The endemic Australian bee fly genus Meomyia Evenhuis is revised, including six described species and three newly described: Meomyia hortorum sp. nov., Meomyia kochae sp. nov., Meomyia melanocincta sp. nov. Bombylius tetratrichus Walker is excluded from Meomyia and placed in Dissodesma Bowden & Li. Meomyia is characterised by the slender and elongate antennal flagellum, and the black abdominal band and dense black tuft on apex of abdomen. A key to species of Meomyia is provided. Species are found in southern Australia.

Eoconophorinadelfineae gen. et sp. nov., the oldest repre-sentative of the bee fly subfamily Bombyliinae, is described from the earliest Eocene Oise amber (France). It is charac-terized by the presence of mid tibial spurs, cylindrical ab-domen and a particular combination of wing venation char-acters. It is putatively attributed to the tribe Conophorini. This fossil is 53 Ma old, ca. 19 Ma older than the previ-ous oldest records of the subfamily, known as compression fossils. There are very few older bee flies, one from the Paleocene of Menat (France), and six from the mid-Creta-ceous Burmese amber, belonging to different subfamilies or of uncertain taxonomic position. Thus this fossil will be helpful for future calibration of phylogeny and dating of the bee flies.

We review the endemic Australian bee fly genusEusurbusRoberts (Bombyliidae, Bombyliinae) and recognize two described species and three new species. The monotypic genusBromoglycisHull is identified as a new junior synonym ofEusurbus. Another species,E. nigracinctusRoberts, is designated as the type species of a new genusZentamyiagen. nov. This new genus is similar toEusurbusbased on several combined external characters including two-segmented palp, one-segmented flagellomere, open anal cell and cellr5, and the cellbrmuch longer than cellbm. However,Zentamyiagen. nov. has a more flattened scutum, and the apex of the flagellum is tapered. Moreover, the male genitalia are very different fromEusurbus, the male epandrium is narrow and long, and its posterolateral margin has a cluster of dense hairs; the female lacks a sand chamber, and the sperm pump is long and strong. A morphological phylogeny toEusurbusspecies is provided.

A restricted Western Australia bee fly genus Pilosia Hull (Bombyliidae, Bombyliinae) is reviewed with the description of two new species, Pilosia incana Bowden & Li sp. nov. and Pilosia flava Li & Yeates sp. nov., and the type species, Pilosia flavopilosa Hull, 1973 is identified as a new junior synonym of Pilosia immutatus (Walker, 1849). This genus can easily be distinguished from other Australian genera in the subfamily by having a three-segmented antennal flagellum, a closed cell cup and a haired mediotergite. A recent morphological phylogeny of Australian Bombyliinae suggested Pilosia is sister to all the remaining Bombyliinae genera (Li & Yeates, 2018). Known as a monotypic genus for over a century, Marmasoma White, 1916 is an endemic Australian bee fly genus belonging to the tribe Eclimini of the subfamily Bombyliinae. A new species: Marmasoma hortorum sp. nov. is described based on a series of specimens from Western Australia and South Australia. This new species can be easily distinguished from the congener by the inconspicuous pale wing markings and mostly white to pale yellow scales on the body, as well as characters of both male and female genitalia. M. sumptuosum is found in south-eastern Australia, including Tasmania, and some specimens have been collected on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. M. hortorum sp. nov. occurs in south Western Australia, and a pair of specimens has been taken just north of Port Augusta in South Australia. A key to species of Marmasoma is provided.

The bee fly genus Euchariomyia Bigot is reviewed and new records from the Oriental Region are given. Five names (for four species-level taxa) have been associated with species in the genus. Examinations of types, as well as homotypic and topotypic specimens, shows all five names to belong to a highly variable single species, Euchariomyia dives Bigot. The following species are here shown to be the same as Euchariomyia dives Bigot: Bombylius pulchellus Wulp, 1880, Bombylius scintillans Brunetti, 1909, and Bombylius brunettii Senior-White, 1922, n. syn. The genus is known primarily from the southern and eastern Oriental Region and ranges into the Palaearctic in eastern China. We extend the distribution of the genus with new records in the southeastern Oriental Region [Indonesia (Sumatra), Laos, Peninsular Malaysia, and Vietnam].

