Les adolescentes et adolescents multiplient leurs activités sur Instagram, Snapchat, Tiktok et autres réseaux sociaux. Cette présence en ligne inquiète puisque plusieurs recherches corrèlent l’exposition aux écrans à certains impacts négatifs sur le bien-être. Ces préoccupations vis-à-vis le temps-écran mènent l’État, les entreprises et les organismes communautaires à proposer des recommandations qui visent l’autorégulation. Bien qu’intéressante, cette approche en prévention éclipse les dynamiques collectives mises en lumière par les études en sciences sociales qui rapportent la perspective des ados, suggérant que les réseaux sociaux jouent un rôle important dans le maintien de relations sociales et l’expression personnelle. Cette thèse se penche sur les façons dont les personnes adolescentes participent collectivement et au quotidien à la médiatisation de pratiques sociales dans l’écosystème des plateformes, particulièrement via les réseaux sociaux. Elle rappelle l’importance d’écouter les ados avec leur allégresse, leurs incertitudes et leurs contradictions, afin d’incorporer davantage les questions sociales lorsqu’on parle de leur utilisation des réseaux sociaux, notamment en développant des interventions qui les concernent. L’aspect social de la question de recherche est d’abord observé à travers le concept sensibilisateur de la deep mediatization, rappelant que les pratiques mises en données aujourd’hui sont le berceau des transformations sociales de demain. Avec une attention particulière à l’écosystème des plateformes, les mécanismes de datafication, commodification et sélection ainsi que les affordances permettent de faire un pont entre l’expérience rapportée par les jeunes, la formation de normes sociales, et l’architecture des réseaux sociaux. Mobilisant une méthodologie qualitative, cette démarche donne une voix à des jeunes de 14 à 17 ans de milieux différents, en documentant leur expérience des médias sociaux grâce à une analyse thématique de 19 entrevues et de 2 groupes de discussion. Les résultats de la thèse documentent les façons nuancées dont les personnes adolescentes composent avec leurs relations sociales et la panoplie de fonctionnalités pour converser, publier et scroller. Ces pratiques sociales génèrent des données qui peuvent bénéficier aux réseaux sociaux, et nous invitent à considérer l’ado non pas comme une victime des effets des plateformes, mais comme une personne occupant un rôle actif dans le façonnement de leur écosystème. Cinq normes sont identifiées pour étudier la force injonctive du collectif dans les pratiques des ados: 1) la sensibilité à autrui au moment de converser; 2) la disponibilité en tout temps pour converser; 3) la fréquence et la qualité du contenu partagé selon le type de publication; 4) se présenter authentiquement conforme et 5) scroller sur les réseaux sociaux les plus populaires. Enfin, on apprend que les ados considèrent davantage les relations sociales que les fonctionnalités lorsqu’une pratique est collectivement imbriquée, comme l’entretien d’une conversation médiatisée ou la publication. Et à l’opposé, les ados se disent plus affecté.e.s par les fonctionnalités du réseau social quand l’activité est réalisée individuellement, comme scroller. Comprendre l’agentivité de l’environnement en ligne et son processus normatif selon le caractère social d’une pratique nous informe de nouvelles manières d’intervenir auprès des ados pour une utilisation plus lucide du numérique., Adolescents are using Instagram, Snapchat, Tiktok and other social media more than ever before. Their increased presence online is worrisome because a number of studies establish correlations between screen time and negative impacts on well-being. Concerns about the amount of time spent with screens have led governments, companies and community organizations to issue recommendations that call for self-regulation of time spent online. Despite its benefits, this approach to prevention fails to consider the collective dynamics highlighted by social science research that, drawing on adolescents’ perspectives, illustrate the important role of social media in personal expression and maintaining social relationships. This thesis examines the ways in which adolescents participate collectively and on a daily basis in the mediatization of social practices within an ecosystem of platforms, particularly through their activities on social media. It argues for the importance of listening to adolescents’ voices, with all their enthusiasm, uncertainties, and contradictions, in order to look beyond individual uses of social media when designing programs and interventions that concern them. We frame our observations using the sensitizing concept of deep mediatization, that reminds us how today’s data practices are the source of tomorrow’s societal transformations. Within an ecosystemic perspective on digital platforms, the concept of affordances establishes links between the mechanisms of datafication, commodification and selection, platform architectures, the formation of social norms and youth’s experiences on social media. Using a qualitative methodology, we documented the social media experiences of young people aged 14 to 17 from a variety of backgrounds, through a thematic analysis of 19 interviews and two focus groups. The results document the subtle ways that adolescents manage their social relationships and the multiple functionalities offered by these media to converse online, post content and scroll. While direct messaging, posting and scrolling all generate data that fuel the economic model of various social media platforms, the active role of young people on social media invites us to consider adolescents not as victims needing protection from social media but as fullfledged participants in shaping their ecosystem. The injunctive effect of the community on adolescents’ practices is apparent in five norms identified from their comments : 1) being sensitive to others while direct messaging; 2) the expectation of constant availability to converse online; 3) implicit rules about the frequency and quality of content posted according to the type of publication; 4) presenting oneself authentically while fitting in (i.e. being a unique individual but not too different); and 5) scrolling on the most popular social media. Our results demonstrate that when a practice is collectively configured and visible, as in the case direct messaging or posting, adolescents rely heavily on social cues and relationships and platform functionalities have limited effects. In contrast, they appear to be more dependent on what the platforms propose when an activity, like scrolling, is primarily individual. Understanding how the agency of the online environment and the normative processes at work vary according to the social characteristics of different social media practices opens the door to imagining new ways of intervening in order to encourage a more lucid use of digital environments by youth.

Tangible controls-especially sliders and rotary knobs-have been explored in a wide range of interactive applications for desktop and immersive environments. Studies have shown that they support greater precision and provide proprioceptive benefits, such as support for eyes-free interaction. However, such controls tend to be expressly designed for specific applications. We draw inspiration from a bespoke controller for immersive data visualisation, but decompose this design into a simple, wireless, composable unit featuring two actuated sliders and a rotary encoder. Through these controller units, we explore the interaction opportunities around actuated sliders; supporting precise selection, infinite scrolling, adaptive data representations, and rich haptic feedback; all within a mode-less interaction space. We demonstrate the controllers' use for simple, ad hoc desktop interaction,before moving on to more complex, multi-dimensional interactions in VR and AR. We show that the flexibility and composability of these actuated controllers provides an emergent design space which covers the range of interactive dynamics for visual analysis. In a user study involving pairs performing collaborative visual analysis tasks in mixed-reality, our participants were able to easily compose rich visualisations, make insights and discuss their findings.

