The issue of managing organic waste such as animal waste and industrial waste has emerged as a result of the fast development in urbanization around the world. It can be hazardous to the environment and public health if these are not properly stored, collected, and disposed of. These biological wastes can be turned into nutrient-rich biofertilizers using the vermicomposting process. The bio-oxidative method includes the combined activity of earthworms and microbes. The pH, organic carbon, organic matter, and the C:N ratio of the various organic waste mixtures showed a declining tendency during this process but the content of nitrogen, available phosphorous and exchangeable potassium showed a rising trend as the vermicomposting time progressed. Maximum earthworm growth and reproduction were reported better in different feed materials prepared from industrial wastes. Therefore, the present review article is based on the knowledge of using earthworms to stabilize waste.

The recently introduced topological heavy fermion model (THFM) provides a means for interpreting the low-energy electronic degrees of freedom of the magic angle twisted bilayer graphene as hybridization amidst highly dispersing topological conduction and weakly dispersing localized heavy fermions. In order to understand the Landau quantization of the ensuing electronic spectrum, a generalization of THFM to include the magnetic field B is desired, but currently missing. Here we provide a systematic derivation of the THFM in B and solve the resulting model to obtain the interacting Hofstadter spectra for single particle charged excitations. While naive minimal substitution within THFM fails to correctly account for the total number of magnetic subbands within the narrow band i.e. its total Chern number, our method -- based on projecting the light and heavy fermions onto the irreducible representations of the magnetic translation group -- reproduces the correct total Chern number. Excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in agricultural field for the huge production of agricultural products causes adverse effect on environment as well as on human health. Animal dungs and agricultural wastes are serious problem for society so it needs to be managed properly. Vermicomposting is the best process for the management of these wastes with the help of earthworm Eisenia fetida and the by-products released from these vermicompost are used in enhancing the agricultural productivity. Soybean (Glycine max L.) is a short season leguminous crop which has been recognised as pulse-oil seed. It is a highly nutritive crop which contains 43% of protein and 20% of oil approximately but due to various reasons its production rate is decreasing day by day. The vermiwash and neem, garlic and tobacco based biopesticides are being used as an alternative for chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The aim of present study was to observe the growth, flowering and productivity of soybean plant after foliar spray of vermiwash obtained from gram bran (GB) and buffalo dung (BD) with combinations of aqueous extracts of garlic, neem and tobacco leaves. The significant growth (cm) and productivity (g/m2) were observed after the foliar spray of vermiwash (GB+BD) and aqueous extracts of biopesticides (garlic, neem and tobacco leaves). The highest growth of soybean (49.2±2.6 cm) was observed after foliar application of vermiwash (GB+BD) with aqueous extract of neem leaves in ratio of 10:1 whereas, the maximum significant early flowering period (32.3±2.5 days) and productivity (423±14 g/m2) were obtained after treatment of vermiwash (GB+BD) with aqueous extract of neem, garlic and tobacco leaves in ratio of 10:1:1:1. The use of vermiwash with biopesticides in increasing agricultural product is a boon for crops as it is environmentally beneficial and costeffective alternative to chemical fertilizers and synthetic pesticides.

