7. Estimating the Neovascularity of Human Finger Tendon Through High-Frequency Ultrasound Micro-Doppler Imaging

Neovascularization of injured tendons prolongs the proliferative phase of healing, but prolonged neovascularization may cause improper healing and pain. Currently, ultrasound Doppler imaging is used for measuring the neovascularization of injured tendons (e.g., Achilles tendon). However, the resolution of state-of-the-art clinical ultrasound machines is insufficient for visualizing the neovascularization in finger tendons. In this study, a high-frequency micro-Doppler imaging (HFμDI) based on 40-MHz ultrafast ultrasound imaging was proposed for visualizing the neovascularization in injured finger tendons during multiple rehabilitation phases.The vessel visibility was enhanced through a block-wise singular value decomposition filter and several curvilinear structure enhancement strategies, including the bowler-hat transform and Hessian-based vessel enhancement filtering. HFμDI was verified through small animal kidney and spleen imaging because the related vessel structure patterns of mice are well studied. Five patients with finger tendon injuries underwent HFμDI examination at various rehabilitation phases after surgery (weeks 11-56), and finger function evaluations were performed for comparisons.The results of small animal experiments revealed that the proposed HFμDI provides excellent microvasculature imaging performance; the contrast-to-noise ratio of HFμDI was approximately 15 dB higher than that of the conventional singular value decomposition filter, and the minimum detectable vessel size for mouse kidney was 35 μm without the use of contrast agent. In the human study, neovascularization was clearly observed in injured finger tendons during the early phase of healing (weeks 11-21), but it regressed from week 52 to 56. Finger rehabilitation appears to help reduce neovascularization; neovascular density decreased by approximately 1.8%-8.0% in participants after 4 weeks of rehabilitation.The experimental results verified the performance of HFμDI for microvasculature imaging and its potential for injured finger tendon evaluations.

PURPOSE Deep learning is an emerging reconstruction method for positron emission tomography (PET), which can tackle complex PET corrections in an integrated procedure. This paper optimizes the direct PET reconstruction from sinogram on a long axial field of view (LAFOV) PET. METHODS This paper proposes a novel deep learning architecture to reduce the biases during direct reconstruction from sinograms to images. This architecture is based on an encoder-decoder network, where the perceptual loss is used with pre-trained convolutional layers. It is trained and tested on data of 80 patients acquired from recent Siemens Biograph Vision Quadra long axial FOV (LAFOV) PET/CT. The patients are randomly split into a training dataset of 60 patients, a validation dataset of 10 patients, and a test dataset of 10 patients. The 3D sinograms are converted into 2D sinogram slices and used as input to the network. In addition, the vendor reconstructed images are considered as ground truths. Finally, the proposed method is compared with DeepPET, a benchmark deep learning method for PET reconstruction. 10. CD96 Downregulation Promotes the Immune Response of CD4 T Cells and Associates with Ankylosing Spondylitis

Inhibitory receptors (IRs) play an indispensable role in regulating T cell activation and expansion. This study is aimed at exploring the correlation between IRs and ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Bioinformatics analysis of two datasets (GSE25101 and GSE73754), including 68 AS cases and 36 healthy controls, demonstrated that “T cell receptor signaling pathway” was significantly enriched, and two IRs (CD112R and CD96) were downregulated in AS cases. Real-time Quantitative PCR Detecting System (qPCR) analysis confirmed the decreased expression of CD112R and CD96 in the peripheral blood of AS patients. Flow cytometry demonstrated that the frequency of CD96-positive cells among CD4 T cells in AS patients was significantly reduced and that expressed on the cells was also significantly lower than the healthy controls. In addition, the expression of CD96 was altered on human primary CD4 T cells extracted from 3 healthy volunteers and cocultured with allogeneic dendritic cells (DCs). Also, low expression of CD96 elevated the phosphorylation of ERK in CD4 T cells and increased the level of TNF-α, IL-23, IL-17A, IL-6, and IFN-γ in the cell culture supernatant. These results suggested that CD96 is crucial for the pathogenesis of AS and may be a potential target in the treatment of the disease.

11. VTSNN: a virtual temporal spiking neural network

Spiking neural networks (SNNs) have recently demonstrated outstanding performance in a variety of high-level tasks, such as image classification. However, advancements in the field of low-level assignments, such as image reconstruction, are rare. This may be due to the lack of promising image encoding techniques and corresponding neuromorphic devices designed specifically for SNN-based low-level vision problems. This paper begins by proposing a simple yet effective undistorted weighted-encoding-decoding technique, which primarily consists of an Undistorted Weighted-Encoding (UWE) and an Undistorted Weighted-Decoding (UWD). The former aims to convert a gray image into spike sequences for effective SNN learning, while the latter converts spike sequences back into images. Then, we design a new SNN training strategy, known as Independent-Temporal Backpropagation (ITBP) to avoid complex loss propagation in spatial and temporal dimensions, and experiments show that ITBP is superior to Spatio-Temporal Backpropagation (STBP). Finally, a so-called Virtual Temporal SNN (VTSNN) is formulated by incorporating the above-mentioned approaches into U-net network architecture, fully utilizing the potent multiscale representation capability. Experimental results on several commonly used datasets such as MNIST, F-MNIST, and CIFAR10 demonstrate that the proposed method produces competitive noise-removal performance extremely which is superior to the existing work. Compared to ANN with the same architecture, VTSNN has a greater chance of achieving superiority while consuming ~1/274 of the energy. Specifically, using the given encoding-decoding strategy, a simple neuromorphic circuit could be easily constructed to maximize this low-carbon strategy.

