The reaction of metal hexafluoroacetylacetonato [MII(hfac)2, M = Cu, Mn] with the stable nitronyl nitroxide 2−(3−isobutyl−pyrazole)−4,4,5,5−tetramethylimidazoline−1−oxyl−3−oxide (L), resulted in one dimensional zig−zag chain systems [{Cu(hfac)2}2L2]n and [CuMn(hfac)4L2]n. The main feature inherent in the nature of [{Cu(hfac)2}2L2]n single crystals is their ability to undergo reversible structural rearrangements with temperature variation, accompanied by anomalies of magnetism. The value of cmT shown strongly antiferromagnetic at low temperature and becomes ferromagnetic when the temperature increases. And the heteronuclear complex [CuMn(hfac)4L2]n shows antiferromagnetic interactions between manganese and nitronyl nitroxide.

CAR and ALP can inhibit ACR in roasted pork by forming ACR adducts. Three adducts were synthesized, and CAR-ACR-1 and ALP-ACR showed antibacterial activity. In roasted pork containing 2% AKH, CAR-ACR-1 reached the MIC of E. coli and S. aureus.

BackgroundUncertainty still remained about the relationship between visceral adiposity index (VAI) and hyperuricemia. The aim of this study was to investigate whether VAI was an independent risk factor for hyperuricemia in hypertensive Chinese patients.MethodsA cross-sectional study including 13176 hypertensive participants (6478 males) recruited from Wuyuan County, Jiangxi province, was conducted. All patients received anthropometric measurements, completed questionnaires and provided blood samples for biochemical testing. VAI was calculated by waist circumference, BMI, triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Hyperuricemia was defined as serum uric acid ≥ 7 mg/dL in men and ≥ 6 mg/dL in women.ResultsOverall, the average level of uric acid was 7.8 ± 2.0 mg/dL in males and 6.34 ± 1.78 in females and prevalence of hyperuricemia was 61.4% and 51.30%, respectively. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, the risk of hyperuricemia increased 1.77 times and 1.88 times with the increase of ln VAI in males (OR:1.77, 95% CI: 1.62, 1.94) and females (OR:1.88, 95% CI: 1.73, 2.04). For males, compared to quartile 1, the risk of hyperuricemia in the second, third and the forth quartile of visceral adiposity index were 1.34 (95% CI: 1.14, 1.57),1.82(95% CI: 1.54, 2.14) and 2.97 (95% CI: 2.48, 3.57). For females, compared to quartile 1, the risk of hyperuricemia in the second, third and the forth quartile of visceral adiposity index were 1.48 (95% CI: 1.28, 1.72), 1.99 (95% CI: 1.71, 2.32) and 2.92 (95% CI: 2.50, 3.42).ConclusionsThis study found that VAI was an independent risk factor for hyperuricemia among hypertensive patients, which may provide some strategies for reducing the level of uric acid.

Landslide stability analysis is the basement of landslide research. To study the influence of water on reservoir landslide stability, taking a landslide for example in a hydroelectric power station based on detailed field investigation and reservoir operation data, the geological conditions, reservoir and rainfall were considered, the slope failure pattern under natural state and rain state were simulated with Mohr-Coulomb criterion after an numerical three-dimensional model established by the fast Lagrange analysis of continua in 3-dunebsion. A simulation was made for the sliding direction under limit equilibrium situation. The change laws of stability were analyzed under self-gravity, rainfall and reservoir water fluctuation. The distribution characteristics of plastic deformation, displacement and potential sliding surface inside slope were intuitively showed under different conditions. From the point of instability mechanism, water is one of the important factors inducing landslide instability. The key block is suddenly broken with shear rupture that triggers landslide. It offers a reliable basis for both prediction of second landslide induced by rainfall and disaster prevention.

Feline coronavirus (FCoV) is the causative agent of feline infectious peritonitis and diarrhoea in kittens worldwide. In this study, a total of 73 feline diarrhoeal faecal samples were collected from veterinary hospitals in ShanDong province from 2017 to 2019. FCoV was detected in 58.23% (46/79) of the samples using the RT-nPCR method. The results showed that the detection rate of FCoV in healthy cats and sick cats were 41.7% (10/24) and 81.6% (40/49), respectively. Full gene amplification and sequencing of N, M and S2 of positive FCoV isolates were performed. There was an amino acid mutation site (M1058L) in the S gene, which could be predicted to be used as a marker for Feline enteric coronavirus (FECV) and Feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV). These results enriched the epidemiological information of FCoV and provided an important reference for the prevention of FCoV in Shandong.

