After analysis of calorimetric tests results of the cement mixtures with PSw prepared at different temperatures and SEM, XRD, physical-mechanical properties results of cement stone hardened for 7 and 28 days, it is determined that PSw can be utilized/used for the preparation of cement mixtures by adding up to 5%. Depending on the environmental working conditions, the preparation of PSw can be selected. To slow down cement hydration processes, it is useful to use only dried PSw, which slows down the hydration of the cement due to the high content of cellulose contained in PSw. To accelerate cement hydration, it is expedient to use PSw which is burned at 700degC. Dried PSw performs an extended induction hydration period and significantly delays the second heat release time. After the addition of 5% dried PSw, the phase III effect time compared to the control sample is 1.8 h, and after 10% addition, it is extended to 4.4 h. After the addition of 5% burnt PSw, the phase III effect time compared to the control sample is hastened to 1.9 h, after inserting 10% - to 2.4 h. The use of PSw saves the environment, reduces the amount of cement in the mixture and improves the properties of cement materials. Using 5% PSw burned at 700degC instead of cement increases the compressive strength of the specimens, and the density as well as ultrasound pulse velocity values are slightly changed compared to the control sample. It is determined that burnt PSw significantly changes mineral composition and structure. It is found that the microstructure of samples without PSw and samples with dried 5% PSw is similar, crystals formed are visible. With a higher (10%) amount of dried PSw, the microstructure of the cement stone differs significantly from the control samples. Larger voids with plenty of etringite are also visible, as well as higher levels of calcite. The microstructure of specimens with burnt PSw is significantly denser. XRD studies show that with a higher amount of PSw burned at 75degC, the main peak intensities of crystallohydrates ettringite and portlandite are lower, while the peak intensities of calcite are higher compared to samples without PSw. By increasing the amount of dried PSw in mixtures and reducing the amount of cement, the peak intensities corresponding to CSH and CASH are lower compared to those of the control samples. Using burnt PSw also reduces the peak intensities of ettringite, portlandite, CSH and belite, but significantly increases peak intensities of calcite and CASH.

The ability to clearly identify the source of problem and it causal factors is the main advantage of this method since the improvement effort becomes focused. Pulp and Paper Industries is one of the manufacturing companies that produce dissolving pulp products (rayon fibre). Based on data from the fibre line department, for the period of January - July 2016, the production process of rayon fibre often experienced constraints due to the high downtime and losses in the pulp machine. This is caused of using production process equipment that had not operate optimally. It is important to find out the source of the problem and its causal factors before the company makes any improvement effort. This study aims to identify equipment losses and measure the achievement of OEE values in the pulp machine. The measurement result shows that the average of the effectiveness of pulp machine for the period of January - July 2016 was 74.01% and based on Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) the value has not reached the standard that is > 85%, however, there is still possibility for improvement. One of the loss factors that give the most significant effect on the overall equipment effectiveness of the pulp machine is the reducing speed, where it comprises 27.6% of the loss. One way to minimize the loss is by maintaining the actual speed of operation and maintaining wear on each pulp machine roll.

In this research, design optimization of the dryer paper machine gear (driven gear) is performed by adding a stress-relieving hole feature. The aim of this research is to find the effect of hole features with a specific position and diameter size in reducing the value of stress that occurs so that the lifetime of the gear will increase. Design optimization begins with finding problem data that occurs in work field and continues with the analysis by mathematical calculations and software simulation by using Autodesk Inventor 2017 education version to find stress distribution that occurs on the gear with the current operating load used. From the analysis carried out on the gear in operational working conditions, the maximum stress value occurs on the fillet radius area with 22.7 MPa. With the addition of a stress-relieving hole feature in the area around the fillet radius, the optimal stress reduction was obtained by 7.05% to 21.08 MPa. The strength of concrete mix is dependent on many parameters like cement type, coarse aggregate and the interface between aggregate and mortar. However, generally the coarse aggregate is treated as an inert material and only its physical properties like shape, size, water absorption and specific gravity are studied. Whereas, as we increase the quality of mortar mix, the strength of coarse aggregate also comes into picture. In case of high performance concrete, the type of coarse aggregate used has a great influence on the strength and elasticity modulus of concrete. For high strength concrete with compressive strength above 40 MPa, which are generally cast with water-cement ratio less than or equal to 0.4, the strength of mortar and the interfacial bond strength may be comparable to the strength of aggregate. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the past research work done on the effect of using different types of coarse aggregate on various properties of concrete mix like its compressive strength, tensile strength and elasticity modulus.

Large amount of fly ash are produces from various thermal power plant and their disposal is becoming one of the major environmental challenge. Till few years back, fly ash generated by the burning of coal fired power plants was considered as material of very low value, useful only for landfill. But its usefulness as pozzolanic additive to cement is an important discovery. Therefore, studies have been carried out to reuse high volume fly ash as cement replacement in building materials. This paper presents an overview of the previous studies carried out on the use of high volume Indian & international fly ash as a partial replacement of cement in concrete mixtures. Fresh properties, mechanical properties, abrasion resistance, porosity, water absorption, compressive strength, flexural tensile strength of mortar and concrete mixtures containing high volume fly ash as cement replacement have been reviewed.

