OBJECTIVE: To study the relationship between the steroid concentration in the endometrium, in serum, and the gene expression level of steroid-metabolizing enzymes in the context of endometrial receptivity in in vitro fertilization (IVF) patients.DESIGN: Case-control study of 40 IVF patients recruited in the SCRaTCH study (NTR5342), a randomized controlled trial investigating pregnancy outcome after "endometrial scratching." Endometrial biopsies and serum were obtained from patients with a first failed IVF cycle randomized to the endometrial scratch in the midluteal phase of the natural cycle before the next fresh embryo transfer during the second IVF cycle.SETTING: University hopsital.PATIENTS: Twenty women with clinical pregnancy were compared with 20 women who did not conceive after fresh embryo transfer. Cases and controls were matched for primary vs. secondary infertility, embryo quality, and age.INTERVENTION: None.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Steroid concentrations in endometrial tissue homogenates and serum were measured with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. The endometrial transcriptome was profiled by RNA-sequencing, followed by principal component analysis and differential expression analysis. False discovery rate-adjusted and log-fold change >|0.5| were selected as the threshold for differentially expressed genes.RESULT(S): Estrogen levels were comparable in both serum (n = 16) and endometrium (n = 40). Androgens and 17-hydroxyprogesterone were higher in serum than that in endometrium. Although steroid levels did not vary between pregnant and nonpregnant groups, subgroup analysis of primary women with infertility showed a significantly lower estrone concentration and estrone:androstenedione ratio in serum of the pregnant group (n = 5) compared with the nonpregnant group (n = 2). Expression of 34 out of 46 genes encoding the enzymes controlling the local steroid metabolism was detected, and estrogen receptor β gene was differentially expressed between pregnant and nonpregnant women. When only the primary infertile group was considered, 28 genes were differentially expressed between pregnant and nonpregnant women, including HSD11B2, that catalyzes the conversion of cortisol into cortisone.CONCLUSION(S): Steroidomic and transcriptomic analyses show that steroid concentrations are regulated by the local metabolism in the endometrium. Although no differences were found in endometrial steroid concentration in the pregnant and nonpregnant IVF patients, primary women with infertility showed deviations in steroid levels and gene expression, indicating that a more homogeneous patient group is required to uncover the exact role of steroid metabolism in endometrial receptivity.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: The study was registered in the Dutch trial registry (www.trialregister.nl), registration number NL5193/NTR5342, available at https://trialsearch.who.int/Trial2.aspx?TrialID=NTR6687. Male adolescents frequently present to the emergency department (ED) and many participate in behaviors increasing their risk of sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancies. Although the ED visit may represent an intervention opportunity, how best to design and deliver a sexual health intervention matching the preferences of adolescent male users is unclear. Our objective was to explore receptivity to and preferences for sexual health interventions among adolescent male ED patients.In this qualitative study, we asked sexually active male ED patients aged 14 to 21 years about their attitudes toward ED-based sexual health interventions and preferences for intervention modalities. Participants interacted with an early prototype of a digital intervention to gather specific feedback. Enrollment continued until saturation of key themes. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and coded based on thematic analysis using NVivo.Participants (n = 42) were predominantly 18 to 21 years (63%) and Hispanic (79%). Although most (71%) had sex in the prior 3 months, 45% did not use a condom at last intercourse and 17% had impregnated a partner. Participants viewed the ED visit as unused time without distracting influences, suitable for educational sexual health interventions. They considered ED-based digital interventions a reliable and confidential source of information. Engaging interventions allowed user control and provided novel and relatable content.Adolescent male ED patients are receptive to ED-based digital sexual health interventions. These identified preferences should be considered when designing future user-informed sexual health interventions for the ED setting.

Prediction of the linear amplification of disturbances in hypersonic boundary layers is challenging due to the presence and interactions of discrete modes (e.g. Tollmien-Schlichting and Mack) and continuous modes (entropic, vortical, and acoustic). While direct numerical simulations (DNS) and global analysis can be used, the large grids required make the stability calculations expensive, particularly when a large parameter space is required. At the same time, parabolized stability equations are non-convergent and unreliable for problems involving multi-modal and non-modal interactions. We therefore apply the One-Way Navier-Stokes (OWNS) Equations to study transitional hypersonic boundary layers. OWNS is based on a rigorous, approximate parabolization of the equations of motion that removes disturbances with upstream group velocity using a higher-order recursive filter. We extend the original algorithm by considering non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinates and incorporate full compressibility with temperature-dependent fluid properties. The generalized OWNS methodology is validated by comparing to DNS data for flat plates and a sharp cone, and to linear stability theory results for local disturbances on the centerline of the Mach 6 HIFiRE-5 elliptic cone. OWNS provides DNS-quality results for the former flows at a small fraction of the computational expense. We further demonstrate the capability of OWNS to track fully 3D instabilities by applying the algorithm to a complex Mach 6 finned-cone geometry as well as a 3D Mach 1.5 turbulent jet. It is often desirable, especially for design purposes, to compute worst-case disturbances, i.e. solving the inverse problem, otherwise known as resolvent or input-output analysis. While DNS and global analysis can be used to compute optimal forced responses, their large computational expense render these tools less practical for large design parameter spaces. We address this issue by modifying the original OWNS framework to find the optimal forcing and responses using Lagrangian multipliers via an iterative, adjoint-based, space-marching technique that appreciably reduces the computational burden compared to the global approach that uses singular value decomposition without sacrificing accuracy. The input-output OWNS model is validated against optimal forcings and responses of a Mach 4.5 flat-plate boundary layer from literature and a Mach 1.5 turbulent jet. We then apply these equations to study worst-case disturbances on the centerline of the Mach 6 HIFiRE-5 elliptic cone and on a highly cooled Mach 6 flat-plate boundary layer. Although the worst-case forcings are theoretically informative, they are not physically realizable. In natural receptivity analysis, disturbances are forced by matching local solutions within the boundary layer to outer solutions consisting of free-stream vortical, entropic, and acoustic disturbances. We pose a scattering formalism to restrict the input forcing to a set of realizable disturbances associated with plane-wave solutions of the outer problem. The formulation is validated by comparing with DNS of a Mach 4.5 flat-plate boundary layer. We show that the method provides insight into transition mechanisms by identifying those linear combinations of plane-wave disturbances that maximize energy amplification over a range of frequencies. We also discuss how the framework can be extended to accommodate scattering from shocks and in shock layers for supersonic flow.

