BACKGROUND: Most street children studied in lower- and middle-income African countries are without family links. However, the majority of street children are children on the street, living with families during the night and spending their day-time on the streets. The health of this majority group is poorly captured in the literature despite the growing epidemic of child streetism. AIM: To explore the health of children on the street of Ibadan using multiple qualitative studies. SETTING: A street in each of the five urban local government areas of Ibadan Oyo State, Nigeria. METHODS: Participants comprising of children on the street, parental figures, street shop owners and child-welfare officers were purposively selected and interviewed. Interviews were audio recorded, transcribed, and thematically analyzed RESULTS: Using triangulated data from 53 interviews, the study found that the children on the streets of Ibadan experienced many health challenges. Outstanding are poor carbohydrate-based diet, open defaecation with consequent infections, physical injuries and few deaths from road traffic accidents. Sexual, verbal and substance abuse were common although few children acquired resilience to adversity. The children had poor health-seeking behaviour and resorted to patent medicine dealers or tradomedical practitioners on the streets. CONCLUSION: This study bridged some gaps in the literature regarding the health of children on the streets in Nigeria. The straddling of children between the family and street has cumulative health consequences as depicted in this study. CONTRIBUTION: This research can inform family-level intervention and primary health care plans to forestall the health challenges of children on the streets

Background Adolescents should have access to high quality and responsive sexual and reproductive health, however, it is unclear to what extent the national policy on health and development of adolescent is implemented by health care workers in Plateau State. This study assessed the general availability of sexual and reproductive health services, the delivery of responsive adolescent sexual and reproductive health services and health care worker?s understanding of what constitutes adolescent responsive sexual and reproductive health services. Methods Using a cross sectional design, we interviewed 409 health care workers selected through a multistage sampling technique, across six Local Government Areas of Plateau State, Nigeria using an interviewer-administered survey questionnaire. Results The most available sexual and reproductive health services was antenatal and delivery care (69.2%), contraception 25.9% and 14.9% reported post abortion care. Only 1.2% indicated the availability of the four recommended essential sexual and reproductive health services (counselling/information provision, provision of contraceptives, testing/treatment for sexually transmitted infection (STI) /HIV and post abortion care) in their facilities. Little over half (58.4%) felt their facilities were adequate in meeting the sexual and reproductive health needs of adolescent and this was associated with delivery of post abortion care (AOR=3.612; CI=1.886-6.917; p = .001) and providing sexual and reproductive health services to adolescents without parental consent (AOR=3.612; CI=1.886-6.917; p = .001). Most health care workers had poor understanding of adolescent responsiveness of sexual and reproductive health services, understanding better among health workers who provided services without parental consent and in a separate room for privacy and confidentiality. Conclusion We conclude that adolescent sexual and reproductive health services is not yet as stipulated in the national policy in Plateau State, Nigeria and in general, health workers have poor understanding of what it means to provide adolescent-responsive services.

Individuals with Intellectual Disability (ID) value romantic and sexual expression, however often face barriers to developing relationships. Family caregivers play a significant role in supporting them with such matters throughout adulthood. In order to understand how to best support individuals with ID in this sphere of their lives, it is therefore essential to investigate family caregivers’ perceptions, influences and experiences. This study explored the views and experiences of nine mothers of adult individuals with mild and moderate ID in relation to their children’s romantic and sexual lives. Data was collected using semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Findings suggested that mothers held positive, but sometimes ambivalent, attitudes towards their children’s romantic and sexual lives. They assumed the dual role of a facilitator and a protector, and although they generally expressed a commitment to supporting romantic experiences, they viewed sexual experiences with caution due to fears relating to vulnerability and risk. In the context of vulnerability, although most participants described their children’s sexual knowledge as poor, they reported lack of preventative sexual or contraceptive education delivered at home. Participants hoped that their children would manage a long-term relationship, however also experienced a sense of loss related to the realization that this might not be possible. The findings of this study highlight the need to help mothers to proactively support their adult children in building sexual knowledge. This, in turn, can reduce individuals’ vulnerability and improve their ability to make informed choices. Suggestions for future research are also discussed.

Background Adolescents in low-and-middle-income countries like Zambia face a high burden of sexual, reproductive, health and rights problems including coerced sex, teenage pregnancies, and early marriages. The Zambia government through the Ministry of Education has integrated comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) in the education and school system to contribute towards addressing adolescent sexual, reproductive, health and rights (ASRHR) problems. This paper sought to explore teachers and community based health workers (CBHWs) experiences in addressing ASRHR problems in rural health systems in Zambia. Methodology The study was conducted under the Research Initiative to Support the Empowerment of Girls (RISE) community randomized trial that aimed to measure the effectiveness of economic and community interventions in reducing early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and school dropout in Zambia. We conducted 21 qualitative in-depth interviews with teachers and CBHWs involved in the implementation of CSE in communities. Thematic analysis was used to analyse teachers and CBHWs´ roles, challenges, and opportunities in promoting ASRHR services. Results The study identified teachers and CBHWs roles, and challenges experienced in promoting ASRHR and suggested strategies to enhance delivery of the intervention. The role of teachers and CBHWs in addressing ASRHR problems included mobilizing the community for meetings, providing SRHR counseling services to both adolescents and guardians, and strengthening referrals to SRHR services if needed. The challenges experienced included stigmatization associated with difficult experiences such as sexual abuse and pregnancy, shyness among girls to participate when discussing SRHR in the presence of the boys and myths about contraception. The suggested strategies for addressing the challenges included creating safe spaces for adolescents to discuss SRHR issues and engaging adolescents in coming up with the solution. Conclusion This study provides significant insight on the important roles that teachers and CBHWs can play in addressing adolescents SRHR related problems. Overall, the study emphasizes the need to fully engage adolescents in addressing adolescent SRHR problems.

