<>Retrieving remote sensing images plays a key role in RS fields, which activates researchers to design a highly effective extraction method of image high-level features. However, despite the advanced features of the image can be extracted by deep-learning method, features fail to cover the overall information due to its rich and complex background. Extract key regions from RS images, recede background interference and retrieval accuracy needs to be solved. Combined YOLOv5 target recognition algorithm with deep-learning method, this paper proposes a novel retrieval method based on target critical region detection. Firstly, the key retrieval regions have been identified. YOLOv5 target recognition algorithm has been used to identify the key regions of the image and served as the retrieval regions. Secondly, the retrieval characteristics are determined. Combining with the CNN model ResNet50, the retrieval features are extracted from the retrieval regions acquired in the previous step, in addition, PCA method has been used to reduce the dimension of the retrieval features. Finally, using weighted distance based on class probability to measure the similarity between a query and retrieve images. Experimental results show that the proposed method can extract better image retrieval features and improve the retrieval performance of RS image.<>

Using the social determinants of health (SDOH) framework, the current study aimed to examine opioid literacy and the role of SDOH on opioid literacy. This study used a cross-sectional survey design to collect self-reported data from people living in four rural Alabama counties affected by the opioid crisis. Participants reported moderate levels of opioid knowledge. There were no significant predictors of general knowledge. For opioid overdose knowledge, the strongest individual predictors were educational level (Bachelor's degree) and self-rated financial strain, which contributed to higher scale scores. For the models evaluating opioid overdose response knowledge, the strongest individual predictors were minority status (inverse), self-rated mental health, and interpersonal safety. Our findings indicate that SDOH, such as financial strain and interpersonal safety, are significantly linked to opioid literacy. Educational efforts to enhance opioid literacy, proper usage, and management in rural counties should consider SDOH factors. Findings further outline the team's integrative approach to developing intervention strategies for opioid treatment and recovery that can benefit the northwest Alabama community and beyond. This study compared the effects of an increasing-intensity (UP) and a decreasing-intensity (DOWN) resistance training protocol on affective responses across six training sessions. Novice participants (Mage 43.5 ± 13.7 years) were randomly assigned to UP (n = 18) or DOWN (n = 17) resistance training groups. Linear mixed-effects models showed that the evolution of affective valence within each training session was significantly moderated by the group (b = −0.45, p ≤ .001), with participants in the UP group reporting a decline in pleasure during each session (b = −0.82) and the DOWN group reporting an improvement (b = 0.97; ps b = 0.57, p = .004). These findings indicate that a pattern of decreasing intensity throughout a resistance exercise session can elicit more positive affective responses and retrospective affective evaluations of resistance training.

Purpose: To establish and validate the accuracy of implantable collamer lens (ICL) vault size prediction formula based on preoperative biometric factors and lens parameters. Methods: This study included 300 patients (300 eyes) with Visian ICL V4c (STAAR Surgical) implantation. They were randomly divided into the formula establishment group and formula validation group. Anterior segment measurements, ICL V4c size and power, and vault 1 week postoperatively were collected from all patients. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to establish the prediction formula. Mean absolute error (MAE), median absolute error (MedAE), root mean square error (RMSE), and Bland-Altman diagrams were used to evaluate the prediction formula. Results: Anterior chamber depth (ACD) had the greatest influence on vault 1 week after ICL V4c implantation, followed by ICL V4c size and angle-to-angle distance (ATA). The prediction formula was obtained according to the partial regression coefficient, which was vault (mm) = −1.279 + 0.291 × ACD (mm) + 0.210 × ICL V4c size (mm) – 0.144 × ATA (mm) ( R 2 = 0.661). In the formula validation group, the mean predictive vault, MAE, MedAE, and RMSE were 628.10, 135.09, 130.42, and 150.46 µm, respectively. The Bland-Altman diagram showed the predictive vault was in good agreement with the actual vault. Conclusions: A novel ICL V4c vault prediction formula was developed and shown to be an effective method for predicting the vault to reduce surgical complications. We report the discovery of one of the largest ancient (>3.0 Ga) crustal terranes on Earth. Granitoids with crystallization ages >3.0 Ga and/or Sm-Nd depleted mantle model ages ≥3.2 Ga define a ~1000 × 100 km belt on the western margin of the Rae craton, Canada, referred to herein as the Perry River terrane (PRT). Zircon U-Pb-Hf-O isotope and whole-rock geochemical data from granitoids show that the PRT is a predominantly juvenile 3.3–3.2 Ga terrane that was partially reworked by more evolved ca. 3.1 Ga magmatism. These findings call for a reassessment of the timing and extent of ancient continental growth on Earth. A global compilation of zircon Hf isotope data from 3.6 to 3.0 Ga igneous rocks reveals clusters of relatively juvenile (initial εHf −2 to +3) rocks at ca. 3.31 and ca. 3.23 Ga, which include samples from the PRT and 13 other terranes worldwide. Other global zircon data sets also document age peaks between 3.3 and 3.2 Ga, and a cluster of broadly chondritic initial εHf values around 3.2 Ga. The 3.3–3.2 Ga period may therefore have been a time of enhanced net continental growth on Earth, and the PRT is one of the largest terranes preserved from that time. Furthermore, zircon Hf isotope data from 3.3–3.1 Ga PRT granitoids and 3.5–3.0 Ga igneous rocks worldwide yield little evidence for parent magmas that interacted with or derived from pre–3.6 Ga continental material. Contrary to some continental-growth models, this latter observation suggests that the volume of continental crust established by 3.6 Ga was relatively small.

