In this research project, we plan to explore whether a sentence context affects comprehension-based language control. The novelty of this study lies in the focus on language perception instead of production to study language control. Few studies have investigated language control in a sentence versus a single word context, and those that have exclusively focused on language production. However, little to no studies have asked the question of whether a sentence context might change language control during language comprehension. Here, we plan to combine the insights of the field of production with novel methodologies developed in the field of comprehension to increase our understanding of the phenomenon of language control. This project contains two experiments, the first one was run & analysed prior to pre-registration. Preliminary results (with frequentist linear mixed models instead of Bayesian) were presented at the ESCoP conference (September 2022, Lille).
