The Moral Foreign Language Effect (MFLE) is characterized by increased utilitarian decision-making when bilinguals respond to moral dilemmas in their foreign language. While previous research has given us a better understanding of this phenomenon, few studies have investigated how foreign language experience influences the MFLE. The present study investigated whether differences in foreign language proficiency, immersion, or dominance modulated the emergence of the MFLE. Mandarin–English bilingual young adults responded to a series of moral dilemmas in either their native or foreign language. Participants also provided ratings of permissibility and distress after reading each dilemma. We report a dilemma-specific MFLE that was modulated by differences in foreign language experience. Most significant was the observation that separable dimensions of foreign language experience interact when modulating the MFLE in a manner that is dilemma-specific. These findings emphasize the importance of considering differences in foreign language experience across multiple dimensions when investigating the MFLE.

In order to estimate the deficiency of a city in its ability to prevent and control risks, as well as to evaluate the corresponding measures, this paper focuses on multi-attribute decision making based on LINMAP method and Manhattan distance at linguistic q-rung orthopair fuzzy. Manhattan distance is a new product that combines clustering distance with linguistic q-rung orthopair fuzzy to be able to use the data more effectively for measurement. LINMAP method is a decision making method based on ideal points, which can solve the weights as well as provide ideal solutions by linear programming model. The combination of the two can create a new decision-making method, which can effectively evaluate the decision scheme of social public facilities according to the actual needs of decision-makers. The new method has the following advantages: (1) the conditions of linguistic fuzzy numbers can be applied more comprehensively, making the decision more realistic and effective; (2) the Manhattan distance is more in line with the human way of thinking and closer to life; (3) after comparative study, the results produced by this method have certain reliability.

Enabling high data-rate uplink cellular connectivity for drones is a challenging problem, since a flying drone has a higher likelihood of having line-of-sight propagation to base stations that terrestrial UEs normally do not have line-of-sight to. This may result in uplink inter-cell interference and uplink performance degradation for the neighboring ground UEs when drones transmit at high data-rates (e.g., video streaming). We address this problem from a cellular operator's standpoint to support drone-sourced video streaming of a point of interest. We propose a low-complexity, closed-loop control system for Open-RAN architectures that jointly optimizes the drone's location in space and its transmission directionality to support video streaming and minimize its uplink interference impact on the network. We prototype and experimentally evaluate the proposed control system on a dedicated outdoor multi-cell RAN testbed, which is the first measurement campaign of its kind. Furthermore, we perform a large-scale simulation assessment of the proposed control system using the actual cell deployment topologies and cell load profiles of a major US cellular carrier. The proposed Open-RAN control scheme achieves an average 19% network capacity gain over traditional BS-constrained control solutions and satisfies the application data-rate requirements of the drone (e.g., to stream an HD video).

Background. Solute carrier organic anion transporter family member 4A1 (SLCO4A1), a member of solute carrier organic anion family, is a key gene regulating bile metabolism, organic anion transport, and ABC transport. However, the association of SLCO4A1 with prognosis and tumor immune infiltration in colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) remains indistinct. Methods. Firstly, we explored the expression level of SLCO4A1 in COAD via GEPIA, Oncomine, and UALCAN databases. Secondly, we used the Kaplan-Meier plotter and PrognoScan databases to investigate the effect of SLCO4A1 on prognosis in COAD patients. In addition, the correlation between SLCO4A1 and tumor immune infiltration was studied by using TIMER and TISIDB databases. Results. Our results showed that SLCO4A1 was overexpressed in COAD tissues. At the same time, our study showed that high expression of SLCO4A1 was associated with poor overall survival, disease-free survival, and disease-specific survival in COAD patients. The expression level of SLCO4A1 was negatively linked to the infiltrating levels of B cells, CD8+ T cells, and dendritic cells in COAD. Moreover, the expression of SLCO4A1 was significantly correlated with numerous immune markers in COAD. Conclusions. These results indicated that SLCO4A1 could be associated with the prognosis of COAD patients and the levels of tumor immune infiltration. Our study suggested that SLCO4A1 could be a valuable biomarker for evaluating prognosis and tumor immune infiltration in COAD patients.

