This essay aims to continue to develop the thesis that the welter of political-economic, social, technological, and subjective transformations that characterized the final decades of the 20th century and the first decades of the 21st necessitate a re-thinking of the relationship between social criticism and the critique of political economy. Herein the focus is directed towards the critique of reification and industrial rationalization as developed in the works of Georg Lukács and Cornelius Castoriadis. Drawing on recent phenomenological and psychological analyses of work within contemporary capitalism, I argue for both the historical obsolescence of the critique of reification as it has been traditionally understood and, consequently, the need for novel conceptual responses to the pressing needs of our time.

An application of Generative Diffusion Techniques for the reification of human portraits in artistic paintings is presented. By reification we intend the transformation of the painter’s figurative abstraction into a real human face. The application exploits a recent embedding technique for Denoising Diffusion Implicit Models (DDIM), inverting the generative process and mapping the visible image into its latent representation. In this way, we can first embed the portrait into the latent space, and then use the reverse diffusion model, trained to generate real human faces, to produce the most likely real approximation of the portrait. The actual deployment of the application involves several additional techniques, mostly aimed to automatically identify, align, and crop the relevant portion of the face, and to postprocess the generated reification in order to enhance its quality and to allow a smooth reinsertion in the original painting.

Ce mémoire de recherche-création pose la question de la possibilité d’écrire un scénario de film de fiction narratif féministe. Une position vastement débattue dans la littérature féministe sur le cinéma suggère que le cinéma classique dit mainstream ne peut être investi d’une posture féministe puisque le langage cinématographique qui lui est inhérent participe à l’idéologie patriarcale dominante et réifie les personnages féminins comme objet passif du désir du masculin, figure active dans la narration. Mais qu’en est-il du scénario? La réflexion qui anime ce mémoire interroge le développement du scénario dans le discours et la figure négligée par l’histoire du cinéma (Francke 1994, 3) de la scénariste, puis les fondements de la narration et leur participation à l’idéologie dominante. Finalement, cette réflexion est accompagnée d’un scénario de film de fiction de long-métrage narratif dans lequel une tentative d’inscrire une subjectivité féminine se tisse grâce à une notion de désidentification qui s’avère intrinsèque à certains outils de l’objet de préproduction. A widely debated position in feminist film literature suggests that mainstream cinema cannot be invested with a feminist posture since its inherent cinematic language participates in the dominant patriarchal ideology and reifies female characters as passive objects of desire of the male, active figure in the narrative. But what about the screenplay? The reflection that drives this thesis questions the development of the screenplay in discourse and cinema’s history neglected figure (Francke 1994, 3) of the woman screenwriter, followed by the foundations of narrativity and their participation in the dominant ideology. Finally, this reflection is accompanied by a narrative feature film script in which an attempt to inscribe a female subjectivity is woven through a notion of disidentification that proves intrinsic to certain tools of the pre-production object. Dans cette communication nous proposons de revenir sur une notion sensible et source de confusion dans l'inceste : la séduction, en nous appuyant en particulier sur l'inceste père/fille, lequel forme également le propos du roman de Nabokov, Lolita, qui constitue, à de nombreux égards, une solide étude clinique. Nombre des cas d'inceste auxquels est confrontée dans sa pratique la psychologue clinicienne y trouvent leur pleine expression.

