The minimum covariance determinant (MCD) estimator is ubiquitous in multivariate analysis, the critical step of which is to select a subset of a given size with the lowest sample covariance determinant. The concentration step (C-step) is a common tool for subset-seeking; however, it becomes computationally demanding for high-dimensional data. To alleviate the challenge, we propose a depth-based algorithm, termed as \texttt{FDB}, which replaces the optimal subset with the trimmed region induced by statistical depth. We show that the depth-based region is consistent with the MCD-based subset under a specific class of depth notions, for instance, the projection depth. With the two suggested depths, the \texttt{FDB} estimator is not only computationally more efficient but also reaches the same level of robustness as the MCD estimator. Extensive simulation studies are conducted to assess the empirical performance of our estimators. We also validate the computational efficiency and robustness of our estimators under several typical tasks such as principal component analysis, linear discriminant analysis, image denoise and outlier detection on real-life datasets. In the era of big data, data sharing not only boosts the economy of the world but also brings about problems of privacy disclosure and copyright infringement. The collected data may contain users’ sensitive information; thus, privacy protection should be applied to the data prior to them being shared. Moreover, the shared data may be re-shared to third parties without the consent or awareness of the original data providers. Therefore, there is an urgent need for copyright tracking. There are few works satisfying the requirements of both privacy protection and copyright tracking. The main challenge is how to protect the shared data and realize copyright tracking while not undermining the utility of the data. In this article, we propose a novel solution of a reversible database watermarking scheme based on order-preserving encryption. First, we encrypt the data using order-preserving encryption and adjust an encryption parameter within an appropriate interval to generate a ciphertext with redundant space. Then, we leverage the redundant space to embed robust reversible watermarking. We adopt grouping and K-means to improve the embedding capacity and the robustness of the watermark. Formal theoretical analysis proves that the proposed scheme guarantees correctness and security. Results of extensive experiments show that OPEW has 100% data utility, and the robustness and efficiency of OPEW are better than existing works.

Extramedullary infiltration (EMI) is a concomitant manifestation that may indicate poor outcome of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The underlying mechanism remains poorly understood and therapeutic options are limited. Here, we employed single-cell RNA sequencing on bone marrow (BM) and EMI samples from a patient with AML presenting pervasive leukemia cutis. A complement C1Q+ macrophage-like leukemia subset, which was enriched within cutis and existed in BM before EMI manifestations, was identified and further verified in multiple patients with AML. Genomic and transcriptional profiling disclosed mutation and gene expression signatures of patients with EMI that expressed high levels of C1Q. RNA sequencing and quantitative proteomic analysis revealed expression dynamics of C1Q from primary to relapse. Univariate and multivariate analysis demonstrated adverse prognosis significance of C1Q expression. Mechanistically, C1Q expression, which was modulated by transcription factor MAF BZIP transcription factor B, endowed leukemia cells with tissue infiltration ability, which could establish prominent cutaneous or gastrointestinal EMI nodules in patient-derived xenograft and cell line–derived xenograft models. Fibroblasts attracted migration of the C1Q+ leukemia cells through C1Q–globular C1Q receptor recognition and subsequent stimulation of transforming growth factor β1. This cell-to-cell communication also contributed to survival of C1Q+ leukemia cells under chemotherapy stress. Thus, C1Q served as a marker for AML with adverse prognosis, orchestrating cancer infiltration pathways through communicating with fibroblasts and represents a compelling therapeutic target for EMI.

In this study, cost-effective anthracite and industrial silicon powder were used as precursor and catalyst, respectively, to prepare graphite with various structure, during which the catalytic mechanism was analyzed. The results demonstrate that the as-obtained sample with 5% silicon catalyst (G-2800-5%) exhibits the best overall lithium storage performance. In detail, G-2800-5% display the best graphite structure with graphitization degree of 91.5%. As anode materials, a high reversible capacity of 369.0 mAh g−1 can be achieved at 0.1 A g−1. Meanwhile, the reversible capacity of 209.0 mAh g−1 can be obtained at the current density of 1 A g−1. It also delivers good cyclic stability with a 92.2% retention after 200 cycles at 0.2 A g−1. The highly developed graphite structure, which is favorable to the formation of stable SEI and reduced lithium ion loss should be responsible for the superior electrochemical performance.

