Refractory nephrotic syndrome (RNS) is an immune-related kidney disease with poor clinical outcomes. Standard treatments include corticosteroids as the initial therapy and other immunosuppressants as second-line options. A substantial proportion of patients with RNS are resistant to or dependent on immunosuppressive drugs and often experience unremitting edema and proteinuria, cycles of remission and relapse, and/or serious adverse events due to long-term immunosuppression. Traditional Chinese medicine has a long history of treating complicated kidney diseases and holds great potential for providing effective treatments for RNS. This review describes the Chinese medical theories relating to the pathogenesis of RNS and discusses the strategies and treatment options using Chinese herbal medicine. Available preclinical and clinical evidence strongly supports the integration of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine for improving the outcome of RNS. Herbal medicine such as Astragalus membranaceus, Stephania tetrandra S. Moore, and Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F can serve as the alternative therapy when patients fail to respond to immunosuppression or as the complementary therapy to improve therapeutic efficacy and reduce side effects of immunosuppressive agents. Wuzhi capsules (Schisandra sphenanthera extract) with tacrolimus and tetrandrine with corticosteroids are two herb-drug combinations that have shown great promise and warrant further studies.

Although traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western medicine have evolved on distinct philosophical foundations and reasoning methods, an increasing body of scientific data has begun to reveal commonalities. Emerging scientific evidence has confirmed the validity and identified the molecular mechanisms of many ancient TCM theories. One example is the concept of “Kidneys Govern Bones.” Here we discuss the molecular mechanisms supporting this theory and its potential significance in treating complications of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and diabetes mellitus. Two signaling pathways essential for calcium-phosphate metabolism can mediate the effect of kidneys in bone homeostasis, one requiring renal production of bioactive vitamin D and the other involving an endocrine axis based on kidney-expressed Klotho and bone-secreted fibroblast growth factor 23. Disruption of either pathway can lead to calcium-phosphate imbalance and vascular calcification, accelerating metabolic bone disorder. Chinese herbal medicine is an adjunct therapy widely used for treating CKD and diabetes. Our results demonstrate the therapeutic effects and underlying mechanisms of a Chinese herbal formulation, Shen-An extracts, in diabetic nephropathy and renal osteodystrophy. We believe that the smart combination of Eastern and Western concepts holds great promise for inspiring new ideas and therapies for preventing and treating complications of CKD and diabetes.

The chemical polishing process and the subsequent passivation process of CdZnTe wafers were studied. The treatment effects were tested through XPS analysis and I–V measurement. The chemical etching in 2%Br–MeOH solution may effectively remove the damaged layer and improve the ohmic contact between CdZnTe wafer and Au electrodes. CdZnTe wafers after Br–MeOH etching were passivated with five different passivants respectively. It was found that the surface leakage currents of all CdZnTe wafers passivated with different passivants were reduced by 1–2 orders. CdZnTe wafer passivated in NH4F/H2O2 solution showed the best passivation efficiency because the enriched Te on the surface was fully oxidized to TeO2, which results in the thickest oxide layer, the most stoichiometric surface and the least leakage current. The surface of CdZnTe wafer is Te-rich after passivated in NH4F/H2O2 or H2O2 solution and Cd-rich after passivated in KOH or KOH/H2O2 solution.

For multiphoton Jaynes-Cummings(JC) model Hamiltonian, we find its supersymmetric structure. Based on this, we introduce a supersymmetric unitary transformation to diagonalize the JC Hamiltonian, in so doing, its eigenvalues and eigenfunctions are obtained. The transition process is also calculated.

In this paper, firstly, we investigate the neutrino emissivity from quark Urca process in strong magnetic field. Then, we discuss the heat capacity of strange stars in strong magnetic field. Finally, we give the cooling curve in strong magnetic field. In order to make a comparison, we also give the corresponding cooling curve in the case of null magnetic field. It turns out that strange stars cool faster in strong magnetic field than that without magnetic field.

Quantum information technology is mainly based on quantum entanglement. As an important coherent superposition state, the coherence of quantum entanglement source is easily affected by environment and becomes fragile, which will lead to the failure of the quantum information processing. Thus, it is critical to reveal the evolutions of quantum entanglement source under different noisy environments and different noisy channels. Firstly, we experimentally prepare a high-fidelity two-bit entangled state by several technical methods. The fidelity observed for the state prepared in our experiment is 0.993 and the signal-to-noise ratio can reach up to 299. Then, we simulate the bit-flip noise and phase-shift noise (collective and non-collective) using the all-optical experimental setup. Finally, based on the entanglement qubit state, we experimentally study the evolutions of entanglement characteristic under different noisy environments and the single, double and mixed noisy channels. The experimental results show that for the same type of noise, the entanglement properties disappear fast when entangled qubit passes through dual channel noisy environment. The upper bounds of noise intensity to destroy the entanglement property are 0.25 and 0.26 for the single bit-flip noise and phase-shift noisy channels, respectively. The comparison between the two different kinds of noisy environments shows that the entanglement properties disappear fast when entangled bit passes through non-collective environment. The upper bounds of noise intensity are 0.08 and 0.14 for non-collective bit-flip and phase-shift noise to destroy the entanglement property, while the noise intensities are 0.14 and 0.23 for collective bit-flip and phase-shift noise, respectively. For different kinds of noises, the results show that bit-flip noise is more likely to destroy the entanglement properties than the phase-shift. Our results have great significance for the theoretical and experimental studies of entanglement decoherence and have important application value for quantum information processing technology based on the nonlinear optical system.