English title: The Bondage of the Press: On the Enforcement of the Capitalist Press and the Metamorphoses of Censorship in 19th Century Germany English abstract The centrepiece of this study is the analysis of Marx's early writings on the freedom of the press in 1842. Marx distinguishes between the external bondage of the press - i.e., censorship -, and the inner bondage defined as the submission of the freedom of the press under the economic freedom. On the basis of Marx's concept, I analyse on the one hand the metamorphoses of censorship in the second half of the long 19th century. On the other hand, I analyse how the inner bondage of the press manifests itself on the basis of the enforcement of the capitalist press and the industrial mass production. Inspired by Marx's critique of political economy, I perceive censorship as a social relation whose manifestations transform along with the metamorphoses of domination and servitude. The first metamorphosis, which I analyse, is the transformation of the bureaucratic pre-censorship into the administrative-material censorship after the failed revolution in 1848. With the former form the feudal class attempted to hold the bourgeoisie at bay. When these two classes realised that they were both threatened by the same dangerous enemy - the working class -, they built a class coalition of the haves against the have-nots. The administrative-material censorship was a defensive means used by that coalition. The last metamorphosis, which I analyse, is the transformation of the administrative-material into the immanent-material censorship which evolved along with the capitalist press and the freedom of the press on the basis of capitalist industrial mass production. My thesis is that censorship, intertwined with domination, was transformed from a personal into an impersonal social relation mediated by things. While the first metamorphosis was a conscious act by the ruling classes, the second metamorphosis took place unconsciously. Its result, the immanent-material censorship, is a part of the mute compulsion of capitalist domination. At this point of the historical development the mute censorship - the external bondage of the press - merges with the inner bondage of submitting the press under capitalist interest. German Abstract Das Kernstück dieser Arbeit bildet die Untersuchung der Schriften zur Pressefreiheit des jungen Marx aus dem Jahr 1842. Marx unterscheidet dort die äußere Unfreiheit der Presse - die Zensur - von der inneren Unfreiheit, die er in der Unterwerfung der Presse- unter die Gewerbefreiheit erkennt. Von Marx' Überlegungen ausgehend wird in den darauf folgenden Kapiteln einerseits untersucht, welche Formwechsel die äußere Unfreiheit der Zensur in der zweiten Hälfte des langen 19. Jahrhunderts vollzog und andererseits analysiert, wie sich mit der Durchsetzung der kapitalistischen Geschäftspresse auf Grundlage der industriellen Massenproduktion die innere Unfreiheit manifestierte. The article is an essay on the critical analysis of one of the fundamental issues of social theory of the 19th - 20th centuries - alienation and its manifestations in modern societies. Alienation is interpreted not in one of its special meanings (such as alienation of labor, etc.), but in the broadest way - as the transformation of products of individual and collective activities into an independent force that subjugates a person and transfers him from the position of the subject to the position of the object of social relations. Such a definition makes alienation a universal feature of social life. However, in different societies and in different historical periods, alienation can have variable specific forms. The historically specific manifestations of alienation in modern societies can be explained by referring to the classical theme of their genesis. The originality of their institutional organization is largely associated with the originality of their culture and spiritual life (in particular, with the radical demarcation between human and nature, subject and object in the modern era). The multifaceted phenomenon of scientific and technical rationality, the product of the post-Renaissance Western-European culture, becomes a source of social realities and practices fraught with alienation. The article illustrates it by a number of examples, including the logic and mechanisms of the capitalist money economy. The author refers to the heritage of world philosophy and social thought, which problematized and conceptualized the considered issues in various ways: the Frankfurt School, existentialist philosophers, pillars of theoretical sociology - Karl Marx and Georg Simmel.

Resumo Buscamos, a partir da revisão teórica em plataformas acadêmicas on-line, apresentar proximidades entre os elementos constituintes da categoria de conhecimento cyberpunk, enfocando sua ficção, e a tecnomodernidade do século XXI, alertando sobre problemáticas decorrentes da dominação tecnológica e do processo de “coisificação” do humano. Para tal empreitada teórica e acessibilidade de leitura, utilizamos exemplos cotidianos e metáforas, elucidando terminologias como ciberespaço, distopia e algoritmos. Concluímos que a antiga ficção cyberpunk “profetizou” quanto à tecnomodernidade que vivenciamos, denunciando a nocividade do uso irrefletido das tecnologias. Também compreendemos que a tecnologia empregada em regimes totalitários guarda semelhanças com a sociedade de controle atual. Podemos, portanto, caminhar para uma sociedade continuamente afirmativa quanto ao avanço tecnológico e seu consumismo, conforme a lógica de maior produção e desempenho, no entanto sem acrescer, necessariamente, ao bem-estar social. Alternativa mais dignificante é trabalharmos nossa potência de negação diante do mau emprego tecnológico, opondo-nos a um presente insustentável e a um futuro mais catastrófico e desigual. Abstract This work sought, from the theoretical review on online academic platforms, to present the proximity between the constituent elements of the cyberpunk knowledge category, focusing on its fiction components, and the 21st century techno-modernity, warning about problems arising from technological domination and the process of “reification” of the human. For this theoretical endeavor, and for increasing the reading accessibility, we used everyday examples and metaphors, elucidating terminologies, such as cyberspace, dystopia, and algorithms. We concluded that the old cyberpunk fiction “prophesied” about the techno-modernity we experience, denouncing the harmfulness of the thoughtless use of technologies. We also understood that the technology used in fictional totalitarian regimes has similarities with the current control society. Therefore, we can move towards a society that is continually affirmative regarding technological advancement and consumerism, according to the logic of greater production and performance. However, without necessarily adding to social welfare. Thus, a more dignified alternative is to work on the power of negation that the society and the individuals have in the face of bad technological employment, opposing an unsustainable present and a more catastrophic and unequal future. Resumen A partir de una revisión teórica en las plataformas académicas en línea, este trabajo pretende presentar la proximidad entre los elementos constitutivos de la categoría de conocimiento ciberpunk enfocándose en su ficción y la tecno-modernidad del siglo XXI, advirtiendo sobre los problemas derivados de la dominación tecnológica y el proceso de “reificación” de lo humano. Para tal esfuerzo teórico y accesibilidad a la lectura, se utilizan ejemplos y metáforas cotidianas, aclarando terminologías como las de ciberespacio, distopía y algoritmos. Se concluye que la vieja ficción ciberpunk “profetizó” la tecno-modernidad que experimentamos, denunciando la nocividad del uso irreflexivo de las tecnologías. También se pudo comprender que la tecnología utilizada por los regímenes totalitarios ficcionales guarda similitudes con la sociedad de control actual. Por lo tanto, es posible avanzar hacia una sociedad que sea continuamente afirmativa respecto al avance tecnológico y al consumismo, de acuerdo con la lógica de mayor producción y rendimiento. Pero esto no aumenta necesariamente el bienestar social. Una alternativa mejor sería trabajar el poder de negación que tiene nuestra sociedad y sus individuos frente al uso inadecuado de la tecnología, oponiéndonos a un presente insostenible y a un futuro más catastrófico y desigual.