Offspring conceived by assisted reproductive technologies (ART) have increased risk of suffering from gestational complications, and placental dysfunction is related with the adverse outcomes. Studies have revealed that abnormal or adaptive changes can occur in ART placentas, but the potential reasons are not fully understood. Hereby, we tried to use proteomics and phospho-proteomics to find the underlying mechanisms responsible for the changes of ART placentas. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was utilized to perform proteome and phospho-proteome detection on mouse placentas. The differential expressed proteins (DEPs) or phospho-proteins (DEPPs) were analyzed based on subcellular localization, functional classification, and enrichment. Western blot was used to verify the DEPs (Afadin, ZO-1, Ace2, Agt, Slc7a5, and Slc38a10) and measure mTOR signaling activities (mTOR, Rps6, and 4Ebp1). The data showed that 161 DEPs and 304 DEPPs were found in proteome and phospho-proteome, respectively. Multiple biological processes were enriched based on those DEPs and DEPPs, and renin-angiotensin system, cell junction, and PI3K-Akt pathway were investigated. By protein expression identification, two key proteins associated with renin-angiotensin system (Ace2 and Agt) were down-regulated, and the levels of Afadin and ZO-1 (related with cell junction) as well as Slc38a10 were increased in IVF placentas. In addition, mTOR downstream activities were increased as shown by p-Rps6 and p-4Ebp1 in IVF placentas. In conclusion, IVF leads to the changes of cell junction, renin-angiotensin system, amino acid transport, and increased mTOR signaling in mouse placentas, which may be associated with the altered structure and function of IVF placentas.

We assessed mortality risk factors and multidrug-resistant (MDR) gram-negative BSI predictors.Patients and Methods: We conducted a retrospective study from January 2015 to December 2021, which included adult neutropenic oncohematological patients with confirmed BSIs. We used univariable and multivariable analyses to analyze the risk factors. Each index’s reliability for bacterial BSI diagnosis was assessed using the receiver-operating characteristic curve and area under the curve.Results: A total of 514 isolates were obtained from the 452 patients. The average mortality was 17.71%. Gram-negative organisms were the predominant causes of BSI. Escherichia coli was the most common microorganism (49.90%). The overall variation trend of the isolation rate of MDR and carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacteria increased. Multivariate analysis indicated that: 1) neutropenia that lasted for more than 7 days, patients ≥ 60 years of age, septic shock, hospitalization for > 20 days, BSI with a carbapenem-resistant strain, and treatment with linezolid or vancomycin in infections lasting less than 30 days were independent mortality risk factors; 2) severe neutropenia exceeding 7 days, unreasonable empirical therapy, and receipt of aminoglycosides or 3rd or 4th generation cephalosporins in infections lasting less than 30 days were independent risk factors of MDR gram-negative bacteria. Procalcitonin, absolute neutrophil count, and white blood cell indicate higher diagnostic accuracy for BSIs. Moreover, bacteria time to detection was better at differentiating Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial infections.Conclusion: We analyzed the risk factors for BSI neutropenic patients with hematological malignancies, the distribution of bacteria, antibiotic resistance, and the changes in clinical parameters. This single-center retrospective study may provide clinicians with novel insights into the diagnosis and treatment of BSI to improve future clinical outcomes.Keywords: bloodstream infection, neutropenia, hematological malignancy, pathogens distribution, antibiotic susceptibility, risk factors