We have developed and successfully demonstrated the "point projection absorption spectroscopy (hereafter abbreviated to PPAS)" technique to record keV x-ray absorption spectra in the coronal region of laser produced aluminum plasma which provides spatial information in the corona. Absorption spectrum of the Al XII 1s2-1s2p resonant line for time delays up to 250, 500 and 750 ps after the peak of the incident laser pulse have been observed. Analysis of an absorption spectrum should allow a high spatial resolution (< 25 μm) history of the absorbing ion population density to be determined. The 1-D hydro-code JB19 has been used to simulate the experiment and the predictions are compared to the observations. Such comparison can be useful in validating parts of the codes used for gain prediction on recombination x-ray laser transitions.

On the basis of analysing the error of robot that results from walking in plane, a new PID controller with BP neural networks is proposed in the paper. The BP Neural Network algorithm is used in PID control because it could adjust parameters itself in real time. By using the BP Neural Network PID controller, the robot can go straight accurately. Simulation results demonstrate that the new PID controller with BP Neural Networks can not only overcome uncertainties and external disturbances, but also get rather good requirement of tracking precision, thus possess better robustness and control performance.

In this paper, we theoretically study the relation between concurrence and nonlocality depicted by Bell-type inequality violation of quantum mechanics prediction versus local realism prediction for the GHZ (Greenberger -Horne-Zeilinger) class states. Analytical expressions of concurrence, violations of the Mermin inequality and the Svetlichny inequality are obtained. Through numerical calculations, the relationship between entanglement and nonlocality of GHZ-class states is discussed. Our results show that the concurrence is consistent with the degree of nonlocality described by violations of the two Bell-type inequalities of GHZ-class states. The Bell operator and its parameters can obviously reveal the nonlocal features of quantum states.

We investigate experimentally the violation of the Bell, Mermin and Svetlichny inequalities to local realism prediction. Using the maximum-likelihood technique to construct the density matrix and calculate the fidelity of the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state. The values of the three inequalities are measured. The experimental resuls show that the three inequalities have different violation degrees to local realism prediction. So we can choose a suitable method of nonlocality to estimate the security of quantum channel.

With the help of Svetlichny's inequality, we obtain an analytical expression of the quantum nonlocality for generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger(GHZ) state composed of a (GHZ) state and a W state. The numerical results between tripartite entanglement and nonlocality for generalized GHZ state are discussed.

For the generalized Jaynes-Cummings model Hamiltonian which can describe two collectively radiation atoms, we find its supersymmetric structure. Based on supersymmetric quantum mechanics theory, we introduce a supersymmetric unitary transformation, in which the supersymmetric unitary transformation operator can be constructed by supersymmetric generators of the super-Lie algebra, to diagonalize the Hamiltonian. On doing so, its eigenvalue and eigenstates are obtained.

Based on the matrix of the time-dependent quantum transformation theory，we derive the analytic expression of the evolution operator for the time-dependent oscillators by using the time-dependent quantum transformation theory. Then the exact solution of the time-dependent oscillators is obtained.

A novel group of experiments has shown that single 10-micrometer-radius-scale laser spot is not able to produce the 90° side emitted three half harmonic efficiently in a preformed laser plasmas. However, with the help of one or two accessary laser spots with size similar to the main one, the side emitted three halfs can easily be built up when some position and angle conditions for the accessary spots are fulfilled. The origin of these phenomena have been analyzed in terms of the two plasmon decay theory and dynamic self-focusing model.

We present in this paper the temporally and spatially resolved feature of the side scattered 3ω0/2 harmonic emission, induced by A single laser spot with ten-micron-radius-scale in a preformed laser plasma. The close relation of the harmonic emission with such a small scale laser self-focusing filamentation has been discussed in detail. It is suggested that the side scattered harmonic signal from a underdense region as low as 0.05nc may be caused by the Lang-muir wave and/or ion-acoustic wave scattering induced by laser dynamic filamentation.

The measurment on the 3/2ω0. harmonic emission from laser plasma has been carried out. The experimental results show that harmonic spectra has a blue-shift of about 70? and is broadened by about 26? when power density on the target surface is about 1014W/cm2. There is a slight broadening of spectra following the increase of power density on the target surface.

The 1.06 μm laser with irradiance 3.5×1013W/cm2 was injected into Mg microtube target with lateral jet nozzle. The temporal evolution of X-ray spectra emitted from Mg10+ and Mg11+ ion along the side-blow direction was recorded by using X-ray streak camera. The results demonstrate that three-body recombination is the main mechanism to realize the strong population inversion between the excited state energy levels Is4p and Is3p of Mg10+ ion. The electron density in lateral jet nozzle measured by a 2660? UV laser probe coincides with density results deduced from the spectrum information.

We present here studies of laser imploded glass microballoons by the newly developed time-resolved four-frame X-ray shadowgraphy. The simulation results of our one-dimensional Lagrangian hydrodynamical computation code (WL code) are in good agreement with the diagnostic experiments. The joint effort of the diagnostic experiments and theoretical simulations is crucial to understand laser implosion dynamics.