Flame spread behavior on combustible solid is one of important research related to Fire Safety Engineering. Now, there are a lot of combustible solid composed from mixed materials. In this study, experiments have been conducted to investigate flame spread behavior over combustible solid composed by paper, bagasse and mixed paper/bagasse. Experimental data is captured by using video recording and examined flame spread shape and rate. From the results obtained, shows that the different materials produce different flame spread shape and rate. Different flame shape is seen between all types of samples. Flame spread rate of 100% paper is faster than the one of 100% bagasse. Based on the result, it is also inferred that the material composition can be influenced on the flame spread shape and flame spread rate of mixed paper/bagasse.

Papers are one of the most used materials in food packaging industries. Additives need to be added in order to improve and prolong sensory properties of food. This is to maintain the food quality level before reaching to the end users. A preliminary study has been conducted to produce antimicrobial paper by blending the pulps of Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus) with oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB). The papermaking was done according to TAPPI Standard Method. Morphological observation using Scanning Electron Microscope was carried out for all samples while physical, optical and mechanical paper properties were also determined. A simple antimicrobial test was also done by using 3 types of fungus namely as Aspergillus brasiliensis ATCC 16404, Gram positive Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Salmonella choleraesuis (subtype enterica). The morphological observation showed the difference between EFB paper and paper made of blended pulps. Citronella was found to affect the physical, optical and mechanical paper properties as expected. To be specific, the paper opacity was improved while the mechanical properties especially tensile and tear indices were dropped tremendously. However, the presence of Citronella in the paper sheet seems to have good potential as an antimicrobial agent as shown by the antimicrobial test

Oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) is one of the most copious residues which are left behind after the oil refining process. It is categorized as short fiber which can be used in the production of pulp and paper. In most cases, EFB fibers need other supporting agent to enhance their wet and dry strength of paper properties. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the effect of paper strength after incorporating different percentage of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) of 0, 3, 6 and 9% with EFB fibers. The standard method in producing the hand-sheet was applied. Comparison is carried among all samples to determine the optimum percentage of MCC which is suitable to strengthen the paper. Results showed that physical properties of paper in terms of porosity do not have significant effect while the opacity was slightly decreased. The mechanical properties such as tensile strength and tear resistance for MCC papers are better especially paper tensile strength. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image showed the morphological structure of paper surface that contains without and with MCC. In conclusion mechanical properties of the hand-sheets are improved with the incorporation of less than 10% MCC into the pulp fibers.

In this work, the chemical composition, fibre dimensions and morphology, elemental analysis and paper characterisation of sesame, millet, karkadeh and sorghum stalks were studied. Soda and soda-anthraquinone pulping as sulfur-free processes were applied. It was found that, the cellulose content of karkadeh, sesame, millet and sorghum stalks were 45.80, 42.30, 40.99 and 35.40%, respectively. Klason lignin was found to be highest in sesame 20.85% while it was 19.32, 18.20 and 10.32% in karkadeh, millet and sorghum, respectively. Moreover, karkadeh showed highest pulp yield (46.60% and 43.50%) with viscosity of (655 ml/g and 640 ml/g) and kappa number of (18.00 and 19.40) for soda-AQ and soda pulps, followed by sesame, okra and sorghum, respectively. Overall strength properties of the handsheet made from karkadeh pulp were significantly higher than those made from sesame, millet, and sorghum pulps. Morphological analysis and chemical composition of the studied fibrous materials showed their suitability for producing paper of various grades including writing and printing paper as well as packaging applications.

Metal oxide nanoparticles such as zinc oxide are increasingly being recognized for potential use in research and health-related application. It is usually incorporated in the modern healthcare products functioning as antimicrobial properties. These inorganic compounds could be applied for antimicrobial paper. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate the growth distribution of zinc oxide nanoparticles prepared via in-situ approaches on unbleached and bleached pulps. In order to produce these pulps, hydrothermal method is used throughout the study. The micrograph obtained from the scanning of Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope exhibited that zinc oxide nanoparticles appeared in the range of 64.1 nm to 87.5 nm supported by the analysis of Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis, as high as 27% zinc and 39% oxygen. As expected, zinc oxide nanoparticles decreased the mechanical properties of paper due to the interference of fiber bonding. Antimicrobial test demonstrated acceptable results which required further test.

In chemical pulping process, lignin is targeted to be dissolved and eliminated as much as possible in order to obtain better fiber separation. A primary study was carried out to investigate the effect of sodium hydroxide pretreatment prior to bamboo chemical pulping. The selected bamboo species was Gigantochloa scortechinii which is a well-known bamboo in Malaysia. The bamboo chips were soaked in 2 % sodium hydroxide solution for 6 hours at 60 degC. These treated chips were cooked at 14 % and 18 % of alkali active via kraft pulping process. The unbleached pulp was obtained and made into paper. The pulp and paper were tested according to pulp yield, pulp freeness, paper optical, paper physical and paper mechanical properties. The results exhibited that by using treated bamboo chips, the value of pulp yield, freeness and paper brightness increasing. Slight decrement was observed for mechanical paper properties such as tensile, tear and burst strength. Chemical pretreatment prior to pulping process was investigated to offer significant effects to the pulp and paper properties of bamboo Gigantochloa scortechinii. Hence, mild kraft pulping can be carried out to produce bamboo unbleached pulps. In addition, dependency on bleaching sequences can also be declined.