12. A High-gain, Low-profile Filtering Antenna Based on a Novel Metasurface

In this paper, a filtering antenna based on a metasurface is designed using slot-coupled feeding, and the metasurface unit is a fractal pattern. Replacing the rectangular patch on the metasurface with a fractal patch can introduce a radiation zero point on the upper sideband of the antenna, thereby enhancing the sideband selectivity. In addition, the current is reversed by loading shorting pin, and a radiation zero point is also introduced in the lower sideband. After measurement, the -10 dB impedance bandwidth of the filtering antenna is 23.6% (3.22-4.08 GHz), and the average antenna gain in the passband is 8.1 dBi. The filtering antenna does not involve an additional filter circuit, has a simple structure, and a small size, and ideally eliminates insertion loss. To verify, the real object was made and tested and found that the reflection coefficient, pattern, gain, etc. were in good agreement with the simulation results, it can be applied to the 5G communication frequency band.

13. Network analysis of the relationships between problematic smartphone use and anxiety, and depression in a sample of Chinese college students

BackgroundProblematic smartphone use (PSU) is associated with both anxiety and depression. However, the relationships between components of PSU and symptoms of anxiety or depression have not been investigated. Hence, the aim of this study was to closely examine the relationships between PSU and anxiety and depression to identify the pathological mechanisms underpinning those relationships. A second aim was to identify important bridge nodes to identify potential targets for intervention.MethodsSymptom-level network structures of PSU and anxiety, and PSU and depression were constructed to investigate the connections between the variables and evaluate the bridge expected influence (BEI) of each node. Network analysis using data from 325 Chinese healthy college students was performed.ResultsFive strongest edges appeared within the communities in both the PSU-anxiety and PSU-depression networks. The “Withdrawal” component had more connections with symptoms of anxiety or depression than any other PSU node. In particular, the edges between “Withdrawal” and “Restlessness” and between “Withdrawal” and “Concentration difficulties” were the strongest cross-community edges in the PSU-anxiety network and PSU-depression network, respectively. Furthermore, “Withdrawal” had the highest BEI in the PSU community in both networks.ConclusionsThese findings provide preliminary evidence of the pathological pathways linking PSU with anxiety and depression, with “Withdrawal” linking PSU with both anxiety and depression. Hence, “Withdrawal” may be a potential target for preventing and intervening in cases of anxiety or depression.

14. Identification of serum exosomal metabolomic and proteomic profiles for remote ischemic preconditioning

Background Remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) refers to a brief episode of exposure to potential adverse stimulation and prevents injury during subsequent exposure. RIPC has been shown to increase tolerance to ischemic injury and improve cerebral perfusion status. Exosomes have a variety of activities, such as remodeling the extracellular matrix and transmitting signals to other cells. This study aimed to investigate the potential molecular mechanism of RIPC-mediated neuroprotection. Methods Sixty adult male military personnel participants were divided into the control group (n = 30) and the RIPC group (n = 30). We analyzed the differential metabolites and proteins in the serum exosomes of RIPC participants and control subjects. Results Eighty-seven differentially expressed serum exosomal metabolites were found between the RIPC and control groups, which were enriched in pathways related to tyrosine metabolism, sphingolipid metabolism, serotonergic synapses, and multiple neurodegeneration diseases. In addition, there were 75 differentially expressed exosomal proteins between RIPC participants and controls, which involved the regulation of insulin-like growth factor (IGF) transport, neutrophil degranulation, vesicle-mediated transport, etc. Furthermore, we found differentially expressed theobromine, cyclo gly-pro, hemopexin (HPX), and apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), which are associated with neuroprotective benefits in ischemia/reperfusion injury. In addition, five potential metabolite biomarkers, including ethyl salicylate, ethionamide, piperic acid, 2, 6-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxymethylphenol and zerumbone, that separated RIPC from control individuals were identified. Conclusion Our data suggest that serum exosomal metabolites are promising biomarkers for RIPC, and our results provide a rich dataset and framework for future analyses of cerebral ischemia‒reperfusion injury under ischemia/reperfusion conditions.

