The use of alternative nutritional sources is an important topic for animal production such as poultry. This study examined the effect of replacing soybean meal with sunflower leaf meal in the diet of laying shaver brown pullets. A total of 30 laying birds were assigned to three treatments of 0% (as control group), 10% and 15% MSFLM inclusion. Four eggs per replicate were randomly taken for three consecutive days at two weeks interval for five times, and 18 weeks individuals were selected after 40 days of experimental time. External parameters of the eggs (egg weight, egg length, egg breadth and egg shape index, shell thickness), and body parameters (Final body weight, weight gain), feed intake and hen day production were measured. For egg length, egg breadth and shell thickness showed significant difference (p< 0.05) in from the control birds. Final body weight, weight gain, feed intake and hen day production showed comparable results with values from eggs of birds on control diet. The study revealed the ability of birds to easily utilize the nutrients in the protein sources. MSFLM utilization up to 15% in pullets’ diet revealed no detrimental effect on the performance of the laying birds and the external qualities of eggs produced.

Teams are nowadays seen as the cornerstones of organizations. Previous research has shown that team reflexivity is positively related to team performance. Traditionally, team reflexivity is conceptualized as a process that occurs during transition moments, ignoring reflexive moments during teams’ action phases. Moreover, most studies used self-reported questionnaires and cross-sectional designs and thus provided limited insights into how team reflexivity unfolds during both the action and transition phases of teams. In this study, we adopt a social regulation perspective to develop an analytical framework to study team reflexivity in the flow of work. The study was conducted in a software development setting and included 50 h of video recordings of different types of team meetings of six professional self-managing teams (a total of 33 team members). Using concepts from social regulation theory as developed in student learning settings as an analytical lens, an analytical framework with four components of social regulation (knowledge co-construction and regulation; regulation activities; focus of regulation, and type of interaction) was developed and applied. Outcomes show that in more than half of their conversations, the teams jointly engaged in regulation-related activities, of which most concerned planning activities and a very low occurrence of evaluation activities. Different patterns of team reflexivity were found in the action and transition phase but zooming in on the interactions also showed high interrelatedness of the different activities. The analytical framework could assist future research to further study the interaction between the different components and how they mutually relate to team performance.

On 3rd October 2002, the youngest German national holiday was celebrated in Berlin: the day of German unity. This newly established national holiday (having begun in 1991) is meant to commemorate the reunification of Germany which took place on 3rd October 1990. A state-ceremony took place in the opera house and a street was held at the Pariser Platz and around the Brandenburg Gate. The most important symbolic center of the re-unified city turned into the grounds for a huge open-air festival. Like every year, German counties were encouraged to present their regional or local specialties, in the first place food and drink, such as fish from Hamburg, Hessian apple wine, Bavarian white sausages and so on, and to show folk dances, music or other "traditions" from their "home" countries. Dancing companies, cabaret, music or folklore groups presented their programs during the day on a huge stage which was put up for this occasion. The Ministries and the government had information desks and gave informative materials and gadgets to punters. A parade took place in the afternoon, which was also meant to present "Germany's feast" as a celebration of the re-unification and to show the richness and diversity of Germany's regions: folklore groups, groups wearing traditional costumes, and some brass bands walked along the alley Unter den Linden and showed the richness of German regional "heritage."

Background Hop performance evaluation in children after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction may benefit from comparison to healthy controls. Thus, the purpose was to investigate the hop performance in children one year after ACL reconstruction with a comparison to healthy controls. Methods Hop performance data from children with ACL reconstruction one year post-surgery and healthy children were compared. Four one-legged hop test data were analyzed: 1) single hop (SH), 2) 6 m timed hop (6 m-timed), 3) triple hop (TH), and 4) cross-over hop (COH). Outcomes were the best result (longest/fastest hop) from each leg and limb asymmetry. Differences in hop performance between-limbs (operated versus non-operated) and between-groups were estimated. Results 98 children with ACL reconstruction and 290 healthy children were included. Few statistically significant group differences were observed. Girls with ACL reconstruction outperformed healthy controls in two tests on the operated leg SH, COH) and in three tests on the non-operated leg (SH, TH, COH). However, the girls performed 4–5% worse on the operated leg when compared to the non-operated leg in all hop tests. No statistically significant between-group differences in the limb asymmetry were found. Conclusion The hop performance in children with ACL reconstruction one year post-surgery was largely comparable to the level of healthy controls. Despite this, we cannot exclude that neuromuscular deficits exist among the children with ACL reconstruction. The inclusion of a healthy control group for evaluating hop performance evoked complex findings regarding the ACL reconstructed girls. Thus, they may represent a selected group.

Background: Post-activation potentiation refers to the acute and temporary enhancement of performance in explosive movements after performing a conditioning activity, such as plyometrics. The current study aimed to investigate the acute effects of horizontal leg bounding on 30 m acceleration performance, 5 m split times, and sprint kinematics (step frequency and length, flight and contact time). Methods: Fourteen young sprinters, nine females and five males, performed two experimental conditions and one control condition in randomized and crossover orders. The experimental conditions included 3 × 10 repetitions of alternate-leg horizontal bounding or 3 × 5 repetitions of single-leg horizontal bounding for each leg. Active recovery was performed in the control condition. A 30 m sprint test was executed before and 5 min after each condition. Results: Sprint times at 5 m (p = 0.014) and 10 m (p = 0.041) were improved after performing alternate-leg horizontal bounding. Additionally, an increase in running velocity (p = 0.017) and step frequency (p = 0.028) was observed in the 0–5 m segment of the sprint. Sprint performance and kinematics showed no significant differences after performing single-leg horizontal bounding. Conclusions: Alternate-leg horizontal bounding, which is a sprint-specific exercise that emphasizes a horizontal impulse, can be used effectively to improve performance in the initial phase of sprint acceleration.

This article examines how qualitative job insecurity, work motivation and perceived investment in employee development (PIED) are associated with employees’ contextual performance in terms of extra-role behaviours (ERBs). The authors propose a three-way interaction model and suggest that the way qualitative job insecurity relates to employees’ ERBs is contingent upon their work motivation and PIED. Results showed that there was a significant three-way interaction between job insecurity, PIED and intrinsic motivation (but not for extrinsic motivation) for ERBs. Employees who reported high qualitative job insecurity but had low intrinsic motivation engaged in more ERBs when they were given ample opportunities for development, while highly intrinsically motivated individuals exhibited fewer ERBs when the organization supported their professional development. This study contributes to the job insecurity and motivation literatures. To increase ERBs, organizations are advised to reduce qualitative job insecurity and to provide ample learning opportunities for employees who have low levels of intrinsic motivation.

