International audience; In 2011, the political events of the “Arab Spring” that spread in almost all Arab countries shed light on what were perceived as new actors, new forms, and new voices of youth political expression. Among the new actors, groups of football fans, known as Ultras, came to the forefront. The sociolinguistic aspects of their cultural productions have so far attracted little academic attention apart from a few papers dealing with emblematic songs that recently became popular protest chants. This paper aims at investigating a few characteristic linguistic features present in numerous Moroccan Ultras songs, such as language mixing and affrication, and comparing them with more general youth language practices. Do Ultras’ performances contribute to the generalization of certain youth traits as well as to the diffusion of a more global aesthetic and masculine ethos? The emotional aspect of the Ultras’ culture makes them “natural” candidates for expressing the people’s discontent, thus pointing to similarities between political slogans and Ultras songs.

With the development of Ultras groups in Morocco from the years 2005-2006, the presence of supporters in the stadiums gave rise to real performances, where Ultras groups compete in creativity and expressiveness. These performances are now widely relayed or created on websites and social networks. Until 2018, the circulation of these slogans and chants remained within the world of supporters. At the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, the Ultras became more visible as to the expression of protest. Based on a corpus collected on the web, this article intends to analyse the content and the form of these slogans, which borrow from several cultural models and develop a poetics where metaphor, humour, provocation, indignation and religiosity mingle; Avec le développement des groupes Ultras au Maroc à partir des années 2005-2006, la présence des supporters dans les stades a donné lieu à de véritables performances, où groupes ultras rivalisent de créativité et d'expressivité. Jusqu'en 2018, la circulation de ces slogans et chants restait plutôt interne au monde des supporters. Fin 2018, début 2019, les Ultras se sont invités de façon plus visible dans l'expression contestataire. A partir d'un corpus de chants, d'images et slogans recueilli sur le cyberspace, cet article entend analyser le contenu et la forme de ces textes qui empruntent à de nombreux modèles culturels et développent une poétique où la métaphore se mêle à l'humour, l'indignation et la religiosité.

BackgroundPreterm birth is associated with the development of both acute and chronic disease, and the disruption of normal gut microbiome development. Recent studies have sought to both characterize and understand the links between disease and the microbiome. Probiotic treatment may correct for these microbial imbalances and, in turn, mitigate disease. However, the criteria for probiotic supplementation in NICU's in North Queensland, Australia limits its usage to the most premature (MethodsPreterm infants were recruited in North Queensland, Australia, with fecal samples collected just prior to discharge (36 ± 0.5 weeks gestation), to capture potential changes that could be probiotic induced. All samples underwent 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, with a subset also used for shotgun metagenomics. Mixed effects models were used to assess the effect of probiotics on alpha diversity, beta diversity and taxonomic abundance, whilst accounting for other known covariates.ResultsMixed effects modeling demonstrated that probiotic treatment had a significant effect on overall community composition (beta diversity), characterized by greater alpha diversity and differing abundances of several taxa, including Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus, in supplemented infants.ConclusionLate preterm-infants who go without probiotic-supplementation may be missing out on stabilizing-effects provided through increased alpha diversity and the presence of commensal microbes, via the use of probiotic-treatment. These findings suggest that late-preterm infants may benefit from probiotic supplementation. More research is needed to both understand the consequences of the differences observed and the long-term effects of this probiotic-treatment.

International audience; This paper presents a preliminary analytical overview of studies dealing with Arabic-based Youth Language practices (YL). It first provides a quick assessment of the development and evolution of YL studies in different areas of the globe (Europe, USA and Africa). It then reviews YL studies in the Arab world. It ends with a presentation of data collected during a collective research undertaken in four Moroccan cities in 2009-2012. This preliminary state of the Arts indicates a growing interest in Arabic-based YL starting from the 2000s, following the great amount of research on this topic in Western countries in the 1990s. Western and Arab urban contexts show important differences regarding the social components and sociolinguist profiles of the investigated youth groups. However, many similar trends have been recorded both at the level of YL linguistic features and youth discursive practices. Studies on Arabic-based Youth Language practices cover a large range of domains: written and oral uses, interaction within peer-group, artistic performances. The paper questions the role and place of YL as factors of language and cultural change.

Cet ouvrage collectif rassemble quatre contributions qui présentent des travaux sur les pratiques de jeunes locuteurs en France et en Afrique du Nord. Des chercheuses et chercheurs de différents ancrages disciplinaires (sociolinguistique, dialectologie arabe et anthropologie linguistique) et de différents pays (Espagne, États-Unis, France, Maroc) proposent des analyses linguistiques et sociolinguistiques de divers aspects (phonétiques, lexicaux, morphologiques, discursifs et interactionnels) des usages juvéniles de plusieurs villes, au Maroc, en Libye et en France. Ces descriptions et analyses de pratiques situées sont de première importance pour le Maroc, contexte sociolinguistique pour lequel elles font à ce jour encore relativement défaut. This article presents a case study of short-term art therapy with a homeless man that was undertaken in a residential hostel by a trainee therapist. One of the features of this work was that the client was an alcoholic who came to his sessions in varying degrees of intoxication. Although this presented some challenges the authors argue that his engagement in a therapeutic process had meaning that could be understood through a clinical witnessing of enactments within the transference-countertransference matrix. This required paying close attention to countertransference phenomena as expressed through the trainee therapist’s art responses to sessions, which were explored in supervision. As policymakers weigh the costs and benefits of social safety net programs with each round of federal budget negotiations, studying the impacts of these programs on recipients’ well-being can help make the case for preserving and strengthening the safety net. To that end, this paper examines the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), the nation’s largest means-tested cash transfer program, and one that research shows is associated with higher educational attainment, increased workforce participation, and better health outcomes for recipients. Through a statistical analysis of approximately 2,600 low- and moderate-income households, this paper explores whether filing for the EITC is also associated with a lower likelihood of financial delinquency. I find that the probability of delaying a rent or mortgage payment is actually higher among households that file for the EITC; other statistically significant predictors of delinquency include the amount of liquid assets, the presence of an outstanding student loan, and marital status. Further research is needed to determine the extent to which the EITC and other safety net programs can assist lower-income households in budgeting for and managing their monthly financial obligations.

The paper traces back the 4 years of the Dabateatr Citoyen. The experience was led by a young drama troup who wanted to develop a cultural space in the Moroccan capital-city. During a week each month, the DabaTeatr Citoyen has produced drama but has mainly been a place of cultural exchange and cultural activities. It clustered many young Moroccan artists. This experience questions the relationship between artists, citizens et cultural politics, L'article retrace les 4 années du Dabateatr Citoyen, mené à Rabat au Maroc par une troupe de jeunes comédiens qui voulait développer un espace culturel engagé dans la capitale marocaine. Rencontres mensuelles d'une semaine, le Dabateatr Citoyen a produit des pièces de théâtres mais a surtout été un lieu d'échange et d'animation culturelle où se retrouvaient de nombreux jeunes artistes marocains. Cette expérience pose la question du rapport entre artistes, citoyens et politiques culturelles.