A variable message sign (VMS), which is a key component of intelligent transportation systems, has been frequently used in the management of urban roads and motorways to provide drivers with real-time traffic condition information about a road section or area. Nevertheless, there is a lack of unified regulations for VMS design, which makes it difficult to accurately determine the understandability and legibility of VMS information. In practice, inappropriate designs of VMSs are common, such as overload of VMS information and excessive number of phases, particularly on the urban roads of China. Building on our earlier findings obtained by surveys, in this study, field tests were conducted to assess the reliability of VMS information in terms of the visual perception characteristics of drivers. For a full visual perception, the information displayed on a VMS must be reliable, i.e., it should be easy for drivers to detect, obtain, and understand the messages they require. Two basic theories—information theory and visual perception theory—were introduced to build a quantification model of VMS information, select evaluation indices, and design the experimental process. A total of 24 drivers participated in the field experiments and questionnaires. Five indices—information obtainment rate, periodic validity, driver subjective scoring and the corresponding UI (represents information intelligibility), and CE (represents information legibility)—were analyzed to evaluate their relationships to VMS information reliability. The results confirmed that the amount of information, and the scrolling period considering redundant distance, significantly affect the reliability of VMSs information. For static VMSs, the information obtainment rate and the subjective scoring decrease with increasing amount of information. The recollection accuracy of the drivers significantly declines when the amount of information shown increases to 90 bits, corresponding to an information obtainment rate of less than 0.8 and UI equal to 0. For dynamic VMSs, the information reliability deteriorates as the scrolling period shortens and the number of phases increases. Unreasonable reliability is found when the periodic validity is less than 0.9, i.e., the actual scrolling period is more than 10% less than the calculated one, corresponding to CE equal to 0. The reliability of information was evaluated by combining the subjective scoring of the drivers and a data-based statistical analysis and considering driving safety. Accordingly, it was recommended that 90 bit is the maximum amount of information to be shown on a VMS and that the preferred scrolling period of each phase of a dynamic VMS is 5 s. The results of this study support the objective of providing reliable information to drivers by addressing the problems related to the amount of information and presentation time for VMSs. These findings provide a basis for determining the thresholds for VMS information to promote practical and user-friendly designs of VMSs on urban roads.

Many developers of digital Qur'an applications today still use tap to scrolling to run applications, although the features are interesting. This makes it less effective and efficient in opening the Qur'an. As is the case during the taklim assembly, some da'i are very interactive with jama'ah, asking to open certain surahs and verses so that there are some who have difficulty in searching. Therefore, the need for the Qur'anic application with voice command command to facilitate users. This research is the development of the Qur'an application with voice recognition feature. Using the waterfall method in development, voice command with google speech API as a voice command of surah and verse calling in the Qur'an application 30 juz. Conducted 10 randomized experiments with calls in the form of play or open surahs and certain verses give a 90% accuracy result. Commands can be given when online or offline. Oleh karena itu perlunya aplikasi Al Qur’an dengan perintah voice command untuk memudahkan pengguna. Penelitian ini merupakan pengembangan aplikasi Al Qur’an dengan fitur voice recognition. Menggunakan metode waterfall dalam pengembangan, voice command dengan google speech API sebagai perintah suara pemanggilan surah dan ayat dalam aplikasi Al Qur’an 30 juz. Dilakukan 10 kali percobaan secara acak dengan pemanggilan berupa putar atau buka surah dan ayat tertentu memberikan hasil akurasi 90%. Perintah bisa diberikan ketika dalam keadaan online maupun offline. Maka penggunaan google speech API dapat sangat berguna untuk digunakan dalam pengembangan aplikasi lainnya.

PURPOSE: Dynamic text presentation methods may improve reading ability in patients with central vision loss (CVL) by eliminating the need for accurate eye movements. We compared rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP) and horizontal scrolling text presentation (scrolling) on reading rate and reading acuity in CVL observers and normally-sighted controls with simulated CVL (simCVL). METHODS: CVL observers’ (n = 11) central scotomas and preferred retinal loci (PRL) for each eye were determined with MAIA microperimetry and fixation analysis. SimCVL controls (n = 16) used 4° inferior eccentric viewing, enforced with an Eyelink eye-tracker. Observers read aloud 4-word phrases randomly drawn from the MNREAD sentences. Six font sizes (0.50–1.30 logMAR) were tested with the better near acuity eye and both eyes of CVL observers. Three font sizes (0.50–1.00 logMAR) were tested binocularly in simCVL controls. Text presentation duration of each word for RSVP or drift speed for scrolling was varied to determine reading rate, defined as 50% of words read correctly. In a subset of CVL observers (n = 7), relationships between PRL eccentricity, reading threshold and rate were explored. RESULTS: SimCVL controls demonstrated significantly faster reading rates for RSVP than scrolling text (p < 0.0001), and there was a significant main effect of font size (p < 0.0001). CVL patients demonstrated no significant differences in binocular reading rate between font sizes (p = 0.12) and text presentation (p = 0.25). Similar results were seen under monocular conditions. Reading acuity for RSVP and scrolling worsened with increasing PRL eccentricity (μ = 4.5°, p = 0.07). RSVP reading rate decreased significantly with increasing eccentricity (p = 0.02). CONCLUSIONS: Consistent with previous work, reading acuity worsened with increasing PRL eccentricity. RSVP and scrolling text presentations significantly affected reading rate in simCVL, but not in CVL observers, suggesting that simCVL results may not generalise to pathological CVL.

Objective: To assess patients’ awareness of the availability of information related to orthodontics on social media, and to explore patients’ willingness to engage with social media to aid with orthodontic treatment. Design: Prospective cross-sectional survey. Setting: This survey was conducted at Croydon University Hospital orthodontic department. Participants: A total of 125 orthodontic patients, both new and in treatment. There were no exclusion criteria. Methods: All participants completed a questionnaire designed to explore their awareness, access to and utilisation of social media as well as their willingness to engage with social media to support orthodontic treatment. There were no age restrictions or exclusion criteria. Results: Of the patients, 99% had access to social media. Of these patients, 64% were aware that social media platforms were available to help with orthodontic treatment, 30% had utilised social media related to orthodontics, with the most popular platforms being Instagram (n = 17) and Snapchat (n = 12). Of the patients, 73% stated that they would be willing to use social media in the future to support orthodontic treatment. Conclusion: Social media can be engaging, accessible and versatile, and has been shown to be effective at improving patients’ knowledge regarding orthodontic treatment. As such, it may be used as a valuable tool for information provision to engage orthodontic patients. Awareness of the availability of orthodontics content on social media is increasing; however, only one-third of participants had previously used it to aid with orthodontic treatment. Given the availability of information on social media targeted at orthodontic patients there is a need to assess the quality of this information and if appropriate navigate patients towards high-quality, effective resources.

