Apple scab (Venturia inaequalis) is one of the most endemic diseases that affect apple production worldwide. An accurate management of Plant Protection Products (PPP) together with the use of the latest technologies is one of the objectives of the EU Horizon 2020 OPTIMA project, as part of an integrated pest management (IPM) system. Optimal dose adjustment of PPP in orchards requires an accurate identification of canopy characteristics and a precise sprayer adjustment to distribute the adequate amount of active ingredient and liquid proportionally to the canopy variations. Furthermore, the possibility to use available tools and knowledge to consider the potential variability inside the parcel will lead into a reduction of the amount of PPP, which is a shared objective with the EU Farm to Fork strategy. Within the OPTIMA project a smart orchard sprayer has been developed. The system incorporates 6 ultrasonic sensors (three per side) for canopy characterization. A dedicated program developed using python allows the system to calculate canopy width and canopy density along the row. This information, together with the georeferenced location of the sprayer and the actual forward speed is used to activate the six-solenoid proportional motor-valves controlling the six different spray sections. Information about working pressure and consequently the nozzle flow rate is recorded every 1 s in order to generate the actual application map. The system is based on the adaptation of the Tree Row Volume (TRV) method established by European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO, 2021) with additional information concerning canopy density. The system is linked with development of EDS (Early Detection System) and DSS (Decision Support System) within the OPTIMA project and the aim at the end of the project will be to link all the three technological developments to achieve a holistic smart sprayer. Copper plant protection products have been severely restricted in the EU according to soil and groundwater contamination due to the traditional use as a fungicide, especially in vineyards. This limitation, together with the dependence on copper use for mildew control, places winegrowers in a great disadvantage, especially in organic production. Therefore, EURECAT together with the UPC, have developed a new copper product, more efficient in terms of deposition, in order to reduce the amount of active ingredient necessary for good disease control. Preliminary trials have been carried out by the UPC, in order to select the best formulation and to compare it with a conventional copper-based product in terms of deposition using filter paper as a collector in an artificial vineyard. The obtained results show that deposition of different developed products is statistically different from the control product, even doubling the amount of copper deposited in the collectors, which would be a promising solution to solve the problem outlined above. The presented research is part of the COPPEREPLACE project (INTERREG SUDOE, Ref. SOE4/ P1/E100) in the frame of the activity 3.3 in the GT3.

The aim of this work wasto evaluate the use of Variable Rate Application technologies based on prescription maps in commercial vineyards with large intra-parcel variability to achieve a more sustainable distribution of Plant Protection Products (PPP). One of the most controversial aspects in the application of pesticides in vineyards, is determining the optimal treatment volume, given the large number of factors involved. To help farmers in this issue, there are tools such as Dosaviña software, which takes into account all the factors affecting this decision and calculates the application volume according to the vegetation to be treated. The main objective of this project is to change the current calculation method of this program, which is based on the volume of vegetation or Tree Row Volume (TRV), by another one based on the surface of vegetation or Leaf Wall Area (LWA), given the current European trends. This requires the study of a data set of field trials conducted over the past 20 years (1995-2015), complemented with new field trials conducted with the same objective. Finally, we succeeded in establishing a reliable calculation method of the application volume based on LWA, for most vegetation traits. Basically it involves multiplying the LWA index by a factor of 0.3, thus obtaining optimal broth volume for vegetation. It was also concluded that the application volume could be calculated considering only the height of the vegetation. Un dels aspectes més controvertits en l'aplicació de fitosanitaris en vinya, és la determinació del volum òptim de tractament, donat l'elevat nombre de factors que hi intervenen. Per ajudar a l'agricultor existeixen eines com el programari Dosaviña que té en compte tots els factors que afecten aquesta decisió i calcula un volum d'aplicació d'acord amb la vegetació a tractar. L'objectiu principal d'aquest projecte és canviar el mètode de càlcul actual del programa, basat en el volum de vegetació o Tree Row Volume (TRV), per un basat en la superfície de vegetació o Leaf Wall Area (LWA), donada l'actual tendència europea. Per a això es van analitzar una sèrie de dades d'assaigs de camp realitzats en els últims 20 anys (1995-2015) i es van realitzar uns assajos de camp amb l'objectiu d'establir un mètode de càlcul fiable basat el LWA. Finalment es va aconseguir establir un mètode de càlcul fiable, per a la majoria de vegetacions, del volum d'aplicació basat en el LWA, que consisteix en multiplicar aquest índex per un coeficient de 0.3, obtenint així el volum de brou òptim per a la vegetació. També es va arribar a la conclusió que es podria calcular el volum d'aplicació considerant només l'alçada de la vegetació. Para ayudar al agricultor existen herramientas como el software Dosaviña que tiene en cuenta todos los factores que afectan a esta decisión y calcula un volumen de aplicación acorde a la vegetación a tratar. El objetivo principal de este proyecto es cambiar el método de cálculo actual del programa, basado en el volumen de vegetación o Tree Row Volume (TRV), por uno basado en la superficie de vegetación o Leaf Wall Area (LWA), dada la actual tendencia europea. Para ello se analizaron una serie de datos de ensayos de campo realizados en los últimos 20 años (1995-2015) y se realizaron unos ensayos de campo con el objetivo de establecer un método de cálculo fiable basado el LWA. Finalmente se consiguió establecer un método de cálculo fiable, para la mayoría de vegetaciones, del volumen de aplicación basado en el LWA, que consiste en multiplicar este índice por un coeficiente de 0.3, obteniendo así el volumen de caldo óptimo para la vegetación. También se llegó a la conclusión de que se podría calcular el volumen de aplicación considerando solo la altura de la vegetación.