Background & Aims of the Study: Women’s health including, the sexual dimension is the basis of family’s and community’s health. Due to the lack of research on women’s sexual health, investigations seem necessary in this area. The present research aimed to study factors affecting women’s sexual health. Materials and Methods: This was qualitative research. The required data were collected using in-depth individual interviews. The statistical population consisted of married women under the age of 50 years residing in Qom City, Iran. Twenty married women were selected by the purposive sampling method and data were obtained until reaching saturation. Results: Our findings indicated that sexual disorders, anal intercourse, neglecting sexual foreplay, environmental conditions, body image, pudency, and feeling guilty during intercourse degraded sexual health according to the interviewed women. According to this qualitative research data, the most common dysfunction reported by the interviewed women was anorgasmia. Conclusion: In the present qualitative study, the factors affecting the sexual health of housewives were identified. Paying attention to these characteristics in designing appropriate interventions is suggested by health authorities in the country.

The aim of the article is to analyze the social and legal support of women in Ukraine living with HIV, and to identify features that need to be taken into account when working with this category of people. To achieve this goal, the article uses research methods such as analysis, synthesis, monitoring, statistical processing of information, and analysis of literature, legal documents.Results: The article highlights the relevance of the problem of HIV / AIDS nowadays, as the final real statistics do not exist due to the fact that many carriers of the virus and patients are not tested. It is important to solve this problem to conduct informational and educational campaigns to promote voluntary testing, counseling on treatment, social support at the legislative level and prevention of infection.The article also considers the mechanisms of virus transmission (sexual, parenteral and vertical). The individual approach to the prevention, detection and treatment of HIV / AIDS is described, as well as the impact of urban processes on the spread of this problem and increase new cases of infection among men compared to women. Parenteral transmission of infection predominates among men, and sexual transmission predominates among women. Discrimination against women compared to men in terms of receiving the necessary assistance and realizing the full potential of HIV / AIDS is noted. This confirms the existence of social stereotypes that shape the overall picture of gender relations in Ukraine, although the level of legislation guarantees the availability and quality of all types of assistance to both men and women equally.The facts concerning HIV-infected women have been identified, namely: numerous discrimination and violations of the rights of women with HIV-positive status; receiving ARV therapy by women with HIV-positive status; access of women living with HIV to assisted reproductive technologies; social services for women with HIV-positive status. All of them must be reflected in Ukrainian legislation.A review of regulations and other documents on the rights and opportunities of HIV-positive women in Ukraine was conducted. National and international documents are analyzed and systematized. The information was summarized and grouped by different positions, which allowed to identify certain features that need to be taken into account when working with HIV-positive women, as well as to conclude that there is insufficient experience in implementing a gender-based approach in developing and approving Ukrainian legislation., Метою статті є аналіз соціально-правової підтримки жінок в Україні, які живуть з ВІЛ, та визначення особливостей, які необхідно враховувати в ході роботи з даною категорією осіб. Для досягнення поставленої мети у статті використано методи наукового дослідження такі, як аналіз, синтез, моніторинг, статистична обробка інформації, аналіз літератури, нормативно-правових документів тощо. Одержані результати: У статті висвітлено аналіз нормативно-правових актів та інших документів на предмет прав та можливостей ВІЛ-позитивних жінок в Україні.

Purpose This study aimed to establish the functional impact of displacement of urogenital organs after abdominoperineal resection (APR) using validated questionnaires. Methods Patients who underwent APR for primary or recurrent rectal cancer (2001–2018) with evaluable pre- and postoperative radiological imaging and completed urinary (UDI-6, IIQ-7) and sexual questionnaires (male, IIEF; female, FSFI, FSDS-R) were included from 16 centers. Absolute displacement of the internal urethral orifice, posterior bladder wall, distal end of the prostatic urethra, and cervix were correlated to urogenital function by calculating Spearman’s Rho (ρ). Median function scores were compared between minimal or substantial displacement using median split. Results There were 89 male and 36 female patients included, of whom 45 and 19 were sexually active after surgery. Absolute displacement of the internal urethral orifice and posterior bladder wall was not correlated with UDI-6 in men (ρ = 0.119 and ρ = 0.022) nor in women (ρ = − 0.098 and ρ = − 0.154). In men with minimal and substantial displacement of the internal urethral orifice, median UDI-6 scores were 10 (IQR 0–22) and 17 (IQR 5–21), respectively, with corresponding scores of 25 (IQR 10–46) and 21 (IQR 16–36) in women. Displacement of the cervix and FSDS-R were correlated (ρ = 0.433) in sexually active patients. Conclusion This first analysis on functional impact of urogenital organ displacement after APR suggests that more displacement of the cervix might be associated with worse sexual function, while the data does not indicate any potential functional impact of bladder displacement. Studies are needed to further explore this underexposed topic.

This project describes the seventh in a series of empirical research studies conducted by the lead author for his PhD, which explores male sexual aggression at UK universities. Study 7 extends a previously pre-registered study associated with this project (“Study 3”; https://osf.io/n73wy/) by using a broader sample to examine whether male university students in the UK who self-report recent sexual aggression can be classified into meaningful subgroups based on their responses to key psychological and demographic variables associated with their risk of sexual assault perpetration.

This project describes the second and third in a series of empirical research studies conducted by the lead author for his PhD, which explores male sexual aggression at UK universities. Study 2 empirically assesses the prevalence and psychological risk factors associated with the past sexual aggression of male students across UK universities and is a follow-up to "Study 1" (https://osf.io/4ht8m/). [ES] Las interacciones sociales, en este nuevo siglo XXI se desarrollan a través de mecanismos totalmente diferentes a los del siglo pasado. Hoy en día, con las facilidades que nos ofrecen los móviles, podemos encontrar numerosas aplicaciones que nos permiten conocer a gente, ya sea para encuentros esporádicos o para tener relaciones a largo plazo. Debido a la utilización de estas aplicaciones, la ¿democratización¿ de los medios digitales y al desarrollo de Internet como espacio expositivo, la fotografía, más concretamente el autorretrato, ha adquirido una nueva dimensión dentro de un espacio virtual donde se nos presentan nuevos paradigmas en relación con la historia de la imagen y el autorretrato. Este trabajo trata de profundizar en la importancia que adquiere el autorretrato con las nuevas interacciones sociológicas que propician las aplicaciones de contactos. Esto me lleva a la realización de una serie de cuadros combinando la xilografía junto con la serigrafía, así como también un cuadro pictórico, plasmando de forma alegórica estás cuestiones. Para profundizar en dicho tema de estudio analizaremos la aplicación de Grindr que afecta a la identidad como individuo. Este trabajo de final de grado intenta abordar estos acontecimientos para relacionarlos con el hecho artístico a través de la creación de una serie de 7 cuadros con un total de 12 xilografías, 2 serigrafías y un cuadro pictórico de pequeño formato., [EN] Social interactions in this new century are developed through mechanisms totally different from those of the previous century. Nowadays, with the facilities that mobile phones offer us, we can find numerous APPs that allow us to meet people, either for sporadic encounters or to have long-term relationships. Due to the use of these applications, the "democratization" of digital media and the development of the Internet as an exhibition space, photography, more specifically the self-portrait, has acquired a new dimension within a virtual space where we are presented with new paradigms in relationship with the history of the image and the portrait. This work tries to delve into the relationship between the portrait and the new sociological interactions that contact applications foster. This will not lead to the realization of a series of woodcuts that plastically capture these questions. To delve into this topic of study, we will analyze specific applications such as Grindr that affect identity as an individual. This work tries to approach these events to relate them to the artistic fact through the creation of a series of six woodcuts.

