Macroscopic mechanical properties of polymers are determined by their microscopic molecular chain distribution. Due to randomness of these molecular chains, probability theory has been used to find their micro-states and energy distribution. In this paper, aided by central limit theorem and mixed Bayes rule, we showed that entropy elasticity based on Gaussian distribution is questionable. By releasing freely jointed chain assumption, we found that there is energy redistribution when each bond of a molecular chain changes its length. Therefore, we have to change Gaussian distribution used in polymer elasticity to Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution. Since Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution is only a good energy description for gas molecules, we found a mathematical path to change Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution to Fermi-Dirac distribution based on molecular chain structures. Because a molecular chain can be viewed as many monomers glued by covalent electrons, Fermi-Dirac distribution describes the probability of covalent electron occupancy in micro-states for solids such as polymers. Mathematical form of Fermi-Dirac distribution is logistic function. Mathematical simplicity and beauty of Fermi-Dirac distribution make many hard mechanics problems easy to understand. Quantum integrability emerging near a quantum critical point (QCP) is manifested by exotic excitation spectrum that is organized by the associated algebraic structure. A well known example is the emergent $E_8$ integrability near the QCP of a transverse field Ising chain (TFIC), which was long predicted theoretically and initially proposed to be realized in the quasi-one-dimensional (q1D) quantum magnet CoNb$_2$O$_6$. However, later measurements on the spin excitation spectrum of this material revealed a series of satellite peaks that cannot be described by the $E_8$ Lie algebra. Motivated by these experimental progresses, we hereby revisit the spin excitations of CoNb$_2$O$_6$ by combining numerical calculation and analytical analysis. We show that, as effects of strong interchain fluctuations, the spectrum of the system near the 1D QCP is characterized by the $D_{8}^{(1)}$ Lie algebra with robust topological soliton excitation. We further show that the $D_{8}^{(1)}$ spectrum can be realized in a broad class of interacting quantum systems. We propose a binary nonadditive Asakura-Oosawa-like mixture as an example for the classical limit of a Luttinger liquid. We determine the equation of state and structure of this mixture and discuss the paradoxical situation that one faces when working with a quantum liquid without a ground state. Materials discovery, especially for applications that require extreme operating conditions, requires extensive testing that naturally limits the ability to inquire the wealth of possible compositions. Machine Learning (ML) has nowadays a well established role in facilitating this effort in systematic ways. The increasing amount of available accurate DFT data represents a solid basis upon which new ML models can be trained and tested. While conventional models rely on static descriptors, generally suitable for a limited class of systems, the flexibility of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) allows for direct learning representations on graphs, such as the ones formed by crystals. We utilize crystal graph neural networks (CGNN) to predict crystal properties with DFT level accuracy, through graphs with encoding of the atomic (node/vertex), bond (edge), and global state attributes. In this work, we aim at testing the ability of the CGNN MegNet framework in predicting a number of properties of systems previously unseen from the model, obtained by adding a substitutional defect in bulk crystals that are included in the training set. We perform DFT validation to assess the accuracy in the prediction of formation energies and structural features (such as elastic moduli). The purpose of this paper is to show the relationship in all dimensions between the structural (diffraction pattern) aspect of tilings (described by \v{C}ech cohomology of the tiling space) and the spectral properties (of Hamiltonians defined on such tilings) defined by $K$-theory, and to show their equivalence in dimensions $\leq 3$. A theorem makes precise the conditions for this relationship to hold. It can be viewed as an extension of the "Bloch Theorem" to a large class of aperiodic tilings. For this paper, we studied the time evolution of a system of coagulating particles under a generalized electrorheological (ER) kernel with real power, $K\left(i,j\right) = \left( \frac{1}{i}+\frac{1}{j} \right)^\alpha$, and monodisperse initial conditions. We used a combinatorial framework in which time and cluster sizes were discrete and the binary aggregation governed the time evolution of the system. We modified a previously-known solution for the constant kernel to cover the generalized ER kernel and used it in the framework to obtain the exact expression for the cluster size distribution (the average number of particles of a given size) and the standard deviation. Our theoretical solution is validated by a comparison to numerically simulated results for several values of $\alpha$ and to the experimental data of coagulating polystyrene particles. In this work we focus on two questions. One, we complement the machinary to calculate geometric phases along adiabatic cycles as follows. The geometric phase is a line integral along an adiabatic cycle, and if the cycle encircles a degeneracy point, the phase becomes non-trivial. If the cycle crosses the degeneracy point the phase diverges. We construct quantities which are well-defined when the path crosses the degeneracy point. We do this by constructing a generalized Bargmann invariant, and noting that it can be interpreted as a cumulant generating function, with the geometric phase being the first cumulant. We show that particular ratios of cumulants remain finite for cycles crossing a set of isolated degeneracy points. The cumulant ratios take the form of the Binder cumulants known from the theory of finite size scaling in statistical mechanics (we name them geometric Binder cumulants). Two, we show that the machinery developed can be applied to perform finite size scaling in the context of the modern theory of polarization. The geometric Binder cumulants are size independent at gap closure points or regions with closed gap (Luttinger liquid). We demonstrate this by model calculations for a one-dimensional topological model, several two-dimensional models, and a one-dimensional correlated model. In the case of two dimensions we analyze to different situations, one in which the Fermi surface is one-dimensional (a line), and two cases in which it is zero dimensional (Dirac points). For the geometric Binder cumulants the gap closure points can be found by one dimensional scaling even in two dimensions. As a technical point we stress that only certain finite difference approximations for the cumulants are applicable, since not all approximation schemes are capable of extracting the size scaling information in the case of a closed gap system.

