Not much has research has so far been done into the peculiarities of health-care organization management. The motivation was to explore the possible perspectives of the health-organization management system in comparison to other business forms. The hypotheses were tested through a questionnaire that was mailed to managers in health-care institutions. It has been confirmed to a certain degree that managers with a medical training background have different managerial scopes, oriented more to their own profession, including economics of their organization, need for enhanced knowledge and, their managerial style. The implications of the study are at two levels. The future design of training programs for top and middle management institutions will be influenced by the results and findings. At the other level, the implications are expected to arouse interest in the field of multidisciplinary education course design as well as some providing possible background for development of business consulting services in the field. Doslej ni bilo veliko raziskanega o posebnostih managementa zdravstvenih organizacij. Motivacija članka je bilo raziskati perspektive managementa v zdravstvenem sistemu v primerjavi z drugimi poslovnimi oblikami. Hipoteze so bile testirane z vprašalnikom, ki smo ga poslali managerjem zdravstvenih inštitucij. Rezultati so do določene stopnje potrdili, da imajo managerji medicinskih poklicev drugačne načine vodenja in so bolj usmerjeni v svoj poklic, ter drugače obravnavajo ekonomiko, potrebo po znanju in svoj managerski stil. Uporabna vrednost študije je na dveh ravneh. Prihodnje načrtovanje programov usposabljanja bo upoštevalo ugotovitve študije vse več pa bo tudi multidisciplinarnega načrtovanja novih izobraževalnih programov za to ciljno skupino.

The entrepreneurial wave after the year 1990 has witnessed the creation of a number of new family businesses in Slovenia. However, the period of socialism caused the tradition of family businesses vanish and new businesses that currently start facing the succession questions do not have clear answers to some dilemmas. On the basis of an international research we studied the attitudes and behaviour of Slovenian family businesses as compared to 16 other countries in order to identify differences and some issues where the Slovenian practice differ for some cultural and other reasons that might cause some problems for the founding generation and/or the future operations of businesses and the opportunities for the new generations of ownermanagers. The research involving 222 small businesses in Slovenia confirmed the view that Slovenian family businesses do not present any extravagant behaviour however, the family orientation is stronger and these firms are rather “closed” to outside managers and investors.Family businesses are intended to be sources of jobs and incomes for families, they are rather conservative on the issue of growth, with more emotions guiding the decision-making process and preferring family members.

Family businesses represent 60-80% of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Slovenia and many of them are approaching the process of succession in the next 5-10 years. This process depends on the values of both founding and succeeding generations. The aim of our study is to investigate transgenerational differences in values, attitudes and behaviours of the founders and their successors (family memebrs). Our study has revealed quite a different structure of life-oriented values, while business-oriented values are similar among generations. Also, the attitudes towards different aspects of family and business are quite similar, although the succeeding generation expresses desire for more freedom in its decision to join the family business or not. While generally the transgenerational differences in values, attitudes and behaviors do not seem to hinder the succession process seriously, these differences have to be taken into account by family business advisors in order to properly structure the succession process to the benefit of all stakeholders.

Namen članka je prikazati odnos do znamčenja oziroma upravljanja z blagovnimi znamkami med malimi in srednje velikimi podjetji. Tradicionalno povezujemo znamčenje z znamkami velikih svetovnih korporacij, pri čemer večkrat pozabljamo, da se tudi mala in srednje velika podjetja na svoj način ukvarjajo s svojimi znamkami. V raziskavi identiciramo štiri tipe podjetij glede na njihov odnos do blagovnih znamk. Poimenujemo jih ignoranti, uporabniki, nizkocenovni ponudniki in diferencirani ponudniki. Če sta prvi dve skupini razdeljeni glede na različno stopnjo kompleksnosti uporabe sicer enostavnega znamčenja in sta uporabljani predvsem na lokalnem trgu, kjer podjetja večinoma poslujejo, lahko za zadnji dve ugotovimo, da sta v skladu z opredelitvijo generične strategije posameznega podjetja in njihovega načina rasti.

The signifi cant expansion of business formation is playing a key role in the transformation of transitional economies. As a result of this and, the development of more entrepreneurial business culture, the role of endogenous venture capital, equity market provision, and the potential for business angels involvement is also growing. Despite these entrepreneurially driven developments, and the encouragement of individuals to establish new businesses, start-up companies in Croatia and Slovenia, they are facing the immediate issue of raising capital. Th is paper undertakes a comparative analysis of business angels in Croatia and Slovenia as part of they represent a key part of the response and solution to this problem. Their primary motivation is capital growth, and they seek to fi ll an equity gap and compensate for failures in the venture capital market wherever they appear. Th e study documents the current state of business angel activity and networking within the private equity market in Croatia and Slovenia, based on interviews and case studies. Th erefore, it informs the analysis of key functions that business angels can play in addressing problems faced by new small businesses in an emergent economic and investment environment.

Basic principles of risk estimation that are well known in the field of financial assets, are concerning real investments as well. An enterprise can be viewed as portfolio of investment projects that cannot be perfectly diversified and where market or beta risk is not the most important risk. In the field of real investments, individual risk and added risk to the total risk of enterprise, besides market risk, have to be estimated. Purposes of the paper are: To research and explain risk components of enterprise real investments and their measurement possibilities, based on Capital Asset Pricing Model ; to point out difficulties to be faced in estimating real investments or investment projects risk, as long term investments ; to propose methodology for creation of the required rate of return of real investments in order to compare it with expected rate of return, calculated from economic and cash flow planning.
