A portable and wireless surface electromyography device was developed for tracking the regional muscular activities of lumbar disc herniated patients. Previous studies showed that there is relation between paraspinal muscular activities and lumbar disc herniation. These studies encouraged us to develop a novel wireless surface electromyography device to follow muscular activities of lumbar disc herniated patients. Using such kind of wireless system in lumbar disc herniation studies leads to follow muscular activities practically. The overall system would lead to make diagnosis of lumbar disc herniation with a novel approach. The developed system consists of four major stages; amplification, filtering, A/D conversion, and the wireless communication stages. Bluetooth technology is chosen for communication between the proposed device and the computer. The designed device can be fully controlled within MATLAB software, and measured data can be directly streamed to computer environment. As a demonstration of the developed system, we also did certain signal processing operations in MATLAB by using measured surface electromyography signals, Bel fıtıklı hastaların bölgesel kas faaliyetlerinin takibi amacıyla portatif ve kablosuz bir yüzey elektromiyografi cihazı geliştirilmiştir. Önceki çalışmalar paraspinal kas aktiviteleri ile bel fıtığı arasında ilişki olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu çalışmalar bel fıtıklı hastaların kas faaliyetlerini takip amacıyla yeni bir kablosuz yüzey elektromiyografi cihazı yapmaya teşvik etmiştir. Böyle kablosuz cihazın kullanımı bel fıtıklı hastaların kas akitivitelerini daha kolay takibini sağlayacaktır. Genel olarak sistem yeni bir yaklaşım ile bel fıtığı teşhisinin yapılabilmesinin önünü açabilecektir.Geliştirilen sistem kuvvetlendirme, filtreleme, analog-dijital dönüştürme ve kablosuz haberleşme olmak üzere dört ana kısımdan oluşmaktadır. Elde edilen cihaz ile bilgisayar arasındaki haberleşme için Bluetooth teknolojisi kullanılmıştır. Cihaz MATLAB yazılımı üzerinden kontrol edilebilmektedir ve doğrudan bilgisayar ortamına aktarılmaktadır. Geliştirilen sistem ile elde edilen yüzey elektromiyografi sinyalleri üzerinde MATLAB programıyla sinyal işleme de yapılmıştır

Early detection of prostate cancer is crucial for the treatment. Currently rectal examination, ultrasound and ELISA test for blood-PSA biomarker level are used for diagnosis. However these methods require professional assistance that makes point-of care (POC) testing impossible. A POC, low-cost, high-precision biosensor can increase the early-detection and survival rates. Recently, we have proposed a low-cost and an easy-to-use surface acoustic wave biosensor that enables the quantification of PSA level. In this study, we focused to the electronic circuitry and signal processing algorithms for accurate protein level assessment using cost efficient and low-profile hardware. Simplifying the hardware will potentially lead to the development of single chip monolithic integrated biosensor. The MEMS based biosensor designed in our studies utilizes shear-horizontal (SH) SAWs on ST-cut Quartz substrate to sense the mass loading change by protein adhesion. The driver circuitry employs signal-processing algorithms to detect the phase change, which quantifies the protein level in the sample dropped on the surface. The signal applied to the sensor input is a 16.9 MHz square wave generated by using a simple counter circuit. The output is under-sampled at an extremely low rate (100 KHz), then, the phase information is extracted using the under-sampled signal. A low-profile microcontroller (mu C) is used to determine the phase shift. The simulated and experimental results are demonstrated, and they agreed well with each other. The results show that, the phase error level is 1% and minimum delay measured is 0.3 ns. Increasing number of samples used for calculation enhances the detection performance. Our studies also showed that using excessive number of samples enables the accurate phase calculation even if a simple 1-bit ADC is employed. (C) 2017 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Sistemimiz işleme başladıktan sonra park aralığının yeterli olup olmadığı konusunda öncelikle bir tarama yapmaktadır. Yeterli park aralığını bulan sistemimiz mükemmel park işlemi için gerekli olan manevraları yapmaktadır. Park etme işleminin simülasyonları Matlab Simulink ortamı kullanılarak yapılmıştır. This Project is presenting a solution to 4-wheel car parking between two points. In this system we need a space for parking as between two car or two poles. Firstly our system verifies whether enough space. After finding a valid parking space, system makes the suitable movements for a perfect parking. This parking operation is tested in a simulation environment using Matlab Simulink. 55