Gibbsian structure in random point fields has been a classical tool for studying their spatial properties. However, exact Gibbs property is available only in a relatively limited class of models, and it does not adequately address many random fields with a strongly dependent spatial structure. In this work, we provide a general framework for approximate Gibbsian structure for strongly correlated random point fields. These include processes that exhibit strong spatial rigidity, in particular, a certain one-parameter family of analytic Gaussian zero point fields, namely the $\alpha$-GAFs. Our framework entails conditions that may be verified via finite particle approximations to the process, a phenomenon that we call an approximate Gibbs property. We show that these enable one to compare the spatial conditional measures in the infinite volume limit with Gibbs-type densities supported on appropriate singular manifolds, a phenomenon we refer to as a generalized Gibbs property. We demonstrate the scope of our approach by showing that a generalized Gibbs property holds with a logarithmic pair potential for the $\alpha$-GAFs for any value of $\alpha$. This establishes the level of rigidity of the $\alpha$-GAF zero process to be exactly $\lfloor \frac{1}{\alpha} \rfloor$, settling in the affirmative an open question regarding the existence of point processes with any specified level of rigidity. For processes such as the zeros of $\alpha$-GAFs, which involve complex, many-body interactions, our results imply that the local behaviour of the random points still exhibits 2D Coulomb-type repulsion in the short range. We revisit our initial derivations of the exact 2-spinon $S_2$ and 4-spinon $S_4$ dynamical structure factors (DSF). First we show that the latter derivations had normalization factors that are twice and quadriple the correct ones respectively. This means that $S_2$ contributes not 72% as was previously thought but 36% to the total DSF. We also calculated the contribution of $S_4$ to be between 18% and 20% and not 27% as was calculated by Caux and Hagemans. In fact we show that the latter reference had also the normalization factor twice the correct value and had it done the numeric integrations correctly it would have obtained a contribution between 36% and 40% for $S_4$. Furthermore, we prove that its claim that our initial derivation of $S_4$ was also incorrect in its dependency on the spectral parameters is incorrect because fixing the momentun transfer $k$ up to $2\pi$ as the latter reference did to justify its claim only amounts to mutltiplying the overall factor by 2 because as we will prove in this paper $S_4$ is periodic in $k$ with period $2\pi$. Also in this paper we derive $S_n$ for general $n$ by following a different approach compared to our initial derivation of $S_4$. Although for $S_4$ both the new derivation and the initial one lead to equivalent formulas that are expressed differently, the new form presented in this paper is much more elegant and compact and also reveals new hidden and nontrivial symmetries which substantially simplify the numeric evaluation of $S_4$ and its sum rules. Moreover based on the results of this paper we propose a simple approximation to the total DSF of the Heisenberg model. Finally we comment on how our work might resolve the discrepancy between the exact theoretic results and experiemntal data as reported by Zaliznyak et al.