This study explored the molecular mechanism of the plasma activation medium (PAM) inhibiting the migration ability of NSCLC (non-small cell lung cancer) cells. The effect of PAM incubation on the cell viability of NSCLC was detected through a cell viability experiment. Transwell cells and microfluidic chips were used to investigate the effects of PAM on the migration capacity of NSCLC cells, and the latter was used for the first time to observe the changes in the migration capacity of cancer cells treated with PAM. Moreover, the molecular mechanisms of PAM affecting the migration ability of NSCLC cells were investigated through intracellular and extracellular ROS detection, mitochondrial membrane potential, and Western blot experiments. The results showed that after long-term treatment with PAM, the high level of ROS produced by PAM reduced the level of the mitochondrial membrane potential of cells and blocked the cell division cycle in the G2/M phase. At the same time, the EMT process was reversed by inhibiting the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. These results suggested that the high ROS levels generated by the PAM treatment reversed the EMT process by inhibiting the WNT/β-catenin pathway in NSCLC cells and thus inhibited the migration of NSCLC cells. Therefore, these results provide good theoretical support for the clinical treatment of NSCLC with PAM.

Information relating to errors in evapotranspiration (ET) products, including satellite-derived ET products, is critical to their application but often challenging to obtain, with a limited number of flux towers available for the sufficient validation of measurements. Triple collocation (TC) methods can assess the inherent uncertainties of the above ET products using just three independent variables as a triplet input. However, both the severity with which the variables in the triplet violate the assumptions of zero error correlations and the corresponding impact on the error estimation are unknown. This study proposed a cross-correlation analysis approach to discover the optimal triplet of satellite-derived ET products with regard to providing the most reliable error estimation. All possible triple collocation solutions for the same product were first evaluated by the extended triple collocation (ETC), among which the optimum was selected based on the correlation between ETC-based and in-situ-based error metrics, and correspondingly, a statistic experiment based on ranked triplets demonstrated how the optimal triplet was valid for all pixels of the product. Six popular products (MOD16, PML_V2, GLASS, SSEBop, ERA5, and GLEAM) that were produced between 2003 to 2018 and which cover China’s mainland were chosen for the experiment, in which the error estimates were compared with measurements from 23 in-situ flux towers. The findings suggest that (1) there exists an optimal triplet in which a product as an input of TC with other collocating inputs together violate TC assumptions the least; (2) the error characteristics of the six ET products varied significantly across China, with GLASS performing the best (median error: 0.1 mm/day), followed by GLEAM, ERA5, and MOD16 (median errors below 0.2 mm/day), while PML_V2 and SSEBop had slightly higher median errors (0.24 mm/day and 0.27 mm/day, respectively); and (3) removing seasonal variations in ET signals has a substantial impact on enhancing the accuracy of error estimations.

In this paper, we propose a joint generative and contrastive representation learning method (GeCo) for anomalous sound detection (ASD). GeCo exploits a Predictive AutoEncoder (PAE) equipped with self-attention as a generative model to perform frame-level prediction. The output of the PAE together with original normal samples, are used for supervised contrastive representative learning in a multi-task framework. Besides cross-entropy loss between classes, contrastive loss is used to separate PAE output and original samples within each class. GeCo aims to better capture context information among frames, thanks to the self-attention mechanism for PAE model. Furthermore, GeCo combines generative and contrastive learning from which we aim to yield more effective and informative representations, compared to existing methods. To study the relationship between genetic variants and phenotypes, association testing is adopted; however, most association studies are conducted by genotype-based testing. Testing methods based on next-generation sequencing (NGS) data without genotype calling demonstrate an advantage over testing methods based on genotypes in the scenarios when genotype estimation is not accurate. Our objective was to develop NGS data-based methods for association studies to fill the gap in the literature. Single-variant testing methods based on NGS data have been proposed, including our previously proposed single-variant NGS data-based testing method, i.e., UNC combo method. The NGS data-based group testing method has been proposed by us using a linear model framework which can handle continuous responses. In this paper, we extend our linear model-based framework to a generalized linear model-based framework so that the methods can handle other types of responses especially binary responses which is a common problem in association studies. To evaluate the performance of various estimators and compare them we performed simulation studies. We found that all methods have Type I errors controlled, and our NGS data-based methods have better performance than genotype-based methods for other types of responses, including binary responses (logistics regression) and count responses (Poisson regression), especially when sequencing depth is low. We have extended our previous linear model (LM) framework to a generalized linear model (GLM) framework and derived NGS data-based methods for a group of genetic variables. Compared with our previously proposed LM-based methods, the new GLM-based methods can handle more complex responses (for example, binary responses and count responses) in addition to continuous responses. Our methods have filled the literature gap and shown advantage over their corresponding genotype-based methods in the literature.