Fiber optik sensörler, elektromanyetik girişime karşı duyarsız olma, küçük boyutluluk, düşük ağırlık, elektriksel olarak pasifolma, sağlamlık ve büyük bant genişliği gibi birçok avantajları nedeniyle son yıllarda artan bir hızla birçok uygulamada geleneksel sensörlerin yerine kullanılmaktadır. Endüstriyel uygulamalarda, fiber optik sensörler sıcaklık, elektromanyetik alan, basınç, pH, sıvı seviyesi ölçümleri, nem, konum, yer değiştirme, gerginlik ve titreşim ölçümlerinde kullanılmaktadır.Fiber optik sensörlerde tek modlu veya çok modlu optik fiberler kullanılmaktadır. Son yıllarda geliştirilen hibrit yapıya sahipüçüncü bir fiber çeşidi ise hetero-özlü optik fiberlerdir. Hetero-özlü optik fiberler, ek yeri birleştirme cihazı (fusion splicer)kullanarak optik fiberin küçük bir kısmı kesilerek, arasına bu optik fiber ile farklı boyutta öz (core) çapına fakat aynı boyutta yelek çapına sahip başka bir fiberin eklenmesi ile oluşturulur. Hetero-özlü optik fiberlerde öz çaplarındaki farklılıktan dolayı fibere dışarıdan bir etki uygulandığında fiberlerin ek yerlerinde ışık kaybı diğer fiberlere göre daha fazla olmaktadır. Böylece hetero-özlü optik fiber kullanarak daha hassas fiber optik sensörler tasarlanabilmektedir. Sanayide sıklıkla tanklardaki yakıt seviyelerininin ölçülmesine ihtiyaç duyulur. In recent years, the use of fiber optic sensors have tremendously increased in many applications instead of conventional sensors due to their advantages such as immunity to electromagnetic interference, small size, light weight, inability to conduct electric current, robustness, and high bandwidth. Fiber optic sensors are used in the measurement of temperature, electromagnetic fields, pressure, pH, liquid level, humidity, position, displacement, strain and vibration.Fiber optic sensors utilize single mode or multimode fibers. In recent years, a new hybrid type hetero-core optical fiber has been developed. The hetero-core fiber is fabricated by inserting a small segment of fiber with a smaller core diameter between two identical fibers with larger core diameters by using fusion splicer. Due to the large difference between the inner and outer core diameters of the optical fibers, more light can leak into the cladding of the hetero-core optical fiber as compared with the other types of optical fibers. Hence, more sensitive fiber optic sensors can be designed by using hetero-core optical fibers.Industry frequently needs to measure fuel levels in tanks such as public-transport systems or service stations and any other large containers which imply exposure to harsh or highly flammable environments, as in the case of petroleum derivatives. Different methods such as mechanical, capacitive, inductive, ultrasonic, acoustic or optical can be implemented. The main disadvantage of this system is that an electrical current must be introduced into the flammable (or simply conducting) liquid. There is a commercial need for a non-electrical fuel-quantity sensor to operate in the hazardous environment of fuel tanks; the sensor should be unaffected by electromagnetic interference and suitable for incorporation in a distributed sensing system. The sensor must be immune to liquid problems such as foaming, boiling, dirtying and agitation. Because of their non-electrical nature, liquid-level sensors utilizing optical fibers are widely required in the chemical industry. Fiber-optic sensor solutions have attractive properties for liquid-level measurements in practice. These applications can be carried out in oil tanks, air fuel tanks, containers, bio-mass boilers in condominiums, flood areas and underground, or even in lead-acid batteries. In this thesis, design of hetero-core surface plasmon resonance (SPR) fiber optic sensors for liquid level detection in fuel tanks is proposed. 85

