Gestational thrombocytopenia (GT) is the most common type of thrombocytopenia during pregnancy. Unlike other types of thrombocytopenia, it is not accompanied by dysfunction of the cellular component of hemostasis. Currently, a quantitative decrease in platelets in GT is a contraindication to neuraxial blockades (NAB), which significantly reduces the quality of care in childbirth.The aim of the study is to determine the possibility of safe use of neuraxial blockades in gestational thrombocytopenia. A retrospective prospective study involved 70 patients who were performed delivery, depending on obstetric indications, either conservatively or surgically. The patients were divided into two groups. The main group (group No. 1) included 35 patients with gestational thrombocytopenia. The comparison group (group No. 2) consisted of 35 patients with a platelet content above 150×109/l. A comparative intergroup analysis of indicators of a general blood test, coagulogram, thromboelastography with a test for functional fibrinogen before childbirth and 2 days after delivery. The change in platelet content and its effect on the coagulation status of patients during pregnancy were retrospectively analyzed. A comparative assessment of the volume of blood loss during childbirth and the early postpartum period and the risk of complications of neuraxial blockade in patients with and without gestational thrombocytopenia was carried out.It was found that during gestational thrombocytopenia in the perinatal period, there is no decrease in coagulation potential, assessed by the results of coagulography and thromboelastography at a platelet level above 49×109/l. The investigated indicators of hemostasis did not have significant intergroup differences during pregnancy and childbirth. In the group of patients with gestational thrombocytopenia, the volume of blood loss during labor and the postpartum period did not differ from the group without thrombocytopenia, regardless of the method of delivery. The median blood loss after vaginal delivery in group 1 was 225 ml, in group 2 – 250 ml, with abdominal delivery – 572 ml and 386 ml – respectively. In this study, no complications of neuraxial blockade were observed in any of the groups.The results obtained suggest that in patients with gestational thrombocytopenia, even with a significant decrease in platelet content, it is possible to perform neuraxial blockades during labor, taking into account the clinical picture and the absence of coagulation disorders confirmed by thromboelastography.

The article presents the study of national symbols of Catalonia: their emergence and visual representation in the art of the 19th century. National symbolic system of Catalonia date back to the Renaixença movement in literature that initiated the formation of the Catalan language and literature. The scope and purpose of the article included an investigation of the works of the most prominent representatives of the Catalan national renaissance in order to identify the origins of the symbols they deploy. Consideration of symbols serves the purpose of defining the way national aspects get their visual representation. The method of historical typology was used to systematize the sources. Memoirs and publications in the press were analyzed with the textual method, and visual materials – with stylistic and iconic methods. Detailed research of the works of Renaixença has shown that Catalan cultural code initially emerged in poetry. In the second half of the 19th century, the symbols acquired visuality in fine art, namely paintings and visual design of the front pages of Catalan newspapers and magazines. The article provides a detailed account of selected examples of such visuals. At that time, Catalan intellectuals created works devoted to the history of Catalan-speaking lands, seeking to find roots that would picture the ancient nature of their motherland. They searched the archives and looked into medieval literature and folklore to prove the continuity of prosperous medieval Catalonia, part of the Kingdom of Aragon, and nineteenth-century Catalonia. Thinking over national history gave birth to national identity. At the same time history acquired a visual dimension. Churches, monasteries, memorable dates, leaders and thinkers that bore distinct national identity were visualized. Medieval plots penetrated art that tapped into heroic deeds of the past for inspiration. The spread of visual images helped bridge the gap between past and present. The newly acquired continuity of tradition strengthened the national narrative. The process enabled the national unity of the Catalan people with the central idea of an imaginary community of a nation-state.

Thrombocytopenia is the second most frequent hematological complica-tion of pregnancy after anemia. Among all thrombocytopenia during pregnancy, the most common is gestational thrombocytopenia. Gestational thrombocytopenia is not accompanied by coagulation disorders, has a minimal risk of bleeding, for both a mother and her fetus. Nevertheless, according to modern concepts, thrombocytopenia is a contraindication for performing obstetric neuroaxial blockades only on the basis of quantitative count of platelets, without taking into account coagulation status. These contraindications are derived from the general surgery and traumatology practice due to the high risk of developing epidural hematoma, but do not take into account the features, including physiological hypercoagulation, of pregnant patients. Refusal of the patient to perform a neuroaxial blockade during delivery on the basis of only counting the number of platelets often leads to an unreasonable increase in the risk / benefit ratio for both the mother and the fetus. Analysis of the research results indicates a change in attitude towards this problem towards a more loyal approach, taking into account the assessment of the coagulative status of a particular patient.

