Abstract

We analyse the influence of the dynamical environment on the star formation (SF) relations of the dense molecular gas in the starburst (SB) ring of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 1068. We used ALMA to image the emission of the 1-0 transitions of HCN and HCO+ with a resolution of 56 pc. We also used ancillary data of CO(1-0) at a resolution of ~100 pc, and CO(3-2) and its underlying continuum emission at ~40 pc. These observations allow us to probe a range of molecular gas densities (n(H2)~10$^{3-5}cm^{-3}$). The SF rate (SFR) is derived from Pa$\alpha$ line emission imaged by HST/NICMOS. We analysed how SF relations change depending on the choice of aperture sizes and molecular gas tracer. The scatter in the Kennicutt-Schmidt relation is about a factor of two to three lower for the HCN and HCO+ lines compared to CO(1-0) for a common aperture. Correlations lose statistical significance below a critical spatial scale $\approx$300-400 pc. The SF efficiency of the dense molecular gas (SFEdense) shows a scattered distribution as a function of the HCN luminosity (L'(HCN)) around a mean value of $\simeq0.01$Myr$^{-1}$. An alternative prescription for SF relations, linking the SFEdense and the boundedness of the gas measured by the parameter b$\equiv\Sigma$dense/$\sigma^2$, where $\Sigma$dense is the dense molecular gas surface density and $\sigma$ the velocity dispersion, resolves the degeneracy associated with the SFEdense-L'(HCN) plot. We identify two branches in the SFEdense-b plot that correspond to two dynamical environments in the SB ring, which are defined by their proximity to the bar-ring interface region. This region corresponds to the crossing of two density wave resonances, where an increased rate of cloud-cloud collisions would favour an enhanced compression of molecular gas. Our results suggest that galactic dynamics plays a major role in the efficiency of the gas conversion into stars., Comment: 30 pages, 34 figures, 4 tables. Abstract

This paper provides an updated classification of the Kingdom Fungi (including fossil fungi) and fungus-like taxa. Five-hundred and twenty-three (535) notes are provided for newly introduced taxa and for changes that have been made since the previous outline. In the discussion, the latest taxonomic changes in Basidiomycota are provided and the classification of Mycosphaerellales are broadly discussed. Genera listed in Mycosphaerellaceae have been confirmed by DNA sequence analyses, while doubtful genera (DNA sequences being unavailable but traditionally accommodated in Mycosphaerellaceae) are listed in the discussion. 3. The chemical footprint of AGN feedback in the outflowing circumnuclear disk of NGC 1068

Abstract

In the nearby (D=14 Mpc) AGN-starburst composite galaxy NGC 1068, it has been found that the molecular gas in the Circum-nuclear Disk (CND) is outflowing, which is a manifestation of ongoing AGN feedback. The outflowing gas has a large spread of velocities, which likely drive different shock chemistry signatures at different locations in the CND. We perform a multi-line molecular study using two shock tracers, SiO and HNCO, with the aim to determine the gas properties traced by these two species, and explore the possibility of reconstructing the shock history in the CND. Five SiO transitions and three HNCO transitions were imaged at high resolution $0''.5-0''.8$ with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). We performed both LTE and non-LTE radiative transfer analysis coupled with Bayesian inference process in order to characterize the gas properties, such as molecular gas density and gas temperature. We found clear evidence of chemical differentiation between SiO and HNCO, with the SiO/HNCO ratio ranging from greater than one on the east of CND to lower than one on the west side. The non-LTE radiative transfer analysis coupled with Bayesian inference confirms that the gas traced by SiO has different densities - and possibly temperatures - than that traced by HNCO. We find that SiO traces gas affected by fast shocks while the gas traced by HNCO is either just affected by slow shocks or not shocked at all. A distinct differentiation between SiO and HNCO has been revealed in our observations and the further analysis of the gas properties traced by both species, which confirms the results from previous chemical modelings., Accepted for publication in A&A

The current paper presents a plot that includes relevant information for visualizing these patterns. The plot is also dynamic-interactive; so, selecting elements in it permits the highlighting of those that are more relevant according to certain criteria. An example, based on college data, is used for the purposes of illustrating the capabilities of the plot