Bu tez, fartklı sensor konfigürasyonları ile basınç sensörleri tasarlamak için fiber optik sensor sistemi geliştirilmesi konusunda detaylı çalışmalar içermektedir. Deneylerde modların güç dağılımı (MPD) tekniği tabanlı sensörler kullanılmıştır. MPD tekniği, çok modlu fiberlerde mod güçlerinin konumsal modülasyonudur. Bu çalışmada basınç ölçümleri ve CCD kamera tabanlı teknikler incelenmiştir. Geçmişteki MPD çalışmalarından farklı olarak, CCD kameradan alınan bilginin bir kısmının kullanılması yerine tamamının kullanılması amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla, CCD kameradan alınan halka şeklindeki görüntüler polar koordinatlarına dönüştürülmüş, böylece şerit şeklinde görüntüler elde edilmiştir. Bu yeni görüntülerden dört farklı özellik hesaplanmıştır. Hesaplanan özelliklerin ilki polar formdaki ağırlık merkezinin r bileşenidir. Bu özelliğin hesaplanmasın arkasındaki motivasyon, r bileşeninin uygulanan ağırlıkla doğru orantılı olarak azalmasının beklenmesidir. İkinci ve üçüncü özellikler, polar formda, her bir pikselin parlaklığı hesaba katılarak ve katılmadan hesaplanan şerit kalınlığıdır. Deneysel sonuçlar, önerilen sensörün, geçmiş MPD çalışmalarındaki kameradan gelen bilginin yalnızca bir kısmını kullanan sensörlere oranla çok daha hassas olduğunu göstermiştir. Bununla birlikte, sonuçlar dört özellik için de beklendiği gibi çıkmıştır. Sonuçlar ayrıca göstermektedir ki görüntüleri polar forma dönüştürmek, sensörün hassasiyetini ve güvenilirliğini önemli ölçüde arttırmaktadır. This thesis presents detailed study on the development of a fiber optic sensor system to design a pressure sensor with different sensor configurations. The sensor used in the experiments is based on modal power distribution (MPD) technique. MPD technique is spatial modulation of the modal power in multimode fibers. Stress measurements and CCD camera based techniques were investigated in this research. Differently from earlier MPD works, all of the data gathered from CCD camera are used instead of using some part of the data, the ring shaped pictures taken from the CCD camera converted to polar coordinates, and so stripe shaped pictures are obtained. Four different features are calculated from these converted pictures. R component of the center of mass in the polar form is the first feature. It is calculated because it was expected to decrease monotonically with respect to increasing applied pressure. Second and third features are ring thickness in polar form with taking brightness of each pixel into account and ring thickness in polar form without taking brightness of each pixel into account. These features are calculated to analyze the effect of each pixel's brightness. It was expected for these two features that there will not be a big margin between them. Fourth feature is the ratio between third feature and first feature. A MATLAB code is written to correlate these features and applied force to the sensor. Various experiments conducted to analyze this correlation. Pictures are taken from CCD camera with 1 kg, 2 kg and 3 kg steps and from the written MATLAB code, graphics of each feature versus the applied force are generated. Experimental results showed that, the sensitivity of the proposed sensor is much higher than sensors that uses only some part of the collected data in earlier MPD studies. Furthermore, results are almost exactly the same that what was expected for the four proposed features. Results also showed that converting pictures to the polar form increases the sensitivity and reliability. 116

Her geçen gün İnsansız Hava Araçlarının (İHA) profesyonel ve amatör alanlarda kullanımı artıyor. Bu araçların kontrol edilmesi ise kolay olmayan bir problemdir. Duruş tahmini ve kontrolü, görev takibi gibi temel birimlerin her biri fiziksel ve mantıksal kısıtlamaların üstesinden gelmek için gelişmiş yöntemler kullanmak zorundalar. Salt manuel kontrolün mümkün olmadığı bu alanlarda bir Oto-Pilot sistemi bir gereksinimdir.Bu Tez'de yeni bir İnsansız Hava Aracı Oto-Pilot birimi geliştirilmiştir. Bu sistem sensor modeline göre ölçüm verilerindeki hataları düzeltmektedir. Kalman filtresi sensor datası füzyonunda ve ölçümlerdeki gürültüyü kaldırmakta kullanılmıştır. Oto-Pilotsistemlerinin ihtiyaçlarını karşılamak ve hızlı geliştirme imkânı sağlamak için bir yazılım mimarisi de ortaya konmuştur. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) are getting more popular in professional and amateur applications. Controlling these vehicles is not a trivial problem. Where attitude estimation, attitude control and mission tracking are main parts each require advanced techniques to overcome physical and logical constraints. Where raw manual control is not possible it is necessary for UAV systems to have a base Auto-Pilot mechanism.In this thesis we developed an UAV Auto-Pilot system that applies measurement data distortion filtering techniques depending on model of sensor. Kalman filter is used for sensor fusion and measurement data noise. Software architecture is provided to respond quick development of various needs of Auto-Pilot systems. A prototype of device is produced with today's most common sensor and processor devices. The result of the study will be a strong base for future developments. 85

Fiber optik sensörleri sağlık görüntüleme uygulamaları için iyi bir adaydırlar. Boyutları, ağırlığı, elektromanyetik alana karşı duyarsı olmaları gibi özellikleriyle sağlık görüntüleme uygulamalarında çok kullanışlı avantajlara sahiptir. Hetero-özlü optik iki farklı öz yapısındaki fiberin birleşiminden oluşan yeni yapıda fiberlerdir. Hetero-özlü fiber optik sensörler iki mod arasındaki mod birleşiminden dolayı diğer sensörlere göre daha hassastırlar. Bu tezde, medika tekstil içine gömülerek solunum hareketlerini görüntülemek için tasarlanmış sensörler sunulmuştur. Tekstil tabanlı makrobending sensor tasarımını rapor edildi. Bu durumda soluk alıp-verme sırasında karın çevresindeki uzama miktarının ölçülmesi prensibine göre sensörler tasarlanmıştır. Fiber optic sensors are very good candidates for healthcare monitoring. Their size,weight, immunity to electromagnetic interference make them very useful alternatives for healthcare monitoring. The hetero-core optical fibers are novel fiber optic sensors that consists of multimode fibers and a short piece of single-mode fiber, which is inserted between the multimode fibers. Hetero-core fiber optic sensors are more sensitive than other fiber optic sensors because of the mode coupling taking place between the multimode and single-mode fibers. In this thesis, the potential impact of optical fiber sensors embedded into medical textiles for the monitoring of respiratory movements is presented. We report a design, textile based: a macrobending sensor. In this case, the sensing principle is based on the measure of the elongation of the abdominal circumference during breathing movements. 162

Deneysel Kip Çözümleme (DKÇ) yöntemi, veri uyarlamalı doğası sebebiyle doğrusal ve durağan olmayan sinyallerin analizinde etkinliği ile bilinen Hilbert Huang Dönüşümü'nün çekirdeğini teşkil etmekte ve bu tez çalışmasının temelini oluşturmaktadır. Tez çalışmasında, sırasıyla, Hilbert Huang Dönüşümü (HHD) ve DKÇ yöntemi tanıtılmış, DKÇ yönteminin yerel ortalama yaklaşımının ve sınır değerlerinin değiştirilmesiyle daha iyi frekans çözünürlüğü elde edilebileceğini göstermiş olan alternatif algoritma tanıtılmıştır. Deneysel hızlandırılmış yaşlandırma sürecindeki bir elektrik motorundan alınan gerçek titreşim işaretlerinin düşük frekans bölgesindeki öznitelikleri, Fourier dönüşümü orijinal DKÇ ve değiştirilmiş DKÇ yöntemleri ile belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır.Alternatif algoritma, orijinal DKÇ yönteminin anlamlı bir sonuç üretemediği düşük frekans bölgesinde rotor frekans ve ?oil whirl? frekans bileşenlerinin tanımlanmasını sağlamıştır. Genel olarak, DKÇ algoritmasındaki değişikliklerin ana etkilerinin, içsel kip tanımlamada artan frekans çözünürlüğü ve yineleme sayısındaki anlamlı azalma olduğu tespit edilmiştir. The Hilbert Huang Transformation, which is an empirical method currently and known as an efficient method in analysis of non-stationary and non-linear signals due to its data-driven nature, constitutes the basis for this thesis. Within the thesis attributed fundamental concepts of data analysis are briefly mentioned, the original Hilbert Huang Transformation is presented with attribution to various studies, an alternative algorithm, which concerns modifications