IntroductionThe descriptive classification Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is often mistaken for a disease entity that explains the causes of inattentive and hyperactive behaviors, rather than merely describing the existence of such behaviors. The present study examines discourse on ADHD to analyze how authors passively and actively contribute to reification—a fallacy in which a concept is represented as a thing existing on its own.MethodsCritical Discourse Analysis and Qualitative Content Analysis of academic textbooks, scientific articles, websites and videos were used to analyze how ADHD is reified.ResultsThe analyses reveal four ways in which inattentive and restless behaviors are presented as an entity by means of the ADHD classification: language choice, logical fallacies, genetic reductionism, and textual silence. First, language choice, such as medical jargon and metaphors aid in representing ADHD as a disease entity. Second, several logical fallacies do the same, including the relatively unknown “ecological fallacy” that refers to the erroneous belief that average group findings, such as average brain size of groups of those with an ADHD classification, can be applied on an individual level. Third, genetic reductionism is often achieved by overstating the results of twin studies and being silent about the disappointing molecular genetic research. Such textual silence is the last identified mechanism of reification and includes instances in which societal factors that affect the ADHD construct are often omitted from texts, thereby obscuring the extent to which ADHD is a limited heuristic.DiscussionIt is essential that discourse communities do not repeat these four ways of reifying behavior and social relations into an alleged entity with the acronym ADHD. The errors and habits of writing may be epistemologically violent by influencing how laypeople and professionals see children and ultimately how children may come to see themselves in a negative way. Beyond that, if the institutional world shaped to help children is based on misguided assumptions, it may cause them harm and help perpetuate the misguided narrative. To counter the dominant, reifying and medicalizing view, guidelines such as the recently published “Dutch ADHD Psychoeducation Guidelines” might be helpful.

This paper identifies experiential processes through which social structures become taken for granted, termed processes of “structure marginalization”. Passive processes of structure marginalization relegate social structures to the margin of experience without the use of higher-order cognitive acts such as evaluation and reflection. Examples include adapting to social structures via routine and habitual practices (material reification), a lack of conscious awareness of the complexity, historical formation, and other details of social structures (ignorance), and rendering social structures irrelevant when they are unreflectively judged to be of no value for achieving ends (nullification). Active processes of structure marginalization reflectively and discursively relegate social structures to marginal consciousness. Examples include the use of naturalistic and necessitarian explanations for the social order that implicitly justify it as inalterable or “just the way things are” (discursive reification), normative justifications for the status quo (legitimation), and conscious awareness of one’s powerlessness to control social-structural conditions (helplessness). Active processes of structure marginalization originate in passive processes. The goal of the typology is to explain, at the level of experience, why social structures typically remain unproblematic and unnoticed in everyday life, even during periods of social crisis and change or when existing structures produce harmful effects.