Cities are very complex systems. Representing urban regions are essential for exploring, understanding, and predicting properties and features of cities. The enrichment of multi-modal urban big data has provided opportunities for researchers to enhance urban region embedding. However, existing works failed to develop an integrated pipeline that fully utilizes effective and informative data sources within geographic units. In this article, we regard a geo-tile as a geographic unit and propose a multi-modal and multi-stage representation learning framework, namely Geo-Tile2Vec, for urban analytics, especially for urban region properties identification. Specifically, in the early stage, geo-tile embeddings are firstly inferred through dynamic mobility events which are combinations of point-of-interest (POI) data and trajectory data by a Word2Vec-like model and metric learning. Then, in the latter stage, we use static street-level imagery to further enrich the embedding information by metric learning. Lastly, the framework learns distributed geo-tile embeddings for the given multi-modal data. We conduct experiments on real-world urban datasets. Four downstream tasks, i.e., main POI category classification task, main land use category classification task, restaurant average price regression task, and firm number regression task, are adopted for validating the effectiveness of the proposed framework in representing geo-tiles. Our proposed framework can significantly improve the performances of all downstream tasks. In addition, we also demonstrate that geo-tiles with similar urban region properties are geometrically closer in the vector space.

We defined preoperative anemia as the last hemoglobin measurement level before surgery < 130 g/L for men and < 120 g/L for women. The primary outcome was a composite of in-hospital major complications, including pneumonia, respiratory failure, gastrointestinal bleeding, urinary tract infection, incision infection, deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, angina pectoris, arrhythmia, myocardial infarction, heart failure, stroke, and death. Secondary outcomes were cardiovascular events, infection, pneumonia, and death. We used multivariate negative binomial or logistic regression to evaluate the impact of anemia and its severity, categorized as mild (90– 130 g/L for men, 90– 120 g/L for women) or moderate-to-severe (< 90 g/L for both) anemia on outcomes.Results: Of the 3540 included patients, 1960 had preoperative anemia. 188 anemic patients experienced 324 major complications, while 63 non-anemic patients had 94 major complications. The risk of major complications was 165.3 (95% CI, 149.5– 182.4) and 59.5 (95% CI, 48.9– 72.3) per 1000 persons in anemic and non-anemic patients, respectively. Anemic patients were more likely to have major complications than non-anemic patients (adjusted incidence rate ratio (aIRR), 1.87; 95% CI, 1.30– 2.72), which was consistent in mild (aIRR, 1.77; 95% CI, 1.22– 2.59) and moderate-to-severe (aIRR, 2.97; 95% CI, 1.65– 5.38) anemia. Preoperative anemia also increased the risk of cardiovascular events (aIRR, 1.96; 95% CI, 1.29– 3.01), infection (aIRR, 1.68; 95% CI, 1.01– 2.86), pneumonia (adjusted odds ratio (aOR), 1.91; 95% CI, 1.06– 3.57), and death (aOR, 3.17; 95% CI, 1.06– 11.89).Conclusion: Our findings suggest that even mild preoperative anemia is associated with major postoperative complications in hip fracture patients. This finding highlights considering preoperative anemia as a risk factor in surgical decision-making for high-risk patients.Keywords: anemia, hip fracture, postoperative complications, risk factor