There are many paper-based documents, archives and books contaminated by iron rust beacuse they were fixed with iron staples or clips. Iron rust not only disfigures the paper, covers the writtings or images of paper, but also makes paper brittle. Iron rust is very difficult to remove due to its insolubility in water and organic solvents. Thiourea dioxide(TDO), an agent with strong reducibility, easy accessibility, stability and safety was applied to remove iron rust in this work. The concentration of TDO solution, iron rust removal effect and removal rate were studied. The results showed that TDO was an effective and safe agents to remove iron rust from paper documents. The concentration was higher, the removal speed was faster. But to get high concentration, TDO need to be dissolved at higher temperature which is damage to paper. In view of the above facts, the proper treatment bath was 5% at 40degC. Results also showed that the combination of 5% TDO and EDTA can remove iron rust from paper completely in 4 hours.

The O-ring paper plane can be categorized as one of the Micro Air Vehicle (MAV) based on their characteristics and size. However, the aerodynamics performance of the O-ring paper plane was not fully discovered by previous researchers due to its aerodynamics complexity and various hoop diameters. Thus, the objective of this research is to study the influence of hoop diameters towards the aerodynamics performance of O-ring paper plane. In this works, three types of O-ring paper plane known as Design 1, 2 and 3 with different hoop diameter were initially developed by using the ANSYS-Design Modeler. All the design was analyzed based on aerodynamic simulations works executed on ANSYS-CFX solver. The results suggested that Design 3 (with larger hoop size) produced better CL, CLmax and AoAstall magnitude compared to other design. In fact, O-ring paper plane with larger hoop size configurations showed potential in providing at least 5.2% and 5.9% better performance in stability (DCM/DCL) and aerodynamic efficiency (CL/CDmax), respectively. Despite the advantages found in lift performances, however, O-ring paper plane with larger hoop size configurations slightly suffered from larger drag increment (CDincrement) compared to smaller hoop size configurations. Based on these results, it can be presumed that O-Ring paper plane with larger hoop sizes contributed into better lift, stability and aerodynamic efficiency performances but slightly suffered from larger drag penalty.

Buildings are responsible for 36% of the final energy consumption in Morocco [1-2], and a reduction of this energy consumption of buildings is a priority for the kingdom in order to reach its energy saving goals. One of the most effective actions to reduce energy consumption is the selection and development of innovative and efficient building materials [3]. In this work, we present an experimental study of the effect of adding treated organic waste (paper, cardboard, hash) on mechanical and thermal properties of cement and clay bricks. Thermal conductivity, specific heat and mechanical resistance were investigated in terms of content and size additives. Soaking time and drying temperature were also taken into account. The results reveal that thermal conductivity decreases as well in the case of the paper-cement mixture as that of the paper-clay and seems to stabilize around 40%. In the case of the composite paper-cement, it is found that, for an additives quantity exceeding 15%, the compressive strength exceeds the standard for the hollow non-load bearing masonry. However, the case of paper-clay mixture seems to give more interesting results, related to the compressive strength, for a mass composition of 15% in paper. Given the positive results achieved, it seems possible to use these composites for the construction of walls, ceilings and roofs of housing while minimizing the energy consumption of the building.

Theincreasing of demand of pulp and paper products, will following with the growing the pulp and paper industryand generate significant mill waste. The total waste reached 1/3 of the amount raw materials used and ash boiler is the waste with the largest percentage of 52%. For that it takes effort to manage the existing waste. The boiler ash contained the chemical elements, it can be utilized such as fertilizer, because it also contains transition metals in form of heavy metal such as Cadmium (Cd), Cobalt (Co), Chrome (Cr), Cupprum (Cu), Ferrum (Fe), Nickel (Ni), and Zinc (Zn), the use of boiler ash must follow the threshold specified by the Government. Several studies have been undertaken to reduce and extract heavy metals from ash and sand of the boiler by using carbon dioxide as its ligand. Eelectrochemical method was used to remove and recovery of heavy metals from the incenerator. This study focused on removal of heavy metals using Lauryl Amine as collector and three solvents namely Dichloromethane, Ethanol and n-Hexane. The treatmentswas able to extract the heavy metal and generally reduce the heavy metal content of ash boiler pulp and paper mill waste. The combination treatment used toreduce the heavy metal content of 5 gram Lauryl Amine collector in Dichloromethane solvent for 4 hours process time.

The carbon composite papers were produced by utilizing carbon materials from coconut coir. In the present work, carbon composite papers (CCP) were prepared by mixing carbon materials in the form of powder and fibre with polymer (ethylene vinyl acetate and polyethylene glycol) in xylene at 100degC. Then, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) with different content was used to treat the surface of CCP. The properties of PTFE-coated CCP were analysed by means of contact angle measurement, tensile testing, porosity, density, and electrical conductivity measurements. As expected, all CCP's surfaces treated with PTFE were found to be hydrophobic with contact angle >120deg and relatively constant during 60 minutes measurement. Furthermore, water contact angle, density, and mechanical properties of CCP generally increase with increasing PTFE content. However, the porosity and electrical conductivity of CCP decrease slightly as the PTFE content increased from 0 wt% to 30 wt%. Based on the observation and analysis, the optimum PTFE content on CCP was 20 %, in which the mechanical properties and hydrophobicity behaviour were improved significantly, but it was only caused a very small drop in porosity and electrical conductivity

By screening through test, it was found that the drug-loaded chitosan microspheres with the average particle size of 615 nm may be prepared with NaF as the mold-proof drug, chitosan as the drug carrier and sodium tripolyphosphate as the cross-linking agent; and they can improve the aspergillus niger-proof effect if loaded onto the base paper surface of the paper-based PVC wallpaper. The results show that NaF and chitosan have mold-proof synergistic effects; the mold-proof effect of the wallpaper may be improved by increasing the dose of chitosan; when the mass ratio of NaF, sodium tripolyphosphate and chitosan was 2:7:28, the paper-based PVC wallpaper with good mold-proof property can be prepared.