Large-scale unstructured point cloud scenes can be quickly visualized without prior reconstruction by utilizing levels-of-detail structures to load an appropriate subset from out-of-core storage for rendering the current view. However, as soon as we need structures within the point cloud, e.g., for interactions between objects, the construction of state-of-the-art data structures requires O(NlogN) time for N points, which is not feasible in real time for millions of points that are possibly updated in each frame. Therefore, we propose to use a surface representation structure which trades off the (here negligible) disadvantage of single-frame use for both output-dominated and near-linear construction time in practice, exploiting the inherent 2D property of sampled surfaces in 3D. This structure tightly encompasses the assumed surface of unstructured points in a set of bounding depth intervals for each cell of a discrete 2D grid. The sorted depth samples in the structure permit fast surface queries, and on top of that an occlusion graph for the scene comes almost for free. This graph enables novel real-time user operations such as revealing partially occluded objects, or scrolling through layers of occluding objects, e.g., walls in a building. As an example application we showcase a 3D scene exploration framework that enables fast, more sophisticated interactions with point clouds rendered in real time.

Generally we use simple led regular static type display screen to deliver the message. Previously, to update the data either it may be large one it takes a long process to update data. Now a days scrolling type displays are more preferred over the static type displays. By adopting a programming device called NODEMCU, data can be displayed on dot matrix in scrolling manner. By adopting led 8x8 dot matrix using can controlled via IoT based system which controlled by mobile or laptop. Scrolling type text display boards, projects uses led dot matrix displays or regular outside purpose digital sign boards. The message scrolling displays are also type of scrolling LED display examples, presented here are nodemcu based led matrix display project. The led matrix is controlled using nodemcu by serial communication protocols. In this pair of 8*8 led Matrix display modules have used to display the transmitted message on Matrix display. nodemcu is heart of this project. The nodemcu is the transmitter to send data, and the receiver is led matrix display to display message on it.

The emerging trend in technical research is to use client-generated data composed of community media to survey community opinion and scientific communication on employment and care issues. This study gathered data from the social website questions and answers and the indirect effects of stack to survey the key factors that influence public preferences in technical knowledge and opinions. Using a web search engine, topic modeling, and regression data modeling, this study quantitatively analyzed the effects of the textual and auxiliary functions of the response on the number of votes received with the response. Compared to previous surveys based on open assessments, the model results show that Quora users are more likely to talk only about technology. It may fail when query keywords do not match the text content of large documents containing relevant questions from the existing methods. Furthermore, consumers are generally not experts and provide ambiguous queries (Q&As) that lead to mixed results and face a problem with existing methods. To solve these problems, the researchers attempted to reorganize the primary results and present advanced distributed topic modeling techniques to address technologies and platforms by increasing the attributes and the time and space required to generate the model. This work briefly describes the public question-and-answer structure around the world and follows the development of the main themes of housing and employment opportunities for next-generation technologies worldwide in real-time scrolling.

Reflux monitoring has advanced from inpatient continuous pH recordings on scrolling graph paper introduced 50 years ago to modern catheter-based 24-hour and wireless multiple-day ambulatory recordings, and the capability of detecting reflux episodes irrespective of pH using impedance technology. Testing is performed off antisecretory therapy when there is no prior documentation of reflux disease, and pH-impedance monitoring can be performed on therapy in symptomatic patients with proven reflux. Prolonged wireless pH monitoring evaluates day-to-day variation in reflux exposure. New impedance-based metrics evaluating baseline impedance and post-reflux swallow induced peristaltic wave have potential to augment the diagnostic value of reflux monitoring.

Modern society has a culture that consumes mobile-based content. Despite this trend, the contents emphasizing the device characteristics were not diversified and a particular method of production has not yet been developed. For this method proposal, the objective of this work is to produce content that emphasizes spatiality, while simultaneously differentiating it from content using existing parallax scrolling techniques. Based on this situation, we herein developed mobile contents that produced 3D stereoscopic effects by reconstructing the existing 2D webtoon “Tilly the Spiky Hands” as the main content. In this study, we examine the technical elements of parallax and present the results of functions developed through screen and functional elements. This work is meaningful in terms of technology and culture by presenting a new method of production using these mobile characteristics.

Publisher Copyright: © 2021 ACM. Copy-and-paste operations are the most popular features on computing devices such as desktop computers, smartphones and tablets. However, the copy-and-paste operations are not sufficiently addressed on the Augmented Reality (AR) smartglasses designated for real-time interaction with texts in physical environments. This paper proposes two system solutions, namely Granularity Scrolling (GS) and Two Ends (TE), for the copy-and-paste operations on AR smartglasses. By leveraging a thumb-size button on a touch-sensitive and pressure-sensitive surface, both the multi-step solutions can capture the target texts through indirect manipulation and subsequently enables the copy-and-paste operations. Based on the system solutions, we implemented an experimental prototype named Press-n-Paste (PnP). After the eight-session evaluation capturing 1,296 copy-and-paste operations, 18 participants with GS and TE achieve the peak performance of 17,574 ms and 13,951 ms per copy-and-paste operation, with 93.21% and 98.15% accuracy rates respectively, which are as good as the commercial solutions using direct manipulation on touchscreen devices. The user footprints also show that PnP has a distinctive feature of miniaturized interaction area within 12.65 mm∗14.48 mm. PnP not only proves the feasibility of copy-and-paste operations with the flexibility of various granularities on AR smartglasses, but also gives significant implications to the design space of pressure widgets as well as the input design on smart wearables.

Smartphones are widely accessed by all genders, ages, and statuses with the increasing use rate of older adults. When people grow up to older adults, they meet physical declines such as blurred vision, tremor in hands, and arms, slowness of movement, or postural of a humpback. These age-related conditions affect how they live and use the smartphone. However, some seldom go out for older adults' activities due to their physical impairment and diseases. They might have lower competencies than normal older adults. In this article, the test was conducted on 26 homebound older adults. The current investigation was concerned with their competencies of vision, hearing, touching, and memorizing to find appropriate average results for them. We found the scores value regarding font size, color contrast, icon size, a touching point on each button on the screen, keyboard's size, scrolling area, etc., which they can perform effectively on the smartphone. The main findings render a significant and unique contribution to the design community to use it as a guideline or standard for every designer who wants to design assisted technology by using a touch screen interface for home-bound older adults to conveniently access and efficiently use. Further, it also helps to improve the quality of life among older adults.