Acrolein (ACR) derives from the external environment and the endogenous metabolism of organisms. It has super-reactivity and can induce various diseases. We investigated the capacity of cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (C3G) and its degradants/metabolites to capture ACR during thermal processing or in vivo. Our results indicated that both C3G and its degradants, including phloroglucinaldehyde (PGA) and protocatechuic acid (PCA), could efficiently trap ACR to form adducts, such as C3G-ACR, C3G-2ACR, PGA-ACR, PGA-2ACR, PCA-ACR, and PCA-2ACR. Additionally, these adducts were detected in commercial canned red bayberry products. The adducts of C3G and its metabolites conjugated with ACR, such as C3G-ACR, C3G-2ACR, PGA-ACR, and 4-hydroxybenzoic-acid-ACR (4-HBA-ACR), were also detected in mice feces treated with C3G by oral gavage, where the adduct level was dose-dependent. A similar pattern was observed in tests on human consumption of red bayberry. In human urine, only PGA-2ACR and 4-HBA-ACR, were found, whereas C3G-ACR, C3G-2ACR, myricetin-3-O-rhamnoside-ACR (M3R-ACR), PGA-2ACR, 4-HBA-ACR and ferulic acid-ACR (FA-ACR) were detected in human feces following administration of red bayberry. Our results are the first demonstration that C3G and its metabolites can capture ACR in vitro and in vivo (mice and humans) and present a novel strategy, the development of C3G as a promising ACR inhibitor.

Acrolein (ACR), the simplest α,β-unsaturated aldehyde, possesses high reactivity and toxicity both in vitro and in vivo and results in various chronic diseases. This has attracted increasing interest from researchers to screen various bioactive compounds to control it. In this article, we attempted to discover a new attribute of cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (C3G), including its ACR-scavenging capacity, reaction pathway, and possible application. Our findings revealed that C3G could capture ACR to form mono- and diadducts at room temperature by using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and we further synthesized and elucidated the structures of C3G-ACR and C3G-2ACR using HRMS and 2D NMR. The structural data validated that there were two active sites of C3G for trapping ACR: at C-6 in the A-ring and C-5' in the B-ring. In addition, we found that C3G-ACR exhibited a more remarkable clearing ability than C3G within a short time. More than 65.9% of ACR was eliminated by C3G-ACR within 5 min via further formation of C3G-2ACR, but there was no obvious effect of C3G on ACR. When the incubation time was extended to 120 min, C3G could remove up to 83.2% of ACR. Subsequently, we also observed that mynica red (>5% C3G), as a pigmented food additive, could efficiently eliminate ACR generated in the Chinese liquor model and real red bayberry wine products to form C3G-ACR and C3G-2ACR. Both adducts increased significantly, by 10 times to a 100 times, after adding mynica red to red bayberry wine products for 24 h; they also increased rapidly with prolonged incubation time in the liquor-mynica red model system. Therefore, our findings suggest that C3G or mynica red may be developed as a promising novel ACR inhibitor in fruit wine and assembled alcoholic drinks or as a health food.

Background and aimsThe relationship between the new obesity index weight-adjusted-waist index (WWI) and hyperuricemia is unclear. We aimed to explore the association of the WWI and hyperuricemia among the hypertensive population.MethodsA total of 14,078 hypertension participants with complete data were included in our study. WWI was calculated by waist circumference divided by the square root of weight. Specifically, men with 420 μmol/L and women with 360 μmol/L were considered to have hyperuricemia.ResultsThe prevalence of hyperuricemia was 61.1% in men and 51.4% in women. On the whole, multivariate logistic regression analyses found that there was a linear positive correlation of WWI with hyperuricemia in both men (OR: 1.37; 95%CI: 1.25, 1.49) and women (OR: 1.35; 95%CI: 1.26, 1.45). Subgroup analysis found that the relationship between WWI and hyperuricemia was stable in stratified subgroups (all P-interactions >.05).ConclusionWWI showed a positive association with hyperuricemia among hypertension patients.

