The present work investigates experimentally and numerically the combustion of methane coupled to biodiesel and diesel in dual fuel mode. The engine used is a single-cylinder Lister-Petter_01005299_TS1 modified for bi-fuel operation with a pre-chamber in the intake to allow methane to enter with the air. For this, we use three distinct fuels, conventional D100 diesel, B100 biodiesel and methane. The first two fuels are first burned independently under the same conditions independently under the same conditions using the double Wiebe phase. The numerical results obtained of this first combustion of B100 and D100 compared to the measured results show an agreement of 2% and 1.07% respectively for biodiesel and diesel allowing the validation of the numerical code. Next, we add methane to the air during the intake phase for the previously tested D100 and B100 fuels used as a pilot fuel in order to observe the impact of methane on cylinder pressure, nitrogen oxide emissions and heat release. The combustion model used is a two-zone 0D, one representing the burnt gases and the other the unburnt gases. The results showed a decrease in cylinder pressure and a large reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions of about 26.67% and about 48.76% when burning B100 biodiesel at medium load. The results also showed that the addition of methane to the air reduces the overall heat release of both fuels around TDC by 10.76% and 5.4% for biodiesel and diesel, respectively. But that in the diffusion phase, dual fuel combustion shows a higher heat release for diesel. It was also observed that peak pressures were reduced by 2.35% in the case of diesel compared to 7.45% for biodiesel.

- Abstract
This study aimed to assess the genetic diversity and population structure of 12 guinea fowl phenotypes from three climatic zones (Guinean, Sudano-Guinean and Sudanian) of Benin. A total of 96 adult guinea fowl, aged at least 6 months, were selected for blood sampling. Fragment analysis was carried out using 17 polymorphic microsatellite markers. The informative marker combinations revealed a total of 83 alleles across all loci, with an average of 5 alleles per locus and a mean polymorphic information content (PIC) of 0.793. This study showed an observed heterozygosity of 0.492. The inbreeding coefficient values ranged from −0.086 in white phenotype to 0.226 in cinnamon, showing a deficit of heterozygotes, suggesting a moderate inbreeding level. A relatively low population differentiation was observed, with a mean fixation index (Fst) value of 0.033. The short genetic distances between phenotypes, unlike the strong genetic identities, revealed high genetic proximity between the 12 phenotypes of indigenous guinea fowl in Benin. These data indicate the existence of a single indigenous guinea fowl population with high intra-population genetic diversity with respect to climatic zones or phenotypes. This study will help in the selection of parental breeding stock for genetic improvement programs, as well as in the conservation for biodiversity maintenance and sustainable use of the indigenous guinea fowl in the study zones in Benin.

In this paper, the general objective is to model and simulate the hourly irradiance followed by an assessment of the solar potential in the city of Abeche located in the climatic region of the Republic of Chad. Unlike previous work carried out in the study area on solar irradiance, two hourly solar irradiance estimation models (Capderou and Liu&Jordan) were simulated at varying tilt angles. An analysis of the quality of their estimation is carried out through statistical methods (MBD, RMSD, MAD) of error calculation. The results show that the first model is well adapted on a horizontal surface to estimate the solar radiation and also during the dry season when the surface is inclined. On the other hand, the second model is preferred during the rainy season when the surface is inclined. The solar energy over the entire area of Abeche is estimated at 427 GWh on a horizontal surface in January and 504 GWh for the month of August on a tilted surface. This can be exploited by all solar technologies or applications.

Characterization of local goat breeds is an important step for the development of its breeding. This characterization cannot be done without knowing the size and the spatial distribution of the existing breeds. Thus, this work was carried out to study the spatial distribution of goat breeds bred in Benin. To achieve this, 498 breeders spread across the three climate zone of Benin were subjected to semi-structured individual interviews. The data collected were the socio-demographic characteristics of breeders, the number of breeds bred and the size of the herd per breed. Descriptive statistics, and the generalized linear model of Poisson family were used for data analysis. Results showed that breeders were mainly male (54.02%), married (88.15%) with a high rate of non-education (65.26%). The number of breeds bred by breeders in Guinean zone was 3 (West African Dwarf (WAD), Sahelian and Maradi goat) but 4 Soudanian and Soudano-Guinean zone (WAD, Sahelian, Maradi goat and Saanen). Despite the diversity of this breeds in the climate zone, only WAD breed was bred by more than 80% of breeders with a livestock size of 6133.