Present research is focused on asesssing the attention bias towards the sexual pictures via the dot-probe task paradigm within the non-clinical student population.

Background: Pregnancy and birth complications experienced by adolescents are also problems of older women. But it is severe among the young due to physical immaturity and social condemnation from basic reproductive health services. The study was aimed to analyze determinants of adolescent childbearing in Ethiopia using the Ethiopian demographic and health survey. Method: The data source for this study was the 2016 demographic and health survey. Records of 359 cases and 1436 randomly selected controls (1:4 ratio) were included in the analysis. Adolescent childbearing was the main outcome variable and the independent variables were sociodemographic and sexual & reproductive factors. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with adolescent childbearing. Result: The mean age of girls at first cohabitation was 15.28 ±1.64 and the mean age of first birth was 16.47±1.35. Adolescent childbearing was found to be higher in the Afar region (34.8%), and the lowest was in Addis Ababa city (4.1%). Finding from the multivariable analysis showed that place of residence, survey time age, and age at first sexual intercourse were the factors that have an association with adolescent childbearing. Objective: to identify the multidisciplinary health team’s perception on aspects of the physical and emotional development of children and adolescents who have suffered sexual violence. Methods: a qualitative study, carried out with 30 health professionals in a hospital in Bahia, Brazil, between June and July 2019. Data were collected from an interview guided by a semi-structured questionnaire. The results were interpreted according to Symbolic Interactionism. Results: some sexually violated children were under five years old and healthy, others had physical/mental disabilities. Victimized adolescents were in the pre-pubertal phase, with fragile body structure, not emotionally mature and unaware of sexuality. Final considerations: children’s physical and emotional aspects make children vulnerable to sexual victimization, as they facilitate the control and dominion that offenders need to have over them. As a protection strategy, it is recommended using sexual and health education linked to greater surveillance of family members, multidisciplinary team and educators. RESUMEN Objetivo: identificar la percepción del equipo multiprofesional de salud sobre aspectos del desarrollo físico y emocional de niños y adolescentes que han sufrido violencia sexual. Métodos: estudio cualitativo, realizado con 30 profesionales de la salud en un hospital de Bahía, Brasil, entre junio y julio de 2019. Los datos fueron recolectados a partir de una entrevista guiada por un cuestionario semiestructurado. Los resultados fueron interpretados según la Teoría del Interaccionismo Simbólico. Resultados: algunos niños violados sexualmente tenían menos de cinco años y estaban sanos, otros tenían discapacidades físicas/mentales. Los adolescentes victimizados se encontraban en la fase prepuberal, con una estructura corporal frágil, no madura emocionalmente y desconociendo la sexualidad. Consideraciones finales: los aspectos físicos y emocionales de los niños, niñas y adolescentes hacen que los niños sean vulnerables a la victimización sexual, ya que facilitan el control y dominio que el agresor debe tener sobre ellos. Como estrategia de protección, se recomienda el uso de la educación sexual y en salud ligada a una mayor vigilancia de los familiares, del equipo multidisciplinario y de los educadores. RESUMO Objetivo: identificar a percepção da equipe multiprofissional de saúde sobre os aspectos do desenvolvimento físico e emocional de crianças e adolescentes que sofreram violência sexual. Métodos: estudo qualitativo, realizado com 30 profissionais de saúde em hospital da Bahia, Brasil, entre junho e julho de 2019. Os dados foram coletados a partir de entrevista norteada por questionário semiestruturado. Os resultados foram interpretados conforme o Interacionismo Simbólico. Resultados: algumas crianças violadas sexualmente tinham menos de cinco anos e aspecto saudável, outras portavam deficiências físicas/mentais. Adolescentes vitimizadas estavam em fase pré-púbere, com estrutura corporal frágil, pouco amadurecidas emocionalmente e desconheciam sobre sexualidade. Considerações finais: aspectos físicos e emocionais infantojuvenis vulnerabilizam crianças para a vitimização sexual, pois facilitam o controle e domínio que o agressor necessita ter sobre elas. Como estratégia de proteção, recomenda-se o uso da educação sexual e em saúde atreladas a maior vigilância de familiares, da equipe multiprofissional e educadores.