The tribe Bombyliini (Diptera: Bombyliidae: Bombyliinae) was studied in the central-northern parts of Iran. The specimens were collected using Malaise traps during 2008–2011. Five genera of the tribe Bombyliini were identified: Bombylius Linnaeus, 1758 (nine species), Systoechus Loew, 1855 (two species), Bombylella Greathead, 1995 (one species), Triplasius Loew, 1855 (one species) and Bombomyia Greathead, 1995 (one species). Among them, the genus Triplasius and five species namely Bombylius major Linnaeus, 1758, B. cinerascens Mikan, 1796, B. analis diagonalis Wiedemann, 1820, B. discolor Mikan, 1796 and Triplasius pictus (Panzer, 1794) are new records for the fauna of Iran. Morphological characters, including female genitalia and geographical distribution of species, are presented. An identification key is provided for the genera and species of the tribe Bombyliini occurring in this region. Bombyliinae, one of the largest subfamilies of Bombyliidae, including 78 genera assigned to four tribes, is distributed on all continents except Antarctica. Their larvae are parasitoids, and adults are important pollinators. The Australian Bombyliinae currently has 17 described genera and 87 described species. The purpose of this study is to establish the phylogeny of the Australian members of the subfamily Bombyliinae, including the boundaries and relationships of the genera, using morphological characters. One maximum parsimony tree was generated from 83 morphological characters scored for 50 species, representing all recognised genera and some unplaced species that we considered may represent new genera. Phylogenetic analysis recovered the relationships between the recognised Australian genera of Bombyliinae and clarified generic limits. The group comprises five main clades, with the genus Pilosia being sister to the remaining Bombyliinae. On the basis of this analysis, four new genera are described: Lambkinomyia Li & Yeates, gen. nov., Dissodesma Bowden & Li, gen. nov., Nigromyia Li & Yeates, gen. nov. and Robertsmyia Li & Yeates, gen. nov. Ten new species are described: Dissodesma immaculata Li & Yeates, sp. nov., Dissodesma flava Li & Yeates, sp. nov., Dissodesma smarti Li & Yeates, sp. nov., Nigromyia collessi Li & Yeates, sp. nov., Nigromyia crocea Li & Yeates, sp. nov., Nigromyia flavimana Li & Yeates, sp. nov., Nigromyia longistriata Li & Yeates, sp. nov., Nigromyia pantherina Li & Yeates, sp. nov., Nigromyia parva Li & Yeates, sp. nov. and Nigromyia tomentosa Li & Yeates, sp. nov. Two new junior synonyms are identified: Apiformyia is a junior synonym of Eristalopsis and Brychosoma is a junior synonym of Staurostichus. The following new combinations are proposed: from Apiformyia: Eristalopsis australis (Yeates), comb. nov.; from Bombylius: Dissodesma primogenita (Walker) comb. nov.; from Brychosoma: Staurostichus aureolatus (Walker), comb. nov., Staurostichus hilaris (Walker), comb. nov. and Staurostichus pictipennis (Macquart), comb. nov.; from Laurella: Robertsmyia pallidoventris (Roberts), comb. nov.; from Mandella: Lambkinomyia cinctiventris (Roberts), comb. nov., Lambkinomyia flavovillosa (Roberts), comb. nov., Lambkinomyia pallida (Roberts), comb. nov. and Lambkinomyia rubida (Roberts), comb. nov.; and from Meomyia: Mandella australis (Guérin-Méneville), comb. nov.

The genus Euchariomyia Bigot is a small Oriental genus with three known species. It is recorded from China for the first time with one known species. Male and female genitalia of the species Euchariomyia dives Bigot are described. A key to the genera of Bombyliinae from China is presented.

Redescriptions of eight species were made: E. nuda Hull, 1971, E. amabilis (Wulp, 1881), E. beckeri Lamas & Couri, 1998, E. bicincta (Wiedemann, 1830), E. caminaria (Wiedemann, 1830), E. knutsoni Hull, 1971, E. maracajula Hull, 1971 and E. truxalia Hull, 1971, with illustrations of the types, male terminalia and spermathecae. Two synonymies - E. bicincta (Wiedemann, 1830), syn.: E. bicincta Hull, 1971; and E. nuda Hull, 1971, syn.: E. shannoni Hull, 1971 - are proposed. A key to species are presented except to E. goyaz (Macquart, 1840) and E. aperta (Macquart, 1847), which were not included in this study, as no material was examined.