in the formulation of the local mean approximation and adjustment of boundary values is implemented, frequency resolution capabilities of the original and modified transformations are presented comparatively over analysis of a deterministic signal. Vibration signals acquired from an electric motor, which is subject to an experimental accelerated aging process, are analyzed with the Fourier Transform, the Empirical Mode Decomposition, and the Modified Empirical Mode Decomposition methods, respectively.The major impacts of the proposed modifications in the algorithm are increased resolution in identification of intrinsic frequencies and reduction in number of iterations to identify them, respectively. The presentation of the features in the low frequency region provides proof for the capability developed. Planned future work is stated with justifications in the conclusion part of the thesis. 61

Bu tez çalışması, atardamarlara ait pulsatil fizyolojik kan akış debi sinyallerinin gerçekleştirilmesi, dinamik benzetimle deney sistemine (in vitro) uygun modellenmesi, çeşitli akış kontrol cihazları ve yeni geliştirilen çeşitli kapalı çevrim kontrol teknikleriyle debi sinyalinin kontrol edilmesi, kontrolü gerçekleşen sistemin matematiksel performanslarının ortaya konulmasını amaçlamaktadır. Gerçekleştirilen çalışmanın ürünü olarak yüksek doğrulukta elde edilen kan akış sinyallerinin hemodinamik araştırmalarda kullanılacak olması tez çalışmasının gerçekleştirilmesinde motivasyon kaynağı olmaktadır.Klinik çalışmalarla ölçülen kan akışı debi sinyalleri, zaman-debi karakteristikleri korunarak ve dinamik benzetim yöntemleri kullanılarak, aynı karakteristiğe sahip debi sinyalleri olarak in vitro deney sisteminde elde edilmişlerdir.Deney sisteminde kullanılan akış kontrol cihazları; pnömatik valf, selenoid valf, alternatif akım (Altenative Current, AC) motor ile santrifüj pompa ve servo motor ile dişli pompadan oluşmaktadır.Yüksek performanslı kapalı çevrim kontrol sistemi oluşturmak ve algoritmalardaki performans sonuçlarını açıklayabilmek için akış kontrol cihazlarına kontrol edilebilirlik testleri uygulanmıştır. Kontrol edilebilirlik test çalışmaları için açık çevrim kontrol kullanılmıştır ve giriş sinyali olarak kardiyovasküler sinyaller veya rastgele oluşturulan sinyaller uygulanmıştır. Akış kontrol cihazlarına açık çevrim kontrol ile uygulanan giriş sinyalleri ve sistemin tepkisi olan çıkış sinyalleri analizlerde kullanılmak üzere kaydedilmiştir. Uygulanan testler sonucunda cihazlara ait doğrusal olmayan bölgeler ve histerisiz etkileri ortaya konmuştur. Böylece akış kontrol cihazlarının kapalı çevrim kontrol algoritmalarındaki performansları kontrol edilebilirlik testleri sayesinde açıklanabilir olmaktadır.Başlangıç olarak akış kontrol cihazları sistemde fizyolojik debi sinyalini oluşturmak üzere geleneksel oransal (proportional, P), oransal-integral (proportional-integral, PI) ve oransal-integral-türev (proportional-integral-derivative, PID) kapalı çevrim kontrol teknikleri ile test edilmişlerdir. Literatürde bir ilk olarak, gözlem ile kıyaslama yerine, in vitro sistemde oluşturulan debi sinyali y ile dinamik benzetimle hesaplanan fizyolojik kan akış debi sinyali r arasındaki eşleşme performans indeksi Jn ile matematiksel olarak hesaplanmıştır.Akış kontrol cihazları farklı kontrol teknikleri kullanılarak kumanda edilmiştir. P-?, P-? prediktif, P-? ileri tahminli, doğrusal olmayan model tabanlı ileri beslemeli, ileri beslemeli prediktif, ileri beslemeli ve ileri tahminli kontrol teknikleri akış kontrol cihazlarına uygulanmıştır. Uygulanan sezgisel kontrol yönteminden sonra her bir akış kontrol cihazının fizyolojik kan akış sinyalini elde etmedeki başarısı Jn ile hesaplanmış ve böylece akış kontrol cihazları veya algoritmalarının birbirlerine göre üstünlüklerinin ortaya konması sağlanmıştır.Parametrik tanılama yöntemleri kullanılarak, akış kontrol cihazına bağlı olarak sistemin matematiksel modelleri çıkarılmıştır. Modele dayalı kontrol çalışmalarında; AC motor ile santrifüj pompa ve servo motor ile dişli pompa kullanılmıştır. Akış kontrol cihazlarının matematiksel modelleri gözlemleyici tasarımında kullanılarak kutup atama (pole placement) yöntemi ile modele dayalı kontrolleri gerçekleştirilmiştir.Literatürde bir ilk olarak farklı