The use of a buffer layer in a separation layer containing commercial polyimide or acrylic allows normal laser separation without using special laser irradiation, even if foreign particles (approximately 1 mmΦ) are attached to a glass substrate. A linear laser used for the crystallization of low-temperature polysilicon can be used.

We previously reported a large, seamless, Kawara-type multidisplay formed by overlapping flexible organic light-emitting diode panels, each with two transparent edges. The multidisplay reported in this study creates a more seamless image because of the inclusion of a circular polarizer combined with a flexible panel using an optically isotropic film.

We established a fabrication process of flexible displays, adopting a transfer technology using an inorganic tungsten-separation-layer. Our separation process requires physical force and water. Tungsten oxide over tungsten in the separation layer plays a key role in separation: water injection into the tungsten oxide reduces the force necessary for separation. In this study, a 5.9-inch foldable active-matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) display was developed. A folding test was performed repeatedly. The display survived the folding test (100,000 folds) with a curvature radius of 2 mm. To protect an organic light emitting diode (OLED) against moisture, inorganic passivation layers are provided on the upper and lower sides of the flexible display. Using our transfer technology, high density passivation layers can be obtained. The measured water vapor transmission rate of the layer is 7 × 10−6 g/m2⋅day or less, which improves OLED reliability. With these techniques, we have developed a book-type display, which is repeatedly foldable like a book, and a tri-fold display including a display area, which is foldable in three.

We developed a high-performance 3.4-in. flexible active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display with remarkably high resolution using an oxide semiconductor in a backplane, by applying our transfer technology that utilizes metal separation layers. Using this panel, we also fabricated a prototype of a side-roll display for mobile uses. In these AMOLED displays, a white OLED combined with a color filter was used in order to achieve remarkably high resolution. For the white OLED, a tandem structure in which a phosphorescent emission unit and a fluorescent emission unit are serially connected with an intermediate layer sandwiched between the emission units was employed. Furthermore, revolutionary technologies that enable a reduction in power consumption in both the phosphorescent and fluorescent emission units were introduced to the white tandem OLED.

A new species of the genus Oosternum is described under the name, O.takedai sp.nov. Moreover, O.soricoides d'Orchymont, 1941 is redescribed based on two type specimens. A key to the Japanese species of Oosternum is provided.

In this paper, we report a 3.4-inch flexible top-emitting AMOLED display with remarkably high resolution using oxide TFTs. Our transfer technology has an advantage of fabricating high-performance TFTs and a high-resolution AMOLED Display on a flexible substrate.

We propose a method for reusing artifacts in the analysis phase that employs a knowledge base to realize the efficient development of operation support systems (OSSs). We have studied a method for sequence diagram reuse in the analysis phase, which is an important phase in software development. The reuse method is characterized by unifying the expressive form of artifacts using a task ontology and a domain ontology, and a similarity computation method based on a knowledge base including these ontologies. Furthermore, our evaluation of the method showed that it is effective in reducing the time needed to create the diagrams.

For the efficient development of Operation Support Systems (OSSs), we propose a requirement definition method to help specifiers create high quality specifications easily and quickly. A feature of the method is that it uses requirement definition patterns based on common knowledge. The patterns provide solutions to problems in the definition process and help specifiers. We construct requirement definition patterns for Element / Network Management Systems, such as a pattern with effectiveness to unify sequence diagrams related to system behavior. The method also includes a mechanism to help anyone to use the patterns easily that is characterized in using roles in sequence diagrams. To verify the effectiveness of our proposal, we use two case studies to show that our method has reduced the time needed to create specifications, and has improved their quality.