Abstract

Introducction. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between emotional and behavioral difficulties and suicidal ideation, bullying and cyberbullying, and substance use in adolescents.The sample consisted of a total of 1,664 participants (M=16.12 years, SD=1.36, range 14-19 years, 697 males), selected by stratified random sampling. The instruments used were the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, the Paykel Suicide Scale, the Cyberbullying- Brief Questionnaire, the Modified Substance Consumption Questionnaire, and the Oviedo Infrequency Response Scale.The results showed that 7.7% of adolescents obtained risk scores of poor mental health, and 13.4% would be in the limit score range. In addition, the results indicated that adolescents who showed a possible risk of emotional and behavioral mental health problems also present greater suicidal ideation, behaviors related to bullying and cyberbullying (perception, victimization), and substance use, specifically tobacco and cannabis.These results increase awareness of the importance of adolescents#8217; mental health, improve the training of health professionals and guide the implementation of measures to promote health and reduce the risk factors for suicide, school bullying and of substance use and abuse.

Abstract

La descontaminación selectiva del tracto digestivo (SDD) ha demostrado su eficacia en la prevención de la infección de origen endógeno y en la reducción de la mortalidad en pacientes críticos sometidos a ventilación mecánica prolongada. Los históricos argumentos en contra de su utilización, como son el desarrollo de resistencias bacterianas o la selección de gérmenes resistentes y la ausencia de efecto sobre la mortalidad no se han confirmado. Incluso, los ensayos clínicos más recientes, diseñados para estudiar estas variables, muestran llamativos descensos en la incidencia de bacterias resistentes y reducciones significativas de la mortalidad. Tampoco se han documentado aumentos en la carga de trabajo ni de los costes. En unos pocos estudios de seguimiento a corto y a medio plazo no se ha identificado aumento de las resistencias. La puesta en marcha de un protocolo de SDD requiere motivación y liderazgo para conseguir la participación de varias especialidades del hospital, entrenamiento de varias categorías profesionales y seguimiento de los resultados. Para facilitar el empleo de la SDD en el paciente crítico es necesario que esta medida preventiva sea incluida en las recomendaciones de las sociedades científicas nacionales e internacionales y grupos de trabajo implicados en el cuidado del paciente crítico. La implantación generalizada de SDD en nuestras unidades de cuidados intensivos debe acompañarse de un registro que permita monitorizar el efecto sobre la incidencia de las infecciones y las resistencias bacterianas. Para ello disponemos de una herramienta como el estudio de infección y resistencias en UVI, el ENVIN-HELICS, que cumple todos los requisitos de una programa de vigilancia acreditado desde hace 15 años. Selective decontamination of the digestive tract (SDD) has been proven to prevent infections of endogenous development and reduce mortality in critically ill patients under prolonged mechanical ventilation. Historical arguments against its use, like the development of bacterial resistance or the selection of resistant microorganisms and the absence of influence on mortality have not been confirmed. Moreover, recent clinical trials designed to evaluate these variables, show remarkable reductions in the incidence of resistant bacteria and a significant beneficial effect on mortality. Furthermore, no increases in workload or costs have been documented. A few studies with post-trial and intermediate range follow-up periods didn't find increases in resistance. Implementation of SDD requires motivation and leadership in order to achieve cooperation of other related hospital specialists, training of several categories of healthcare professionals, and continuous monitoring of results. In order to facilitate the use of SDD in the critically ill, this preventive measure should be incorporated in guidelines of national and international scientific societies and working groups involved in the care of the critically ill patient. The general implementation of SDD in our intensive care units must be accompanied by a registry in order to be able to monitor the effect on the incidence of infection and bacterial resistance. For this purpose, the Spanish national ICU infection and resistance surveillance programme ENVIN-HELICS, active over the last 15 years, constitutes both a more than adequate tool, and the convenient reference data base.