Objectives The primary goal of the current study was to investigate the effect of melittin on colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods The viability of cancer cells was tested using the MTT assay, and the apoptosis of tumour cells was assayed using Annexin V/PI staining in vitro or TUNEL staining in vivo. The in vivo toxicity and efficacy of melittin were assessed in a xenograft mouse model. Results Melittin inhibited the viability of CRC cell lines and induced apoptosis in SW480 cells by regulating apoptosis-related proteins. Melittin triggered endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and caused an imbalance in calcium homeostasis in SW480 cells. An absence of melittin triggered ER stress via the calcium chelating agent BAPTA/AM, and the IP3R inhibitor 2-aminoethoxydiphenyl borate (2-APB) impaired melittin-induced apoptosis in SW480 cells. Melittin treatment suppressed tumour growth but did not affect the body weight of SW480 tumour-bearing mice. Unlike cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil, melittin treatment did not change the biochemical and haematological parameters of the tumour-bearing mice. Finally, in these mice, melittin treatment induced ER stress, which was then blocked by BAPTA/AM, whilst 2-APB impaired the growth inhibitory effect of melittin. Conclusion Melittin treatment inhibits CRC progression by inducing ER stress and an imbalance in calcium homeostasis.

Blocking the dopamine D2 receptor is a key link in anti-psychiatric disease. Knockdown of miR-143 improved neurological behavioral damage by regulating the D2 receptor signaling pathway. The risk of neurological behavior damage can be increased 20 times by 1–2 lacunar infarction lesions. Based on the fact that miR-143 can target and regulate the D2 receptor signaling pathway, this study focused on analyzing the inhibitory effect of GC-miR-143 inhibitor nanoparticles on neurological behavior damage in lacunar infarction. 60 SD rats were separated into sham operation, model, vehicle, vehicle+inhibitor, inhibitor, or D2 agonist group (n = 10). The vascular dementia (VD) model was made by ligating bilateral common carotid arteries. Morris water maze assessed rats behavioral changes. Quantitative Real-Time Reverse Transcription PCR (QRT-PCR) was applied to detect levels of miRNA-143. Proteins were extracted from the prefrontal cortex, and immunoblotting was performed to measure the downstream of signal proteins of Neuregulin 1 (NRG1) and D2 receptor signaling pathways, p-protein kinase B (AKT) and p-Glycogen Synthase Kinase 3β (GSK3β). On days 1 to 5 of the water maze experiment, the escape latency for the five groups of rats were longer than in sham group; while escape latency for vehicle+inhibitor group and inhibitor group was shorter. Compared to VD model rats, vehicle+inhibitor group and inhibitor group had significantly reduced escape latency. Cross-platform time number for five groups was decreased and it was increased in vehicle+inhibitor group and inhibitor group with decreased number for D2 agonist group w. Compared with D2 agonist group, the vehicle+inhibitor group and inhibitor group showed more cross-platform times. Compared to sham operation group, levels of NRG1, p-AKT/GSK3β in remaining five groups were significantly decreased. Their levels in vector+inhibition group and inhibitor group were dramatically up-regulated, and levels of the above-mentioned proteins in D2 agonist group were significantly decreased. Their levels in vector+inhibitor group and inhibitor group were up-regulated relative to D2 agonist group. The GC-miR-143 inhibitor nanoparticles can up-regulate the expression of NRG1 and antagonize the D2 receptor to weaken the inhibitory effect of D2 receptor-mediated signaling pathways and inhibit neurological behavioral damage in lacunar cerebral infarction.

Triterpenoids are a class of natural products widely used in fields related to medicine and health due to their biological activities such as hepatoprotection, anti-inflammation, anti-viral, and anti-tumor. With the advancement in biotechnology, microorganisms have been used as cell factories to produce diverse natural products. Despite the significant progress that has been made in the construction of microbial cell factories for the heterogeneous biosynthesis of triterpenoids, the industrial production of triterpenoids employing microorganisms has been stymied due to the shortage of efficient enzymes as well as the low expression and low catalytic activity of heterologous proteins in microbes. Protein engineering has been demonstrated as an effective way for improving the specificity, catalytic activity, and stability of the enzyme, which can be employed to overcome these challenges. This review summarizes the current progress in the studies of Oxidosqualene cyclases (OSCs), cytochrome P450s (P450s), and UDP-glycosyltransferases (UGTs), the key enzymes in the triterpenoids synthetic pathway. The main obstacles restricting the efficient catalysis of these key enzymes are analyzed, the applications of protein engineering for the three key enzymes in the microbial synthesis of triterpenoids are systematically reviewed, and the challenges and prospects of protein engineering are also discussed.