Patients often experience bothersome lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) that warrant urologic evaluation and management. Routinely, patients are initially treated with medical therapies with the goal of both relaxing the bladder neck and shrinking the prostate in order to relieve obstruction secondary to prostatic enlargement. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) serves as a first-line surgical intervention in those who fail medical therapy. Recently, novel minimally invasive surgical techniques for BPH management have emerged. Of these, prostatic urethral lift (PUL or Urolift) has gained attention given its presumed effectiveness and minimal risk of sexual side effects when compared to the standard TURP. Background Well-trained, competent, and motivated human resources for health (HRH) are crucial to delivering quality service provision across the sexual, reproductive, maternal, and newborn health (SRMNH) care continuum to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) maternal and neonatal health targets. This review aimed to identify HRH interventions to support lay and/or skilled personnel to improve SRMNH care quality along the continuum in low- and lower-middle-income countries (LLMICs). Methods A structured search of CINAHL, Cochrane Library/trials, EMBASE, PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and HRH Global Resource Centre databases was undertaken, guided by the PRISMA framework. The inclusion criteria sought to identify papers with a focus on 1. HRH management, leadership, partnership, finance, education, and/or policy interventions; 2. HRH interventions' impact on two or more quality SRMNH care packages across the continuum from preconception to pregnancy, intrapartum and postnatal care; 3. Skilled and/or lay personnel; and 4. Reported primary research in English from LLMICs. A deductive qualitative content analysis was employed using the World Health Organization-HRH action framework. Results Out of identified 2157 studies, 24 intervention studies were included in the review. Studies where ≥ 4 HRH interventions had been combined to target various healthcare system components, were more effective than those implementing ≤ 3 HRH interventions. In primary care, HRH interventions involving skilled and lay personnel were more productive than those involving either skilled or lay personnel alone. Results-based financing (RBF) and its policy improved the quality of targeted maternity services but had no impact on client satisfaction. Local budgeting, administration, and policy to deliver financial incentives to health workers and improve operational activities were more efficacious than donor-driven initiatives. Community-based recruitment, training, deployment, empowerment, supportive supervision, access to m-Health technology, and modest financial and non-financial incentives for community health workers (CHWs) improved the quality of care continuum. Skills-based, regular, short, focused, onsite, and clinical simulation, and/or mobile phone-assisted in-service training of skilled personnel were more productive than knowledge-based, irregular, and donor-funded training. Facility-based maternal and perinatal death reviews, coupled with training and certification of skilled personnel, positively affected SRMNH care quality across the continuum. Preconception care, an essential component of the SRMNH care continuum, lacks studies and services in LLMICs. Conclusions We recommend maternal and perinatal death audits in all health facilities; respectful, woman-centered care as a critical criterion of RBF initiatives; local administration of health worker allowances and incentives; and integration of CHWs into the healthcare system. There is an urgent need to include preconception care in the SRMNH care continuum and studies in LLMICs.

Lung cancer is one of the most frequent cancers in the world. The treatment has evolved in recent years, improving overall survival of the patients. Therefore, with the increase in life expectancy, it is increasingly important to focus on the patient's quality of life, and one of the central aspects evaluated in relation to quality of life is sexuality. So, this research aims to map what there is in the world literature regarding the impact that diagnosis and treatment have on sexuality in lung cancer patients.

In this article, I explore how faith and religion shaped the resilience of forced migrant women subjected to intersecting gender-based violence (GBV) and trafficking. Adopting a social constructivist perspective, I draw upon interviews with 11 Christian and 4 Muslim displaced survivors of 10 African nationalities temporarily residing in Tunisia. I first outline the experiences of intersecting violence to understand what displaced survivors were resilient to, and then describe faith pathways to resilience, sometimes with spiritual struggles and unmet religious needs. I delineate ways in which personal prayers and cooperating with God enabled all but one survivor to cope with exploitation and perilous journeys toward imagined refuge. I offer insights for practitioners working with forced migrants on the move and highlight the importance of spiritual support for displaced survivors who are religious. I discuss the findings and offer implications for future research and practice.

A temática do desejo e da sexualidade percorre a história da humanidade, desde a Grécia antiga até sua grande difusão nos debates médicos da modernidade, nos quais Sigmund Freud se insere de forma significativa. Pautada pela análise de discurso foucaultiana, esta revisão de literatura baseia-se em uma pesquisa documental, que busca delimitar as noções de sexual e de sexualidade que se apresentam na obra freudiana. Embora preliminares, os resultados dão a ver uma mudança de paradigma decorrente dos estudos de Freud com relação à noção de sexualidade, em contraste com a compreensão predominante do meio médico e cultural de sua época. Ao mesmo tempo, nota-se que as noções freudianas de sexual e de sexualidade foram se estabelecendo gradativamente em suas produções teóricas. Dessa forma, a sistematização das acepções desses termos na obra freudiana mostra-se fundamental, não apenas no domínio da ciência da psicanálise, mas também na prática em outras áreas como a saúde e a educação.

Background Sexual and reproductive health (SRH), a globally recognized fundamental health concern and a basic human right is poorly addressed and seldom researched in the Arab world. Disregarding this aspect of health creates various obstacles to accessing SRH related services and education. This threatens the health of a female, namely through increasing the probability of unplanned pregnancies and unsafe abortions, augmenting the risk of acquiring sexually transmitted infections, and most importantly, increasing the hazard of maternal and neonatal death. Thus, this study aimed to assess the level of SRH related knowledge and awareness among single unmarried women living in Lebanon. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional study design was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire in both English and Arabic languages. The questionnaire included 9 sections; socio-demographic characteristics section, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) section, premarital tests section, vaccines section, menstruation and its abnormalities section, pregnancy symptoms and identification section, methods of contraception section, vitamins section, and honeymoon events section. The questionnaire was distributed among all Lebanese governorates to 491 single unmarried women living in Lebanon aged between 17 and 55 years. Student t-test and Chi-Square test were used to analyze results. Results It was found that only 8.8% of all the participants had adequate knowledge. The highest level of SRH related knowledge was about pregnancy (88.0%), and the least was about contraception (13.5%). Most of the knowledgeable participants lived in Beirut governorate (13.6%, n = 8) and had reached universities (10.3%, n = 41), but this was not statistically significant (p-value > 0.05). The effect of a prior visit to a gynecologist was statistically non-significant on the overall level of knowledge (p-value = 0.269). Conclusion Due to the inadequate level of knowledge, SRH education campaigns empowered by the Ministry of Public Health in collaboration with primary care physicians and gynecologists, are recommended in both the societal and academic sectors to enhance the awareness level and make SRH knowledge readily available among unmarried women aged between 17 and 55. Knowing the massive role of social media nowadays, the messages they present should contribute to enhancing the level of SRH knowledge and redirect attitudes and behaviors of unmarried females in Lebanon.