- Abstract
Background: Rabies is a zoonotic and a typical One Health challenge. Intersectoral surveillance is a critical component of rabies control programmes. However, the under-reporting of animal bite cases and the lack of coordination between sectors involved in the surveillance may lead to failure in the control efforts of this public health concern. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the operational level. Two separate survey grids were used for simultaneous data collection in the study sites, including 385 dog bite victims within communities and 273 human health and animal health professionals responsible for rabies surveillance in health and veterinary facilities Results: There was no association (OR: 0,76; CI: 0,452-1,39 and p=0.38) between data loss and professional profile of the surveillance focal points; however, there was a significant association between the under-reporting of physical aggression cases of dog bites by victims and the level of education (OR: 1.75; IC:1.02-2.99 and P=0.0413), and with individuals younger than 20 years and those over 50 years of age (OR:0.39; CI:0.16-0.96 and p=0.0415). Indeed, there was a positively and statistically significant association (OR: 3.11; CI: 1.94-5.00 and pConclusion: The under-reporting of rabies bites in the West region of Cameroon is as a consequence of negligence and lack of application of the one health approach on rabies surveillance by the surveillance focal points in District health sectors, leading to the no-exhaustive collection and patchy dissemination of dog bite data.

Chad, in regards to its geographical position is considered as one of the countries in the world that receives an important annual solar radiation over its entire territory. The average sunshine duration is about 10 hours in the North, 8 hours in the Center and 7 hours in the South. This can be used to quantify the solar radiation over the whole territory and evaluate the solar potential. In this paper, some new correlations between sunshine duration and solar radiation have proposed in four cities (Abeche, Bitkine, Mongo and Ndjamena) located in the Sahelian climate in order to have tools for quantifying all components of solar radiation. The polynomial regression model approach is used and their parameters are estimated by the ordinary least squares method. A statistical evaluation was carried out to compare the different correlations obtained. The results show that the third order polynomial approach is the most appropriate for an empirical relationship between global, diffuse and relative sunshine duration in each of the cities. Considering the long dry seasons characterized by high temperatures in this region, the consideration of the temperature variable in the functional form could improve the quality and accuracy of the models in their estimation.

Malaria is a parasitic infection ranked among the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in Sub-Sahara African countries. If recommended interventions measures are well applied, malaria can be prevented and controlled. In many cases, the budget allocated to malaria prevention and treatment project is not enough, using malaria intervention measures properly will guarantee the reduction of infected population while the intervention costs is minimized. This saves the budget and produces the results in economical way. The aim of this article is to understand the cost so that decision makers are well informed when they determine budget allocated to malaria interventions. After ordering different possible strategies from the smallest to the highest, utilizing Incremental Cost-Effectiveness Ratio (ICER), we studied the Cost-effectiveness of each strategy. This study analyses the cost-effectiveness of all possible optimal control measures to identify which is the intervention strategy is going to save available resources and cost-effective. After analysis, this study shows that malaria can be minimized in Bubanza using preventive measures at the most cost effective way.

Health Policy - Abstract
Health shocks are common and have serious consequences for households in developing countries where health insurance is lacking. In this study, we examine whether out-of-pocket health expenditures crowd out household consumption of non-healthcare necessities, such as education items in Benin using a sample of 14,952 households from the global vulnerability and food security analysis survey. We estimated a system of conditional Engel curves with three stage least squared (3SLS) and seemingly unrelated regression (SURE) for seven categories of goods using the Quadratic Almost Ideal Demand System (QUAIDS) in the form of budget shares corresponding to proportions of total non-health expenditure. Findings show that out of pocket health expenditure leads households to spend more on health care that in fine crowd out expenditure in other necessity goods such as education item. These findings highlight the need for social protection programs to mitigate the impact of health shocks on vulnerable households in Benin.