Few multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) research on Google Research Football (GRF) focus on the 11v11 multi-agent full-game scenario and to the best of our knowledge, no open benchmark on this scenario has been released to the public. In this work, we fill the gap by providing a population-based MARL training pipeline and hyperparameter settings on multi-agent football scenario that outperforms the bot with difficulty 1.0 from scratch within 2 million steps. Our experiments serve as a reference for the expected performance of Independent Proximal Policy Optimization (IPPO), a state-of-the-art multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithm where each agent tries to maximize its own policy independently across various training configurations. Meanwhile, we open-source our training framework Light-MALib which extends the MALib codebase by distributed and asynchronized implementation with additional analytical tools for football games. Finally, we provide guidance for building strong football AI with population-based training and release diverse pretrained policies for benchmarking. The goal is to provide the community with a head start for whoever experiment their works on GRF and a simple-to-use population-based training framework for further improving their agents through self-play. Introduction: Fu-Fang-Jin-Qian-Cao is a Chinese herbal preparation used to treat urinary calculi. Fu-Fang-Jin-Qian-Cao can protect renal tubular epithelial cells from calcium oxalate-induced renal injury by inhibiting ROS-mediated autopathy. The mechanism still needs further exploration. Metabonomics is a new subject; the combination of metabolomics and network pharmacology can find pathways for drugs to act on targets more efficiently Methods: Comprehensive metabolomics and network pharmacology to study the mechanism of Fu-Fang-Jin-Qian-Cao inhibiting autophagy in calcium oxalate-induced renal injury. Based on UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS, combined with biochemical analysis, a mice model of Calcium oxalate-induced renal injury was established to study the therapeutic effect of Fu-Fang-Jin-Qian-Cao. Based on the network pharmacology, the target signaling pathway and the protective effect of Fu-Fang-Jin-Qian-Cao on Calcium oxalate-induced renal injury by inhibiting autophagy were explored. Autophagy-related proteins LC3-II, BECN1, ATG5, and ATG7 were studied by immunohistochemistry. Results: Combining network pharmacology and metabolomics, 50 differential metabolites and 2482 targets related to these metabolites were found. Subsequently, the targets enriched in PI3K-Akt, MAPK and Ras signaling pathways. LC3-II, BECN1, ATG5 and ATG7 were up-regulated in Calcium oxalate-induced renal injury. All of them could be reversed after the Fu-Fang-Jin-Qian-Cao treatment. Conclusions: Fu-Fang-Jin-Qian-Cao can reverse ROS-induced activation of the MAPK signaling pathway and inhibition of the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, thereby reducing autophagy damage of renal tubular epithelial cells in Calcium oxalate-induced renal injury.