The tasks of preparation and application of pesticides suppose a risk of environmental pollution and also for the user. This document proposes a study of a new system of induction hopper "Easy Flow" whose objective is to reduce risks and facilitate the operations mentioned, emptying and cleaning the container too. The device introduces the product directly to the tank and has a built-in cleaning system. To evaluate the operation have been used three different viscosities to determine possible changes in time and precision , as well as the use of a dye or tartrazine ( E-102 ) in order to quantify the deposition of final waste by analyzing it with a spectrophotometer. The tests were carried out on an external ad-hoc work surface and a MAKATO 600 hydraulic boom in the Agricultural Mechanization Unit of Agrópolis (Viladecans). The risk of environmental and user pollution reduction is external because the device keeps part of the waste inside the container. Les tasques de preparat i aplicació de productes fitosanitaris suposen un risc de contaminació mediambiental i al usuari. Aquest treball proposa un estudi d'un nou sistema incorporador de producte fitosanitari "Easy Flow" l'objectiu del qual és reduir els riscos comentats i facilitar les operacions de buidat i neteja de l'envàs. El dispositiu introdueix el producte directament al dipòsit i té un sistema de neteja incorporat. Per avaluar el funcionament s'han fet servir tres viscositats diferents per determinar possibles variacions en temps i precisió, així com l'ús d'un colorant o tartracina (E-102) que permet quantificar la deposició de residu final analitzant-ho amb un colorímetre. Els assajos han estat realitzats sobre una superfície de treball externa i un polvoritzador hidràulic MAKATO 600 a la nau de Mecanització Agrària d 'Agrópolis (Viladecans). La reducció del risc de contaminació mediambiental y de l'usuari es externa ja que el dispositiu incorporador de producte manté part del residu a l'interior de l'envàs. El siguiente trabajo propone un método de evaluación de un nuevo sistema incorporador de producto fitosanitario "Easy Flow" cuyo objetivo es reducir los riesgos comentados con anterioridad y facilitar las operaciones de vaciado y limpieza del envase. El dispositivo introduce el producto directamente en el depósito y cuenta con un sistema de limpieza del envase incorporado. Para evaluar el funcionamiento se han utilizado tres viscosidades diferentes para determinar posibles variaciones en tiempo y precisión, junto con un colorante o tartracina (E-102) que permite cuantificar la deposición final de residuo siguiendo el método de análisis con espectrofotómetro. Los ensayos se han realizado sobre una superficie de trabajo externa y un pulverizador hidráulico MAKATO 600 en la nave de Mecanización Agraria de Agrópolis (Viladecans). La reducción del riesgo de contaminación al medioambiente y usuario es externa ya que el dispositivo incorporador de producto mantiene parte del residuo en el interior del envase.

Air assisted sprayers (mist blowers) is the most common technology used for pesticide application in vineyards. An accurate calibration process is always requested to obtai n a uniform distribution, avoiding problems such as drift and pesticide losse s to the soil

Pesticides are used in viticulture to obtain quality grapes and high worthwhile productions. They are essential to maintain a good prophylaxis in vineyard. Among them, fungicides are the more applied chemical compounds to control fungal pathogens causing devastating diseases, as the case for grapevine downy and powdery mildews