Research SummaryIn this second collection of articles relating to global strategy, we address the well-established but unresolved issue of the relationship between multinationality and performance among multinational firms. The M-P relationship has been the topic of many articles in many journals for many years, but its true nature is still not established. Both theory and empirical findings provide different and often opposed views, as can be seen in the articles collected here. We see two main perspectives on this issue. Some scholars suggest that differences in data and analytical tools have prevented consistent empirical results, and that more consistent and carefully chosen empirical modeling can yet establish the true M-P connection. Others believe that basic problems in theory and in building testable frameworks that are truly consistent with theory have made this an inherently intractable problem. The collection provides important articles that test the M-P relationship as well as critiques from both perspectives. We see considerable power in the view that individual firms are likely to have their own idiosyncratic optimal level of multinationaliation. We finish by calling for and suggesting new approaches to the issue, such as a micro-foundations approach, as opposed to simply using more sophisticated tools to test problematic models based on well-established but ultimately inadequate theory.Managerial SummaryThe relationship between the level of multinational diversification and performance in multinational firms is at the heart of global strategy. If operating at ever increasing levels in ever more countries does not provide reliably superior performance, why do firms continue to expand internationally? One view suggests that since firms continue to increase their international presence, there must be some ultimate benefits—difficult as they may be to establish. The opposing view suggests that since an equal amount of research finds no such benefits, it may be that no level of multinational diversification is generally optimal, but that depending on its particular resources and capabilities, experience, industry, and national portfolio, each multinational must discover its own optimal level of cross-border investment.

Virtual grasping is one of the most common and important interactions performed in a Virtual Environment (VE). Even though there has been substantial research using hand tracking methods exploring different ways of visualizing grasping, there are only a few studies that focus on handheld controllers. This gap in research is particularly crucial, since controllers remain the most used input modality in commercial Virtual Reality (VR). Extending existing research, we designed an experiment comparing three different grasping visualizations when users are interacting with virtual objects in immersive VR using controllers. We examine the following visualizations: the Auto-Pose (AP), where the hand is automatically adjusted to the object upon grasping; the Simple-Pose (SP), where the hand closes fully when selecting the object; and the Disappearing-Hand (DH), where the hand becomes invisible after selecting an object, and turns visible again after positioning it on the target. We recruited 38 participants in order to measure if and how their performance, sense of embodiment, and preference are affected. Our results show that while in terms of performance there is almost no significant difference in any of the visualizations, the perceived sense of embodiment is stronger with the AP, and is generally preferred by the users. Thus, this study incentivizes the inclusion of similar visualizations in relevant future research and VR experiences.

Background and Study Aim. The purpose of this study was to find the effect of the game based on educational method and technical approach on the performance of legs attacks in free-style wrestling. Material and Methods. The type of research was semi-experimental. Participants included 20 boys’ students who were divided into two groups based on the game-based approach (10) and technical training (10). The teaching unit was a format of 12 lessons over 4 weeks (2 days per week). Each lesson lasted 60 minutes. At the end of each training session, the participants played benchmark bouts, one on one, for 2 x 6 minutes. The data were analyzed using SPSS 16 software at a significance level of 0.05. Results. The results showed that both the game-based and technical approach groups had a significant improvement in successful leg attacks in free-style wrestling. With regard to the preparation of leg attacks, there was no improvement for the technical approach group. However, the game-based group had a significant improvement in the total number of attacks compared to the technical group. Conclusions. The results suggest that the use of a game-based educational method can significantly increase the important factors of wrestling performance related to leg attacks in young wrestlers. Teachers can connect actions from other technical movements from the same family of leg attacks., Передумови та мета дослідження. Метою даного дослідження було виявити вплив гри на основі навчально-методичного та технічного підходу на виконання атак ногами у вільній боротьбі.Матеріал і методи. Тип дослідження був напівекспериментальним. Учасниками були 20 учнів хлопчиків, які були розділені на дві групи за ігровим підходом (10) та технічним навчанням (10). Навчальний блок був у форматі 12 уроків протягом 4 тижнів (2 дні на тиждень). Кожен урок тривав 60 хвилин. Наприкінці кожного тренування учасники проводили контрольні поєдинки один на один по 2 х 6 хвилин. Дані аналізували за допомогою програмного забезпечення SPSS 16 на рівні значущості 0,05.Результати. Результати показали, що як ігрові, так і технічні підходи мали значне покращення в успішних атаках ногами у вільній боротьбі. Що стосується підготовки атак ногами, то для групи технічного підходу не було покращень. Однак ігрова група мала значне покращення загальної кількості атак порівняно з технічною групою.Висновки. Результати свідчать про те, що використання ігрового навчального методу може суттєво підвищити важливі фактори боротьби, пов’язані з нападами ногами у юних борців. Вчителі можуть пов’язувати дії з інших технічних рухів з того ж сімейства нападів ногами.

Top-down liquid-phase exfoliation (LPE) and bottom-up hot-injection synthesis are scalable methods to produce Generally thought off as two entirely different fields, we show that similar stabilization mechanisms apply to colloids of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) produced by both methods. By screening the colloidal stability of MoS2 produced in a hot-injection synthesis in a wide range of solvents, we observe that colloidal stability can be understood based on solution thermodynamics, wherein matching the solubility parameter of solvent and nanomaterial maximizes colloidal stability. Identical to MoS2 produced through LPE, optimal solvents to disperse MoS2 produced from the bottom-up have similar solubility parameters of approximate to 22 MPa1/2 and include aromatic solvents with polar functionalities, such as o-dichlorobenzene, and polar aprotic solvents, such as N,N-dimethylformamide. We further complemented our findings by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrscopy, highlighting that organic surfactants, such as oleylamine and oleic acid, have a minimal affinity toward the nanocrystal surface and engage in a highly dynamic adsorption/desorption equilibrium. We thus conclude that hot injection yields MoS2 colloids with comparable surfaces as those produced by LPE. These similarities might offer the prospect of using established procedures developed for LPE nanomaterials to postprocess colloidally synthesized dispersions of 2D colloids as processable inks.

