When foreign MNC subsidiaries commercialize their products and services on foreign markets, they oftentimes rely on new marketing approaches such as a new pricing model adapted to local customers and competitors. Since MNC subsidiaries typically suffer from “liabilities of foreignness”, they depend on skilled marketing professionals who possess a deep understanding of host country markets to implement these marketing innovations. However, the value that these individuals can create for MNC subsidiaries vis-à-vis domestic firms and under which host country market conditions their B2B marketing skills are most valuable is poorly understood. We integrate mechanisms from research on value creation through marketing innovation in MNC subsidiaries into strategic human capital theory and predict higher value creation to translate into salary premiums for these individuals compared to when they would work for domestic firms. Moreover, we argue that these salary premium effects depend on the innovativeness of the host country competition which challenges MNC subsidiaries and makes marketing innovation even more salient. We test and support our hypotheses using employer-employee data for 25,374 marketing professionals from 2010 to 2012 in Denmark. The findings have broad relevance for the management of strategic human capital management in the creation of marketing innovation.

OBJECTIVE: The study aim was to investigate the use of a novel device, the Vscan Air™, for rapidly and effectively performing ultrasound in student teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. MATERIAL AND METHODS: As part of the ultrasound practical course with integrated hands-on activity required by the regular medical curriculum, 100 medical students were instructed in the use of the Vscan Air™, including duplex mode. They then evaluated the quality of the ultrasound images obtained by the Vscan Air™ from previously selected organs. RESULTS: 100 students were interviewed (female n = 68, male n = 32; age >18 years n = 100). The rated image quality never fell below a mean of 3 for the examined organs and portal vein flow (liver 4,58; spleen 3,99; kidneys 4,29; aorta 4,16; Douglas/rectovesical space 4,14; portal vein 4,43; pancreas 3,53; Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma 4,38). Scores below 3 were found sporadically in ultrasounds of the spleen (n = 4), kidneys (n = 3), Douglas/rectovesical space (n = 2), and pancreas (n = 15). The liver was rated the lowest for 59 ratings. The portal vein was evaluated in 68 cases. The hepatic artery and hepatic veins could be also visualized in all 68 examinations. The aorta was evaluated in 62 cases. CONCLUSION: The Vscan Air™ technology offered adequate image quality and provided a new, fast and patient-oriented technique to support continuous ultrasound examinations and education of students, especially during a pandemic. Particularly noteworthy is the uncomplicated compliance with the required high level of hygiene.

More than 80% of the residents in German hospices suffer from tumor disease. But the administration of supportive-oncological therapies in hospices for symptom control is controversially discussed.This study aims to investigate the care situation of tumor patients in German hospices with regard to medical care and the use of supportive-oncological therapies.In February 2019, all hospices in Germany were offered the opportunity to participate in an anonymous online survey on medical and drug care for their tumor patients. The survey was conducted using the online platform SoSci Survey and ended in April 2019. The analysis was descriptive.Of 202 hospices, 112 responded to the questionnaire. The hospices were distributed nationwide. Most have 8 to 10 places. More than 80% of hospice residents are tumor patients, and the length of stay is usually three to four weeks. Medical care is primarily provided by primary care physicians. While specialized outpatient palliative care is increasingly involved in care, hematologists/oncologists are rarely represented. Supportive-oncological therapies are rarely prescribed, whereas medication for other chronic conditions is often continued. The percentage of supportive-oncological therapies prescribed is higher in hospices with oncology co-care.Although most hospice residents suffer from malignant disease, co-care by a hematologist/oncologist is rare. Supportive-oncology therapies, particularly for symptom relief, may therefore be rarely used. However, since a small select group of hospice residents may benefit from these therapies, further investigation in this direction should be undertaken.

Zusammenfassung Hintergrund COVID-19 betrifft im ambulanten Bereich vor allem auch Palliativpatienten, die im Rahmen der spezialisierten ambulanten Palliativversorgung (SAPV) versorgt werden. Zur Vermeidung von Infektionen wurde die Implementierung von neuen Sicherheitsvorkehrungen und telemedizinischen Kommunikationsmöglichkeiten in die an der Studie beteiligten SAPV erforderlich. Ziel der Arbeit Die Studie untersucht die Auswirkungen der COVID-19-Pandemie auf die persönlichen und sozialen Probleme von Palliativpatienten und ihre Erfahrungen mit der betreuenden SAPV. Material und Methoden 20 SAPV-Patienten wurden in halbstrukturierten Telefoninterviews zu ihren Problemen im Zusammenhang mit der Pandemie und Erfahrungen mit der SAPV-Betreuung befragt. Ergebnisse Angst vor Einsamkeit und Infektion belasten Palliativpatienten sehr. Die meisten Patienten wollten Krankenhausaufenthalte wegen erhöhter Infektionsgefahr vermeiden. Schutzmaßnahmen der SAPV gaben ihnen ein Gefühl der Sicherheit und wurden trotz Einschränkung des persönlichen Kontakts akzeptiert. Moderne Kommunikationsformen waren nützlich, konnten aber den persönlichen Kontakt nicht ersetzen. Diskussion Die Pandemie führte zu Veränderungen in der SAPV und hatte Auswirkungen auf das soziale Umfeld von Palliativpatienten. Schutzmaßnahmen sind für das Sicherheitsgefühl der betreuten Palliativpatienten wichtig. Die Versorgungsqualität der an COVID-19 angepassten SAPV-Struktur wird von den Patienten meist nicht als verschlechtert wahrgenommen. Ängste vor sozialer Isolation nehmen bei den Palliativpatienten einen hohen Stellenwert ein und können durch die SAPV abgebaut werden. Der persönliche Kontakt zur SAPV kann durch moderne Kommunikationsmöglichkeiten nicht ersetzt werden, wobei die Patienten Telemedizin im Sinne einer „Notlösung“ durchaus akzeptieren.

