The two species previously included in the genus Hayesiana Fletcher, 1982 were studied. The life history of the sole currently included species, Hayesiana triopus (Westwood, 1847) is illustrated in colour for the first time. Field records of Hayesiana triopus and Dahira farintaenia (Zhu & Wang, 1997) (previously Hayesiana farintaenia) are given, with the first description of the female genitalia of the latter. The diagnostic features and DNA barcoding data of Hayesiana triopus and Dahira farintaenia are also discussed.

In eukaryotes, the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) and the autophagy-lysosome pathway (ALP) are essential for maintaining cellular proteostasis and associated with cancer progression. Our previous studies have demonstrated that phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN), one of the most frequently mutated genes in human cancers, limits proteasome abundance and determines chemosensitivity to proteasome inhibitors in cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). However, whether PTEN regulates the lysosome pathway remains unclear.We tested the effects of PTEN on lysosome biogenesis and exosome secretion using loss- and gain-of-function strategies in CCA cell lines. Using in vitro dephosphorylation assays, we explored the regulatory mechanism between PTEN and the key regulator of lysosome biogenesis, transcription factor EB (TFEB). Using the migration assays, invasion assays, and trans-splenic liver metastasis mouse models, we evaluated the function of PTEN deficiency, TFEB-mediated lysosome biogenesis, and exosome secretion on tumor metastasis. Moreover, we investigated the clinical significance of PTEN expression and exosome secretion by retrospective analysis.PTEN facilitated lysosome biogenesis and acidification through its protein phosphatase activity to dephosphorylate TFEB at Ser211. Notably, PTEN deficiency increased exosome secretion by reducing lysosome-mediated degradation of multi-vesicular bodies (MVBs), which further facilitated the proliferation and invasion of CCA. TFEB agonist curcumin analog C1 restrained the metastatic phenotype caused by PTEN deficiency in mouse models, and we highlighted the correlation between PTEN deficiency and exosome secretion in clinical cohorts.In CCA, PTEN deficiency impairs lysosome biogenesis to facilitate exosome secretion and cancer metastasis in a TFEB phosphorylation-dependent manner.

Reducing the width of safe coal pillar near geological structures, such as a water-conducting fault, to improve the extraction ratio of coal seam is a major concern that needs to be addressed urgently for mining shallow coal resources in China. To tackle the contradiction between improving the extraction ratio of resources and the disaster caused by reducing the width of the waterproof coal pillar, this study focuses on retaining the coal (rock) pillar near the water-conducting fault and proposes a novel method for calculating the waterproofing of the coal pillar precisely. We consider the different location relationships between the water-conducting fault, confined aquifer and coal seam, and suggest the principle of retaining the waterproofing of the coal pillar. First, we develop a mechanical model describing a waterproof coal pillar near the water-conducting fault by using elastic–plastic mechanics theory and subsequently calculate the length of plastic zone of the coal pillar under water pressure of the fault by using the limit equilibrium method. Furthermore, we use FLAC3D software to simulate the stress distribution of the coal seam roof and floor under fault water pressure. Subsequently, based on the Mohr–Coulomb strength criterion, we propose a method to calculate the width of waterproof coal pillars by combining the plastic zone with the maximum principal stress propagation line. Ultimately, we assess and discuss the accuracy and simplicity of this method by combining it with engineering methods.

The photothermal catalytic oxidation of CH4 was performed on a series of halogen anion-intercalated MgAl-LDHs. MgAl-F exhibited 86.5% selectivity for CO and completely inhibited the production of CO2, arising from the strong interaction of F− with OH on the host layer.

The long-term situation of children with spinal cord injury (SCI) was investigated, and suggestions for helping them better return to the society were provided.SCI patients less than 18 years old hospitalized in Beijing Boai Hospital from January 2011 to December 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Information including motor function, complications, characteristic changes, self-care abilities, school attendance and social participation were collected by telephone interview and electronic questionnaire. All the answers were statistically analyzed.A total of 86 cases were enrolled, 77 girls and 9 boys, with a median injury age of 6 years and 2 months. The follow-up time was 3-130 months. The main cause of trauma in these children was sport injury (66.3%), the thoracic spinal cord was involved the most (91.9%), and complete SCIs accounted for the majority (76.7%). In terms of complications, children with complete SCIs were more likely to have urinary incontinence, constipation and characteristic changes (p 0.05); whereas the incomplete SCIs often have spasticity (p 0.05). As to the daily living abilities, children with incomplete lumbar SCIs were more capable to accomplish personal hygiene, transfer, and bathing independently than those with complete injuries, or cervical/thoracic SCIs, respectively (p 0.05). Moreover, children older than 9 years care more able to dress and transfer independently than the youngers (p 0.05). Wheelchair users accounted for 84.9% and more than half of them were able to propel wheelchair independently, and those who move passively in wheelchairs were mostly introverted kids (p 0.05). Almost all (93.8%) children with incomplete injuries were able to walk independently. Most (79.1%) children continued to attending school, and 41.9% participated in interest classes. Unfortunately, 67.4% of the children spent less time playing with their peers than before the injury.SCIs impair physical structures and function of children, affect their independence in daily living, and restrict school attendance and social interaction. Comprehensive rehabilitation after injury is a systematic work. Medical staff and caregivers should not only pay attention to neurological function, but also help them improve self-care abilities. It is also important to balance rehabilitation training and school work and social participation.