15. Validation of the neural network for 3D photon radiation field reconstruction under various source distributions

Introduction: This paper proposes a five-layer fully connected neural network for predicting radiation parameters in a radiation space based on detector readings.Methods: The network is trained and tested using gamma flux values from individual detector positions as input, and is used to predict the gamma radiation field in 3D space under different source term distributions. The method is evaluated using the mean percentage change error (PCT) for the test set under different source term distributions.Results: The results show that the neural network method can accurately predict radiation parameters with an average PCT error range of 0.53% to 3.11%, within the given measurement input error range of ± 10%. The method also demonstrates its ability to directly reconstruct the 3D radiation field with some simple source terms.Discussion: The proposed method has practical value in real operations within radiation spaces, and can be used to improve the accuracy and efficiency of predicting radiation parameters. Further research could explore the use of more complex source term distributions and the integration of other types of sensors for improved accuracy.

16. Degradation Behavior of 3D-Printed Residue of Astragalus Particle/Poly(Lactic Acid) Biocomposites under Soil Conditions

Astragalus is widely cultivated in China, and the residue of Astragalus particles (ARP) can be used as reinforcements in fused filament-fabricated (FFF) natural fiber/Poly(lactic acid)(PLA) biocomposites. To clarify the degradation behavior of such biocomposites, 3D-printed 11 wt% ARP/PLA samples were buried in soil, and the effects of soil burial duration on the physical appearance, weight, flexural properties, morphology, thermal stability, melting, and crystallization properties were investigated. At the same time, 3D-printed PLA was chosen as a reference. The results showed that, with prolonged soil burial, the transparency of PLA decreased (but not obviously), while the surface photographs of ARP/PLA became gray with some black spots and crevices; especially after 60 days, the color of the samples became extremely heterogeneous. After soil burial, the weight, flexural strength, and flexural modulus of the printed samples all reduced, and greater losses happened to ARP/PLA pieces than pure PLA. With an increase in soil burial time, the glass transition, cold crystallization, and melting temperatures, as well as the thermal stability of PLA and ARP/PLA samples, all increased gradually. Additionally, soil burial had a greater effect on the thermal properties of ARP/PLA. The results showed that the degradation behavior of ARP/PLA was more significantly affected by soil burial than the behavior of PLA. Additionally, ARP/PLA more easily degraded in soil than PLA.

17. First report of Fusarium tricinctum Species complex causing root rot of tobacco in China

Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) is an economically important crop in China. In June 2021, a root rot disease was observed on tobacco (cv. Yunyan99) in Lushi, Mianchi, and Luoning counties of western Henan, China. Diseased tobacco plants exhibited wilting with leaf chlorosis and root rot accompanied by purplish to brown vascular discoloration. The symptoms were observed in four surveyed fields, 57 ha in total, and disease incidence ranged from 21 to 56%. Five symptomatic plants with leaf chlorosis and root rot were randomly collected from each field for pathogen isolation. Tissue pieces from diseased roots were surface sterilized in 75% ethanol for 30 s then rinsed with sterile distilled water three times, air dried, and placed onto potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium. Five isolates, SL1, SL2, SL3, LN and KC, were purified by single-spore culturing. On PDA, colonies grew at a rate of 2-5 mm/day and produced abundant cottony, white to pink aerial mycelia and rose pigment on the reverse side of the culture plate. From 7-day-old cultures grown on carnation leaf agar (CLA), macroconidia were straight to subarcuate, with blunt and slightly hooked apical and basal cells, had three to four septa, measured 23.4 to 44.6×3.5 to 4.2 μm (n=30). Cylindrical, napiform or oval microconidia were one to two-celled, measuring 6.3 to 22.9×2.2 to 4.9 μm (n=30). Spherical chlamydospores were intercalary or terminal, in chains. Such characteristics resembled those of the Fusarium tricinctum species comples (FTSC; Batra and Lichtwardt 1962; Leslie and Summerell 2006). To confirm the morphological diagnosis, the genomic DNA of the isolates were extracted, the translation elongation factor 1-alpha (EF-1α), RNA polymerase I largest subunit (RPB1) and second largest subunit (RPB2) genes were amplified with primers EF1/EF2, F5/G2R and 5f2/7cr respectively (O’Donnell et al. 2010), and sequenced. Maximum likelihood analysis was carried out using MEGA 7. Sequences were 97.55% to 100% identical to corresponding DNA sequences of FTSC based on GenBank and Fusarium MLST BLASTn analysis, and deposited in GenBank (ON637268.1-ON637272.1, ON637275.1-ON637279.1, ON637282.1-ON637286.1). Based on the morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis, the isolates were identified as F. acuminatum (SL1, SL2, SL3 and LN; Senatore et al. 2021) and F. reticulatum (KC; Moreira et al. 2019). Koch’s postulates were conducted to verify the pathogenicity of individual isolates. The four-leaf stage healthy tobacco seedlings (Yunyan99, n=30) were inoculated by pouring 20 mL conidial suspension (1×107 conidia/mL) around the rhizosphere. Control seedlings were inoculated with sterilized water (n=30). All the treatments were maintained under greenhouse conditions with a 12-h light/dark photoperiod at 25±0.5℃ and 70% relative humidity for 30 days. The assay was conducted three times. Foliage chlorosis and root rot were observed on the inoculated tobacco seedlings, whereas the control seedlings remained asymptomatic after 30 days. The pathogens were reisolated from the necrotic tissue from all inoculated seedlings and were identified by sequencing partial EF-1α and RPB2 genes. Fusarium tricinctum species complex are known as an important causal of cereals Fusarium Head Blight (FHB; Laraba, et al. 2022). In China, F. acuminatum can also infect herb plants and fruits, such as Angelica sinensis, Schisandra chinensis (Ma et al. 2022; Shen et al. 2021). To our knowledge, this is the first report of root rot on tobacco caused by FTSC members in China as well as the world. This finding expands the host range known for FTSC and will be helpful for developing effective control strategies of tobacco root rot.