Providing feedback on the argumentation of the learner is essential for developing critical thinking skills, however, it requires a lot of time and effort. To mitigate the overload on teachers, we aim to automate a process of providing feedback, especially giving diagnostic comments which point out the weaknesses inherent in the argumentation. It is recommended to give specific diagnostic comments so that learners can recognize the diagnosis without misinterpretation. However, it is not obvious how the task of providing specific diagnostic comments should be formulated. We present a formulation of the task as template selection and slot filling to make an automatic evaluation easier and the behavior of the model more tractable. The key to the formulation is the possibility of creating a template set that is sufficient for practical use. In this paper, we define three criteria that a template set should satisfy: expressiveness, informativeness, and uniqueness, and verify the feasibility of creating a template set that satisfies these criteria as a first trial. We will show that it is feasible through an annotation study that converts diagnostic comments given in a text to a template format. Most of the existing work that focus on the identification of implicit knowledge in arguments generally represent implicit knowledge in the form of commonsense or factual knowledge. However, such knowledge is not sufficient to understand the implicit reasoning link between individual argumentative components (i.e., claim and premise). In this work, we focus on identifying the implicit knowledge in the form of argumentation knowledge which can help in understanding the reasoning link in arguments. Being inspired by the Argument from Consequences scheme, we propose a semi-structured template to represent such argumentation knowledge that explicates the implicit reasoning in arguments via causality. We create a novel two-phase annotation process with simplified guidelines and show how to collect and filter high-quality implicit reasonings via crowdsourcing. We find substantial inter-annotator agreement for quality evaluation between experts, but find evidence that casts a few questions on the feasibility of collecting high-quality semi-structured implicit reasoning through our crowdsourcing process. Explicating implicit reasoning (i.e. warrants) in arguments is a long-standing challenge for natural language understanding systems. While recent approaches have focused on explicating warrants via crowdsourcing or expert annotations, the quality of warrants has been questionable due to the extreme complexity and subjectivity of the task. In this paper, we tackle the complex task of warrant explication and devise various methodologies for collecting warrants. We conduct an extensive study with trained experts to evaluate the resulting warrants of each methodology and find that our methodologies allow for high-quality warrants to be collected. We construct a preliminary dataset of 6,000 warrants annotated over 600 arguments for 3 debatable topics. Integrating intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) and Rate-Splitting Multiple Access (RSMA) is an effective solution to improve the spectral/energy efficiency in next-generation (beyond 5G (B5G) and 6G) wireless networks. In this paper, we investigate a rate-splitting (RS)-based transmission technique for an IRS-aided communication network involving both near and cell-edge users. In particular, we derive a new architecture called IRS-RS that leverages the interplay between RS and IRS, with an aim to maximize the weighted sum-rate (WSR) of users by selecting the reflecting coefficients at the IRS and designing beamformers at the BS under the constraints of power at the base station (BS), quality of service (QoS) at each user and finite resolution at the IRS. To solve the non-convex WSR maximization problem, we propose an alternating algorithm and compare its performance with baseline non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) based transmission for an IRS-aided communication network for both perfect and imperfect CSIT cases. Through numerical results, it is shown that the proposed IRS-RS architecture yields better QoS with respect to the cell-edge users when compared to IRS-NOMA transmission scheme.

Schrieffer-Wolff transformation is extensively used in quantum many-body physics to calculate the low energy effective Hamiltonian. It offers a perturbative method to understand the renormalization effects in the strong coupling regime of the quantum many-body models. The generator for Schrieffer-Wolff transformation is calculated using heuristic methods. It is highly desirable to have a rigorous, systematic and simple method for the calculation of generator for this highly important transformation. In this paper, we put forward such a method. We demonstrate our method by applying it to few well-known models from various fields like strongly correlated electron systems, quantum optics and cavity quantum electrodynamics. Our method can be applied to a broad class of quantum many-body Hamiltonians., 12 pages, first version of the paper. As rational agents, we are constantly faced with questions about what to do, think, and feel. The answers to these questions are given by the normative standards that govern our actions, thoughts, and feelings. But it isn’t enough that our actions, thoughts, and feelings just happen to comply with these standards. It is also important that the success involved in complying with these standards is attributable to us as agents, instead of being merely accidental. For our success to be attributable to us, we must not just comply with these standards, but actually be guided by them in acting, thinking, and feeling. This distinction, between merely complying with a standard and being guided by that standard, has application throughout our normative lives. The aim of this dissertation is to introduce a category that I call normative achievement, and illustrate its connection to rational agency. A normative achievement is the positive status an action, thought, or feeling has when it is guided by a standard that governs it, as opposed to merely complying with that standard. On the account I develop, normative achievements consist in being guided by a standard through responsiveness to normative reasons that are connected in the right way to that standard. Besides sketching a general account of normative achievement, I illustrate the category by developing accounts of two achievements: moral worth and rationality. In doing so, I shed light on how achievements like moral worth and rationality are ultimately successful exercises of our rational agency – our capacity to discern good reasons for action, thought, and feeling, and respond to those reasons accordingly.