20. Le camfranglais et les discours métalinguistiques glottophobes
- Author

- Abstract

Typology ,Goat ,Production system ,Benin - Abstract
In Benin, goat farming is a key livelihood for farm households and is mainly practiced by smallholders. This study was conducted to characterize the production system of goat farms. A total of 496 farmers from the three climatic zones of the country were interviewed using a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, Kendall's concordance test, factorial analysis of mixed data, and hierarchical cluster analysis on principal components were used for data analysis. Results show that income from the sale of livestock products is the primary objective of the farmers. The herd is dominated by adult females and future breeding does and bucks are selected based on their body conformation and the performance of their parents. The multivariate analyses revealed three distinct clusters. The two first is oriented towards meat production while the last one is oriented milk production. Such results can be used as a basis for programs to improve the productivity of goats and the living conditions of farmers.

- Abstract
This study aimed to assess the impact of the cage fish farming on the water quality in two selected bays of the Bukavu basin, Lake Kivu; from February to December 2021. Physicochemical parameters including pH, Temperature, EC, TDS, Salinity, DO, Transparency were sampled in situ using a COMBO HI 98129 multi-parameter probe, PCE-PHD1 probe and a Black & White Secchi disk; water at different depths was collected with the aid of a Van-Dorn Sampler; nutrients namely PO43−, NH4+, NO2−, SiO2, and Chl_a were analysed using the UV-VIS spectrophotometer. The results revealed that water pH, temperature, TDS, salinity and transparency significantly (p ≤ 0.05) varied between the selected sites. Water at the cage sites contained significantly (p ≤ 0.05) much higher concentrations of PO3 − 4, NH4+, NO2−, SiO2 and Chl_a than in control site. In overall, these results suggest that cage fish farming changed water quality in the selected bays. Therefore, the study recommends that measures should be taken to regulate cage fish farming and related activities and deforestation around Bukavu basin to avoid advert conditions.

- Abstract

An effective teaching contributes to the students’ performance and this depends on qualified-trained teachers, school administration, parents and conducive environment for teaching and learning. It is proven that students are more successful in their academic achievements, in the societies where teachers perceive their profession as their job. This paper explores the impact of the society’s perception on teachers’ professionalism. The method employed in this paper is qualitative by using interview technique and used audio-recorded to ensure a complete transcript. The result indicated that in some developing countries including Cameroon, Kenya and Fiji has various reasons for their job. Teaching profession was affected by how the society considers teachers whereby they are perceived as disadvantaged population who cannot fully take part in the social and economic activities due to the fact that their salary is very low compared other public servants. This low salary and loss of respect of teachers by the society lead to the job dissatisfaction and made the teaching profession as a transitional job before waiting to move to another different professional field.

Background The African Surgical OutcomeS-2 (ASOS-2) trial tested an enhanced postoperative surveillance intervention to reduce postoperative mortality in Africa. We undertook a concurrent evaluation to understand the process of intervention delivery. Methods Mixed-methods process evaluation, including field notes, interviews, and post-trial questionnaire responses. Qualitative analysis used the framework method with subsequent creation of comparative case studies, grouping hospitals by intervention fidelity. A post-trial questionnaire was developed using initial qualitative analyses. Categorical variables were summarised as count (%) and continuous variables as median (inter-quartile range [IQR]). Odds ratios (OR) were used to rank influences by impact on fidelity. Results The dataset included eight in-depth case studies, and 96 questionnaire responses (response rate 67%) plus intervention fidelity data for each trial site. Overall, 57% (n=55/96) of hospitals achieved intervention delivery using an inclusive definition of fidelity. Delivery of the ASOS-2 interventions and data collection presented a significant burden to the investigators, outstripping limited resources. The influences most associated with fidelity were: surgical staff enthusiasm for the trial (OR=3.0; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.3–7.0); nursing management support of the trial (OR=2.6; 95% CI, 1.1–6.5); performance of a dummy run (OR=2.6; 95% CI, 1.1–6.1); nursing colleagues seeing the value of the intervention(s) (OR=2.1; 95% CI, 0.9–5.7); and site investigators' belief in the effectiveness of the intervention (OR=3.2; 95% CI, 1.2–9.4). Conclusions ASOS-2 has proved that coordinated interventional research across Africa is possible, but delivering the ASOS-2 interventions was a major challenge for many investigators. Future improvement science efforts must include better planning for intervention delivery, additional support to investigators, and promotion of strong inter-professional teamwork. Clinical trial registration ClinicalTrials gov NCT03853824.