We discuss, using recent results on the Landauer's bound in multivalued logic, the difficulties and pitfalls of how to apply this principle. The presentation is based on Szilard's version of Maxwell's demon experiment and use of equilibrium Thermodynamics. Different versions of thermodynamical/mechanical memory are presented - one-hot encoding version and the implementation based on reversed Szilard's experiment. The area law for entanglement provides one of the most important connections between information theory and quantum many-body physics. It is not only related to the universality of quantum phases, but also to efficient numerical simulations in the ground state. Various numerical observations have led to a strong belief that the area law is true for every non-critical phase in short-range interacting systems. However, the area law for long-range interacting systems is still elusive, as the long-range interaction results in correlation patterns similar to those in critical phases. Here, we show that for generic non-critical one-dimensional ground states with locally bounded Hamiltonians, the area law robustly holds without any corrections, even under long-range interactions. Our result guarantees an efficient description of ground states by the matrix-product state in experimentally relevant long-range systems, which justifies the density-matrix renormalization algorithm., Comment: 8 pages + 44 pages, 12 figures

In this paper, explicit method of constructing approximations (the Triangle Entropy Method) is developed for nonequilibrium problems. This method enables one to treat any complicated nonlinear functionals that fit best the physics of a problem (such as, for example, rates of processes) as new independent variables. The work of the method was demonstrated on the Boltzmann's--type kinetics. New macroscopic variables are introduced (moments of the Boltzmann collision integral, or scattering rates). They are treated as independent variables rather than as infinite moment series. This approach gives the complete account of rates of scattering processes. Transport equations for scattering rates are obtained (the second hydrodynamic chain), similar to the usual moment chain (the first hydrodynamic chain). Various examples of the closure of the first, of the second, and of the mixed hydrodynamic chains are considered for the hard spheres model. It is shown, in particular, that the complete account of scattering processes leads to a renormalization of transport coefficients. The method gives the explicit solution for the closure problem, provides thermodynamic properties of reduced models, and can be applied to any kinetic equation with a thermodynamic Lyapunov function., Comment: Extended version with new introduction, figures, example, and references

We consider the scaling properties characterizing the hyperuniformity (or anti-hyperuniformity) of long wavelength fluctuations in a broad class of one-dimensional substitution tilings. We present a simple argument that predicts the exponent $\alpha$ governing the scaling of Fourier intensities at small wavenumbers, tilings with $\alpha>0$ being hyperuniform, and confirm with numerical computations that the predictions are accurate for quasiperiodic tilings, tilings with singular continuous spectra, and limit-periodic tilings. Tilings with quasiperiodic or singular continuous spectra can be constructed with $\alpha$ arbitrarily close to any given value between $-1$ and $3$. We study translation invariant stochastic processes on $\mathbb{R}^d$ or $\mathbb{Z}^d$ whose diffraction spectrum or structure function $S(k)$, i.e. the Fourier transform of the truncated total pair correlation function, vanishes on an open set $U$ in the wave space. A key family of such processes are stealthy hyperuniform point processes, for which the origin $k=0$ is in $U$; these are of much current physical interest. We show that all such processes exhibit the following remarkable maximal rigidity : namely, the configuration outside a bounded region determines, with probability 1, the exact value (or the exact locations of the points) of the process inside the region. In particular, such processes are completely determined by their tail. In the 1D discrete setting (i.e. $\mathbb{Z}$-valued processes on $\mathbb{Z}$), this can also be seen as a consequence of a recent theorem of Borichev, Sodin and Weiss; in higher dimensions or in the continuum, such a phenomenon seems novel. For stealthy hyperuniform point processes, we prove the Zhang-Stillinger-Torquato conjecture that such processes have bounded holes (empty regions), with a universal bound that depends inversely on the size of $U$.