The resistance rates of E. coli and KP to 3rd or 4th generation cephalosporins were 51.7% and 22.1%, to carbapenems was 1.7% and 3.9%, to quinolones was 55.9% in Shanxi. The generation of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) is a major mechanism resulting in drug resistance in Enterobacterales. To determine the mortality risk factors of multi-drug resistant Enterobacterales (MDRE) and multi-drug resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (MDR-KP) infection.Methods: 91 MDR strains from 91 patients were collected from 2015 to 2019 in the second hospital of Shanxi Medical University. The mortality risk factors for the MDRE infections and clinical outcomes were analyzed by univariable and multivariable analysis. The independent predictors of 30-day mortality were analyzed through the Cox regression analysis including the variables with a value < 0.2.Results: The majority of patients were admitted to ICUs. Pulmonary infection was a major infection (43.96%, 40/91). Thirty-three (36.26%, 33/91) strains of MDR-KP were only detected in 2018. The proportion of multi-drug resistant Escherichia coli (MDR E. coli) and multi-drug resistant Enterobacter cloacae (MDR ecl) were 16.48% (15/91) and 17.58% (16/91), respectively. The presence of cerebrovascular diseases (OR, 4.046; 95%Cl, 1.434– 11.418; P=0.008) and central venous catheterization (OR, 4.543; 95%Cl, 1.338– 15.425; P=0.015) were associated with mortality in patients with MDRE infections. Endotracheal intubation (OR, 4.654; 95%Cl, 1.5– 14.438; P=0.008) was an independent mortality risk factor for patients infected with MDR-KP strains. Patients who received aminoglycoside antibiotics (P=0.057) had a higher 30-day survival rate. The β-lactam antibiotics were the major agent in the clinic.Conclusion: This study implies that patients with cerebrovascular diseases, central venous catheterization, and endotracheal intubation are at risk of carrying MDR isolates.Keywords: multi-drug resistance, Enterobacterales, carbapenem-resistant, risk factors

Fatigue cracks caused by repetitive loads are one of the major threats to the structural integrity of civil infrastructure. Human inspection is the most common method for detecting fatigue cracks, but it is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and unreliable. In this paper, we propose a new vision-based fatigue crack detection and localization method that can detect the fatigue crack with marker-free and high precision using a consumer-grade digital camera. A motion tracking technology called optical flow algorithm is applied to the video for tracking the surface motion of the monitored structure under repetitive load. Then, a crack detection and localization algorithm based on optical flow information entropy are developed to search differential features at different video frames caused by the crack opening and closing. The proposed method’s precision is first validated by doing two experiments and then comparing its precision and efficiency to the existing crack detection methods, including image processing and digital image correlation. The results show that, when compared to the existing vision-based methods, the proposed method can accurately and efficiently identify the fatigue crack even when the crack is surrounded by other crack-like edges, covered by complex surface textures, or invisible to human eyes. In addition, based on the proposed methods, a practical application for calculating the stress intensity factor is given to track crack development.

In order to overcome the defect that sparrow search algorithm converges very fast but is easy to fall into the trap of local optimization, based on the original mechanism of sparrow algorithm, this paper proposes game predatory mechanism and suicide mechanism, which makes sparrow algorithm more in line with its biological characteristics and enhances the ability of the algorithm to get rid of the attraction of local optimization while retaining the advantages of fast convergence speed. By initializing the population with the good point set strategy, the quality of the initial population is guaranteed and the diversity of the population is enhanced. In view of the current situation that the diversity index evaluation does not consider the invalid search caused by individuals beyond the boundary in the search process, an index to measure the invalid search beyond the boundary in the search process is proposed, and the measurement of diversity index is further improved to make it more accurate. The improved algorithm is tested on six basic functions and CEC2017 test function to verify its effectiveness. Finally, the improved algorithm is applied to the three-dimensional path planning of UAV with threat area. The results show that the improved algorithm has stronger optimization performance, has strong competitiveness compared with other algorithms, and can quickly plan the effective and stable path of UAV, which improves an effective method for the application in this field and other fields.