Considering relations between universities and the productive sector, the Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) fundamentally foster innovation. In the technology process, transfer TT) since they are responsible for studies of prospecting and competitive intelligence and their protection in intellectual property (IP). The present study aims to identify the effectiveness of TT processes as a measure of the performance of Brazilians Science and Technology Institutions (STIs) TTOs considering their technology, innovation promotion policies and intellectual property protection. It regards qualitative, exploratory-descriptive research with a multiple-study method. The data was collected through documentary research and semi-structured interviews with three groups of actors already participating in TT processes: researchers, TTO managers, and company managers. Through the triangulation of data, data triangulation these institutions still need to have adequate adherence to the models of business innovation management used by the local productive sector and need more bidirectional planning. Despite the advancement of the scope and quality of services offered by TTOs and the amounts of technology contracts, there has been an extensive effort to improve the communication channels and promote innovation by identifying factors that contribute to and hamper the promotion of change in the Ceará' scenario, the characteristics that group STIs in different stages of maturation were detected.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of dietary Piriformospora indica (PI) and clove essence (CE) and a combination of them (synbiotic) on performance and biochemical parameters after induction of stress using dexamethasone. The experiment was performed with 320 male, one-day-old chicks (Ross 308) using eight experimental groups and five replications. In each replication, eight chickens were fed a maize–soy-based diet. Experimental groups included group 1 (T1): control diet (based on maize and soybean without any feed additives); group 2 (T2): control diet with 0.2 cc dexamethasone injection; group 3 (T3): control diet with 11.6 cc CE; group 4 (T4): control diet with 10 mg PI; group 5 (T5): control diet with 11.6 cc of CE with 0.2 cc injection of dexamethasone; group 6 (T6): control diet with 10 mg PI and 0.2 cc of dexamethasone; group 7 (T7): control diet with synbiotic containing 10 mg of PI with 11.6 cc of CE; group 8 (T8): control diet with synbiotic containing 10 mg of PI and 11.6 cc of CE with 0.2 mg dexamethasone injection. PI and CE were poured into the drinking water during the rearing period. After 31, 33, 38, and 40 days, 2 mg/kg BW of dexamethasone was injected in the right breast muscle of experimental groups 2, 5, 6, and 8; after 35 and 42 days, samples were taken. The addition of CE, PI, and the synbiotic, caused an increase in body weight gain, feed intake, and reduced FCR compared to the control group in experimental groups 3, 4, and 7. The addition of 11.6 cc CE and 10 mg of PI caused an increase in body weight gain and feed intake and reduced FCR compared to the control group. Dexamethasone (0.2 mg) led to damage of the lymph organs, body weight loss, a reduction in humoral immunity, and side effects on performance parameters. Clove extract and the prebiotic reduced the adverse effects of dexamethasone.&nbsp

Photoinduced halide segregation hinders widespread application of three-dimensional (3D) mixed-halide perovskites. Much less is known about this phenomenon in lower-dimensional systems. Here, we study photoinduced halide segregation in lower-dimensional mixed iodide-bromide perovskites (PEA2MAn-1Pbn(BrxI1-x)3n+1, with PEA+: phenethylammonium and MA+: methylammonium) through time-dependent photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. We show that layered two-dimensional (2D) structures render additional stability against the demixing of halide phases under illumination. We ascribe this behavior to reduced halide mobility due to the intrinsic heterogeneity of 2D mixed-halide perovskites, which we demonstrate via 207Pb solid-state NMR. However, the dimensionality of the 2D phase is critical in regulating photostability. By tracking the PL of multidimensional perovskite films under illumination, we find that while halide segregation is largely inhibited in 2D perovskites (n = 1), it is not suppressed in quasi-2D phases (n = 2), which display a behavior intermediate between 2D and 3D and a peculiar absence of halide redistribution in the dark that is only induced at higher temperature for the quasi-2D phase.

Purpose This paper aims to examine the impact of competition on firm performance using a data set of 352 firms listed on Vietnam’s stock exchanges from 2015 to 2019. Design/methodology/approach The two-step system generalized method of moments is used to estimate this impact. Findings The findings reveal an inverted U-shaped relationship between competition and firm performance. Competition improves firm performance if its intensity is moderate. However, if the competition intensity exceeds the optimal level, the performance deteriorates accordingly. Research limitations/implications The authors only studied Vietnamese firms due to the limited ability in data collection. It would be better to validate the findings using data from other transition economies. Practical implications The non-linear relationship between competition and performance implies that government should pay more attention to retaining competition at an appropriate level. Social implications Firms contribute a lot to the prosperity of Vietnam. Therefore, the findings have a meaningful implication for Vietnam’s government to moderate competition to improve its firms’ performance. Originality/value This paper contributes to the extant literature by providing firsthand evidence of the impact of competition on firm performance in Vietnam – a transition economy.

Background: To improve the understanding of the thermodynamics and performance of small passive hygroscopic Heat and Moisture Exchangers (HMEs), a computer model simulating HME function is required. Methods: We developed a numerical HME model to calculate the HME's water and heat exchange. The model was tuned and verified with experimental data and validated by applying it to HME design variations. Results: Verification of the model's results to the experimental data shows that the tuned model yields reliable results. The mass of the core, which determines the HME's total heat capacity, is the most important parameter influencing the performance of passive HMEs. Conclusions: Increasing the HME's diameter is an effective way to improve an HME, as it yields higher performance and lowers breathing resistance. HMEs intended for use in warm or dry climates should contain more and those for use in cold humid climates should contain less hygroscopic salt.

Multi-core processors support all modern electronic devices nowadays. However, temperature and performance management are one of the most critical issues in the design of today’s microprocessors. In this paper, we propose a framework by using an optimal control method based on fan speed and frequency control of the multi-core processor. The goal is to optimize performance and at the same time avoid violating an expected temperature. Our proposed method uses a high-precision thermal and power model for multi-core processors. This method is validated on asymmetric ODROID-XU4 multi-core processor. The experimental results show the ability of the proposed method to achieve the adequate trade-off between performance and temperature control.

BackgroundCognitive deficits may be characteristic for only a subgroup of first-episode psychosis (FEP) and the link with clinical and functional outcomes is less profound than previously thought. This study aimed to identify cognitive subgroups in a large sample of FEP using a clustering approach with healthy controls as a reference group, subsequently linking cognitive subgroups to clinical and functional outcomes.Methods204 FEP patients were included. Hierarchical cluster analysis was performed using baseline brief assessment of cognition in schizophrenia (BACS). Cognitive subgroups were compared to 40 controls and linked to longitudinal clinical and functional outcomes (PANSS, GAF, self-reported WHODAS 2.0) up to 12-month follow-up.ResultsThree distinct cognitive clusters emerged: relative to controls, we found one cluster with preserved cognition (n = 76), one moderately impaired cluster (n = 74) and one severely impaired cluster (n = 54). Patients with severely impaired cognition had more severe clinical symptoms at baseline, 6- and 12-month follow-up as compared to patients with preserved cognition. General functioning (GAF) in the severely impaired cluster was significantly lower than in those with preserved cognition at baseline and showed trend-level effects at 6- and 12-month follow-up. No significant differences in self-reported functional outcome (WHODAS 2.0) were present.ConclusionsCurrent results demonstrate the existence of three distinct cognitive subgroups, corresponding with clinical outcome at baseline, 6- and 12-month follow-up. Importantly, the cognitively preserved subgroup was larger than the severely impaired group. Early identification of discrete cognitive profiles can offer valuable information about the clinical outcome but may not be relevant in predicting self-reported functional outcomes.