Three-dimensional porous graphene (3D-PG) has attracted much attention due to its excellent electrochemical performance. Chemical reduction is one of common methods for preparing porous graphene. In order to develop a green and facile method for preparing three-dimensional porous graphene, in this paper, 3D-PG was fabricated by reduction of graphene oxide (GO) with ascorbic acid (AA) as reductant in hydrothermal condition based on non-toxic, non-flammable and mild reducing performance of ascorbic acid. It was found that the size and distribution of pores could be controlled by the reduction time and the concentration of AA in the solution. The pore sizes in R0, R1 and R2 were in the range of 0.5-1 μm, 1-1.5 μm, and 1.5-3 μm, respectively. It was found that the average pore size and volume increased along with the amount of reductants. Under optimal conditions - a reaction time of 20 h and a ratio of GO to AA=1 : 1 - the CV area of the so-obtained sample R1-20 at 100 mV was 0.06 and the specific capacitance of the 3D-PG electrode reaches 153.5 F ⋅ g

In this paper, phenol was used as the material to be treated, and HMS molecular sieve was used as the catalyst for the catalytic treatment of the material. HMS, Ti-HMS, Ce-HMS and composite modified Ce/Ti-HMS molecules were used to prepare sieved catalysts. Simulated phenol-containing wastewater with phenol as the main component is treated. The structure of the molecular sieve and its elements and contents were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscope; the morphology of atoms or molecules in the material was characterized by X-ray diffractometer; the chemical bonds in the molecular structure were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The change of vibration peak was analyzed, and the change of surface and skeleton structure was analyzed; the absorbance of the substance to be tested to visible light was measured by ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance method. The experiment was optimized by response surface methodology, and the oxidation of Ce3+ was detected by infrared tracking, and the reaction mechanism of phenol catalytic degradation was analyzed. The active sites that determine the catalytic performance of the composite catalyst were studied by DFT calculations, which further confirmed that the bimetallic modified zeolite has better catalytic effect.

BackgroundEpithelial ovarian tumors (EOTs) are a group of heterogeneous neoplasms. It is importance to preoperatively differentiate the histologic subtypes of EOTs. Our study aims to investigate the potential of radiomics signatures based on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps for categorizing EOTs.MethodsThis retrospectively enrolled 146 EOTs patients [34 with borderline EOT(BEOT), 30 with type I and 82 with type II epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC)]. A total of 390 radiomics features were extracted from DWI and ADC maps. Subsequently, the LASSO algorithm was used to reduce the feature dimensions. A radiomics signature was established using multivariable logistic regression method with 3-fold cross-validation and repeated 50 times. Patients with bilateral lesions were included in the validation cohort and a heuristic selection method was established to select the tumor with maximum probability for final consideration. A nomogram incorporating the radiomics signature and clinical characteristics was also developed. Receiver operator characteristic, decision curve analysis (DCA), and net reclassification index (NRI) were applied to compare the diagnostic performance and clinical net benefit of predictive model.ResultsFor distinguishing BEOT from EOC, the radiomics signature and nomogram showed more favorable discrimination than the clinical model (0.915 vs. 0.852 and 0.954 vs. 0.852, respectively) in the training cohort. In classifying early-stage type I and type II EOC, the radiomics signature exhibited superior diagnostic performance over the clinical model (AUC 0.905 vs. 0.735). The diagnostic efficacy of the nomogram was the same as that of the radiomics model with NRI value of -0.1591 (P = 0.7268). DCA also showed that the radiomics model and combined model had higher net benefits than the clinical model.ConclusionRadiomics analysis based on DWI, and ADC maps serve as an effective quantitative approach to categorize EOTs.

Objective. To evaluate the effect of personalized prechemotherapy education in the reduction of peri-chemotherapy anxiety in patients with colorectal cancer. Methods. Patients admitted to the Department of Oncology with a diagnosis of stage III or IV colorectal cancer and scheduled for initial chemotherapy from January 1, 2017, to June 30, 2019, were retrieved. Patients in the educated group completed the GAD-7 form to evaluate their anxiety level at admission and 14 days after personalized prechemotherapy education, the educator team of which included both physician and nurse staff. Patients in the control group only completed GAD-7 forms at admission and 14 days thereafter without personalized education. Results. Three hundred and sixty-four patients were enrolled for analysis, including 127 patients who received personalized prechemotherapy education and 237 patients who did not receive education. There were no significant differences in age, gender, education level, or pretreatment GAD-7 scores between the two groups, but significantly lower posttreatment GAD-7 score, and fewer medium to severe posttreatment anxiety patients in the educated group. Conclusion. Personalized prechemotherapy education involving physician for medical treatment and nursing staff for peri-treatment care, in contrast to traditional brief discussion with physicians during clinic visits and unified informed consent before treatments, may reduce peri-chemotherapy anxiety more efficiently.