We consider several quadrilateral origami tilings, including the Miura-ori crease pattern, allowing for crease-reversal defects above the ground state which maintain local flat-foldability. Using exactly solvable models, we show that these origami tilings can have phase transitions as a function of crease state variables, as a function of the arrangement of creases around vertices, and as a function of local layer orderings of neighboring faces. We use the exactly solved cases of the staggered odd 8-vertex model as well as Baxter's exactly solved 3-coloring problem on the square lattice to study these origami tilings. By treating the crease-reversal defects as a lattice gas, we find exact analytic expressions for their density, which is directly related to the origami material's elastic modulus. The density and phase transition analysis has implications for the use of these origami tilings as tunable metamaterials; our analysis shows that Miura-ori's density is more tunable than Barreto's Mars, for example. We also find that there is a broader range of tunability as a function of the density of layering defects compared to as a function of the density of crease order defects before the phase transition point is reached; material and mechanical properties that depend on local layer ordering properties will have a greater amount of tunability. The defect density of Barreto's Mars, on the other hand, can be increased until saturation without passing through a phase transition point. We further consider relaxing the requirement of local flat-foldability by mapping to a solvable case of the 16-vertex model, demonstrating a different phase transition point for this case.

Motivated by the possibility of electrochemical control of phase separation, a variational theory of thermodynamic stability is developed for driven reactive mixtures, based on a nonlinear generalization of the Cahn-Hilliard and Allen-Cahn equations. The Glansdorff-Prigogine stability criterion is extended for driving chemical work, based on variations of nonequilibrium Gibbs free energy. Linear stability is generally determined by the competition of chemical diffusion and driven autocatalysis. Novel features arise for electrochemical systems, related to controlled total current (galvanostatic operation), concentration-dependent exchange current (Butler-Volmer kinetics), and negative differential reaction resistance (Marcus kinetics). The theory shows how spinodal decomposition can be controlled by solo-autocatalytic charge transfer, with only a single Faradaic reaction. Experimental evidence is presented for intercalation and electrodeposition in rechargeable batteries, and further applications are discussed in solid state ionics, electrovariable optics, electrochemical precipitation, and biological pattern formation.

A general solution for vacancy-mediated diffusion in the dilute-vacancy/dilute-solute limit for arbitrary crystal structures is derived from the master equation. A general numerical approach to the vacancy lattice Green function reduces to the sum of a few analytic functions and numerical integration of a smooth function over the Brillouin zone for arbitrary crystals. The Dyson equation solves for the Green function in the presence of a solute with arbitrary but finite interaction range to compute the transport coefficients accurately, efficiently and automatically, including cases with very large differences in solute-vacancy exchange rates. The methodology takes advantage of the space group symmetry of a crystal to reduce the complexity of the matrix inversion in the Dyson equation. An open-source implementation of the algorithm is available, and numerical results are presented for the convergence of the integration error of the bare vacancy Green function, and tracer correlation factors for a variety of crystals including wurtzite (hexagonal diamond) and garnet., Comment: 54 pages, 6 figures, 5 tables