The rate of sexually transmitted diseases is increasing globally. Thus, this study aimed to examine the Al akami female community’s knowledge about the nature of sexually transmitted diseases and their associated factors. The STDs-Knowledge Questionnaire (STDs-KQ) was utilized to collect data from the female community (355) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The data were analyzed using JMP Statistics for Windows, version 15. The significance level was set at 0.05. The study reported that participants had a relatively low understanding of STDs in acquisition, protection, prevention, and clinical signs and symptoms; only 33 (9%) had high knowledge scores (10–18), while 70% thought one virus caused all forms of STDs. Also, only 15% of the respondents knew the clinical features of the Chlamydia infection, and 18% identified the correct mode of its transmission. Also, older participants with clinical exposure had a higher knowledge score than young and single females, p < 0.05. A positive correlation between age and knowledge score was reported, r (354) = 0.339, p < 0.0001. The low knowledge scores were associated with marital status, age, and clinical exposure. Practical strategies to minimize literacy toward sexual education and increase the quality of sexual life must be promoted by educators and the academic curriculum

Among Australian females, sexual assault affects 1 in 5 Australian women [1], and 1 in 10 girls [2]. While it is well known that females who experience sexual assault have an increased risk of future pelvic pain, there is limited knowledge regarding the occurrence of other gynaecological morbidity. We performed systematic review and meta-analysis for the relationship between sexual assault and gynaecological morbidity. We searched online electronic databases for observational studies on the subject published between 1993 and 2018. Search terms included variants of ‘sexual abuse’, ‘sexual assault’ and a range of gynaecological morbidity. Two independent reviewers completed study selection, quality assessment and data extraction. For each gynaecological symptom we calculated common odds ratios and 95 % confidence intervals in relation to sexual abuse history. Our search identified 1846 studies, of which 38 studies were included. A history of sexual assault was significantly associated with overall gynaecological morbidity (RR 1.42; 95%CI, 1.27–1.59), pelvic pain (RR 1.60; 95%CI, 1.36–1.89), ‘dyspareunia’ (pooled RR 1.74, 95%CI, 1.50–2.02); ‘dysmenorrhea’ (pooled RR 1.20; 95%CI, 1.11–1.29); ‘abnormal menstrual bleeding’ (pooled RR 1.29; 95%CI, 1.12–1.49)) and ‘urinary incontinence’ (pooled RR 1.31; 95%CI, 1.12–1.53)), while association was not statistically significant for ‘vaginismus’(pooled RR 1.71; 95%CI, 0.87–3.36) and ‘vulvodynia’ (pooled RR 1.49; 95%CI, 0.76–2.91). There was no relation with ‘prolapse’ (pooled RR 1.10; 95%CI, 0.53–2.30). Females with a history of sexual assault have a significantly increased risk of different gynaecological disorders later in life.

Healthcare practitioners included physicians, nurses, allied healthcare professionals and pharmacists who reported being exposed to WPB in the past year. Study outcomes were the prevalence rate ratio of WPB and its associated factors, such as victim, perpetrator and incident characteristics.Results: WPB has been reported by 684 participants. Perpetrators were mainly patients (36.1%), their families/relatives (29.5%), and hospital staff (27.2%) or managers/supervisors (7.2%). The type of WPB incident was mostly verbal abuse (98.1%) followed by physical harassment (11.8%) and sexual connotations (5.8%). WPB was 30% more prevalent among younger nurses and 24% less prevalent among higher educated nurses compared to their counter groups, P< 0.001 each. Among technicians and administrative employees, WPB was 54% more prevalent among females, 36% more prevalent among the younger group, and 25% more prevalent among expatriate workers compared to their counter groups P< 0.014, P< 0.001 and P=0.017, respectively. WPB was 20% less prevalent among higher educated allied health professionals, P=0.002. Among physicians, WPB was 33% more prevalent among females, P=0.041 and was 47% more prevalent among higher educated physicians compared to their counter groups, P=0.018.Conclusion: WPB might occur any time, anywhere and by any person within health care facilities. The prevalence of WPB varies within health occupational groups. Anak merupakan mahluk ciptaan Tuhan Yang Maha Kuasa perlu dilindungi harga diri dan martabatnya serta dijamin hak hidupnya untuk tumbuh dan berkembang sesuai fitrah dan kodratnya. Segala bentuk perlakuan yang mengganggu dan merusak hak-hak dasarnya dalam berbagai bentuk pemanfaatan dan eksploitasi yang tidak berperikemanusiaan harus segera dihentikan tanpa terkecuali. Tujuan penelitian untuk menganalisa perbudakan seksual dimana anak sebagai korban dalam kejahatan perang, dan menganalisa pelaku dari hukum pidana internasional. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian Yuridis Normatif, dengan metode pendekatan Statuta dan menggunakan sumber data sekunder, dianalisa secara yuridis kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perbudakan seksual pada anak termasuk dalam kejahatan perang, bila dilakukan dalam kondisi konflik, dan kejahatan kemanusiaan bila dilakukan dalam kondisi damai. Kejahatan tersebut baik dalam kondisi perang ataupun damai termasuk dalam yurisdiksi International Criminal Court Pasal 5. Kejahatan perbudakan seksual sebagai kejahatan perang diatur dalam Statuta Roma 1998 Pasal 8. Hukum pidana internasional juga mengenal individual responsibility, dimana pelaku kejahatan perang baik komandan ataupun prajurit dapat diadili di Mahkamah Pidana Internasional sesuai dengan Pasal 28 sepanjang negara pelaku unwilling dan unable. ABSTRACTChildren are the creation of the almighty God. Their dignity need to be protected so we can guarantee their right to live in order for them grow in accordance with their nature of life. Every single conduct that harm and damage it’s fundamental right, in form of any evil utilization and exploitation that violate humanity has to be stopped as soon as possible with no exception. The research objective is to analyse sexual enslavement where the children as the victim in war crime and analyse the perpetrator from the international criminal law perspective. This research is using normative juridical method with statute approach and using secondary data sources analysed in qualitative juridical approach. The research result shows that children sexual enslavement is included as a war crime when conducted during conflict and included as crimes against humanity when conducted during tranquility. Children sexual enslavement either conducted during conflict or conducted during tranquility are all belong toward Article 5 International Criminal Court. Enslavement sexual as a war crime is regulated in Article 8, also recognize individual responsibility, where the war crimes perpetrator either the Commander or the Soldier are able to try before international criminal court inline with Article 28 as long as the perpetrator home country is unwilling and unable to perform it’s duty.