Aim. To elaborate on the relationship between work engagement, perceived organizational support, and the turnover intention of nurses by analysing some potential moderators. Background. Nurses’ turnover intention is negatively impacted by their level of work engagement and perceptions of organizational support. However, it is challenging to reach a consistent conclusion. Methods. Data were acquired from six electronic databases. Each study was evaluated using the quality assessment tool for cross-sectional studies of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). STATA 15.0 was used to analyse the data, and a random effects model was used. The groups that included two or more studies were added to the moderator analysis. Results. A total of 40 study articles involving 23,451 participants were included. The turnover intention of nurses was inversely associated with work engagement (coefficient: −0.42) and perceived organizational support (coefficient: −0.32). A substantial moderating role was played by cultural background, economic status, working years, and investigation time ( P < 0.05 ). Conclusion. Work engagement and organizational support significantly reduced turnover intention among nurses. Considering the acute shortage of nurses worldwide, nurses with lower wages, fewer working years, and lower levels of work engagement should be given more attention and support from their organizations. Implications for Nursing Management. The meta-analysis suggested that managers should give their employees a more organizational support and promote their work engagement to motivate nurses’ retention intention and maintain a stable workforce with little employee turnover.

The Evolutionary Map of the Universe (EMU) large-area radio continuum survey will detect tens of millions of radio galaxies, giving an opportunity for the detection of previously unknown classes of objects. To maximize the scientific value and make new discoveries, the analysis of these data will need to go beyond simple visual inspection. We propose the coarse-grained complexity, a simple scalar quantity relating to the minimum description length of an image that can be used to identify unusual structures. The complexity can be computed without reference to the broader sample or existing catalogue data, making the computation efficient on new surveys at very large scales (such as the full EMU survey). We apply our coarse-grained complexity measure to data from the EMU Pilot Survey to detect and confirm anomalous objects in this data set and produce an anomaly catalogue. Rather than work with existing catalogue data using a specific source detection algorithm, we perform a blind scan of the area, computing the complexity using a sliding square aperture. The effectiveness of the complexity measure for identifying anomalous objects is evaluated using crowd-sourced labels generated via the Zooniverse.org platform. We find that the complexity scan identifies unusual sources, such as odd radio circles, by partitioning on complexity. We achieve partitions where 5 per cent of the data is estimated to be 86 per cent complete, and 0.5 per cent is estimated to be 94 per cent pure, with respect to anomalies and use this to produce an anomaly catalogue.

Background. Diabetic microvascular complications are the main causes of organ dysfunction and even death in diabetic patients. Our previous studies confirmed the beneficial effects of Yiqi Jiedu Huayu Decoction (YJHD) on diabetic cardiomyopathy and diabetic nephropathy. It is not clear whether YJHD can treat multiple diabetic microvascular complications including diabetic retinopathy, diabetic cardiomyopathy, and diabetic nephropathy through some common mechanisms. Methods. TCMSP, SymMap, STITCH, Swiss Target Prediction, and SEA databases were used to collect and analyze the components and targets of YJHD. GeneCards, DrugBank, DisGeNET, OMIM, and GEO databases were used to obtain target genes for diabetic retinopathy, diabetic cardiomyopathy, and diabetic nephropathy. The GO and KEGG enrichment analyses were performed on the DAVID and STRING platforms. Molecular docking was used to evaluate the binding sites and affinities of compounds and target proteins. Animal experiments were designed to validate the network pharmacology results. Results. Through network pharmacological analysis, oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and apoptosis were identified as key pathological phenotypes for the treatment of diabetic microvascular complications with YJHD. In addition, JNK, p38, and ERK1/2 were predicted as key targets of YJHD in regulating the abovementioned pathological phenotypes. The results of animal experiments showed that YJHD could ameliorate retinal pathological changes of diabetes rats. YJHD can inhibit oxidative stress and inflammation in heart and kidney of diabetic rats. Molecular docking showed strong binding between compounds and JNK, p38, and ERK1/2. Berlambine may play a key role in the treatment process and is considered as a promising regulator of MAPK protein family. The regulatory effects of YJHD on JNK, p38, and ERK1/2 were demonstrated in animal experiments. Conclusions. YJHD may play a therapeutic role in diabetic microvascular complications by regulating oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and apoptosis. The regulation of JNK, p38, and ERK1/2 phosphorylation may be the key to its therapeutic effect.