18. Influence of Self-efficacy on Pilots’ Capability to Handle Special Situations: A Moderated Mediation Model

Objective This study aimed to explore the mediating and moderating effects of resilience and perseverance on pilots’ self-efficacy and capability of handling special situations. Methods Using cluster sampling, 251 pilots’ self-efficacy, special flight situation handling capability, resilience and perseverance were assessed using standardized scales. Results Pilots with high self-efficacy can improve their resilience to enhance their capability to handle special situations. An analysis was performed that included perseverance in the mediation model, and results showed that the influence of self-efficacy on special situation handling through resilience was moderated by perseverance. Conclusion The relations between self-efficacy and special flight situation handling capability present a moderated mediation model. A pilot’s capability of handling special situations, ensuring flight safety and combat capability may be enhanced by improving their self-efficacy, resilience, and perseverance.

A new oleanane-type triterpene, ardisiapunine A (1), together with eight known compounds were isolated from the roots of Ardisia lindleyana D.Dietr. Their chemical structures were determined by means of spectroscopic methods including HR-ESI-MS and (1 D, 2 D) NMR data. The absolute configuration of compound 1 was established by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiment. The new compound is an unusual oleanane-type triterpene bearing an acetal and a C-13—C-18 double bond. The cytotoxicity of all isolated compounds were evaluated using four human cancer cell lines, including A549, HepG2, HeLa and U87. The new compound 1 and compound 2 were weakly active but the known compound 6 exhibited a high cytotoxicity compared to cisplatin.

23. DocFlow: A Visual Analytics System for Question-based Document Retrieval and Categorization

A systematic review (SR) is essential with up-to-date research evidence to support clinical decisions and practices. However, the growing literature volume makes it challenging for SR reviewers and clinicians to discover useful information efficiently. Many human-in-the-loop information retrieval approaches (HIR) have been proposed to rank documents semantically similar to users' queries and provide interactive visualizations to facilitate document retrieval. Given that the queries are mainly composed of keywords and keyphrases retrieving documents that are semantically similar to a query does not necessarily respond to the clinician's need. Clinicians still have to review many documents to find the solution. The problem motivates us to develop a visual analytics system, DocFlow, to facilitate information-seeking. One of the features of our DocFlow is accepting natural language questions. The detailed description enables retrieving documents that can answer users' questions. Additionally, clinicians often categorize documents based on their backgrounds and with different purposes (e.g., populations, treatments). Since the criteria are unknown and cannot be pre-defined in advance, existing methods can only achieve categorization by considering the entire information in documents. In contrast, by locating answers in each document, our DocFlow can intelligently categorize documents based on users' questions. The second feature of our DocFlow is a flexible interface where users can arrange a sequence of questions to customize their rules for document retrieval and categorization. The two features of this visual analytics system support a flexible information-seeking process. The case studies and the feedback from domain experts demonstrate the usefulness and effectiveness of our DocFlow.

25. The military occupational stress response scale: Development, reliability, and validity

Soldiers in the military are exposed to numerous stressors, including some that are of an extreme nature. The main objective of this military psychology research study was to evaluate soldiers' occupational stress. Even though several tools have been developed to measure stress in this population, to date, none have focused on occupational stress. Hence, we developed the Military Occupational Stress Response Scale (MOSRS) to provide a tool to objectively measure soldiers' occupational stress responses. An initial pool of 27 items was assembled from the literature, existing instruments, and interviews with soldiers. Of those 27, 17 were included in the MOSRS. The scale was subsequently completed by soldiers from one military region, and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis were conducted using Mplus8.3 and IBM SPSS 28.0 software, respectively. A total of 847 officers and soldiers were selected for scale testing, and 670 subjects were retained after data cleaning and screening according to the set criteria. After performing the Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin (KMO) and Bartlett's test, principal components analysis (PCA) was appropriate. The PCA yielded a three-factor model (physiological, psychological, and behavioral responses) with the items and factors strongly correlated. The confirmatory factor analysis revealed loads ranging from between 0.499 and 0.878 for each item. The Cronbach's α coefficient of the MOSRS was between 0.710 and 0.900, and the Omega reliability was between 0.714 and 0.898, which were all higher than the critical standard value of 0.7, indicating that the scale has good reliability. Analysis of the discrimination validity of each dimension revealed that the scale has good discrimination validity. The MOSRS demonstrated sound psychometric characteristics with acceptable reliability and validity, suggesting that it could be used to assess occupational stress in military personnel.