The cultural industry in the fashion and cosmetics sector in the digital era is currently experiencing a very fast development and becoming a trend among the public. Promotion on digital social media is so massive and continues to grow along with the rapid industrial growth and socio-cultural changes when people start adapting digital technology with the various platforms used. The cultural industry needs to carry out an endorsement, which is now a trend, in promoting and introducing products to the public. Endorsers often become capitalist objects to be used as tools that can generate profits and as part of the value to increase products. This study uses a qualitative method with a critical ethnographic approach. The results show that endorsers do not only play a single role in their work as endorsers, according to their expertise in maintaining their physical appearance, but are also required to be able to produce visual and audio content to promote vendor’s products on social media. In addition, endorsers are also required to maintain their physical performance and appearance. For endorsers, this is not difficult, so they take the job for granted and consider it as something right, not as a form of violence.

The object of this article are the analyses of the phenomenon of social integration of the proletariat, carried out by Erich Fromm and Max Horkheimer in the 1930s. Besides texts by both authors, the article resorts as well to empirical research conducted in the beginning of the decade within the Frankfurt Institute for Social Research. More specifically, the study on “character structure” of German workers (coordinated by Erich Fromm) is analyzed, being also considered the main results of the studies that had as their objects changes in sexuality and in the authority structure of European family at the time. The article shows how Horkheimer made use of central concepts of Marx’s thought when examining the topics of those studies, resulting in a perspective capable of apprehending ongoing social changes. El objeto de este artículo son los análisis del fenómeno de la integración social del proletariado, realizados por Erich Fromm y Max Horkheimer en los años treinta. Además de los textos de ambos autores, el artículo recurre a las investigaciones empíricas realizadas a principios de la década en el Instituto de Investigación Social de Frankfurt. Más concretamente, se analiza el estudio sobre la “estructura de carácter” de los trabajadores alemanes (coordinado por Erich Fromm), considerándose también los principales resultados de los estudios que tenían como objeto cambios en la sexualidad y en la estructura de autoridad de la familia europea en ese momento. El artículo muestra cómo Horkheimer hizo uso de conceptos centrales del pensamiento de Marx al examinar los temas de esos estudios, dando como resultado una perspectiva capaz de aprehender los cambios sociales en curso. O presente artigo tem por objeto o tratamento dado por Erich Fromm e Max Horkheimer ao fenômeno da integração social do proletariado. Além dos textos de ambos os autores, o artigo recorre às pesquisas empíricas conduzidas no início da década de 1930, no âmbito do Instituto de Pesquisa Social de Frankfurt. Resumen Este artículo vuelve sobre el clásico y complejo concepto de alienación y se propone contribuir a elaborarlo para la filosofía social actual. La idea es ir articulando las propuestas sobre la alienación que han elaborado Rahel Jaeggi y Axel Honneth, desarrolladas a partir de un filósofo presuntamente ajeno a la teoría crítica, a saber, Martín Heidegger, e irnos desligando de estos autores a medida que vamos perfilando el concepto. Pretendemos ofrecer un análisis estructural del concepto que permita identificar ciertos rasgos básicos que después sirvan para elaborar un diagnóstico de las patologías sociales en el mundo contemporáneo. Abstract This article returns to the classic and complex concept of alienation and aims to contribute to its elaboration for today's social philosophy. The idea is to articulate the approaches to alienation developed by Rahel Jaeggi and Axel Honneth, based on a philosopher presumably alien to critical theory, namely Martin Heidegger, and to disassociate ourselves from these authors as we develop the concept. We propose to offer a structural analysis of the concept that will allow us to identify certain basic features that will later serve to elaborate a diagnosis of social pathologies in the contemporary world.

International audience; A key aspect of knowledge work is the analysis and manipulation of sets of related documents. We conducted interviews with 12 patent examiners and 12 scientists and found that all face difficulties using specialized tools for managing text from multiple documents across interconnected activities, including searching, collecting, annotating, organizing, writing and reviewing, while manually tracking their provenance. We introduce Passages, interactive objects that reify text selections and can then be manipulated, reused, and shared across multiple tools. Passages directly supports the above-listed activities as well as fluid transitions among them. Two user studies show that participants found Passages both elegant and powerful, facilitating their work practices and enabling greater reuse and novel strategies for analyzing and composing documents. We argue that Passages offers a general approach applicable to a wide variety of text-based interactions.

Reism or concretism are the labels for a position in ontology and semantics that is represented by various philosophers. As Kazimierz Ajdukiewicz and Jan Woleński have shown, there are two dimensions with which the abstract expression of reism can be made concrete: The ontological dimension of reism says that only things exist; the semantic dimension of reism says that all concepts must be reduced to concrete terms in order to be meaningful. In this paper we argue for the following two theses: (1) Arthur Schopenhauer has advocated a reistic philosophy of language which says that all concepts must ultimately be based on concrete intuition in order to be meaningful. (2) In his semantics, Schopenhauer developed a theory of logic diagrams that can be interpreted by modern means in order to concretize the abstract position of reism. Thus we are not only enhancing Jan Woleński’s list of well-known reists, but we are also adding a diagrammatic dimension to concretism, represented by Schopenhauer.