teknolojilere sahip akış kontrol cihazları ile çeşitli kapalı çevrim kontrol teknikleri kullanılarak fizyolojik kan akış debi sinyalinin kontrolü deneysel sistemde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Literatürde bu alanda gerçekleştirilen çalışmalar içinde yine üstün bir yön olarak matematiksel performans kriteri (Jn) tanımlanmıştır. Yine literatürde bir ilk olarak sistem tanılama çalışmaları gerçekleştirilmiştir. In this thesis, for realization of pulsatile physiologic arterial blood flow control, modelling properly for in vitro with dynamic similarities, controlling various flow control devices with newly proposed closed-loop feedback techniques, representing clearly defined mathematical performance have been intended. As the product of the completed study, blood flow signals were obtained with the high accuracy; it would be thesis motivation source to be used hemodynamic research.In the clinical studies blood signal flows were recorded, preserving time-flow characteristics and using dynamic similarities of signals were obtained with same characteristics in experimental system.In the experimental system flow control devices are consists of pneumatic valve, solenoid valve, AC motor centrifugal pump, servo motor gear pump.In order to build a high performance closed-loop control system and in order to explain the performance of the algorithms, controllability tests are applied to the flow control devices. For controllability test studies open-loop control was used and the input signal is applied as a cardiovascular signals or signals are generated randomly. For use in analysis, input signals which are applied to the flow control devices with open loop control and the output signals which are response of the system were recorded. As a result of the performed tests, hysteresis effects and the non-linear regions of the devices have been out. Thus performance of the flow control devices can be explained due to controllability tests in close-loop control algorithms.At the beginning of study, flow control devices were tested for realization of the physiological blood flow signals with traditional P (proportional), PI (proportional-integral) and PID (proportional-integral-derivative) close-loop control algorithms. In the literature as a first, rather than comparison with the observations, between generated flow signal y in vitro system and desired signal which is calculated dynamic similarities physiological flow r, match performance was calculated as Jn mathematically.Flow control devices have been controlled using different control techniques. P-?, P-? predictive, P-? ileri tahminli, non-linear feed forward control, feed forward predictive control and feed forward look-ahead control techniques have been applied to the flow control devices. Heuristic control method are applied to the flow control devices and each performance of them have been calculated as Jn for physiological blood flow signals and so that which flow control devices or which control algorithms have superiority has been put out.Mathematical model of the system according to flow control devices were calculated by parametric model estimation techniques. Model based control studies; AC motor centrifugal pump and servo motor gear pump have been used. The flow control device?s mathematical models were used to design of observer and model based controls have been performed with pole placement technique.As a first in the literature, flow control devices with various technologies and various close-loop control techniques have been used to control physiological blood flow signals in experimental system. In the literature studies again as a superiority mathematical performance criterion (Jn) has been defined. Again as a first in the literature, system identification studies were performed. System mathematical model are obtained by parametric polynomials and used in model based close-loop control with observer design.After performed heuristic close-loop control studies most successful result was obtained by selenoid valve in the model based feed forward predictive control. On the other hand most successful results in the model based control study was achieved by sevo motor gear pump. 172