One of the causes of hepatomegaly in children are rare (orphan) diseases associated with congential metabolic disorders. Starting from 2008, the last day of February is Rare Disease Day. As a rule, knowing that the child has a congenital metabolism disorder does not inspire pediatrician's optimism because of poor prognosis and ineffective therapy. However today, new drugs are emerging that can improve the quality of life of patients with orphan diseases. The main target of the pediatrician is timely diagnosis which allows to prescribe replacement enzyme therapy.

The main approaches to “assembling” of dendritic polymers of various architectures are considered. Types of dendritic polymers are generalized, and the main criteria for evaluating their topology, physicochemical properties, and application fields are outlined. The possibility of using commercially produced hyperbranched polymers for modification of the operation properties of polymeric materials is demonstrated. Particular attention is paid to the use of hyperbranched polymers as precursors for preparing modifiers of the surface properties of polymeric coatings.

The surface and physicomechanical properties of polymeric coatings prepared from UV-curable powder formulations based on oligoester dimethacrylates were studied in relation to the chemical structure of a series of synthesized fluorinated modifiers of new generation, based on Boltorn™ H20 hyperbranched polyesterpolyol. The surface energy of the coatings depends on the chemical structure of the derivatives obtained. The fluorinated derivatives of Boltorn™ H20 are effective in low concentrations, 0.5–1.0 wt %.

Efficiency of synthesized perfluoroligoetherurethaneethoxystyrenes as surface hydrophobizers for coatings based on solid UV-curable oligoetherdimethacrylate was studied. Surface and physicomechanical properties of composite coatings were examined in relation to the structure of styrene derivatives and composition of powder formulations.

The morphology, supramolecular structure, and thermal behavior of powder coatings based on UV-solidified oligoesterdimethacrylate powder compositions with and without reactive coreactant bis-styrenated urethane prepared on different substrates have been studied using atomic-force microscopy, X-ray phase analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry. It was found that addition of the reactive coreactant in powder compositions results in homogenization of structure and morphology of coatings and increase in their glass transition temperatures by more than 10 K. The character of their morphology depends also on the conditions of film formation and substrate material. Unmodified coatings formed on a steel substrate exhibit an anisotropic structure, in contrast to the coatings prepared on the PTFE substrate, which are isotropic and represent a homogeneous polymer matrix containing aggregates formed by inclusions of nanoand microdimensions.

We study the anticorosion activity of vast industrial waste products of the “Khimvolokno” Chernigov Industrial Concern and the “Azot” Rivne State Chemical Plant, estimate the level of ecological danger caused by these products, and show that the utilization of the waste products of the “Khimvolokno” Concern gives at least $120 of annual savings.

We study the corrosion strength of 20 steel on holding in a chloride solution (pH 1–7) and in a solution of chloride with hydrogen sulfide (1.7 g/dm3) and some chemical waste products of the “Azot” State Chemical Plant (Rivne). It is shown that admixtures of chemical wastes in corrosive electrolytes and protective coatings lead to a decrease in the low-cycle fatigue of steels by a factor of 1.6–2 in corrosive media and by a factor of 1.4–1.8 in hydrogenating media.

Four balanced chromosomal translocation, deletion of chromosome 15, and a break in chromosome 11 were detected in 100 G-banded metaphases of cultured lymphocytes of a patient with Werner's syndrome. We observed aneuploidy that included both trisomies and monosomies for various chromosomes. Halogenated analogs of thymidine in low doses increased significantly the incidence of chromosome aberrations accompanied by fragments. 5-Iododeoxyuridine induced lesions in centromeric regions of B-group chromosomes in 44.4% of all the cases of breaks. A hypothesis is proposed about the existence of a special mechanism for genetic control in changes in the cell nucleus and mitotic chromosome transformation. This mechanism can be manifested after the application of halogenated analogs of thymidine. The mutation involved in Werner's syndrome is presumably related to this mode of genetic control.

The influence of 20% alcohol consumption on training of low-active rats in 8-arm radial maze was studied. One group of animals was trained before and the other group after the alcoholization. All the animals acquired the conditioned reaction in the radial maze. However, the behavioral difference between the groups consisted in spatially-motor asymmetry. The rats trained before the alcohol consumption had less stereotyped behavior and more distinctly preferred to enter the maze arms at the angle of 45 degrees than the animals trained after the alcohol consumption. After the alcohol consumption, rats more frequently refused from behavioral task performance in comparison with the animals trained after the alcoholization. The influence of alcohol consumption of learning and memory in low-active rats is discussed.