COVID-19 has thrown higher education teachers into a period of insecurity, overlaid with long hours of online teaching. The importance of body presence in teaching thus became more obvious than ever. In the midst of all this, a peer group of higher education teachers (= 8) came together with the intention of co-constructing a somato-reflexive mentoring process (Emond and Rondeau, 2019). They studied their own embodiment consciousness process – the relationship with their own body, others’ bodies and their environment (Johnson, 2007) – while trying to regain their empowerment as teachers. Data from group somatic workshops and a personal phenomenological process compiled in a written journal were analysed following van Manen’s method (2014). Preliminary results highlight various regulation paths taken by individuals to maintain well-being and health during this period. Bodies are eager to re-occupy physical space, individually and together, in order to feel their aliveness while teaching.

- Abstract

Macrophages play a key role in the inflammatory phase of wound repair and foreign body reactions—two important processes in the Masquelet-induced membrane technique for extremity reconstruction. The macrophage response depends largely on the nature of the biomaterials implanted. However, little is known about the influence of the macrophage microenvironment on the osteogenic properties of the induced membrane or subsequent bone regeneration. We used metakaolin, an immunogenic material, as an alternative spacer to standard polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) in a Masquelet model in rats. Four weeks after implantation, the PMMA- and metakaolin-induced membranes were harvested, and their osteogenic properties and macrophage microenvironments were investigated by histology, immunohistochemistry, mass spectroscopy and gene expression analysis. The metakaolin spacer induced membranes with higher levels of two potent pro-osteogenic factors, transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) and bone morphogenic protein-2 (BMP-2). These alternative membranes thus had greater osteogenic activity, which was accompanied by a significant expansion of the total macrophage population, including both the M1-like and M2-like subtypes. Microcomputed tomographic analysis showed that metakaolin-induced membranes supported bone regeneration more effectively than PMMA-induced membranes through better callus properties (+58%), although this difference was not significant. This study provides the first evidence of the influence of the immune microenvironment on the osteogenic properties of the induced membranes.

open access article Today, Linux users use sudo/su commands to attribute Linux’s administrative privileges to their programs. These commands always give the whole list of administrative privileges to Linux programs, unless there are pre-installed default policies defined by Linux Security Modules(LSM). LSM modules require users to inject the needed privileges into the memory of the process and to declare the needed privileges in an LSM policy. This approach can work for users who have good knowledge of the syntax of LSM modules’ policies. Adding or editing an existing policy is a very time-consuming process because LSM modules require adding a complete list of traditional permissions as well as administrative privileges. We propose a new Linux module called RootAsRole that is dedicated to the management of administrative privileges. RootAsRole is not proposed to replace LSM modules but to be used as a complementary module to manage Linux administrative privileges. RootAsRole allows Linux administrators to define a set of roles that contain the administrative privileges and restrict their usage to a set of users/groups and programs. Finally, we conduct an empirical performance study to compare RootAsRole tools with sudo/su commands to show that the overhead added by our module remains acceptable.

