Piaget and Vygotsky have different opinions regarding the concept of scaffolding in education. Piaget assumes that learners can acquire skills in ZPD when they are aided by their peers in the same level of knowledge. However, Vygotsky advocates asymmetrical scaffolding in which learners are assisted by teachers or more knowledgeable peers. Willingness to communicate (WTC) as a necessary psychological mechanism affecting EFL education has attracted researchers’ attention for decades. This experimental study explores the comparative impact of Piagetian symmetrical and Vygotskyan asymmetrical scaffolding on EFL learners' WTC. 77 intermediate EFL learners were selected based on the results of piloted OPT and were randomly assigned to two groups of 35 and 42 intermediate EFL learners. In one group, symmetrical scaffolding (Peers' assistance) was employed, and in the other, asymmetrical scaffolding (teachers' assistance) was implemented as the treatment. The data analyses revealed that learners’ WTC improved significantly through Vygotskyan asymmetrical scaffolding that advocated the significance of the assistance learners receive from the teachers or more competent peers. The findings of this study embrace pedagogical and theoretical implications for EFL curriculum planners, practitioners, teachers, learners, and material developers.

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become a global pandemic, and its incidence is increasing year by year. At present, there are no definite curative drugs for the treatment of NAFLD in modern medicine. Surprisingly, complementary and alternative therapies play an important role and have special advantages. In this study, we will adopt Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA) to evaluate the efficiency and safety of complementary therapy and alternative therapies for NAFLD. Methods: We will collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) related to the treatment of NAFLD in PubMed, Cochrane Library, CNKI, and other databases. Two reviewers will screen the literature and extract data in line with the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and then assess the risk of bias according to Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool. The Bayesian NMA will be performed by Stata16.0 and WinBUGS1.4.3. Results: Our study will compare and rank the efficacy and safety of diverse complementary and alternative therapies for NAFLD. Conclusion: This study can provide credible evidence for the efficacy and safety of complementary therapies and alternative therapies in the treatment of NAFLD. We expect to assist clinicians and patients to choose the optimal therapeutic regimen. Protocol registration number: INPLASY2020120136.

In this study, we firstly reported the large-scale screening and isolation of endophytic fungi from nine wild and six cultivated soybeans in the cold regions of China. We totally isolated 302 endophytic fungal strains, of which 215 strains are isolated from the wild soybeans and 87 are identified from cultivated soybeans. Among these endophytic fungal strains, in the roots, stems, and leaves, 24.17% were isolated from roots, 28.8% were isolated from stems, and 47.01% were isolated from leaves, respectively. Most endophytic fungal strains isolated from the wild soybean roots were the species of Fusarium genus, and the fungal strains in the stems were the species of ascomycetes and Fusarium fungi, whereas most strains in the leaves were Alternaria fungi. To analyze the taxonomy of the obtained samples, we sequenced and compared their rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences. The data showed that 6 strains are putatively novel strains exhibiting ≤ 97% homology with the known strains. We next measured the secondary metabolites produced by the different strains and we found 11 strains exhibited high-performance synthesis of triterpenoids, phenols, and polysaccharides. Furthermore, we characterized their tolerance to abiotic stresses. The results indicated that 4 strains exhibited high tolerance to cadmium, and some strains exhibited resistance to acid, and alkali. The results of the study could facilitate the further exploration of the diversity of plant endophytic fungi and the potential applications of the fungi to practical agriculture and medicine industries. A novel Gram-positive, rod-shaped, motile, spore-forming, nitrogen-fixing bacterium, designated strain 112(T), was isolated from cabbage rhizosphere in Beijing, China. The strain was found to grow at 10-40 °C and pH 4-11, with an optimum of 30 °C and pH 7.0, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis based on a fragment of the full-length 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that strain 112(T) is a member of the genus Paenibacillus. High levels of 16S rRNA gene similarities were found between strain 112(T), Paenibacillus sabinae DSM 17841(T) (97.82 %) and Paenibacillus forsythiae DSM 17842(T) (97.22 %). However, the DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain 112(T) and the type strains of these two species were 10.36 and 6.28 %, respectively. The predominant menaquinone was found to be menaquinone 7 (MK-7). The major fatty acids were determined to be anteiso-C(15:0) and C(16:0). The major polar lipids were found to be diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and unknown aminophospholipids. The cell wall peptidoglycan was found to contain meso-diaminopimelic acid. The DNA G+C content was determined to be 55.4 mol%. On the basis of its phenotypic characteristics, 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis and the value of DNA-DNA hybridization, strain 112(T) is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Paenibacillus, for which the name Paenibacillus brassicae sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 112(T) (= ACCC 01125(T) = DSM 24983(T)).