A growing body of work has highlighted the important role that Wikipedia's volunteer-created content plays in helping search engines achieve their core goal of addressing the information needs of hundreds of millions of people. In this paper, we report the results of an investigation into the incidence of Wikipedia links in search engine results pages (SERPs). Our results extend prior work by considering three U.S. search engines, simulating both mobile and desktop devices, and using a spatial analysis approach designed to study modern SERPs that are no longer just "ten blue links". We find that Wikipedia links are extremely common in important search contexts, appearing in 67-84% of desktop SERPs for common and trending queries, but less often for medical queries. Furthermore, we observe that Wikipedia links often appear in "Knowledge Panel" SERP elements and are in positions visible to users without scrolling, although Wikipedia appears less often and in less prominent positions on mobile devices. Our findings reinforce the complementary notions that (1) Wikipedia content and research has major impact outside of the Wikipedia domain and (2) powerful technologies like search engines are highly reliant on free content created by volunteers.

The pervasive penetration of mobile smart devices has significantly enriched Internet applications and undoubtedly reshaped the way that users access Internet services. Different from traditional desktop applications, mobile Internet applications require users to input via touch screens and view outputs on the displays with considerably limited size. The significant conflict between the limited-size of touch screens and the richness of online media contents widely exists in dynamic-viewport mobile applications, a class of mobile Internet applications that download contents beyond the user's viewing region (referred to as viewport ). As dynamic-viewport mobile applications usually use HTTP for content downloading, to improve their quality of experience (QoE) and cost efficiency, in this paper, we present a Mobile-Friendly HTTP middleware (MF-HTTP), which can interpret user touch screen inputs and optimize the HTTP downloading of media objects for such applications. We first demystify screen scrolling in mobile operating systems and precisely break down the viewport moving process. We identify the key influential factors for media object downloading and develop an optimal download scheme. Towards building a practical middleware, we further discuss and address the implementation issues in detail. We implement a MF-HTTP prototype based on Android platforms and evaluate the performance of MF-HTTP by conducting concrete case studies on two representative dynamic-viewport mobile applications, namely, web browsing and 360-degree video streaming.

Recent events, including the 2020 Presidential Election and the Insurrection of the U.S. Capitol, have shown us that social media can be used for darker purposes. Hate speech, fake news, and content inciting violence have become the unfortunate norm when scrolling through one’s newsfeed. Platforms have had to face the issue of dealing with objectionable content such as this. Should they leave it there? Should they get rid of it? How do they differentiate between what’s acceptable and what’s not? Are these decisions made consistently and accurately? The bigger questions have become whether social media platforms are removing enough material or removing too much. This Article address the two major methods that social media platforms have used to moderate objectionable content, including the many flaws associated with each. External legal factors including Section 230 and FOSTA-SESTA are discussed as potential motivators for the evolving social media moderating techniques. Additionally, this Article discusses the strengthening hold that app markets such as Apple, Amazon, and Google have over social media platforms and how these relationships directly influence how platforms police content. Finally, alternative methods of moderation are proposed and discussed in relation to the current moderating norms.

The stories that museum objects convey change on social media. This narrative shift is analyzed through the development of social media methods that track the dissemination of the Viking helmet from the Swedish History Museum to personalized YouTube search engine result pages (SERPs). Social media methods are used to compare the narratives and meanings produced on YouTube SERPs with the narratives and meanings sanctioned by the Swedish History Museum. The hermeneutic process at the core of the methodological approach reveals how personalization algorithms targeting user identities through IP addresses influence the meanings of objects, which are mediated and commercialized via social media SERPs. This research demonstrates that personalized search engine result pages have an algorithmic impact on the narratives of objects that counters the social justice goals integral to contemporary museum practices. The meaning curation of museum objects is not customized to individual preferences and identities. Museums advance selected interpretations of objects to endorse a variety of vantage points so that the fixity of identity categories can be questioned.

The authors examine the libraries’ independent calculations and analysis of alternative metrics to determine user-defined relevancy of publications. Logfiles collected by web-servers at users’ accessing e-catalogs may be used for such calculations and analysis. The almetrics’ key advantages as compared to traditional bibliometrics and webometrics are: real-time representation; openness and transparency; coverage of wider non-academic audience; coverage of various sources and research findings. The web-server log-files enable to analyze number of user views of bibliographic records in e-catalog, to rate authors, individual publications and topical queries for a time period. In case of links to full texts, the number of pdf. documents loaded by users and n umber of p ages viewed ( when library computer-based system supports full-text document scrolling mode) may be defined. The authors also discuss specificity of handling log-files for various analysis types: statistical, content addressable, defining sequential sets, clustering. The functionality and table structure of RNPLST’s software module for advanced bibliometric analysis is described. Increasing media choices due to online media diversification ensure that people without any interest in news avoid news media. This obstructs the construction of a shared social reality given the presence of politics news seekers and news avoiders. For mitigating these issues using media, incidental exposure to news on the Internet can be a powerful tool because it can bring news to the awareness of people who are politically disinterested. We studied the effects of the glimpsing a news screen for less than a few seconds while watching online television news, termed incidental brief exposure, on news knowledge. For evaluating the effects, we combined the logs of news-watching behavior on an online television (for incidental brief exposure) and the results of a questionnaire survey (for news knowledge and media repertories). We found that this incidental brief exposure mitigated the negative effect of social media usage on news knowledge. Although people with heavy social media usage have low news knowledge, heavy social media users with high frequently incidental brief exposure have more news knowledge than heavy social media users. As a possible scenario, memorizing news keywords due to incidental brief exposure may facilitate reading news related to these keywords when users incidentally encounter news on social media. On the other hand, the exposure did not moderate the effects of news media usage, such as mass media, curation sites, and online news sites. These findings suggest that incidental brief exposure while scrolling through videos, which is hardly noticed by users, enhances passive exposure effects in non-news media, such as social media.

This article approaches the paradigm of binge-watching from within a wider ecology of networked media forms and practices, which have collectively reinforced a relationship between staying home, staying connected, and staying safe during the pandemic. It explores how the short form video platform TikTok has strategically tapped into the pleasures associated with the binge model, in order to construct the nascent concept of binge-scrolling as one means of addressing the thorny problem of lockdown boredom. The piece suggests that the paradigm of bingeing now exists across a spectrum of media forms and practices, operating as one specific means of organizing time and attention in an age of digital psychopolitics.