Resumen. En este artículo reviso las diversas elaboraciones del concepto de totalidad social que podemos encontrar en diferentes momentos de la obra del filósofo marxista Georg Lukács y destaco las concepciones de la praxis de los agentes sociales asociadas a cada una de ellas. Comienzo por analizar este concepto en la obra del joven Lukács, para luego presentar un radical cambio de postura entre las formulaciones que hallamos en Historia y conciencia de clase y Para una ontología del ser social. Mi argumento es que este cambio de perspectiva se asocia a la necesidad teórica de posibilitar una práctica subjetiva que no se encuentre indefectiblemente alienada, tal como parece desprenderse del modelo teórico de la obra lukácsiana de juventud. Finalmente concluyo que esta nueva concepción de la totalidad social habilita un nuevo tipo de práctica emancipatoria, alejada de los dogmatismos partidarios que caracterizaron a buena parte del socialismo del siglo XX. Abstract. In this paper I revisit the different elaborations of the concept of social totality that we can find through various moments of the work of the Marxist philosopher Georg Lukács, focusing on the understanding of the praxis of social agents tied to each of them. I begin with the analysis of this concept in his youth works and then I highlight a radical change of view between the characterizations found in History and class consciousness and Ontology of social being. My argument is that this reconsideration is associated with the theoretical necessity of conceiving a subjective praxis that could avoid alienation, as it seems to occur in the theoretical model of Lukács’ youth work. Finally, I conclude that this new conception of the social totality enables a new kind of emancipatory praxis, far from the party dogmatisms that typify a great part of the twentieth century socialism.

Econometric data are used to produce authoritative facts about the world. Yet, as numbers enjoy a central place in modern reasoning (particularly in government as their presumed objectivity and neutrality assist impartial decision-making), it is important that they receive scrutiny. Using methodological techniques from Western Marxism, with special reference to the work of Lukács, Horkheimer and Adorno, and Marcuse to inform a critique of Acemoglu and Robinson, I argue that the historical emergence of econometrics as a mode of mediated knowledge is a reified practice within the broader technical administration of social life, a practice that is not a transparent representation of social phenomena. This is because when econometrics transforms the thing being measured into a statistical indicator it eclipses political disputes with technical disputes, sidestepping good faith democratic deliberation about what goods are worth pursuing. Effectively, one-dimensional thought cannot perceive the origins of items put into circulation and so ideology is produced – what seems value-free is value-laden.

Am Beispiel eines ethnographischen Projekts zu doing gender in der Kindertageseinrichtung wird in Abgrenzung zu einer Differenzperspektive der Mehrwert einer Forschungsperspektive auf Geschlechterkonstruktionen zur Diskussion gestellt. In dieser Perspektive wird Geschlechterdifferenz nicht vorab als gegeben gesetzt, sondern der Prozess der Geschlechterdifferenzierung empirisch untersucht. 本稿は機械の社会的影響を社会思想的観点から考察するものである。機械が広範な社会的影響を与えることになったのは蒸気機関の普及とともに生じた産業革命以後であるため、本稿はマルクスの機械論を中心に 19 世紀以降の議論を参照し、機械の社会的影響をとりわけ権力との関わりから検討する。ただし本稿は従来の主体化/服従化の権力論ではなく、物理的環境を通じた権力の執行に関してその分析を行い、同時に機械がもたらす物象化の問題に関しても従来とは異なる視点をとり、マルクスとウェーバーの機械論を接合する形で検討を進める。本稿の最後で、機械に関するこれらの考察の成果に基づき人工知能(AI)の社会的影響に関する分析と予測を行う。, This paper uses the context of social philosophy to study the influence of machines on society. The focus is on post-Industrial Revolution machinery developments when mechanized factories driven by steam engines brought about significant social change. Karl Marx provided the basic framework to analyze these changes, especially in relation to power, which enables us to investigate the “principle of machines” for social control, that is, power executed through physical social environments. This type of power cannot be studied through the social thought of “subjection (assujettissement)” and should be analyzed through the idea of “architecture,” as presented by L. Lessig. On the basis of this study, we examine a new interpretation to connect Marx’s and Max Weber’s analysis of machines and the possible problem of objective reification it reveals. In the last section, we consider the predicted influences of artificial intelligence on society using ideas clarified by this paper