Both oxytocin (OT) and touch are key mediators of social attachment. In rodents, tactile stimulation elicits endogenous release of OT, potentially facilitating attachment and other forms of prosocial behavior, yet the relationship between endogenous OT and neural modulation remains unexplored in humans. Using serial sampling of plasma hormone levels during functional neuroimaging across two successive social interactions, we show that contextual circumstances of social touch facilitate or inhibit not only current hormonal and brain responses, but also calibrate later responses. Namely, touch from a male to his female romantic partner enhanced subsequent OT release for touch from an unfamiliar stranger, yet OT responses to partner touch were dampened following stranger touch. Hypothalamus and dorsal raphe activation reflected plasma OT changes during the initial interaction. In thesubsequent social interaction, time- and context-dependent OT changes modulated precuneus and parietal-temporal cortex pathways, including a region of medial prefrontal cortex that also covaried with plasma cortisol. These findings demonstrate that hormonal neuromodulation during successive human social interactions is adaptive to social context, and point to mechanisms that flexibly calibrate receptivity in social encounters. Purpose To investigate the possibility that altered actions of endogenous progesterone affect receptivity and contribute to unexplained infertility (UI). Methods Two authors electronically searched MEDLINE, CINAHL and Embase databases from inception to 6 July 2022 and hand-searched according to Cochrane methodology. We included all published primary research reporting outcomes related to endogenous progesterone in natural cycles in women with UI. Studies were assessed for risk of bias using a modified Newcastle–Ottawa Score or NHLBI Score. We pooled results where appropriate using a random-effects model. Findings were reported as odds ratios or mean differences. Results We included 41 studies (n = 4023). No difference was found between the mid-luteal serum progesterone levels of women with UI compared to fertile controls (MD 0.74, − 0.31–1.79, I2 36%). Women with UI had significantly higher rates of ‘out-of-phase’ endometrium than controls. Nine out of 10 progesterone-mediated markers of endometrial receptivity were significantly reduced in women with UI compared to fertile controls (the remaining 1 had conflicting results). Resistance in pelvic vessels was increased and perfusion of the endometrium and sub-endometrium reduced in UI compared to fertile controls in all included studies. Progesterone receptor expression and progesterone uptake were also reduced in women with unexplained infertility. Conclusions End-organ measures of endogenous progesterone activity are reduced in women with UI compared to fertile controls. This apparently receptor-mediated reduction in response affects endometrial receptivity and is implicated as the cause of the infertility. Further research is required to confirm whether intervention could overcome this issue, offering a new option for treating unexplained infertility. Purpose Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the p53 pathways have shown to play a role in endometrial receptivity and implantation in infertile women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). The present study aimed to assess the influence of these gene variants over pregnancy success through a receptivity model in recipients of egg donation treatments, when factors such as age and quality of the oocytes are standardized. Methods A nested case–control study was performed on 234 female patients undergoing their first fresh IVF treatment as recipients of donor oocytes. Genotyping of TP53 Arg72Pro (rs1042522), LIF (rs929271), MDM4 (rs1563828), and USP7 (rs1529916) SNPs in the recipients allowed comparison of allele and genotype frequencies and their association with the IVF treatment outcome. Results Grouped by genotypes, patients showed differences in IVF outcomes after the embryo transfer. Arg72Pro (rs1042522) gene variant was associated to changes in implantation and clinical pregnancy rates. The polymorphisms USP7 (rs1529916) and MDM4 (rs1563828) were associated to differential ongoing pregnancy rates and variable miscarriage events, respectively. Conclusions This study highlights the association between gene polymorphisms related to P53 function and their influence over IVF reproductive outcomes. Arg72Pro variant may influence early events, as lower implantation rates were found in homozygous for Pro72 allele. By contrast, MDM4 (rs1563828) and USP7 (rs1529916) gene variants were associated with the later maintenance of pregnancy.

The purpose of this review is to update readers on our current understanding of endometrial receptivity and to review the literature regarding endometrial assessment and pathologic states which may influence receptivity. Topics discussed include molecular mechanisms implicated in endometrial receptivity on the basis of which three commercially available yet controversial tests have been developed (Endometrial Function Test, Endometrial Receptivity Assay, and ReceptivaDx), as well as current evidence surrounding how common gynecologic conditions such as polyps, fibroids, adenomyosis, and chronic endometritis may influence endometrial receptivity and the success of assisted reproductive technologies (ART). While the sequential action of estrogen and progesterone is central to the development of endometrial receptivity, the exact molecular mechanisms governing the transition from non-receptive to receptive endometrium remain poorly understood. Commercially available tests attempt to harness molecular markers to assess and potentially improve endometrial receptivity; however, current evidence is insufficient to support their routine clinical application. Polyps, fibroids, adenomyosis, and chronic endometritis may negatively impact implantation either directly by impeding embryo transport and attachment or indirectly by influencing endometrial receptivity. Given the likely heterogenous genetic construct and molecular expression of any pathologic condition, further research is needed to develop molecular testing to guide approach to clinical treatment.