Some respondents make careless responses due to the “satisficing,” which is an attempt to complete a questionnaire as quickly and easily as possible. To obtain results that reflect a fact, detecting satisficing and excluding the responses with satisficing from the analysis targets are required. One of the devised methods detects satisficing by adding questions that check violations of instructions and inconsistencies. However, this approach may cause respondents to lose their motivation and prompt them to satisficing. Additionally, a deep learning model that automatically answers these questions was reported. This threatens the reliability of the conventional method. To detect careless responses without inserting such screening questions, machine learning (ML) detection using data obtained from answer results was attempted in a previous study, with a detection rate of 55.6%, which is not sufficient from the viewpoint of practicality. Therefore, we hypothesized that a supervised ML model with a higher detection rate could be constructed by using on-screen answering behavior as features. However, (1) no existing questionnaire system can record on-screen answering behavior and (2) even if the answering behavior can be recorded, it is unclear which answering behavior features are associated with satisficing. We developed an answering behavior recording plug-in for LimeSurvey, an online questionnaire system used all over the world, and collected a large amount of data (from 5,692 people) in Japan. Then, a variety of features were examined and generated from answering behavior, and we constructed ML models to detect careless responses. We call this detection method the ML-ABS (ML-based answering behavior scale). Evaluation by cross-validation demonstrated that the detection rate for careless responses was 85.9%, which is much higher than the previous ML method. Among the various features we proposed, we found that reselecting the Likert scale and scrolling particularly contributed to the detection of careless responses.

COVID-19 has spread to various countries and affected many sectors, including education. New challenges arise in universities with study programs related to computer programming, which require a lot of practice. Difficulties encountered when students should setting up the environment needed to carry out programming practices. Furthermore, they should install a text editor called Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to support it. There is various online IDE that supports computer programming. However, students must have an internet connection to use it. After all, many students cannot afford to buy internet quotas to access online learning material during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to these problems, this study compares several online IDEs based on internet data usage and the necessary supporting libraries' availability. In this study, we only compared eleven online IDEs that support the Python programming language, free to access, and do not require logging in. Based on the comparative analysis, three online IDEs have most libraries supported. They are REPL.IT, CODECHEF, and IDEONE. Based on internet data usage, REPL.IT is an online IDE that requires the least transferred data. Moreover, this online IDE also has a user-friendly interface to place the left and right sides' code and output positions. It prevents the user from scrolling to see the results of the code that has been executed. The absence of advertisements also makes this online IDE a more focused appearance. Therefore, REPL.IT is highly recommended for users who have a limited internet quota, primarily to support the learning phase of computer programming during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fluidity of time and space, diverse collection, and personalized recommendations of streaming (OTT players) would mean a lot to a viewer looking for instant entertainment. On the other hand, such transitions from traditional viewing platforms pose a diverse challenge to everyone involved in entertainment productions. The remote select button is replaced with a scrolling option, but the difference is in the platform's 'thinking' or analytical algorithm, which was not part of traditional TV or Cinema hall. This global shift might be beneficial to a few and yet, lowers the number of personnel involved in productions. This is a conceptual paper looking into the interaction between streaming and the entertainment industry labour.

Educational games can provide players with rich learning and socializing experiences through different interac-tion paradigms, such as board games, card games, and, more recently, hybrid (physical-digital) games. However, the process of making, maintaining, and evolving an educational analog game is not a trivial task. Balancing the game mechanics and dynamics to provide a pleasant and educational gaming experience can be very difficult to achieve. Furthermore, adding a digital component in the gameplay can disturb the experience of the game and learning ob-jectives, and this kind of insertion should be evaluated. This work then aims to report the process of developing and evaluating a mobile application for helping the gameplay of a card game that focuses on on teaching software testing concepts. Our primary concern during the development of the application was whether its insertion would compromise the learning process or the social experience of the card game. The developed application has the fol-lowing functionalities: point counter, dice scrolling, timer, and a summary of the rules. We designed and developed a first version of the application. Then, we evaluated the impact of its insertion on gameplay by applying the game assisted with the application with students from Computer Science and Computer Engineering courses and, after the end of the game, the participants answered questionnaires about the players’ experience and their impressions about the application. Based on the results, we perceived that the use of the application provided benefits to the players’ experience, although the evaluation highlighted some opportunities for improvement. Thus, we evolve the mobile application based on the comments gathered in this evaluation. This new version has improvements on user’s interface, aiming to provide a better user experience, and new functionalities. Furthermore, we assessed the second version and compared both versions of the mobile app in order to collect evidence regarding improvements in the game experience.

The presented study is the first retrospective evaluation of the scrolling of the third eyelid in a total of 44 dogs referred to the Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Faculty of Veterinary, Department of Surgery between 2012 and 2021 with a sudden onset of an ocular mass in the medial canthus with epiphora and conjunctival hyperemia. The clinical appearance of the patients, the treatment procedures applied, and the results were examined. A complete ophthalmological inspection revealed the cartilage eversion of the nictitating membrane in sixteen patients (24 eyes) due to the scrolling of the third eyelid and cartilage eversion accompanied by a prolapsed gland in twenty-eight patients (32 eyes). Cartilage eversion was treated by the resection of the defected cartilage portion. In cases with prolapse of the nictitans gland accompanying cartilage eversion, the Morgan pocket method was applied to reposition the prolapsed gland by resectioning the rotating cartilage. In conclusion, -taking into account the potential effect of breed, age, and gender predispositions- the therapeutic approach followed revealed satisfactory results in maintaining the functional capacity of the third eyelid in dogs with cartilage eversion of the nictitating membrane and hyperplasia of the nictitans gland., Bu çalışma, 2012-2021 yılları arasında İstanbul Üniversitesi-Cerrahpaşa, Veteriner Fakültesi Cerrahi Anabilim Dalı Kliniği’ne epifora, konjunktival hiperemi ve medial kantusta aniden ortaya çıkan bir kitle varlığı şikâyeti ile getirilen toplam 44 köpeğin değerlendirildiği ilk retrospektif çalışmadır. Ayrıntılı oftalmolojik muayeneler sonucunda üçüncü göz kapağının kıvrılması ile ilişkili kıkırdağın dışarı dönmesi (16 olgu, 24 göz) ve kıkırdağın dışarı dönmesi ile üçüncü göz kapağı bezinin prolapsusunun (28 olgu, 32 göz) varlığı ortaya çıktı. Kıkırdağın dışarı dönmesi olgularında bozulmuş kıkırdak bölümü uzaklaştırıldı. Kıkırdağın dışarı dönmesine eşlik eden üçüncü göz kapağı bezinin prolapsusu olgularında ise dönen kıkırdağın uzaklaştırılması ile prolabe olan bezin yeniden konumlandırılması için Morgan cep yöntemi uygulandı. Çalışma sonunda elde edilen verilere göre üçüncü göz kapağı ile kıkırdağının dışarı dönmesi ve bu duruma eşlik eden üçüncü göz kapağı bezinin hiperplazisi oluşumunda ırk predispozisyonu, yaş ve cinsiyetin etkisi dikkate alınarak, kullanılan cerrahi yöntemlerin üçüncü göz kapağının fonksiyonunun korunmasında yeterli olduğu belirlendi.