Colon cancer (CC) is a disease of elderly patients (pts.) with a median age of 73 years (yrs.). Lack of data about the effects of adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) is caused by underrepresentation of this clinically relevant cohort in interventional trials. We analyzed real-world data from the German CPP registry with regard to a possible benefit of ACT in elderly (70+ yrs.) versus younger pts. (50 to70 yrs.) taking cause-specific deaths into account.We analyzed the effect of age and ACT on overall survival (OS) and cause-specific death of stage III pts. using Cox regression.In total, 1558 pts. were analyzed and follow-up was 24.6 months. 62.6% of the elderly received ACT whereas 91.1% of younger pts. (p 0.001). Oxaliplatin combinations were significantly less often given to older than younger pts. (38.8% vs. 88.9%; p 0.001). Mean Charlson comorbidity score was significantly lower in pts. that received ACT (0.61) than in those without ACT (1.16; p 0.001). ACT was an independent positive prognostic factor for cancer-related death in elderly pts. even in pts. 75+ yrs. No significant difference in the effect of ACT could be observed between age groups (interaction: cancer-specific death HR = 1.7948, p = 0.1079; death of other cause HR = 0.7384, p = 0.6705).ACT was an independent positive prognostic factor for OS. There may be a cohort of elderly with less co-morbidities who benefit from ACT.

Biallelic mutations of the CEBPA gene (CEBPAbi) define a distinct entity associated with favorable prognosis; however, the role of monoallelic mutations (CEBPAsm) is poorly understood. We retrospectively analyzed 4708 adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who had been recruited into the Study Alliance Leukemia trials, to investigate the prognostic impact of CEBPAsm. CEBPA mutations were identified in 240 patients (5.1%): 131 CEBPAbi and 109 CEBPAsm (60 affecting the N-terminal transactivation domains [CEBPAsmTAD] and 49 the C-terminal DNA-binding or basic leucine zipper region [CEBPAsmbZIP]). Interestingly, patients carrying CEBPAbi or CEBPAsmbZIP shared several clinical factors: they were significantly younger (median, 46 and 50 years, respectively) and had higher white blood cell (WBC) counts at diagnosis (median, 23.7 × 109/L and 35.7 × 109/L) than patients with CEBPAsmTAD (median age, 63 years, median WBC 13.1 × 109/L; P < .001). Co-mutations were similar in both groups: GATA2 mutations (35.1% CEBPAbi; 36.7% CEBPAsmbZIP vs 6.7% CEBPAsmTAD; P < .001) or NPM1 mutations (3.1% CEBPAbi; 8.2% CEBPAsmbZIP vs 38.3% CEBPAsmTAD; P < .001). CEBPAbi and CEBPAsmbZIP, but not CEBPAsmTAD were associated with significantly improved overall (OS; median 103 and 63 vs 13 months) and event-free survival (EFS; median, 20.7 and 17.1 months vs 5.7 months), in univariate and multivariable analyses. Additional analyses revealed that the clinical and molecular features as well as the favorable survival were confined to patients with in-frame mutations in bZIP (CEBPAbZIP-inf). When patients were classified according to CEBPAbZIP-inf and CEBPAother (including CEBPAsmTAD and non-CEBPAbZIP-inf), only patients bearing CEBPAbZIP-inf showed superior complete remission rates and the longest median OS and EFS, arguing for a previously undefined prognostic role of this type of mutation.

Zusammenfassung Ziel der Studie Die Folgen der Covid-19-Pandemie (z. B. Schutzmaßnahmen, digitale Kommunikation) auf die Versorgungsrealität in der SAPV sollen aus Sicht von Mitarbeitern aus SAPV, Pflegeheimen und Hospizen untersucht werden. Methodik Insgesamt wurden jeweils 10 Mitarbeiter aus einer SAPV bzw. Leitungskräfte von Pflegeheimen/Hospiz mittels qualitativer Leitfadeninterviews befragt. Die Auswertung erfolgt mittels qualitativer Inhaltsanalyse nach Mayring. Ergebnisse Neue Schutzmaßnahmen waren für das SAPV-Team sehr bedeutsam. In der SAPV treten Belastungen v. a. durch Abstandsregelungen und erhöhte Arbeitsbelastungen auf. Zu digitalen Kommunikationsformen äußerte sich die Mehrzahl der Befragten positiv, persönlicher Kontakt (zu Patienten/zwischen Fachpersonal) bleibt wichtig. Schlussfolgerung Schutzmaßnahmen führen im Bereich Patientenversorgung und im Team zur Mehrbelastung, vermitteln aber Sicherheit und tragen zur Stressreduktion bei. COVID-19 kann zur Diagnoseverschiebung in der SAPV und zur engeren Zusammenarbeit mit Hausärzten führen.

Functional perturbations of the cohesin complex with subsequent changes in chromatin structure and replication are reported in a multitude of cancers including acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Mutations of its STAG2 subunit may predict unfavorable risk as recognized by the 2022 European Leukemia Net recommendations, but the underlying evidence is limited by small sample sizes and conflicting observations regarding clinical outcomes, as well as scarce information on other cohesion complex subunits. We retrospectively analyzed data from a multi-center cohort of 1615 intensively treated AML patients and identified distinct co-mutational patters for mutations of STAG2, which were associated with normal karyotypes (NK) and concomitant mutations in IDH2, RUNX1, BCOR, ASXL1, and SRSF2. Mutated RAD21 was associated with NK, mutated EZH2, KRAS, CBL, and NPM1. Patients harboring mutated STAG2 were older and presented with decreased white blood cell, bone marrow and peripheral blood blast counts. Overall, neither mutated STAG2, RAD21, SMC1A nor SMC3 displayed any significant, independent effect on clinical outcomes defined as complete remission, event-free, relapse-free or overall survival. However, we found almost complete mutual exclusivity of genetic alterations of individual cohesin subunits. This mutual exclusivity may be the basis for therapeutic strategies via synthetic lethality in cohesin mutated AML.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate a new W-Lan-supported ultrasound mobile technology for the diagnosis of vascular peripheral thrombosis. MATERIAL and METHODS: Fifty patients were examined by an experienced reference sonographer using high-end technology and a W-Lan supported device (VScan Air) to evaluate its diagnostic capabilities for peripheral thrombosis. RESULTS: Fifty patients were examined (age, 25–88 years; male, n = 27, female n = 23). Thromboses were diagnosed in the neck (n = 1), upper leg (n = 7), lower leg (n = 49), and muscle veins (n = 25). VScan Air technique also allows the diagnosis of circumscribed deep vein thrombosis with a sufficient diagnostic certainty. Moreover, for superficial thrombi that can be well-delineated, a maximum image quality is possible compared to high-end technology. CONCLUSION: The mobile VScan technology opens up new possibilities for near-patient and location-independent imaging in cases of deep vein thrombosis.

