In this paper, a novel method of loss minimization control for sensorless scalar-controlled induction motor (IM) drives is proposed. In this work, a simple estimation scheme of the motor speed is developed based on the difference between the reference back-EMF and the estimated back-EMF. The loss minimization control is achieved through an optimized slip speed which is determined from the total power loss equation. Since only one current sensor is required, the cost of this sensorless scalar control system can be reduced. The validity of the proposed method is verified by the simulation results.
