The Internet of Things (IoT) technology is not just about the connection among billions of devices but also about enabling a wide range of new capabilities, architectures, or service paradigms. The scale of the IoT is set to have a major economic, social, and environmental impact. However, the implementation of IoT faces various challenges, including sensing ability, energy consumption, power supply, data security, privacy, and data accountability. In order to mitigate these challenges, more and more IoT systems are embracing the new IoT paradigm, such as millimeter-wave (mmWave), sensor-less sensing, backscattering Wi-Fi/RFID, wireless/vision hybrid, blockchain, fat client, and so on. These modes shed light on the emerging technologies that could revolutionize the conventional IoT systems.

To provide customized healthcare services in edge computing environment, it is necessary to process perspectives related to delivering context information such as procedures of data collection and analysis in various data formats. It is required to have a fat-client concept that performs, data preprocessing and converting data formats where generated data sets have different structure. Furthermore, the fat-client concept has advantages of covering data acquisitions and job allocations in edge computing environment. Once data sets are collected, then users can have healthcare reports, analyzed in a different level. When dealing with procedures of analysis, their models are necessary because data sets have different formats and ranges, moreover models will be required for user customizing it by adjustment the data sets being collected. This paper proposes a method for managing fat-client to provide customized healthcare services in edge computing environment. The proposed method, provides a fat-client profile for managing each fat-client user. The fat-client profile includes information such as sequences of data sources and analysis methods. In the experiment, the fat-client management is demonstrated through data collection and monitoring of instances created by the Fat-Client profile.

Virtualisation is a technology that is more and more applied due to its advantages regarding cost and operation. It is often believed that it provides a better security for an IT environment since it enables centralisation of hardware. However, virtualisation changes an IT environment fundamentally and contains new vulnerabilities that must be considered. It is of interest to evaluate whether the belief that virtual environments provide a better security for an IT environment is true or not. In this project, the resiliency against attacks for physical environments and virtual environments is analysed to determine which one provides a higher resiliency and why. Therefore, the physical and digital attack surfaces of all entities are analysed to reveal the relevant vulnerabilities that could be exploited. Beside a theoretical research, a physical and a virtual environment have been established to test chosen attacks practically. The results show that virtual environments are less resilient than physical environments, especially to common attacks. This shows that virtualisation is still a technology that is new to many companies and the vulnerabilities it has must be taken seriously.

Regression testing is important but time consuming. Automating the testing have many benefits. It will save money for companies because they will not have to pay testers to manually test their applications. It will produce better software with less bugs as testing can be done more frequently so bugs will be found faster. This thesis has compared two techniques used to automate regression testing. The more traditional component level record and replay tools and Visual GUI testing tools that uses image recognition. Eight tools in total was tested and compared, four from each technique. The system under test for this project was a fat client application used by Trafikverket. After automating a test suite using all tools, it could be concluded that the component level record and replay had some advantages over visual GUI testing tools, especially when it comes to verifying the state of the system under test. The benefits of visual GUI testing tools comes from their independence from the system under test and that the technique more correctly mimics how a real user interacts with the GUI. Det sparar pengar för företag eftersom de inte behöver betala testare för att manuellt utföra testerna. Det resulterar i bättre mjukvara med färre buggar eftersom man kan testa oftare och därmed hitta buggar tidigare. Det här projektet har undersökt och jämfört två tekniker som kan användas för att automatisera regressionstestning och verktyg som använder dessa tekniker. Dels de traditionella verktygen som identifierar objekt på komponentnivå samt verktyg som istället använder sig av bildigenkänning för att identifiera objekt. Totalt testades och utvärderades åtta verktyg, fyra av varje tekniktyp. Systemet som testades under projektet är en skrivbordsapplikation som används av Trafikverket. Efter att ha automatiserat en testsekvens med varje verktyg kunde konstateras att verktygen som identifierar objekt på komponentnivå har flera fördelar över verktyg som enbart använder bildigenkänning. Detta gäller främst när det kommer till verifiering av systemets tillstånd. Den största fördelen med bildigenkänningsverktygen visade sig vara dess oberoende från systemet, samt att tekniken mer efterliknar en verklig användare.

The pathologization of fat bodies, and the anti-fat attitudes that are (re)introduced and (re)enforced through such pathologies, present a barrier in the relationship between therapist and fat client. Previous literature confirms that therapists are more likely to predict negative prognoses for fat clients than for thin ones and to make generalized assumptions about fat clients. These anti-fat attitudes interfere with fat clients receiving bias-free, evidence-based care. Therapists can recognize and address their anti-fat attitudes and consume fat-positive material produced by fat people. Shifting these beliefs, attitudes, and practices may be difficult; in this way, queering, as a framework, becomes quite useful.