Oleoresin of kaffir lime leaves distillation residue still contains some active compounds such as Citronellal, b-Citronellol, and Linalool which potential to incorporated on the active paper packaging. The purposes of this study were to determine the effect of kaffir lime leaves distillation residue oleoresin concentration on the physical characteristics, sensory characteristics, and antimicrobial activity of the active paper packaging incorporated with kaffir lime leaves distillation residue oleoresin and to determine the functional groups of active paper packaging. The concentration of kaffir lime leaves distillation residue oleoresin were varied at 0%, 2%, 4% and 6%. The result showed that the addition of kaffir lime leaves distillation residue oleoresin increased the thickness and moisture content of the paper and decreased the tensile strengths and folding endurances of active paper packaging. The microbial inhibition tends to increase along with the higher oleoresin concentration addition. Aromatic CH group were found at a wavelength of 897.90 cm-1 of on paper packaging with 2% oleoresin indicated as functional aromatic functional group allegedly obtained from the kaffir lime leaves oleoresin.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of active paper placement methods on super red dragon fruits quality during storage at ambient temperature. The active papers were incorporated with oleoresin of cinnamon leaf distillation residues. Various active paper placement methods were applied such as wrapping, placed on the cardboard wall, placed cardboard pad, and scrap of paper on the sidelines. Weight loss, peel color, surface and flesh hardness, total titratable acid, soluble solid total, pH flesh fruit, and total plate count (TPC) of super red dragon fruits samples were investigated during 9 days storage. The result shows that active paper placement methods significantly affected the weight loss, surface firmness and color peel change of super red dragon fruits samples. However, active paper placement methods insignificantly affected the titrable acid total, soluble solid total, pH, flesh firmness and microbial spoilage of super red dragon fruits samples. The best method to maintain the super red dragon fruits quality was wrapping method.

The cigarette paper industry is one of the industry that is always experiencing increasing demand from consumers. Consumer expectations for the products produced also increased both in terms of quality and quantity. The company continuously improves the quality of its products by trying to minimize nonconformity, waste and improve the efficiency of the whole production process of the company. In this cigarette industry, there is a disability whose value is above the company's defect tolerance that is 10% of the production amount per month. Another problem also occurs in the production time is too long due to the many activities that are not value added (non value added activities) on the production floor. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to improve the production process of cigarette paper and minimize production time by reducing non value added activities. Repairs done with Lean Six Sigma. Lean Six Sigma is a combination of Lean and Six Sigma concept with DMAIC method (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control). With this Lean approach, obtained total production time of 1479.13 minutes proposal with cycle efficiency process increased by 12.64%.

Chinese traditional praying paper industry is an industry which produced Chinese traditional religion praying paper. This kind of industry is rarely examined since it was only in Small and Medium Enterprise (SME's- form). This industry produced various kinds of Chinese traditional paper products. The purpose of this research is to increase the amount of production, reduce waiting time and moving time, and reduce material handling cost. The research was conducted at prime production activities, consists of: calculate the capacity of the material handler, the frequency of movement, cost of material handling, and total cost of material handling. This displacement condition leads to an ineffective and inefficient production process. The alternative was developed using production judgment and aisle standard. Based on the observation results, it is possible to reduce displacement in the production. Using alternative which by-passed displacement from a rolled paper in the temporary warehouse to cutting and printing workstation, it can reduce material handling cost from 2.26 million rupiahs to 2.00 million rupiahs only for each batch of production. This result leads to increasing of production quantity, reducing waiting and moving time about 10% from the current condition.

Current chromatography methods used for radiochemical purity test of 131I-Hippuran is time consuming. Therefore, in this study we explored several static and mobile phases in order to have a chromatography method which is accurate and efficient or less time consuming. In this study, stationary phases (Whatman-1, 31ET, and 3MM papers) and several mobile phases were explored to separate 131I-Hippuran from its impurity (131I iodide ion). The results of this study showed that the most efficient chromatography system for measurement of radiochemical purity of 131I-Hippuran was by using Whatman-31ET paper and n-butanol: acetic acid: water (4:1:1) as a static phase and mobile phase respectively. Developing time for this method was of approximately 75.7 +- 2.7 minutes. The result of radiochemical purity (%RCP) of 131I-Hippuran measured with this chromatography system either using Whatman-1 or Whatman-31ET paper strips was 98.7%. The short size of Whatman-31ET paper strip (1 x 8 cm) was found to have shorter developing time compared to that of long size paper. This system showed a good separation of 131I-Hippuran from its impurities and gave %RCP of 98.1% +- 0.04% with developing time approximately 44.3 +- 9.4 minutes. The short size of Whatman-31ET paper strips was found to be more efficient compared to that of Whatman-1 and Whatman-3MM paper strips in term of developing time.