The 1821 ‘Confessions’ is an oft-cited example of the Romantic association between creativity and drug use. However, upon closer inspection, De Quincey's memoir appears less concerned with questions of creativity than with questions of receptivity and interpretation. This sets him apart from otherwise similar authors of addiction with whom he is frequently conflated: from Coleridge, naturally, but also from Baudelaire, whose 1860 Les Paradis artificiels, ostensibly a translation of De Quincey's work, diverges considerably from its source material. Baudelaire, a poet, uses De Quincey as a starting point to investigate the effects of drug use on the poetic imagination. But De Quincey himself is less interested in the effects of opium on creativity than its effects on memory and the intellect. Differently from Les Paradis artificiels, his memoir is concerned from beginning to end with the capacity of the opium-eater to feel, to analyse, and to interpret – and not necessarily to create.

Актуальность: На сегодняшний день успех программ экстракорпорального оплодотворения в Казахстане составляет 38%. Цель исследования: Оценить механизмы влияния различных факторов риска на рецептивность эндометрия у женщин в программах экстракорпорального оплодотворения. Материалы и методы. Для написания данного обзора был осуществлен поиск отечественных и зарубежных публикаций в российских и международных системах поиска (PubMed, eLibrary) за последние 25 лет. Результаты: Хронический эндометрит является верифицированной причиной нарушения рецептивности. Во многих исследованиях доказано благоприятное влияние комплексного лечения c использованием антибактериальной, противовоспалительной, иммуномодулирующей, гормональной терапии трансдермальными формами эстрогенов и витаминотерапии на исход программ экстракорпорального оплодотворения. Заключение: Проблема рецидивирующих нарушений имплантаций в ЭКО программах является многофакторной. У женщин с нереализованной репродуктивной функцией должны применяться реабилитационные мероприятия после неудачной попытки оплодотворения для профилактики нарушений гомеостаза, адекватное обезболивание при трансвагинальной пункции фолликулов яичников. Помимо гормональной терапии с трансдермальными формами эстрадиола, комплекс реабилитационных мероприятий должен включать иммуномодулирующую терапию, психотерапию и витаминотерапию.

The paper is dedicated to the analysis of political innovations in the context of the general theory of innovation. The author defines the main scientific approaches used in social sciences and humanities to innovations, identifies the political features of the introduction of innovations, and, based on the examination of the problems of innovations introduction from the standpoint of political science, analyzes the role of Russian elites in the development of modern Russia. The study reveals the content of the concepts of innovation in the political sphere and political innovation, which are not that much the innovations per se, but the political processes determined by these innovations, as well as the associated political decisions and applied innovative political technologies. The article reveals the role of Russian elites in the innovative development of Russia, analyzes the susceptibility of Russian elites to innovations on the basis of the Elite Quality Index, and shows their ability to implement policies for the innovative development of Russia.

Cadherins play an essential role in the attachment of the blastocyst to the endometrium, a process known as endometrial receptivity. Loss of E-cadherin expression is essential during the process, while the expression level of the other cadherin, N-cadherin, has been reported to be altered in cases of infertility. Both E-cadherin and N-cadherin can be regulated by members of the PARP family. Specifically, PARP-2, which is under the epigenetic control of miR-149, has been observed to promote E-cadherin expression in other human cells. We investigated the roles of E-cadherin and N-cadherin in endometrial receptivity using mouse models for normal endometrial receptivity, pseudopregnancy, and LPS-induced endometrial receptivity failure. E-cadherin and phosphorylated E-cadherin were predominantly expressed during pre-receptive stages as well as in the implantation site of the receptive stage, which were observed reduced during the later stages of implantation in both implantation and non-implantation regions, while N-cadherin was detected only at pre-receptive stages. E-cadherin and N-cadherin were also seen in the uterus during pseudopregnancy, showing a downregulation trend during receptive and post-receptive stages. LPS-induced failed endometrial receptivity showed upregulation of E-cadherin and downregulation of N-cadherin. The E-cadherin expression promoter, GSK-3, was lost and its suppressor, SLUG was upregulated during normal course of endometrial receptivity in mouse model, while GSK-3 was increased during LPS-induced failed embryo implantation. In an in vitro model of embryo implantation, E-cadherin expression is promoted by PARP-2 and regulated by miR-149 epigenetically in human endometrium epithelial cells. In conclusion, E-cadherin is predominantly expressed during pre-receptive stage and promoted by PARP-2, which is regulated by miR-149 in the endometrial epithelial cells.

The transition from vegetative to floral buds is a complex phenomenon regulated by many factors. The timing of floral transduction has a direct impact on the reproductive success and is influenced by physiological signals mediated endogenously as well as exogenously. Flowering is the first step of sexual reproduction, so it is important to find out the factors that regulate the signals during the transition phase. The instance of floral evocation has started an unstoppable cascade on the path of reproductive success which can be regulated by sensible signals. The receptivity and inductive signals essential for flowering vary in plant species, and, create a line of differentiation, although basic calls are conserved. The transition progression in plants for blooming under diverse environmental facilities provokes the identity to force the change from vegetative to reproductive phase. Winter memory, light flakes, endogenous hormonal cycling, nutrient status, and contiguous environments are all the factors which set the center stage for flowering. Flowering is well-established by approaches which work in a combinatorial manner and, ensure a cushion for the plant to create a miniature for future. In this review, we provide a detailed outlook on fundamental cues instigating blooming: where, how and when the flowering signals are created.