In many online storage services, end-users mainly interact with the system via “fat” storage clients that integrate complex functionality. This means that to obtain a complete performance evaluation of one of such systems we may need to generate workloads on the client side that reproduce the behavior of real users. Unfortunately, this remains as an open research challenge today. We present BenchBox : A distributed performance evaluation framework for fat-client storage systems. On the one hand, BenchBox can generate workloads directly in storage clients that mimic users exhibiting a certain behavior, namely, user stereotypes . To this end, the framework enables to plug-in workload models and feed them with compact recipes that capture the behavior of user stereotypes (e.g., storage activity, type of file contents, data sharing links). On the other hand, BenchBox provides researchers with management and monitoring facilities to deploy experiments and analyze the performance of groups of storage clients. To demonstrate our framework, we equipped BenchBox with a 2-layer workload model that reproduces both the activity —e.g., types of operations, frequency— and data —e.g., file sizes, data types—of users in a Personal Cloud. We used this model to generate workloads based on user stereotypes that we identified in real traces (UbuntuOne). Our experiments with public providers show how distinct types of users impact on the performance and efficiency of Personal Clouds, which may guide their optimization.

Nakon toga slijedi opis interne strukture po uzoru na model klijent-poslužitelj, uvid u funkcionalne aspekte i uloge klijenta i poslužitelja, definicija komunikacijskih kanala RESTful servisa te logički dizajn baze podataka. Predstavljanjem korištenih tehnologija, čitatelj se uvodi u proces fizičke implementacije poslužitelja te projektnu strukturu dok se u narednim poglavljima opisuje cjelokupna izrada projekta kroz faze počevši od konfiguracije poslužitelja, preko implementacije baze podataka i definiranja modela, izrade same poslužiteljske aplikacije i definiranja servisa, zaključno sa uvidom u dodatno korištene posredničke tehnologije. The contents of this paper cover the process of building server-side components of a web-based application for managing schedules in universities, starting with an architectural design that describes the requirements set on the system and the layout of the application's user interface. This is followed by an overview of the internal structure based on the client-server model, insights into the functional aspects and roles of the client and server respectively, the definition of restful based communication channels, and the logical design of the database. By introducing the utilized technologies, the reader is familiarized with the process of physical server implementation which provides insights into the structure and overall design of the project through phases, starting with the server configuration, then going through the implementation of the physical database, the definition of models and server application endpoints, concluding with insight into the used middleware technologies.

With rapid advances in mobile computing, multi-core processors and expanded memory resources are being made available in new mobile devices. This trend will allow a wider range of existing applications to be migrated to mobile devices, for example, running desktop applications in IA-32 (x86) binaries on ARM-based mobile devices transparently using dynamic binary translation (DBT). However, the overall performance could significantly affect the energy consumption of the mobile devices because it is directly linked to the number of instructions executed and the overall execution time of the translated code. Hence, even though the capability of today's mobile devices will continue to grow, the concern over translation efficiency and energy consumption will put more constraints on a DBT for mobile devices, in particular, for thin mobile clients than that for severs. With increasing network accessibility and bandwidth in various environments, it makes many network servers highly accessible to thin mobile clients. Those network servers are usually equipped with a substantial amount of resources. This provides an opportunity for DBT on thin clients to leverage such powerful servers. However, designing such a DBT for a client/server environment requires many critical considerations.In this work, we looked at those design issues and developed a distributed DBT system based on a client/server model. It consists of two dynamic binary translators. An aggressive dynamic binary translator/optimizer on the server to service the translation/optimization requests from thin clients, and a thin DBT on each thin client to perform lightweight binary translation and basic emulation functions for its own. With such a two-translator client/server approach, we successfully off-load the DBT overhead of the thin client to the server and achieve a significant performance improvement over the non-client/server model. Experimental results show that the DBT of the client/server model could achieve 37% and 17% improvement over that of non-client/server model for x86/32-to-ARM emulation using MiBench and SPEC CINT2006 benchmarks with test inputs, respectively, and 84% improvement using SPLASH-2 benchmarks running two emulation threads.