Resumen En este artículo analizamos Nocturno de Chile (2000), del novelista chileno Roberto Bolaño (1953-2003), a partir de la forma visual de la narración. La extensa producción de este escritor posee un carácter imagético innegable que abordaremos a partir de su correlato con las formas de producción del teatro y el cine. La hipótesis es que el diálogo inter-artes nos ofrece una nueva forma de acercamiento a su obra y, especialmente, a la novela que abordaremos en este estudio. Las imágenes de Nocturno de Chile transitan entre el fin de la democracia y la dictadura por medio del delirio de un hombre agónico que revisa su vida afectivo-literaria como respuesta a una agresión intelectual. Abstract We analyse, in this article, Nocturno de Chile (2000), by the Chilean novelist Roberto Bolaño (1953-2003), on the basis of the visual form of the story. The extensive production of this writer has an undeniable imagery-centred character that we address from its correlation with the production forms of the theater and the cinema. The hypothesis is that the inter-arts dialogue offers us a new way of approaching his work and, especially, the novel that we address in this study. The images in Nocturno de Chile circulate between the end of democracy and the dictatorship of Pinochet through the delirium of a dying man who reviews his emotional literary life in response to an intellectual attack.

Aquila Optimization Algorithm (AQUILA) is a newly emerged metaheuristic optimizer for solving global optimization problems, which is based on intrinsic hunting behaviors of the foraging aquila individuals. However, this stochastic optimization method suffers from some algorithm-specific drawbacks, such as premature convergence to the local optimum points over the search hyperspace due to the lack of solution diversity in the population. To conquer this algorithmic deficiency, an ensemble of Wavelet mutation operators has been implemented into the standard AQUILA to enhance the explorative capabilities of the algorithm by diversifying the search domain as much as possible. Furthermore, a brand-new local search scheme empowered by the synergetic interactions of elite opposition-based learning and a simple-yet-effective exploitative manipulation equation is introduced into the base AQUILA to intensify on the previously visited promising regions. The proposed learning schemes are stochastically applied to the obtained solutions from the base Aquila algorithm to refine the overall solution quality and amend the premature convergence problem. It is also aimed to investigate whether the collective application of Wavelet mutation operators with different types entails a significant improvement in the general search effectivity of the algorithm rather than their individual efforts. Numerical experiments made on a suite of unconstrained unimodal and multimodal benchmark functions reveal that this hybridization with AQUILA has improved the general solution accuracy and stability to very high standards, outperforming its contemporary counterparts in the comparative statistical analysis. The quest for hydrological hyper-resolution modelling has been on-going for more than a decade. While global hydrological models (GHMs) have seen a reduction in grid size, they have thus far never been consistently applied at a hyper-resolution (<=1 km) at the large scale. Here, we present the first application of the GHM PCR-GLOBWB at 1 km over Europe. We thoroughly evaluated simulated discharge, evaporation, soil moisture, and terrestrial water storage anomalies against long-term observations and subsequently compared results with the established 10 and 50 km resolutions of PCR-GLOBWB. Subsequently, we could assess the added value of this first hyper-resolution version of PCR-GLOBWB and assess the scale dependencies of model and forcing resolution. Eventually, these insights can help us in understanding the current challenges and opportunities from hyper-resolution models and in formulating the model and data requirements for future improvements. We found that, for most variables, epistemic uncertainty is still large, and issues with scale commensurability exist with respect to the long-term yet coarse observations used. Merely for simulated discharge, we can confidently state that model output at hyper-resolution improves over coarser resolutions due to better representation of the river network at 1 km. However, currently available observations are not yet widely available at hyper-resolution or lack a sufficiently long time series, which makes it difficult to assess the performance of the model for other variables at hyper-resolution. Here, additional model validation efforts are needed. On the model side, hyper-resolution applications require careful revisiting of model parameterization and possibly the implementation of more physical processes to be able to resemble the dynamics and spatial heterogeneity at 1 km. With this first application of PCR-GLOBWB at 1 km, we contribute to meeting the grand challenge of hyper-resolution modelling. Even though the model was only assessed at the continental scale, valuable insights could be gained which have global validity. As such, it should be seen as a modest milestone on a longer journey towards locally relevant model output. This, however, requires a community effort from domain experts, model developers, research software engineers, and data providers.

[EN] The effects of a moderate incorporation of dehydrated sainfoin Perly cultivar (DS) in rabbit feeds on the performance and health of reproductive and growing rabbits were analysed over two consecutive reproductive cycles in a professional breeding environment. Two groups of 192 does and associated litters were fed isonutritive feeds containing either 0 or 13% dehydrated sainfoin (respectively C (control) vs. S ( sainfoin ) groups) in replacement mainly of dehydrated alfalfa. Growing rabbit feeds C and S included 0 and 15.6% safoin, respectively. Doe live weight, number of live rabbits at birth and stillborn rate were not affected by dietary DS incorporation. In cycle 1, fertility rate was 10% higher for the S-group, but was similar among the groups in the 2nd cycle (significant interaction). This research is based on the not yet optimal performance of the South Padang sub-district office staff which is characterized by inappropriate targets and realization of performance. Based on the 7 target indicators of employee performance with targets from agency programs of 100, on average only 84% is realizedBased on this, there are three factors that are suspected of causing this including training, work ability and organizational commitment. So, this study aims to see the effect of (1) Training on the performance of South Padang Sub-district Office employees (2) Work ability on the performance of South Padang sub-district office employees (3) Organizational commitment to the performance of South Padang Sub-District Office employees (4) Training, work ability and organizational commitment have a joint effect on the performance of employees in the South Padang District Office. The population in this study were all employees of the South Padang sub-district office of 38 people. The technique of determining the number of samples using total sampling. The data analysis technique uses multiple regression by fulfilling the requirements of the classical assumption test for normality, and multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity. The results of this study indicate that (1) Training provide a positive significant influence on the performance of employees of the South Padang Sub-District Office (2) Work abilityhas a positive influence on the Performance of South Padang District Office Employees (3) Organizational commitmenthas a negative influence on the performance of employees of the Padang Selatan sub-district office (4) Training, employability and organizational commitmentjointly have a positive effect on the performance of employees of the South Padang District Office.