IntroductionWorking memory (WM) is a well-known fundamental ability related to various high-level cognitive functions, such as executive functioning, decision-making, and problem-solving. Although previous studies have posited that chronic exercise may improve cognitive functions, its underlying neural mechanisms and whether habitual exercise is associated with individual WM ability remain unclear.MethodsIn the current study, 36 participants reported their habitual physical activity through the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). In addition to assessments of intelligence quotient (IQ), WM storage capacity (K score), and visuomotor coordination capacity, electroencephalogram (EEG) signals were recorded while the participants performed a WM precision task fusing conventional visual and motor retrospective cue (retro-cue) WM tasks.ResultsWe found that greater amounts of and higher frequencies of vigorous-intensity exercise were highly correlated with smaller recall errors in the WM precision task. Contralateral delay activity (CDA), a well-known WM-related event-related potential (ERP) component evoked by the valid retro-cue, predicted individual behavioral recall error. Participants who met the medium or high level of IPAQ criteria (the regular exercise group) showed smaller behavioral recall error and larger CDA than participants who did not meet the criteria (the irregular exercise group). The two groups did not differ in other assessments, such as IQ, WM storage capacity, and visuomotor coordination ability.DiscussionHabitual exercise was specifically correlated with individual differences in WM precision, rather than IQ, WM storage capacity, and visuomotor coordination ability, suggesting potential mechanisms of how modulations of chronic exercise improve cognition through visual and/or motor WM precision.

Sequencing-based genetic association analysis is typically performed by first generating genotype calls from sequence data and then performing association tests on the called genotypes. Standard approaches require accurate genotype calling (GC), which can be achieved either with high sequencing depth (typically available in a small number of individuals) or via computationally intensive multi-sample linkage disequilibrium (LD)-aware methods. We propose a computationally efficient two-stage combination approach for association analysis, in which single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are screened in the first stage via a rapid maximum likelihood (ML)-based method on sequence data directly (without first calling genotypes), and then the selected SNPs are evaluated in the second stage by performing association tests on genotypes from multi-sample LD-aware calling. Extensive simulation- and real data-based studies show that the proposed two-stage approaches can save 80% of the computational costs and still obtain more than 90% of the power of the classical method to genotype all markers at various depths d≥2.

Emerging preclinical data suggest that glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP1RA) possesses cardioprotective properties against the pathophysiology of hypertension (HT). We sought to unravel the potential therapeutic application of GLP1RA in a clinically relevant large animal model of hypertensive cardiomyopathy (hCMP). A combination of angiotensin II (Ang II) and deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA) pellets were used to induce sustained HT status and establish hCMP in porcine model. Changes in cardiac echocardiography, invasive hemodynamic parameters, neurohumoral biomarkers and inflammation-related cytokines were investigated in 23 adult pigs, among which 6 were serving as control, 9 were induced with HT, and the remaining 8 were HT-induced with GLP1RA treatment. Eight weeks after the study initiated, HT pigs have developed sustained high blood pressure (BP) at both systole and diastole. Phenotype of hCMP has also become significant as impairment in systolic/diastolic function, left ventricular remodeling and cardiac hypertrophy was determined by echocardiogram and invasive hemodynamics. Additionally, blood norepinephrine (NE) content, venoarterial NE gradient and pro-inflammatory cytokines in HT pigs were increased. GLP1RA treatment halted the elevation in BP, left ventricular remodeling and cardiac hypertrophy development; preserved the left ventricular systolic/diastolic function; reduced the venoarterial NE gradient as well as the pro-inflammatory cytokines at 18 weeks in pigs with hCMP. Our results demonstrate that GLP1RA treatment has a remarkable effect on BP decrease, inflammation suppression and left ventricular function improvement. Thus, we provide novel insight into the therapeutic potential of GLP1RA in HT-induced heart failure in a large animal model of hCMP.

An upflow column reactor packed with nonwoven fabric carrier was used to enrich anaerobic ammonium oxidation (Anammox) sludge. After 101 days, the reactor Anammox sludge concentration increased from 470 to 3,118 mg·L−1. In the stable operating stage, the average total nitrogen (TN) volume loading rate was 818.3 mg·L−1, and the maximum removal efficiencies of NH4+-N, NO2−-N and TN were 65.9, 81.2 and 63.8%, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that the cultivated sludge was dominated by a mix of short rod-shaped and spherical bacteria, which accumulated to the typical cauliflower-like aggregates assumed to be the Anammox culture. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis using 16S rRNA showed that the dominant population developed in the reactor when hybridized with both PLA46 and Amx820 gene probes. This indicates that the cultivated biomass may comprise Planctomycetes bacteria. The results of real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) showed that these bacteria formed 45 to 60% of the total bacteria in the Anammox sludge. The study demonstrated successful detection and enrichment of Anammox bacteria in wastewater.