The prolific growth of the Internet density has replaced native applications with web based applications. Current trend of web applications is moving towards fat client architecture, which results in a large codebase of the client side of web applications. Manual management of this huge code is tedious and time consuming for developers. We present a technique to construct a dependency graph to provide an overview of the code showing the inter-dependency of the code elements. We conduct a dynamic analysis to make the JavaScript call graph to address the dynamic nature of JavaScript. We further integrate HTML and CSS with the JavaScript call graph to make a dependency graph. Because we can accurately identify the HTML and CSS relations, the result of the dependency graph depends on the JavaScript call graph. Our evaluation of the JavaScript call graph on six web applications demonstrates that the precision is high for the large applications and relatively low for small applications. The recall is low for large applications and relatively higher for small applications.

Real-time applicationisone of the internet-based applications that function with in a time frame that require a quick response between client and server. It has been improved to fulfill user's demand towards Next Generation Network(NGN), by injecting intensive and media-rich elements in the applications. All these innovations need sufficient bandwidth to ensure them to be delivered continuously, smoothly and successfully to the end users. However, current scenario has seen the internet population has raised rapidly so does the potential size of its traffic hat give significant impact to the online service. Hence, an efficient infrastructure is required to satisfy the demand of internet applications such as multimedia streaming. In this paper, we describe a frame work to allocate a temporary server to serve local clients within the same network domain during high traffic. This proposal has been tested on video streaming application to see the continuity of the service. from the primary server to the local alternative server instead of only pointing to one source of server. This approach is by remotely allocates a temporary server at local area that is near to the client domain network. This temporary server is allocated during network high congestion and it is done by primary server at a runtime. The temporary local server will serve the group of client in the same domain network.This method is diverse to the previous approaches such as Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networking, Content Delivery Network (CDN) and Replication/cache server (7)-(9). The previous solutions are not practical due to high cost to allocate the physical server, high maintenance and also need to verify the accurate location of the servers. In contrast, our proposal is more cost saving as we need only some space temporary during the network congestion and the server will return back to the primary server once the task of serving client's request have accomplished.

There is a common task in web applications when the content of a database table or the result of a query has to be listed on the client side. In traditional implementation the requested amount of data needed for the page is queried and created on the server and is sent to the client. Then, at every interaction a new http request is sent to the server and the database layer generates a new data set to be displayed. Modern web applications can rely on the higher computing power of the client computers. Therefore state-of-the-art applications can transfer more data to the client where data are handled in an array and frontend Javascript executes filtering, sorting, and paging. This approach saves server capacities and omits the network communication lag; at the same time the user interface becomes faster and more responsive. A backend-frontend solution would be useful that distributes the computational tasks according to the available resources on the client side. As the data processing capability is not universal to all clients, benchmark logic has to be applied to adjust client specific data limit.

This paper introduces the client design based on Android mobile sync of cloud storage system, including system architecture and its module design. Through the Android mobile sync client software, user can access the cloud server to implement some functions, such as upload and download, data backup and restore, file management and sharing in the distance. Under the LAN environment, the client system has successfully completed the tests of both function module and assembly verification. The results show that the whole system runs in good condition.

In order to meet the user requirement of the dynamic customization and configuration of the changeable and complicated page functionality on the client, when constructing the web application platform, an advanced rich-client method and technology based on DOM ( Document Object Model ) was designed and used to develop the client module. The client module with rich-client technology was in the traditional J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition ) architecture which was the Client-Centric and MVC ( Model-View-Control ) mode. On the client side, according to the dynamic page generation algorithm, developers wrote JavaScript scripting language based on DOM and Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) for user customization and choose the part of the third-party open-source Extjs ( Extendable JavaScript ) components as the page elements to generate client-side dynamic configuration interface. From a user experience perspective, The good performance test results of the advanced rich-client method effectively examine the distinguishing features of the new method.

Cloud computing has recently become a significant technology trend in the IT field. Among the related technologies, desktop virtualization has been applied to various commercial applications since it provides many advantages, such as lower maintenance and operation costs and higher utilization. However, the existing solutions offer a very limited performance for 3D graphics applications. Therefore, we propose a novel method in which rendering commands are not executed at the host server but rather are delivered to the client through the network and are executed by the client’s graphics device. This method prominently reduces server overhead and makes it possible to provide a stable service at low cost. The results of various experiments prove that the proposed method outperforms all existing solutions.

This article presents a virtual client-based converged access architecture for IMS and web services. A virtual client transfers most of the signaling and session maintenance loads to a remote server named surrogate, which implements the IMS client. We describe how we have implemented an IMS-web hybrid service, Movieon- Demand (MoD), by deploying a simple IMS client and web server in a surrogate, and using an open-source implementation of a full IMS environment, from client to application server.