Lupus nephritis (LN) is one of the most common clinical manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), causing death and disability. The current research study explored whether there was any improvement effect on LN after emodin administration. Network pharmacology was used to screen the target genes of emodin for the treatment of LN. LPS and IL-4 were employed for RAW264.7 macrophage M1/M2 polarization induction, and 0.1% HgCl2 was used for the LN rat model’s establishment. Flow cytometry was performed to detect the effect of 20, 40, and 80 µM emodin on RAW264.7 macrophage polarization. HE and PAS staining were subsequently conducted to detect 70 mg/kg emodin action on renal injury in LN rats. The effect of emodin on the content of urinary proteins and dsDNA antibodies was also determined. The results indicated that peroxisome proliferators-activated receptors gamma (PPARG) may be a target gene of emodin in LN, and emodin had no significant toxicity to macrophages at different concentrations. Compared with the control, emodin significantly inhibited LPS-induced polarization in M1 macrophages and improved that of IL-4-induced M2 macrophages. Besides, emodin alleviated kidney injury and markedly reduced the levels of urinary protein and dsDNA antibodies in rats. Moreover, after targeting interference with the PPARG expression, the improvement effect of emodin on LN is significantly reduced, indicating that emodin may relieve the symptoms of LN by activating the PPARG expression. Our study revealed that PPARG may be applied as a new therapy for LN.

The rapid expansion of the aquaculture industry is accompanied by high organic and nutrient loadings from formulated feeds. This leads to water deterioration and pathogenic microorganisms. Natural biota (e.g., bacteria, phytoplankton, zooplankton, and zoobenthos) in ponds form important parts of cultured aquatic animals’ diets. They contain essential proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, amino acids, and fatty acids and are considered promising supplementary nutrition sources for cultured aquatic animals. Particularly, they are available to aquatic animals throughout the day, and an adequate supply of them as starter foods during the larvae stage ensures high survival. Since formulated feeds constitute more than 50% of aquaculture production costs, optimizing the utilization of natural biota and reducing dietary nutrient input without compromising animals’ growth should be a priority to improve the economic success and sustainability of aquaculture. From this scenario, the present review offers an updated view of the natural biota category in aquaculture systems, their nutritional components, and their contributions to the growth of cultured aquatic animals. Taken together, this review emphasizes the significant roles of natural biota playing in the growth of aquatic animals and encourages maximizing utilization of natural biota to improve feed conversion efficiency and aquaculture sustainability.

