The translation and regulation of scientific and technical term are vital to the development of science and technology of any country. The variant translations of one certain English term are very common among China mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong due to historical, political and geographic factors, which has posed a serious obstacle to many domains like economic, educational and academic exchanges among these regions. The inconsistency of translated terms is most prevalent and troublesome in information technology (IT). This paper attempts to look into the current problems taking IT as the study case in the semantic perspective and to put forward some solutions to regulating the translation of scientific and technical terms in three regions.