We present webAD, a web-based e-learning platform for the visualization of algorithms and data structures. It follows a light-weight server-less implementation paradigm and pursues a minimalistic vision: no installation or configuration effort, multi device support, clear structure of didactic content and simple extensibility for developers. Compared to other visualization tools for algorithms and data structures webAD puts a high value on an innovative flexible tape-recorder mechanism. Based purely on HTML5 and JavaScript with the smallest usage of external libraries it is designed according to the Model-View-Controller architectural pattern and works as a fat client. A thorough analysis of the system in respect to usability and extensibility is performed and findings and recommendations are critically discussed.

This allows to build a whole application as a single distributed program, in which it is possible to define in a composable way reusable widgets with both server and client behaviors. Our language also enables simple and type-safe communication. Eliom matches the specificities of the Web by allowing the programmer to interleave client and server code while maintaining efficient one-way server-to-client communication. The Eliom language is both sufficiently small to be implemented on top of an existing language and sufficiently powerful to allow expressing many idioms of Web programming. In this paper, we present a formalization of the core language of Eliom. We provide a type system, the execution model and a compilation scheme.

Interaction and visualization are two significant methods for both business people and scientists to find “gold nuggets” buried in raw data. These two methods can simplify complex theories and make it easier for people from different research areas to cooperate. Many prevalent web-based data interaction and visualization tools and libraries are not as effective as before because of big data. Most of the traditional client/server web application visualization tools and libraries process visualization and interaction in the client side. This workflow requires the server side to transfer data to the client side. If the data size is very big, the data transferring time is unbearable. In this paper, we propose a fast and new method for client/server web application to interact and visualize big data. The method visualizes data in the server side with multiple CPU cores and transfers result images to the client side. The client side collects users' interaction information and the server side updates visualization results based on the interaction information. We tested the workflow with large volume datasets and it is much faster than traditional workflows.

Cilj ove aplikacije je bio izraditi hemeroteku s funkcionalnim korisničkim sučeljem koje će omogućiti normaliziranu pohranu podataka o događajima, osobama, te izvorima na koje se članci odnose, kao i pretraživanje i referenciranje na članke. Pristupio sam problemu prvo konceptualno, odabirući programski jezik, pa onda tehnologiju realizacije. Odlučio sam se za programski jezik C#. Slijedno sam se odlučio za rad u Microsoft .NET Frameworku. Zbog lakoće korištenja, a opet bogate funkcionalnosti sam se odlučio za Visual Studio kao programsko okruženje. Nakon toga sam odabrao Windows Forms kao tehnologiju ostvarenja aplikacije. Pristup kodiranju mi je bio database-first, te sam bazu napravio koristeći SQL Server Management Studio 2014. Nakon toga je valjalo povezati podatke iz baze s formama, pri čemu sam se odlučio za Entity Framework kao logičan izbor. Aplikacija implementira cjelokupno znanje naučeno tijekom tri godine Preddiplomskog studija na FER-u, posebice gradivo naučeno na predmetu Razvoj primijenjene programske potpore. The goal of this application was to build a Hemeroteca with functional user interface that will allow for normalized data storage regarding people, event and source that articles refer to, as well as searching and referencing those articles. My approach to problem was firstly conceptual, choosing programming language and then the technology of realization.I have decided for the programming language C#. Following that, I have decided to work in Microsoft .NET Framework. Because of ease of use, but still a wealthy functionality I have decided on Visual Studio as my IDE. After that I have chosen Windows Forms as technology to accomplish my application in. My access to coding was database-first, having built a database in SQL Server Management Studio 2014. After that data had to be bound to said forms, for which I have decided to use Entity Framework as a logical choice. Application implements wholesome knowledge learned over the three years of studying for my Bachelor's degree in Program Engineering, especially the lessons learned on Development of Applied Programming Support subject.

We present a client-server framework for the development of mobile applications that use Augmented Reality (AR) to visualize geolocated data. Geo-information displays allow users to understand and respond effectively to the context in which the application is deployed. We provide a scalable and flexible architecture for the development and management of the client, the server and the data that are used by the applications. This architecture is based on the display of connected layers that represent structured information. The approach has been implemented in two case studies: the management of failures in electrical power lines, and to support hydrogeological monitoring.