27. Effects of Cellulase and Lactic Acid Bacteria on Ensiling Performance and Bacterial Community of Caragana korshinskii Silage

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of cellulase (CE) and lactic acid bacteria (LAB) on Caragana korshinskii silage by analyzing the fermentation parameters, chemical composition, and bacterial community. The Caragana korshinskii was harvested at the fruiting period and treated with cellulase and LAB alone as a control treatment with no additive (CK). The ensiling performance and bacterial community were determined after 3, 7, 15, 30, and 60 days of fermentation process. Compared with the CK group, the pH, dry matter loss, and ammonia nitrogen content were significantly (p < 0.05) decreased in the LAB and CE treatments. Compared with the CK and LAB group, the contents of acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber, and acid detergent lignin in the CE group decreased significantly (p < 0.05), and the water-soluble carbohydrates, acetic acid, and lactic acid concentrations increased significantly (p < 0.05). At the genus level of microorganisms, the addition of cellulase and LAB significantly reduced the microbial diversity. Compared with the CK group (78.05%), the relative abundance of Lactiplantibacillus in the CE group (90.19%) and LAB group (88.40%) significantly (p < 0.05) increased. The relative abundance of Pediococcus in the CE group (3.66%) and LAB group (2.14%) was significantly (p < 0.05) lower than that in the CK group (14.73%). Predicted functional profiling of 16S rRNA genes revealed that the addition of cellulase and LAB increased the pyruvate metabolic pathway during Caragana korshinskii silage, thereby increasing the accumulation of lactic acid concentration. The addition of cellulase expressed a better advantage in the biosynthetic capacity of lysine. In summary, the addition of cellulase and LAB could adjust the bacterial community to improve the silage quality of Caragana korshinskii, and the addition of cellulase exhibited better results than the LAB additives.

Phantoms of different sizes, as indicated by several studies, have a significant impact on the accuracy of dose calculations. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a body-size-dependent series of Chinese standing adult phantoms to improve the accuracy of radiation dosimetry. In this study, the Chinese reference polygon-mesh phantoms C R A M _ S / C R A F _ S have been refined and a method for automatically constructing lymph nodes in a mesh phantom has been proposed. Then, based on the refined phantoms, this study has developed 42 anthropometric standing adult computational phantoms, 21 models for each gender, with a height range of 145–185 cm and weight as a function of body mass index corresponding to healthy, overweight and obese. The parameters were extracted from the National Occupational Health Standards (GBZ) document of the People’s Republic of China, which covers more than 90% of the Chinese population. For a given body height and mass, phantoms are scaled in proportion to a factor reflecting the change of adipose tissue and the internal organs. The remainder is adjusted manually to match the target parameters. In addition, the constructed body-size-specific phantoms have been implemented in the in-house THUDose Monte Carlo code to calculate the dose coefficients (DCs) for external photon exposures in the antero-posterior, postero-anterior and right lateral geometries. The results showed that organ DCs varied significantly with body size at low energies ( < 2 M e V ) and high energies ( > 8 M e V ) due to the differences in anatomy. Organ DC differences between a phantom of a given size and a reference phantom vary by up to 40% for the same height and up to 400% for the whole phantom. The influence of body size differences on the DCs demonstrates that the body-size-dependent Chinese adult phantoms hold great promise for a wide range of applications in radiation dosimetry.

32. Indole produced during dysbiosis mediates host–microorganism chemical communication

- Abstract
An imbalance of the gut microbiota, termed dysbiosis, has a substantial impact on host physiology. However, the mechanism by which host deals with gut dysbiosis to maintain fitness remains largely unknown. InC. elegans,E. coli, which is its bacterial diets, proliferates in its intestinal lumen during aging. Here, we demonstrate that progressive intestinal proliferation ofE. coliactivates the transcription factor DAF-16, which is required for maintenance of longevity and organismal fitness in worms with age. DAF-16 up-regulates two lysozymeslys-7andlys-8, thus limiting the bacterial accumulation in the gut of worms during aging. During dysbiosis, the levels of indole produced byE. coliare increased in worms. Indole is involved in the activation of DAF-16 by TRPA-1 in neurons of worms. Our finding demonstrates that indole functions as a microbial signal of gut dysbiosis to promote fitness of the host.

