Interplay between coding theory and combinatorial $t$-designs has been a hot topic for many years for combinatorialists and coding theorists. Some infinite families of cyclic codes supporting infinite families of $3$-designs have been constructed in the past 50 years. However, no infinite family of negacyclic codes supporting an infinite family of $3$-designs has been reported in the literature. This is the main motivation of this paper. Let $q=p^m$, where $p$ is an odd prime and $m \geq 2$ is an integer. The objective of this paper is to present an infinite family of cyclic codes over $\gf(q)$ supporting an infinite family of $3$-designs and two infinite families of negacyclic codes over $\gf(q^2)$ supporting two infinite families of $3$-designs. The parameters and the weight distributions of these codes are determined. The subfield subcodes of these negacyclic codes over $\gf(q)$ are studied. Three infinite families of almost MDS codes are also presented. A constacyclic code over GF($4$) supporting a $4$-design and six open problems are also presented in this paper.

RGB-D salient object detection aims to detect visually distinctive objects or regions from a pair of the RGB image and the depth image. State-of-the-art RGB-D saliency detectors are mainly based on convolutional neural networks but almost suffer from an intrinsic limitation relying on the labeled data, thus degrading detection accuracy in complex cases. In this work, we present a self-supervised self-ensembling network (S $^3$ Net) for semi-supervised RGB-D salient object detection by leveraging the unlabeled data and exploring a self-supervised learning mechanism. To be specific, we first build a self-guided convolutional neural network (SG-CNN) as a baseline model by developing a series of three-layer cross-model feature fusion (TCF) modules to leverage complementary information among depth and RGB modalities and formulating an auxiliary task that predicts a self-supervised image rotation angle. After that, to further explore the knowledge from unlabeled data, we assign SG-CNN to a student network and a teacher network, and encourage the saliency predictions and self-supervised rotation predictions from these two networks to be consistent on the unlabeled data. Experimental results on seven widely-used benchmark datasets demonstrate that our network quantitatively and qualitatively outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

Cellulose is a potential alternative to petroleum-derived polymers, and cellulose membranes are used in many applications such as sensors, flexible materials, and functional membranes. Most bottom-up methods are energy-, chemical-, and time-intensive compared to top-down methods for preparing cellulose membranes. Additionally, most methods to improve the hydrophobicity of cellulose membranes to increase their lifetime are complex and require large amounts of organic solvents. To balance sustainability, degradability, and service life from a whole life cycle perspective, which is the biggest challenge for the industrialization of cellulose membranes, a top-down approach was used here to prepare cellulose membranes using camphor pine, walnut, and loofah materials. The effect of low temperature heat treatment on the prepared membranes’ wettability and water stability were investigated. The results showed that the water stability of loofah cellulose membrane was influenced by both surface and internal wettability due to the non-homogeneous structure. The heat treatment temperature of 200 °C for loofah cellulose membrane, 150 °C for camphor pine cellulose membrane, and 225 °C for walnut cellulose membrane was more effective.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is a multifactorial skeletal disease involving mechanical, genetic, systemic, and biological factors, and it is characterized by apoptosis of the nucleus pulposus cells and breakdown of the extracellular matrix (ECM), which will impair the structure and function of the intervertebral disc (IVD), and cause low back pain. Recently, the piezo1 is recognized as a critical mechanically activated ion channel of IDD. Numerous studies have reported that the piezo1 ion channel was aberrantly activated in the degenerated disc tissues and deeply participated in the pathogenesis of IDD. Inactivating or interfering with the piezo1 channel could effectively prevent the progression of IDD under the experimental conditions. It may be a promising target for the prevention and treatment of the disabling disease. Therefore, we have to make a comprehensive investigation and understanding of the mechanisms and functions of the piezo1 in the biomechanics of the spine. This study mainly elucidates the role of the piezo1 channel in IDD, which may facilitate the development of therapeutic targets for this disease.