Wie nutzlich sind hier Konzepte wie „ziviler Ungehorsam“, „Verzweiflungstat“ und „politischer Protest“; und was bedeutet gemeinsamer Widerstand im Kontext nahezu totaler Beraubung an Moglichkeiten und Rechten? Dafur beschaftigt sich der Text sich mit einer brennenden Zelle in der Schubhaft im Polizeianhaltezentrum Wien Hernals. Mit Hilfe von Interviews mit einem der Gefangenen sowie Beobachtungsprotokollen aus der Gerichtsverhandlungen gegen jene sechs Schubhaftgefangenen, die versuchten ihre Abschiebung durch Inbrandsetzung der Zelle zu verhindern, wird die zynische Verdinglichung von nicht-europaischen „anderen“ als koloniale Kontinuitat und Produktion illegalisierter Arbeitskraft diskutiert. Gegen Verdinglichung und Entrechtlichung wird dann das „billigende Horen“ als Praxis der Forschung wie der Rechtsprechung vorgeschlagen. Mit dem Fokus auf marginalisierte Formen des Widerstands soll die folgende Auseinandersetzung dazu beitragen, uber die Vorstellung von Kollektivitat und Offentlichkeit als vermeintliche Wesenszuge des Widerstands hinauszugehen. A Burning Prison Cell, Violent Reification, and the Common Attempt to Escape Deportation Abstract This article discusses the following questions: Which terms might be helpful to apprehend the resistance of illegalised people against deportation? How useful are concepts like “civil disobedience”, “acts of desperation” and “political protest”? And, what does resistance mean in a context of almost total deprivation of possibilities and rights? In order to address these questions, the article uses the case of a burning prison cell in Vienna, which was used to detain people pending deportation. Through interviews with one of the detainees, as well as through observation protocols from the trail against the six inmates that tried to prevent their deportation through setting their prison cell on fi re, the article discusses the cynical reification of Non-European “others” as a colonial continuity and as performative of an illegalised workforce. Against reification and the denial of rights, the article suggests “endorsing listening” as a practice for both research and jurisdiction. Resistance is often conceptually linked with notions of collectivity and the public sphere. This article shows that marginalised forms of resistance often occur outside of a collectively and/or the public sphere, while resistance that takes place amid reification and the deprivation of rights breaks the dichotomy between desperation and political protest. When discussed in the context of diagnosing or medicating children, psychiatrization is usually portrayed as a more or less monolithic top-down process, which, according to some, enables a child’s right to health, while for others is a form of child abuse. This article challenges these conceptualizations in two steps: First, it draws on available literature on psychiatrization (including its top-down and bottom-up operations, and its ideological and material aspects), and its relationship to various psy-practices, and wider processes of (bio) medicalization, psychologization and reification. Second, using two detailed vignettes from ethnographic research with children and youth in Poland, the article demonstrates that children and youth are not necessarily passive recipients of psychiatrization as they themselves navigate, appropriate, resist, and transform top-down influences. While one vignette details a child’s more or less open resistance to psychiatrization through their attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder label, the other vignette shows young people embracing and positively identifying with bio and psy-knowledge in relation to depression. However, both vignettes show how children and youth make psychiatrization meaningful as it shapes their lifeworlds, with them sometimes becoming agents of psychiatrization themselves. Our data illustrate the nuances of psychiatrization of, with and by children, and we draw on this to complexify existing literature and framings of psychiatrization.

We propose an approach to summarize large semantics graphs using namespaces. Semantic graphs based on the Resource Description Framework (RDF) use namespaces on their serializations. Although these namespaces are not part of RDF semantics, they have intrinsic meaning. Based on this insight, we use namespaces to create summary graphs of reduced size, more amenable to be visualized. In the summarization, object literals are also reduced to their data type and the blank nodes to a group of their own. The visualization created for the summary graph aims to give insight of the original large graph. The idea of the constructed character of social reality implies human contribution to institutional arrangements and cultural patterns that determine the shape of collective existence. The article examines the specific features of social construction seen and studied in phenomenological approach by A. Schutz, P. Berger, Th. Luckmann. The concept reveals significance of daily cognitive style which enables people to structure and understand the world they share with others, escaping situations fraught with gaps of meanings and anomy. The author of the article analyzes the process of social construction, distinguishing it from imaginary building of reality that goes beyond the existed order. Reality of daily life is compared with fictional society represented in J.L. Borges’ “Lottery in Babylon”. Telling about the social construction as it may be, the story demonstrates the similarities between the mental procedures that underlie real and antiutopian (inhuman) routines. The article also centers on peculiarities of phenomenological beholder’s attitude towards sociality. On the one hand, it tends to be free from any theoretical abstractions, imaginary constructions or critical destruction of reality, on the other - inclines to transcend the reified forms of social being and engenders a certain critical message.