An abnormality in autonomic neural control in lung cancer has not yet been investigated. In the present work the role of histamine H1-receptors in the modulation of neurotransmitter receptors activity in human lung parenchyma in cancer is reported. It appeared that the activation of histamine H1-receptors may lead to the reduction of beta-adrenoceptors and the enhancement of muscarinic cholinergic receptors in cancer lung parenchyma. The above findings suggest the possibility of the interaction between neural and inflammatory systems in human lung cancer.

Data on human lung histamine H1- and H2-receptors in cancer and chronic inflammatory processes are reported. It has been found that the number of histamine H1-receptors significantly increases both in cancer and chronic pneumonia and does not practically change in tuberculosis lung parenchyma. The binding parameters of histamine H2-receptors both in cancer and inflammatory processes were similar to those obtained for the normal tissue. The important role of parenchymal histamine H1-receptors in the neuromodulation of airways in human lung adenocarcinoma is discussed.

Data on human lung alpha 1- and beta-adrenoceptors and the alpha 1/beta adrenergic ratio in cancer and chronic inflammatory processes are reported. The number of alpha 1-adrenergic sites markedly increased in lung cancer parenchyma, giving a ratio of alpha 1/beta binding sites of 12/1 in cancer but almost 1:1 in control specimens. The alpha 1/beta adrenergic ratio obtained both for mild and severe chronic pneumonia and tuberculosis lung parenchyma was similar to that demonstrated for normal tissue. The above findings suggest the cancer-induced enhancement in parenchymal alpha 1-adrenergic activity.

In the present study alpha 1-adrenergic receptors have been investigated in liver parenchyma, obtained at the resection of prehepatic portal hypertension children without parenchymal affection (control group, n = 7) and the resection of children in parenchymal affection (group of cirrhosis, n = 8). It has been shown, that the binding of alpha 1-adrenergic antagonist 3H-prasozin (3H-PRZ) in liver parenchyma membranes of both control and cirrhosis groups is saturable and shows a high affinity. The Scatchard analysis of the binding data indicated that the binding site is characterized by Kd and Bmax of 0.6 +/- 0.12 nM, 92.8 +/- 8.0 fmol/mg, respectively, for the control group; and 1.5 +/- 0.4 nM, 254.1 +/- 28.4 fmol/mg, respectively, for the group of cirrhosis; (mean +/- SEM). It has been found that the number of binding sites of 3H-PRZ significantly increases in cirrhosis liver parenchyma in comparison with the control group. The results obtained suggest that alpha 1-adrenergic receptors play an important role in cirrhosis formation in children, showing liver parenchyma affection severity and its regenerative properties.

In the present study adrenergic and muscarinic cholinergic receptors have been investigated in human lung parenchyma in cancer and previous airways diseases (chronic pneumonia, tuberculosis). It has been found that the number of muscarinic sites significantly increases in cancer and does not change both in chronic pneumonia and tuberculosis lung parenchyma in comparison with the normal tissue; the number of beta-adrenergic sites decreases in cancer, chronic pneumonia, as well as severe tuberculosis lung parenchyma. The important role of beta-adrenergic and muscarinic receptors in the formation of human lung adenocarcinoma is discussed.

In the present study adrenergic receptors have been investigated in liver parenchyma, obtained at the resection of extrahepatic portal hypertension children without parenchymal affection (control group, n-7) and the resection of children in parenchymal affection (group of chronic hepatitis children, n-6). It has been shown, that the binding of beta-adrenergic radioligand 3H-dihydroalprenolol (3H-DHA) in liver parenchyma membranes of both control and chronic hepatitis groups was saturable and showed high affinity. The Scatchard analysis of the binding data indicated that the binding site was characterized by Kd and Bmax of 1.2 +/- 0.5 nM, 261.2 +/- 50 fmol/mg, respectively, for the control group; and 0.9 +/- 0.15 nM, 68.5 +/- 18.8 fmol/mg, respectively, for the group of chronic hepatitis patients; (mean+SEM). The binding of alpha 1-adrenergic antagonist 3H-prazosin (3H-PRZ) in liver parenchyma was also saturable and showed high affinity. The binding site is characterized by Kd = 0.6 +/- 0.12 nM, Bmax = 92.8 +/- 8.0 fmol/mg, for the control group; and Kd = 0.8 +/- 0.15 nM, Bmax = 195.0 +/- 22.0 fmol/mg, for the group of chronic hepatitis. It has been found that the number of binding sites of 3H-DHA significantly decreased and the number of binding sites of 3H-PRZ did not change in chronic hepatitis liver parenchyma in comparison with the control group. The results obtained suggest the important role of beta-adrenergic receptors in the pathogenesis of chronic hepatitis and in liver regeneration in children.