The genus Heterostylum Macquart and five Neotropical species (H. ferrugineum (Fabricius, 1805), H. hirsutum (Thunberg, 1827), H. rufum (Olivier, 1789), H. haemorrhoicum (Loew, 1863) and H. pallipes Bigot, 1892) are redescribed. The other species, recently redescribed or described are only diagnosed, except for H. deani Painter, 1930, whose spermathecae are described and illustrated for the first time. The main characters of the external morphology were photographed and the male genitalia and female spermathecae illustrated. An identification key to all included species is also presented. O gênero Heterostylum Macquart e cinco espécies Neotropicais (H. ferrugineum (Fabricius, 1805), H. hirsutum (Thunberg, 1827), H. rufum (Olivier, 1789), H. haemorrhoicum (Loew, 1863) e H. pallipes Bigot, 1892) são redescritas. Apiformyia gen. nov. (Diptera: Bombyliidae) is described based on a large series of specimens from the Northern Territory of Australia. The specimens represent a single new species A. australis sp. nov. The genus belongs to the Bombyliinae, and has remarkable anatomical affinities to the New World genus Heterostylum Macquart. In particular, the head of Apiformyia has a sinuous posterior eye margin, but lacks a line bisecting the facets as found in most Anthracinae that also share such an eye margin. A sinuous posterior eye margin is uncommon in the subfamily Bombyliinae, being only found in Heterostylum and four other genera found in the New World, Afrotropical and Palaearctic regions. Additionally, Apiformyia shares with Heterostylum alone an unusual wing venation, with cell R 5 closed, and the apex of cell dm-cu meeting the fork of M 1 and M 2 , there being no stem of M 1+2 . The male genitalia of Apiformyia are generalized bombyliine in form, and do not share the particular unique features of Heterostylum such as the large recurved epiphallus and the gonostylus with apical beak-like process. The female genitalia of Apiformyia lack the sand chamber, acanthophorite spines and presents spermathecae with elongated bulbs, spermathecal ducts more than twice as long as sperm pump and sclerotized collars well developed, also differentiating the genus from Heterostylum.

The taxonomic status of the monobasic genus Cacoplox Hull, 1970 is discussed and confirmed after comparison with species of Notoschistus Bowden, 1985. The genotype and the type species C. griseatus Hull, 1970 are redescribed. An identification key to separate these two genera is also presented. Cacoplox griseatus is recorded for the first time from Argentina. It was previously known only from Chile, always at altitudes higher than 3,000 meters.

The following seventeen species of Bombyliinae (excluding the genus Bombylius), sixteen being first records and one a new species, have been found to occur in Iran so far: Dischistus breviusculus L...

The karyotypes of 34 species of Bombyliidae are described, some in greater detail than others. It is suggested that two subfamilies, the Bombyliinae (for Homoeophthalmae) and Anthracinae (for Tomophthalmae) be recognized. In the Bombyliinae, one species has 2n = 8, one 2n = 10, three 2n = 12 and one 2n = 14. In the Anthracinae, two species have 2n = 10, four 2n = 12, six 2n = 14, three 2n = 16 and thirteen 2n = 18. Seventeen complements of Bombyliinae averaged 41.4 μ in total complement length (TCL) and thirtyeight of Anthracinae averaged 46.6 μ; so the 55 complements of the Bombyliidae averaged 44.9 μ in TCL, the complements with lower chromosome numbers averaging less than those with higher numbers. Thus Bombyliinae species have lower chromosome numbers and shorter complements than Anthracinae species which tend to have longer metacentric sex chromosomes. Thus both morphologically and karyotypically the Bombyliinae appear to be more advanced whereas the Anthracinae are a more primitive but highly variable group of species.

The Neotropical genus Neodischistus Painter has a distribution restricted to South (Brazil and Argentina) and Central America (Panama). The genus is composed of two previously described species that are herein revised: N. currani Painter and N. collaris Painter. One new Brazilian species is described: N. marstoni sp. nov. Illustrations of the external morphology of adults and male and female terminalia are also included. An identification key to the species is presented and a short discussion about species distributions is added.