Ceramic paper products are mostly used as high temperature ceramic insulation products. They offer an effective solution for most demanding heat management and insulation applications. The objective for this research project was to create a ceramic paper like product that combines the advantages of paper fibers, ceramic filler, and a clay product into one product, which can be produced on a continuous base with a paper machine. The produced ceramic paper product had a ceramic filler level between 59.68% and 78.8% with a basis weight between 322.9 g/m2 and 693.7 g/m2, and a final moisture content of 58.6% to 44.7% respectively. The wooden fiber served as a support medium for the ceramic filler material during production on the paper machine and during the conversion process into art pieces. During firing in a kiln, the fiber material combusted and the ceramic filler material mixture acts as common pottery clay, holding the desired shape of the art pieces produced.

In the paper, existing research and operating experience was summarized. On the basis, the particularity of oil-paper insulation operation condition for converter transformer was combined for studying the influence of temperature on oil-paper insulation field intensity distribution of converter transformers under different AC contents within wide temperature scope (-40degC[?]105degC). The law of temperature gradients on space charge accumulation was analyzed. The breakdown or flashover characteristics of typical oil-paper compound insulation structure under the action of DC, AC and AC-DC superposition voltage at different temperatures were explored. The design principles of converter transformer oil-paper insulation structures in alpine region was proposed. The principle was adjusted and optimized properly according to the operation temperature scope and withstood AC-DC proportion. The reliability of transformer operation was improved on the one hand, and the insulating medium can be rationally utilized for reducing the manufacturing cost of the transformer on the other hand.

The breakdown characteristics of oil-paper insulation in AC, DC and compound field at different temperatures were studied. The breakdown mechanism of oil-paper insulation at different temperatures and in AC and DC electric fields was analyzed. The breakdown characteristic mechanisms of the oil-paper insulation in the compound field at different temperatures were obtained: the dielectric strength of oil-paper compound insulation is changed gradually from dependence on oil dielectric strength to dependence on paperboard dielectric strength at low temperature. The dielectric strength of oil-paper compound insulation is always related to the oil dielectric strength closely at high temperature with decrease of AC content.

In order to contrastively investigate optical properties of graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) paper, GO is prepared by improved Hummer method and controlled reduced using hydration hydrazine to obtain good dispersive rGO in organic solvent. Finally, GO and rGO paper are obtained by vacuum filtration method. Samples morphology and optical properties are analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, Raman spectra, absorbance spectra and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. Results indicate that there are large numbers of localized states in both GO and rGO paper, and optical gaps of two samples are 0.62 eV. In PL spectra of GO paper, we observe three emission peaks at 565, 578 and 608 nm, respectively whose intensity decreases evidently after reduced, which is due to the decrease of oxide functionalized groups and expansion of sp2 clusters. PL emission will gradually decrease during GO are reduced.

In the paper, the electric field change in transformer oil and oil-impregnated insulation paperboard within wide temperature range (20degC~100degC) was studied. The influence law of temperature on oil-paper insulation electric fields was summarized. Oil-paper insulation electric field distribution under the action of different wave-form voltages was simulated for analysis. The electric field distribution condition during moisture balance steady state and transient state was obtained. The reasons of electric field distribution change were analyzed.

A preparation technology of ultra-thin Carbon-fiber paper is reported. Carbon fiber distribution homogeneity has a great influence on the properties of ultra-thin Carbon-fiber paper. In this paper, a self-developed homogeneity analysis system is introduced to assist users to evaluate the distribution homogeneity of Carbon fiber among two or more two-value images of carbon-fiber paper. A relative-uniformity factor W/H is introduced. The experimental results show that the smaller the W/H factor, the higher uniformity of the distribution of Carbon fiber is. The new uniformity-evaluation method provides a practical and reliable tool for analyzing homogeneity of materials.

A This paper presents a various literatures, studies, transcripts and papers aiming to provide an overview of some theories and existing research on the significance of natural environments and green open spaces to achieve social interaction and outdoor recreation. The main objective of the paper is to identify the factors that affecting social interaction in green open spaces, through proving that an appropriate open spaces is important to enhance social interaction and community. This study employs (qualitative) summarizing content analysis method which mainly focused on collect and summarizing of documentation such as transcripts, articles, papers, and books from more than 25 source, regarding the importance of public open spaces for the community. The summarizing content analysis of this paper is the fundament for a qualitative oriented procedure of text interpretation used to analyse the information gathered. Results of this study confirms that sound social interaction need an appropriate physical space including criteria of: design, activities, access and linkage, administration and maintenance, place attachment and users' characteristics, also previous studies in this area have a health perspective with measures of physical activity of open spaces in general.

The paper manufacturing companies are facing challenges to implement sustainable manufacturing into their products and processes. Paper manufacturing has remarked as an intensive consumer of natural raw materials, energy and a major source of multiple pollutants. Thus, evaluating the sustainable manufacturing in these companies has become a necessity. This paper proposes a set of Performance Indicators (PIs) for evaluating the sustainable manufacturing appropriate to the paper manufacturing companies based on the triple bottom line of sustainability. The Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), a multi-criteria decision analysis method is applied to prioritize the performance indicators by summarizing the opinions of stakeholders. It is hoped that the proposed PIs enables and assists the paper manufacturing companies to achieve the higher performance in sustainable manufacturing and so as to increase their competitiveness.