Offshore oil and gas field development consumes quantities of electricity, which is usually provided by gas turbines. In order to alleviate the emission reduction pressure and the increasing pressure of energy saving, governments of the world have been promoting the reform of oil and gas fields for years. Nowadays, environmentally friendly alternatives to provide electricity are hotspots, such as the integration of traditional energy and renewable energy. However, the determination of system with great environmental and economic benefits is still controversial. This paper proposed a wind–hydrogen–natural gas nexus (WHNGN) system for sustainable offshore oil and gas fields development. Combining the optimization model with the techno-economic evaluation model, a comprehensive evaluation framework is established for techno-economic feasibility analysis. In addition to WHNGN system, another two systems are designed for comparison, including the traditional energy supply (TES) system and wind–natural gas nexus (WNGN) system. An offshore production platforms in Bohai Bay in China is taken as a case, and the results indicate that: (i) WNGN and WHNGN systems have significant economic benefits, total investment is decreased by 5,190 and 5,020 million $ respectively, and the WHNGN system increases 4,174 million $ profit; (ii) WNGN and WHNGN systems have significant environmental benefits, annual carbon emission is decreased by 15 and 40.2 million kg respectively; (iii) the system can be ranked by economic benefits as follows: WHNGN > WNGN > TES; and (iV) the WHNGN system is more advantageous in areas with high hydrogen and natural gas sales prices, such as China, Kazakhstan, Turkey, India, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Since its establishment in 2018, the Young Generation Network (YGN) has been dedicated, with support of the International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA), to a variety of activities to promote communication, collaboration and professional development of students and young professionals in the area of radiation protection and its allied fields. This article reports our recent activities from the middle of 2018 to the beginning of 2021, with highlights on some important events: “Joint JHPS-SRP-KARP Workshop of Young Generation Network” (December 2019 in Japan);contribution to “Nuclear Energy Agency Workshop on Optimization: Rethinking the Art of Reasonable” (January 2020 in Portugal);survey on the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on radiation protection among IRPA YGN members (March 2020);and contribution to IRPA15 (15th International Congress of the IRPA;January–February 2021, online). The discussion and insight obtained from each activity are also summarized. The IRPA YGN will aim to achieve its on-going activities and continue to follow the ways paved in the Strategic Agenda and despite the challenges raised by the COVID-19 pandemic. Namely, running an international survey (for example, on the usage of social media in radiation protection, and on the long-term consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic), engaging national YGNs, extending the network, finding new relationships with networks with an interest in the young generation and participation in (remote) events will be aspired for. 36. PhraseMap: Attention-Based Keyphrases Recommendation for Information Seeking

Many Information Retrieval (IR) approaches have been proposed to extract relevant information from a large corpus. Among these methods, phrase-based retrieval methods have been proven to capture more concrete and concise information than word-based and paragraph-based methods. However, due to the complex relationship among phrases and a lack of proper visual guidance, achieving user-driven interactive information-seeking and retrieval remains challenging. In this study, we present a visual analytic approach for users to seek information from an extensive collection of documents efficiently. The main component of our approach is a PhraseMap, where nodes and edges represent the extracted keyphrases and their relationships, respectively, from a large corpus. To build the PhraseMap, we extract keyphrases from each document and link the phrases according to word attention determined using modern language models, i.e., BERT. As can be imagined, the graph is complex due to the extensive volume of information and the massive amount of relationships. Therefore, we develop a navigation algorithm to facilitate information seeking. It includes (1) a question-answering (QA) model to identify phrases related to users' queries and (2) updating relevant phrases based on users' feedback. To better present the PhraseMap, we introduce a resource-controlled self-organizing map (RC-SOM) to evenly and regularly display phrases on grid cells while expecting phrases with similar semantics to stay close in the visualization. To evaluate our approach, we conducted case studies with three domain experts in diverse literature. The results and feedback demonstrate its effectiveness, usability, and intelligence.

38. Preoperative CA19-9 and GGT ratio as a prognostic indicator in ampullary carcinoma

Background and aims In recent years, more and more inflammatory indicators have been studied to predict the long-term survival of patients with ampullary carcinoma (AC) after radical resection, but these prognostic indicators are still controversial. Therefore, based on previous inflammation scores, this study established a novel, easily accessible, more feasible and more predictive prognostic marker [Carbohydrate antigen199 to gamma-glutamyltransferase ratio (CA19-9/GGT)] to better assess the prognostic significance in AC patients undergoing radical resection. Methods Overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) were analyzed by Cox regression model. Correlation between CA19-9/GGT and clinicopathological variables were analyzed by Chi-squared test, Fisher ' s exact test, independent sample t test and Mann–Whitney U test. The performance of prognostic indexes is compared by the consistency index (C-index). The prediction accuracy of nomogram is further confirmed by calibration curve and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results CA19-9/GGT was an independent risk factor affecting OS [P = 0.001, hazard ratio (HR) 2.459, 95% confidence intervals (CI) 1.450–4.167] and RFS (P = 0.002, HR 2.333, 95% CI 1.371–3.971) in multivariate analysis. The optimal cut-off value of CA19-9/GGT was 0.14. In CA19-9/GGT correlation analysis, high risk group (> 0.14) was significantly associated with poor prognosis. The predictive performance of CA19-9/GGT (OS: C-index = 0.753, RFS: C-index = 0.745) was confirmed to be superior to other prognostic indicators according to the C-index. Compared with the simple AJCC staging system, the Nomogram prediction model (OS: C-index = 0.787, RFS: C-index = 0.795) established by the combination of CA19-9/GGT and AJCC 8th TNM staging system has higher prediction accuracy. Conclusions CA19-9/GGT was an independent prognostic indicator after radical resection of AC. Incorporating CA19-9/GGT into the AJCC TNM staging system optimized the prediction accuracy of the TNM staging system, and further verified the predictive value of CA19-9/GGT.