The presented article focuses on the analysis of the transposition of a national event into supranational one, the most striking example of which is the confrontation of Real Madrid with FC Barcelona, known as El Clásico. The text will examine the elements used in the process of recasting the event, which are decisive for giving it a meaning beyond the framework of a single country. The hypothesis is as follows: “While still functioning in the Spanish symbolic space, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have transposed the mutual rivalry through permutation of the national event into supranational one, using elements that constitute and determine the specificity of the club. It was possible through reification of identity and orientation towards the idea of social identity”. It indicates the direction of research, which differs from treating this phenomenon only in marketing terms. It also outlines two basic points of reference, focusing the analysis on aspects related to identification issues. These, as will be shown in the text, determine the possibility of emotional involvement of supporters all over the world in experiencing a national holiday such as the confrontation of the Los Blancos and Blaugrana, without having to decode the primordial component which is political and social conflict.

Pour y parvenir, il emploie tout un arsenal idéologique raciste qu e des auteurs comme Gaines s’évertuent d’invalider. En s’appuyant sur une lecture socio sémiotique, cet article explore, dans un premier temps, le discours ségrégationniste visant à réifier le Noir pour ensuite l’écarter du développement social, culturel e t économique. Puis il s’intéresse à la réaction de la communauté noire. Celle ci est d’abord timide vu que les sujets noirs n’opposent pas au langage raciste de la superstructure celui d’une conscience collective militante. Toutefois, en rétablissant l’hom me noir dans sa dignité le tout sur fond de messianisme, Gaines l’anoblit et le débarrasse des préjugés et clichés dégradants.

From the reflections of Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer, this article explores the critique of the technical domination of nature based on instrumental reason as a form of alienation and forgetfulness, the product of a “second nature”that alienates people from their relationship with nature. Uncovering the decisive issue of forgetting nature as a product of the reification of the subject should provide reflective arguments for a better understanding of our current relationship with nature and with ourselves. Adorno y Max Horkheimer este artículo explora la crítica al dominio técnico de la naturaleza basado en la razón instrumental, como una forma de enajenación y olvido, producto de una “segunda naturaleza” que aleja a los hombres de su relación con la misma. Descubrir la cuestión decisivadel olvido de la naturaleza producto de la cosificación del sujeto debería aportar argumentos reflexivos para comprender mejor nuestra relación actual con la naturaleza y con nosotros mismos. A partir des réflexions de Theodor W. Adorno et Max Horkheimer, cet article explore la critique de la domination technique de la nature fondée sur la raison instrumentale, comme forme d’aliénation et d’oubli, produit d’une “seconde nature” qui éloigne les hommes de leur relation avec la nature. International audience; Cet article vise à défendre le lien entre conversion morale et autonomie. Pour cela, nous nous appuierons sur plusieurs perspectives philosophiques et sociologiques qui ont en commun de mettre en avant la capacité de l’individu à rompre avec sa situation morale initiale, que celle-ci soit politique ou religieuse, pour endosser de nouvelles convictions. Nous verrons que trois notions d’origine aussi différente que le changement de Gesinnung chez Kant, l’instant sartrien et l’alternation chez Berger et Luckmann renvoient à un processus de fondation de soi qui marque le choix entre des systèmes de valeurs incommensurables en même temps qu’une prise de position du converti sur son régime d’appartenance. Cela nous conduira à aborder de front le problème de la possibilité, pour un individu, de maîtriser ses convictions les plus profondes et son identité morale au point de pouvoir en changer par un acte de volonté. C’est précisément cet acte que nous définirons comme la décision d’auto-réification constitutive du sujet autonome.

This article establishes the conceptual criteria that allow Honneth to elucidate the idea of reification as a forgetfulness of recognition manifested in forms of contempt that, by revealing the subjection of individuals to situations of violence, dispossession of rights, and dishonor, lead to the need to undertake a struggle for recognition that, framed within normative moral horizons, entails the praxis of love, law, and solidarity as essential spheres to achieve human resignification. En este artículo se establecen los criterios conceptuales que le permiten a Honneth dilucidar la idea de la reificación como un olvido de reconocimiento manifestado en formas de menosprecio que, al develar el sometimiento de individuos a situaciones de violencia, desposesión de derechos y deshonra, conducen hacia la necesidad de emprender una lucha por el reconocimiento que, enmarcado en unos horizontes morales de carácter normativos, conlleven la praxis del amor, el derecho y la solidaridad como esferas imprescindibles para lograr la resignificación humana.