BACKGROUND: Internet-cognitive behavioural therapy (iCBT) for depression can include multiple components. This study explored depressive symptom improvement prognostic factors (PFs) and effect modifiers (EMs) for five common iCBT components including behavioural activation, cognitive restructuring, problem solving, self-monitoring, and assertion training. METHODS: We used data from a factorial trial of iCBT for subthreshold depression among Japanese university students (N=1093). The primary outcome was the change in PHQ-9 scores at 8weeks from baseline. Interactions between each component and various baseline characteristics were estimated using a mixed-effects model for repeated measures. We calculated multiplicity-adjusted p-values at 5% false discovery rate using the Benjamini-Hochberg procedure. Inflammation, anxiety, and depression have been associated with each other, but the relationship has not been examined in subjects with psoriasis. The primary objective was to investigate the relationship between the C-reactive protein (CRP) and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and depression among patients with psoriasis.Methods: In this case-control, cross-sectional study, 239 individuals with psoriasis and 142 with healthy controls (HCs) were recruited. Psychological as well as clinical, and laboratory data were collected.Results: 50.2% of subjects with psoriasis reported depressive symptoms, compared with 26.8% of HCs. 39.7% and 17.6% observed anxiety symptoms in psoriasis patients and HCs. The odds of anxiety (AOR= 3.123; 95% CI = 1.851– 5.269) and depression (AOR= 2.698; 95% CI = 1.690– 4.306) were higher in psoriasis patients relative to HCs. Furthermore, the elevated CRP (AOR =2.139; 95% CI = 1.249– 3.663) and ESR (AOR =1.827; 95% CI = 1.078– 3.096) were the risk factors of depression in patients with psoriasis. The threshold for distinguish psoriasis patients in depression was 3.24 (area under the curve [AUC], 0.605; sensitivity, 0.57; specificity, 0.64) for CRP and 26.5 (AUC, 0.632; sensitivity, 0.52; specificity, 0.73) for ESR.Conclusion: A substantial prevalence of anxiety and depression symptoms was observed in Chinese psoriasis subjects, and the odds were much higher in psoriasis patients relative to HCs. The elevated CRP and ESR level was significantly associated with depression in psoriasis patients. Flexible sensors have attracted increasing attention owing to their important applications in human activity monitoring, medical diagnosis, and human-machine interaction. Herein, a simple and cost-effective strategy is reported by immersing polyurethane (PU) sponge in graphene oxide solution followed by in situ chemical reduction to construct a reduced graphene oxide (RGO)-wrapped PU sponge sensor. Despite the well-established benefits of regular physical activity (PA) on health, a large proportion of the population does not achieve the recommended level of regular PA. Although affective experiences toward PA may play a key role to foster a sustained engagement in PA, they have been largely overlooked and crudely measured in the existing literature. To address this shortcoming, the Affective Exercise Experiences (AFFEXX) questionnaire has been developed to measure such experiences. Specifically, this questionnaire is intended to capture three domains: antecedent appraisals (e.g., liking vs. disliking exercise in groups), core affective exercise experiences (i.e., pleasure vs. displeasure, energy vs. tiredness, and calmness vs. tension), and exercise motivation (i.e., attraction vs. antipathy toward exercise). The current study aimed to validate a Chinese version of the AFFEXX questionnaire (AFFEXX-C). In study 1, 722 Chinese college students provided data for analyses of factorial, convergent, discriminant, criterion validity, and test-retest reliability of the AFFEXX-C. In addition, 1,300 college students were recruited in study 2 to further validate its structural model. Results showed that the AFFEXX-C demonstrates a good fit and reliability. Additionally, results further supported the hypothesized model based on previous research: antecedent appraisals predicted core affective exercise experiences, which in turn predicted attraction-antipathy toward exercise. The AFFEXX-C was found to be a reliable and valid measure of affective exercise experiences in a population of Chinese college students.

Tendon injuries are often accompanied by damage to the surrounding soft tissue and muscle ligaments, resulting in a loss of muscle strength, flexibility, and other functions in the lower limbs. At present, non-surgical treatment and surgical treatment are mainly used clinically. However, non-surgical treatment may lead to loss of tendon drift and sliding, and ultimately lower ankle movement and function. Surgical treatment may cause risks such as infection and nerve damage. Extracellular vesicles are various types of membrane vesicles secreted by cells, which are rich in a variety of bioactive substances, and are characterized by low immunogenicity, strong tissue penetration and so on. It is a mediator of intercellular communication that plays an important role in tissue regeneration, transmitting information to recipient cells by paracrine effects and affecting various cellular functions. In this review, we summarize the mechanisms of MSC-derived EVs and platelet-derived EVs in tendon repair, providing new directions for the future treatment of tendon repair, and further advancing the study of EVs in sports medicine.