STUDY QUESTION Are uterine fluid-derived extracellular vesicles (UF-EVs) a ‘liquid biopsy’ reservoir of biomarkers for real-time monitoring of endometrial status? SUMMARY ANSWER The transcriptomic cargo of UF-EVs reflects the RNA profile of the endometrial tissue as well as changes between the non-receptive and the receptive phase, possibly supporting its use for a novel endometrial receptivity test. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY EVs have been previously isolated from uterine fluid, where they likely contribute to the embryo-endometrium crosstalk during implantation. Based on a meta-analysis of studies on endometrial tissue implantation-associated genes and the human exosomes database, 28 of the 57 transcripts considered as receptivity markers refer to proteins present in human exosomes. However, the specific transcriptomic content of receptive phase UF-EVs has yet to be defined. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION Two experimental series were set up. First, we simultaneously sequenced RNA species derived from paired UF-EVs and endometrial tissue samples collected from physiologically cycling women. Second, we analyzed RNA species of UF-EVs collected during the non-receptive (LH + 2) and receptive (LH + 7) phase of proven fertile women and from the receptive (LH + 7) phase of a population of women undergoing ART and transfer of euploid blastocysts. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS For paired UF—endometrial tissue sampling, endometrial tissue biopsies were obtained with the use of a Pipelle immediately after UF collection performed by lavage of the endometrial cavity. Overall, n = 87 UF samples were collected and fresh-processed for EV isolation and total RNA extraction, while western blotting was used to confirm the expression of EV protein markers of the isolated vesicles. Physical characterization of UF-EVs was performed by Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis. To define the transcriptomic cargo of UF-EV samples, RNA-seq libraries were successfully prepared from n = 83 UF-EVs samples and analyzed by RNA-seq analysis. Differential gene expression (DGE) analysis was used to compare RNA-seq results between different groups of samples. Functional enrichment analysis was performed by gene set enrichment analysis with g:Profiler. Pre-ranked gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) with WebGestalt was used to compare RNA-seq results with the gene-set evaluated in a commercially available endometrial receptivity array. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE A highly significant correlation was found between transcriptional profiles of endometrial biopsies and pairwise UF-EV samples (Pearson’s r = 0.70 P LARGE SCALE DATA Transcriptomic data were deposited in NCBI Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and can be retrieved using GEO series accession number: GSE158958. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Separation of RNA species associated with EV membranes might have been incomplete, and membrane-bound RNA species—rather than the internal RNA content of EVs—might have contributed to our RNA-seq results. Also, we cannot definitely distinguish the relative contribution of exosomes, microvesicles and apoptotic bodies to our findings. When considering patients undergoing ART, we did not collect UFs in the same cycle of the euploid embryo transfer but in the one immediately preceding. We considered this approach as the most appropriate in relation to the novel, explorative nature of our study. Based on our results, a validation of UF-EV RNA-seq analyses in the same cycle in which embryo transfer is performed could be hypothesized. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS On the largest sample size of human EVs ever analyzed with RNA-seq, this study establishes a gene signature to use for less-invasive endometrial receptivity tests. This report is indeed the first to show that the transcriptome of UF-EVs correlates with the endometrial tissue transcriptome, that RNA signatures in UF-EVs change with endometrial status, and that UF-EVs could serve as a reservoir for potential less-invasive collection of receptivity markers. This article thus represents a step forward in the design of less-invasive approaches for real-time monitoring of endometrial status, necessary for advancing the field of reproductive medicine. Aim This study was to investigate whether bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) can repair damaged endometrium in rats and its effect on endometrial receptivity. Methods A rat model of endometrial damage was established by heat injury. BMSCs were labeled with PKH26 and were transplanted into the right uterine cavity. The endometrial thickness and fertility testing were examined to assess the repair of damaged endometrium. The mass on trichrome staining was used to assess the endometrium fibrosis. The expression of integrin avβ3 and leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) in rat endometrium was used to evaluate the endometrial receptivity. Results After transplantation of BMSCs, the distribution of PKH26 positive cells was mainly on the damaged side in the endometrial tissues. Compared to control group, the endometrial tissue structure recovered after treatment with BMSCs. BMSCs transplantation improved the fertility of endometrial injury model rats. BMSCs decreased the area of endometrial fibrosis. The expression of integrin avβ3 and LIF in endometrium was the stronger in BMSCs treatment group than control group. Conclusion BMSCs can migrate to the endometrium and repair damaged endometrium and improve endometrium receptivity.

Bullshit results from communicating with little to no regard for truth, evidence, or established knowledge (Frankfurt, 1986; Petrocelli, 2018a). Such disregard for truth serves as a common source of antiscientific beliefs and endorsement of alternative facts and is thereby critical to understand. To examine how social perceptions of bullshit may be conditional upon the political orientation of a source and the extremity of one’s political attitudes, two experiments manipulated the alleged political source of bullshit messages and measured the direction and strength of political orientation. In Experiment 1, participants rated the profundity of nonsense statements allegedly stated by high-profile left/liberal or right/conservative political leaders. Experiment 2 participants rated the profundity of both bullshit statements and factual quotations regarding innovation. Results of both experiments suggest that bullshit receptivity and bullshit sensitivity are dependent on the alignment of the source’s bullshit content with the direction and extremity of one’s political attitudes.