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to explore the clinical and neuroradiologic properties of atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumors. Methods: Data from 6 pediatric patients with atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumors, which mainly contained the features of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT), was retrospectively analyzed. Follow-up was conducted in all patients through clinic services and/or telephone consultation. Results: The patients included 4 males and 2 females, aged from 3.2 to 83.1 months at the initial diagnosis. All patients had MRI scans. Two patients underwent 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT scintigraphy preoperatively and 4 postoperatively. All primary lesions were located in the cranial cavity and the average diameter of lesions was 37.2 mm. Cerebrospinal fluid spread on enhanced T1-weighted images were found in 2 patients. Multiple metastases were found on MRI and PET/CT scans, which were located at cranial cavity, spinal cord, lung and lymph node. The primary and metastatic lesions showed evident uptake of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose. Two patients underwent total tumor removal, and 4 patients underwent subtotal removal. None of the patients received shunt surgery. Follow-up was performed in all 6 patients. One patient survived event-free 38.4 months after resection. The mean overall survival of the remaining 5 patients was 5.1 months. Conclusion: We identified specific PET/CT and MRI features that can facilitate the recognition of atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumors prior to biopsy.

Silylation is an effective means of cellulose modification. However, the condensation reaction process between the hydrolysis products of the silane coupling agent and cellulose, as well as the structure of the coating, which both have a strong influence on the wettability, are still controversial. In this paper, the reactions of different methyltriethoxysilane hydrolysis products with cellulose were simulated via the density functional theory method. The reaction activity centers of the different methyltriethoxysilane hydrolysis products in an ethanol solution were analyzed via the front-line orbital theory and the Fukui function. The silylation reaction of different methyltriethoxysilane hydrolysis products in an ethanol solution on the cellulose surface were investigated via the transition state theory. The results show that although the initial hydrolysis product has the lowest grafting energy barrier, considering the whole process of grafting and condensation on the cellulose surface, the hydrolysis product with two hydroxyl groups is more favorable for the growth of organosilicon on the cellulose surface, so it is desirable to control the reaction where this product is dominant. In addition, the silylation process on the cellulose surface is more inclined to a multilayer coating mechanism.

Objective. To investigate the mechanisms underlying the development of right heart-associated PE. Background. Right heart-related pulmonary edema (PE) refers to PE resulting from impaired right heart function caused by primary or secondary factors, which is common in critically ill patients. Although the clinical manifestations of different types of right heart-related PE are similar, the pathophysiological changes and treatment methods are significantly different. According to the hemodynamic mechanism, right heart-related PE is primarily classified into two types. One is the increase of right heart flow, including extravascular compression, intravascular compression, cardiac compression, and cardiac decompression. The other type is the abnormal distribution of pulmonary circulation, including obstruction, resistance, pleural decompression, or negative pressure. With the development of hemodynamic monitoring, hemodynamic data not only help us understand the specific pathogenesis of right heart-related PE but also assist us in determining the direction of therapy and enabling individualized treatment. Summary. This article presents a review on right heart-associated PE, with a perspective of hemodynamic analysis, and emphasizes the importance of right heart function in the management of circulation. Understanding the mechanism of right heart-associated PE will not only aid in better monitoring right heart function but also help intensivists make a more accurate identification of various types of PE in the clinic.

Because of its significant advantage of fast postoperative recovery, natural orifice specimen extraction surgery (NOSES) has attracted increasing attention worldwide. However, the NOSES in gastric cancer (GC) treatment still needs more clinical practice, especially for the rare anatomical anomaly. Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a rare autosomal recessive anatomical anomaly with an incidence ranging between 1/8,000 and 1/25,000 births. We present a video of transvaginal specimen extraction following totally laparoscopic D2 distal gastrectomy performed in a 59-year-old woman known to have SIT. Preoperative investigations revealed that the patient had early GC at the antrum. A gastroscopy report from the local hospital showed signet-ring cell carcinoma. The preoperative computed tomography scan revealed irregular thickening of the gastric wall at the junction of the greater curvature and antrum without metastasis to the lymph nodes. In total, laparoscopic D2 distal gastrectomy was performed with transvaginal specimen extraction. Billroth II with Braun anastomosis was performed for reconstruction. The length of the operation was 240 min without intraoperative complications and with minimal blood loss of 50 ml. The patient was uneventfully discharged on postoperative Day 7. The final pathology confirmed signet-ring cell carcinoma confined to the mucosal muscle without metastasis in 16 lymph nodes. Transvaginal specimen extraction following totally laparoscopic D2 distal gastrectomy can be safely performed in patients with SIT and has similar surgical outcomes to usual laparoscopic gastrectomy.