Abstract

PROPÓSITO: describir un caso clínico de granulomatosis linfomatoide, y realizar una revisión de la bibliografía existente para conocer mejor dicha enfermedad. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: varón de 27 años con antecedentes de linfoma no Hodgkin B a los 17 años que debuta con insuficiencia respiratoria tras diez años en revisiones periódicas. CONCLUSIONES: la granulomatosis linfomatoide constituye una entidad rara, de mal pronóstico y en la que no se ha definido el mejor tratamiento posible, existiendo diversas posibilidades y siendo necesario un mayor estudio de dicha entidad con el fin de mejorar su pronóstico. PURPOSE: To describe a clinical case of lymphomatoid granulomatosis and to make a review of the existing bibliography for the better knowing of the disease. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A 27 year old man with a history of B-cell lymphoma at he age of 17 years that started with respiratory insufficiency after ten years of periodic checkups. CONCLUSION: Lymphomatoid granulomatosis is a rare entity, with a poor prognosis and a lack of an established treatment. Although different treatments have been applied, further studies are necessary in order to improve its prognosis.

11. A Lightweight Monitoring and Accounting System for LHCb DC'04 Production

Abstract

The LHCb Data Challenge 04 includes the simulation of over 200 M simulated events using distributed computing resources on N sites and extending along 3 months. To achieve this goal a dedicated Production grid (DIRAC) has been deployed. We will present the Job Monitoring and Accounting services developed to follow the status of the production along its way and to evaluate the results at the end of the Data Challenge. The end user connects with a web browser to WEB-SERVER applications showing dynamic reports for a whole set of possible queries. These applications in turn interrogate the Job Monitoring Service of the DIRAC Workload Management system and Accounting Database service by means of dedicated XML-RPC interfaces, querying for the information requested by the user. The reports provide an uniform view of the usage of the computing resources available. All the system components are implemented as a set of cooperating python classes following the design choice of LHCb. The different services are distributed over a number of independent machines. This allows to achieve the scalability level of multiple thousands of concurrent jobs monitored by the system

Abstract

Objetivo: Estudio a largo plazo del modelo de hipertensión portal prehepática en la rata por triple ligadura estenosante portal. Método: En los diferentes estadios evolutivos de la hipertensión portal (1 y1/2, 6, 12 y 14 meses) se realizó un análisis cluster de los animales que permite identificar tres grupos homogéneos (A, B y C) según el peso hepático. Resultados: Los animales con atrofia hepática (grupo C) presentan disminución del peso corporal, esplénico y testicular, así como mayor desarrollo de circulación colateral portosistémica respecto de los grupos A y B. Conclusión: Durante la evolución de la hipertensión portal disminuye de forma progresiva el porcentaje de animales perteneciente al grupo C y aumenta el correspondiente al grupo A, con hepatomegalia, en tanto que el grupo B permanece invariable. Objective: A long-term study of the prehepatic portal hypertension model by triple stenosing ligation of the portal vein in the rat. Method: A cluster analysis of the animals in the different evolutive stages of portal hypertension (1 1/2, 6, 12 and 14 months) has been carried out. This analysis has made it possible to identify three homogeneous groups (A, B and C) in relationship to the liver weight. Results: The animals with liver atrophy (group C) show a decrease of body, splenic and testicular weights as well as a higher development of the portosystemic collateral circulation in relation to the A and B groups. Conclusion: The percentage of animals belonging to the group C decrease progressively during the evolution of portal hypertension and those animals corresponding to the group A, in which is superior the liver weight, increase, while the B group does not change.

Abstract

La presencia de ciertos materiales ferromagnéticos , implantes y aparatos metálicos en el organismo se considera una contraindicación relativa para la práctica de una resonancia magnética nuclear, debido a los riesgos asociados al desplazamiento o dislocación de los mismos al ser atraídos en el campo magnético a que se les somete. Se presenta un resumen sobre los materiales con un riesgo potencial de complicaciones durante la práctica de la resonancia magnética nuclear de la articulación temporomandibular y se destaca la importancia de la detección previa de los mismos mediante la anamnesis y la exploración fisica de los pacientes que precisan dicha técnica. En algunos casos, se precisará asesoramiento especializado.