The behavior of the shear modulus caused by proliferation of dipoles of non-singular screw dislocations with finite-sized core is considered. The representation of two-dimensional Coulomb gas with smoothed-out coupling is used, and the stress-stress correlation function is calculated. A convolution integral expressed in terms of the modified Bessel function $K_0$ is derived in order to obtain the shear modulus in approximation of interacting dipoles. When driven out of equilibrium by a temperature gradient, fluids respond by developing a nontrivial, inhomogeneous structure according to the governing macroscopic laws. Here we show that such structure obeys strikingly simple scaling laws arbitrarily far from equilibrium, provided that both macroscopic local equilibrium and Fourier's law hold. Extensive simulations of hard disk fluids confirm the scaling laws even under strong temperature gradients, implying that Fourier's law remains valid in this highly nonlinear regime, with putative corrections absorbed into a nonlinear conductivity functional. In addition, our results show that the scaling laws are robust in the presence of strong finite-size effects, hinting at a subtle bulk-boundary decoupling mechanism which enforces the macroscopic laws on the bulk of the finite-sized fluid. A continuum model for the dynamics of a single step with the strongly anisotropic line energy is formulated and analyzed. The step grows by attachment of adatoms from the lower terrace, onto which atoms adsorb from a vapor phase or from a molecular beam, and the desorption is non-negligible (the "one-sided" model). Via a multi-scale expansion, we derived a longwave, strongly nonlinear, and strongly anisotropic evolution PDE for the step profile. Written in terms of the step slope, the PDE can be represented in the form similar to a convective Cahn-Hilliard equation. We performed the linear stability analysis and computed the nonlinear dynamics. Linear stability depends on whether the stiffness is minimum or maximum in the direction of the step growth. It also depends nontrivially on the combination of the anisotropy strength parameter and the atomic flux from the terrace to the step. Computations show formation and coarsening of a hill-and-valley structure superimposed onto a large-wavelength profile, which independently coarsens. We revisit the Mittag-Leffler functions of a real variable $t$, with one, two and three order-parameters $\{\alpha, \beta, \gamma\}$, as far as their Laplace transform pairs and complete monotonicty properties are concerned. These functions, subjected to the requirement to be completely monotone for $t>0$, are shown to be suitable models for non--Debye relaxation phenomena in dielectrics including as particular cases the classical models referred to as Cole-Cole, Davidson-Cole and Havriliak-Negami. This article describes the theoretical foundation of and explicit algorithms for a novel approach to morphology and anisotropy analysis of complex spatial structure using tensor-valued Minkowski functionals, the so-called Minkowski tensors. Minkowski tensors are generalisations of the well-known scalar Minkowski functionals and are explicitly sensitive to anisotropic aspects of morphology, relevant for example for elastic moduli or permeability of microstructured materials. Here we derive explicit linear-time algorithms to compute these tensorial measures for three-dimensional shapes. These apply to representations of any object that can be represented by a triangulation of its bounding surface; their application is illustrated for the polyhedral Voronoi cellular complexes of jammed sphere configurations, and for triangulations of a biopolymer fibre network obtained by confocal microscopy. The article further bridges the substantial notational and conceptual gap between the different but equivalent approaches to scalar or tensorial Minkowski functionals in mathematics and in physics, hence making the mathematical measure theoretic method more readily accessible for future application in the physical sciences.

Scaling and hyperscaling laws provide exact relations among critical exponents describing the behavior of a system at criticality. For nonequilibrium growth models with a conserved drift there exist few of them. One such relation is $\alpha +z=4$, found to be inexact in a renormalization group calculation for several classical models in this field. Herein we focus on the two-dimensional case and show that it is possible to construct conserved surface growth equations for which the relation $\alpha +z=4$ is exact in the renormalization group sense. We explain the presence of this scaling law in terms of the existence of geometric principles dominating the dynamics.

The asymptotic shape of randomly growing radial clusters is studied. We pose the problem in terms of the dynamics of stochastic partial differential equations. We concentrate on the properties of the realizations of the stochastic growth process and in particular on the interface fluctuations. Our goal is unveiling under which conditions the developing radial cluster asymptotically weakly converges to the concentrically propagating spherically symmetric profile or either to a symmetry breaking shape. We demonstrate that the long range correlations of the surface fluctuations obey a self-affine scaling and that scale invariance is achieved by means of the introduction of three critical exponents. These are able to characterize the large scale dynamics and to describe those regimes dominated by system size evolution. The connection of these results with mathematical morphogenetic problems is also outlined.

Various methods achieving importance sampling in ensembles of nonequilibrium trajectories enable to estimate free energy differences and, by maximum-likelihood post-processing, to reconstruct free energy landscapes. Here, based on Bayes theorem, we propose a more direct method in which a posterior likelihood function is used both to construct the steered dynamics and to infer the contribution to equilibrium of all the sampled states. The method is implemented with two steering schedules. First, using non-autonomous steering, we calculate the migration barrier of the vacancy in Fe-alpha. Second, using an autonomous scheduling related to metadynamics and equivalent to temperature-accelerated molecular dynamics, we accurately reconstruct the two-dimensional free energy landscape of the 38-atom Lennard-Jones cluster as a function of an orientational bond-order parameter and energy, down to the solid-solid structural transition temperature of the cluster and without maximum-likelihood post-processing., Comment: Accepted manuscript in Journal of Computational Physics, 7 figures

