Precise, reliable, and speedy contamination detection and disinfection is an ongoing challenge for the food-service industry. Contamination in food-related services can cause foodborne illness, endangering customers and jeopardizing provider reputations. Fluorescence imaging has been shown to be capable of identifying organic residues and biofilms that can host pathogens. We use new fluorescence imaging technology, applying Xception and DeepLabv3+ deep learning algorithms to identify and segment contaminated areas in images of equipment and surfaces. Deep learning models demonstrated a 98.78% accuracy for differentiation between clean and contaminated frames on various surfaces and resulted in an intersection over union (IoU) score of 95.13% for the segmentation of contamination. The portable imaging system’s intrinsic disinfection capability was evaluated on S. enterica, E. coli, and L. monocytogenes, resulting in up to 8-log reductions in under 5 s. Results showed that fluorescence imaging with deep learning algorithms could help assure safety and cleanliness in the food-service industry.

Kagome magnet usually hosts nontrivial electronic or magnetic states drawing great interests in condensed matter physics. In this paper, we report a systematic study on transport properties of kagome magnet TmMn$_6$Sn$_6$. The prominent topological Hall effect (THE) has been observed in a wide temperature region spanning over several magnetic phases and exhibits strong temperature and field dependence. This novel phenomenon due to non-zero spin chirality indicates possible appearance of nontrival magnetic states accompanying with strong fluctuations. The planar applied field drives planar Hall effect(PHE) and anistropic magnetoresisitivity(PAMR) exhibiting sharp disconnections in angular dependent planar resistivity violating the empirical law. By using an effective field, we identify a magnetic transition separating the PAMR into two groups belonging to various magnetic states. We extended the empirical formula to scale the field and temperature dependent planar magnetoresistivity and provide the understandings for planar transport behaviors with the crossover between various magnetic states. Our results shed lights on the novel transport effects in presence of multiple nontrivial magnetic states for the kagome lattice with complicated magnetic structures.

High power pulsed magnetron sputtering (HPPMS) is a novel tool to fabricate films with high quality. In this paper, vanadium films on concave object have been deposited by HPPMS and conventional direct current magnetron sputtering (DCMS) under the condition of the same average power. The plasma composition, crystalline structure, surface morphology and film thickness have been investigated. The results show that the plasma produced by HPPMS is composed of Ar(1+), V(0) and a certain amount of V(1+). In contrast, the plasma produced by DCMS is composed of Ar(1+), V(0) and a very small amount of V(1+). Both films fabricated by HPPMS and DCMS demonstrate the similar microstructures. The HPPMS vanadium films are dense and flat on the top surface while the surface of DCMS vanadium films presents very sharp peak with larger height. The DCMS vanadium films exhibit a porous columnar grain structure. In contrast, the HPPMS vanadium films have slightly columnar and denser structure. The thickness of the HPPMS vanadium films is less than that of DCMS vanadium films. Compared with the surface on the top, the thickness of the DCMS vanadium films is decreased to about 32% at the side wall and to about 55% at the bottom. However, the HPPMS vanadium films can reach a thickness of about 35% at the side wall and 69% at the bottom relative to that on the top surface. HPPMS shows a better uniformity in the film thickness on concave object.

This paper presents a line-scan Raman platform for food safety and quality research, which can be configured for Raman chemical imaging (RCI) mode for surface inspection and spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (SORS) mode for subsurface inspection. In the RCI mode, macro-scale imaging was achieved using a 785 nm line laser up to 24 cm long with a push-broom method. In the SORS mode, a 785 nm point laser was used and a complete set of SORS data was collected in an offset range of 0–36 mm with a spatial interval of 0.07 mm using one CCD exposure. The RCI and SORS modes share a common detection module including an imaging spectrograph and a CCD camera, covering a Raman shift range from −674 to 2865 cm−1. A pork shoulder and an orange carrot were used to test large-field-of-view (230 mm wide) and high-spatial-resolution (0.07 mm/pixel) settings of the RCI mode for food surface evaluation. Fluorescence-corrected images at selected Raman peaks were used to view Raman-active analytes on the whole sample surfaces (e.g., fat on the pork shoulder and carotenoids over the carrot cross section).Also, a layered sample, which was created by placing a 5 mm thick carrot slice on top of melamine powder, was used to test the SORS mode for subsurface food evaluation. Raman spectra from carrot and melamine were successfully resolved using self-modeling mixture analysis. The line-scan Raman imaging and spectroscopy platform provides a new tool for surface and subsurface inspection for food safety and quality.