Although it is possible for a Web client to strongly authenticate a Web server and communicate privately with it (e.g., by using SSL and server-side certificates) not all security problems are solved. One reason is that access control management can only be really efficient for a small number of client-server relationships. Even in such a limited scenario, it requires some security expertise to recognize and manage good certificates. There are at least three good reasons for ensuring privacy and anonymity in the Web: to prevent easy creation of user profiles (e.g., shopping habits, spending patterns), to make anonymous payment systems possible, or to protect a company's interests (e.g., information gathering in the Web can reveal its current interests or activities.

Secure channel technologies alone can not provide the sufficient protection to the server data as long as the server can not guarantee the trustworthiness of the client program which accesses the server. The current Trusted Computing solution offers the guarantee on the trustworthiness of the client program by evaluating the integrity of all executable elements on the client platform. However, this solution may not work effectively in the monolithic legacy and commodity operating system. This paper considers the remote attestation of program execution on the untrusted legacy platform. We propose an architecture, which (1) collects the run-time information of the client program in a secure, scalable and OS-transparent way, and (2) reports to the remote server the collected run-time information of the client program in a lightweight and secure way. The architecture achieves these features by exploiting the system virtualization technology, the existing VMI tools, and the time stamping functionality in TCG TPM. We give the detailed description of the architecture.

The mobile device market is growing quickly and fragmenting as it does so. Supporting mobile devices in the enterprise is getting much more complicated because of both this rapid growth worldwide and the diverse set of devices and networks.

A TCP/IP-based scientific instrument control and data distribution system have been designed and realized as part of a low cost e-learning strategy to allow an institution of learning to offer remote access to a distant, physical laboratory for collaborative experimentation using a highly embedded web server. In principle a single experimental setup in the remote laboratory can be monitored and logged simultaneously by any number of permitted clients through a simple, custom web browser interface. The system features an IEEE 802.3 compliant full-duplex Medium Access Controller (MAC) and Physical Layer Device connected to actuators and measurement transducers for control, data acquisition, distribution and logging over a local high-speed TCP/IP network. The designed system differs in its approach from most contemporary approaches in that it specifies circuit level components required to set up a low cost collaborative remote experimentation server. The system hardware comprises a server made up of a PIC18f2620 and ENC28j60 and client PC terminals interconnected through a network hub. The software comprises the firmware, written in C and Javascript, and a simple client web browser written in the Visual Basic.NET framework. This custom client browser approach circumvents the restrictions that standard client browsers place on direct file system access while optimizing data acquisition and transport while better handling several exception scenarios and implementing an authentication mechanism for secure client access. The system suggests a simplified external ROM-based client authentication solution to the problem of embedded system security that is of growing global concern. The figures of merit of the system, such as the round-trip times and the inter-sample times, are determined. Finally, typical data outputs of two networked PCs in a collaborative monitoring of temperatures in Newton's law of cooling experiment are presented.

With thin client computing, mobile users' devices only visualize the output of remote resource-intensive applications. In order to guarantee a high perceived quality to the mobile thin client users, there is an important need for (i) an efficiently dimensioned mobile thin client grid and (ii) intelligent service management for wide area thin client services, including a server selection algorithm to assign a server that can provide the desired interactivity and quality to all users. In this article, algorithms specific for thin client grid dimensioning and server selection are presented, together with the main results of a performance study.

Recently, multi client PC technologies that several users can use one set of computer at the same time are being designed to use the surplus computer resource. In general, as the existing PC management system considers only a single client PC that only one user uses a computer, various kinds of complicated problems may be arisen. This paper designs and realizes a remote management system that can monitor and control the information used in the windows based OS multi-client using WMI technology. The proposed system herein uses WMI technology and newly defined client management protocol and provides the monitoring and control functions on individual resource use information of multi-client. As well, it provides a communication function between the server and the client, and locking setting and access control functions.

Hop is a multi-tier programming language where the behavior of interacting servers and clients are expressed by a single program. Hop adheres to the standard web programming style where servers elaborate HTML pages containing JavaScript code. This JavaScript code responds locally to user's interactions but also (following the so-called Ajax style) requests services from remote servers. These services bring back new HTML fragments containing additional JavaScript code replacing or modifying the state of the client. This paper presents a continuation-based denotational semantics for a sequential subset of Hop. Though restricted to a single server and a single client, this semantics takes into account the key feature of Hop namely that the server elaborates client code to be run in the client's browser. This new client-code dynamically requests services from the server which, again, elaborate new client code to be run in the client's browser. This semantics details the programming model advocated by Hop and provides a sound basis for future studies such as security of web applications and web continuations.