Bu çalışmanın amacı; hipertansiyon hastaları için retina görüntülerinden atardamar daralmasını kullanarak otomatik tanı algoritmasının geliştirilmesidir. Hipertansiyon gibi bazı kardiovasküler hastalıklar kan damarları üzerinde değişikliklere sebep olmaktadır ve bu değişiklikler gözde çok iyi bir şekilde gözlenebilmektedir. Hipertansiyonun göz üzerinde etkisi hipertansif retinopeti olarak bilinmekte ve bunun en önemli belirtisi de atardamar daralmasıdır. Çalışmada retina görüntülerinde atardamar daralması değerininden hipertansif retinopeti hastalarının sınıflandırılması yapılmıştır. Çalışmada bazı görüntü işleme teknikleri kullanılmıştır. The purpose of this study is development of an automated detection algorithm for the hypertensive patients by using their artery narrowing value on retina images. Blood vessels are affected by cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, and these effects can be seen very clearly in the retina. The hypertension effect on the retina is known as hypertensive retinopathy and the main sign of the hypertension is artery narrowing in the retina. In this thesis, the artery narrowing values has been determined on fundus image for the hypertensive patients, and hypertensive retinopathy patients have been classified. Image processing techniques have been used in this study. 106

Gelişen fiber optik sensörler birçok sensörün bir araya gelerek oluşturduğu akıllı yapı adı verilen yeni bir sistemi ortaya çıkarmıştır. Akıllı yapı teknolojisi gelişmiş optik sinirlere ihtiyaç duyar. Bunlar fiber optik sensörlerdir.Fiber optik sensörler optik fiber boyunca yayılan ışıktaki değişimler aracılığı ile geniş bir alandaki etkileri ölçmek için kullanılırlar.Bu yüzden bu tür sensörler genellikle betonarme yapılardan oluşan köprü ve binalarda kullanılır. Fiber optics provide high data transfer rates due to large bandwidth. Fiber optic sensors are proportionally improved by means of optoelectronics industry. Fiber optic sensors provide a system composed of distributed sensors in smart structures. The smart structure technology requires the development of materials with self optical nerves. These nerves are fiber sensors.Fiber optic sensors can be constructed to measure a wide range of effects by means of changes in light beams that are propagating through the optical fibers. Thus, they are mostly used in re-inforced concrete structures such as bridges and buildings. Important parameters for infrastructure applications that may be possibly measured include longitudinal and transverse strain, pressure, temperature, and corrosion.In this thesis, fiber optic microbend sensors are studied. The theory of basics of fiber optics, types of fiber optic sensors, mode coupling and periodicity are described. The optical intensity is measured as function of both force and displacement applied to the microbend deformer sets. The usefulness of sensor is investigated and the long term deformation on sensor is observed. 89

Böylece, arastırmacılar fiber optik telekomünikasyonürünlerindeki gelismeleri optoelektronik teçhizatlarla birlestirerek fiber optik sensörleriolusturmuslardır. Son on yıllık zaman diliminde farklı teknikler kullanılarak fiber optiksensörler hakkında birçok arastırmalar yapılmıstır.Bu tez akıllı yapı durum gözlemleri için fiber optik sensör sistemi ve görüntü islemeteknikleri gelistirmesine yönelik detaylı bir çalısma sunmaktadır. Deneylerde kullanılansensör modların güç dağılımı tekniğine dayanmaktadır. Modların güç dağılımı, modlarıngücünün çok modlu fiberde uzaysal siddet dağılımıdır. Bu arastırmada stres ve gerginlikölçümleri ile birlikte güç ölçer ve CCD kameraya dayalı ölçümlerin karsılastırılmasıarastırılmıstır.Sonuçta, akıllı yapıların durum gözlemlerinde kullanılabilecek basit ve fiyat maliyetidüsük bir sensör konfigürasyonu önerilmistir. The health monitoring of smart structures is becoming more and more important as insitustructural monitoring would reduce structure life-cycle costs and improve reliability.Fiber optic sensors provide an excellent opportunity to fulfill structural monitoring. Manyadvantages over conventional sensors such as size, weight, immunity to electromagneticinterference and the ability to integrate the sensor into a material structure play a major rolefor widely use of fiber optical sensors in structural monitoring.Beside advantages; recent advances, and cost