Biodiesel is being considered a possible alternative fuel due to its similarity with diesel and environmental benefits. This current work involves a numerical investigation of CI engine characteristics operating on D100 (diesel) and Dunaliella tertiolecta (DMB20), Scenedesmus obliquus (SOMB20), Scenedesmus dimorphu (SDMB20), and Chlorella protothecoides (CMB20) microalgae biodiesel blend. A diesel engine of 3.7 kW was used with variable compression ratios (CRs) (15.5, 16.5, 17.5, and 18.5) and constant speed (1500 rpm). Comparative analysis was performed for engine characteristics, including emission, combustion, and performance. Cylinder pressure, heat release rate, brake thermal efficiency, specific fuel consumption, particulate matter, oxide of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, etc., were evaluated using the blended fuel. The results show that the maximum cylinder pressure falls, SFC increases, and EGT and BTE were reduced for all blends at full load. In terms of emission characteristics, PM and smoke were lowered when compared to diesel, but a slight increment in NOx and CO2 was observed. Among all the blends, SOMB20 shows the most decrement in PM and smoke emissions by 14.16% and 11.6%, respectively, at CR 16.5. CMB20 shows a maximum increment in SFC by 3.22% at CR 17.5. A minimum reduction in CP and HRR was shown by DMB20 irrespective of CRs.

Background: Performance levels in football are ever more important and no longer are just physical, technical, and tactical skills, the ones that make an athlete stand out. Cognitive variables, such as stress-coping, become more important and seem to be explaining differences in performance, for example, through reaching an optimal level of arousal. In addition, it is suggested that stress-coping skills also affect situation awareness (SA), important for decision-making in the complex and dynamic situations in football. Objective: This study was conducted to examine how stress-coping skills, such as stress mindset, affect performance and SA in the context of a football match. Methods: Twenty elite female football players participated in the study. The final sample size consisted of 15 players for the Stress Mindset Measure (SMM) analysis and 8 players for the multilevel model analyses. Two types of intervention were used to manipulate stress mindset and control over heart rate variability (HRV); a serious game called "Stressjam,"and a reflection tool called "Brainjam."Questionnaires for stress mindset and SA and video analysis for performance were used. A total of three matches were assessed. Results: The "Stressjam"intervention resulted in significant differences in stress mindset throughout the intervention [F(1,5) = 7.357, P = 0.008]. Subsequently, multilevel analysis showed a positive, strong, and significant correlation between stress mindset, manipulated through "Stressjam"and SA [r(14) = 0.69, P = 0.014]. A correlation of practical interest, given the confidence intervals, was found between stress mindset, manipulated through "Stressjam,"and performance. Conclusion: Cognitive variables, such as stress-coping, correlate significantly with SA in football. A correlation of practical interest was found between stress-coping and performance. Further research is needed to study the relationship between stress-coping and performance in football.

Grounded in performance theories and Indigenous methodologies, this essay focuses on the 2021 solemn service in Uppsala Cathedral, when the Church of Sweden apologized for its historical complicity in the colonization of Sápmi. The essay discusses key rhetorical features of the Archbishop’s apology and analyses how the service incorporated Sámi visual, material, oral, and performance cultures. Of specific interest are five Sámi testimonies about settler colonialism and artist Anders Sunna’s redesign of the sanctuary. To tease out the contextual specificities (and limitations) of the apology and situate it as part of unfolding decolonial processes across the circumpolar North, the essay draws selective comparisons to Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and former Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s 2008 formal apology to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples., Basé sur les théories de performance et les méthodologies autochtones, cet essai se concentre sur le service solennel tenu à la cathédrale d’Uppsala en 2021, durant lequel l’Église de Suède s’est excusée publiquement pour sa complicité historique dans la colonisation du Sápmi. L’essai discute les éléments rhétoriques clés des excuses de l'archevêque et analyse la façon dont cette messe incorporait les cultures visuelles, matérielles, orales et performatives des Samis. Le réaménagement du sanctuaire par l’artiste Anders Sunna, ainsi que les cinq témoignages de Samis sur le colonialisme sont particulièrement intéressants. Afin de déterminer les spécificités (et les limitations) contextuelles de ces excuses et les situer dans les processus de décolonisation en cours dans le cercle polaire, cet essai établit des comparaisons sélectives avec la Commission de vérité et réconciliation du Canada et les excuses officielles de l’ancien Premier ministre canadien Stephen Harper aux Premières Nations, Inuits et Métis en 2008.

Our purpose with this study was to analyze trail runners’ psychological variables of mental toughness (MT) and resilience, and their associations with runners’ performances within a quantitative cross-sectional study. In total, we analyzed data from 307 Portuguese trail runners (60 female, 247 male), aged between 20 to 66 years ( M age = 41.98; SD = 7.74). The results showed that the measurement model, including the factors of MT, resilience, and performance variables, exhibited an adequate fit to the data: χ 2 = 150.01 (74); BS-p = .003; CFI= .953; TLI = .942; RMSEA = .058 90% (.045, .071) and SRMR= .042. Standardized direct effects revealed positive associations between these variables. More specifically: (a) MT was significantly associated with resilience; and (b) resilience was significantly associated with performance. The indirect regression paths showed that MT was positively associated with performance, with resilience considered a possible mediator ( β = .09 IC = .010, .168; p = .02). In total, considering direct and indirect effects, the model explained 21% of performance variance among trail runners.

Majority of the past research on application of machine learning (ML) in earthquake engineering focused on contrasting the predictive performance of different ML algorithms. In contrast, the emphasis of this paper is on the use of data to boost the predictive performance of surrogates. To that end, a novel data engineering methodology for seismic collapse risk assessment is proposed. This method, termed the automated collapse data constructor (ACDC), stems from combined understanding of the ground motion characteristics and the collapse process. In addition, the data-driven collapse classifier (D2C2) methodology is proposed which enables conversion of the collapse data from a regression format to a classification format. The D2C2 methodology can be used with any classification tool, and it allows estimation of seismic collapse capacities in a way analogous to the incremental dynamic analysis. The proposed methodologies are tested in a case study using decision trees (XGBoost) and neural network classifiers with an extensive dataset of collapse responses of a 4-story and an 8-story steel moment resisting frames. The results suggest that the ACDC methodology allows for dramatic improvement of the predictive performance of data-driven tools while at the same time significantly reducing data requirements. Specifically, the proposed method can reduce the number of ground motions required for collapse risk assessment from at least forty, as traditionally used, to less than twenty motions. Moreover, interpretation of feature importance conforms with the engineering understanding while revealing a novel, period-dependent measure of ground motion duration. All data and code developed in this research are made openly available.