Summary Background Risk of mortality following surgery in patients across Africa is twice as high as the global average. Most of these deaths occur on hospital wards after the surgery itself. We aimed to assess whether enhanced postoperative surveillance of adult surgical patients at high risk of postoperative morbidity or mortality in Africa could reduce 30-day in-hospital mortality. Methods We did a two-arm, open-label, cluster-randomised trial of hospitals (clusters) across Africa. Hospitals were eligible if they provided surgery with an overnight postoperative admission. Hospitals were randomly assigned through minimisation in recruitment blocks (1:1) to provide patients with either a package of enhanced postoperative surveillance interventions (admitting the patient to higher care ward, increasing the frequency of postoperative nursing observations, assigning the patient to a bed in view of the nursing station, allowing family members to stay in the ward, and placing a postoperative surveillance guide at the bedside) for those at high risk (ie, with African Surgical Outcomes Study Surgical Risk Calculator scores ≥10) and usual care for those at low risk (intervention group), or for all patients to receive usual postoperative care (control group). Health-care providers and participants were not masked, but data assessors were. The primary outcome was 30-day in-hospital mortality of patients at low and high risk, measured at the participant level. All analyses were done as allocated (by cluster) in all patients with available data. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov , NCT03853824 . Findings Between May 3, 2019, and July 27, 2020, 594 eligible hospitals indicated a desire to participate across 33 African countries; 332 (56%) were able to recruit participants and were included in analyses. We allocated 160 hospitals (13 275 patients) to provide enhanced postoperative surveillance and 172 hospitals (15 617 patients) to provide standard care. The mean age of participants was 37·1 years (SD 15·5) and 20 039 (69·4%) of 28 892 patients were women. 30-day in-hospital mortality occurred in 169 (1·3%) of 12 970 patients with mortality data in the intervention group and in 193 (1·3%) of 15 242 patients with mortality data in the control group (relative risk 0·96, 95% CI 0·69–1·33; p=0·79). 45 (0·2%) of 22 031 patients at low risk and 309 (5·6%) of 5500 patients at high risk died. No harms associated with either intervention were reported. Interpretation This intervention package did not decrease 30-day in-hospital mortality among surgical patients in Africa at high risk of postoperative morbidity or mortality. Further research is needed to develop interventions that prevent death from surgical complications in resource-limited hospitals across Africa. This work investigates the effect of low frequency vibratory processing for cleaning and washing various machine components parts from rusts and old paints deposits. The experimental investigation was carried out with special prepared samples that were weighted and exposed to paints and rust contaminants. These samples were treated in universal horizontal vibration machine UVHM 4 × 10 with different combination of instrumental processing medium, process fluid, machine amplitude and frequency of oscillations. They were periodically reweighted after processing and compared to etalon with control of quantity of dust that have been removed, sample cleanliness and also other functional parameters. Statistical analysis has been used to characterize ongoing process and full factorial analysis to establish experimental parameters dependency. The result is showing the complex dependence of samples cleanliness to each processing parameters like processing time, amplitude of oscillations, frequency of oscillations, process fluid parameters, instrumental medium, etc. Between this parameters although the most important successively the amplitude of oscillations, the frequency of oscillations the processing medium and the processing fluid depending to his considered composition, the optimal processing time can be reach only by complex combination of all this parameters every of them carry an amplify coefficient. Low frequency oscillations can be used to monitor and optimize washing and cleaning operations of paints and rusts contaminations. That guarantees process automation, its effectiveness for a large industrial application.

International audience; Learning Analytics Dashboards (LADs) are data visualization tools built to empower teachers and learners to make purposeful decisions that impact the learning process. Due to their relatively recent emergence and the scarcity of studies on their design principles, dashboard design remains a major area of investigation in learning analytics research, and large scale diffusion to their stakeholders remains limited. We promote human-centered approaches for LADs design since their success in terms of acceptance and adoption greatly depends on the level of stakeholder involvement in their design. In this paper, we present a tool to support the participatory design of LADs. First experiments during a pilot study with teachers demonstrate that the proposed tool encourages group work, and in-depth exploration of LADs use.