With the application of battery becoming more and more widely in our life, the importance of battery production with high quality has been increasingly emphasized. Battery separator is one of the important factors that affect the performance of the battery, so the high functions separator production is particularly important. This article preliminary investigates the effect of pulp types, composition and beating degree on the performances of separator. Main research work:Beating softwood pulp, hardwood pulp and dissolving pulp for different degree by PFI, and papermaking, then detecting the physical properties of paper sheets. Through comprehensive analysis conclude that softwood pulp, hardwood pulp and dissolving pulp have excellent physical properties in the 40deg SR, and thermal stability up to 200deg in the process of heat treatment. The paper sheets are made using different ratio of softwood pulp, hardwood pulp and dissolving pulp, then test the physical properties. According to the comprehensive analysis of experimental datum obtained that the sheets made using mixed pulp (40deg SR dissolving pulp: 40deg SR softwood =5:5) have excellent physical performance, and sheet strength index decreased slightly at 200degC, compared to other ratios.

This paper presents the study of breakdown characteristic of Kraft paper insulated with two different types of insulating fluid, which are Palm oil and Coconut oil. Palm oil and Coconut oil are chosen as the alternative fluid to the transformer oil because it has high potential and environmentally-friendly. The Segezha Kraft papers with various thicknesses (65.5 gsm, 75 gsm, 85gsm, 90 gsm) have been used in this research. High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC), High Voltage Alternating Current (HVAC) and carbon track and severity analysis is conducted to observe the sample of aging Kraft paper. These samples have been immersed using Palm oil and Coconut oil up to 90 days to observe the absorption rate. All samples started to reach saturation level at 70 days of immersion. HVDC and HVAC breakdown experiments have been done after the samples had reached the saturation level based on normal condition, immersed in Palm oil and immersed in Coconut oil. All samples immersed in liquid show different breakdown voltage reading compared to normal condition. The analysis of carbon track and severity on surface has been done using Analytical Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Analysis. The results of the experiment show that the sample of Kraft paper immersed in Palm oil was better than Coconut oil immersed sample. Therefore the sample condition was the main factor that determines the value of breakdown voltage test. Introduction

A preliminary test was conducted to investigate the characteristics of linerboard and corrugated medium paper made from durian rind waste. Naturally dried durian rinds were pulped according to Soda-Anthraquinone (Soda-AQ) pulping process with a condition of 20% active alkali, 0.1% AQ, 7:1 liquor to material ratio, 120 minutes cooking time and 170degC cooking temperature. The linerboard and corrugated medium paper with a basis weight of 120 gsm were prepared and evaluated according to Malaysian International Organization for Standardization (MS ISO) and Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI). The results indicate that the characteristics of durian rind linerboard are comparable with other wood or non-wood based paper and current commercial paper. However, low CMT value for corrugated medium and water absorptiveness quality for linerboard could be improved in future. Based on the bulk density (0.672 g/cm3), burst index (3.12 kPa.m2/g) and RCT (2.00 N.m2/g), the durian rind has shown a good potential and suitable as an alternative raw material source for linerboard industry.

Good combination of pulping variables is required to obtain the quality pulp and paper characteristics. Thus, in this preliminary work, naturally dried durian rind were pulped under Soda-Anthraquinone (Soda-AQ) pulping process with 18% to 22% alkali charge, 0% to 0.1% Anthraquinone (AQ) charge, 90 minutes to 150 minutes of cooking time and 150degC to 170degC to investigate the effect of pulping variables on the characteristics of the pulp and paper. Pulping condition with 0% of AQ charge was also conducted for comparison. Results indicated that the best screen yield percentage, reject yield percentage, freeness, drainage time, tear index, number of folds and optical properties were shown by the pulp produced with combination of the highest active alkali (22%), AQ charge (0.1%), cooking time (150 minutes) and cooking temperature (170degC) except apparent density, tensile index and burst index. This preliminary result shows that the optimum quality of durian rind pulp as a potential papermaking raw material pulp could be produced by selecting the good combination of pulping variables which influences the pulp and paper characteristics.

In order to study the influence of temperature on the frequency domain spectroscopy (FDS) of the oil-paper insulation system, the 72.5kV bushing test model was fabricated according to the actual size, and the FDS of the bushing was tested at different temperatures. According to the test curves of the dielectric constant at different temperatures, the influence of temperature on FDS is analysed, and then the extended Debye equivalent circuit model is used to fit the FDS test curves at different temperatures. The characteristic parameters that could be used to characterize the temperature characteristics are extracted, and the relationship between the characteristic parameters and the temperature is established. The results show that dielectric constant tend to move in the high frequency with the increase of temperature. The parameters of the equivalent circuit model are sensitive to the temperature, the insulation resistance Rg and the maximum time constant branch parameter R1 show the exponential function with the temperature, the minimum time constant branch parameter R3 and the temperature show a power function relationship, so the variation of characteristic parameters can be applied to evaluate the influence of temperature on the FDS of the oil-paper insulation bushing.