PurposeBusiness case (BC) analyses are performed in many different business fields, to create a report on the feasibility and competitive advantage of an intervention within an existing organisation to secure commitment from management to invest. However, most BC research papers on decisions regarding internal funding are either based on anecdotal insights, on analyses of standards from practice, or focused on very specific BC calculations for a certain project, investment or field. A clear BC process method is missing.Design/methodology/approachThis paper aims to describe the results of a systematic literature review of 52 BC papers that report on further conceptualisation of what a BC process should behold.FindingsSynthesis of the findings has led to a BC definition and composition of a 20 step BC process method. In addition, 29 relevant theories are identified to tackle the main challenges of BC analyses in future studies to make them more effective. This supports further theoretical development of academic BC research and provides a tool for BC processes in practice.Originality/valueAlthough there is substantial scientific research on BCs, there was not much theoretical development nor a general stepwise method to perform the most optimal BC analysis.

PurposeOnline learning is an effective training strategy to help students, as one of the success factors is academic engagement. Therefore, the use of online training courses to influence academic engagement and performance in emotional intelligence learning experiences is worthy of investigation. This study explores the influence of emotional intelligence as an online training course and its impact on academic engagement and learning outcomes–performance.Design/methodology/approachThe authors used a quasi-experimental study with two groups of participants who were randomly assigned (experimental e control) and with pretest–posttest measurements of the online training. The emotional intelligence online training (for the experimental group) was conducted during a single semester, with eight hours of training. The methodology of reflective, role-playing, case study and group work was followed. Measurements of student academic engagement and emotional intelligence were collected before (one week before the training) and after the intervention (on the last training session). Performance was measured after the intervention.FindingsThe mean scores improved for all the variables, with the differences being statistically significant. The students assessed their learning positively. The results also showed that emotional intelligence was positively related to academic engagement but not to performance. This means that emotional intelligence training was effective in increasing the academic engagement of university students.Practical implicationsThe results are promising in terms of the students retaining the competencies acquired. Therefore, this type of online training is recommended for the emotional intelligence and academic engagement of future human resources professionals. Moreover, according to the results, it would be possible to use emotional intelligence training programs in schools, besides other programs, to promote the academic engagement and performance of students.Originality/valueThe design of the study provides evidence that is an added value for higher education institutions.

Discipline and integrity possessed by employees is a reflection of the company's performance, both of which will be able to affect employee performance. Maintaining the discipline and integrity of employees is one of the important functions of operational human resource management because the better the level of discipline and integrity of employees, it will simultaneously affect the company's performance. This study aims to determine the impact of discipline and integrity on employee performance. Discipline is tested through example, waskat (attached supervision), firmness. Integrity is tested through honesty, consistency, commitment. Performance is tested through the quality of work, responsibility, cooperation. The research method is quantitative with a sample taken of 110 Telkom employees in the South Surabaya Region. The data analysis technique uses the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method using IBM SPSS Statistics and AMOS version 24 software. The results of this study indicate that discipline and integrity have a significant influence on the performance of Telkom employees in the South Surabaya Region

This study aims to analyze the effect of job characteristics and compensation on performance through work engagement. There are four variables in this study, including work engagement, compensation, job characteristics, and performance. Several previous studies have shown that work engagement is able to mediate the influence of job characteristics and compensation on performance. The data of this research comes from the perception of tax bailiff. The sample size of 263 employees was obtained by using Slovin formula. The analytical SEM PLS method was used to answer the research objectives. The results obtained from this research show that work engagement is able to mediate the effect of job characteristics and compensation on performance. In addition, the direct influence test shows that job characteristics and compensation have a significant and positive effect on work engagement. Job characteristics, compensation, and work engagement have a significant and positive effect on performance.

Although language has become a central theme in international business and management research, this stream still holds many unexplored research avenues. One area that has attracted some attention, but lacks extensive systematic assessment, is the connection between language and personal reputation. Qualitative research has offered tentative insights suggesting that proficiency in key organizational languages increases the status of individuals over and above their functional abilities. In this study, we use data from 171 pairs of expatriate academics and their local academic collaboration partners. We asked the local academic peers to rate expatriate academics' reputation, their local and English language skills, and collaboration performance. As expected, we found a positive association between academic reputation and collaboration performance. In line with analyses from qualitative research, we show a moderation effect of language skills, where high common organizational language (English) proficiency compensates for a weaker perceived reputation in predicting collaboration performance. Surprisingly, however, there was no moderating effect of local language skills.

Common problem in the operation of breastshot water wheel in Indonesia is discontinuity operation of the wheel due to very low stream velocity in the channel during dry season. In order to minimize the problem, it is important to study the method of maintaining the continuity operation of the wheel during dry season. Thus, the installation of water-jumper at upstream of the wheel is proposed in the present work. The laboratory models of the water channel and breastshot water wheel were fabricated. The water jumper is attached at the upstream whose slope angle can be adjusted. The present work investigates the effect of water-jumper slope on the performance of the breastshot wheel. The slope angles are set at 5°, 10°, 15°, 20°, 25°, 30°, 35°, and 40°and the upstream velocities are 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6 m/s. The result reveals that the use of water-jumper can increase the gross head and hydraulic power of very low stream, and hence the torque and the output power of the breastshot wheel are enhanced. The highest efficiency is achieved at the slope angle of 10º for stream velocity of 1.3 m/s. The water-jumper gives significant effect at stream velocity lower than 1.3 m/s. The hydraulic power is influenced by both discharge and gross head where they increase at increasing slope angle of the water-jumper. However, higher momentum losses occurs at the wheel for stream velocity higher than 1.3 m/s, thus output power and efficiency of the breastshot decreases even though hydraulic power increases. The water-jumper can keep continuous operation of the breastshot wheel in the irrigation channel during dry season.

Previous studies on handrim wheelchair-specific (an)aerobic exercise capacity in wheelchair athletes have used a diversity of participants, equipment, and protocols. Therefore, test results are difficult to compare among studies. The first aim of this scoping review is to provide an overview of the populations studied, the equipment and protocols used, and the reported outcomes from all laboratory-based studies on wheelchair-specific exercise capacity in wheelchair athletes. The second aim is to synthesize these findings into a standardized, yet individualized protocol. A scoping literature search resulted in 10 anaerobic and 38 aerobic protocols. A large variety in equipment, protocol design, and reported outcomes was found. Studies that systematically investigated the influence of protocol features are lacking, which makes it difficult to interpret and compare test outcomes among the heterogeneous group of wheelchair athletes. Protocol design was often dependent on a priori participant knowledge. However, specific guidelines for individualization were missing. However, the common protocol features of the different studies were united into guidelines that could be followed when performing standardized and individualized wheelchair-specific exercise capacity tests in wheelchair athletes. Together with guidelines regarding reporting of participant characteristics, used equipment, and outcome measures, we hope to work toward more international agreement in future testing.