39. Hsa_circ_0006988 Promotes Sorafenib Resistance of Hepatocellular Carcinoma by Modulating IGF1 Using miR-15a-5p

Background. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most frequently occurring cancer and contributes to the largest number of cancer-associated deaths worldwide. Recent evidence suggests that circular RNAs (circRNAs), which are critical for HCC etiology and metastasis, are distinctly modulated in HCC. Nevertheless, the underlying mechanism of circRNA-mediated sorafenib resistance (SOR) in HCC is yet to be determined. Methods. The hsa_circ_0006988, IGF1, and miR-15a-5p contents were quantified via ELISA and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), respectively. Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) was used for the IC50 evaluation. Lastly, associations among hsa_circ_0006988, IGF1, and miR-15a-5p were validated through dual-luciferase reporter (DLR) and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assays. Results. Herein, a new circRNA, hsa_circ_0006988, was identified, and its levels were markedly enhanced in SOR-resistant (SOR-R) HCC tissues. Functionally, hsa_circ_0006988 strongly suppressed SOR toxicity in vitro. Our examination of the signaling pathway revealed that hsa_circ_0006988 sequestered miR-15a-5p, a negative modulator of IGF1, thus suggesting that hsa_circ_0006988 deficiency diminished SOR resistance of HCC, and this action utilized the release of excess miR-15a-5p, which suppressed IGF1 levels. Moreover, miR-15a-5p overexpression reversed the hsa_circ_0006988-mediated SOR-R and enhanced IGF1 levels in HCC cells. Conclusion. Hsa_circ_0006988 partly promoted the SOR-R of HCC cells through miR-15a-5p sequestering and upregulation of IGF1 levels.

Purpose Many recommender systems are generally unable to provide accurate recommendations to users with limited interaction history, which is known as the cold-start problem. This issue can be resolved by trivial approaches that select random items or the most popular one to recommend to the new users. However, these methods perform poorly in many cases. This paper aims to explore the problem that how to make accurate recommendations for the new users in cold-start scenarios. Design/methodology/approach In this paper, the authors propose embedded-bandit method, inspired by Word2Vec technique and contextual bandit algorithm. The authors describe user contextual information with item embedding features constructed by Word2Vec. In addition, based on the intelligence measurement model in Crowd Science, the authors propose a new evaluation method to measure the utility of recommendations. Findings The authors introduce Word2Vec technique for constructing user contextual features, which improved the accuracy of recommendations compared to traditional multi-armed bandit problem. Apart from this, using this study’s intelligence measurement model, the utility also outperforms. Practical implications Improving the accuracy of recommendations during the cold-start phase can greatly raise user stickiness and increase user favorability, which in turn contributes to the commercialization of the app. Originality/value The algorithm proposed in this paper reflects that user contextual features can be represented by clicked items embedding vector.

Considering the long length of gas‐insulated transmission lines (GILs), novel methods are required to alleviate the impacts of axial diffusion on decomposition products' monitoring. The diffusion process of two typical decomposition products, SO2 and SO2F2, was studied. During the diffusion experiments, SO2 and SO2F2 were generated by partial discharges. Based on Fick’s law, an axial diffusion model of SO2 and SO2F2 was proposed. By combining the experiment and simulation results, it was found that the diffusion coefficient of SO2 was greater than that of SO2F2. In addition, the concentration variation at different positions would experience some delay and decay in axial direction. The delay and decay were inversely related to the diffusion coefficient and increased with prolongation of the distance. Based on the diffusion characteristics determined, methods for optimising the monitoring positions, correcting concentration, and using the concentration ratio and generation rate were proposed to alleviate the impacts of diffusion. The methods could allow the decomposition products to be monitored in 1 month and reduce the monitoring error to 10% or less. The diffusion model and the methods could be useful for monitoring decomposition products in GILs.

There has been increasing attention on low carbon air transport in recent years due to the environmental impact of air transport. To accelerate low carbon air transport development, various efforts have been made. This study analyzes low carbon air transport development trends using a scientometrics-based data analysis system that evaluates all relevant scientific papers, and explores policy implications. From extensive research on low carbon air transport, literature mining and cluster analysis are conducted to obtain a clear definition for low carbon air transport development trends. Cluster, timeline, and timezone visualizations are used to explore development trends for low carbon air transport with some key topics. The innovation and sustainability for low carbon air transport are evaluated, and then some policy implications are proposed for further development, including properly integrating existing policies, formulating auxiliary policies, and developing forward-looking policies. Examining low carbon air transport based on the analysis system involves a precise observation of air transport development trends and provides policy implications, which could be extended to other transport fields requiring emissions reduction.