This paper first analyzes that the waste heat before the flue gas of thermal power company enters the desulfurizationwer can be heated by the low pressure economizer, and then the heated condensate can be incorporated into the regenerative system, so as to recover the waste heat and improve the unit efficiency. In this paper, the possible lay-out scheme of the low pressure economizer in the thermal system is constructed firstly, and then the mathematical model of the equivalent enthalpy drop increment of the unit is established with the water partition coefficient as the independent variable. Particle swarm optimization and co-ordinate rotation are used to optimize the model, and the results show that particle swarm optimization is more effective in solving the problem. After the low pressure economizer is added to the unit, the heat consumption of the whole plant of the unit is reduced by 61.131, the unit efficiency is increased by 0.783%, and the coal consumption of the whole plant is reduced by 2.293. Finally, from the perspective of industrial agglomeration, industrial diversification and economic resilience, this paper analyzes the advantages of diversified agglomeration of thermal power companies.

Adsorbent with high efficiency, fast removal rate and good reusability is very important for arsenic remediation. Herein, a novel porous magnetic nanocomposite was prepared for efficient arsenic removal by simple one-pot coprecipitation of Fe3O4 NPs on porous halloysite nanotubes/C (HNTs/C) preformed using abandoned polyurethane foam as a template. HNTs were inserted into the pore of polyurethane foam and formed the skeleton of the nanocomposites after sticking by the carbonized phenolic resin. Fe3O4 NPs were well dispersed on the skeleton and finally formed the porous stable HNTs/C/Fe3O4 nanocomposites. The optimized HNTs/C/Fe3O4 showed ultrafast removal rate (>98% arsenic was removed within 10 min), high removal efficiency and good regeneration capacity. It is worth noting that the adsorption efficiency of As (V) by HNTs/C/Fe3O4 was still above 99% after 5 times reuse, indicating the sustainable application. In addition, the application of HNTs/C/Fe3O4 for arsenic adsorption is almost not limited by pH. The chemical adsorption process was confirmed by adsorption kinetics, XPS and isothermal adsorption. The qm of As(III) and As(V) is 34.54 mg/g and 1491.72 mg/g, respectively, which is the highest capacity of As (V) known at present. This study demonstrates an ultrafast, high-efficient and sustainable adsorbent for arsenic treatment in contaminated water, which might also give light on other heavy metals remediation.

Background In this study we compared intraoperative bleeding and regional cerebral oxygenation in patients with different degrees of the reverse Trendelenburg position (RTP) during endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS). Methods In total, 120 patients with chronic rhinosinusitis treated by ESS were randomly assigned to the following 4 groups: a horizontal position (HP) group, and 5°, 10°, and 15° RTP (5-RTP, 10-RTP, and 15-RTP, respectively) groups. The primary outcome was the Boezaart grading scale (BS). The cerebral oxygen saturation (ScO2 ), total blood loss, numerical rating scale (NRS) scores, and complications were also recorded. Results The median BS values in the HP, 5-RTP, 10-RTP, and 15-RTP groups were 2.0, 2.0, 2.1, and 1.7, respectively. Multiple pairwise comparisons of the BS showed significant differences between the 15-RTP group and the other 3 groups (HP, 5-RTP, and 10-RTP). Regarding the NRS and bleeding rate, significant differences were found between the HP and 15-RTP groups. No difference was found in ScO2 among the 4 groups, and no cerebral desaturation events occurred in any group. No complications, including vital organ (heart, brain, and kidney) dysfunction problems, were reported in this study during hospitalization. Conclusion Compared with HP, 5-RTP, and 10-RTP, 15-RTP can improve visual clarity during ESS, and ScO2 is not affected by the degree of RTP. No cerebral deoxygenation or vital organ dysfunction was observed in this study. Therefore, we recommend 15-RTP with moderate deliberate hypotension for ESS.