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are considered a significant way to minimize dependence on fossil fuel. As one of the most energy-consuming auxiliary components in EVs, air conditioning should enhance its performance and minimize the power and energy consumption. In this experiment, a modular air conditioner prototype with additional heat pipe components for an electric bus air conditioner has been successfully constructed. In this study, a modular AC system testing was carried out before and after using heat pipes at various ambient temperature conditions. The results reveal that the heat pipes utilization in the modular AC system for electric buses increases the cooling capacity by about 15%, and reduces the power input level of the AC system by about 28%. This has contributed to raising of the system’s Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of around 30%, and the heat pipe’s average effectiveness of 7,5%.

The well-being and mental health of principals is being threatened by changing working conditions such as a broader variety of roles and tasks. In this article, we argue that social capital might buffer against declining (mental) health. The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential influence of social capital, including both internal (bonding) and external (bridging and linking) social capital, on principals’ well-being. A longitudinal study was set up across three waves of data. Questionnaires were collected from 2084 Australian principals and 829 Irish principals, across six and two timepoints, respectively. The hypotheses were tested using a longitudinal path model approach using maximum likelihood estimation in lavaan for R. In line with our hypotheses, the results indicated that principals who reported higher levels of either internal or external social capital also reported higher levels of well-being. More specifically, support from colleagues outside the school and supervisor support (external social capital) and collaboration and trust in management (internal social capital) predicted well-being positively across time. The results of this study highlight the importance of having social support from colleagues and supervisors and possibilities for collaboration to maintain well-being as a school principal.

The H-Darrieus wind turbine could be applied as an alternative electricity generation source. However, their performance is still low, affecting less attention to being used as electricity generation sources. Considering the current condition, the present study provides a numerical simulation of a potential performance enhancement of the H-Darrieus wind turbine by adding a high-efficiency vortex (HEV). HEV owns the ability to control the flow around the blade. HEV causes turbulent flow around the turbine while increasing turbulent kinetic energy. Three different HEV structures in rectangular, trapezoidal, and triangular shapes were attached to the blade to investigate the wind turbine performance. Two-tab angles (β) of 30° and 45° were applied to each structure to investigate the best position of HEV. The blade without HEV was considered as the baseline for the performance evaluation. It is revealed that triangular HEV performed the best with β of 30°, improving the power coefficient by 34% compared to the baseline when the tip speed ratio (TSR) is more than 1.5.

A free piston engine linear generator (FPELG) is considered a type of contemporary technology for energy conversion. The main features of FPELG are less emission, few parts i.e., less friction, and high efficiency. However, because the FPELG does not have a crankshaft, critical issues e.g., combustion efficiency, and performance were reported. This study examines the influence of various fuel injection durations (FID) on combustion behaviors. According to the results of the experiments, as the time increased of the fuel injection, the in-cylinder pressure and translator velocity both slightly grew. The highest work output and combustion efficiency were at FID17 and FID 14 ms, respectively. Thus, FID plays a significant role to improve FPELG performance and optimal fuel duration is required.

Despite the common belief among practitioners that a happy worker is a productive worker, researchers have been struggling to understand the causality between satisfaction and performance for decades. This study attempts to bring clarity to current understanding through an experiment with repeated measures of satisfaction and performance. A total of 143 participants repeatedly performed a task based on the Stroop test, with their objective performance and task satisfaction measured each time. Two different types of feedback (high/low performance) were randomly assigned to participants in order to manipulate perceived performance. The data were analyzed using a path analysis. The results support the hypothesized influence of task satisfaction on task performance and of perceived task performance on task satisfaction.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in measuring, analyzing, and understanding happiness using a variety of resources and techniques. Especially in the business sphere, where happiness at work can be defined as a state of mind that gives employees more than economic reasons to carry out their daily tasks. This study aims to investigate, through bibliographical research, within a qualitative approach, the characteristics of today's society focused on performance and productivity but sickened by the weight that toxic positivity causes. The general objective of this study is: to understand how happiness has become a weight in organizations and its influence on society of performance and fatigue. The specific objectives are the following: to know the difficulties faced by employees to achieve high performance/performance; identify at what point positivity can become toxic within the work environment; to investigate what the current literature brings about the themes of happiness at work, performance society, and tiredness. In the end, the research shows that it is urgent to (re)learn the art of attention, listening, silence, stopping, and giving “space” not to fall into the “gears” of consumption and production so that the human being does not have only one purpose for living: operating at maximum output.

El presente artículo hace un balance de la respuesta de las organizaciones regionales latinoamericanas y caribeñas al covid-19. En especial, se pregunta si éstas han contribuido a hacer frente a la pandemia y se busca encontrar explicaciones para la considerable divergencia entre las respuestas de nueve organizaciones regionales. En ese orden de ideas, en primer lugar, se señala que el regionalismo latinoamericano ya se encontraba en crisis antes de la llegada del covid-19. Algunas de las características de esta crisis eran: una decreciente regionalización económica, una creciente polarización política regional, y la parálisis y la desintegración de algunas organizaciones regionales como la UNASUR. Es por eso que se argumenta que las expectativas con respecto al desempeño de las organizaciones regionales eran bastante bajas. Posteriormente, combinando fuentes académicas y primarias, se hace una valoración de las acciones desplegadas por cada organización frente a la pandemia del covid-19. Estas acciones se dividen en tres para su evaluación: el compartir información, la coordinación interestatal y la acción colectiva (interna y externa). En esa valoración se obtuvieron resultados mixtos: hubo algunas organizaciones que tuvieron un buen desempeño y otras que tuvieron un bajo rendimiento, en especial si se tienen en cuenta sus mandatos fundacionales y la totalidad de sus capacidades institucionales. En segundo lugar, con base en la literatura sobre organizaciones internacionales y regionales se propone que son cuatro las variables que tienen mayor poder explicativo para dar cuenta de la divergencia de esas respuestas de las instituciones regionales a la pandemia: la diferenciación funcional, la autonomía de las organizaciones, el liderazgo y el conocimiento (know-how) acumulado. En tercer lugar, el artículo deriva unas lecciones más generales para el regionalismo latinoamericano de estas respuestas regionales al covid-19 (y de la ausencia de éstas en algunos casos). Se defiende la idea de que un regionalismo más técnico, diferenciado funcionalmente y segmentado puede resistir mejor los embates de la polarización ideológica y los inevitables cambios de ciclo político en América Latina. Especialmente, si se compara con los riesgos de parálisis y crisis de organizaciones “sombrilla” que abarcan una gran multiplicidad de temas a través de numerosos consejos u otro tipo de subunidades.