RESUMO Este artigo foca a publicidade de cursos livres de inglês e a recente imposição legal dessa língua nos ensinos fundamental e médio brasileiros. O corpus de referência é composto por cinco anúncios de cursos de idiomas publicados no primeiro semestre de 2017, em uma cidade de Santa Catarina e pela Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Brasileira (Lei nº 9.394/1996). Adicionalmente, contextualizamos a alteração da LDB, juntamente com o desenvolvimento da Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC). Nosso objetivo é problematizar e mostrar como a publicidade de cursos livres de inglês e a alteração da LDB contribuem para uma hierarquia linguística, construindo sócio-historicamente o inglês como língua hegemônica e reificada. A análise dos dados mostra que tanto a publicidade quanto a lei podem desvalorizar o multilinguismo e reforçar a mercantilização de ideais monolíngues referentes ao ensino de inglês. ABSTRACT This paper focuses on the publicity of English courses and the recent legal imposition of the language in Brazilian middle and high schools. The reference corpus consists of five publicity campaigns of English courses displayed during the first semester of 2017 in a city of Santa Catarina state and the text of the recently amended Brazilian educational law (LDB 9,394/1996). In addition, the legal amendment is contextualized along with the development of the national common curriculum (BNCC). Our objective is to problematize and to show how the publicity of English courses and the recent legal amendment contribute to a linguistic hierarchy which socio-historically constructs English as a hegemonic and reified language. Data analysis shows that both the publicity and the law may underestimate the importance of multilingualism and at the same time may strengthen the commodification of monolingual ideals related to English language teaching.

“The Madinah Document” refers to renowned contract that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) prepared as constitution of new Islamic state after hıjrah i.e his flight from Macca to Medinah in 622 AD. This document is very important from the perspective of the history of law, because it is the first written constitution in the World. The first classical source that transported this historical document, is Ibn Hisham’s book named “al-Siratu’n-Nabawiyyah”. The writer quoted it from his teacher Ibn Ishak. In the classical soruces, this record has’nt been not arranged as articles but as a prose. For the first time, the orientalist Welhausen arranged it as 47 articles, and this form has been generalized. But, in my opinion, in this arrangement, there are some inconsistencies which prevent us to understand it correctly. On the other hand, a lot of Turkish studies, which reference to this document, have been taken from Hamidullah’s book named “Le Probhete de l’İslam” whic has been translated by Salih Tuğ from French to Turkish. However, there are some problem in the translation of some articles of the document. We tackled this study so as to attract attention to the problematic ways on the mentioned contradictoriness of that specifying style and translating.

A pesar de que las plantas representan la base para la supervivencia de la vida sobre la Tierra, la Botánica del siglo XXI está pasando por una crisis. El número de estudiantes de Botánica, de cursos de Botánica, de colecciones de plantas, de departamentos de Botánica en las universidades y de botánicos participando de reuniones y convenciones ha ido declinando en los últimos años. En un intento por comprender este problema, se analizan los siguientes temas: el reduccionismo científico, el estado de las colecciones de historia natural, la lógica del mercado aplicada a la ciencia, y el lenguaje como constructor de la realidad. Estos temas se enmarcan dentro de una perspectiva latinoamericana. La ambigüedad del título de esta contribución: ¿cese o propósito?, debería inclinarse hacia el propósito, basándose en el reconocimiento del problema, en la historia de la botánica latinoamericana y en la grandiosa biodiversidad de América Latina. Despite the fact that plants represent the basis for the survival of life on Earth, the Botany of the 21st century is going through a crisis. The number of Botany students, of Botany courses, of plant collections, of Botany departments in universities and of botanists participating in meetings and conventions has been declining in recent years. In an attempt to understand this problem, the following topics are analyzed: scientific reductionism, the state of natural history collections, the logic of the market applied to science, and language as a constructor of reality. These issues are framed within a Latin American perspective. The ambiguity of the title of this contribution: cessation or purpose?, should lean toward the purpose, on the basis of the recognition of the problem, the history of Latin American botany, and the great biodiversity of Latin America. O número de estudantes de botânica, cursos de botânica, coleções de plantas, departamentos de botânica em universidades e botânicos que participam de reuniões e convenções tem diminuído nos últimos anos.