BackgroundCardiac involvement constitutes the primary cause of mortality in patients with Danon disease (DD). This study aimed to explore the cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) features and progressions of DD cardiomyopathies in a family with long-term follow-up.MethodsSeven patients (five females and two males), belonging to the same family and afflicted with DD, were enrolled in this study between 2017 and 2022. The cardiac structure, function, strain, tissue characteristics on CMR and their evolutions during follow-up were analyzed.ResultsThree young female patients (3/7, 42.86%) exhibited normal cardiac morphology. Four patients (4/7, 57.14%) displayed left ventricle hypertrophy (LVH), and mostly with septal thickening (3/4, 75%). A single male case (1/7, 14.3%) showed decreased LV ejection fraction (LVEF). Nonetheless, the global LV strain of the four adult patients decreased in different degree. The global strain of adolescent male patients was decreased compared to the age-appropriate female patients. Five patients (5/7, 71.43%) exhibited late gadolinium enhancement (LGE), with proportion ranging from 31.6% to 59.7% (median value 42.7%). The most common LGE location was the LV free wall (5/5, 100%), followed by right ventricle insertion points (4/5, 80%) and intraventricular septum (2/5, 40%). Segmental radial strain (rs = −0.586), circumferential strain (r = 0.589), and longitudinal strain (r = 0.514) were all moderately correlated with the LGE proportions of corresponding segments (P ConclusionsLeft ventricular hypertrophy, LGE with sparing or relatively less involved IVS, and LV dysfunction are prominent CMR features of Danon cardiomyopathy. Strain and T1 mapping may have advantages in detecting early-stage dysfunction and myocardial abnormalities in DD patients, respectively. Multi-parametric CMR can serve as an optimal instrument for detecting DD cardiomyopathies.

BackgroundAlthough dexmedetomidine (DEX) is widely used during the perioperative period in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), its clinical effects on liver function and postoperative inflammation are unclear. This study aimed to explore effects of DEX on postoperative liver function and inflammation in patients with HCC after hepatectomy.MethodsA retrospective cohort study with propensity score matching was performed. A total of 494 patients who underwent hepatectomy from June 2019 to July 2020 and fulfilled the eligibility criteria were included in this study. Baseline data, liver function indexes and inflammation-related biomarkers were collected and compared between the two groups. Survival analysis was conducted to investigate the effects of DEX on the overall survival (OS) of patients. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to minimize bias between the two groups.ResultsThe study cohort comprised 189 patients in the DEX-free group and 305 patients in the DEX group. Patients in the DEX group had lower levels of alanine transaminase (ALT, P = 0.018) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH, P = 0.046) and higher level of serum albumin (ALB, P < 0.001) than patients in the DEX-free group before discharge. A total of 107 pairs of patients were successfully matched by PSM. Results consistently suggested that ALT and LDH levels were significantly lower (P = 0.044 and P = 0.046, respectively) and ALB levels were significantly higher (P = 0.002) in the DEX group than in the DEX-free group in the early postoperative period. No significant differences of inflammation-related biomarkers were observed between two groups after PSM. Neither the Kaplan–Meier survival analysis nor the multiple Cox regression survival analysis identified DEX as a contributing factor that would affect the OS of patients after PSM.ConclusionDEX exerts protective effects on liver function while has little effects on inflammation-related biomarkers in the early postoperative period in patients undergoing hepatectomy due to HCC.

BackgroundHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), one of the most common cancers worldwide, exhibits high immune heterogeneity and mortality. Emerging studies suggest that copper (Cu) plays a key role in cell survival. However, the relationship between Cu and tumor development remains unclear.MethodsWe investigated the effects of Cu and cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) in patients with HCC in the TCGA-LIHC (The Cancer Genome Atlas-Liver cancer, n = 347) and ICGC-LIRI-JP (International Cancer Genome Consortium-Liver Cancer-Riken-Japan, n = 203) datasets. Prognostic genes were identified by survival analysis, and a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) regression model was constructed using the prognostic genes in the two datasets. Additionally, we analyzed differentially expressed genes and signal pathway enrichment. We also evaluated the effects of CRGs on tumor immune cell infiltration and their co-expression with immune checkpoint genes (ICGs) and performed validation in different tumor immune microenvironments (TIMs). Finally, we performed validation using clinical samples and predicted the prognosis of patients with HCC using a nomogram.ResultsA total of 59 CRGs were included for analysis, and 15 genes that significantly influenced the survival of patients in the two datasets were identified. Patients were grouped by risk scores, and pathway enrichment analysis suggested that immune-related pathways were substantially enriched in both datasets. Tumor immune cell infiltration analysis and clinical validation revealed that PRNP (Prion protein), SNCA (Synuclein alpha), and COX17 (Cytochrome c oxidase copper chaperone COX17) may be closely correlated with immune cell infiltration and ICG expression. A nomogram was constructed to predict the prognosis of patients with HCC using patients’ characteristics and risk scores.ConclusionCRGs may regulate the development of HCC by targeting the TIM and ICGs. CRGs such as PRNP, SNCA, and COX17 could be promising targets for HCC immune therapy in the future.

BackgroundIntratumor heterogeneity is a hallmark of most solid tumors, including breast cancers. We applied spatial transcriptomics and single-cell RNA-sequencing technologies to profile spatially resolved cell populations within estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) metastatic breast cancers and elucidate their importance in estrogen-dependent tumor growth.MethodsSpatial transcriptomics and single-cell RNA-sequencing were performed on two patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) of “ER-high” metastatic breast cancers with opposite estrogen-mediated growth responses: estrogen-suppressed GS3 (80–100% ER) and estrogen-stimulated SC31 (30–75% ER) models. The analyses included samples treated with and without 17β-estradiol. The findings were validated via scRNA-seq analyses on “ER-low” estrogen-accelerating PDX, GS1 (5% ER). The results from our spatial and single-cell analyses were further supported by the analysis of a publicly available single cell dataset and a protein-based dual immunohistochemical (IHC) evaluation using three important clinical markers [i.e., ER, progesterone receptor (PR), and Ki67]. The translational implication of these results was assessed by clinical outcome analyses on public breast cancer cohorts.ResultsOur novel space-gene-function study revealed a “proliferative” cell population in addition to three major spatially distinct compartments within ER+metastatic breast cancers. These compartments showed functional diversity (i.e., estrogen-responsive, proliferative, hypoxia-induced, and inflammation-related). The “proliferative (MKI67+)” population, not “estrogen-responsive” compartment, was crucial for estrogen-dependent tumor growth, leading to the acquisition of luminal B features. The cells with induction of typical estrogen-responsive genes such asPGRwere not directly linked to estrogen-dependent proliferation. Additionally, the dual IHC analyses demonstrated the distinct contribution of the Ki67+proliferative cells toward estrogen-mediated growth and their response to palbociclib, a CDK4/6 inhibitor. The gene signatures developed from the proliferative, hypoxia-induced, and inflammation-related compartments were significantly correlated with worse clinical outcomes, while patients with the high estrogen-responsive scores showed better prognosis, confirming that the estrogen-responsive compartment would not be directly associated with estrogen-dependent tumor progression.ConclusionsFor the first time, our study elucidated a “proliferative” cell population distinctly distributed in ER+metastatic breast cancers. They contribute differently toward progression of these cancers, and the gene signature in the “proliferative” compartment is an important determinant of luminal cancer subtypes.

It is well-known that cyclic codes have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. In recent years, antiprimitive BCH codes have attracted a lot of attention. The objective of this paper is to study BCH codes of this type over finite fields and analyse their parameters. Some lower bounds on the minimum distance of antiprimitive BCH codes are given. The BCH codes presented in this paper have good parameters in general, containing many optimal linear codes. In particular, two open problems about the minimum distance of BCH codes of this type are partially solved in this paper.