Over recent decades, the arts have become a popular response to dementia. Amidst wider concerns with accessibility, widening participation and audience diversity, coupled with greater attention to creativity across dementia studies, many arts organisations are now offering dementia friendly initiatives. While dementia friendliness has been well-established for almost a decade, the meaning of friendliness remains vague. This paper reports results from a study of how stakeholders navigate this nebulousness when developing their own dementia friendly cultural events. To assess this, we interviewed stakeholders working for arts organisations in the northwest of England. We found that participants built up local informal networks of knowledge exchange, sharing experiences between stakeholders. The dementia friendliness that characterises this network centres on the crafting of vibes that enable people with dementia to ‘unhide’ themselves. Through this accommodating approach, dementia friendliness converges with stakeholder interests, becoming something of an art form in its own right, typified by active embodied experience, flexible and creative self-expression, and being in-the-moment.

[EN] This article shows as an object of study a collaborative and experimental experience that, through a participatory action-research methodology, takes the surrealist strategy of "exquisite corpse" to be applied to action art. This strategy has made it possible to explore various creative group paths in our most immediate environment, which is where we act through our bodies. We practice the local while keeping the global in mind, especially due to the complex social context such as the one traversed by the Covid-19 pandemic in which this experience unfolds, notably marking the entire process, in which the use of technology. The main contribution is the use of a methodology based on action art, through which it has been possible to observe how technology and collaborative work have led to hybrid results that find influences not only in the founding surrealist movement of the strategy, but also in groups like Oulipo or Fluxus. To conclude, we will see how the multiplicity of approaches that are produced on the same subject, leads to an intermediality that leads us to consider the various mutations of disciplines as part of collective creation., [ES] En este artículo se muestra como objeto de estudio una experiencia colaborativa y experimental que, mediante una metodología de investigación-acción participativa, toma la estrategia surrealista de cadáver exquisito para ser aplicada al arte de acción. Esta estrategia ha permitido explorar diversas vías creativas grupales en nuestro entorno más inmediato, que es donde accionamos a través de nuestros cuerpos. Practicamos lo local teniendo muy presente lo global, especialmente por el contexto social complejo como el atravesado por la pandemia de la Covid-19 en el que se desarrolla esta experiencia, marcando de una manera notable todo el proceso, siendo fundamental el empleo de la tecnología. La aportación principal es la utilización de una metodología cualitativa de investigación-acción participativa (IAP), a través de la cual se ha podido observar cómo la tecnología y el trabajo colaborativo, han propiciado unos resultados híbridos que encuentran influencias no solo en el movimiento surrealista fundador de la estrategia, sino también en grupos como Oulipo o Fluxus. Para concluir, veremos cómo la multiplicidad de enfoques que se producen sobre un mismo tema, desemboca en una intermedialidad que nos lleva a considerar las diversas mutaciones de disciplinas como parte de la creación colectiva.

Background Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is widely used in the diagnostic work-up of patients with stable chest pain. CCTA has an excellent negative predictive value, but a moderate positive predictive value for detecting coronary stenosis. Computed tomography-derived fractional flow reserve (FFRct) is a non-invasive, well-validated technique that provides functional assessment of coronary stenosis, improving the positive predictive value of CCTA. However, to determine the value of FFRct in routine clinical practice, a pragmatic randomised, controlled trial (RCT) is required. We will conduct an RCT to investigate the impact of adding FFRct analysis in the diagnostic pathway of patients with a coronary stenosis on CCTA on the rate of unnecessary invasive coronary angiography, cost-effectiveness, quality of life and clinical outcome. Methods The FUSION trial is a prospective, multicentre RCT that will randomise 528 patients with stable chest pain and anatomical stenosis of ≥ 50% but Conclusion The FUSION trial will evaluate the use of FFRct in stable chest pain patients from the Dutch perspective. The trial is funded by the Dutch National Health Care Institute as part of the research programme ‘Potentially Promising Care’ and the results will be used to assess if FFRct reimbursement should be included in the standard health care package.

This research was conducted to enhance the productivity of the targeted sewing line at the ABC textile company. The existing SAMs, the capacity of the sewing line for various operations, and several required machines were collected. Moreover, the obtained figures were observed and analyzed by using time study and motion study, and certain improvements were made at the sewing line. Results indicated that SAMs for operations A and B were minimized by -13.64% and -14.54% respectively; whereas, SAM for operation C was increased by 16.67%. Machine requirement for operation C was increased by 100%; moreover, the capacity for operations A, B, and C was increased by 12%, 12.69%, and 40% respectively. When it is to production activities, the little improvements play a significant role in boosting the productivity of the production system. Optimal allocation of human resources, machines, and time are the benefits of line balancing. This can be made possible with the application of the line-balancing framework. With every passing day, the nature and type of article vary at the sewing line thus it is highly needed for the company to get the model developed for an automated line balancing application. Moreover, this work can be extended by the development of a line-balancing framework considering the nature of production.

PurposeThe creativity of retail employees seems to be of the utmost importance for ensuring the performance of organizations in service settings. This paper contributes to the existing theory by investigating the direct and indirect effects of goal orientations on the creativity and performance of retail employees. The authors propose a framework depicting the relationships between goal orientations and employee creativity and performance, including the intervening effects of self-efficacy and customer orientation.Design/methodology/approachThe study was conducted with retail frontline employees of a large retail bank in Portugal. The sample consists of 267 valid responses. Structural equations are used by applying the maximum likelihood method to test the conceptual framework.FindingsResults are broadly supportive of the hypotheses. Learning orientation is, directly and indirectly, related to creativity, but only indirectly to performance. As to performance orientation, it is indirectly related to creativity through self-efficacy and customer orientation, and directly as well as indirectly, to performance. The authors investigate the extent to which the effects of goal orientations on creativity and performance are mediated by self-regulatory mechanisms, namely self-efficacy, and customer orientation.Originality/valueThe results recognize that learning and performance goals are neither mutually exclusive nor contradictory, which collide with past empirical evidence showing that learning goals are generally associated with more favorable outcomes and performance goals with more negative or equivocal ones. These outcomes underscore the need and relevance for managers to foster both goal orientations to promote the creativity and performance of retail employees, representing a particularly salient issue in retail businesses characterized by significant interpersonal interactions.