Liver cirrhosis (LC) is an ultimate phase of chronic liver disease. The infor-mation from the abdominal ultrasound (aUS) is one of complementary biological and clinical tests of LC assessment in the lack of liver biopsy. The aim of this study was to compare levels of diagnostic accuracy of some bio-clinical markers for LC detection using an abdominal ultrasound as a surrogate Gold standard. This was a mixed approach of consecutive patients treated for gut diseases between 1990 and 2004 at Lomo Center. LC diagnosed by aUS and confirmed by histopathology was compared to LC diagnosed by Bioclinical tests under ROC, Chi-Square, and Logistics regression (for accuracy diagnosis, Sensitivity, Specificity, AUC, and kappa) at p < 0.05. Out all aged 47.8 ± 14.3 years, 71% men and 29% women with sex ratio of 3M:1W were evaluated. The prevalent aUS LC cirrhosis was 43.5%. Only excessive alcohol intake (aOR = 3.5; 95%CI 1.4 - 8.8), leg oedema (aOR = 5.3; 95% CI 2.2 - 12.8), and icicle sign (aOR = 15.1; 95% CI 5.2 - 44) were the most important and signifi-cant independent determinants of aUS LC. For more, only ERS ≥ 60 mm/1st H (aOR = 10.5; 95% CI 1.3 - 82.4; P = 0.025), AST ≥ 60 IU/L (aOR = 10.4; 95% CI 1.3 - 84), indirect bilirubin ≥ 2 mg/dL (aOR = 6.7; 95% CI 1 - 44.7), pro-thrombin < 60% (aOR = 12; 95% CI 1.7 - 86.8), haemoglobin < 10 gr/dL (aOR = 17; 95% CI 1.4 - 202), and NLR ≥ 3 (aOR = 38.4; 95% CI 3.2 - 456) were the most significant and important independent determinants of aUS LC. The non-invasive aUS combined with the current clinical spectrum and biomarkers might be used as a surrogate Gold standard test for the management of chronic liver disease in poor Central Africa.

Background: Vaginal microbiota dysbiosis could lead to the vaginal health conditions. This imbalance in vaginal microbiota can be due to a number of factors including contraceptive methods. Objective: This study was carrried out to investigate the vaginal microbiota dysbiosis and associated vaginal health outcomes among women under contraception at Musasa health Center. Materials and Methods: This was a cross sectional study. 56 vaginal swab samples were collected from women enrolled in a family planning program, and transported to INES Ruhengeri clinical microbiology laboratory for vaginal microbial community analysis. The outcomes were evaluated by scheduled interviews. Chi square test was used to evaluate association of microbiota imbalances in the vagina and the vaginal health outcomes. Results: Lactobacilli (92.85%) was the most predominant microorganism observed in the vagina. Outcomes of the vaginal microbiota dysbiosis under different contraceptive regimes were observed. Vaginal microbial community imbalance in different family planning methods was statistically significant (x2 = 36.5, P = 0.049048) to be associated with vaginal health outcomes such as bacterial vaginosis, urinary tract infections, candidiasis and vaginitis. The association with contraceptives contraceptive methods and vaginal microbial community dysbiosis was statistically significant (x2 = 96.2403, P = 0.000491). The Implant for 5 years and Intrauterine device (IUD) were statistically significant (x2 = 28.533, P = 0.002681 and x2 = 27, P = 0.004595 respectively) to contribute to the vaginal microbiota balance. Conclusion: This study established that family planning methods could cause vaginal dysbiosis thereby exposing the vagina to adverse health outcomes and poor reproductive health. Women undergoing family planning should seek medical support if any sign of vaginal infection is observed.

Dried leaves of Eucalyptus camaldulensis were finely grinded and fractionated by sieving into four granulometric classes ( 355 μm). The obtained powder fractions were used for essential oil (EO) extraction by hydrodistillation and their phytochemical profile and in vitro antioxidant activities were evaluated. The mother powder (unsieved powder) was used for comparison. Particle size exerted a significant influence (p < 0.05) on the phytochemical composition and in vitro antioxidant properties of the EOs. Comparatively, the mother powder had the highest contents of α-pinene (55.6%), camphene (3.4%) and limonene (3.7%), while 1,8-cineole (26.6% and 22.4%), exo-fenchol (5.6% and 3.5%), α-campholenol (4.2% and 3.4%), L-trans-pinocarveol (5.5% and 2.7%), L-borneol (12.6% and 6.8%) and α-terpineol (16.4% and 7.6%) are the main compounds of EOs from the

- Abstract
For a sustainable Healthcare expenditure policy, it is important to have accurate forecasts to avoid any sort of uncertainty about the rise in Healthcare expenditures. The Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model and the Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) models have got attention and have been the preferred model to forecast Healthcare expenditures for decades. However, it has been found that each of the two models has weaknesses in capturing linear and nonlinear relationships in data. It is with this background that, we proposed a hybrid model, which differs in combining the advantages of Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average and Artificial Neural Networks. The hybrid model was tested on sets of Rwanda total Healthcare expenditure actual data, and the empirical results of the forecasted values in 2027 are 552,881.33 million Rwandan francs. Our results showed the effectiveness of the hybrid model which has a higher prediction accuracy as compared to the existing models. For policymakers to better plan for future resources and estimate the amount of the budget allocated to Healthcare, there is a need of accurate estimation of Healthcare expenditure as it impact government policy and planning.