Simple Summary In Molecular Tumor Boards (MTBs), clinicians and researchers discuss the biology of tumor samples from individual patients to find suitable therapies. MTBs have therefore become key elements of precision oncology programs. Patients living in urban areas with specialized medical centers can easily access MTBs. Dedicated efforts are necessary to also grant equal access for patients from rural areas. To address this challenge, the four German cancer centers in Würzburg, Erlangen, Regensburg and Augsburg collectively measured the regional efficacy of their MTBs. By jointly analyzing the residences of all MTB patients, we uncovered regional differences in our mostly rural catchment area. Mapping and further understanding these local differences—especially the underrepresented white spots—will help resolving inequalities in patient access to precision oncology. Our study represents a hands-on approach to assessing the regional efficacy of a precision oncology program. Moreover, this approach is transferable to other regions and clinical applications. Abstract (1) Background: molecular tumor boards (MTBs) are crucial instruments for discussing and allocating targeted therapies to suitable cancer patients based on genetic findings. Currently, limited evidence is available regarding the regional impact and the outreach component of MTBs; (2) Methods: we analyzed MTB patient data from four neighboring Bavarian tertiary care oncology centers in Würzburg, Erlangen, Regensburg, and Augsburg, together constituting the WERA Alliance. Absolute patient numbers and regional distribution across the WERA-wide catchment area were weighted with local population densities; (3) Results: the highest MTB patient numbers were found close to the four cancer centers. However, peaks in absolute patient numbers were also detected in more distant and rural areas. Moreover, weighting absolute numbers with local population density allowed for identifying so-called white spots—regions within our catchment that were relatively underrepresented in WERA MTBs; (4) Conclusions: investigating patient data from four neighboring cancer centers, we comprehensively assessed the regional impact of our MTBs. The results confirmed the success of existing collaborative structures with our regional partners. Additionally, our results help identifying potential white spots in providing precision oncology and help establishing a joint WERA-wide outreach strategy.

Zusammenfassung Ziel der Studie Tageshospize stellen einen neuen Baustein der palliativmedizinischen Versorgung dar. Daten zu organisatorischen und grundlegenden versorgungsrelevanten Aspekten liegen kaum vor. Diese sollen nun aus Sicht von Patienten und Angehörigen erhoben werden. Methodik In einer schriftlichen Umfrage unter 209 Palliativpatienten und 105 Angehörigen an drei onkologischen Zentren wurden erste Eindrücke zum Bedarf und zur Planungsumsetzung von Tageshospizen ermittelt. Ergebnisse 81 % (n = 169) der Patienten und 75 % (n = 79) der Angehörigen erwarteten einen Benefit durch den Besuch von Tageshospizen. Öffnungszeiten wurden v. a. wochentags von 7:00–19:00 Uhr präferiert. 39 % (n = 41) der Angehörigen fühlten sich durch die Patientenpflege zeitweise überlastet, 80 % (n = 84) gingen von einer Entlastung durch ein Tageshospiz aus. Schlussfolgerung Tageshospize könnten aus Sicht von Patienten und Angehörigen die palliativmedizinische Versorgung sinnvoll ergänzen. Der Bedarf scheint v. a. unter der Woche zu den Hauptarbeitszeiten zu liegen.

Background Infection with SARS‐CoV‐2 leads to COVID‐19, the course of which is highly variable and depends on numerous patient‐specific risk factors. Patients with tumor diseases are considered to be more susceptible to severe COVID‐19; however, they also represent a heterogeneous group of individuals with variable risk. Identifying specific risk factors for a severe course of COVID‐19 in patients with cancer is of great importance. Methods Patients diagnosed with solid tumors or hematological malignancies and PCR‐confirmed SARS‐CoV‐2 infection were included into the multicentric ADHOK (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Hämatologen und Onkologen im Krankenhaus e.V.) coronavirus tumor registry. Detailed information about the patients’ cancer disease, treatment, and laboratory parameters prior to infection, was collected retrospectively. The outcome of the SARS‐CoV‐2 infection was graded according to the WHO. Results A total of 195 patients (68% with solid neoplasms and 32% with hematological malignancies) were included in the registry. Overall, the course of the SARS‐CoV‐2 infection varied greatly, as 69% of all patients were either asymptomatic or encountered a mild to moderate course, while 23% of the cohort died from COVID‐19. In multivariable analysis, preinfection laboratory parameters (determined at least 10 days and a median of 21 days before the first documentation of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection) significantly correlated with severe course of the disease. Out of these, the absolute neutrophil count prior to infection showed the strongest association with COVID‐19‐related death. Conclusion The course of COVID‐19 in patients with tumor diseases is highly variable. Preinfection laboratory parameters may aid to identify patients at risk for severe COVID‐19 at an early stage prior to infection with the virus. Subgroups at risk for severe COVID‐19 are yet imprecisely defined. Laboratory parameters prior to infection, particularly pre‐infection neutrophils, may identify patients at risk for death.

Feldmessgeräte sind zunehmend mit Diagnosefunktionen ausgestattet, um durch eine grosse Testabdeckung ein hohes Mass an Zuverlässigkeit zu erzielen. Diese Diagnosefunktionen erfassen nicht nur Störungen im Feldmessgerät selber, sondern können darüber hinaus auch Informationen über die Umgebung des Feldmessgerätes, nämlich über Medieneigenschaften und sogar über Anlagenkomponenten und damit über den Prozess selbst generieren. Dabei macht man sich die Wirkprinzipien und Technologien der jeweiligen Messtechnik für diese Art von Monitoring zu Nutze. Dieser Beitrag beschreibt, wie Feldgeräte etwa zur Messung von Füllstand oder Durchfluss zu dieser neuen Fähigkeit ertüchtigt und wie die erweiterte Diagnosefunktionalitäten für eine Verifikation mit hoher Testabdeckung genutzt werden können, um beispielseise den Bedarf an Kalibrierung für das Feldmessgerät zu reduzieren.