The adaptor proteins play a crucially important role in regulating lymphocyte activation. Rapid and efficient identification of adaptor proteins is essential for understanding their functions. However, biochemical methods require not only expensive experimental costs, but also long experiment cycles and more personnel. Therefore, a computational method that could accurately identify adaptor proteins is urgently needed. To solve this issue, we developed a classifier that combined the support vector machine (SVM) with the composition of k-Spaced Amino Acid Pairs (CKSAAP) and the amino acid composition (AAC) to identify adaptor proteins. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to select the optimized features which could generate the maximum prediction performance. By examining the proposed model on independent data, we found that the 447 optimized features could achieve an accuracy of 92.39% with an AUC of 0.9766, demonstrating the powerful capabilities of our model. We hope that the proposed model could provide more clues for studying adaptor proteins.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) are a rapidly developing therapeutic approach in cancer treatment that has shown remarkable activity in breast cancer. Currently, there are two ADCs approved for the treatment of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive breast cancer, one for triple-negative breast cancer, and multiple investigational ADCs in clinical trials. However, drug resistance has been noticed in clinical use, especially in trastuzumab emtansine. Here, the mechanisms of ADC resistance are summarized into four categories: antibody-mediated resistance, impaired drug trafficking, disrupted lysosomal function, and payload-related resistance. To overcome or prevent resistance to ADCs, innovative development strategies and combination therapy options are being investigated. Analyzing predictive biomarkers for optimal therapy selection may also help to prevent drug resistance.

Background The net clinical benefit of antithrombotic therapy (ATT) reflects the concomitant effects of bleeding and ischemic events. Objectives We sought to assess the overall effect of the modulation or escalation of ATT on all-cause mortality as well as ischemic and bleeding events. Methods We performed a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials comparing escalation or modulation of ATT versus standard ATT in patients with coronary artery disease. A total of 32 studies with 160,659 subjects were enrolled in this analysis. Results Neither escalation nor modulation of ATT has significant effect on all-cause mortality (escalation: relative risk [RR]: 0.94, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.85–1.04; modulation: RR: 0.90; 95% CI: 0.81–1.01). Compared with standard ATT therapy, escalation of ATT was associated with lower risk of myocardial infarction (MI; RR: 0.84, 95% CI: 0.76–0.94), but had a higher risk of major or minor bleeding (RR: 1.38, 95% CI: 1.15–1.66). Modulation of ATT was associated with a similar risk of MI (RR: 1.07, 95% CI: 0.96–1.19), but a reduced risk for major or minor bleeding (RR: 0.58, 95% CI: 0.51–0.66). Meta-regression combining both escalation and modulation studies found that the heterogeneity of all-cause mortality was mainly attributed to the heterogeneity of major or minor bleeding (adjusted R-squared = 100.00%, p = 0.004), but not to MI. Conclusion Either escalation or modulation of ATT has little benefit in all-cause mortality. The variability of the treatment effects on all-cause mortality was mainly attributed to the variability of major or minor bleeding, but not to MI.

The scaled-up synthesis of organic-free monolayer nanomaterials is highly desirable, especially in obtaining green energy by electrocatalysis. In this study, a method for the scaled-up synthesis of the series of monolayer layered double hydroxides (LDHs) without the addition of organic solvents is reported via the separate nucleation and aging steps process. The resulting monolayer LDHs with the thicknesses of less than 1 nm showed a narrow thickness distribution. X-ray absorption fine-structure revealed that monolayer NiFe-LDH nanosheets have a number of oxygen and metal vacancies defects. As a practical application, monolayer NiFe-LDH nanosheets containing defects showed an enhanced electrocatalytic water oxidation activity compared with that of bulk NiFe-LDH. Density functional theory calculations uncovered that excellent catalytic activity is attributed to vacancies defects. The proposed method is an economical and universally applicable strategy for the scaled-up production of monolayer LDHs.

This paper investigates the bifurcation issue of fractional-order four-neuron recurrent neural network with multiple delays. First, the stability and Hopf bifurcation of the system are studied by analyzing the associated characteristic equations. It is shown that the dynamics of delayed fractional-order neural networks not only depend heavily on the communication delay but also significantly affects the applications with different delays. Second, we numerically demonstrate the effect of the order on the Hopf bifurcation. Two numerical examples illustrate the validity of the theoretical results at the end.