To evaluate whether small farmers are willing to accept the policy of sustainable use of cultivated land such as green manure planting, we analyze the payment preference and the source of heterogeneity of small farmer’s environmental attributes of leguminous green manure. A choice experiment method is conducted to learn about small farmer’s preference toward green manure. The results suggest that small farmers with planting confidence are willing to pay for different environmental attributes of leguminous green manure. Among them, the willingness to pay (WTP) for the quality and fertility of cultivated land is the highest, and the WTP for air quality is the lowest. Small farmers who do not have confidence in planting are only willing to pay for attribute of natural disaster days. We identify key factors that might influence small farmer’s payment preference, including gender, age, education level, degree of part-time employment, and the trend perception of environmental change.

Ultraviolet-B (UV-B) promotes anthocyanin accumulation and improves fruit quality in plants. To explore the underlying network of MYB transcription factors that regulates UV-B-induced anthocyanin biosynthesis in blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum), we analyzed the response of MYB transcription factor genes to UV-B treatment. Transcriptome sequencing analysis revealed that VcMYBA2 and VcMYB114 expression were upregulated and were positively correlated with the expression of anthocyanin structural genes under UV-B radiation according to weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) data. The VcUVR8-VcCOP1-VcHY5 pathway perceives UV-B signals and promotes the expression of anthocyanin structural genes by upregulating VcMYBA2 and VcMYB114 or by regulating the VcBBXs-VcMYB pathway, ultimately promoting anthocyanin accumulation. By contrast, VcMYB4a and VcUSP1 were downregulated under UV-B treatment, and VcMYB4a expression was negatively correlated with that of anthocyanin biosynthesis genes in response to UV-B. Analysis of VcMYB4a-overexpressing and wild-type blueberry calli exposed to UV-B radiation revealed that VcMYB4a represses UV-B-induced anthocyanin accumulation. Yeast one-hybrid and dual luciferase assays showed that the universal stress protein VcUSP1 directly bound to the promoter of VcMYB4a. These results suggest that the VcUSP1-VcMYB4a pathway negatively regulates UV-B-induced anthocyanin biosynthesis and provide insight into UV-B-induced anthocyanin biosynthesis.

ObjectivesThis study was performed to investigate the relationship between right ventricular free wall longitudinal strain (RVFWSL) and low cardiac output syndrome (LCOS) after surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) and to further explore its association with readmission within 2 years in patients who developed LCOS after SAVR.MethodsThis single-center retrospective observational study involved consecutive patients who underwent SAVR at our hospital from May 2018 to June 2020. Preoperative echocardiography was obtained within 3 days before SAVR. The longitudinal strain of the right ventricle was analyzed using the right ventricle as the main section, and the RVFWSL and right ventricular four-chamber longitudinal strain (RV4CSL) were obtained. The primary observation was the occurrence of LCOS. The secondary prognostic indicators were mainly the readmission rates within 2 years.ResultsIn total, 146 patients were finally included in this study. The RVFWSL was significantly lower in the LCOS group than in the No-LCOS group (16.63 ± 2.10) vs. (23.95 ± 6.33), respectively; P < 0.001). The multivariate regression analysis showed that the RVFWSL was associated with LCOS (odds ratio, 1.676; 95% confidence interval, 1.258–2.232; P < 0.001). The receiver operating characteristic curve showed that the cut-off value for RVFWSL to predict LCOS was less than –18.3, with an area under the curve of 0.879, sensitivity of 100%, and specificity of 80.47%. Existing Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) algorithms suffer from sample inefficiency. Generally, episodic control-based approaches are solutions that leverage highly-rewarded past experiences to improve sample efficiency of DRL algorithms. However, previous episodic control-based approaches fail to utilize the latent information from the historical behaviors (e.g., state transitions, topological similarities, etc.) and lack scalability during DRL training. This work introduces Neural Episodic Control with State Abstraction (NECSA), a simple but effective state abstraction-based episodic control containing a more comprehensive episodic memory, a novel state evaluation, and a multi-step state analysis. We evaluate our approach to the MuJoCo and Atari tasks in OpenAI gym domains. The experimental results indicate that NECSA achieves higher sample efficiency than the state-of-the-art episodic control-based approaches. We design an Algorithm to fabricate universal holomorphic maps between any two complex Euclidean spaces, within preassigned transcendental growth rate. As by-products, universal holomorphic maps from $\mathbb{C}^n$ to $\mathbb{CP}^m$ ($n\leqslant m$) and to complex tori having slow growth are obtained. We take inspiration from Oka manifolds theory, Nevanlinna theory, and hypercyclic operators theory.