An analysis was carried out of chromosomal site-fragility in patients with primary multiple tumors and familial breast cancer. A possible correlation is discussed between fragile sites, breakpoints in chromosome rearrangements in cancer patients and the localization of oncogenes mapped in chromosomal regions involved in said rearrangements.

Binding of muscarinic receptors antagonist 3H-quinuclidinyl benzylate (3H-QNB) was studied in human peripheral lung tissue, obtained after resection of pulmonary carcinoma and partial resection of tuberculoma from surrounding normal tissues (control group). Radioligand binding assays showed that binding of 3H-QNB in lung parenchyma membranes of both normal, healthy persons and patients with cancer was saturable with high rate of affinity. Saturation occurred at 1 nm concentration of the ligand. The Scatchard plot analysis indicated that the high affinity binding site exhibited the following parameters: Kd = 0.33 nm, Bmax = 164.8 fmol/mg in the group of controls: and Kd = 0.63 nm, Bmax = 401.5 fmol/mg in the group of patients with cancer. Maximal amount of 3H-QNB binding sites was distinctly increased in malignization of peripheral lung tissue. The results obtained suggest that increase in concentration of 3H-QNB binding sites may be among the specific patterns of malignant growth in lung peripheral tissue.

Adrenergic receptors were studied in human lung parenchyma obtained from 10 patients with tuberculoma after segmental resection within the limits of surrounding normal tissues (controls) as well as from 10 patients with destructive pulmonary tuberculosis. Binding of alpha-adrenergic radioligand 3H-prazosin was saturable with high rate of affinity in lung parenchymal membranes of both normal tissues and tissues impaired with tuberculosis. The Scatchard analysis indicated that the affinity of 3H-prazosin binding was not altered in patients with tuberculosis, while amount of the ligand binding sites was significantly decreased as compared with control preparations (KD = 0.5 +/- 0.9 nM, Bmax = 273.5 +/- 59.9 fmol/mg in controls; KD = 0.5 +/- 0.07 nM, Bmax = 51.7 +/- 7.5 fmol/mg in tuberculous lung parenchyma). beta-Adrenergic and muscarinic acetylcholinergic receptors were studied in lung parenchyma of patients with tuberculosis. Binding parameters of beta-adrenergic ligand 3H-dihydroalprenolol and muscarinic antagonist 3H-quinuclidinyl benzylate were similar to those of control values. Amount of 3H-dihydroalprenolol binding sites was not markedly altered while content of 3H-prazosin binding sites was considerably decreased in lung parenchyma of patients with tuberculosis as compared with normal state. The data obtained suggest that population of alpha-adrenergic receptors was decreased in human lung parenchyma under conditions of destructive tuberculosis.

beta-Adrenergic and muscarinic cholinergic receptors have been investigated in human lung parenchyma during cancer and chronic pneumonia as compared with normal tissue, obtained after segmental resection of tuberculoma from surrounding normal tissues. Binding of beta-adrenergic radioligand 3H-dihydroalprenolol (3H-DHA) and muscarinic antagonist 3H-quinuclidinyl benzylate (3H-QNB) was saturating with high rate of affinity in lung parenchyma membranes of both controls and patients with cancer and chronic pneumonia. Amount of binding sites of 3H-QNB was significantly increased in cancer (Bmax = 377.5 +/- 65.5 fmole/mg) and did not change in chronic pneumonia (Bmax = 97.7 +/- 14.7 fmole/mg) as compared with normal tissues (Bmax = 108.9 +/- 12.1 fmole/mg); a number of binding sites of 3H-DHA was significantly decreased both in lung parenchyma under conditions of cancer (Bmax = 84.1 +/- 14.5 fmole/mg) and chronic pneumonia (Bmax = 113.8 +/- 10.3 fmole/mg) as compared with normal tissue (Bmax = 456.7 +/- 73.7 fmole/mg). The affinity of 3H-DHA and 3H-QNB binding was practically unaltered. The results obtained suggest the important role of beta-adrenergic receptors in formation of lung cancer in the patients with pneumonia.