It is an intriguing issue of evolutionary biology how genetic diversity and gene expression diversity shape the adaptive patterns. Comparative transcriptomic studies of wild populations in extreme environments provide critical insights into the relative contribution of genetic and expressive components. In this study, we analyzed the genetic diversity and gene expression diversity of 20 populations of the aquatic plant Batrachium bungei along elevations ranging from 2690 to 4896 m on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau (QTP). Based on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and gene expression data from 100 individuals of B. bungei, we found that variation in genetic sequence was more sensitive to detect weak differentiation than gene expression. Using 292,613 high-quality SNPs, we documented a significant phylogeographical structure, a low within-population genetic diversity, and a high inter-population genetic differentiation in B. bungei populations. Analysis of relationship between geographic distance, genetic distance, and gene expression similarity showed that geographic isolation shaped gene flow patterns but not gene expression patterns. We observed a negative relationship between genetic diversity and gene expression diversity within and among B. bungei populations, and we demonstrated that as environmental conditions worsen with increasing altitude, genetic diversity played an increased role in maintaining the stability of populations, while the corresponding role of gene expression diversity decreased. These results suggested that genetic diversity and gene expression diversity might act as a complementary mechanism contributing to the long-term survival of B. bungei in extreme environments.

With the Skopos Theory as the theoretical foundation, this study aims at analyzing the specialized translation of electrical engineering texts from the professionals' perspective. To do this, we first conducted a questionnaire survey to collect the information on the professionals' needs and requirements on the translation of English texts in the realm of electrical engineering. Then, we selected an English academic paper published in a prestigious journal in this field and conducted a semi-structured interview on the Chinese translation of this paper with three professionals in this field. Based on the results of both questionnaire and interview, we analyzed the translation of electrical engineering texts from English to Chinese at lexical, syntactic and textual levels with the guidance of Skopos Theory. It is found from the questionnaire survey that electrical engineering professionals in China do have a need for translation of English texts in this field, and they emphasize the accuracy of terms and information integrity of the target text. From the interview, we also find that Skopos Theory has a strong guiding effect on the specialized translation of electrical engineering texts. Under the guidance of this theory, translators can adopt various translation strategies to enhance their translation output and optimize its communicative effect.

Background Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) features relatively low overall survival (OS). Intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) diffusion-weighted MRI separates tissue microcapillary perfusion and diffusivity and may have potential for helping to assess prognosis in infiltrated marrow disease apart from solid tumor. Thus, a study of overall survival would contribute to clarifying the value of IVIM for assessing long-term prognosis in AML. Purpose To determine whether the IVIM-derived parameters of infiltrated bone marrow may be associated with OS in newly diagnosed AML. Materials and Methods This prospective study enrolled participants with newly diagnosed AML between July 2014 to March 2016 consecutively. Participants underwent MRI of the lumbar spine by using an IVIM sequence. Participant clinical characteristics and OS were collected. The median of follow-up period was 20 months (range, 1-56 months). The IVIM parameters (pseudoperfusion fraction, f; diffusion coefficient, D; and pseudodiffusion coefficient, D*) were obtained. A nonparametric log-rank test was used to identify the threshold of IVIM parameters for OS. Univariable Kaplan-Meier and multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were performed to investigate prognostic significance of possible indicators. Results Fifty-three participants (mean age, 42 years ± 17; 30 men) were evaluated. Nonparametric log-rank test results showed that the thresholds of f and D values for OS were 31.0% and 0.2 × 10-3 mm2/sec, respectively. Univariable analyses indicated that high f value (>31.0%) and low D value (≤0.2 × 10-3 mm2/sec) were associated with shorter OS (P = .003 and .01, respectively). An f value greater than 31.0% (hazard ratio, 2.4; 95% confidence interval: 1.0, 5.6; P = .046) was associated with OS, independent of clinical confounders (age, karyotype, and white blood cell counts) in a multivariable analysis. Conclusion Pseudoperfusion fraction and diffusion coefficient from intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted MRI may be viable prognosis predictors of newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia. © RSNA, 2020.

In a previous study, we developed a dihydropteroate synthase (DHPS)-based biosensor for multi-sulfonamides (SAs), which could detect 29 SAs with IC50 values below 100 ng mL−1. The purpose of the present study was to apply the DHPS-based biosensor to different food matrices and evaluate the influence of matrix effects on the performance of the biosensor by using sulfamethazine (SMZ) as a reference analyte. The results show that different sample pretreatment procedures were required for each food sample to ensure the accuracy and precision of the biosensor. The limit of detection (LOD) for SMZ in chicken, pork, egg and honey was 17.82, 20.55, 23.22, and 5.57 μg kg−1, respectively. The recovery values ranged from 47.6% to 135.1%, and the coefficients of variation (CV) were less than 25.6%. Taken together, our findings show that the DHPS-DHPPP biosensor is a suitable screening method for the screening of multi-SAs in different food matrices.