We propose a 3D-printed interface, CAPath, in which conductive contact points are in a grid layout. This structure allows not only specific inputs (e.g., scrolling or pinching) but also general 2D inputs and gestures that fully leverage the "touch surface." We provide the requirements to fabricate the interface and implement a designing system to generate 3D objects in the conductive grid structure. The CAPath interface can be utilized in the uniquely shaped interfaces and opens up further application fields that cannot currently be accessed with existing passive touch extensions. Our contributions also include an evaluation for the recognition accuracy of the touch operations with the implemented interfaces. The results show that our technique is promising to fabricate customizable touch-sensitive interactive objects.

In 5 months of COVID isolation, living out of a suitcase in temporary housing, countless fractal patterns emerged. I can’t say if I created these patterns by looking for them, or that I know the whole world by looking at a grain of sand. The truth of the matter is that it feels like the key for massive scale change is just in front of us, but slipping from our grasp. As we move through these days, weeks, and months, we have very little time before the difference recedes again. I address this matter of concern as a matter of method in performative grounded theory piece.

In this article, we consider the problem of tracking the eye gaze of individuals while they engage in reading. In particular, we develop the ways to accurately track the line being read by an individual using commercially available eye-tracking devices. Such an approach will enable futuristic functionalities, such as comprehension evaluation, interest level detection, and user-assisting applications such as hand-free navigation and automatic scrolling. Furthermore, the proposed approach will pave the way to develop technology that may generate valuable feedback to content makers, such as web designers, authors, educators, and social media users. The existing commercial eye trackers provide an estimated location of the eye-gaze points every few milliseconds. However, these estimated gaze points are not sufficient to quantify reading progression—a specific eye-gaze activity. In this article, we propose algorithms to bridge the commercial gaze tracker outputs and informative eye-gaze patterns while reading. The proposed system consists of Kalman filters and hidden Markov models to parameterize these statistical models and to accurately detect the line being read. The proposed approach is shown to yield an improvement of 27.1% in line detection accuracy over line tracking using estimated eye-gaze points alone by the eye tracker.

Develop and pilot test a simulator that presents ten commonly encountered representative clinical contexts for trainees to learn basic electroencephalogram (EEG) interpretation skills. We created an interactive web-based training simulator that allows self-paced, asynchronous learning and assessment of basic EEG interpretation skills. The simulator uses the information retrieval process via a free-response text box to enhance learning. Ten scenarios were created that present dynamic (scrolling) EEG tracings resembling the clinical setting, followed by questions with free-text answers. The answer was checked against an accepted word/phrase list. The simulator has been used by 76 trainees in total. We report pilot study results from the University of Florida’s neurology residents (N = 24). Total percent correct for each scenario and average percent correct for all scenarios were calculated and correlated with most recent In-training Examination (ITE) and United States Medical License Examination (USMLE) scores. Neurology residents’ mean percent correct scenario scores ranged from 27.1–86.0% with an average scenario score of 61.2% ± 7.7. We showed a moderately strong correlation r = 0.49 between the ITE and the average scenario score. We developed an online interactive EEG interpretation simulator to review basic EEG content and assess interpretation skills using an active retrieval approach. The pilot study showed a moderately strong correlation r = 0.49 between the ITE and the average scenario score. Since the ITE is a measure of clinical practice, this is evidence that the simulator can provide self-directed instruction and shows promise as a tool for assessment of EEG knowledge.

Social media fuel a sense of unsettledness to encourage uninterrupted connectivity and generate quantifiable engagement. This article is concerned with the habitual, naturalized character acquired by these platforms and with how this is paradoxically constructed by prompting a permanent state of anticipation. The aim here is to explore, with a phenomenological sensibility, the experiences that emerge in settings of continuous connectedness from the perspective of the people who use these technologies in the context of everyday life – that is, the ‘users’. Theoretically, the entry point is to revisit the claim of liveness – and its shifting relations with issues of sequential flow and eventfulness – and to position it as a central resource in this process, in which users are deliberately encouraged to expect the unexpected even in ‘non-eventful’ situations. Drawing from the thematic analysis of data collected through the diary-interview method with people who live in London and use a range of social media, I examine both how this urge of continuous connectedness operates and the ambivalent experiences it generates. The findings were categorized into five themes: excitement, anxiety, reassurance, fatigue, and responsibility.

Kinetic typography is widely applied to media such as Film Title,Television Program Title, presentation media, motion graphic media,and others. This article explores the analysis of the use ofkinetic typography in 6 (six) research samples of the winners of theAnimation Category of Indonesia Film Festival - FFI (2013 - 2018).The study was conducted referring to the temporal typographicclassification model developed by Barbara Brownie (2007). Wherein general kinetic typography is divided into two types, namely Typein Motion and Fluid Typography. Type in Motion itself is dividedinto Scrolling Typography and Dynamic Layout. This article presents a study concerning the evaluation of a smart home control system for elderly people with a sample of 10 users in a city in the interior of Brazil. The control system consisted of a prototype using a Web-based mobile application, developed considering requirements obtained from a previous study and recommendations from the literature. The test participants were over 60 years old and had basic experience in the use of smartphones and computers. Success rates in the execution of activities, difficulty levels in carrying out activities, satisfaction, motivation, and control feelings were analyzed. We noted that the application had a satisfactory acceptance level by the participants, showing good results with the tests applied. As main implications for the design, the study showed the importance of clearly identifying the users’ whereabouts in the house in the application, not hiding information under scrolling, using images and videos appropriately in help systems to avoid confusion, limiting the number of windows open to keep context, avoiding unclear interactive elements to favor direct affordances, and proximity on the screen to group rooms and appliances visually. The results from the study can contribute to improving interaction with smart home systems for elderly people, especially in countryside parts of developing countries.