Gratifikasi adalah pemberian yang diberikan karena layanan atau manfaat yang diperoleh, disamping gratifikasi merupakan perluasan dari bentuk kejahatan suap, Adapun bentuk perluasan dari gratifikasi sendiri yakni gratifikasi seksual. Fenomena terkaiait gratifikasi seksual di Indonesia memang seperti fenomena gunung es, yaitu banyak kasus yang dipandang di dalamnya terdapat unsur gratifikasi seksual namun yang muncul dipermukaan hanya sedikit sehingga sangat perlu melihat bagaimana konsep pengaturan gratifikasi di Indonesia, pelaksanaan dan hambatannya. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode yuridis normatif (kepustakaan). Hasil dari penelitian ini di Indonesia gratifikasi seksual hanya diatur di dalam Pasal 12 B Undang-Undang Nomor 20 Tahun 2001 tentang Pemberantasan Tindak Pidana Korupsi dan yang menjadi faktor penghambat penegakan hukum gratifikasi seksual di Indonesia terletak pada pembuktian dan aturan hukum yang belum mengatur secara baik. ABSTRACTGratification is a gift given because of the service or benefit obtained, besides gratification is an extension of the form of the crime of bribery, the form of expansion of gratification itself is sexual gratification. The phenomenon related to sexual gratification in Indonesia is indeed like an iceberg phenomenon, that is, many cases are seen in which there are elements of sexual gratification but only a few appear on the surface so it is very necessary to see how the concept of regulating gratification in Indonesia, its implementation and obstacles. This research method uses a normative juridical method (library). The results of this study in Indonesia that sexual gratification is only regulated in Article 12 B of Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption and the inhibiting factor for law enforcement of sexual gratification in Indonesia lies in the evidence and legal rules that have not been properly regulated.

Представленные варианты решения вопроса снижения преступлений против половой свободы и неприкосновенности несовершеннолетних, требуют не только вмешательства в виде наказания, которое следует за деянием, но и заблаговременной профилактики правонарушений. This topic is relevant not only on the territory of the Russian Federation, but also in the world as a whole, while the problem has not yet been solved either by individual or joint forces of the countries. The presented options for solving the issue of reducing crimes against sexual freedom and the inviolability of minors require not only intervention that follows the act, but also early prevention. Sexual reproduction is the most frequent mode of reproduction in the animal and plant kingdoms. It requires the generation of specific gametes and specialized organs. During embryonic development, in vertebrates, the gonads develop from a common primordium. At about 6 weeks of development in humans and on the eleventh day of development in mice, depending on the presence of the SRY gene, the primordium acquires either an ovarian or a testicular fate. This is called gonadal sex determination. The gonads will then follow a specific transcriptional program allowing their differentiation into ovaries or testicles. The gonadal sex will then determine the primary sexual characteristics of the individual which are the internal and external genitalia. Then, at puberty, the steroid hormones produced by the gonads will lead to the acquisition of secondary sexual characteristics and will make the individual enter its reproductive life period. Sexual determination therefore requires that two organs with different morphologies and functions can develop from the same primordium, and that only one of the two destinies is retained and maintained according to the genetic sex of the individual. This is a unique phenomenon in developmental biology that requires the establishment of sex-specific genetic programs with three major functions. First, to allow the development and differentiation of the cell lineages present in the gonad according to the adopted fate. Second, to antagonize the genetic program of the opposite sex. Third, to maintain the gonadal sex throughout the life of the individual. However, there are still many grey areas. For example, we do not know exactly what populations are present in the gonad during development and what influences they might have on each other. Similarly, the origins of steroidogenic cells in the gonad are only incompletely described, and the transcriptomic mechanisms of germ cell sex determination are imperfectly described and subject to debate. In an attempt to address these questions and to study gonadal sex determination in an integrated manner, we took advantage of new single-cell RNA sequencing technologies and generated a comprehensive atlas of steroidogenic organ development and differentiation in the mouse. This atlas contains transcriptomes of approximately 150,000 cells including 100,000 from gonadal adrenal primordia and male and female gonads at several stages of embryonic development. This PhD thesis presents a test and hypothesis generation work based on the analysis and exploration of this transcriptomic atlas. During this work, I was able to identify all the cell types present in the gonad during its development. I have analyzed and described in depth the genetic programs governing germ cell differentiation. I also described and characterized the origin and fate of a rare population, similar to the supporting cells, which gives rise to the rete testis and ovarii. Finally, I reconstructed the interstitial cell lineages of the testis that give rise to Leydig cells and peritubular myoid cells. This work has also been the occasion of several international collaborations dealing with many issues related to gonadal development.

Este artigo apresenta um trajeto pelos principais textos de Sigmund Freud que têm como tema central a angústia. Desde o início de sua obra, este era um assunto abordado por Freud. Incialmente, a angústia aparecia relacionada diretamente às neuroses atuais, ponto de partida para uma primeira teoria da angústia, em que esta era considerada resultado de uma excitação sexual não descarregada. Com o passar dos anos, as abordagens em relação à angústia se modificam, culminando em uma segunda teoria da angústia, apresentada no famoso texto “Inibição, Sintoma e Angústia”, de 1926. O objetivo deste trabalho, é expor em revisão bibliográfica, o percurso feito por Freud a respeito das teorias sobre a angústia e os principais conceitos que se articulam a ela.

Breast ironing also known as breast flattening, has been considered as one of the most widespread and systematic violations of the universal human rights to personal integrity and sexual autonomy perpetuated against the girl child. This exhilarating practice which is typically carried out by the girl’s mother on the pretext of protecting the female child from teenage sexual harassment and rape, early pregnancy and dropping out of school is unfortunately done to protect family name. Employing the qualitative research approach and the expository analytic method, this research reveals that this practice has ensuring clinical, psychological and social consequences on the female victim. The paper considers this practice a rape based on the fact that the female victim’s consent is never sought. Natural sense of justice demands that the victim whose personality integrity and right to sexual autonomy was to be defiled and destroyed deserves to give an informed consent. Therefore, the paper concludes that this harmful practice is an abuse because it violently violates the girl child right full sexual autonomy and right to possess natural physiological endowment that adorns a woman. This paper therefore recommends that strict laws and penalties should be promulgated to totally abolish and eradicate this barbaric and horrific mutilation.