Public Health, Environmental and Occupational Health - Abstract
Objective: This study was aimed at examining the vulnerability of Central Africa to the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Demographic, health, and socio-economic indicators were used to describe the vulnerability. The study period was from December 31st, 2019 to May 31st, 2020 (i.e. 5 months after the start of the pandemic). Results: According to demographic indicators, African populations appear younger than in Europe, Asia, and North America, where evidence showed a higher lethality of COVID-19 and a higher frequency of hospitalization among the elderly. This highlights the protective effect of the age structure of Central African populations. Their populations face significant vulnerability from high morbidity and a considerable deficit in health care facilities and services. Poverty indicators are not in their favour for a sustainable implementation of effective pandemic control measures. Very low literacy rates in some countries, misinformation, and belief in conspiracy theories could affect the community involvement in the response. Several countries are weakened by other humanitarian crises, including conflicts and other epidemics. The early easing of lockdown restrictions in certain countries could worsen the situation. Conclusion: In this sub-region, where the largest proportion of the population lives in poverty, poor sanitary conditions, conflicts, and humanitarian crises, the question of standards of prevention could appear to be a luxurious idea relegated to the background. Central African countries need financial and logistical support for a sustainable and effective response. These observations could be easily extrapolated to other sub-Saharan sub-regions.

Based on studies focusing on the roles of language in the teaching and the learning of mathematics, three dimensions are distinguished - acting, talking and thinking - interrelated. In order to explore the interactions and progressive transformations of these dimensions during the teaching and the learning of fractions, a teaching sequence was experimented in a specialized class. The sequence is composed of a network of problem focusing on multiplicative relationships inherent in the concept of fraction. In this article, we present the a priori and a posteriori analyses of two of these problems. These analyses are carried out in a didactic framework enriched with a specific perspective on the modes of acting, speaking and thinking the multiplicative relationships in question.

- Abstract
English title: Study by the value chain of the exploitation sector of Bagrus spp. in the Congolese part of Lakes Albert and Edouard The Bagrus spp. operating chain plays an important role in the economy of lakes Albert and Edouard. Its sustainability is compromised by inequalities in the distribution of income. This study aimed at analyzing. This study aimed to analyzing the value chain and all the financial costs occurring along this chain in order to determine the location, the added values and the relative contribution of the different actors in the light of the organization of the sector and the type of governance that governs relationships between actors. Surveys have targeted actors in six value chains. These were chosen on the basis of the product (the nature of the market, geographic location and degree of isolation). The main results concern three types of value chains: domestic, global and mixed. The most common governance model resembles a "directed network". The fisherman is the main generator of value, but it is the wholesalers and commission agents who dominate the sector and capture most of the income. Keywords: Value chain, Bagrus spp., governance, profitability, lake Edouard, lake Albert

Rwanda is adopting a new concept of using an alternative energy source as a cooking fuel, where more than the majority of the population live in a rural area and use wood for all heating needs. Biomass in the form of firewood and charcoal plays a significant part in Rwanda's economy. This accounted for 83 per cent of Rwanda's energy consumption in 2020. Biomass technology can be converted into fuel through some different processes, including solid fuel combustion, digestion, pyrolysis, fermentation and catalyzed reactions. With the government engaging in improving the health and protection of the environment, it becomes mandatory to look for alternative fuels not harmful or way to improve the methodology and the quality of stoves used in the country. In this study, the impacts of using biomass energy were assessed and mitigation measures were also proposed. The result shows that reducing reliance on unsustainable use of wood fuel and adds ongoing efforts in Rwanda to transition from the traditional use of biomass to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) or other improved cooking technology for fuel in a sustainable way. Along with this, the use of biomass for fuel is having harmful effects through health impacts and emissions. The article fills an important gap on the energy literature on Rwanda, as it gives detailed info on the cooking sector.