The effect of surface charge on phagocytosis was further assessed using THP-1 macrophages.Results: When Nano-UCAs were incubated with human serum, they were opsonized by various blood proteins, especially C3. Highly charged Nano-UCAs, whether positive or negative, were favorably opsonized by complement proteins and phagocytized by macrophages.Conclusion: Charged Nano-UCAs show a higher tendency to activated complement system, and are efficiently engulfed by macrophages. Interfacial nanofilms with nonlinear optical (NLO) properties were prepared via confined dynamic condensation of 4,4'-methylenedianiline (MDA) with the synthesized 2,3-bis(4-(bis(4-formylphenyl)amino)phenyl)fumaronitrile (BTFA). Investigated using the open-aperture Z-scan technique, BTFA showed reverse saturable absorption ascribed to the synergetic mechanisms of two-photon and excited-state absorption. In contrast, the as-prepared nanofilms demonstrated broadband saturable absorption within the spectral range of 720∼1700 nm. The characteristics of nonlinear absorption coefficient (β) decreased along with increasing the incident pulse intensity. Taking advantage of the flexibility and post-machinability properties, the folding layers of the nanofilms offered the feasibility to fine-tune the specific NLO responses. The optimal β value was found to be -10.1 cm/MW for eight-layer nanofilm as well as the normalized transmittance increased up to 35-fold at 800 nm. BackgroundInternet-based cognitive-behavioural therapy (iCBT) is effective for subthreshold depression. However, which skills provided in iCBT packages are more effective than others is unclear. Such knowledge can inform construction of more effective and efficient iCBT programmes.ObjectiveTo examine the efficacy of five components of iCBT for subthreshold depression.MethodsWe conducted an factorial trial using a smartphone app, randomly allocating presence or absence of five iCBT skills including self-monitoring, behavioural activation (BA), cognitive restructuring (CR), assertiveness training (AT) and problem-solving. Participants were university students with subthreshold depression. The primary outcome was the change on the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) from baseline to week 8. Secondary outcomes included changes in CBT skills.FindingsWe randomised a total of 1093 participants. In all groups, participants had a significant PHQ-9 reduction from baseline to week 8. Depression reduction was not significantly different between presence or absence of any component, with corresponding standardised mean differences (negative values indicate specific efficacy in favour of the component) ranging between −0.04 (95% CI −0.16 to 0.08) for BA and 0.06 (95% CI −0.06 to 0.18) for AT. Specific CBT skill improvements were noted for CR and AT but not for the others.ConclusionsThere was significant reduction in depression for all participants regardless of the presence and absence of the examined iCBT components.Clinical implicationWe cannot yet make evidence-based recommendations for specific iCBT components. We suggest that future iCBT optimisation research should scrutinise the amount and structure of components to examine.Trial registration numberUMINCTR-000031307.

Staphylococcus arlettae is a rarely reported coagulase-negative staphylococcus (CoNS) isolated from infected humans and livestock. Observing phage-bacteria interaction could improve the understanding of bacterial pathogenetic mechanisms, providing foundational evidence for phage therapy or phage detection. Herein, we aimed to characterise and annotate a novel bacteriophage, vB_SarS_BM31 (BM31), specific to S. arlettae. This bacteriophage was isolated from a milk sample associated with bovine mastitis and collected in the Sichuan Province, China.The BM31 genome comprised a linear double-stranded DNA of 42,271 base pair in length with a G + C content of 34.59%. A total of 65 open reading frames (ORFs) were assembled from phage DNA, of which 29 were functionally annotated. These functional genes were divided into four modules: the structural, DNA packing and replication, lysis, and lysogeny modules. Holin (ORF25), lysin (ORF26), and integrase (ORF28) were located closely in the entire BM31 genome and were important for lyse or lysogeny cycle of BM31. The phage was identified as a temperate phage according to whole genome analysis and life cycle assay, with basic biological characteristics such as small burst size, short latency period, and narrow host range, consistent with the characteristics of the family Siphoviridae, subcluster B14 of the Staphylococcus bacteriophage.The present isolation and characterisation of BM31 contributes to the Staphylococcus bacteriophage database and provides a theoretical foundation for its potential applications. To the best of our knowledge, BM31 is the only shared and completely reported phage against S. arlettae in the entire public database.

Mandibular keloids and hypertrophic scars can exert significant effects on the appearance of a patient. However, current treatments are not effective in all cases. Consequently, it is vital to identify a safe and effective treatment method.To investigate the therapeutic effect of the mini-punch technique combined with photodynamic therapy (PDT) on mandibular keloids and hypertrophic scars.Twenty patients with mandibular keloids and hypertrophic scars were enrolled, including 5 cases of keloids and 15 cases of hypertrophic scars, with a total of 40 lesions. The mini-punch technique was performed first, and then, PDT was conducted, once a week on 3 occasions in total.After 12 months of follow-up, 30 lesions had improved by more than 50%, thus achieving a good therapeutic effect. The Vancouver Scar Scale score of patients ranged between 8 and 12 points with a mean of 9.60 ± 1.09 points before surgery and between 2 and 9 points with a mean of 4.15 ± 2.05 points at 12 months after surgery. The mean Vancouver Scar Scale score after treatment was significantly lower than that before treatment (t = 11.80, p.001).A combination of the mini-punch technique and PDT is an effective treatment for mandibular keloids and hypertrophic scars.