Higher doses of cytarabine appear to improve long-term outcome in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), in particular for younger patients. To this end, the optimal dosage of single agent cytarabine in consolidation therapy remains elusive. Here, we assessed the impact of different dosages of cytarabine consolidation after 7 + 3 induction on outcome in a large real-world data set from the German Study Alliance Leukemia-Acute Myeloid Leukemia (SAL-AML) registry. Patients below 65 years of age, registered between April 2005 and September 2020, who attained complete remission after intensive induction and received at least one consolidation cycle with intermediate (IDAC) or high dose cytarabine (HiDAC) were selected. To account for differences in patient and disease characteristics between both groups, the average treatment effect was estimated by propensity score weighting. Six-hundred-forty-two patients received HiDAC consolidation with median dosage of median 17.6 (IQR, 16.5–18.0) g/m² for a median number of 3 cycles (IQR, 2–3), whereas 178 patients received IDAC consolidation with 5.9 (IQR, 5.7–8.6) g/m² for a median of 2 cycles (IQR, 1–3). Both groups differed significantly in some important characteristics (age, sex, cytogenetic risk group, ECOG performance status, disease status, HCT-CI, number of induction cycles). After propensity score weighting for differences in patient and disease characteristics, relapse-free survival after 2 years was comparable between HiDAC-treated (55.3%) and IDAC-treated (55.6%) patients. Moreover, no significant differences in overall survival were observed after 2 years (84.7 vs. 80.6%). Zusammenfassung Hintergrund Orale Tyrosinkinaseinhibitor (TKI)-Therapien werden zunehmend wichtiger in der Therapie maligner Erkrankungen. Die Therapiekontrolle mit Fokus auf Adharenz, Nebenwirkungen und Interaktionen stellt die Medizin vor neue Herausforderungen. Die Rolle und die Moglichkeiten von Hausarzt*innen in der Versorgung von TKI-Patient*innen sind bislang unklar und sollen in einer deutschlandweiten Umfrage erfasst werden. Methode Von April - Juli 2016 wurden 3.000 Hausarzt*innen in Deutschland schriftlich zu den Moglichkeiten einer Mitbetreuung von TKI-Patient*innen befragt. Ergebnisse Der Rucklauf betrug 18% (n = 553). Der Altersgipfel lag zwischen 50-60 Jahren. 81% waren Allgemeinarzt*innen, 14% Internist*innen und 5% Praktische Arzt*innen. 98% betreuten keine oder weniger als 10 TKI-Patient*innen pro Quartal. Das Wissen um Nebenwirkungen und Interaktionspotential von TKI war bei uber 90% gering. 83% bevorzugten eine Therapiekontrolle durch den behandelnden Facharzt*in und 93% fuhlten sich unsicher in der Therapiekontrolle. Die TKI-Adharenzkontrolle nahm bei 66% einen geringen Stellenwert ein. Die Zahl der betreuten TKI-Patienten*innen hatte einen wesentlichen Einfluss auf Wissen und Betreuungsmoglichkeiten. Wissen uber TKI und Sicherheit in der Therapiekontrolle korrelierten signifikant. Jungere Arzt*innen zeigten sich tendenziell sicherer in Therapiekontrollen. Internist*innen hatten tendenziell mehr Kenntnisse als Allgemeinarzt*innen und Praktische Arzt*innen. Diskussion Niedrige TKI-Patient*innenzahlen, geringes Wissen uber TKI und Wunsch nach facharztlicher Betreuung schranken aktuell die Moglichkeiten zur Mitversorgung von TKI-Patient*innen durch Hausarzt*innen ein. Schlussfolgerung Trotz einer grundsatzlichen Motivation zur Betreuung von Tumorpatient*innen scheinen routinemasige Therapiekontrollen von TKI-Patient*innen durch Hausarzt*innen aktuell kaum umzusetzen und sollte zurzeit bei den betreuenden Facharzt*innen verbleiben.

Background The Matutes score (MS) was proposed to differentiate chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) from other B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas (B-NHLs). However, ambiguous immunophenotypes are common and remain a diagnostic challenge. Therefore, we evaluated the diagnostic benefit of measuring CD200 and CD43 expression together with the standard MS antigens. Methods 138 lymphoma patient samples and a validation cohort of 138 additive samples were classified according to the standard MS and further assigned with one or two additional points, for high CD200 and/or CD43 expression levels. The "classical" MS and the "Matutes score-extended" (MS-e) were categorized as high (4-5/6-7), intermediate (2-3/4-5), and low (0-1/0-3). Samples were reclassified into the MS-e with focus on ambiguous cases with an intermediate "classical" MS. Results A total of 35 of 138 (25.4%) patient samples were assigned to the intermediate MS group and confirmed by histopathological reports as CLL (14/40.0%) and B-NHLs other than CLL (21/60%). MS-e analysis identified 13 of 14 (92.9%) of CLL cases (MS-e 4-5) and 18/21 (85.7%) non-CLL cases (MS-e ≤ 3) correctly. Overall, the sensitivity of the CLL diagnosis was significantly increased by application of MS-e compared to the "classical" MS (98.8% vs. 82.7%; p = 0.0009), while specificity of both methods was almost equal (94.7% vs. 98.3%; p = 0.4795). Of note, sole measurement of CD43 and CD200 on B-cells sufficiently differentiated CLL from non-CLL with a test accuracy superior to the "classical" MS (F1 score 96.2 vs. 93.6). Conclusion CD200 and CD43 have a high informative value in diagnostic immunophenotyping and facilitate the separation of CLL from other B-NHLs particularly in ambiguous cases.

Zusammenfassung Ziel der Studie Neben der palliativmedizinischen Versorgung fordern die Deutsche und die Europäische Gesellschaft für Palliativmedizin die Berücksichtigung der sozialen Bedürfnisse von Patienten mit weit fortgeschrittenen und unheilbaren Erkrankungen. Soziale Isolation kann die Lebensqualität und den Krankheitsverlauf verschlechtern oder zur Verkürzung der Lebensdauer führen. Diese Arbeit soll den Effekt eines Integrationsprojekts auf den persönlichen (Lebensqualität, Selbstsicherheit, Krankheitsbewältigung) und sozialen (gesellschaftliche Reintegration) Nutzen für Palliativpatienten analysieren. Methodik Im Anschluss an eine mehrtägige Reise für Palliativpatienten nach Rom wurden 17 Teilnehmer und sieben Betreuer zum soziopsychologischen Gewinn mittels audioregistrierter telefonischer Leitfadeninterviews befragt. Die Interviews wurden transkribiert und in einem mehrstufigen Prozess inhaltsanalytisch ausgewertet und zusammengefasst. Ergebnisse Eine organisierte Reise steigerte die soziale Integration, Lebensqualität und Selbstsicherheit von Palliativpatienten und führte zu einer besseren Krankheitsbewältigung. Schlussfolgerung Die Aussagen von Patienten und Betreuern spiegeln die Notwendigkeit und den Nutzen der gesellschaftlichen Integration von Palliativpatienten wider.