Gait analysis in a virtual environment can provide insight into altered walking performance while visual dual-tasking.\udResearch question\ud\udHow visual dual-tasking including cognitive load of reading text and altered optical flow influences walking speed and stability in healthy adults? Also, is there a relationship between the mediolateral centre of mass(CoM) displacement and mediolateral trunk movement?\udMethods\ud\udNineteen able-bodied young adults performed self-selected walking on a treadmill in a virtual environment under the following three conditions; single-task walking, walking while viewing scrolling lines, and walking while reading text scrolling on the screen. Three-dimensional motion analysis was used to measure the effect of dual-tasking on gait velocity, step length, mediolateral CoM displacement, and mediolateral thorax inclination.\udResults\ud\udThe effect of visual dual-tasking showed significantly increased walking speed and longer step length compared to single-tasking. The cognitive load of reading text while walking had a significant impact on reduced step length variability and greater mediolateral CoM displacement. This was related to the mediolateral thorax inclination.\udSignificance\ud\udA visual dual-task influences gait through altered optical flow and a cognitive load effect. Altered optical flow increased walking speed whilst the visual attention to read text affected foot placement and upright trunk posture, together with greater mediolateral CoM displacement. Thus, dual-tasking of reading text in a virtual environment substantially affected walking stability in healthy young people. This paradigm is therefore useful for assessment of walking stability in daily life and in the clinical setting.

Migration biographies have been used for decades to retell lived migration experiences, however, they only partially represent these experiences. Emergent geospatial technologies can add to migration biographies, creating novel performances and representations of migrants’ experiences. In this paper I reflect on my use of geospatial technologies within biographical interviews to build upon the traditional migration biography. International and domestic migrants to the Maroochy area in Queensland, Australia were interviewed about each of their moves over a lifetime, with their narratives of movement visually represented using Google Earth. I consider how the participants’ interacted with the Google Earth interface as a ‘digital body’, performing their lived experiences of migration. Multiple layers of meaning were produced through mapping migrants’ experiences, requiring a critical, reflexive approach. I then combined the transcribed narratives and mapped migration paths with Google Earth’s satellite imagery as a Qualitative Geographical Information Systems (QualGIS) analysis approach, to create mapped migration biographies. Here, I present excerpts of three migration biographies, and discuss the difficulties and opportunities for the use of QualGIS to represent the participants’ experiences. Digital mapping added mobile, tactile and visual aspects to narratives produced through traditional biographical methods, changing the performance and representation of the migrants’ experiences within the interview. This critical and reflexive evaluation of the method reveals how geospatial technologies can add to the researchers’ toolbox to explore migrants’ lived experiences.

On sait que la lecture d’une BD papier implique un dialogue entre le tabulaire et le linéaire. Alors que la première de ces deux notions renvoie à la spatialisation des images dans le cadre de la page, la seconde désigne la succession syntagmatique des vignettes, c’est-à-dire l’enchaînement consécutif des actions représentées. Le lecteur d’une BD papier oscille ainsi entre une saisie globale/tabulaire de la page, et un déchiffrement linéaire, case à case, du récit. L’objectif de cet article est d’analyser ce qu’il advient du couple linéaire/tabulaire sur support numérique. Notre hypothèse est la suivante : le numérique tend à minorer la tabularité du médium au profit d’une appréhension linéaire du récit. À partir d’une analyse d’ordre sémiologique, centrée sur la distribution des vignettes à l’écran, nous verrons que ce processus de linéarisation permet de distinguer deux grands paradigmes formels : d’une part les scroll-comics, soit les BD à défilement vertical ou horizontal ; d’autre part les BD-diaporamas, lesquelles reposent sur un mode de lecture exclusivement fondé sur le clic. Cela fait, nous montrerons que ces deux paradigmes accueillent en leur sein une grande diversité d’œuvres dissemblables quant à la forme (planches à dérouler usuellement réunies sous l’appellation « BD numérisées », case à case, turbomédia, etc.). Nous décrirons alors comment chacune de ces formes (6 au total : 3 pour les scroll-comics ; 3 pour les BD-diaporamas) privilégie le linéaire au tabulaire et redéfinit, par conséquent, les postures lecturales/interprétatives d’ordinaire associées au neuvième art.

In this article I discuss the method of hand gesture recognition as a visual motion detection based on artificial intelligence by training three main movements namely, scrolling up, scrolling down and stopping based on capturing the front camera image capture speed of 3 fps and measuring its efficiency against the control movements that performed using Hidden-Markov Modeling (HMM) with each catch object scroll up 3 fps / 15 frames scroll down scroll down 3 fps / 15 frames and stop 3 fps / 9 frames, the result is that the most effective hand gesture object training movement is stop gesture with 3 fps / 9 frames because the object's movement is able to be recognized by the system only in the 3rd second image capture frame.

The presentation of radiology exams can be enhanced through the use of dynamic images. Dynamic images differ from static images by the use of animation and are especially useful for depicting real-time activity such as the scrolling or the flow of contrast to enhance pathology. This is generally superior to a collection of static images as a representation of clinical workflow and provides a more robust appreciation of the case in question. Dynamic images can be shared electronically to facilitate teaching, case review, presentation, and sharing of interesting cases to be viewed in detail on a computer or mobile devices for education. The creation of movies or animated images from radiology data has traditionally been challenging based on technological limitations inherent in converting the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standard to other formats or concerns related to the presence of protected health information (PHI). The solution presented here, named Cinebot, allows a simple “one-click” generation of anonymized dynamic movies or animated images within the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) workflow. This approach works across all imaging modalities, including stacked cross-sectional and multi-frame cine formats. Usage statistics over 2 years have shown this method to be well-received and useful throughout our enterprise. This article proposes a new scrolling-text detection method that uses directional coherence for frame rate up-conversion (FRUC). Most previous methods use either gradient information or motion vector (MV) distribution of the frame for scrolling-text detection. Edges can be generated by non-text components and the number of MVs to determine the scrolling-text decreases in each row of the frame. Thus, they incorrectly detect the non-text regions as scrolling-text and cannot accurately detect the start or end of text scrolling at the frame boundary. The proposed method overcomes these problems using coherence values of edge directions for each pixel and scrolling-text-aware refinement processes. The key idea of the proposed method is to use the directional coherence of edge directions and use texture patterns analysis-based refinement to improve the accuracy of the scrolling-text detection. For refinement processes, the proposed method extracts texture patterns as bit codes. Then, it computes the diversity of the texture patterns around the detected text edges. In addition, the proposed method extracts the representative value of the MV for the detected region to correct the regions falsely detected as the scrolling-text. With these refinement processes, the proposed method can also accurately detect the start or end of text scrolling at the frame boundary. In the experimental results, the proposed method increased the average F1 score to 0.504 (a 131.25% improvement) compared with previous methods. The average computation time per pixel of the proposed method also decreased to $18.571~\mu \text{s}$ (an 80.80% reduction) compared with previous methods.