Repair of DNA damage induced by ionizing radiation plays an important role in the cell response to ionizing radiation. Radiation-induced DNA damage also activates the p53 system, which determines the fate of cells. The kinetics of repair, which is affected by the cell itself and the complexity of DNA damage, influences the cell response and fate via affecting the p53 system. To mechanistically study the influences of the cell response to different LET radiations, we introduce a new repair module and a p53 system model with NASIC, a Monte Carlo track structure code. The factors determining the kinetics of the double-strand break (DSB) repair are modeled, including the chromosome environment and complexity of DSB. The kinetics of DSB repair is modeled considering the resection-dependent and resection-independent compartments. The p53 system is modeled by simulating the interactions among genes and proteins. With this model, the cell responses to low- and high-LET irradiation are simulated, respectively. It is found that the kinetics of DSB repair greatly affects the cell fate and later biological effects. A large number of DSBs and a slow repair process lead to severe biological consequences. High-LET radiation induces more complex DSBs, which can be repaired by slow processes, subsequently resulting in a longer cycle arrest and, furthermore, apoptosis and more secreting of TGFβ. The Monte Carlo track structure simulation with a more realistic repair module and the p53 system model developed in this study can expand the functions of the NASIC code in simulating mechanical radiobiological effects.

China is the largest producer of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) in the world with an estimated production of 2.4 million ton per year (Berbeć and Matyka 2020). In June 2021, a root disease was observed on tobacco in three surveyed counties (Xiangcheng, Linying and Jiaxian) in central Henan. Diseased plants exhibited leaf chlorosis and brown to purplish vascular discoloration of the taproot and lateral roots. Approximately 10 to 15% of the plants were symptomatic in the nine fields surveyed, representing 60 ha in total. Root segments (0.5 to 1 cm) from ten diseased plants were surface sterilized in 75% ethanol for 30 s followed by rinsing with sterile distilled water three times. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an imaging modality that acquires high-resolution cross-sectional images of living tissues and it has become the standard in ophthalmological diagnoses. However, most quantitative morphological measurements are based on the raw OCT images which are distorted by several mechanisms such as the refraction of probe light in the sample and the scan geometries and thus the analysis of the raw OCT images inevitably induced calculation errors. In this paper, based on Fermat's principle and the concept of inverse light tracing, image distortions due to refraction occurred at tissue boundaries in the whole-eye OCT imaging of mouse by telecentric scanning were corrected. Specially, the mathematical correction models were deducted for each interface, and the high-precision whole-eye image was recovered segment by segment. We conducted phantom and in vivo experiments on mouse and human eyes to verify the distortion correction algorithm, and several parameters of the radius of curvature, thickness of tissues and error, were calculated to quantitatively evaluate the images. Experimental results demonstrated that the method can provide accurate and reliable measurements of whole-eye parameters and thus be a valuable tool for the research and clinical diagnosis.

BackgroundPrior studies have revealed the relationships between impulsivity and social media addiction (SMA) and between impulsivity and problematic smartphone use (PSU) based on total scores on standardized self-report scales. However, there has been a lack of studies exploring how the dimensions of impulsivity and components of SMA or PSU are interrelated. The present study aimed to investigate the structural relationships between the dimensions of impulsivity and components of SMA and PSU and determine the critical bridge node using network analysis.MethodsA total of 325 healthy adults aged 18–36 years participated in the study. SMA and PSU were assessed using the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) and Smartphone Application-Based Addiction Scale (SABAS), respectively. Impulsivity was measured by the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale Version 11 (BIS-11). Network analysis was used to construct an SMA-Impulsivity network and a PSU-Impulsivity network. Bridge centrality (bridge expected influence, BEI) was estimated to identify influential bridge nodes.ResultsIn addition to relationships within each community, network analysis revealed that the dimensions of impulsivity were closely associated with the components of SMA and PSU. Particularly, I2 “motor impulsivity” had a relatively strong connection with SMA3 “mood modification” and SMA4 “relapse” in the SMA-Impulsivity network, and with PSU2 “conflict” and PSU5 “withdrawal” in the PSU-Impulsivity network. Moreover, I2 “motor impulsivity” was identified as the most critical bridge node in both networks.ConclusionThese findings demonstrate potential pathways between different dimensions of impulsivity and the components of SMA and PSU, providing new evidence relevant to understanding the underlying mechanisms that account for how highly impulsive individuals develop SMA and PSU, and highlight the critical bridge node—motor impulsivity—that may be a promising and effective target for the prevention and treatment of SMA and PSU.

Laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSSs) are a universal phenomenon that can be observed on a variety of materials, including metals, semiconductors, and dielectrics, upon irradiation with ultrafast laser pulses. It has found various potential applications in the fields of optics, biologics, and mechatronics due to its efficient and flexible fabrication process and subwavelength quasi-periodic property. However, LIPSSs face the challenge of uniformity control because the formation of micro-/nanostructures induced by ultrafast laser is a complex process involving multiple interacting factors, including laser energy deposition, phase change, light scattering, and instantaneous local changes of material properties and their feedback mechanisms. Recently, there has been some significant progress regarding the control of LIPSS uniformity. In this work, we review recent experimental and methodological advances on this topic from three aspects: 1) laser-induced modified-LIPSS, 2) feedback mechanism of LIPSS formation, and 3) ultrafast laser pulse shaping. This review can stimulate further investigations into the uniformity control of LIPSSs to support and accelerate the industrial applications of uniform LIPSSs.