Mutations of the isocitrate dehydrogenase-1 (IDH1) and IDH2 genes are among the most frequent alterations in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and can be found in ∼20% of patients at diagnosis. Among 4930 patients (median age, 56 years; interquartile range, 45-66) with newly diagnosed, intensively treated AML, we identified IDH1 mutations in 423 (8.6%) and IDH2 mutations in 575 (11.7%). Overall, there were no differences in response rates or survival for patients with mutations in IDH1 or IDH2 compared with patients without mutated IDH1/2. However, distinct clinical and comutational phenotypes of the most common subtypes of IDH1/2 mutations could be associated with differences in outcome. IDH1-R132C was associated with increased age, lower white blood cell (WBC) count, less frequent comutation of NPM1 and FLT3 internal tandem mutation (ITD) as well as with lower rate of complete remission and a trend toward reduced overall survival (OS) compared with other IDH1 mutation variants and wild-type (WT) IDH1/2. In our analysis, IDH2-R172K was associated with significantly lower WBC count, more karyotype abnormalities, and less frequent comutations of NPM1 and/or FLT3-ITD. Among patients within the European LeukemiaNet 2017 intermediate- and adverse-risk groups, relapse-free survival and OS were significantly better for those with IDH2-R172K compared with WT IDH, providing evidence that AML with IDH2-R172K could be a distinct entity with a specific comutation pattern and favorable outcome. In summary, the presented data from a large cohort of patients with IDH1/2 mutated AML indicate novel and clinically relevant findings for the most common IDH mutation subtypes.

We compare individuals presently employed either at a university, or at a firm from an R&D-intensive sector, and analyze which of their personal-specific and employer-specific characteristics are related to their choice to leave their present employer for an own startup. Our data set combines the population of Danish employees with their present employers. We focus on persons who at least hold a Bachelor's degree in engineering, sciences and health and track them over 2001-2012. We show that (i) there are overall few differences between the characteristics of university and corporate startup entrepreneurs, (ii) common factors associated with startup activity of both university and corporate employees are education, top management team membership, previous job mobility and being male, (iii) it is primarily human capital-related characteristics that are related to startup choice of university employees while (iv) the characteristics of the present workplace are the foremost factors of entrepreneurial activity by corporate employees.

Introduction The Covid-19 pandemic has caused great personal stress for medical staff. To ensure adequate outpatient care for cancer patients, extensive safety and hygiene measures must be taken. This interview-based study examines the effects–both personal and professional–of the pandemic on the work routine of outpatient hematology/oncology nurses and medical assistants. Patients, materials and methods Half a year after the outbreak of Covid-19 and the introduction of infection control regulations in three outpatient hematological/oncological centers, the affected medical staff (n = 15) were surveyed about the consequences for patient care and clinical work using audio-recorded telephone interviews. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using a qualitative content analysis. Results The Covid-19 pandemic has complicated the medical care of cancer patients, but only a slight deterioration of medical and psycho-oncological care was observed. The level of stress experienced by medical staff is moderate, with hygiene and safety measures at the workplace helping to reduce stress. Conclusion From the point of view of medical staff, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a moderate impact on the outpatient care of cancer patients. Safety measures against Covid-19 are decisive for ensuring the continuation of therapy and for motivating employees.

Understanding government institutions in a host country is crucial for MNC subsidiaries. This is challenging, as host-country institutions not only relate to formal institutions, such as laws and regulations, but also to informal institutions, like traditions and beliefs. We study the hiring of employees with government work experience as a channel through which foreign MNC subsidiaries can better understand host-country institutions. Government work represents a context in which employees have opportunities to accumulate knowledge about how formal and informal institutions shape government procedures, and to develop political connections. Drawing from strategic human capital theory, we hypothesize that foreign MNC subsidiaries pay these employees salary premiums vis-à-vis domestic firms because they expect them to offer unique value. We find support for this hypothesis using data for 9,698 former government employees in Denmark. Salary premiums increase with government saliency in the industry and with seniority in the government. Our results shed light on how certain types of human capital can create value for foreign MNC subsidiaries and inform career choices of government officials. They suggest that future research should explore other types of host-country work experiences that could create value for foreign MNC subsidiaries when they are hiring.

Can publicly available, web-scraped data be used to identify promising business startups at an early stage? To answer this question, we use such textual and non-textual information about the names of Danish firms and their addresses as well as their business purpose statements (BPSs) supplemented by core accounting information along with founder and initial startup characteristics to forecast the performance of newly started enterprises over a five years' time horizon. The performance outcomes we consider are involuntary exit, above-average employment growth, a return on assets of above 20 percent, new patent applications and participation in an innovation subsidy program. Our first key finding is that our models predict startup performance with either high or very high accuracy with the exception of high returns on assets where predictive power remains poor. Our second key finding is that the data requirements for predicting performance outcomes with such accuracy are low. To forecast the two innovation-related performance outcomes well, we only need to include a set of variables derived from the BPS texts while an accurate prediction of startup survival and high employment growth needs the combination of (i) information derived from the names of the startups, (ii) data on elementary founder-related characteristics and (iii) either variables describing the initial characteristics of the startup (to predict startup survival) or business purpose statement information (to predict high employment growth). These sets of variables are easily obtainable since the underlying information is mandatory to report upon business registration. The substantial accuracy of our predictions for survival, employment growth, new patents and participation in innovation subsidy programs indicates ample scope for algorithmic scoring models as an additional pillar of funding and innovation support decisions.

Early results of the randomized placebo-controlled SORAML trial showed that, in patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), sorafenib led to a significant improvement in event-free (EFS) and relapse-free survival (RFS). In order to describe second-line treatments and their implications on overall survival (OS), we performed a study after a median follow-up time of 78 months. Newly diagnosed fit AML patients aged ≤60 years received sorafenib (n = 134) or placebo (n = 133) in addition to standard chemotherapy and as maintenance treatment. The 5-year EFS was 41 versus 27% (HR 0.68; p = 0.011) and 5-year RFS was 53 versus 36% (HR 0.64; p = 0.035). Allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo SCT) was performed in 88% of the relapsed patients. Four years after salvage allo SCT, the cumulative incidence of relapse was 54 versus 35%, and OS was 32 versus 50%. The 5-year OS from randomization in all study patients was 61 versus 53% (HR 0.82; p = 0.282). In conclusion, the addition of sorafenib to chemotherapy led to a significant prolongation of EFS and RFS. Although the OS benefit did not reach statistical significance, these results confirm the antileukaemic activity of sorafenib.