This paper focuses on edge caching in mm/{\mu}Wave hybrid wireless networks, in which all mmWave SBSs and {\mu}Wave MBSs are capable of storing contents to alleviate the traffic burden on the backhaul link that connect the BSs and the core network to retrieve the non-cached contents. The main aim of this work is to address the effect of capacity-limited backhaul on the average success probability (ASP) of file delivery and latency. In particular, we consider a more practical mmWave hybrid beamforming in small cells and massive MIMO communication in macro cells. Based on stochastic geometry and a simple retransmission protocol, we derive the association probabilities by which the ASP of file delivery and latency are derived. Taking no caching event as the benchmark, we evaluate these QoS performance metrics under MC and UC placement policies. The theoretical results demonstrate that backhaul capacity indeed has a significant impact on network performance especially under weak backhaul capacity. Besides, we also show the tradeoff among cache size, retransmission attempts, ASP of file delivery, and latency. The interplay shows that cache size and retransmission under different caching placement schemes alleviates the backhaul requirements. Simulation results are present to valid our analysis.

In this paper, we consider a hybrid millimeter wave (mmWave) and micro wave ($\mu$Wave) network from the perspective of \emph{wireless caching} and study the optimal probabilistic content/file caching placement at desirable base stations (BSs) using a stochastic geometric framework. Considering the average success probability (ASP) of file delivery as the performance metric, we derive expressions for the association probability of the typical user to the mmWave and $\mu$Wave networks. Accordingly, we provide an upper bound for the ASP of file delivery and formulate the content caching placement scheme as an optimization problem with respect to caching probabilities, that jointly optimizes the ASP of file delivery considering both content placement and delivery phases. In particular, we consider the caching placement strategy under both noise-limited and interference-limited environments. We numerically evaluate the performance of the proposed caching schemes under essential factors, such as blockages in the mmWave network, cluster radius, BS density, and path loss and compare it with uniform caching placement, caching $M$ most popular contents, and random caching placement. Numerical results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed caching scheme over others, albeit certain trade-offs.

International audience; This paper presents a comprehensive study towards the identification and quantification of the detectability improvement of resistive open and short defects, brought by specific supply voltage and body biasing conditions applied during manufacturing test. The study is conducted using a didactic circuit implemented in 28nm UTBB FDSOI-RVT (Ultra-Thin Body and Buried oxide Fully Depleted Silicon-On-Insulator, Regular VT) technology in the context of delay-based test. Electrical simulation results are analyzed in order to both highlight the optimal test conditions overall and evaluate the individual improvement in defect detection brought by each factor (supply voltage and body biasing conditions), for different resistive defect types.

In this paper, we study a set-up in which quantum dot is tunnel-coupled to Majorana-Kramers pair(MKP) which are the edge modes of time reversal invariant topological superconductor (TRITOPS), which is an experimental realization of time reversal invariant Kitaev chain model. Our motivation is to study the effect of Majorana-Kramers pair on Kondo fixed point and conversely the effect of Kondo interaction on Majorana-Kramers pair. This way we can capture the signatures of Majorana fermions on Kondo effect in quantum dots which can be probed feasibly in experiments. Employing the renormalization group method, we report the first study of the signatures of Majorana-Kramers pair in the dynamical spin susceptibility of the quantum dot electrons. We not only calculate the flow equations for coupling constants but also study the renormalization of observables and especially calculate dynamical spin susceptibility. We propose that since these dynamical quantities have signatures of Majorana-Kramers pair, so they provide an unambiguous experimental probe for detection of Majorana fermions in TRITOPS., Comment: 17pages,updated references and introduction; comments are welcome

There is a prima facie tension between impartial morality, on one hand, and the kind of partiality necessary for love, on the other. In this paper, I explore this tension in light of critiques of impartial morality by Michael Stocker and Bernard Williams, and argue that their remarks show it to be a deep and difficult tension. I go on to examine two kinds of attempts to resolve this tension, and argue that they fail to reconcile impartial morality with the kind of partiality necessary for love. I then offer my own solution to the problem, according to which impartial morality can be reconciled with the right kind of partiality as long as we grant that morality is not always overriding. When we grant this, I argue, we make room for love, because we are not forced to have standing unconditional commitments to acting in accordance with impartial moral principles.