The fierceness of breast cancer is obvious for the patients and the field of medical studies for its malignant destruction in the human body. The failure in diagnosis may put patients in suffering from high financial pressure and may cause the patients’ physical health to deteriorate. The key in this research of contrasting different kinds of algorithms and varied types of classifications is to support physicians to make a better judgment to prevent misdiagnosis. The research introduced many aspects of data on breast cancer detection to make the data inputs of algorithms able to satisfy doctors’ needs. Moreover, the varied kinds of features will specify and confirm the presence of breast cancer tumours instead of treating them as a part of the benign tissues. With the information above, the research found a difference in accuracy between the classification and tried to make a comparison to conclude that most satisfy and support the actual use of these data to physicians, who may see the symptoms with misunderstanding. Thus, Random Forest was qualified to be evaluated as the most applicable algorithm of its excellence in processing higher dimensional, which is dynamic, data.

The loading strategy of cocatalysts affects its activity exerting and atom utilization. Here, a novel strategy for loading precious metal (Pt) cocatalysts by means of ultrathin N-doped carbon layer is reported. The strategy is based on a pyrolysis process of predesigned N-containing polymers and Pt complexes on hard-template surface, during which Pt can be reduced by carbon from pyrolysis at high temperatures. Finally, the hollow TiO2 composite with stable and dispersed Pt on its inner surface was prepared. It shows an ultrahigh photocatalytic H2 production activity as high as 25.7 mmol h−1 g−1 with methanol as sacrificial regent, and displays an apparent quantum yield as 13.2%. The improved photocatalytic activity and stability can be attributed to the highly dispersed and ultrafine Pt nanoparticles, enhanced interaction between Pt-species and carbon support, fast photo-excited electron transport from the high graphitization degree of NC layers, ample oxygen vacancies/defects, as well as the manipulated local charge distribution of Pt/NC-layer configuration. Additionally, the universality of the proposed strategy was demonstrated by replacing metal sources (such as, Ru and Pd). This work presented a promising strategy for the design and development of novel photocatalysts, which shows a broad application prospect.

We develop an approach to solve the Barberis casino gambling model [Barberis N (2012) A model of casino gambling. Management Sci. 58(1):35–51] in which a gambler whose preferences are specified by the cumulative prospect theory (CPT) must decide when to stop gambling by a prescribed deadline. We assume that the gambler can assist their decision using independent randomization. The problem is inherently time inconsistent because of the probability weighting in CPT, and we study both precommitted and naïve stopping strategies. We turn the original problem into a computationally tractable mathematical program from which we devise an algorithm to compute optimal precommitted rules that are randomized and Markovian. The analytical treatment enables us to confirm the economic insights of Barberis for much longer time horizons and to make additional predictions regarding a gambler’s behavior, including that, with randomization, a gambler may enter the casino even when allowed to play only once and that it is prevalent that a naïf never stops loss. SUMMARY Large continental earthquakes are infrequent, but they are important for understanding active tectonics. Many pre-1990, magnitude greater than 7 earthquakes have not been well documented due to a lack of data. The declassification of KeyHole (KH) imagery provides opportunities for investigating those historical events. In this study, we present new geodetic observations of surface deformation from the 1976 November 24 Ms 7.3 Chaldiran earthquake in eastern Turkey. We use various historical KH imagery and modern Pleiades stereo imagery to determine the coseismic deformation, providing new constraints on the 1976 rupture. Based on the image measurements, we resolve the coseismic slip at depth. The inverted slip from a simple elastic dislocation model, ∼4.0 m at shallow depth of the Hidirmentes segment, is larger than the surface displacement, around 3 m from previous field surveys, suggesting that the coseismic deformation is a combination of slip on the primary fault with 30 ± 16 per cent off-fault deformation. We also measure cumulative offsets at two sites with well-preserved features, and find a constant ratio of horizontal to vertical offsets throughout the past few earthquake cycles. Both the observed constant slip ratio in this study and offset clusters from previous field measurements support that the Chaldiran fault exhibits a characteristic slip behaviour in the late Quaternary. By combining all the geodetic and geological observations in the broader region, we also present a brief analysis of the slip rate of the Chaldiran fault.