The use of Plant Protection Products (PPP) is an important issue for the actual agriculture. They reduce losses caused by pests and diseases and they make the crops more profitable. The treatments with 3D crops (arboreal) are done with hydropneumatic sprayers (atomizers), the drops generated by nozzles with the help of a pump are transported by the air generated by a fan toward the objective of the treatment (plant). This air helps the penetration of the droplets into the canopy of the trees, because it moves the leaves. The application of PPP can cause environmental pollution, atmospheric (drift) and soil pollution on the plots where it is treated as well as the nearby aquifers. For this reason, is necessary that the machinery used to apply them is calibrated to launch the product on the target vegetation and not to be lost in other ways. The objective of this project is study the vertical distribution of the liquid of a conventional atomizer using different types of nozzles. In order to do this, a vertical distribution bench has been used, performing tests with 2 different nozzle types, with the 2 sectors of the machine (right and left) measuring with all the sector of the machine opened and with just 1 of the 7 nozzles of the sector opened. Before carrying out this study, several previous tests were carried out to decide which orientation was more suitable respect to the wind. The results obtained show that the effect produced by the rotation of the axial fan on the vertical distribution of liquid causes differences between the distributions measured in the right sector and the left sector, increasing this effect as the distance with the machine increase. It has also been detected that the lower the number of nozzles, the effect of the fan also increases. Els tractaments fitosanitaris son una eina fonamental per l'agricultura d'avui en dia. Redueixen les perdues causades per plagues i malalties i fan els cultius mes rentables. Els tractaments amb cultius 3D (arboris) es realitzen mitjancant polvoritzadors hidropneumatics (atomitzadors), en els quals les gotes generades pels broquets amb l'ajuda d'una bomba son transportades per l'aire generat per un ventilador cap a l'objectiu del tractament (planta). Aquest aire tambe facilita la penetracio dins de la copa dels arbres, donat que fa que es moguin les fulles. L'aplicacio de productes fitosanitaris pot provocar contaminacions ambientals, tant atmosferiques (deriva) com del sol de les parcel·les on es tracta aixi com dels aquifers propers. Per aquesta rao cal que la maquinaria que s'utilitza per aplicar-los estigui calibrada per llencar el producte sobre la vegetacio objectiu i no es perdi d'altres formes. L'objectiu d'aquest treball es estudiar la distribucio vertical de liquid d'un atomitzador convencional utilitzant diferents broquets. Per poder fer aixo s'ha utilitzat un banc de distribucio vertical, realitzant proves amb 2 tipus de broquets diferents, amb els 2 sectors de la maquina (dreta i esquerra) mesurant tant amb tot el sector de la maquina obert com quan nomes 1 dels 7 broquets del sector esta obert. Abans de realitzar aquest estudi es van realitzar un seguit de proves previes per decidir quina orientacio respecte al vent era mes adient. Els resultats obtinguts mostren que l'efecte que produeix el gir del ventilador axial sobre la distribucio vertical de liquid fa que es donin diferencies entre les distribucions mesurades en el sector dret i el sector esquerre, augmentant aquest efecte a mesura que la distancia amb la maquina s'incrementa. Tambe s'ha detectat que a menor nombre de broquets oberts l'efecte del ventilador tambe augmenta. Los tratamientos fitosanitarios son una herramienta fundamental para la agricultura de hoy en dia. Reducen las perdidas causadas por plagas y enfermedades i hacen los cultivos mas rentables. Los tratamientos con cultivos 3D (arboreos) se realizan mediante pulverizadores hidroneumaticos (atomizadores), en los que las gotas generadas por las boquillas con la ayuda de una bomba son transportadas por el aire generado por un ventilador hacia el objetivo del tratamiento (planta). Este aire tambien facilita la penetracion dentro de la copa de los arboles, debido a que hace que se muevan las hojas. La aplicacion de productos fitosanitarios puede provocar contaminaciones ambientales, tanto atmosfericas (deriva) como del suelo de las parcelas donde se trata asi como de los acuiferos cercanos. Por esta razon hace falta que la maquinaria que se utiliza para aplicarlos este calibrada para lanzar el producto sobre la vegetacion objetivo i no se pierda de otras formas. El objetivo de este trabajo es estudiar la distribucion vertical de liquido de un atomizador convencional utilizando diferentes boquillas. Para poder hacer esto se ha utilizado un banco de distribucion vertical, realizando pruebas con 2 tipos de boquillas diferentes, con los 2 sectores de la maquina (derecha e izquierda) midiendo tanto con todo el sector de la maquina abierto como cuando solo 1 de las 7 boquillas del sector esta abierta. Antes de realizar este estudio se realizo una serie de pruebas previas para decidir que orientacion respecto al viento era mas conveniente. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que el efecto que produce el giro del ventilador axial sobre la distribucion vertical de liquido hace que se den diferencias entre las distribuciones medidas en el sector derecho i el sector izquierdo, aumentando este efecto a medida que la distancia con la maquina se incrementa. Tambien se ha detectado que a menor numero de boquillas el efecto del ventilado tambien aumenta.
