In 1961 a pilot public health education research project was begun in Dacca East Pakistan with the goals of developing educational programs and research in educational methods in family planning. Training of the staff for research and field positions has been an integral part of the project. The Dacca Family Growth Study was implemented in 1964 to measure the relative effectiveness of family planning education to men only women only and to both groups. Preliminary findings suggest that education was led to increased use by those persons in the study areas and has even spread to those outside these areas. A rural study and demonstration was conducted in villages outside of Dacca to develop effective methods of educating the villagers and of delivering supplies to them. The tentative results suggest a high level of receptivity to family planning in the rural areas.