— Populations of Balanophora from southern China are often identified by local botanists as B. laxiflora based on their long cylindric male inflorescence, subsessile male flowers with slender rudimentary bracts, and subdiscoid synandria. In this study, we clarify the identity of seven such populations based on morphological characters and phylogenetic analysis using nuclear 18S and ITS ribosomal DNA sequences. We confirmed the occurrence of dioecious populations of B. yakushimensis and two previously unrecognized species, which we describe here as B. parajaponica and B. appressa. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that B. parajaponica, B. yakushimensis, B. appressa, B. laxiflora, and the agamospermic B. japonica, formed a well resolved clade, viz. the B. laxiflora clade. The four dioecious species, although highly similar in the morphology of male inflorescence and flowers, can be separated by leaf morphology and arrangement, ovary color, and arrangement of female flowers. The species limit of B. laxiflora, however, remains unresolved.

We answer a basic question in Nevanlinna theory that Ahlfors currents associated to the same entire curve may be nonunique. Indeed, we will construct one exotic entire curve f : C → X which produces infinitely many cohomologically different Ahlfors currents. Moreover, concerning Siu's decomposition, for an arbitrary k ∈ Z + ∪ { ∞ } , some of the obtained Ahlfors currents have singular parts supported on k irreducible curves. In addition, they can have nonzero diffuse parts as well. Lastly, we provide new examples of diffuse Ahlfors currents on the product of two elliptic curves and on P 2 ( C ) , and we show cohomologically elaborate Ahlfors currents on blow-ups of X.

Background Unequal access to healthcare is a global medical problem. Telemedicine, recently made possible by technological advances, may mitigate this inequity. However, the usefulness of telemedicine for procedure-driven disciplines, such as otolaryngology, under infectious conditions (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic) is unknown. Methods Telemedicine was made legal in Taiwan by an amendment to the Physician Act in 2018. Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital was the first hospital in Taiwan to provide the telemedicine service by connecting to the Chenggong Branch of Taitung Hospital (CGBTH) in November 2018. This retrospective cohort study included all new and established otolaryngology outpatient consultations between November 2018 and May 2020 at CGBTH. The Current Procedural Terminology and International Classification of Disease, 10th Revision codes, patient demographic data, and questionnaire data were obtained. Results The study included 123 patients with 218 encounters over 19 months. The majority of complaints were ear-related (52.6%). Overall, 49% of the encounters required a specialized procedure for diagnosis and treatment; of these, cerumen removal was the most common procedure. The patient subjective improvement rate increased over the study period (from 62.0% to 78.9%). The rates of return and case closure were both around 90% in 2018 and 2019. The number of otolaryngology consultations and rate of return declined after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic; however, the subjective improvement and case closure rates remained stable. The telemedicine service saved at least 2 h driving time per visit. Conclusion Telemedicine for otolaryngology is a promising approach for remote and underserved regions, as well as during an infectious disease pandemic.
