Abstract

Mgaloblishvili, a Vitis vinifera cultivar, exhibits unique resistance traits against Plasmopara viticola, the downy mildew agent. This offers the unique opportunity of exploring the molecular responses in compatible and incompatible plant-pathogen interaction. In this study, whole transcriptomes of Mgaloblishvili, Pinot noir (a V. vinifera susceptible cultivar), and Bianca (a resistant hybrid) leaves, inoculated and non-inoculated with the pathogen, were used to identify P. viticola effector-encoding genes and plant susceptibility/resistance genes. Multiple effector-encoding genes were identified in P. viticola transcriptome, with remarkable expression differences in relation to the inoculated grapevine cultivar. Intriguingly, five apoplastic effectors specifically associated with resistance in V. vinifera. Gene coexpression network analysis identified specific modules and metabolic changes occurring during infection in the three grapevine cultivars. Analysis of these data allowed, for the first time, the detection in V. vinifera of a putative P. viticola susceptibility gene, encoding a LOB domain-containing protein. Finally, the de novo assembly of Mgaloblishvili, Pinot noir, and Bianca transcriptomes and their comparison highlighted novel candidate genes that might be at the basis of the resistant phenotype. These results open the way to functional analysis studies and to new perspectives in molecular breeding of grapevine for resistance to P. viticola.

Abstract

The DELPHI Silicon Tracker, an ensemble of microstrips, ministrips and pixels, was completed in 1997 and has accumulated over $70~{\rm pb^{-1}}$ of high energy data. The Tracker is optimised for the LEP2 physics programme. It consists of a silicon microstrip barrel and endcaps with layers of silicon pixel and ministrip detectors. In the barrel part, three dimensional $b$ tagging information is available down to a polar angle of $25^\circ$. Impact parameter resolutions have been measured of $28~\mu {\rm m} \oplus 71/(p~{\rm sin} ^{\frac{3}{2}} \theta)~\mu {\rm m} $ in $R \phi$ and $34~\mu {\rm m} \oplus 69/p~\mu {\rm m}$ in $Rz$, where $p$ is the track momentum in $\rm {GeV/c}$. The amount of material has been kept low with the use of double-sided detectors, double-metal readout, and light mechanics. The pixels have dimensions of 330~$\times$~330~$\m u${\rm m}$^2$ and the ministrips have a readout pitch of 200~$\mu {\rm m}$. The forward part of the detector shows average efficiencies of more than 96\%, has signal-to-noise ratios of up to 40 in the ministrips, and noise levels at the level of less than one part per million in the pixels. Measurements of space points with low backgrounds are provided, leading to a vastly improved tracking efficiency for the region with polar angle less than $25^\circ$.

Abstract

Un mapa geológico es un producto cartográfico que provee información acerca de las características geológicas de un área geográfica específica, mediante elementos gráficos que representan las diferentes clases de materiales, sus límites que los separan, las estructuras que las han deformado, edad y génesis. Toda esta información puede ser gestionada actualmente mediante los Sistemas de Información Geográfica, en los cuales cada característica de las unidades geológicas puede ser ingresada a una base de datos digital y luego ésta enlazada a los elementos gráficos que representan las formaciones geológicas en el terreno. Una de las características básicas de todo mapa geológico es la representación de las edades y génesis de las formaciones mediante colores debidamente definidos. La selección de los colores depende fundamentalmente de la apreciación humana y del software que se esté utilizando. El objetivo de este trabajo es proporcionar la representación de las unidades geológicas mediante la codificación internacional de colores usando la combinación CMYK (Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Black) y RGB (Red/Green/Blue), de las formaciones geológicas que se encuentran presentes en el área de la Península de Santa Elena que abarcan las Hojas Topográficas: Salinas, Zapotal, Chanduy, Santo Tomás y Punta Las Piedras.