This study investigates whether knowledge gains from news post exposure are different when scrolling through a social media newsfeed on a smartphone compared to a desktop PC. While prior research has mostly focused on new platforms people receive news on (e.g., social media) for political learning, first indications exist that device modality (i.e. exposure on smartphone vs. desktop PC) itself alters news exposure patterns. With the help of mobile eye-tracking, this study investigates cognitive processes that enable learning from exposure among a student sample (n = 122). We extend prior research on the mediating role of attention for learning by investigating whether different frames of political news posts can attenuate this indirect relationship. The study uses a 2 × 2 mixed-subjects design, with the device being a between-subjects condition and news frames (episodic vs thematic) being a within-subjects condition. We find smaller knowledge gains from smartphone news exposure, which cannot be explained by differences in visual attention.

As the number of social media platforms on the market is continuously increasing, concerns and questions about their effects on mental health are also rising. The current study explored the relationship between the problematic use of social media, the absent-minded scrolling behavior, and levels of anxiety. One hundred and fifty-four participants were given an online questionnaire to assess their manners of social media use focusing on the social media scrolling experience and self-reported anxiety levels using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Assessment tool (GAD-7). There were strong and positive relationships between the problematic use of social media platforms and the absent-minded scrolling behavior, with a statistically significant relationship with levels of anxiety. Results indicated that social media scrolling is becoming a problematic habit that helps users escape their reality and avoid problems.

Developing an intelligent robot platform that has multiple motion modes and can actively adjust the motion mode according to an operation situation is necessary in resolving the inability of single-mode robots to adapt completely to complex environments. In this study, we designed a robot that has multiple motion modes and can switch freely in these existing modes. The robot has the following modes: Four-legged walking, two-legged walking, pulse scrolling, and crawler movement. In the robot’s design, these modes are not just simple mechanisms involving superposition and motion switching. These modes involve a degree of freedom in reuse, thereby reducing the number of drives and obtaining a compact structure while achieving a coherent transition of each action mode. For higher load ratios, motion continuity are increased. The robot platform can balance itself during movement by adjusting its own mechanism or providing additional force and change its shape and posture over some obstacles by adjusting its own mechanism.

Reading with central vision loss (CVL), as caused by macular disease, may be enhanced by presenting text using dynamic formats such as horizontally scrolling text or rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP). The rationale for these dynamic text formats is that they can be read while holding gaze away from the text, potentially supporting reading while using the eccentric viewing strategy. This study was designed to evaluate the practice of reading with CVL, with passages of text presented as static sentences, horizontal scrolling sentences, or as single word RSVP. In separate studies, normally sighted participants with a simulated (artificial) central scotoma, controlled by an eye-tracker, or participants with CVL resulting from macular degeneration, read passages of text using the eccentric viewing technique. Comprehension was better overall with scrolling text when reading with a simulated CVL, while RSVP produced lower overall comprehension and high error rates. Analysis of eye movement behaviour showed that participants consistently adopted a strategy of making multiple horizontal saccades on the text itself. Adherence to using eccentric viewing was better with RSVP, but this did not translate into better reading performance. Participants with macular degeneration, and an actual CVL, also showed the highest comprehension and lowest error rates with scrolling text, and the lowest comprehension and highest errors with RSVP. We conclude that scrolling text can support effective reading in people with central vision loss and has potential as a reading aid.

The study of consumer responses to advertising has recently expanded to include the use of eye-tracking to track the gaze of consumers. The calibration and validation of eye-gaze have typically been measured on large screens in static, controlled settings. However, little is known about how precise gaze localizations and eye fixations are on smaller screens such as smartphones, and in moving feed-based conditions, such as those found on social media websites. We tested the precision of eye-tracking fixation detection algorithms relative to raw gaze mapping, in natural scrolling conditions. Our results demonstrate that default fixation detection algorithms normally employed by hardware providers exhibit suboptimal performance on mobile phones. In this paper, we provide a detailed account of how different parameters in eye-tracking software can affect the validity and reliability of critical metrics, such as Percent Seen and Total Fixation Duration. We provide recommendations for producing optimal eye-tracking metrics for content on small screens, such as smartphones, and vertically moving environments, such as a social media feed. The adjustments to the fixation detection algorithm we propose improves the accuracy of Percent Seen by 19% compared to a leading eye-tracking provider's default fixation filter settings. The methodological approach provided in this paper could additionally serve as a framework for assessing the validity of applied neuroscience methods and metrics beyond mobile eye-tracking.

This paper investigates the propagation of estimation errors through a common coning, sculling, and scrolling architecture used in modern-day inertial navigation systems. Coning, sculling, and scrolling corrections often have an unaccounted for effect on the error statistics of inertial measurements used to describe the state and uncertainty propagation for position, velocity, and attitude estimates. Through the development of an error analysis for a set of coning, sculling, and scrolling algorithms, mappings of the measurement and estimation errors through the correction term are adaptively generated. Using the developed mappings, an efficient and consistent propagation of the state and uncertainty, within the multiplicative extended Kalman filter architecture, is achieved. Monte Carlo analysis is performed, and results show that the developed system has favorable attributes when compared to the traditional mechanization.

International audience; When soil remediation specialists clean up a new site, they have a long time manually revising digital reports previously written by other experts, where they look for necessary information in accordance with similar characteristics of polluted fields. Important information lies in tables, graphs, maps, drawings and their associated captions. Therefore, experts have to be able to quickly access these content-rich elements, instead of manually scrolling through each page of entire reports. Since this information is multimodal (image and text) and follows a semantically hierarchical structure, we propose a classification algorithm that takes these two constraints into account. In contrast to existing works using either multimodal system or hierarchical classification model, we explore the combination of state-of-the-art methods from multimodal systems (image and text modalities) and hierarchical classification systems. By this combination, we tackle the constraints of our classification process: small dataset, missing modalities, noisy data, and non-English corpus. Our evaluation shows that the multimodal hierarchical system outperforms the unimodal and that the performance of multimodal system with a joint combination of hierarchical classification and flat classification on different modalities provides promising results.