Introduction Misunderstanding of different aspects of sex makes individuals vulnerable to sexual dysfunction, sexually transmitted diseases, mental disorders, and illegal relationships. This study aimed to determine the effect of cognitive behavioral counseling on the sexual self-concept of female students at Kerman University of Medical Sciences. Methods This study is an intervention conducted with female students living in dormitories at Kerman and Rafsanjan Universities of Medical Sciences. The sample size was estimated at 63 students from different fields of study; 31 students from Kerman University of Medical Sciences comprised the experimental group and 32 students from Rafsanjan University of Medical Sciences comprised the control group. Cognitive behavioral group counseling sessions were held every 3 days. The instrument used for collecting pre-test and post-test data was Snell’s Multidimensional Sexual Self-concept Questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using measures of central tendency, t tests and chi-square tests. Results The two groups were homogenous in terms of demographic factors. Analysis of the results of the intervention revealed significant differences in sexual self-consciousness and motivation to avoid high risk sexual relationships, but there was no significant difference in terms of sexual depression. Discussion Cognitive behavioral group counseling can improve sexual self-concept. Therefore, this type of counseling is recommended from younger ages or at enrollment at university, to help correct development of this important part of identity.

Background: Child abuse is defined as any act or omission which causes physical or psychological harassment and lasting effects on children. Injuries resulting from child abuse are widespread, and this trauma can lead to psychological problems in adulthood. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between a history of child abuse and suicide attempts. Methods: In this case-control and retrospective study, patients admitted in 2016 to the toxicity emergency center in Yazd city, Iran, with symptoms of attempted suicide and patients of other conditions were recruited. Participants in the control and case groups were matched for age, gender, marital status, and place of residence. Each patient was given a questionnaire to collect information on demographics, history of suicide attempt or suicide in other members of the family, and history of child abuse (self-report scale) which investigated five aspects of childhood abuse (sexual, physical, neglect, lack of nutrition, and emotional neglect). Results: The chi-square test and t test were used in the analysis. Mean severity rates of physical, sexual, neglect, nutrition, and emotional child abuse were 8.49, 6.42, 10.4, 6.43, and 9.62, respectively, for the case group and 7.89, 5.52, 7.88, 5.92, and 8.52, respectively, for the control group. Conclusion: Statistical analysis revealed that except for nutritional abuse cases, the incidence rates of all other aspects of child abuse were significantly higher among cases than in the control group. The results of this study showed that a history of child abuse, especially sexual and emotional types, are correlated with the incidence of attempted suicide.

This article reviews the disorders of thunderclap, cough, exertional and sexual headache. These are a group of paroxysmal and precipitated headaches, which often occur in bouts with prolonged remissions. Indometacin seems to be the most effective preventative. Each can occur in primary and secondary form. Thunderclap headache is the most frequently reported headache syndrome associated with a secondary pathology. Discussed are the complexities of whether all patients with thunderclap headache should have further investigation if timely computerised tomography is normal and, the relevance of abnormal imaging in these disorders, differentiating what is deemed to be secondary and managing the pain.

Sexual violence has been found to have psychosocial and sexual ramifications for men who have sex with men (MSM) but has not been studied in the Middle East. We assessed the prevalence and correlates of experiences of child and post-child sexual violence among young MSM residing in Beirut, Lebanon. In total, 226 MSM, aged 18 to 29, were recruited with long-chain peer referrals and administered a survey that included questions on history of being pressured to have sex, as well as specific forms of sexual harassment and abuse, in addition to measures of psychosocial functioning and sexual behavior. Logistic regression analysis was used to examine correlates of child sex abuse and experiences of sexual violence post-childhood; 17.3% experienced sexual abuse as a child (below age 13), while 63.3% experienced any form of sexual violence post-childhood—furthermore, 48.7% had experienced being forced or pressured to have sex during their lifetime, including 32.3% prior to age 18. Participants who experienced child sex abuse were more likely to experience abusive relationships in adulthood, as well as at least one type of sexual harassment/abuse post-childhood. Experience of any sexual violence post-childhood was correlated with greater recent sexuality-related discrimination and more recent male sex partners. These findings reveal a high prevalence of sexual violence among MSM in Beirut, both in childhood and post-childhood. More research within the Middle East is needed to better understand the drivers of sexual violence in this population, and how to best provide prevention and coping services.

Esta investigación busca reconocer en las narrativas de madres adolescentes cómo fue el proceso de adquisición de conocimientos y competencias en educación sexual, buscando comprender desde su perspectiva la manera en la que vivieron la adquisición de ese conocimiento y sobre posibles falencias en ese proceso educativo. El principal objetivo la investigación es reconocer en las narrativas de las madres adolescentes escolarizadas sus impresiones sobre el embarazo adolescente y sobre las posibles falencias en la adquisición de competencias en educación sexual, esta investigación se orienta desde el enfoque cualitativo empleando para ello la metodología de estudio de caso. A grandes rasgos, se analizaron cuatro categorías principales de estudio surgidas dentro de las narrativas que fueron: Educación Sexual, Educación frente Embarazo Adolescente, Educación frente Maternidad Adolescente y Educación frente Proyecto de vida. Como conclusión general se encuentra que las adolescentes no están apropiándose de los conocimientos, no están dándole la importancia que debe tener la educación sexual, la educación sexual que se imparte es más teórica que práctica y es influenciada por otros factores. The main objective of the research is to recognize in the narratives of schooled teenage mothers their impressions about teenage pregnancy and the possible shortcomings in the acquisition of skills in sexual education, this research is oriented from the qualitative approach, using the case study methodology. There are four main categories of study emerged from the narratives: Sexual education, Education about Teenage Pregnancy, Education about teenage motherhood and Education about life project. The general conclusion is that teenagers are not appropriating the knowledge, they are not giving sexual education the importance it should have, the sexual education provided is more theoretical than practical and is influenced by other factors. The problem of substance use is not exclusive to males, yet most of the epidemiological & clinical data, assessment and interventions are andro-centric. Apart from being acknowledged as a habit either among marginalized females or the newer generation of urban females, substance use among women has received limited mainstream attention. Existing literature not only points to the differences in prevalence and patterns of substance use across genders, but also unearths gender-specific issues having significant implications in progression, outcome and management of substance use in females. One such issue is the unmet sexual and reproductive health needs of this population. This article focuses on elaborating these issues along with briefly delving into the special considerations for management of the related problems.