beta-Adrenergic and muscarine acetylcholinergic receptors were studied in human lung parenchyma obtained from patients with tuberculoma (after segmental resection of tuberculoma surrounding normal tissues were performed to obtain control samples) as well as from patients with pulmonary adenocarcinoma. Assays of binding of beta-adrenergic radioligand 3H-dihydroalprenolol (3H-DHA) exhibited high affinity in lung parenchyma membranes in both control samples and in that of patients with tumors. Binding of muscarine antagonist 3H-quinuclidinyl benzylate (3H-QNB) also showed high rate of affinity in lung parenchyma. High number of 3H-DHA binding sites was distinctly decreased and 3H-QNB--was increased in lung malignant tumors as compared with normal tissue. Considerable decrease of beta-adrenergic and increase of muscarine receptors were found in patients with pulmonary adenocarcinoma. beta-Adrenergic and muscarine receptors appear to be of importance in pathogenesis of human lung malignant tumors.

For the purpose of BCG revaccination of the young people (aged 13-30 years) having a negative tuberculin response, 3 methods of vaccination were practised, including working as a team, launching an expedition and functioning within a residential area. The choice of the method required is dictated by the local conditions and the given task. A high level of tuberculosis infection was recorded, especially among the risk groups in relation to this disease. The circumstances to be taken into account when planning the tuberculosis prevention measures, i. e. BCG revaccination, are defined.

In comparing the neurotropic action of probon and amidopyrine it became evident that both analgesics inhibit the behavioral reactions of rats in "open field" tests, fail to produce any protective action with respect to the reflex reaction of the heart in response to pain stimulation and attenuate such an effect of seduxen. By lengthening the hexobarbital-induced sleep probon and amidopyrine change the EEG nature typical of the effect produced by barbiturates. The difference between the study analgesics is rather a quantitative one, viz. in many rests probon is more potent and its action manifestes itself in a wider range of dosages.

In cats with elevated systemic arterial blood pressure apilac (1 mg/kg, a single dose or course administration) significantly decreased the arterial vessel wall contents of ions of Na+, Ca2+ and catecholamines the levels of which exceeded control values. Apilac administration to animals with normal systemic arterial blood pressure resulted in a decrease of Ca2+ ion content, an increase of Na+, K+ and Mg2+ ion concentrations in the vessel wall. The content of catecholamines remained in the range of control values.

A rare case of mammary signet-cell carcinoma which was not diagnosed at life is described. In a woman of 28, an enlargement of the right uterine appendages with pleural and lung metastasis were clinically noted and this was interpreted as ovarian carcinoma with pleural and lung metastasis. Histological examination of ovarian tumour performed during the necropsy allowed one to suggest the metastatic signet-cell carcinoma. No tumours were found macroscopically or histologically in the organs of the alimentary canal. Fibro-cystic mastopathy and no nodes were found macroscopically in the mammary glands. Lobular invasive carcinoma consisting of signet-cell elements containing mucus and carcinomatous lymphangoitis were found histologically. Metastasis to the left axillary, perigastral and pancreatic lymph nodes, lungs, carcinomatosis of pleura were revealed. It is suggested, due to its clinical course and histological structure, to distinguish this form of carcinoma as a separate variety of the lobular invasive carcinoma of the mammary gland.

Systemic thrombolytic therapy was given to 67 patients with large-focal myocardial infarction: immobilized streptokinase (streptodecase) was administered to 37 patients, and native thrombolytic drugs (streptokinase or urokinase), to 30 patients. Systemic thrombolytic therapy initiated within 6 hours of the attack was shown to affect favorably the course of myocardial infarction, as manifested in a significant reduction of the incidence of protracted disease and arrhythmias, and rapid elimination of congestive heart failure. The two regimens being equally effective in clinical terms, immobilized streptokinase was associated with considerably reduced rates of specific side-effects common to thrombolytic therapy.

The karyotype of 7 unilateral retinoblastomas was studied. Loss or a gain of chromosomes and structural chromosomal changes were observed in all tumors. Modal chromosome number was pseudodiploid in four and near-diploid in three tumors. There were no sex chromosomes (X or Y) in 3 tumors. Four tumors were characterized by the presence of an identical marker chromosome--i(6p). Two other markers--lp+ and 17q+ (probably, not quite identical)--were present in 4 and 3 tumors, respectively. The cells of two retinoblastomas contained both i (6p) and 17q+ markers.