In the past two decades, nocellulose is widely as a renewable source for various industrial applications. Nanocellulose in the form of nanocrystalline (NCC) or nanofibrillated (NFC) has many applications, mainly in enhancing the mechanical strength of composite materials, or as precursors for supercapacitors, aerogel, hydrogel and membrane fabrication processes. In this study, microbial hydrolysis combined with shear mechanical treatment was used as an alternative method to produce nanocellulose. Commercial cellulase enzyme from Trichoderma reesei(ATCC 26921) was used to hydrolyse bleached soda cellulose from Macaranga, a tropical pioneer forest species. The enzymatic hydrolysis was followed by enzyme deactivation, purification, homogenization and sonication. Resulting nanocellose was added at 1%, 2.5%, 5% and 10% loading into 60+-3 gsm laboratory handsheets prepared according to TAPPI T205 method. The handsheets were tested for physical, mechanical and optical properties based on TAPPI T220 method. Results, among others, showed that the addition of nanocellulose up to 10% can reduce the air permeability of paper by 50%. This indicates the potential applications in food and pharmaceutical packaging in which degradation due to bacterial activities can be reduced and product shelf life can be prolonged.

A rotating mechanical components in machineries like bearings, gears, pulleys, belt drives etc. are major components in any rotating machinery. The failure of these components leads to downtime of machines and reduction in production. Significant economic losses will be caused due to an unexpected failure of these components. Belt drives are widely employed in various industrial equipment. Finding the early fault symptoms in the belt drive is very important. This can be achieved by various methods. For detecting faults and monitoring the condition of a belt drive, the vibration signal can be used as one of the parameter. Thus, vibration signal can be used as a procedure for predictive maintenance and it is used for machinery maintenance decisions. The changes in vibration signals due to fault can be detected by employing signal processing methods. It can be used to evaluate the health status of the machinery. The nature and severity of the problem can be determined by analysing the vibration signal and hence the failure can be predicted. Signature of the fault in the machine is carried by the vibration signal. It is possible to have early fault detection by analysing these vibration signals. Different signal processing techniques are used for processing these signals. The various techniques used for fault diagnosis based on vibration analysis method are discussed in this paper. The application of the artificial intelligence techniques such as Artificial Neural Network (ANN), fuzzy sets and other emerging technologies are discussed.

Shrimp is a type of perishable food. This study developed a simple indicator label using colorimetric method for monitoring shrimp freshness. This indicator label was made from natural dye extract of Ruellia simplex flowers which immobilized on cellulose paper by dip coating method. The indicator labels were used for examining freshness of shrimp. In this experiment, shrimp were stored in sealed bottles that have been labeled using the indicator and stored at 13 degC, 25 degC, and 40 degC for a certain range of time. Color changes of the indicator labels were observed using digital photography after shrimp storage for 0 h, 2 h, 17 h and 24 h. The color changes that occur were quantified and analyzed using the ImageJ program. The color of the indicator label when detecting the fresh shrimp was pink and after the shrimp spoilage began, the color of the label changed to purple and then became yellow when the shrimp is badly spoilage. The color change rates of label indicator increases as the shrimp storage temperature increased. These results indicate that this label indicator can be used as an indicator of the freshness of shrimps and it is not toxic and safe for food.

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD) is one of the ergonomic risks due to manual activity, non-neutral posture and repetitive motion. The purpose of this study is to measure risk and implement ergonomic interventions to reduce the risk of MSD on the paper pallet assembly work station. Measurements to work posture are done by Ovako Working Posture Analysis (OWAS) methods and Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method, while the measurement of work repetitiveness was using Strain Index (SI) method. Assembly processes operators are identified has the highest risk level. OWAS score, Strain Index, and REBA values are 4, 20.25, and 11. Ergonomic improvements are needed to reduce that level of risk. Proposed improvements will be developed using the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method applied with Axiomatic House of Quality (AHOQ) and Morphological Chart. As the result, risk level based on OWAS score & REBA score turn out from 4 & 11 to be 1 & 2. Biomechanics analysis of the operator also shows the decreasing values for L4-L5 moment, compression, joint shear, and joint moment strength.

The large quantities of waste sludge produced by the pulp and paper industry present significant environmental challenges. In order to minimize the amounts of waste, the pulp sludge should be utilized for productive applications. In order to find feasible solutions, the sludge need to be characterized. In this study, the potential of using acid pretreatment and ashing method to determine the chemical compositions of the sludge is investigated. This study shows that acid pretreatment could be used to dissolve and determine the composition of CaCO3 in the pulp sludge. CaCO3 removal also facilitates the measurement of fiber and ash (clay) contents by using the ashing method. The optimum acid concentration used to completely dissolve CaCO3 was determined using a titration method. Using this method, the measurement of the chemical composition of the sludge sample revealed that it consisted primarily of CaCO3 (55% w/w), clay (25%, w/w), and fibers (18%, w/w). Based on these chemical compositions, potential utilization for the sludge could be determined.

Low-velocity impact tests of unfilled and foam-filled Kraft paper honeycomb are carried out to investigate the effect of foam, indenter size and location of indentation on maximum or peak force and energy absorption capability. In this study, three indenter sizes (10mm, 12mm, 15mm) and three different locations of indentation (vertical edge, double wall and single wall) were used and compared. The test results show that the foam is given a significant increment of peak force and specific energy absorption to the honeycomb structure subjected to indentation load. The peak force and energy absorption capability also effected by indenter size which due to the contact area of indentation. As for the location of indentation, vertical edge gives highest peak force and energy absorption by the fact that vertical edge is the intersection of three walls of honeycomb cell.

