Summary: Backpacks carried by suicide bombers exploded on three London subway cars on July 7, 2005, and a fourth bomb went off on a double-decker bus, altogether killing 56 people including the bombers. Police said the perpetrators were British Muslims; al Qaeda later claimed it was behind the attacks. A trial in 2007 of another set of terrorist plotters revealed that authorities had been monitoring the perpetrators of the July 7, 2995, events before the attacks, but had concentrated on a different, albeit related, group that was subsequently convicted of plotting a different string of attacks..