The creation of antitumor agents with an oral or subcutaneous route of administration has had important positive implications in the development of drugs to treat cancers, but issues such as false drug intake, uncontrolled side effects, and limited supervision may jeopardize the ability of these agents to improve treatment. A potential solution is the recruitment of non-physician healthcare professionals (i.e., nurses and physician assistants) and a special training course for them that focuses on the improvement of patient compliance. We developed and implemented three special professional training modules for non-physician healthcare professionals, which focus on the pharmacological aspects and side effects of oral and subcutaneous antitumor medications in regard to management strategies and communication issues that these non-physician healthcare professionals should address. Subsequently, we administered a questionnaire survey evaluating the course content and the implementation of the course in practice to the training participants to collect data for its implementation. Of 165 questionnaires that were administered, 44 (27%) were answered. The participants rated the course as being highly useful for their daily work. The participants reported a significant improvement in their professional expertise from the course. They emphasized the importance of medical topics and practical content to be included in the course delivery. The course encouraged 75% of the responders to start independent consultations with cancer patients that focused on questions of medication adherence for oral and subcutaneous antitumor medications, as well as the management of their side effects. Based on our results, at least a portion of the non-physician healthcare workforce is highly interested in engaging in active and autonomous co-supervision of patients who are treated with oral and subcutaneous antitumor medications. In addition to the theoretical basics of the treatment modalities, educational courses on oral and subcutaneous antitumor medications for non-physician healthcare professionals should focus on practical training and topics relevant to patient care.

Flow cytometry (FC) facilitates diagnosis of peripheral T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (T-NHL), but overlapping features between reactive and neoplastic T-cell proliferations often hamper a rapid assessment. One hundred forty peripheral blood samples submitted to diagnostic FC for T-cell immunophenotyping were retrospectively analyzed. A T-cell population with a conspicuous aberrant surface epitope expression pattern was observed in 18 cases and diagnostic follow up was performed. The aberrant T-cell population exhibited a low scatter profile, a CD7-negative/low, CD8-low and CD3-positive immunophenotype, and monoclonal T-cell receptor expansion. T-NHL was ruled out by follow up in all cases. Epstein-Barr virus infection was diagnosed in 12 cases, cytomegalovirus infection in three cases, one patient had been vaccinated. The irregular subpopulation disappeared spontaneously within days or weeks. We describe a novel peripheral blood T-cell subpopulation with a low light scatter and CD8-low, CD7-negative/low and CD3-positive marker expression profile, which indicates reactive T-cell expansion in patients who present with peripheral lymphadenopathy and/or B symptoms.

Background There is controversy regarding the practical implementation of symptom-focused oncological cancer therapies to hospice residents. In this study, we aim to analyse the use and indication of supportive-oncological cancer therapies in hospices. Methods We conducted a retrospective survey of all residents of two hospice centres in the government district of Lower Bavaria, Germany. Hospice 1 (H1) was a member of an oncological–palliative medical network, and hospice 2 (H2) was independently organized. The evaluation period was the first 40 months after the opening of the respective hospice care centre. Demographical and epidemiological data as well as indications and type of supportive-oncological cancer therapies were recorded. A descriptive analysis and statistical tests were performed. Results Of the 706 residents, 645 had an underlying malignant disease. The average age was 72 years and the mean residence time was 28 days. In fit patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML), immediate treatment start is recommended due to the poor prognosis of untreated acute leukemia. We explored the relationship between time from diagnosis to treatment start (TDT) and prognosis in a large real-world data set from the German Study Alliance Leukemia–Acute Myeloid Leukemia (SAL-AML) registry. All registered non–acute promyelocytic leukemia patients with intensive induction treatment and a minimum 12 months of follow-up were selected (n = 2263). We analyzed influence of TDT on remission, early death, and overall survival (OS) in univariable analyses for each day of treatment delay, in groups of 0 to 5, 6 to 10, 11 to 15, and >15 days of TDT, adjusted for influence of established prognostic variables on outcomes. Median TDT was 3 days (interquartile range, 2-7). Unadjusted 2-year OS rates, stratified by TDT of 0 to 5, 6 to 10, 11 to 15, and >15 days, were 51%, 48%, 44%, and 50% (P = .211). In multivariable Cox regression analysis accounting for established prognostic variables, the TDT hazard ratio as a continuous variable was 1.00 (P = .617). In OS analyses, separately stratified for age ≤60 and >60 years and for high vs lower initial white blood cell count, no significant differences between TDT groups were observed. Our study suggests that TDT is not related to survival. As stratification in intensive first-line AML treatment evolves, TDT data suggest that it may be a feasible approach to wait for genetic and other laboratory test results so that clinically stable patients are assigned the best available treatment option. Die Prozessanalytik gibt Aufschluss über die stoffliche Zusammensetzung von Medien in verfahrenstechnischen Prozessen und bildet die entscheidende Basis für eine Optimierung dieser Prozesse. Wünschenswert ist dabei, die analytische Messtechnik prozessnah als Feldgerät verfügbar zu haben. Dieser Beitrag beschreibt relevante Verfahren der Prozessanalytik und zeigt mit welchen Methoden und Technologien Analysenmesstechnik als prozessnahe Feldgeräte implementiert werden kann.

Der Beitrag setzt sich kritisch mit einem derzeit häufig rezipierten Verständnis des Begriffs ›Formfunktion‹ (formal function) auseinander, das im Anschluss u.a. an die Formenlehre von Erwin Ratz im nordamerikanischen Diskurs entwickelt wurde. Ausgehend von dieser Kritik legt der Beitrag anhand der Formfunktionen ›Hauptsatz‹ (main theme), ›Überleitung‹ (transition), ›Seitensatz‹ (subordinate theme) und ›Schlussgruppe‹ (closing section) eine alternative Auffassung für die musikalische Analyse von Sonatenhauptsätzen dar, die an Sonatenkompositionen aus der zweiten Hälfte des 18. sowie des frühen 19. Jahrhunderts veranschaulicht wird. // This essay offers a critical view of a frequently adopted understanding of the term ›formal function‹, which had been established in North America in response to the theories of Erwin Ratz. Applying this critical view to the formal functions ›main theme‹, ›transition‹, ›subordinate theme‹, and ›closing section‹, an alternative concept for the musical analysis of sonata form is developed and illustrated with compositions from the second half of the eighteenth century and the early nineteenth century.