The alkaline slag produced in the process of recovering heat and Na2CO3 in the black liquor heat treatment of papermaking leads to damage to refractory materials. In this paper, the wetting and erosion cladding properties of alkaline slag on the surface of dense corundum refractories were studied. The experiment was conducted in a high-temperature tubular furnace with different atmospheres (oxidizing atmosphere and reducing atmosphere), various heating rates (10 °C/min, 15 °C/min, 20 °C/min), and multiple angles between the refractory and horizontal planes (0°, 5°, 10°, 15°, 20°). The wetting process of the slag on the refractory surface was observed by a CCD camera. The apparent contact angle and slag column height were measured with ImageJ software. The microstructure, element change and compounds of the cladding layer and interface layer were analysed using SEM-EDS and XRD. The results show that the corrosion of refractories by the slag comes from the following procedure: alumina dissolved and migrated to the cladding layer, then the slag penetrated the dense corundum refractories through the grain boundaries and the channels formed by the dissolution of alumina. Thermodynamic calculation and analysis of experimental results show that the slag and refractories dissolved each other at high temperature and reacted with each other to form mullite, nepheline and feldspar.

Pressure vessels are always under different hazards such as leaking, fracturing, and unknown deformation. In this work, the novel micro-nano sensors were introduced based on flexible printed circuit (FPC). The temperature cycling and hydraulic pressure cycling experiments were carried out. This kind of combined sensor can be embedded and arranged between inner tank and fiber layer without any defect. The experimental results show the new sensor can detect not only thermal strain, but also elastic deformation and plastic deformation caused by pressure. Also can reflect the yield limit of COPV, which can ensure the safety of manufacture.

Contextual biasing is an important and challenging task for end-to-end automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems, which aims to achieve better recognition performance by biasing the ASR system to particular context phrases such as person names, music list, proper nouns, etc. Existing methods mainly include contextual LM biasing and adding bias encoder into end-to-end ASR models. In this work, we introduce a novel approach to do contextual biasing by adding a contextual spelling correction model on top of the end-to-end ASR system. We incorporate contextual information into a sequence-to-sequence spelling correction model with a shared context encoder. Our proposed model includes two different mechanisms: autoregressive (AR) and non-autoregressive (NAR). We propose filtering algorithms to handle large-size context lists, and performance balancing mechanisms to control the biasing degree of the model. We demonstrate the proposed model is a general biasing solution which is domain-insensitive and can be adopted in different scenarios. Experiments show that the proposed method achieves as much as 51% relative word error rate (WER) reduction over ASR system and outperforms traditional biasing methods. Compared to the AR solution, the proposed NAR model reduces model size by 43.2% and speeds up inference by 2.1 times., Accepted in IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing (TASLP)

Inductive power transfer (IPT) systems with multiple output voltages are potential to supply a variety of loads simultaneously. This article proposes an IPT system with multiple semiactive rectifier cells (SARCs) connected in series at the receiver (Rx) side. These SARCs are independent of each other and their output voltages can be regulated individually with single receiver coil, which reduces the cost and volume. The proposed IPT configuration has the advantages of high flexibility, simple control, and no cross regulation. Considering that the SARC may cause additional reactance and lead to detuning of the Rx side, variable inductor is introduced to ensure the full tuning condition. Thus, the proposed IPT system can maintain zero phase angle operation with unity power factor in the whole load range, minimizing the reactive power losses. In addition, both primary inverter and the SARCs can achieve zero voltage switching. To verify the feasibility and validity of the proposed IPT system, an experimental prototype with two outputs of 640 W/150 V and 400 W/120 V is built.

Background To investigate the feasibility, safety and efficacy of the right-side approach to enter Retzius space in laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal bilateral inguinal hernia repair. Methods Retrospective analysis was performed on 189 patients who were diagnosed with bilateral inguinal hernia preoperatively or intraoperatively and underwent selective TAPP in the General Surgery I Section of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Hospital from January 2015 to September 2020. 94 cases were performed using the right-side approach (research group), and 95 cases with conventional approach (control group). Intraoperative and postoperative conditions of the two groups were observed and compared. Results All operation were completed successfully. The operative time of research group was significantly shorter than that of control group (128.8 ± 35.4 vs 144.1 ± 40.9 min, P = 0.006). There were no significant differences in postoperative hospital stay, VAS score on first postoperative day, incidence of seroma and hematoma, urinary retention and other complications (P > 0.05). None of the patients occured hernia recurrence, mesh infection, intestinal obstruction and other complications. Conclusions The right-side approach to enter Retzius space is safe and feasible in TAPP surgery of bilateral inguinal hernia. Compared with the conventional approach, it can shorten the operative time and has certain advantages.