In this study, determine of spray droplets size (SMD) using water sensitive paper (WSP) at low fluid pressure with deflector nozzle or tangential flow nozzle model Delavan AL75 and New Design Nozzle with two different type of swirl (ND2.5 A1.0 & ND2.5 B1.0). These three deflected flat sprays have used at different liquid mixing ratio. These liquid mixture ratios are pure water, 10% of lime juice + 90% of water (L10W90) and 30% of lime juice + 70% of water (L30W70). WSP is used to collect the spray droplets from nozzles. The operational liquid pressure of each nozzle is 3 bar, while air operational pressures are 3 bar and 6 bar. Then, the WSP were scanned using scanner then it was analyzed using ImageJ software. ImageJ can be used for determining the diameter of droplets size on the WSP. As the results from an experiment, the AL75 nozzle recorded the lowest Sauter mean diameter which is 193.69um at 6 bar of pressurized air while ND2.5 A1.0 recorded the highest Sauter mean diameter which is 353.61um at 3 bar of pressurized air. Summary from the experiment shows that the higher of droplet size is because of the lower air pressure (3 Bar). Then, increasing of liquid viscosity also increase the SMD. The orifice diameter for New Design nozzle (ND-2.5) is smaller than AL75, which are 2.5mm and 2.8mm respectively. The different nozzle design also gives effect the SMD. WSP is an alternative method to determine SMD for spray droplets with the low cost if compared to Phase Doppler Anemometry (PDA).

Bamboo cropping period is quite short compared to wood, but fiber and bamboo pulp have not been optimally used as a substitute for wood in composite industry, such as fiber board. It is worth to be investigated because of the availability of wood is declining. Therefore, this research aimed at revealing the use of fiber and bamboo pulp (G. apus) for fiberboard. The study was conducted using bamboo fibers from bamboo strips cooked with soda process and bamboo pulp from chips of bamboo cooked with soda process and Kraft process. Composite of bamboo fiber is made with a variety of fiber weight fraction to the epoxy resin matrix. Furthermore composite of bamboo pulp is made under optimal condition for making fiber composite. Based on the test results, it is known that the quality of the bamboo fiber composite from bamboo strips cooked with soda process is better than the composite of bamboo pulp. Besides, the produced bamboo fiber composites can be categorized as the high-density fiberboard meanwhile for the aspect of water content, water absorption, length and thickness changes, flexural strength and modulus of elasticity are in accordance with applicable standard for fiberboard (SNI 01-4449 - 2006).

The building must be maintained to keep it in optimal operation in giving service and it is vital and also it can be influenced towards the building performance. Therefore, immediately after construction of the building project is completed, maintenance start to set in. The conducive environment that provided for the buildings will give a good performance and significant impact. Therefore, building maintenance is crucial in making sure the buildings can deliver a good service or function, but in certain reason building maintenance and repair activities that were not performed when they should have been will be deferred. Deferred maintenance occurs because there is no efficiency in managing building maintenance. Deferred maintenance has become a pressing issue in many countries and have adverse effects to the organization (stakeholders and users). Hence, this study is intended to provide definitions, issues and challenges of deferred maintenance of the buildings.

CaCO3 and wood pulp were added in base-sheet. And the effects on the permeability, physical properties, smoke index and microstructures were researched. The results indicated that: 1) With the increase of CaCO3 adding rate, wood pulp addition rate was 6%, the bulk thickness and air permeability of base-sheet increased slightly, while the tensile index and tear index of base-sheet decreased gradually. 2) Base-sheet permeability analysed showed that CaCO3 on the surface of base-sheet was conducive to the formation of more pores, the liquid infiltration from the surface of the base-sheet to the interior, the permeability and liquid absorption properties of the base-sheet were improved. 3) Add 50% calcium carbonate, the CO, TPM and deliveries of tar in mainstream smoke of base-sheet decreased by 17.25%, 19.51% and 18.75%, respectively.

Copper sulfate salts were embedded on multipurpose paper using simple soaking technique while copper oxide particles were embedded using in-situ technique. In simple soaking technique, the papers were simply soaked in copper sulfate solution in order for the copper salts to be incorporated in the paper. In the in-situ technique, the copper sulfate-embedded papers were soaked in sodium hydroxide solution for reactions to occur that will lead to the formation of copper oxide. Copper sulfate-embedded papers have blue green color while copper oxide-embedded papers have brown color. The copper sulfate-embedded paper shows excellent antimicrobial property against Staphylococcus aureus. Meanwhile, the copper oxide-embedded paper shows small zone of inhibition against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

Zinc oxide-embedded kapok (Ceiba pentandra) papers with antimicrobial property were fabricated. Fabrication of papers from kapok fibers was done using chloroform and sodium chlorite treatments. Meanwhile, embedding of zinc oxide particles on the fabricated kapok papers was done using an in situ method. The said method involved soaking the paper in zinc acetate and sodium hydroxide solutions. The method also involved heat treatment of the sample to fasten the formation of zinc oxide particles. X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement shows the presence of synthesized ZnO particles on the cellulose fibers while scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed the flake-like morphology of the embedded ZnO particles. Agar diffusion test shows that the samples have higher antimicrobial effect against Staphylococcus aureus than Escherichia coli.

We report the preparation, reduction and characterization of GO paper that obtained by assembly of individual GO sheets. The free standing GO paper was prepared from 4 mg/ml GO dispersed in water, and following by evaporation of water and then detach from the petri dish. In order to obtained graphene-like film, the free-standing GO film then thermally reduced by heating the samples at 250degC at varied heating time. Characteristic and properties of the thermally reduced GO paper was measured by means of infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and EDS.