reductions has stimulated interest in fiberoptical sensing. So, researchers combined the product outgrowths of fiber optictelecommunications with optoelectronic devices to emerge fiber optic sensors. Numerousresearches have been conducted in past decades using fiber optic sensors with differenttechniques. Intensity, phase, and wavelength based fiber optic sensors are the most widelyused sensor types. This thesis presents detailed study on the development of a fiber opticsensor system and an image processing technique for health monitoring of smart structures.The sensor used in the experiments is based on modal power distribution (MPD) technique.MPD technique is spatial modulation of the modal power in multimode fibers. Stress andstrain measurements and comparison of CCD camera and power-meter measurements basedtechniques were investigated in this research.In addition, a simple and a cost effective miniature fiber optic sensor configuration touse in health monitoring of smart structures was proposed. Furthermore, it was proven thatpower-meter measurements can be estimated using CCD camera images. 92

The purpose of this study can be summarized as rotation estimation algorithms. The algorithmsare implemented to estimate the rotation angle of continuously rotating andtranslating fabrics which is useful for textile industry, especially for automatic weftstraighteningsystems. The methods studied are mainly based on FFT and Autocorrelationcomputations. Son yıllarda, Akıllı kameralar medikal uygulamalar, trafik izleme ve endüstriyel uygulamalar gibi bir çok alanda önemli rol oynamaya başladı. Literatürde sunulan bir kaç akıllı kamera mimarisi bulunmaktadır, ancak bu uygulamada biz FU-SmartCam diye adlandırılan kendi mimarimizi dizayn ettik.Bu tez FU-SmartCam (Fatih Üniversitesi Akıllı Kamera) mimarisi ve endüstrideki uygulaması üzerinedir. Atkı düzeltme makinası için kumaştaki dönmeyi hesaplayan uygulama gerçekleştirilmiştir.Kumaş resmindeki dönme açısının hesaplanması için iki metot önerildi. FFT ve statiksel özelliklere dayanan iki yöntemin avantaj ve dezavantajları tartışıldı ve örnekler ile gösterildi. Dönme açısının hesaplanmasında ve deney sonuçlarının karşılaştırılmasında Matlab programı kullanıldı. Ayrıca FFT metoduna dayalı yöntem C programlama dili ile yazıldı ve Akıllı Kamera üzerinde test edildi. In the last few decades, smart cameras started to play a very important role in many applications, such as medical applications, traffic surveillance systems and industrial applications. There are several smart camera architectures reported in the literature. However, in this study, we designed our own smart camera architecture and named it as ?FU-SmartCam?.This thesis is about the FU-Smart Camera (Fatih University Smart Camera) architecture and its application to an industrial problem. Rotation estimation for the weft-straightening machines is implemented.Two different methods are proposed for rotation estimation. The first method is based on FFT computation and the second one is based on statistical feature extraction. The advantages and disadvantages of both approaches are discussed and illustrated via examples. Matlab programs are used to compare the results of rotation estimation algorithms. FFT based algorithms also implemented in C and deployed on the Smart Camera. 125

Telerobotik insanın bilgiye ve idrake dayalı becerileri ile robotun uzmanlaşmışçalışma yeteneklerini birleştirerek insanların ağ üzerinden kullanma kaabiliyetini genişletenbir sistemdir. Robotun LAN üzerinden var olan zaman gecikmeleri ve veri kayıplarınarağmen verimli kontrolu dinamik araştırma alanlarındandır. Bu çalışmada Mitsubishi RV-2AJrobotun LAN üzerinden güvenli bir şekilde kullanımı amaçlanmaktadır. Bu amacıgerçekleştirmek için de; client ve server bileşenleri arasında gerçek zamanlı bir etkileşim içinmultithread yapılı bir ortam oluşturulması, tamamen dağıtılmış telerobotik yapısı .NETtechnolojisi kullanılarak geliştirilmiştir. The purpose of this work is to implement a reliable teleoperation ofMitsubishi RV-2AJ robot over a LAN. In order to pursue this goal, a completely distributedtelerobotic framework is developed using .NET Remoting technology to providemultithreaded environment for real-time interaction between client and server sidecomponents.