African Americans suffer disproportionately from colorectal cancer (CRC), due in part to disparities in CRC screening. Better understanding culturally relevant psychosocial factors that impact CRC screening is therefore critical. This study examined how African Americans' perceived cultural competency of their physician is associated with receptivity to take-home stool-based CRC screening. CRC screening deficient African Americans (N = 457) completed a patient-focused measure of perceived cultural competency and watched a brief video about CRC risks, prevention, and screening. Receptivity to stool-based CRC screening was measured using Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) constructs . Participants were also given an opportunity to receive a no-cost at-home Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) kit, and we measured acceptance of this offer as a behavioral outcome (yes-no). Results showed that perceived cultural competency was associated with higher receptive attitudes, more favorable norms, greater perceived behavioral control towards stool-based screening, and also greater intentions to engage in FIT Kit screening (p < 0.001). We also found significant indirect effects of perceived cultural competency on FIT kit uptake through intention-mediated pathways. This study provides crucial evidence that participants' perceived cultural competency may play an important role in preventive health behavior among racial minorities, including CRC screening uptake among African Americans.

The growing public outrage in the USA and elsewhere over police-related deaths of people of colour has intensified the debate over body-worn cameras (BWCs). Unlike most research on officers’ experience-based acceptance of BWCs, this study examines receptivity: initial attitudes before learning whether or not they would be assigned a camera. Knowledge of receptivity is important for informing an agency’s roll-out of BWCs. It increases the likelihood of obtaining buy-in from its officers and helping to achieve positive outcomes from the technology. The analysis, based on the Technology Acceptance Model, focused on officer attitudes predicting receptivity while controlling for their demographic characteristics. Beliefs in the evidentiary value of BWCs, their role in increasing officer safety, and likely civilizing effects on community members increased receptivity significantly; fear of supervisory sanctions played no role. Endometrial receptivity enables the embryo to attach, invade and develop, forming a new individual and species continuity. Small nucleolar RNAs (SnoRNAs) are a class of non-coding RNAs comprising two classes: C/D box snoRNAs and H/ACA box snoRNAs. Aberrant expression of SNORNAs has been reported in tumorigenesis. However, the role of SNORNAs in maintaining endometrial receptivity has not been reported. First, we detected SNORNA expression in endometrial tissues during proliferative and secretory endometrial periods using RNA sequencing. SNORA75 expression was higher in the secretory endometrium, and its overexpression significantly promoted the proliferation, migration and invasion of endometrial cells. The results of analysis with bioinformatics software and RNA pulldown experiments showed that miR-146a-3p interacted with SNORA75. Western blotting showed that miR-146a-3p regulated the expression of ZNF23, whose overexpression significantly promoted the proliferation, migration and invasion of endometrial cells. SNORA75 modulates endometrial receptivity through the miR-146a/ZNF23 signaling pathway.

The purpose of this research was to examine the effects of musical pantophagy, classical music consumption, and initial receptivity to select musical examples on changes in preference rating resulting from a program of repeated exposure. Participants included undergraduate students enrolled in a section of music appreciation at a large Southeastern university ( n = 67). Data were collected using a research designed preference rating measure (PRM) administered during a 5-week period within which there were eight test measures. Participants were divided into quartiles. Pre- to post-test measures resulted in a general positive trend for all participants. Comparisons of Q1 (lowest pantophagy) and Q3 (highest pantophagy) on PRMs 1–8 yielded no differences between groups, and PRM 8 was significantly different from PRM 1 for both groups. The same comparisons for Q1 (non-Classical music consumption) indicated significant difference with large effect size and for Q1 (lowest initial receptivity) indicated significant difference. Results suggest that regardless of musical pantophagy, repetition is an effective means by which to increase affective response to music, and that students who do not currently consume formal art music and who have low initial receptivity may report greater increases in affective response to music over time.

Objective: Many studies have explored feedback effectiveness using interventions focused on feedback delivery. It is equally important to consider how learners actively receive, engage with and interpret feedback. This study explores how medical students receive and use feedback in pre-clinical skills training. Method: Focus group data from 25 purposively selected thirdyear medical students was thematically analysed. Four major themes and eight sub-themes related to the facilitators and barriers to feedback receptivity and utilisation to feed forward emerged from the data. Results and Discussion: Students were receptive to feedback when its purpose and content aligned with their personal objectives, when it was consistent between tutors, and when it involved developing longitudinal relationships. The clinical skills formative logbook feedback culture with a learning focus was perceived to be predictive of their future performance and they were likely to take feedback on board, emphasising the role of reflection in this process. The depth and timing of actual feedback use varied among students, and language barriers hindered decoding feedback. Students’ self-regulatory focus on the feedback process had a dominant influence on their active use of feedback. Conclusion: Incorporating learner behaviour underlying feedback use should be considered when designing interventions to promote feedback engagement, feedback literacy skills and responsibility sharing in the feedback process. Establishing a learning culture that promotes shared responsibility between clinical educators and learners enable greater control by learners over assessment and feedback processes and a commitment to behaviour change. Objective Health-related norms in social networks can influence whether people are open to health behavior change. Yet, little is known about how social networks relate to the ways individual brains respond to persuasive health messaging. The current study focuses on ventromedial prefrontal cortex (VMPFC) activity as an index of neural receptivity to health messages that may be related to behavior change. The study tested whether health-related norms and perceived physical activity levels within participants' social networks are associated with neural receptivity to health messages. Method Adults who initially reported under 200 minutes/week of physical activity (N = 146) rated the perceived physical activity levels of, and closeness to, each person in their core social network. VMPFC activity was monitored using fMRI while participants viewed persuasive health messages promoting physical activity. Longitudinal changes in sedentary behavior were objectively logged using wrist-worn accelerometers throughout a 2-week baseline and the month following the fMRI scan. Results Higher levels of perceived physical activity in participants' social networks were associated with greater VMPFC activity during message exposure, which in turn were associated with greater decreases in sedentary minutes. By contrast, greater closeness to physically inactive social ties was associated with lower VMPFC activity. Conclusions Perceived norms in social networks relate to neural receptivity to health messaging. In particular, closeness to physically inactive ties is associated with lower neural receptivity to health messages encouraging physical activity, which may undermine the effectiveness of health messages. PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to provide insight into the reciprocal relations between the caregiving imparted by immigration centre managers and the role of the researcher in responding to the care that is given by managerial caregivers. To enable this, we draw on a feminist theory of care ethics that considers individuals as relationally interdependent.Design/methodology/approachThe analysis draws on a semi-structured interview study involving 20 Finnish immigration reception centre managers.FindingsInsight is generated by reflecting on moments of care that arise between research participants and the researcher in a study of immigration centre management. We emphasise the importance of mature care, receptivity and engrossment in building caring relationships with research participants by acknowledging the care they give to others. Our findings draw attention to the moral and epistemological responsibility to practice care in organizational research.Originality/valueThe paper highlights the relationality between practicing care in immigration centre management and doing qualitative organizational research, both of which rely on mature care, receptivity and engrossment in order to meet the other morally. We draw attention to the moral responsibility to care which characterises researcher–researched relationships and emphasise the importance of challenging methodological discourses that problematise or dismiss care in qualitative organizational research.