We analyze the relationship between the lowest energy configurations of an infinite harmonic chain of particles in a periodic potential and the evolution of characteristics in a periodically-forced inviscid Burgers equation. The shock discontinuities in the the Burgers evolution arise from thermodynamical considerations and play an important role as they separate out flows related to lowest energy configurations from those associated with higher energies. We study in detail the exactly solvable case of an external potential consisting of parabolic segments, and calculate analytically the lowest energy configurations, as well as excited states containing discommensurations., Comment: 21 pages, 12 figures. The dynamics of fluctuating radially growing interfaces is approached using the formalism of stochastic growth equations on growing domains. This framework reveals a number of dynamic features arising during surface growth. For fast growth, dilution, which spatially reorders the incoming matter, is responsible for the transmission of correlations. Its effects include the erasing of memory with respect to the initial condition, a partial attenuation of geometrically originated instabilities, and the restoring of universality in some special cases in which the critical exponents depend on the parameters of the equation of motion. In this sense, dilution rends the dynamics more similar to the usual one of planar systems. This fast growth regime is also characterized by the spatial decorrelation of the interface, which in the case of radially growing interfaces naturally originates rapid roughening and scale dependent fractality, and suggests the advent of a self-similar fractal dimension. The center of mass fluctuations of growing clusters are also studied, and our analysis suggests the possible non-applicability of usual scalings to the long range surface fluctuations of the radial Eden model. In fact, our study points to the fact that this model belongs to a dilution-free universality class.

Within investigating the multiple charge spreading generalizing the Bertaut approach, a set of confined spreading functions with a polynomial behaviour, but defined so as to enhance the rate of convergence of Coulomb series even upon a single spreading, is proposed. It is shown that multiple spreading is ultimately effective especially in the case when the spreading functions of neighbouring point charges overlap. In the cases of a simple exponential and a Gaussian spreading functions the effect of multiplicity of spreading on the rate of convergence is discussed along with an additional optimization of the spreading parameter in dependence on the cut-off parameters of lattice summation. We propose and study a continuum model for the dynamics of amorphizable surfaces undergoing ion-beam sputtering (IBS) at intermediate energies and oblique incidence. After considering the current limitations of more standard descriptions in which a single evolution equation is posed for the surface height, we overcome (some of) them by explicitly formulating the dynamics of the species that transport along the surface, and by coupling it to that of the surface height proper. In this we follow recent proposals inspired by ``hydrodynamic'' descriptions of pattern formation in aeolian sand dunes and ion-sputtered systems. From this enlarged model, and by exploiting the time-scale separation among various dynamical processes in the system, we derive a single height equation in which coefficients can be related to experimental parameters. This equation generalizes those obtained by previous continuum models and is able to account for many experimental features of pattern formation by IBS at oblique incidence, such as the evolution of the irradiation-induced amorphous layer, transverse ripple motion with non-uniform velocity, ripple coarsening, onset of kinetic roughening and other. We propose a method, which enables precise control of magnetic patterns, relying only on the fundamental properties of the wire and the choice of the path in the controlled parameter space but not on the rate of motion along this path. Possible experimental realizations of this mechanism are discussed. In particular, we show that the domain walls in magnetic nanowires can be translated by rotation of the magnetic easy axis, or by applying pulses of magnetic field directed transverse to the magnetic easy axis., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures

We study how the two-point density correlation properties of a point particle distribution are modified when each particle is divided, by a stochastic process, into an equal number of identical "daughter" particles. We consider generically that there may be non-trivial correlations in the displacement fields describing the positions of the different daughters of the same "mother" particle, and then treat separately the cases in which there are, or are not, correlations also between the displacements of daughters belonging to different mothers. For both cases exact formulae are derived relating the structure factor (power spectrum) of the daughter distribution to that of the mother. These results can be considered as a generalization of the analogous equations obtained in ref. [1] (cond-mat/0409594) for the case of stochastic displacement fields applied to particle distributions. An application of the present results is that they give explicit algorithms for generating, starting from regular lattice arrays, stochastic particle distributions with an arbitrarily high degree of large-scale uniformity., Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures

We investigate the asymptotic properties of the large deviation function of the integrated particle current in systems, in or out of thermal equilibrium, whose dynamics exhibits anomalous diffusion. The physical systems covered by our study include mutually repelling particles with a drift, a driven lattice gas displaying a continuous nonequilibrium phase transition, and particles diffusing in a anisotropic random advective field. It is exemplified how renormalisation group techniques allow for a systematic determination of power laws in the corresponding current large deviation functions. A previously considered model interpreted a superconductor as an electron gas immersed in a medium with the dielectric constant $\epsilon$ and a certain elasticity, which could be determined by measured sonic speed in the metal. The obtained expression of effective electron-electron interaction (EEI) potential unambiguously implied that, contrary to the suggestions of BCS theory, it is its long-wave limit which is responsible for the emergence of bound two-electron states and, consequently, for gap formation in one-electron spectrum of the metal. However, the existence of singularities in the EEI potential expression continued to pose a problem, which did not allow a calculation of the gap value for specific superconducting materials, first of all, for metals belonging to periodic table (PT). In the present work, I suggest taking into account matrix elements traditionally attributed to electron scattering in EEI effective potential calculations. For superconductors that has been made on the basis of a semiconductor material by implanting electro-active defects into it, this inclusion results in the appearance of an uncertainty of electron momentum $\delta p \sim l^{- 1}$, where $l$ is the electron free path. When considering pure PT metals, Hamiltonian terms relating to creation and annihilaton of phonons should be taken into account, which also produces an uncertainty of electron momentum. This uncertainty results in a regularization of EEI potential expression and, therefore, in a possibility of examination of physical properties of specific superconductors. Results of calculation of superconductivity gap value for a range of simple metals (Al, Zn, Pb, Sn) confirm the consistency of the developed approach., Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures

We derive the fractional generalization of the Ginzburg-Landau equation from the variational Euler-Lagrange equation for fractal media. To describe fractal media we use the fractional integrals considered as approximations of integrals on fractals. Some simple solutions of the Ginzburg-Landau equation for fractal media are considered and different forms of the fractional Ginzburg-Landau equation or nonlinear Schrodinger equation with fractional derivatives are presented. We consider generalizations of the Kardar--Parisi--Zhang equation that accomodate spatial anisotropies and the coupled evolution of several fields, and focus on their symmetries and non-perturbative properties. In particular, we derive generalized fluctuation--dissipation conditions on the form of the (non-linear) equations for the realization of a Gaussian probability density of the fields in the steady state. For the amorphous growth of a single height field in one dimension we give a general class of equations with exactly calculable (Gaussian and more complicated) steady states. In two dimensions, we show that any anisotropic system evolves on long time and length scales either to the usual isotropic strong coupling regime or to a linear-like fixed point associated with a hidden symmetry. Similar results are derived for textural growth equations that couple the height field with additional order parameters which fluctuate on the growing surface. In this context, we propose phenomenological equations for the growth of a crystalline material, where the height field interacts with lattice distortions, and identify two special cases that obtain Gaussian steady states. In the first case compression modes influence growth and are advected by height fluctuations, while in the second case it is the density of dislocations that couples with the height., Comment: 9 pages, revtex4

Some models of clustering processes are formulated and analytically solved employing generating functions methods. Those models include events which result from combined action of the coagulation and fragmentation processes. Fragmentation processes of two kinds, so-called similar and arbitrary, ones, are brought forward, and the explicit forms of their solutions are produced. This implies some possibility of existence of different aggregation mechanisms for clusters creation differing in their inner structure. All the models are based on "the three-level bunch" scheme of interaction between the system states. Those states are described in terms of the probability to find the system in the state with an exactly given number of clusters. The models are linear in the probability functions due to the assumption that the rates of elementary acts are permanent. Some peculiarities of application of the generating function method to solution of the linear differential-difference equations are revealed. We prove that for a wide class of quantum spin systems with isotropic Heisenberg coupling the energy eigenvalues which belong to a total spin quantum number S have upper and lower bounds depending at most quadratically on S. The only assumption adopted is that the mean coupling strength of any spin w.r.t. its neighbours is constant for all N spins. The coefficients of the bounding parabolas are given in terms of special eigenvalues of the N times N coupling matrix which are usually easily evaluated. In addition we show that the bounding parabolas, if properly shifted, provide very good approximations of the true boundaries of the spectrum.