Order financing, as an innovative business in the financial supply chain model of banks and other financial institutions, has served more and more small and medium-sized enterprises in recent years, and has also brought new profit points to the financial and logistics industries. Businesses urgently need to carry out relevant risk evaluation research on the risks brought by banks and other financial institutions. Based on this background, this article has carried out relevant research on the construction and evaluation method of the risk evaluation index system of order financing business. Through project research and literature review, the research on the risk evaluation theory and method of order financing carried out by banks and other financial institutions is not perfect. The role-played in order financing and the key risk variables faced by financial institutions, and innovatively proposed an evaluation method based on the logistics model. Based on the analysis of order financing risk factors, and through literature review and expert interviews, an evaluation index system initially constructed from five aspects: financing companies, downstream core companies, logistics companies, supply chain operations and external environment. Through questionnaire surveys and statistical analysis of the survey results, a complete, qualitied the risk evaluation index system for order financing business was finally determined. Taking the order-financing project jointly carried out by commercial banks and logistics companies as an example.

In this study, 2D magnetic composites based on Fe3O4 and scallion sheathings biochar were designed and prepared via simple hydrothermal method for removal of As(III) in aqueous solutions. The effects of acid/base pretreatment of biochar on the physicochemical properties and As(III) adsorption performance of the composites were investigated. The mechanism was discussed by XPS study and sorption isotherm models. The results revealed that oxygen content on the surface of the acid/base pretreated biochar decreased, which directly reduced the Fe3O4 content loaded on the biochar. The removal efficiency of As(III) by the composites based on original biochar, HCl-pretreated biochar and NaOH-pretreated biochar could reach 93.19%, 92.84% and 79.61%, respectively. XPS, adsorption kinetics, and isothermal adsorption model studies have shown that As(III) adsorption by these three composites is a chemical process with the maximum adsorption capacity of 39.47, 31.37 and 28.54 mg/g, respectively. In addition, the magnetic biochar composites still showed good reusability after 5 times of reuse. This study shows that the magnetic biochar composites possessed excellent performance to remove As(III) from solutions, especially the composites based on original biochar, indicating it is a promising adsorbent for arsenic removal from contaminated water.

BackgroundBlood parameters, such as neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, have been identified as reliable inflammatory markers with diagnostic and predictive value for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, novel hematological parameters derived from high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) have rarely been studied as indicators for the risk of poor outcomes in patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Here, we aimed to assess the prognostic value of these novel biomarkers in COVID-19 patients and the diabetes subgroup.MethodsWe conducted a multicenter retrospective cohort study involving all hospitalized patients with COVID-19 from January to March 2020 in five hospitals in Wuhan, China. Demographics, clinical and laboratory findings, and outcomes were recorded. Neutrophil to HDL-C ratio (NHR), monocyte to HDL-C ratio (MHR), lymphocyte to HDL-C ratio (LHR), and platelet to HDL-C ratio (PHR) were investigated and compared in both the overall population and the subgroup with diabetes. The associations between blood parameters at admission with primary composite end-point events (including mechanical ventilation, admission to the intensive care unit, or death) were analyzed using Cox proportional hazards regression models. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to compare the utility of different blood parameters.ResultsOf 440 patients with COVID-19, 67 (15.2%) were critically ill. On admission, HDL-C concentration was decreased while NHR was high in patients with critical compared with non-critical COVID-19, and were independently associated with poor outcome as continuous variables in the overall population (HR: 0.213, 95% CI 0.090–0.507; HR: 1.066, 95% CI 1.030–1.103, respectively) after adjusting for confounding factors. Additionally, when HDL-C and NHR were examined as categorical variables, the HRs and 95% CIs for tertile 3 vs. tertile 1 were 0.280 (0.128–0.612) and 4.458 (1.817–10.938), respectively. Similar results were observed in the diabetes subgroup. ROC curves showed that the NHR had good performance in predicting worse outcomes. The cutoff point of the NHR was 5.50. However, the data in our present study could not confirm the possible predictive effect of LHR, MHR, and PHR on COVID-19 severity.ConclusionLower HDL-C concentrations and higher NHR at admission were observed in patients with critical COVID-19 than in those with noncritical COVID-19, and were significantly associated with a poor prognosis in COVID-19 patients as well as in the diabetes subgroup.