The study aims to test whether simple priming of deepfake (DF) information significantly increases users' ability to recognize DF media. Although undoubtedly fascinating from a technological point of view, these highly realistic artificial intelligent (AI)-generated fake videos hold high deceptive potential. Both practitioners and institutions are thus joining forces to develop debunking strategies to counter the spread of such difficult-to-recognize and potentially misleading video content. On this premise, this study addresses the following research questions: does simple priming with the definition of DFs and information about their potentially harmful applications increase users' ability to recognize DFs? Does bullshit receptivity, as an individual tendency to be overly accepting of epistemically suspect beliefs, moderate the relationship between such priming and DF recognition? Results indicate that the development of strategies to counter the deceitfulness of DFs from an educational and cultural perspective might work well, but only for people with a lower susceptibility to believe willfully misleading claims. Finally, through a serial mediation analysis, we show that DF recognition does, in turn, negatively impact users' sharing intention, thus limiting the potential harm of DFs at the very root of one of their strengths: virality. We discuss the implications of our finding that society's defense against DFs could benefit from a simple reasoned digital literacy intervention.

Research into both receptivity to falling for bullshit and the propensity to produce it have recently emerged as active, independent areas of inquiry into the spread of misleading information. However, it remains unclear whether those who frequently produce bullshit are inoculated from its influence. For example, both bullshit receptivity and bullshitting frequency are negatively related to cognitive ability and aspects of analytic thinking style, suggesting that those who frequently engage in bullshitting may be more likely to fall for bullshit. However, separate research suggests that individuals who frequently engage in deception are better at detecting it, thus leading to the possibility that frequent bullshitters may be less likely to fall for bullshit. Here, we present three studies (N = 826) attempting to distinguish between these competing hypotheses, finding that frequency of persuasive bullshitting (i.e., bullshitting intended to impress or persuade others) positively predicts susceptibility to various types of misleading information and that this association is robust to individual differences in cognitive ability and analytic cognitive style.

Smartphones are powerful tools for reaching the user when it is most needed, i.e. Just-In-Time (JIT). In the context of stress management in professionals, self-tracking can create awareness about stress and eCoaching can provide personalised JIT coping suggestions. Employees should also be receptive to take in or act upon the JIT-messages. Therefore, this study aims to explore what factors (emotional state, events or conditions, and content of the message) affect the employees’ receptivity to JIT-messages. 17 participants were invited to use a prototype of the Resilience Navigator app for two weeks. The mixed-methods approach consisted of mixed effects models analysis on data collected via the app (receptivity and the factors of interest) and qualitative analysis on semi-structured interview data collected after the study period. The overall finding was that the participants’ receptivity in the context of stress management often mismatches with the most relevant moments for JIT-messages. For example, emotions with a negative valence seemed to influence the receptivity towards JIT-messages negatively, although the perceived relevance was high. As technology can pinpoint the most receptive and relevant moment for sending JIT-messages, we advocate to further study this topic with more robust quantitative data.

The luminal uterine epithelial cells are the first point of contact with the implanting blastocyst. Dramatic changes occur in the structure and function of these cells at the time of receptivity including changes in the lateral junctional complex. While these morphological changes are important for uterine receptivity, currently there is no known mechanism of regulation of the lateral junctional complexes. Rab13, a member of the Rab (Ras-related in the brain) family of GTPases has a critical role in endosomal trafficking to the lateral plasma membrane and is involved in modulation of the tight junction in several cell types. The aim of this study is to investigate the role of Rab13 in changes to the lateral junctional complex at the time of receptivity. Immunofluorescence microscopy demonstrated no association between Rab13 and ZO-1 (a tight junction protein) or Rab13 and E-cadherin (an integral component of adherens junctions). Co-localisation was demonstrated between Rab 13 and desmoglein-2 at the time of fertilization and also at receptivity suggesting involvement of Rab13 in relocalisation of desmoglein-2 and formation of giant desmosomes in the apical part of the lateral plasma membrane at the time of uterine receptivity. We suggest that despite the loss of the adherens junction at the time of receptivity, the presently reported redistribution of desmosomes regulated by Rab13 allows the uterine epithelium to maintain structural integrity.