If the ATP demand is not met, studies suggest that this will lead to senescence and cell death in the affected tissue. The term reserve respiratory capacity or spare respiratory capacity is used to describe the amount of extra ATP that can be produced by oxidative phosphorylation in case of a sudden increase in energy demand. Depletion of the reserve respiratory capacity has been related to a range of pathologies affecting high energy requiring tissues. During aging of an organism, and as a result of mitochondrial dysfunctions, the efficiency of oxidative phosphorylation declines. Based on examples from the energy requiring tissues such as brain, heart, and skeletal muscle, we propose that the age-related decline of oxidative phosphorylation decreases the reserve respiratory capacity of the affected tissue, sensitizes the cells to surges in ATP demand, and increases the risk of resulting pathologies.

Mitochondrial dysfunction has been implicated in premature aging, age-related diseases, and tumor initiation and progression. Alterations of the mitochondrial genome accumulate both in aging tissue and tumors. This paper describes our contemporary view of mechanisms by which alterations of the mitochondrial genome contributes to the development of age- and tumor-related pathological conditions. The mechanisms described encompass altered production of mitochondrial ROS, altered regulation of the nuclear epigenome, affected initiation of apoptosis, and a limiting effect on the production of ribonucleotides and deoxyribonucleotides.

Background Uracil DNA glycosylase (UDG) plays a major role in repair of uracil formed due to deamination of cytosine. UDG in human cells is present in both the nucleus and mitochondrial compartments. Although, UDG's role in the nucleus is well established its role in mitochondria is less clear. Results In order to identify UDG's role in the mitochondria we expressed UGI (uracil glycosylase inhibitor) a natural inhibitor of UDG in the mitochondria. Our studies suggest that inhibition of UDG by UGI in the mitochondria does not lead to either spontaneous or induced mutations in mtDNA. Our studies also suggest that UGI expression has no affect on cellular growth or cytochrome c-oxidase activity. Conclusions These results suggest that human cell mitochondria contain alternatives glycosylase (s) that may function as back up DNA repair protein (s) that repair uracil in the mitochondria.

Background The interaction of nuclear and mitochondrial genes is an essential feature in maintenance of normal cellular function. Of 82 structural subunits that make up the oxidative phosphorylation system in the mitochondria, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) encodes 13 subunits and rest of the subunits are encoded by nuclear DNA. Mutations in mitochondrial genes encoding the 13 subunits have been reported in a variety of cancers. However, little is known about the nuclear response to impairment of mitochondrial function in human cells. Results We isolated a Rho0 (devoid of mtDNA) derivative of a breast cancer cell line. Our study suggests that depletion of mtDNA results in oxidative stress, causing increased lipid peroxidation in breast cancer cells. Using a cDNA microarray we compared differences in the nuclear gene expression profile between a breast cancer cell line (parental Rho+) and its Rho0 derivative impaired in mitochondrial function. Expression of several nuclear genes involved in cell signaling, cell architecture, energy metabolism, cell growth, apoptosis including general transcription factor TFIIH, v-maf, AML1, was induced in Rho0 cells. Expression of several genes was also down regulated. These include phospholipase C, agouti related protein, PKC gamma, protein tyrosine phosphatase C, phosphodiestarase 1A (cell signaling), PIBF1, cytochrome p450, (metabolism) and cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor p19, and GAP43 (cell growth and differentiation). Conclusions Mitochondrial impairment in breast cancer cells results in altered expression of nuclear genes involved in signaling, cellular architecture, metabolism, cell growth and differentiation, and apoptosis. These genes may mediate the cross talk between mitochondria and the nucleus.