Pregnancy and childbirth are a special period in a woman’s life, since it has physical, hormonal and psychological implications, in addition to the social and cultural changes that can influence her sexuality. Multiple factors have been associated with an increase in the frequency of sexual dysfunction during pregnancy and postpartum, which can reach an incidence of up to 50%. Objective: To describe the estimate sexual disfunction prevalence, and to describe sexual behavior of pregnant and postpartum women, and to explore what factors influence the female sexual function index. Methods: Cross-sectional study of pregnant and immediate postpartum patients from three obstetric care medical centers in the city of Medellín. Results: Through a personal survey, 259 pregnant and postpartum women were evaluated in 3 different obstetric care centers in the city of Medellín. 59.1% of the pregnant women received information about sexuality during pregnancy, 30% being from the doctor and it was associated as a protective factor for sexual dysfunction, together with the stability of the couple. As risk factors, the subsidized regime of the social security system and the idea of harm to pregnancy by the mother were identified. Conclusion: Sexual dysfunction is an entity with a higher prevalence and some special considerations during pregnancy, compared to the general population. Because of this, health professionals should explore this aspect in prenatal care and provide adequate information on the safety of sexual intercourse during pregnancy and the possible changes in desire, reaching orgasm, and sexual satisfaction., El embarazo y el parto es un período especial en la vida de la mujer, ya que tiene implicaciones físicas, hormonales y psicológicas, además de cambios sociales y culturales que pueden influir en su sexualidad. Múltiples factores se han asociado con un aumento en la frecuencia de disfunción sexual durante la gestación y el posparto, la cual puede alcanzar una incidencia hasta del 50% en estas etapas. Objetivo: Evaluar la prevalencia de disfunción sexual durante la gestación y su relación con algunos factores de riesgo y describir el comportamiento sexual de las mujeres embarazadas y postparto. Métodos: Estudio de corte transversal de pacientes embarazadas y postparto inmediato de tres centros médicos de atención obstétrica de la ciudad de Medellín. Resultados: Por medio de una encuesta personal se evaluaron 259 mujeres en embarazo y posparto en 3 diferentes centros de atención obstétrica de la ciudad de Medellín. Se encontró una prevalencia de disfunción sexual femenina del 60,2%. El tipo más frecuente de relaciones sexuales fue la vaginal (69%). El 85% de las madres y el 71,4% de los padres consideraban que existía riesgo de un posible daño al bebe con las relaciones sexuales. El 59,1% de las embarazadas recibieron información sobre sexualidad durante la gestación, siendo el 30% por parte del médico y se asoció como factor protector para disfunción sexual, junto con la estabilidad de la pareja. Como factores de riesgo se identificó el régimen subsidiado del sistema de seguridad social y la idea de daño al embarazo por parte de la madre. Conclusión: La disfunción sexual es una entidad con una mayor prevalencia y algunas consideraciones especiales durante el embarazo, comparado con la población general. Debido a esto, los profesionales de la salud deben explorar este aspecto en la atención prenatal y brindar una adecuada información sobre la seguridad de las relaciones sexuales durante el embarazo y los posibles cambios en el deseo, el alcance del orgasmo y la satisfacción sexual.

El mayor porcentaje de los usuarios son los nativos digitales, esto es, seres humanos que crecieron en medio de la sociedad de la red. Nos referimos a niños y adolescentes, lo cual ha provocado que el pederasta del siglo pasado traslade su campo de acción a un terreno que presenta inconmensurables dificultades para identificarlo y neutralizarlo. El minotauro digital acecha, su voracidad no se frena, se asocia en redes internacionales, usa la tecnología para burlar controles. Contacta niños bajo diversos disfraces, los prepara para que satisfagan sus deseos sexuales en un pavoroso ritual de manipulación emocional que concluye generalmente en el chantaje al menor y a su posterior abuso sexual. El grooming, en muchas legislaciones actuales, presenta serias deficiencias en cuanto a su tipificación. En este trabajo presentamos un estudio desde las coordenadas del funcionalismo normativo sistémico, más concretamente desde el derecho penal del enemigo, exponiendo algunas ideas para profundizar el debate y aportar a la materialización de una campaña real de neutralización contra estos auténticos focos de peligro. Se objetará que nuestra posición entiende al pederasta como Carl Schmitt lo hacía respecto de un determinado grupo racial, lo cual, como lo demostraremos con amplia literatura, es absolutamente falso, pues el enemigo para Jakobs es un delincuente que se aparta macabra y duraderamente del derecho y es abso­lutamente indiferente su estatura o cualquier otra cuestión física. The largest users percentage are digital natives, that means, human beings who grew up in the middle of the network society. We refer to children and adolescents, which has caused the pedophile of the last century to transfer his field of action to a field that pres­ents immeasurable difficulties identifying and neutralizing the problem. The digital Minotaur lurks, its voracity does not stop, it associates in international networks, it uses technology to circumvent controls. It contacts children under various disguises, prepares them to satisfy its sexual desires in a terrifying ritual of emotional manipulation that generally ends in blackmail of the minor and subsequent sexual abuse. Grooming, in many current legislations, presents serious deficiencies regarding its typification. In this work we present a study from the coordinates of systemic normativism, presenting some ideas to go deeper into the discussion and contribute to the fight against these criminals.

The present research examined the associations that narcissistic personality features had with subjective arousal in response to sexually aggressive behaviors, as well as whether these associations were mediated by the power that was believed to accompany these behaviors. Participants were 221 community members (115 women, 106 men) who completed a self-report instrument that captured narcissistic admiration (an agentic form of narcissism) and narcissistic rivalry (an antagonistic form of narcissism). In addition, participants were asked to rate how powerful they would expect to feel if they actually engaged in an array of sexually aggressive behaviors (e.g., “Tying up a person during sexual intercourse against her/his will”) as well as how sexually aroused they would be by each behavior. A multilevel mediation analysis revealed that both narcissistic admiration and narcissistic rivalry were positively associated with subjective arousal in response to sexual aggression and that these associations were mediated by the perceived power that was believed to accompany these sexually aggressive behaviors. These results suggest that perceptions of power may play an important role in the connections that narcissistic personality features have with subjective arousal in response to sexually aggressive behavior for both men and women. This discussion will focus on the implications of these results for understanding the connections between narcissism and sexual aggression in both men and women.