Two commercially available second-generation endometrial receptivity assays using microarray analysis or next-generation sequencing are available in the market: endometrial receptivity assay (ERA) (Igenomix Laboratories) and Adhesio RT (OVO laboratories, Montreal, Canada). Little is known about how the results of these tests compare. We present a case of a subject with repetitive failed donor oocyte embryo transfer, who underwent evaluation of endometrial receptivity using both the Adhesio and ERA tests. These two tests did not provide consistent results, with ERA suggesting receptivity on day 5 of progesterone treatment and Adhesio suggesting receptivity on the eighth day. An ERA test subsequently performed on the eighth day of progesterone treatment was suggestive of post-receptive endometrium during the same time frame that Adhesio was suggestive of receptive endometrium. In conclusion, it is important to note that these two tests may not provide consistent results in at least some subjects. Therefore, intertest validity studies are recommended.

Any inquiry into a shift in the teaching practices and/or curriculum reform motion involves a coincident study on teachers' perceptions and their receptivity towards those practices and/or reform. This study assesses the relationship between teachers' perceptions and their receptivity of the curriculum integration approaches at American curriculum schools in Dubai, UAE. It aims to examine whether the perceptions and the receptivity of the teachers towards curriculum integration models are correlated. Fogarty's ten models of curriculum integration inform the theoretical framework. A quantitative, non-experimental survey constitutes the research approach and the lens of the postpositivism forms the research paradigm. A sample of 275 Math, Science and English teachers working at American curriculum schools in Dubai, represents the study participants. The findings show an overall positive teachers' perception towards curriculum integration and finds a positive correlation between teachers' perceptions and their receptivity to curriculum integration. Though teachers consider curriculum integration complicated and require major shift in the teaching practices, and has heavy work load, they show confidence towards curriculum integration. The presence of a positive correlation could suggest offering and incorporating curriculum integration servicing in the servicing of the school staff to increase their awareness and prepare them for curriculum reform towards integration in subjects. These findings could be generalized and could inform the education authorities to look for ways for driving the motion away from the subject-based curriculum through planning and conducting professional development about the different models of integration when in-servicing teachers at their schools. Research has long noted that there are differences between men's and women's responses to casual sexual requests. In this study, we sought to replicate and extend the Clark and Hatfield paradigm while exploring the influence of requestor attractiveness, sexual orientation, and two individual difference measures: sociosexuality (which is how open to sexuality a person is) and personal mate value (which is how high quality of a mate the person is). We found that attractiveness matters in the likelihood of a request being accepted (the more attractive the requester, the higher the proportion of agreement); sexual orientation matters for the overall proportion of responses agreed to (heterosexuals were most impacted by the attractiveness of the target), and that sociosexuality moderates the likelihood of agreeing to the requests (such that participants with higher sociosexuality scores were more likely to agree to requests).

Little information exists on the sexual behaviours of the roan antelope (Hippotragus equinus; E. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1803), a species listed vulnerable in southern Africa. To fill this gap, two adult males and 13 adult females from two captive breeding herds, at Lapalala Wilderness, South Africa, were observed three times per day from September 2017 to July 2018. Pre-categorised behaviours exhibited by males and females were recorded and their frequencies quantified. Fifteen pre-defined behaviours were recorded in males with precopulatory behaviours being the most recurrent. Overall, 181 courtships and 73 complete mounts (copulations) were recorded for the two mating periods observed; each mount lasted between 3 and 4 s. In females, eight pre-defined behaviours were observed and homosexual mounts were observed for the first time in females of this species and indeed within the Hippotragini tribe. Receptivity lasted for between 24 and 72 h, with prominent behaviours being copulation, flehmen and urination. Besides hiding, moving away or lying-out, non-receptive females fell on their metacarpal joints when approached by a male, a behaviour not yet reported in hippotragine species. This study showed that courtship is the most prominent component of male mating behaviour and that receptivity in females may vary between 1 and 3 days.

The aim of this study was to compare the psychological reactions of personality traits and coping styles with stress in patients and healthy people in Tehran. The research method was descriptive causal-comparative. The statistical population of this study includes all patients referred to psychiatric offices and clinics in Tehran. The sample size is 123 people, of which 62 are healthy and 61 are sick. Sampling method is convenience sampling method and three standard questionnaires of SCL90 psychological reactions, NEO five-factor personality and Endler and Parker stress coping styles were used to collect data. The results of study showed that there was a difference between psychological reactions and components of psychological reactions in the two groups of patients and healthy people. Also, there was a difference between personality traits in the two groups of sick and healthy people, but no difference was observed between the two groups between extraversion personality traits. The results of independent t-test in the field of coping style showed that there is a significant difference between coping with stress in the two groups of patients and healthy people.

