions are significantly reduced following treatment, there are also significant improvements in sexual knowledge and victim empathy. A rate of 11.5% for further reported sexually abusive behaviour during follow up periods was found, which is higher than the rate found for mainstream SOTP completers. Introduction: Practice education is fundamental to pre-registration learning for many health and social care professions, yet finding sufficient opportunities for students is challenging. One-to-one student–educator pairings are common, and while different models could increase placement opportunities, the associated terminology is inconsistent and an overview of advantages, challenges and available evidence is missing. This mapping review identifies, categorises and critically considers the evidence for different models of practice education used by health and social care professions. Method: Papers from 2008 onwards reporting on practice education approaches in allied health or social care profession courses were identified in three databases. Data was extracted, methodological quality categorised and a typology of practice education models developed. Findings: Fifty-three papers were reviewed and developed into a typology of 14 models. Mapping indicated issues with a lack of high-quality research and limitations in available outcome indicators. Pre-requisites for the effective operation of different models include preparation, communication and allowing sufficient time for new ways of working. Conclusions: Practice education discourse is characterised by varied terminology and practices. Various models for structuring practice education exist, though the evidence for their effectiveness and impact on capacity is limited. This scoping review aimed to review extant literature in order to describe the readers and writers of allied health reports, determine the accessibility of allied health reports, and identify barriers and facilitators influencing the accessibility of allied health reports. We searched five scientific databases using relevant search terms relating to the accessibility of allied health reports. Nineteen peer-reviewed papers representing five allied health disciplines and six countries were included. In these papers there was little demographic diversity represented in the readers. People with disability, including communication disability, were rarely PEERincluded. The small body of research that exists has suggested that few allied health reports are written at a level that supports information accessibility. There is not enough research to determine the outcomes of strategies, the barriers, or the facilitators to improving accessibility. Introduction: Evidence suggests group walking in natural environments is more beneficial to the general population's mental health than walking indoors, in urban environments, and alone. Such 'green walking groups' have been suggested as an occupational therapy intervention that could be suitable for adults with mental health problems. However, there have been no reviews of the mental health outcomes of participating in green walking groups for this population. Method: A mixed-methods literature review was conducted. A range of databases was systematically searched electronically. Papers that met pre-defined inclusion criteria were selected, critically appraised, and qualitative and quantitative data were extracted. Thematic analysis was used to identify key qualitative outcomes. Findings: Six papers were included and eight mental health outcomes identified. The evidence suggests participants can experience connections with other people, connections with nature, and a sense of freedom. There is some limited evidence to support improvements to mood, self-esteem, reflection on life tasks, and symptoms of depression, with mixed evidence for experiencing a sense of achievement. Conclusion: This review can be used to build the evidence base for the link between occupation and mental health, and inform the clinical decision-making of occupational therapists, who are well-placed to design and implement green walking groups. Purpose The purpose of this study was to identify the following two research questions for paternal depression through a meta-analysis of relevant qualitative studies: 1. How has paternal depression been screened for by professionals? 2. What are the coping strategies /support available for paternal depression and the challenges in providing strategies/ support for paternal depression? Methods Relevant articles were identified using the following databases: CINAHL, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar. The search keywords used were 'support' AND 'postpartum depression of father' OR 'paternal depression' OR 'mental health of fathers' AND 'qualitative study' in the database. There were 32 qualitative articles retrieved from the database and through hand searching, of which 5 articles were included in the analysis. Meta-ethnography were utilised in this study. All analysed papers were scored and guaranteed by the Critical Appraisal Skills Program (CASP; 0-10 points) as valuable qualitative studies. The analysis was performed using NVivo 12 for Windows. Results In the present meta-synthesis, the Patient Health Questionnaire -9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), the Patient Health Questionnaire -15 (PHQ-15), and the List of Threatening Events were used to identify depression in fathers. Additionally, one study used the six criteria of the definition of postnatal depression to identify paternal depressive symptoms. As a result of the meta-synthesis, the following eight metaphors were extracted from all analyses articles: 'Triggers of paternal depression'; 'Awareness of paternal depression'; 'The Impact of paternal depression'; 'Coping'; 'Lack/unhelpful of information resources'; 'Barriers to seeking help'; 'Reasons for needing supports'; and 'Helps for paternal depression'. Paternal depression due to a sequence of triggering events and the perceived symptoms varied. Once fathers realized they had depression, they attempted to cope with it. However, there were inadequate therapies and information to cope with depression. Moreover, embarrassment of seeking help due to being male was also a barrier to coping with depression. In contrast, the responsibility to protect the family motivated them to acknowledge their depression and seek social support and professional help. Conclusion Anxiety and general depression scales were used to screen for paternal depression, and no measures for paternal depression were not used. Men who were aware of paternal depression tried to cope with it; however, it is possible that support for paternal depression was not sufficiently available and that masculinity may also be a barrier to seeking help for depression. On the other hand, the responsibility of protecting their families motivated fathers to be proactive in seeking help to overcome depression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Scar massage is a widely used treatment modality in hand therapy. This intervention is thoroughly discussed in the literature relating to burns rehabilitation, however, the evidence for its use in treating linear scars following surgery is limited. To collate the empirical literature on scar massage for the treatment of postsurgical cutaneous scars. Scoping review. Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, AMED, Scopus, ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global, and the Joanna Briggs Institute were searched from inception to December 2020. Two researchers used a data extraction tool to record key demographic, intervention and outcome data, and to apply the Oxford Levels of Evidence for each study. Twenty-five studies met the inclusion criteria, reporting on a combined sample of 1515 participants. Only two papers addressed hand or wrist scars (92 participants). While all studies reported favorable outcomes for scar massage, there were 45 different outcome measures used and a propensity towards non-standardized assessment. Intervention protocols varied from a single session to three treatments daily for 6 months. The results from 13 studies were confounded by the implementation of additional rehabilitation interventions. The overall findings suggest that while there may be benefits to scar massage in reducing pain, increasing movement and improving scar characteristics; there is a lack of consistent research methods, intervention protocols and outcome measures. This scoping review highlights the heterogenous nature of research into scar massage following surgery and supports the need for further research to substantiate its use in the clinical setting. Background : Health care professionals' work motivation is assumed to be crucial for the quality of hospital care, but it is unclear which type of motivation ought to be stimulated to improve quality. Motivation and similar concepts are aligned along a motivational continuum that ranges from (intrinsic) autonomous motivation to (extrinsic) controlled motivation to provide a framework for this mixed-methods systematic review. Purpose: This mixed-methods systematic review aims to link various types of health care professionals' motivation directly and through their work-related behaviors to quality of care. Methods : Six databases were searched from January 1990 to August 2016. Qualitative and quantitative studies were included if they reported on work motivation in relationship to work behavior and/or quality, and study participants were health care professionals working in hospitals in high-income countries. Study bias was evaluated using the Standard Quality Assessment Criteria for Evaluating Primary Research Papers from a Variety of Fields. The review protocol was registered in the PROSPERO database (CRD42016043284). Results : A total of 84 out of 6,525 unique records met the inclusion criteria. Results show that health care professionals' autonomous motivation improves their quality perceptions and work-related behaviors. Controlled motivation inhibits voicing behavior, but when balanced with autonomous motivation, it stimulates core task and proactive behavior. Proactivity is associated with increased quality of care perceptions. Practice Implications : To improve quality of care, policy makers and managers need to support health care professionals' autonomous motivation and recognize and facilitate proactivity as an essential part of health care professionals' jobs.