Research Summary: A learning-by-hiring approach is used to scrutinize scientists' mobility in relation to the recruiting firms' subsequent innovation output. Our starting point is that among firm hires, individuals with university research experience—hired from universities or firms—can be particularly valuable. However, conflicting institutional logics between academia and industry makes working with academic scientists challenging at times for firms. We suggest two solutions to this difficulty: hiring “ambidextrous” individuals with a mix of experience of university research and working for a technologically advanced firm, and a strong organizational research culture in the recruiting firm reflected by the presence of a scientist on the top management team. We track the mobility of R&D workers empirically using patent and linked employer-employee data. Managerial Summary: An important way to make organizations more innovative is hiring individual researchers with the right types of skills and experience. We show that individuals with university research experience beyond their final degree are particularly likely to help boost firm-level innovation output after hiring compared to R&D workers with other types of skills and experience. However, to obtain good returns to innovation from hiring such individuals, firms need a university research–friendly organizational culture when hiring individuals with university research experience, from either firms or academia.

Background: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is characterized by a high relapse rate, indicating insufficient clearance of leukemia-initiating cells. Depending on genetic risk stratification, consolidating chemotherapy proves to significantly reduce the risk of relapse. In particular, in younger AML patients higher dosage of cytarabine appears to improve long-term outcome, while there is no apparent benefit of multiagent combination, compared to cytarabine monotherapy. However, to this end the optimal dosage of single agent cytarabine in consolidation therapy after 7+3 remission induction remains elusive. Methods: Here, we retrospectively assessed the impact of different dosages of cytarabine consolidation on outcome in a large real-world data set from the German Study Alliance Leukemia-Acute Myeloid Leukemia (SAL-AML) registry. Patients below 65 years of age, registered between April 2005 and September 2020 with non-acute promyelocytic leukemia, who attained complete remission after intensive induction and received at least one consolidation cycle with intermediate (IDAC) or high dose cytarabine (HiDAC) were selected. To account for differences in patient and disease characteristics between both groups, the average treatment effect was estimated by propensity score weighting. Results: 642 patients received HiDAC consolidation with a median dosage of 5794.88 (IQR, 4745.48-5971.56) mg/m 2/d with a median number of 3 cycles (IQR, 2-3), whereas 178 patients received IDAC consolidation with 1946.16 (IQR, 1869.51-2469.15) mg/m 2/d with a median of 2 cycles (IQR, 1-3). IDAC-treated patients showed in average a higher age (median (IQR) 58.5 (49-62) years vs. 50 (41-56) years) and more comorbidities with 43.8% having an HCT-CI score of 2-4, compared to 22.3% among HiDAC-treated patients. Alongside, significantly more secondary (5.1% vs. 3.1%) and therapy-related (12.4% vs. 4.1%) AML as well as more adverse (14.5% vs. 6.5%) and less favorable (40.6% vs. 56%) genetic risk features according to ELN 2017 risk classification were found among IDAC-treated patients. After propensity score weighting for differences in patient and disease characteristics, overall survival after 5 years was comparable between HiDAC-treated (71.1 %) and IDAC-treated (67.7%) patients. Moreover, no significant differences in relapse-free survival were observed after 5 years (47.4 vs. 45.2%). Notably, more patients treated with IDAC received allogeneic stem cell transplantation in first remission (37.6 vs. 19.8%) while significantly more HiDAC-treated patients underwent allogeneic stem cell transplantation in relapse (30.8 vs. 20.2%). Censoring for allogeneic stem cell transplantation in first remission revealed no significant survival difference with regard to cytarabine dosage. Considering only ELN favorable risk AML patients, there was no difference in 5-years overall (80.5% vs. 83.9%) nor relapse-free (57.7% vs. 56.8%) survival. Of note, significantly more patients treated with HiDAC suffered from ≥3 CTCAE infectious complications (56.7 vs. 44.1%), which was more striking in patients above 50 years of age. The rate of other ≥3 CTCAE non-hematological toxicities and secondary malignancies was comparable in both treatment groups. Conclusion: This retrospective analysis suggests no significant benefit of high dose cytarabine compared to intermediate dosages in consolidation for AML patients under 65 years of age, independent of ELN risk group. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a hematologic malignancy that is treated in medically fit patients with intensive induction chemotherapy (IT) and postremission therapy to achieve a complete and long-term remission. The incidence of obesity in the general population is steadily increasing and has been identified as a major risk factor for all-cause mortality. Despite previous studies assessing the role of obesity in AML patients undergoing IT, there is an ongoing debate on the impact of obesity on patient outcome as well as the optimal dosing strategy in obese AML patients. We conducted a retrospective registry study assessing 1677 AML patients who were treated with IT for newly diagnosed AML. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS) while event-free survival (EFS), the rate of first complete remission (CR1), relapse/refractory disease and non-relapse/refractory-related mortality (NRRrM), treatment-related toxicities, patient comorbidities and chemotherapy dosing strategies were analyzed as secondary endpoints. Obese patients (body mass index, BMI ≥ 30) displayed a significant inferior median OS (29.44 vs. 47.94 months, p = 0.015) without a significant difference in median EFS (7.8 vs. 9.89 months, p = 0.3) compared to non-obese patients (BMI < 30). The cumulative incidence (CI) of NRRrM was significantly increased in obese patients compared to non-obese patients while no differences could be observed regarding the CI of relapsed or refractory disease. Obesity was identified as an independent risk factor for death (HR 1.27, [95% CI 1.07-1.51], p = 0.005) in a multivariable Cox regression analysis. When the cohort was stratified by age (≥/< 60 years), the difference in OS as well as the significantly increased CI of NRRrM was only observed in patients ≥ 60 years. Notably, obese patients demonstrated higher rates of cardiovascular and metabolic comorbidities regardless of their age. No disparities for OS, EFS, CR1 rate or treatment-related toxicities were observed when the entire study population was stratified for the used dosing strategy (dose calculation using total body weight, idealized body weight, adjusted idealized body weight or capped at body surface area of 2 m 2). In conclusion, the present study identifies obesity as a major independent risk factor for worse overall survival and increased CI of non-relapse/refractory-related mortality in older (≥60 years) AML patients undergoing curative IT. These findings may be most likely attributed to obesity related comorbidities and not to dose adaption of chemotherapy in obese AML patients. Background In a recent phase-III trial CPX-351 (Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Palo Alto, CA), a liposomal encapsulation of cytarabine and daunorubicin, has shown higher remission rates and longer overall survival (OS) in patients aged 60 to 75 years with AML with myelodysplasia-related changes (AML-MRC) or therapy-related AML (t-AML) in comparison to conventional 7+3 regimen. Based on this CPX-351 has been approved in the USA 2017 and in Europe 2018 for adult patients with newly-diagnosed AML-MRC or t-AML. Introduction Five months after COVID-19 first occurred and protective regulations were introduced, patients at three outpatient hematological/oncological centers in Bavaria who had received antiproliferative tumor therapy (n = 30) were questioned about the pandemic’s impact. Patients, materials and methods In recorded semi-structured telephone interviews, the patients answered questions about their quality of life, treatment procedures, their relationship with medical care staff and modern communication technologies. Each interview consisted of 28 questions. The average length of an interview was 30 minutes. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed by means of a qualitative content analysis according to Mayring. Results The COVID-19 pandemic adds to the burden of patients by decreasing their social contacts. They perceived the new isolation and protective measures in outpatient clinics as mostly positive and said its impact had been only slightly adverse. With the implemented safety measures, they feel adequately protected and looked after and want their antiproliferative therapy to be performed as scheduled. Talking to medical staff provides additional reassurance. Conclusion Although the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the social isolation of tumor patients, it has had only a minor effect on tumor therapy in the surveyed patient population. The benefits of modern communication options to tumor patients remains uncertain and should be investigated further in future studies.

Oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapies are becoming increasingly more important in the treatment of malignant diseases. Monitoring with focus on adherence, side effects and interactions poses new challenges for medical care. The role and capabilities of family doctors in the care of TKI patients are yet unclear and should be uncovered in a nationwide survey.From April to July 2016, 3,000 family doctors in Germany were asked to complete a written questionnaire regarding their capabilities for co-supervision of TKI patients.The response rate was 18% (n=553). The peak age was between 50 and 60 years. 81% were specialists in general medicine, 14% specialists in internal medicine and 5% general practitioners. 98% cared for no or less than 10 TKI patients per quarter. Knowledge of side effects and interaction potential of TKIs was low in over 90%. 83% preferred monitoring by the treating oncologist and 93% felt uncertain about treatment monitoring. The control of adherence was of little importance in 66%. The number of treated TKI patients had a significant impact on knowledge and opportunities for treatment monitoring. There was a significant correlation between knowledge about TKIs and confidence in treatment monitoring. In general, younger doctors tended to be more confident in treatment monitoring, and specialists in internal medicine tended to have more knowledge than specialists in general medicine general practitioners and general practitioners.Currently, the low number of TKI patients, little knowledge about TKI, and the desire for specialist care are limiting the possibilities of co-caring for TKI patients by family doctors.Although family doctors are generally motivated to care for tumor patients, routine treatment controls of TKI patients conducted by family doctors seem hardly possible at the moment and should currently remain with the specialist.

Research Summary: The ability of innovative firms to create and capture value depends on innovations that are quickly and widely adopted. Yet, stakeholder concerns can establish important barriers to diffusion. We study the human capital aspect of this challenge and investigate whether innovative firms pay salary premiums to new hires with work experience from advocacy groups like Transparency International. We integrate strategic human capital with stakeholder theory and suggest that advocacy group experience creates signals for valuable human capital in terms of stakeholder knowledge and legitimacy transfers to innovative firms. Using matched data for 3,562 employees in Denmark, we find that new hires with advocacy group experience enjoy larger salary premiums at technologically leading firms, in occupations with direct stakeholder interaction, and for advocacy group top management.Managerial Summary: Innovation research is increasingly aware of the non‐technological factors behind successful innovations. Users, regulators, or public opinion can be benevolent supporters or stingy opponents of innovations. Employees with an understanding of the needs and sensitivities of societal stakeholders should therefore be valuable to innovative firms. We find this to be the case when innovative firms hire employees from advocacy groups representing such stakeholders (e.g., Transparency International). Such employees receive higher salaries than an otherwise comparable reference group. These findings indicate that recruiting needs of innovative firms reward stakeholder experience, not merely technological expertise. They demonstrate how firms can create value in the pursuit of the public interest. Further, advocacy groups emerge as an important career stage allowing individuals to develop credible signals for stakeholder expertise.

We study the effects of a Danish wage subsidy program for highly educated workers on the performance of the persons and firms participating in the program. Using data on the population of program participants, both workers and firms, we find that the program had positive effects on employment and annual earnings during program participation while there are no positive effects for the years after program expiration. At the employer-level, we find statistically significant effects on the number of highly educated employees for both the period of program participation and the subsequent time period. For the total number of employees we only find positive effects during program participation while there are no statistically significant effects for value added, net income, return on assets, wages per employee and labor productivity.

This analysis reports on 72 patients with relapsed or refractory non-Hodgkin lymphoma who were treated with R-DHAP salvage chemotherapy regimen followed by high-dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplantation. The overall remission rate was 58.3%. Median time of follow-up was 28.7 months. Median progression-free survival was 29 months, estimated median overall survival was 37 months. Within a matched pair analysis these results were compared to a group that received DHAP salvage therapy without rituximab showing similar overall response rates and better estimated five-year overall survival of 59.2% versus 43.5%. R-DHAP therapy was shown to be effective and feasible with acceptable toxicity.

We use administrative textual and non-textual data retrieved from publicly available archives to predict the performance of Danish startups at the time of foundation. The performance outcomes we consider are survival, high employment growth, a return on assets of above 20 percent, new patent applications and participation in an innovation subsidy program. We consider a base specification that includes variables for legal form, region, ownership and industry in all specifications and add variable sets representing firm names, business purpose statements (BPSs) as well as founder and startup characteristics. To forecast the two innovation-related performance outcomes well, we only need to include a set of variables derived from the BPS texts on top of the base variables while an accurate prediction of startup survival requires the combination of the firm names and the BPS variables along with founder characteristics. An accurate forecast of high employment growth needs the combination of the BPS variables and the founder characteristics. All information our forecasts require is likely to be easily obtainable since the underlying information is mandatory to report upon business registration in many countries. The substantial accuracy of our predictions for survival, employment growth, new patents and participation in innovation subsidy programs indicates ample scope for algorithmic scoring models as an additional pillar of funding and innovation support decisions.