Commentators on Heidegger’s late-1920s interpretation of Kant often argue that Heidegger reveals himself in this work to be a philosopher of receptivity: Heidegger gives pride of place to the passive aspects of human cognition, our “openness to the world,” over against activity, spontaneity, and understanding (Gordon, 2010, p.7). On this view, Heidegger’s contribution to the transcendental tradition is offering an “affective transcendentalism” (Engelland, 2017, p.223): in response to the central question of transcendental philosophy – What are the prior conditions that enable and structure our experience? – Heidegger emphasizes the prior affectivity that preconditions our experience. While Heidegger’s position, so construed, may appear an exciting strain of transcendental philosophy, it likewise seems to be a considerable departure from Kant. After all, Kant insisted that both spontaneity and receptivity are required for human cognition; this is often referred to as Kant’s “discursivity thesis”. In Kant’s well-known formulation connecting our passively receiving intuitions and actively organizing concepts, “thoughts without content are empty, and intuitions without concepts are blind” (A51/B75). Therefore, the idea that Heidegger defends a philosophy of receptivity in his interpretive works on Kant contributes to the common view that Heidegger is a bad interpreter of Kant. I challenge the claim that Heidegger defends a philosophy of receptivity in his interpretive works on Kant. This claim derives its plausibility from Heidegger’s opening discussion of intuition, where Heidegger does insist that “thinking is in the service of intuition.” While this discussion grants a kind of primacy to sensibility – in particular, our faculty of sensibility explains why human cognition is finite – I suggest that it does not compromise Kant’s discursivity thesis. Heidegger affirms, with Kant, that understanding and sensibility, two distinct capacities or faculties, are required for cognition. Further, I argue that Heidegger’s claim that sensibility plays a “leading role” in cognition is merely the beginning of Heidegger’s argument; it is not his main intervention. For Heidegger is concerned not with cognition, but with the source of cognition: the very constitution of the human being. And this source, Heidegger insists, is both receptive and spontaneous. Heidegger’s central thesis – that we must consider the imagination to be the fundamental cognitive faculty in Kant – rests crucially on the claim that the imagination is both receptive and spontaneous. Under the consensus reading of Heidegger’s interpretation of Kant, Heidegger is supposed to be a perfect foil to the Neo-Kantian interpretation of Kant: where the Neo-Kantians privilege spontaneity, Heidegger privileges receptivity. While Heidegger is certainly critical of the Neo-Kantian prioritization of spontaneity, I argue that we must rethink Heidegger’s relationship to the Neo-Kantian view. Heidegger’s main thesis in the Kant interpretation – that the imagination, a faculty that is both spontaneous or receptive, is the “common root” of sensibility and understanding – answers a question that Heidegger takes up from the Marburg Neo-Kantians: what is the origin that unifies the faculties of sensibility and understanding? While the Neo-Kantians insist on an origin in the spontaneous faculty of understanding, Heidegger suggests instead that the origin is the receptive and spontaneous faculty of imagination. Where the Neo-Kantians overemphasize spontaneity, Heidegger restores balance. Ultimately, Heidegger does not prioritize receptivity in his reading of Kant; rather, Heidegger offers a transcendental philosophy that inquires more deeply into the unified receptivity and spontaneity that characterizes the human being.

The algebra classroom in urban public high schools in the United States is a complex space, ripe with many challenges and opportunities. In this paper I introduce the notion of a heart-centered stance for the teacher and the educator, and a method of engaging in creative expression for reflection and introspection toward individual change in the rich context of the high school algebra classroom. My evolving relationships with two high school algebra teachers, observations of their classrooms, as well as my own self-study and professional growth, are incorporated into this paper as I introduce and exemplify two tenets of a heart-centered stance: multidimensionality of experience and receptivity to relatedness. This study suggests the possibility of using creative artistic expression and a self-study approach to support the transformation of educators’ perspectives toward research, creative activities, and outreach that are receptive to the mathematical experiences of teachers and students in our local communities.

The concept of contacts zones, as developed in Ulf 2009, employs differentiating factors to embed the actors involved in the transfers of goods and ideas in their cultural and socio-political environments. Power exerted between people who transfer goods and ideas and those who receive them, is decisive for how receptivity is shaped by their recipients. To discover where power is situated in the complex processes of intercultural interactions, this paper leads attention to the societal characteristics that have an impact on the cultural actors. Referring to the change from the Greek enoikismoi within the scattered settlements of the local population(s) in the hinterland between the Gulf of Taranto and Brindisi to the emergence of recognizable Greek settlements along the coastline from the 8th to the 7th century BC, the example of the feast is chosen to highlight the accompanying change of the scale of power and its exertion. In the terminology of contact zones, a dense contact zone lacking a dominant partner turns into a Middle Ground. From the definition of the various contact zones derives, that the receptivity changed from free adaptation of so far unknown cultural elements to their own intentions and needs to conscious and intentional misunderstandings of the other’s cultural forms and behaviour to gain advantage over the exchange partner. Thus power is a growing factor in their relationship and becomes the more important when the Middle Ground is replaced by a dense zone of contact where one partner is able to dominate. Thereby, it becomes clear that the relationships in cultural transfers are not tied up with ethnic conditions or cultural superiority and inferiority, but determined by the type of contact zones which in turn are characterized by the tools of power involved.

This research examined understandings of cultural competence of social workers in Hong Kong, their needs and challenges in serving culturally diverse groups, and their willingness and receptivity to receive cultural competence training by using constructivist grounded theory. Individual qualitative interviews were conducted with thirteen frontline and managerial practitioners and educators in training institutions in the social work profession. Data were analysed by identifying major themes. The findings show that social workers in Hong Kong tend to encounter language barriers and various forms of cultural shocks in serving ethnoculturally diverse clients. The professional code of practice is not sufficient in promoting culturally competent practice and there are institutional barriers to the enhancement of cultural competence of the social services. Mainstream social work units are generally not well prepared to provide services to non-Chinese communities. In response to these obstacles, professional training should provide future Hong Kong social workers with opportunities to interact with ethnoculturally diverse communities through service-learning. To tackle institutional racism, leaders should have cultural awareness and promote culturally inclusive practices. Inclusion of staff members from diverse cultural backgrounds would increase the capacity of the organisations to better serve clients of diverse needs. Anti-racism training should be made as an essential professional development component for social work students, practicum students, practitioners and managers.
